Dr. Chacon is an incredibly sweet lady and loves what she does. Her class is super easy and actually really interesting when you show up... you don't have to show up to pass. If you don't show up, however, you'll probably feel a little bad because she is such a nice person. Tests are right off the study guides. Lots of extra credit. Take her!
She is the ideal gen-ed professor. The class is super easy and she is such a nice lady. Doesn't take attendance and you don't even have to go to class to get an A because she posts study guides that you can fill out using the PowerPoints. The material is actually really interesting too. Easy grading scale with extra credit as a cushion. TAKE HER!
This may be the easiest class at JMU if you have the opportunity definitely take it! the class consists of 3 multiple choice tests worth 100 points each and you can do up to two 10 point extra credit assignments which are a good cushion for the tests. You don't even have to go to class because she posts all the powerpoints and study guides online.
The absolute BEST gen-ed professor at JMU! Three easy tests including a non-cumulative final. You don't have to go to class ever because she posts the PowerPoints and study guides online. The material is actually pretty interesting and you can can just make flash cards from the study guides and PowerPoints. She's a super sweet lady, too. TAKE HER!
Dr. Chacon is a great professor! Definitely take her! She is funny and cares about her students. She understands that people have other classes so she doesnt assign any work: there's only 3 non-cumulative tests (including the final). She gives 2 extra credit opportunities and you dont have to do the readings for the test! TAKE HER!!
She is an amazing professor. Tests are based off the study guide, and the study guide comes straight from the powerpoints online. She cares a lot about her work and her students! I would definitely take this class again.
I was not sure what to expect for a Sociology class and I am so glad I took Dr. Chacon. All of her power points are online which makes it super easy to study and pay attention in class. She does not take attendance so it is your responsibility to come or not. Extra credit opportunities are life savers if you don't do well on a test. Easy A.
Chacon has an accent, so sometimes it is hard to understand what she's saying. She reads off a powerpoint, which she later puts up on Canvas so you don't need to go to class, but she will give hints for the test. Three tests, 25 multiple choice, no midterm. Textbook is useless, only three questions on each test that come from the reading.
Her tests are hard but she's so nice and enthusiastic and is really clear to what the tests are on. And she gives a lot of extra credit. I hardly went to class.
Dr. Chacon is a very nice woman. Her lectures can be a little boring and monotonous. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you feel guilty if you don't go because she's so kind. Her exams are right off the study guide which come directly from her PowerPoints which are all on Canvas so technically you don't even have to go to class except on exam days.
There are 3 tests. you dont ever really need to go to class because all notes are online. but the tests can be kind of hard because there's only 25 questions and you need to know details from videos watched, etc. GET THE BOOK or borrow someones (4 questions from book on each exam). extra credit is helpful but not an easy A, not a hard A either.
this class was extremely easy. she gives extra credit and all the notes are online. there are 3 tests and if you study all the notes and everything on the study guide she gives you then you will be fine. she is very nice and i enjoyed the class a lot. i didn't use the textbook at all but there are 4 questions on each test material from the book.
Chacon is so sweet! Dont have to go to class but she always lets out early and explains things well. 3 test, extra credit and simple group project, get the textbook because several questions on tests are from the book! She also makes study guides!
It took me a while to adjust to Chacon's teaching style. She reads directly from her power points and brings in little to no outside examples. Its clear that you can skip class, read her power points, read the texts, and pass her exams. It's an easy a without coming to class, cram for the exams with her powerpoints and texts and youll be fine.
Class is good for someone who doesn't want to learn anything or care about sociology. She seems unhelpful only in the way of which if you ask a question she only reiterates the question for the class to answer. Her accident is something you can get past but the material & class was not post-secondary standard. I wouldn't take again, learned nothing
You can definitely skip class and still do well. Her tests are straight from the study guides and the material is right off of her powerpoints. READ THE BOOK. Four questions come from the book for each test, I did the readings and still sometimes struggled with them. Only three tests so mess up one and you're kinda screwed, but extra credit helps!
Chacon is great! People complain that she is hard to understand due to her accent or perhaps teaching style, but she is always willing to help you if you just ask. Her course is very detailed in her syllabus, so makes getting things taken care of/track of easy. Only thing is that margins are small for a good grade so every point counts! Take her!
Makes class interesting, and really takes pride in the information that she is teaching which makes her lectures easier to listen to. Straight forward grading criteria, 5 short papers which she grades on completion, 4 exams which are 25 multiple choice straight from the notes, non cumulative.
You don't need to go to class at all. She lectures right from the power points which are posted on Canvas along with any video clips that we might have watched. 3 tests, no final and 5 two page papers.
This was a chill class. I will be the first to admit that I did not show up to every class meeting, but I still got an A-. Her lecture style is right from the powerpoints so just print them off and study them and you should be fine. Class material is very general so just study and you're good
the sweetest lady ever!!!!! tests are easy if you study just a little before. She posts powerpoints on canvas and attendance isnt mandatory so you really dont even need to go to class. You watch a lot of interesting videos and she usually lets you out early. EASY GEN ED TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!!!!
Dr. Chacon is the cutest prof ever. She's so nice and willing to help if you need it. A lot of people didn't go to class and you don't need to to pass, but might as well go b/c you're paying for it. Follow the study guides for tests and criteria for essays and you'll get an A or A- if you try.
so a lot of students say that you dont need to go to class to pass her tests, which is true. but in my opinion it is so much easier to sit in her class and learn rather than doing the work at home. shes very nice, tests come straight from study guide and we normally get to leave class early. interesting videos, shes adorable. would recommend!
Super easy class - would recommend to anyone looking for a gen ed. That being said, it is almost impossible to get an A in this class. To get an A, you have to get 95.5% or better. There are 5 essays, two exams + a final. The essays are super short (2 pages double spaced) and very easily graded. I got 88 on both exams and 20/20 on all 5 essays.
lectures are clear, take notes and study them to do good on the test. for the essays, as long as you write your opinion and facts from the book, you'll get a 100
This class is not as easy as people make it out to be. You can't put in zero effort, never show up, and get an A in this class. Each test is only 25 questions, so missing a few questions really hurts your grade. Questions come from the textbook so you have to read a few chapters per test. Attendance isn't mandatory & she puts powerpoints online.
Dr. Chacon is so kind & excited about sociology. This was one of the few classes I've taken in which I've enjoyed going to class, so even though attendance isn't mandatory I recommend going just because it's interesting content and a chill class. The effort required to get an A in this class is minimal compared to, like, literally any other class.
Chacon is such a cute lady and is inspirational about her lectures although its pretty boring. There are 4 25 MC exams and none are cumulative. Homework essays are easy, you will get an a if you just do it and on time. Attendance isnt mandatory, she puts the slides on canvas. Overall easy class, take if you want a B/A for a GenEd
Very boring class and tests are tough. she just reads off of the powerpoint which is posted on canvas. small homework assignments that don't move your grade at all. you need to do good on the tests in order to do good. she's sometime hard to understand but she's very nice and cares about her students.
She grades on a point scale from the syllabus. All assignments(9)- even extra credit- are 1-2 page double spaced papers about a documentary or a summary of a textbook chapter. 5/5 on all assignments (completion). 3 Tests that are pretty difficult to predict. Quizlets Online. Tests are 25 Multiple Choice and Bonus ?s. Final non-cumulative.
I skipped this class way more than I went to it (not proud of that) but still got a solid A. Have to write 1-2 page papers based on documentaries that she will give you full credit on as long as you do it. Tests 25 MC with 3 easy 4-point bonus questions (12 points total!!!) and she gives study guides with everything you need to know! Easy A!
This was such an enjoyable/ easy class! She gives lots of extra credit and it is easy to get an A. 4 tests and no cumulative final, some of the test questions come from the textbook but she also gives extra credit questions on the test. Couple of odd assignments but they are easy to get 100 on. Take her if you can!!!
Dr. Chacon gives her students every opportunity to do well in her class! There are extra credit opportunities for each test and other assignments are not graded harshly. She wants everyone to do well and tries her best to accommodate her students.
Dr. Chacon is amazing. As long as you go to class and listen, the exams are straight from the study guide. You do have to read the textbook because there are questions on the test about it, but she never discussed it in lecture. Overall, I would recommend!
Very few grades - a couple of written assignments and 3 multiple choice tests. Makes you learn way too much information for a 25 question test. Tests aren't an easy A (does give extra credit though) and questions are confusing.
Reads off the PowerPoints the whole time, she's really hard to understand so her putting the slides on Canvas is the only way I learned anything. The tests tended to be pretty difficult and really determine your whole grade, even though there are a few other assignments, just weighted a lot less. Least favorite gen-ed prof I've ever had
Her test questions are so dumb and not detailed enough to answer confidently. No point in going to class because she just reads off the powerpoint and you can barely understand her. She's chill and everything but not sure why her score is so high
I attended class three times during the year (2 of which were exam days) and still got an A. I'm a Sociology major, but you don't have to be to pass. Just do the random weekly assignments and study the powerpoints very well before the exam and you'll be fine. Test questions are meant to be tricky, but if you study you'll be fine. Easy and skipable
This class is not as easy as people make it to be. I received an A but I worked for every point. This class is point based, meaning that even if you get an 90% on a test, its still not guaranteed that you will get an A. You need to hit a certain number of points to get the grade you want. I went to every class and I barely received an A.
Very nice lady can be hard to understand at times. Puts all notes online and reads off the powerpoint so attendance really isn't necessary unless we watch a video. Graded only on 3 tests, one group essay, and some optional extra credit.
Chacon is a super sweet lady but her lectures can be a little confusing sometimes but she posts everything on canvas. She is very passionate about the subject which makes class enjoyable. You HAVE to study for the exams or you will not get a good grade. Graded on 2 exams, 1 final, 1 group paper, and have the opportunity to get 5 extra credit pts.
I really enjoyed this class. Honestly you do not have to go to lecture. She posts everything online and then gives you super direct study guides that correlate to the test. Theres 3 test which are 25 question multiple choice, 1 group paper, and a bunch of extra credit opportunities. Super easy gen ed.
LOVE her, she's so cute and passionate about what she teaches. Her class is really easy if you study for the tests. 3 tests and 1 group paper. You don't have to go to class to do well, I skipped too often, but her class goes by super fast. She posts everything online. 3 non graded essays, if you do two you'll get extra credit. TAKE HER!!!
I love this professor! She's so kind and funny, and really tries her best to make lectures interesting. Everything comes from the powerpoint, so attendance isn't really necessary. Definitely recommend taking her for SOCI110.
Dr. Chacon is a very kind and approachable professor. All of her exams and lectures are straight from the powerpoints so attendance is not mandatory. The material in her class is very straight forward and Dr. Chacon tries to make her lectures as engaging as possible. If you're looking for an easy A with interesting material, take Dr. Chacon!
Dr. Chacona is a great teacher. She cares about this subject a lot and you can tell when she lectures. This class is an easy A, if it weren't for the tests. It's multiple choice but many of the questions are confusing with what seems like more than one right answer. The only thing you have to do is know the subject and be confident in your answer
The class is really laid back. You never have to go because the study guides are exactly what is on the test. She posts all her powerpoints online. She's an easy grader. And, there's one group project and it's super easy, just make sure you do all that is asked for. There are chances for extra credit. The lowest I got on a test was a 76.
Dr. Chacon seems like a very knowledgeable and intelligent person. I enjoyed the class and lectures. HOWEVER, your grade is based off of 2-3 tests. HER TESTS ARE SUPER HARD. you will probably understand lectures and feel confident but her tests are hard to answer, it's really like a mind game (even though they're multiple choice.)
Chacon is great!! She's straight-forward and reads right off the powerpoint which she always posts online. Her tests are short but directly from the study guide. I honestly don't understand how people do poorly in this class. There's one annoying group paper but she gives TONS of time for it. Take Chacon!!
Exams are very difficult and very heavily weighted. If you don't do well on them there are really no other spots to increase your grade, other than 5 point essays that you have to write. Even those barely do anything to increase it. NOT an easy gen-ed.
She is such a nice lady and you can tell she is passionate about this topic. Her lectures are super straight forward and on very simple concepts but the exams have nothing to do with what she taught. If you fail the first exam you're screwed since its just 3 exams, and 4 small papers that barely did anything to your grade. Not as easy as it seemed.
This class should not be as hard as it is for a gen-ed. There are 3 tests, 4 short essays, and 1 group paper. If you do bad on the tests, you will likely do bad in the class. The tests are ridiculous and there is no extra credit. Nice woman, but she's not much help. I am in upper level chem/bio classes that are more straight forward than this.
Don't do much in class and all the powerpoints are posted online so I rarely went. Material isn't difficult but tests questions are worded weirdly so many people don't do too well on them. 4 short papers, 3 exams and a final group project. But she's a very sweet lady and she cares a lot about the subject.
She is sweet but class could be repetitive and boring. She makes tests harder than they need to be but as long as you study powerpoints you will be fine. No final at the end but there is a 8 page group essay instead.
You can tell that Dr. Chacon is very passionate about the subject, and I found her lectures very interesting. However, it seemed impossible to get a good grade. I left class everyday feeling great about the material and enjoyed learning about it, but then the test came around and I couldn't get above a 60%. Not an easy gen-ed.
Chacon literally does nothing to help your grade. She reads off her slides for 50 minutes, she talks very quietly, and she is very hard to understand. She doesn't expect you grasp information, she expects you to memorize people and achievements which makes the class very boring. Do not recommend taking her class, if you fail the exams you're done.
Easy!! Classes are mostly lectures mixed with a few video viewings, and she posts the slides and video links on Canvas. Attendance is not mandatory, and she even said on the first day to sleep in if youre tired and get the notes online. Grade is based off of 4 essays and 3 tests. No final, just a group project. Usually ends class early. Take her!!
Love her! She posts the lectures on canvas right after every class which is so nice. Study for the tests and you'll pass.
Sweetest lady and very caring. The content is pretty easy, though her tests can be worded weirdly. If you actually study you'll be fine. If you don't do well on tests the 4 short essays will make up for it since she grades easy on them. No final just a group project which is nice. Take her!!
She reads off her lectures and has a strong accent, so unless you're near the front it's hard to understand her. She also posts her ppts online, but GO TO CLASS. She'll add stuff from documentaries and tangents in class to tests that weren't on the ppts. Also, 3 tough tests make up most of your grade. Study! Final is an 8 page group paper.
She is very passionate about her subject but basically makes everyone hate it. She gives three exams so if you do bad on one of them you can't recover. The class average on every exam is around C- or C. She tricks you on the test with weird wording that sets you up for failure. Once you know her mind games on tests, you will improve a little.
Class is pretty easy overall BUT if you mess up on one thing theres no way to bounce back because theres few grades. Tests are on pretty basic info, but her wording is incredibly confusing and makes content way more confusing then it really is. Makes you write a paper with 8+ others for the final. Personally wouldn't take again, but not terrible.
Attendance isn't mandatory and she posts all of her slides online and easy course load. She is a very nice lady my downfall was the 5+ multiple choice options. if you understand the way she tests you will get a good grade
I loved this class!!! Although all classes are lectures, Dr. Chacon does a good job of covering all the material for the tests while also making the information interesting. She gives study guides for every test which are super helpful. There is a group paper based on a book in place of a final. Highly recommend and an easy A!
just read/study the PowerPoints (which she posts directly after class) and you are almost guaranteed an A. They are super straight forward and easy to understand. Even though you don't need to go to class, I strongly recommend because she shows videos only during the lectures that WILL Be included on the exams. Literally the easiest A ever.
super easy gen ed. dr. chacon is the nicest lady ever. hard to understand, but passionate about the subject and makes lectures interesting. the first test was ridiculously hard and without coronamester i prob would have basically failed this class. if you study for the tests and go to most of her lectures/take notes, it's an easy A. take her!!
Grade is based on 3 papers, 1 term paper, and 3 tests. 1st test was in person and a little tough/confusing. After covid, class was basically a joke. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Papers are mainly completion. Lecture is boring and not necessary, just make sure you look at the power points and understand information and watch videos.
Took this because I thought it would be an easy gen ed, but it was the most extra class I have ever taken. It is almost impossible to do well on the tests if you do not read the textbooks closely. The tests are super tricky and not straight forward at all. Would not recommend taking this class if you wanted it to be easy and introductory.
Her tests are ok. They are very very video heavy so make sure you watch all the documentarys and take notes on them. She is hard to understand and her lectures and very boring. She isnt the most compassionate professor and doesn't care a whole lot about her students. I wouldnt take her again.
I never went to a single lecture besides frog week. I never used the textbook and found a pdf of one book for her reading assignment test online. The tests were very straightforward and her powerpoints literally were almost exactly the tests. Beware of only three tests two journals and one quiz. I got a 50 on one test and my grade dropped a letter.
Professor Chacon is a very nice woman who is passionate about the subject. That being said, the class consisted of her reading PowerPoints that she posted later on. I never used the textbook (which I sadly paid for) and didn't watch the assigned videos and was still able to pass the class. Take her for an easy Gen ed.
The class wasn't bad. The professor seems nice but she can be hard to understand at times. I never went to a lecture and did fine in the class. Just look at the study guides before the exams and you'll do well. All the PowerPoints are posted and the quizzes are open note, easy gen ed.
I did not use the textbook, but I did use the book she assigned for a book project. If you review the powerpoints and supplemental videos before the exams, you will do well. She is very passionate about sociology and she was a pleasure.
Easiest class at JMU, I have gone to class once this entire semester. She puts the lecture power points on canvas, so I just copy them down. Online exams and quizzes, one paper that is very easy based on a book that you don't have to read. Definitely take this class if you can!
Dr. Chacon is one of the most wonderful professors I've encountered at JMU so far. Her lectures are interesting and she really cares about every students' wellbeing. She gives very detailed study guides for all 3 of the exams. You have 1 paper about a book you have to read but it's well-explained and she is an easy grader.
Chacon is definitely not the best choice for this class. 3 exams total (online), and one book report essay. The book is a little less than 200 words and the paper needs to be 2-3 pages. Her lectures are extremely boring and after the first 2 weeks of classes, half the people stop coming. Sometimes her accent can be very thick and hard to understand
Class is only lectures, posts lectures online so don't have to go to class. Grades are 3 online tests(directly from lectures, can use notes) and a book assignment for a book you don't even have to read(grades easy on that). Highly recommend for easy cluster 5 class.
Dr. Chacon was a very easy professor. Only 5 grades in the class (3 exams, 1 quiz, 1 essay). Material is 90% lectures and 10% videos. Overall, this was an easy A and I would highly recommend as a gen-ed.
Only attended her class a few times. First exam is fine but the rest are difficult because about half of the questions are about documentaries only shown in class so unless you are a master at skimming documentaries like me, I'd recommend going to her classes. Didn't purchase or read the textbook. Boring lectures, powerpoints on Canvas.
Point-based class graded on 3 exams, a syllabus quiz, and a book essay. I just skimmed the book since it was boring but I got a good essay score. A bit strange for a sociology class to have an expensive textbook, since most of us are broke, but whatever. Kind lady but doesn't make the class interesting. Weekly readings recommended but not required.
Super sweet professor. Attendance not mandatory. Totally manageable class- 3 exams and one easily graded paper. Definitely recommend!!
Professor Chacon is such a sweetheart, I would 110% recommend taking a class with her. Her exams are open note and done at home, and all of the content on exams comes straight from her notes, almost word-for-word. She has extra credit options, none are hard to complete if you set aside 20 minutes to do it. Please take this course with her!
The best professor ive had while attending JMU. 3 Online, open-note exams that she gives very detailed study guides for. One book essay. The sweetest and most caring professor in my opinion. gives plenty of extra credit opportunities! If I could have her for every class I would!
Interesting class, you will likely pass if you pay attention and read along in the textbook. 4 tests and a 1-2k word paper. Dr. Chacon does her best to keep a good energy level in class. Few chances for extra credit. Attendance isn't mandatory but it is recommended to attend class when you can. This class fills fast on registration day, be fast.
Dr. Chacon was a good teacher. She does her lectures in class, and they can get boring since she reads straight from the slides. However, her exams are heavily reflective on the content in class and the discussion boards she provides for extra credit. The class is easy, as long as you take your notes and watch the videos. Would take again.
She was such a sweet lady. Her class was graded off 2 tests, a final, and1-2k word paper(that she graded very easily).she gave lots of extra credit opportunities.all tests were online open note, and most questions were word for word out of the notes. tbh you don't really have to go to class, just take notes off the powerpoints on your own.take her!!
Professor Chacon is such a sweet lady. There are few things graded but all are pretty easy. Attendance isn't mandatory and lecture powerpoints are posted but I'd recommend keeping up with the class. Pretty easy course, def take her!!
Such a sweet professor! The lectures are straight forward. There is one paper, a little extra credit offered. 100% recommend for a gen ed, made me more interested in Sociology
this class was so easy. I literally only went to class 3 times and finished with a A. Theres a book essay but that's the hardest thing you'll do and it was still easy. DEF TAKE HER FOR GENED
Seems easy, impossible to pay attention to her lectures though
VERY easy gen ed class. Barely went and am probably ending with an A. The hardest thing is a book assignment, but most of the class is common knowledge. Tests are fine since it's open note and she says she's gonna give the entire class 10 points if we do the discussion boards. She's great!
Prof Chacon was a super nice lady. She reads directly off the slides though so I never felt like I was actually learning everything. This class is an easy A though and the assignments are fairly easy, but, sometimes she assigns videos that are almost an hour for a 2 minute discussion board
Chacon is amazing! Her grading scale is 3 tests, a midterm quiz, 1 book report, and a syllabus quiz. All of her tests/quizzes are open notes, but there is a time limit. She is very sweet and accommodating, this is the perfect easy A gen ed.
Dr. Chacon is a great professor, there is a fair amount work and extra credit opportunities to ensure success in the class. I attended all classes, however attendance is not mandatory or even necessary if you go through the lecture slides available on canvas.
This was offered as a 7-week hybrid course and I honestly loved it. Even though I wasn't super passionate about SOCI 110, Professor Chacon made the class very interesting. She gives 20 points of extra credit which helped my grade a lot. Not a hard class, but don't let it slide. I hadn't studies for a test as well as I thought and tanked my grade.
Chacon was a very boring lecturer and only about 1/5 of the class attended after the first week. Tests were directly from notes and videos that were assigned.
I took this class accelerated/hybrid and it was so easy. Lectures were boring but she was the sweetest professor ever. The tests were kind of hard for whatever reason, and we were only graded off 3 exams. The asynchronous work we did was extra credit by the end of it, but she offered about 15 extra credit points throughout the 8wks
She is the sweetest professor and she tries to make the lectures interesting. She does have an accent so sit in the front so you can understand her better. This class was half the semester for 3 credits, it was really nice. She offers several extra credit opportunities.
Lectures are everything in this course. Dr. Chacon does post them later but going to class is an easy way to grasp the material. There are three canvas tests including the final.
Asynchronous on Fridays (discussions, or exam, or zoom), 3 exams and a final. She post all the notes online and exams are online; however, she does give deeper info in class thats not posted. Extra credit opportunities. If majority of the class does the discussions throughout the semester she gives everyone extra credit for it. Sweet lady!
She is really sweet!
She is really nice! Attendance is not taken, and she mainly lectures right off the slides. The tests can be tricky, but as long as you take notes, you should be good. The extra credit is worthwhile to do to add a few points to your grade. I loved the 7 week session and it is really nice to be done with the class early
Not a bad Professor to take for a gened. No graded attendance and posts lecture slides online, so honestly you don't even have to go, but she does say stuff that isn't in the slides. I don't really go to class and if I do then I don't really pay attention and have made high 80s on my exams which obviously would be better grades if I put effort in.
3 online exams (which 1 is the final), async Friday assignments (for extra credit), no graded attendance, lecture slides posted online. If I went to class more and payed attention than I would get higher than 85s on my exams, Easy A if I tried like a little more than what I have tbh. Class is boring but sweet professor.
I recommend for gen ed/easy elective. Mon & Wed in person (not mandatory) & Fri asynch. Online exams, final is online. Extra credit is the only other grades other than exams in this course. Class is boring but goes by fast. She's sweet and does try to inform students on the criteria, but students stop showing up after realizing lectures on online.
Good Professor, sometimes is unclear the point she is trying to get across, but exams are online and open note so it is very helpful to attend class.
Was a very great professor sometimes unclear on the point she is trying to get across but a lovely and caring professor. i did at times feel like for some of the exams that there could of been more then one questions for multiple choice and that the questions were very ambiguous and confusing and this happen before in previous exams but great class
Go to class if you want to get an A in the course. Watch the videos and complete the discussion boards. Each online exam is a 1/3 of your grade so make sure you complete the study guides. First two exams you have 50 minutes for 25 questions, but the final you have 2 hours for 25 questions. You will not have time to look up answers.
Honestly I went to this class twice the whole entire semester. It was really easy but if you attend class you cannot understand her. It was annoying because I feel like I could never get the material because I didn't understand her. All exams are online and open note and she only grades by 3 tests and a syllabus quiz so you have to do well on tests
Not sure why I even bothered going to class because the lectures put me to sleep every time, and she posts the PowerPoints on Canvas. Tests were open note and online, so as long as you take decent notes this class will be laughably easy. She seems very nice but tends to ramble a lot when she lectures.
Professor Chacon was an amazing professor! She is so kind and sweet and truly cares about her students. Classes are all lectures, but assigns discussions every once in a while. There are not a lot of assignments so make sure you do well on the ones assigned. She required a textbook, but we never used it, and usually watched videos as resources.
Professor Chacon is an amazing professor. I don't know why she is rated anything below a 4. I have always been somewhat of a slower learner, and struggled through many academics, but I believe I'm about to end this semester with an A-, which is amazing in my opinion. If you're an average learner, you'll get an A. She's amazing.
The grade is based on a point system and the discussions are worth one point each. Making the exams extremely heavily weighted but they are open note and online. Attendance is not mandatory but is helpful to do well on the exams. Overall a super easy gen ed class.
this professor is absolutely amazing, one of my favorite professors I have ever had. she is so nice and the work load is very little and supper easy. tests and exams are easy and it is open notes. easiest and best professor ever
This class was pretty easy to follow. If you want an easy A, then you can probably get one even if you don't attend class. The slides, readings, and videos are necessary to get a good grade on the tests. Other than that, the class was a little boring for me. The instructor mostly reads of from the slides, which comes off as just boring.
She is not a terrible choice for a sociology, all lectures are posted online so no point in coming to class if you don't enjoy it. Her accent is a little strong but nothing too difficult to get used to. 2 exams 1 final that are all open note + online, discussion boards every week after the first 5 they are considered extra credit (10 total)
Nothing was wrong with the professor herself, the class was just really boring and there's really no reason to go to class since she posts all the PowerPoints. There's 2 exams and 1 final, all open note and take home, and there's 10 discussion posts with only 5 that are required. It's lecture heavy and she has a thick accent, take that as you will.
class might not be mandatory but being present allows you to know more than what the slide has. easy exams and 10 discussion posting 5 of them are mandatory and 5 is extra credit. just bare it through the semester and you'll see that it was worth the easy A
I LOVED DR. CHACON! Her class is really easy, attendance is not mandatory, and all the exams are online and open note. She is a super kind and caring professor and I love her a ton.
Professor Chacon is sweet and makes lectures engaging. Tests can be tricky, but taking notes and using resources like unstuck AI helps. Minimal attendance required, and extra credit opportunities make this a solid gened.
Super easy class. You barely need to go to get a good grade just keep up with notes, join for the online classes, and complete the homework's and assignment's.
She is so sweet and welcoming. The lectures themselves can be pretty boring since it is an introduction class, but she tries to make them more engaging. The tests are all online and straight forward if you attend class to get the reviews. The class is easy to follow and easy to maintain without being overwhelming.
attendance is not mandatory and she posts every lecture. tests are 25 min and you have 50 minutes to do it. there are discussion boards but they are due at the end of the semester. has a thick accent bit she is a very caring professor and easy gen ed, would recomend!!!!!
Not going to lie, this class is pretty boring but she tries her best to keep the class entertained. You really don't have to go to class, as long as you do review the slides and notes posted. You also have a lot of like small discussions to do (sometimes doesn't show in canvas) so make sure you pay attention. Easy class though.
She posts all of the notes/videos online which is the only thing you need for tests (I didn't go to a class after week 2). All of the tests and final are online & open book. They aren't many questions but worth basically your whole grade.
Professor Chacon is very passionate about the material, but this is a very boring class. Attendance is not mandatory and everything you need is on canvas, I often did not go. 2 exams, a final, a few activities, and participation from those activities are your grade. Tests are online and open note but few questions. Overall pretty easy to do well.
My favorite professor by far. Attendance not mandatory, all tests are online + open notes. Fridays are either on zoom or just an assignment. So slight - TAKE HER!!!!!
Really easy class. I never went to class and got a solid grade. Just be aware she grades you on very few things! Don't miss any assigments because she doesn't do extensions.
her class is very easy, usually there is no class on Fridays only an assignment to do. she is good at getting people interested in her class, tells good stories. sometimes she speaks Spanish lol, like teaches partially in Spanish so be weary of that. very chill lady, tests are online
Really solid teacher, especially if you're taking the class for a gened. Her tests are open note but be sure to check the study guides and read the textbook because the other assignments aren't worth much and if you don't do well on a test your grade will take a pretty big hit.
Attendance isn't mandatory so you can just do everything from home. Tests are open note. Very easy class. Few assignments.
Never went to class, and I got an A. All exams are online and open-note. Very few assignments, and everything can be completed from home. Also posts all slides. Very easy class, definitely take it if you need an easy gen ed.
easiest gen ed ever. all the exams and class work is online, easy grader, attendance is not mandatory. She is the sweetest woman. loved this class.
Such an easy general education course; attendance was not mandatory, and all exams and quizzes were online and taken at home. Such a sweet la,dy please take her
Very nice lady but just reads off the slides in class. Attendance isn't graded + tests are open note. You are graded only on the tests as basically none of the weekly activities count. Don't buy the textbook. Watch assigned videos- they are tested on more than just understanding of main concepts. Again very nice/easy, I just found it unfulfilling.
Chacon is absolutely one of the sweetest professors I've ever taken (for the time I was actually in class, did not attend after sept.). Just know that attending class makes no difference at all, all videos, assignments, lectures, everything is open note and online. Lowkey, wouldn't even get the textbook, did not open it once the entire semester.
LOVE her. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I reccommend because her stories added a lot to the content. She was always friendly and warm. Light work; just take notes and do the easy weekly assignments and you'll do well. Exams are online, take home, and open note. Best gen ed I've taken.
I really loved taking SOCI 140 with Dr. Chacon, she was very enthusiastic about sociology and social issues in the world, and explained them with good details. I went to class, but the slides were always posted, and we had zoom class once a week, and the class content was very interesting. Assignments were limited, but easy and quick
