Yawn.
very boring. lacks clarity, but easy grader. fail tests, pass class... ???
Boring but easy
Open book tests, monotone lectures, and an accent that's a bit difficult. :(
The accent is a bit difficult. He tries hard but is very boring. Easy class.
Easy but way too boring
Don't even pay attention to him, just read the book
Hard To understand, knows about the subject
Hard to understand at times but knows what he is talking about.
Dump Scantron! Give students back answers to check for Scantron errors

tough accent, easy class, didn't learn a thing
Gives A's away for those willing to show up and work for it
left with a good grade, but didn't learn anything. very boring, bad accent.
This is a good class and Mr. Bai is really nice
Good prof, easier than Croom. Open book test are hard and notes don't help.
hard to understand-Just read the book
People just can't deal with someone a little different. This is a good class!
one of the funniest teachers i've ever had
I like prof. Bai, his class was the only one i did not mind going to-discussions
The fastest and easist A I ever received
Righ... Don't even try to understand him...an easy A
No Comments
Tries his very hardest to teach, sometimes hard to understand.. open book test
righ........he made us wach the previous days news nearly every day
Nice teacher, open book tests

Pretty good teacher, little problem in the beginnig till you catch on his accent
Easy class! no homework and open book tests!

once you figured out his accent he was a good teacher
best teacher
Funny teacher, open book tests good for learninga+++
Warning! Only open book for PS 110, NOT International Relations!!!
He is a great teacher. I learned a lot, take him!!!
Good class.
Hard to understand, don't expect to get a good grade unless you read the book. You do the same thing everyday so good class if like to skip.

has 3 different doctorates and cannot speak english

I never listened to him or read the book and I got an A. His test are open book open note (not that i took any)
Cake walk! I don't know if he's still doing it, but I had him fall 02 and every test was open book. If you can't ace this class, go back to high school.
dont underestimate him because of his accent, he is very smart and capable of teaching this class open book tests are easy but very time comsuming recommend reading the chapters ahead of time.
Very easy class. I don't understand why people are complaining about open book test or about his English. It's very easy to get an A, don't everybody want this, easy A? If you really wanted to learn something, take someone else's or read the book.
hard to understand, but a very nice man, I would have learned more if my other class members didn't act like they were in highschool
this guy was great, funny, and his class was exactly how i like them, if you know the material through his lectures and/or by reading, you should get an A
What's up with all of this prejudice anyway? I took his class a year ago and I had no difficulty understanding him.In fact,he speaks better english than many americans. He's a great teacher.Grow up.If you wanted to learn more, read the book. You bought
Why are people complaining about his English? If you don't understand, be an adult and ask him to repeat what he just said.
if you don't take tests very well, he doesn't offer anything else to earn points.
Hes a good professor. Class can be boring but lets you out early a lot. Likes to talk about beer. Open book and notes!! Not hard, no homework.
can not understand him and he is very boring...
He is a great teacher. Very easy. How many teachers do you come across were you don't have homework and have open book tests? Yea he is hard to understand sometimes, but he repeats himself all the time. Just keep your ears open and it will go good.
open book/notes tests are always a plus!!
great class, all the stuff from highscool just went out my ear, but Dr. Bai's lectures stuck in my head. He made the class fun and easy, i actualy learned in this class, great teacher and attitude, fun and easy
Nice guy, open book tests. Jokes around a bit and is very smart. Really knows his stuff. The only reason you can't understand him is because most of the people in class can't sit still for very long and are obnoxious.
Mr. Bai's class is very easy to pass and if you don't pass it is simple because you didn't go. All the tests are multiple choices and are open book and notes. There is no reason not to get an A.
how can you fail a open note, open book class...even on the final and mid terms?
Easy teacher. Open book/open note tests makes it a little hard to get a bad grade.
Just read the book and you'll do fine
Dr. Bai is a very caring, intelligent, funny professor. He is from China and holds a doctorate. You have to be a complete jackhole to fail his class. Just do him a favor and participate in lectures. I got an A-.
Yea he is hard to understand sometimes, but he repeats himself all the time. Just keep your ears open and it will go good.He is okay just study and imagine you speak another language. he is fine.
dr.Bai is a very cool teacher. I took the class blind folded and got an A. all his tests are open book tests. Don't read the bood you will actually test worse.(believe it or not!!!)
He was a good teacher. Some tests were hard but they are open book as well as the exam. It was a good course but he is hard to understand sometimes.
Fun class, kept things light when it got heated. Tests are VERBATIM from the text, people who say it's hard must not be able to read. Super easy A.
Cool guy just needs to work on his accent because i couldnt understand anything he ever said!!!
he's okay, i thought open book tests were supposed to be easy though
Dr. Bai is a cool guy. He can't speak much English, but his tests are open-book for a reason. There is absolutely no reason NOT TO GET AN A OR A- IN THIS CLASS. His tests are open-book and test questions come straight from it. Get him if you need a GPA boost.
Yan came from China and has a very strong accent, but he is doing rather well. He compensates for his speaking abilities in PS 110 by giving clear written notes and by having open book tests. Keeps track of grades very well.
If you pay attention, you will understand him fine. Open book tests. You have to work hard to not do well in this class. Worthwile class.
real easy open book open note test can u ask for more?
Since you have to take this class, take it with Prof Bai. He may be hard to understand for some people but if you can get used to it, he's got a lot of really intelligent things to say. Anybody should be able to get an A or a B on all his tests.
YAN BAI IS A GOOD TEACHER EVEN THOUGH HE IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND HE'S EASY. JUST GO TO CLASS AND TRY TO LISTEN AND IF THAT DOES NOT HELP READ THE CHAPTER FIRST. I WAS 7 MONTHS PREGNANT AND I MADE IT TO CLASS EVERY DAY WITH NO EXCUSE. I PASSED GOVERNMENT WITH A B AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE GOVERNMENT LIKE
this guy is one of those hidden comedians. one day we were talking about china in class someone started talking about everyone else knowing martial arts he responded that he just walked around with a brick.
Good teacher over all but really hard to under stand also tells you nothing about what is going to be on the tests.
He gave u sopen book open note tests. His questions are right out of the book WORD for WORD. so just read and go to class to get the attendance points. He is hard to understand but can make a few good jokes or two. he would ask the class if we thought we were doing ok. always ended class early
Easy class, just read the chapters. This semester no open book tests, but as long as you read the chapters you will get a good grade, you take 6 exams thats it. You cant really understand everything he says but if you take ps 110 take it with proffeser bai
Dr.Bai is a really funny teacher but he has a very strong accent!!If you are going to take PS110 his tests are NOT open book anymore!!!
Terrible! Don't bother going to class, just read the book...tests are straight out of the book. Really hard to understand, but he does crack some good jokes. Overall, really bad class...don't take it with him.
Knows his US gov. but not english. You will have a hard and boring time in this class.
Do not take this class with Dr. Bai. You can not understand him. You can get a good grade in his class if you are willing to tach yourself.
Nice guy, but boring. You just take notes and take the test. He's not open book tests anymore.. And I hear he changes the book each semester. Make sure you read the book not just your notes.
he is a good teacher. he is asian so he has an accent. he is a good teacher though. the class was hard. he challenges you. i took him w/ the open book and got a "C"! but he does not do that anymore. its probbaly easy now w/o the open book tests. Take him if you if want. hes a good teacher

Very easy course. Bai is a great man/instructor. Not to be repetitive, but he is a bit hard to understand. Other than that, just SCAN the book chapters, and ACE the tests. No notes needed. Good stuff!
Dr. Bai had a very heavy accent and seemed like he was going to make things very difficult on my first day of class. However, after the first day, I realized that all his tests were going to be 50-point, multiple choice questions and I was going to get 20 points added to my grade just for going to class; this class is easy if you take it with Bai.
This was a very nice teacher that would answer questions. Give him a chance. THe on-line class is easier I heard than in the class room.
He sucks!!!!!!!!!!! Don't ever take this teacher. You cannot understand a freakin word he says and all you do is sit in class for three hours taking notes that don't even help on the tests.
He's an extremely nice man who's willing to take the time with you about anything so long as you show a bit of interest.
He is a pretty good teacher, just somewhat hard to understand, because he has a heavy Chinese accent. Overally, he isn't too bad at all. Just make sure you sit in the front of the class so you can hear him.
Hard to understand him but a nice man.
Dr Bai is a super nice guy. Fairly funny in his own way. Yes, the thick accent doesn't help, but he tries. I hate government and between my lack of interest and his boring lectures it's impossible to stay awake. Go to the online site, take the practice tests read your book and you'll do fine. Going to class I found was unneccesary except to take the tests...
Dr. Bai is a great professor if you take him online. His written english is much clearer than his spoken english and we still accomplish everything online that we would in a classroom.
the first day you cannot understand him, but you will eventually get used to it. However, his classes are extremely boring, so just make sure you take all the notes down, and actually read the book even though you never use it in class, and you might have a B, but try to get someone else if you can
No homework, study the online practice tests. Don't bother with notes, just read the chapter. 20 extra points for perfect attendance, and no final exam. He shows some videos and he's a pretty likeable guy. I wouldn't recommend anyone else!
Great teacher, heavy accent, but you can figure it out. It is funny to listen to a Chinese teacher who knows more about our government than we do--he has three PHd's. He is a great person. I have much respect for him. As long as you pay attention and make some effort to answer his questions in class, you will do good. (BTW, I didn't need the book.)
VERY VERY BORING, just read the darn book - dont even listen to him take notes. The test is all on the reading. I could have stayed home from class every day and just read and got an A. He doesnt care about people, but at least you dont have to do any work other than study for the test. Thats the only grades you have, ur test grades.
Didnt need the booK????? What the??? Thats all the tests were based on, there were exact sentences from the book he used as questions on the test. Very boring teacher, study and reread chapters of the book and you will do good. Very few A's in my class. Very bad teaching style, and tests were not easy. He must have changed, hes harder now!
I loved him! If you listen to him he knows what he's talking about, and he can be quite funny at times. Sometimes a boring class, but if you just bare with him it's easy.
Bai has a very boring class. He also has a very thick accent. Example: "Right?=Rahh?". On top of his accent, he speaks very quietly. Make sure you sit in front of class. He gives out a little sheet of the test review. Kind of hard to study when he is so vague on what we are to know for the test.I still get A's on tests however.Look through the book
this guy is a total moron. he makes me want to die. his class is so boring and he repeats himself 5-6 times on everything he "says" i do not like him as a teacher at all!!!
He really does know his stuff and he is passionate about teaching. The only problem is the language barrier. This makes his class boring even if you DO enjoy politics. Just read the book, the tests are straight-forward.
While it is true that sometimes the students wish for close captions to his rough English, he is a fair teacher and can be weirdly funny that can break up the intense boredom if you pay attention.
Horribly boring class and lectures, but what could I expect out of a gov't class? Nice guy, funny in his own way, knows his stuff though his English is rough. Tests are pretty easy as long as you read the book.
I loved his classes. I have atken three of his classes and, dispite the language barrier, he teahces in a whlistic manner. He gives you the background, not just the book info. He is very knowledgeble. He was a Chinese diplomat for some time before coming here. He also got 100 on his citizenship exam. Ais you ever go in the man's office, he ha
Good Professor!
took his online class very easy
He is funny as hell, but not the easiest teacher I have ever had, but I also suck at government, so if you like government he is a really awesome guy. He is a little hard to understand at first, but you get the hang of it. Just read! His tests are based on the book, so if you read and TAKE NOTES, you will be fine.
Really awesome guy.He is REALLY funny! I am terrible in gov. so I struggled a bit, but just read the book and you will be good.He is a little hard to understand at first, but after a while you get used to it.
Ok his english is rough!!!!! But he is really nice and funny, but the grading is based on wheather he is having a good day or not!!! so good luck to you.
Give the guy a chance and he is a GREAT prof. I would not recommend sitting in the back, as he does not speak loudly, but his English is NOT that bad. Very knowledgeable of the subject, tests are from notes, review sheets and book. Not to mention, the man is hilarious!
I took the online class, and the Webtutor really is not even necessary. The tests are from the book, so if you read the chapter and post three times a week, you will not even get any points taken off!
He's great!
i cannont understand a word that this guy says i have understood every 9th word that he has said since i have been in the class
I thought this would be an interesting class, I was wrong. Even though attendance was mandatory, all you need to do is watch the discovery channel, etc. if you want to know what he is "teaching". Good guy but hard to follow. His tests consist of about 10-15 multiple choice and 2 short essays, so if you don't know a few qustions you're screwed.
I would have done better if I would have just read the book and just come on the test day. The lectures are a complete waste of time and you have to come to class if you want extra credit. Don't sit in the back because he is soft spoken and hard to understand. Horrible Political Science Teacher. Should be fired.
you guys are out of your minds this is by far the most easy class ive ever taken,he has on article due ever chapter which you can just copy and paste random stuff and one test for every chap..you get more points for showing up for class then you do doing the work, watch movies EASY AAAAAAAAAA
Yes, his english is horrible. But the guy used to be a Chinese Diplomat!! He knows what he is talking about! I took his summer class... by far the easiest class I have ever taken! Just study your notes and read the book and your golden. Even if you don't understand, everything he is saying is on the overhead!! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
Take this class online. You post three times a week, once each time, and take quizzes directly out of the book. Easiest government class ever, and since it's required for most students, being able to use the book for tests is very helpful.
take this class online the tests are so easy and they are word for word out of the book and they are multiple choice questions. post 3 times and take test and you will have an A. So EASY!!! Take online!!!
The guy knows what he is talking about, but he is VERY hard to understand. If government isn't your subject, then I suggest that you find someone else to take it with.
Wow. This was the easiest class I have ever taken. Take it online! You post three times a week and take an online test with no time limit. You could take seven days on it and its no problem. I have heard you cant understand this guy in a classroom setting. I believe it! Even his online posts are hard to understand ha ha. TAKE ONLINE! EASY EASY A!
I dreaded taking this class as politics/government just never interested me but this class taught me the importance of understanding politics and the importance of being aware of them. This was an online class and was a fantastic one. Assignments were easy, quizzes were from the book, and discussions were informative. Professor Bai is great!
Dr.Bai have his own teaching style. He has knowledge and experiences. If you wanted to do good in his class, read the book, all the test question(word to word) from the book!Tests are the only thing graded. The note is only an outline from the book and do not rely on it. Overall he is ok, and there are no homework.
Maybe a little bit hard to understand sometimes, but he's good otherwise. He encourages conversation and knows his stuff. He can also be quite funny. The class I took with him wasn't too hard, not too easy.
Mr.Bai puts a sheet on the projector everyday it is basically an outline for the test. No study guides, no homework, and no help. Hard class if you don't plan on reading the ENTIRE book.
nice guy and he's very smart but i didnt like his teaching style. he has an accent and talks softly. the tests aren't really based on what he says in class. their from the book writers so READ it! about 15 M.C. questions and 2 essays. a couple of tests had short answer/definition questions. 20 E.C. points if u attend every class. take advantage!
I took online class and it was very easy.
his online class is very easy tests are not timed, and they are word for word out of the book, so if you don't mind learning anything take his online class
Great class, good subject matter. Dr. Bai is one of those professors who encourages class participation and dialogue. We stayed mostly on topic (though it was an election year) and every class was interesting and fun.
hard to understand, speaks softly and barely and english
Took his (required) class online. Post to discussion Board 3 days/week and take an open book test each week. Simple. I did learn alot about government in his class and I wasn't stressed out like I thought I would be!
Easiest online course I've ever taken. "Tests" online- didn't even read chapters as questions and answers are stated right in book. Post at least three times on three DIFFERENT days...15 points right there. Hmmm...any actual studying??? Nada.
I sat front and center after a few class periods because I could not understand him. His tests are extremely hard and half way through my semester over 50% of the class was failing. You must be on top of your game for this class!
I took his online class... VERY easy, Tests are not timed so you have plenty of time to look up the answers in the book, 3 discussion posts a week.. Very easy class, no reason to not get an A in this class. Yet i did learn a lot about the American government!
Great Professor. His class isn't difficult If you attend class and skim the chapter beforehand to understand the key points, and he clarifies the difficult/important topics in class. You're missing out if you don't attend class because he allows for a lot of on-topic class discussion. Take his classes if you want to learn a lot from a great prof
This teacher was boring. He speaks slowly and it takes him 2 minutes to form a whole scentence! The test are diffcult. He teaches his notes but noting from his notes are on the test! READ THE BOOK. its a waste of time going to his class but if you do go every day you get 20 extra points, you will need them!!
great professor. yeah he is a little hard to understand but he is very funny and makes the class interesting. READ THE BOOK before tests though. the notes he goes over in class doesnt cover all that will be on the tests. overall a great professor and a nice guy.
I am a straight A student and still am at the end of this class but this proffesor is awful. The notes in class are pretty useless and he talks about china all the time. (he's from there). If you can, take him for an online course, it's easy, but if you have him for a lecture... GET OUT NOW!
Dr. Bai is a fantastic teacher. he is difficult to understand at first but all you need to do is ask. He is very lenient but is also extremely knowledgeable. If your lazy, dont take this class. If you want a well rounded education, Dr. Bai is one of the best at GRCC.
There is no doubt this man is extremely intelligent, and even has a great sense of humor. However, I had the HARDEST TIME understanding what he was saying...which made his lectures useless to me. He is friendly and easy going, but be sure to do all the required reading, or you won't pass. Period. Also, take advantage of extra credit ops.
Overall he is a great fun knowledgeable teacher. He knows what he is talking about and does his best to make class understand. I would definitely take him again. Make sure to always read the book however because notes can sometimes be confusing.
READ THE BOOK! His lecture notes are useless. He just rambles about things that have nothing to do with the chapeter. Less than 20% of the questions on his tests are what he covered in lecture. The questions are specific, especially about people so make sure you remember details. At least he offers some extra credit and drops the lowest test score.
4 Tests & 4 papers. Papers are easy and tests are moderate. Some of the questions are from ?. He uses the book's test questions so it's nothing against him just the book. Did offer some extra credit to help offset.
I was in an online class, so I have no idea what he is like in person. He's very easy and doesn't weigh you down with work. The only problem I had was his lack of interaction with the class.
There are 4 test, one of them was a take-home. & 4 two page-double spaced opinion based essays. Has an abundance in knowledge so he can get off topic. Overall, an easy class.
I took his online class and was GLAD I did! I heard from various people, the on campus class can be difficult. There was a test per chapter and 3questions per chapter on the discussion board. I highly recommend the online class, it was fairly easy with not much work other than reading and posting comments. :)
He gives out far too much work and little effort is put into instruction. He puts out a 5 in. summary podcast that does you no good. Between the tests, the weekly essay, and the discussions class takes about 20 hours. I would recommend a digital book so you can search terms found in the text during testing. otherwise tack on another 20 hours.
He was extremely hard to understand but a fun instructor nevertheless. He would crack a joke and it would take us all a few moments to understand what he meant. Test's were quite easy as well
I took his online course and it was very easy. We read one chapter per week, had 3 discussion board postings, and one test per chapter. The questions on the test are directly out of the book, which you can use on the test (although if you read and understand the text you shouldn't need the book). He interacts with the class as well. Good prof.
sit near the front... he speaks very quite. and reads directing off a word document
I took his online class, it was SUPER easy! We did two chapters a week, a test for each and then discussion boards. I learned a lot and found the work easy to get accomplished. I would definitely reccomend him!
Took government in the summer while working 45+ hours a week. There was a ton of work, but the work was easy. Read two textbook chapters a week, take 2 multiple choice tests, and answer 6 questions (3 from each chapter). You need to answer each question from a chapter on a different day for 3 total days.
I took this class online. It was very easy because we used the book, but very time consuming. Must post 4 of 7 days and a test every week that he encourages you to not wait till sunday for. Overall, I loved taking this class online and was very satisfied.
took his class online, super easy but very time consuming. tests are easy and not timed. he takes forever to respond to emails and comes off very rude.overall if you are looking for an easy A take his online class
Every week you have to post at least 4 times a week in a discussion board, and you have one test every week ranging from 60-72 questions. All the questions are straight from the book, but it is time consuming. But you write no papers or essays or have any projects so the class is an easy A.
Government: The course work was easy as long as you keep up, though, I wouldn't count on having any of your questions answered EVER. For a professor who teaches an online course, I would say that Yan Bai demonstrates extremely poor communication skills. I have yet to hear back from ONE of the 6 emails I sent him during the semester.
You will have to post 4 DB and a test each week. The tests are not timed, and he urges you to use your book. The test ?'s are straight from the book. Just take your time looking for the answers and you'll get an A in the class. No other work outside of tests and DB.
Currently, I am taking PS 110 online course with this Professor. He does require a lot in discussion boards, but if you follow his syllabus and answer the questions correctly, it should be pretty straight forward. I like the fact that he does not require a cumulative final exam, only Chapter tests each week. I recommend his online class.
He has a accent that is sometimes hard to understand, but he is a pretty good, informative professor.
EASY A! Seriously, take online. Do not waste your time going to a class. All you have to do is read a chapter each week, take a test each week BUT (it is not timed and it is open book!) SO UM 100% on every test. Have to answer 4 questions on discussion board (each question on a different day). NO PAPERS, NOTHING. Easiest class I have taken by far.
Favorite class, easy A. Just do the work. Tests are easy no papers. Everything is right from the book.
If you get him, he's nice and all, but I constantly e-mailed him questions and I never got responses. He never gives any assignments so if you can learn just reading the text and listening to the lecture then you'll be fine. His accent is a little strong and he speaks softly so it's hard to understand him most of the time. DO DISCUSSION BOARD ?
I took PS 110 online and I really enjoyed the class. As everyone else has stated, we read 1 chapter a week, had 4 discussion board questions assigned that had to be answered on 4 different days and 1 chapter test at due at the end of the week. The tests are untimed, you just cannot go back on a question. Only emailed once, he answered right away.
Easy class. Professor Bai doesn't respond to emails quickly at all. It would probably be easier to actually go in to his classroom on campus. Need to use the textbook, but the online code is optional. I didn't need to use it.
Must participate four times a week for credit, no exceptions. Make use of the online book and get an A. The wording in the syllabus was confusing to me, I asked him to clarify and he made me feel stupid for asking by saying that "just so you know, no one else has asked this" Be prepared to go it alone because he has fully ignored emails of mine.
I really enjoyed this online class. Surprisingly, I actually learned things from the tests every week. The tests are 60-70 questions per week, but they're not timed and all of the answers are in the textbook word for word. There are four 150 word discussion boards every week, but they're really easy. It was an easy A for me, and I would recommend!
Don't waste your time taking this class in person unless you are going into this field. This class is so easy online and you'll learn everything you need to know. Professor Bai was a little slow responding to emails sometimes but it wasn't anything urgent so it wasn't a big deal. He's very nice, he sent encouraging emails to the class all semester.
Discussion board posts every single week, I took this as a summer class so it was faster and more posts were required each week. If you don't post each week you will get a low grade. Tests are straight from the book, not timed so you can take as long as you want. Easy class
He's hard to understand, he doesn't have a good teaching voice so it's easy to zone him out. Sometimes you don't know if he's talking to himself or the class. Doesn't give you any idea what is going to be on the test
He is a very interesting man but in a good way. He says some funny things and he also shares some corny jokes which makes the class the best. His lectures do feel like forever but it is an easy class if you do all the extra credit. The tests are pretty hard, but if you read the book, take the little tests in it, review your notes you'll do fine.

He says some funny things, and he knows what he's talking about (if you can understand him). The class grades go only by tests, no homework or group work. There are extra credit opportunities- do all of them. I never knew what was going to be on the test and he never prepared you much for that. Just make sure you know the vocab & read the book
One of the worst professors I ever had. Stay away from this man's class. He speaks very low and has an accent on top of it. Very unorganized, we were behind at least 2 tests according to the syllabus. He doesn't know when the tests are. Avoid his class at all costs. I hear his online course is easy, but I would stay away.
Although he may have an accent, please don't take that as a reflection of his teaching. His accent is not as major as some people on here are making it sound, and it doesn't change what is taught. Having only the tests graded was a bit of a pain since it only means having 5 items to grade from, but if you read the book and study you should be fine.
4 discussion posts and an open book exam each week. Get the kindle book and you can search every question. pretty easy. The way it should be.
For online: He will tell you you need the online access code. You do not. Honestly, you barely need the textbook. Tests are weekly and do not have time limits. With a little common sense, you can find most of the answers on Google. You have to post four times a week (on different days) and that can be a nuisance. Poor communicator, but easy class.
This class was beyond easy. There are 2 discussion board posts per week and then there is an open book test each week. The tests take around 1 hour to complete, but you can search all of the answers in the online access code. This class takes 2 hours a week, and is easy.
Read the book. Did I mention to read the book?
Hard to understand. I was for-warned not to take his class because of his poor English and wish I could do it all over. I would look or another teacher if I were you.
First of all this man should not teach U.S. Government when he can barely speak English. Any word with the letter S sounds like a flat tire. i felt cheated because he was such a poor instructor. Do not take this class with this professor. You will regret it like I did.
This class is way to much for summer. On-line posts four times a week for attendance with 150 word count two questions each day. Plus two tests each week with at least 65 questions. This is not east unless your a young student who doesn't work and has no kids and this is the only class you take.
He's a nice guy, he really is. The one thing that frustrated me, in fact, was when people would make remarks about his birthplace of origin and how he "shouldn't be teaching American gov't." He knows his stuff, HOWEVER, you can pretty much guarantee an A if you do all the extra credit even if you have no idea what's actually going on in class.
The only thing we really did for grades were tests. I didn't ever really study, but instead did the extra credit and that made up for the few things I missed. His class is just lectures. He can't speak English all that well, but his caring attitude makes up for it.
He has a quiet voice which can make him difficult to understand. He has six test that make up the final grade which are kind of difficult. Thankfully there is easy extra credit to make up for the lost points. He really knows what he is teaching about and has a passion for American Government.
Took PS 110 online. If not for grades coming in, I might not have even known I had a professor. Answered my first couple of emails, and then nothing. Laziest, most worthless instructor I've had yet. That said, pretty darned easy. Just don't expect any engagement, feedback, or other instructor participation.
TAKE POLI SCI ONLINE- it is so much easier online than in class. NO ESSAYS. One quiz and test per week, both open book. No final. 4 discussion board posts required per week, but it is totally doable.
Online class was super straightforward. Reading and response type questions. A lot of using your own thoughts and opinions. Easy assignments, but lots of writing.
Online class, discussion boards and quizzes.
I took this class and a lot of the questions were not in the book so be careful. I was online so I would use the textbook on the test and would find the question in the book and then the answer and still get it wrong. I am not sure how you are supposed to pass when the textbook he gives you is wrong. Unclear professor!!!
Very straight forward. Clearly lined out what was due. Very structured and easy to get ahead.
PI110 was a cakewalk with Professor bai. Weekly online discussions and Test when required. Nothing more nothing less. Take Bai for PS110
He was a bit difficult to understand but as long as you showed up to class and studied for tests and do the extra credit you'll be fine. I fell asleep almost everyday and he never marked me down because he doesnt even learn students names. The tests are NOT weighted except for the final which was helpful.
Tan Bai is a passionate teacher when it comes to lecturing on Political Science. He is very soft-spoken, so I had a hard time hearing everything he discussed in class. But what you'll need to do to pass his class is to read the chapters for each exam-take notes too. The online portion was an easy way to get a decent grade in his class.
Easy online class. One test a week and you can stop and resume as much as you want, which is good because they can be pretty lengthy with 60-80 questions! Doesn't do a cumulative exam. Easy to reach by email.
Mr. Bai is a super nice guy. However, he talks softly and is very hard to hear and understand because of his heavy accent. Although I think he is passionate about what he does, If you already struggle with government classes, I highly recommend you do not take it with him.
It wasn't just me, it was a majority of the whole class that had a problem with this man. He whispers and mumbles when he speaks doesn't do much class participation, no matter where you sit you won't be able to hear(i tried)! He doesn't explain things, have you take notes, read the book and BOOM a test all in the same week.
The online class is incredibly simple. Post in the discussion 4 times a week, take a 20 question quiz and a 46 question test (unlimited time with resume later options). DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! I didn't use the book the entire semester and I got 100%. Complete waste of money. ANYTHING you need to know can be found with a quick google search.
Dr. Yan Bai's online class was pleasant. Read the chapter, take a quiz and a test, and make 4 structured discussion posts/week. He was easy to reach by email. I feel like I learned a ton.
His English is not very good and he's hard to understand. He lectures most of the time. We took about 6 tests this semester, but no papers. He has extra credit available. He's not a tough grader as long as you show up, do mindtap homework, extra credit, and tests you will pass. The tests are a small percentage of your grade.
Many of us couldn't understand him because he is a soft spoken person and has an accent. The class overall wasn't bad, I would just read the chapters in class instead of listen to the lecture. There are only tests and they're challenging a breeze if you read. I would say this class is very book heavy so plan on relying on it. There was only tests.
His lectures are extremely dry and make the entire class drag BUT it is nearly impossible to fail this class. Extra credit is offered for every test so you could nearly fail the test but if you do the extra credit you'll still get 100%. His accent is difficult to understand, but it is easy to adjust and he really knows his facts.
He's usually really hard to understand because of a thick accent, but very lecture heavy.
Prof Bai does not seem to care about his students. Anytime I had a problem with this class he either didn't respond or would respond saying he couldn't help me. There is a test and a quiz every week as well as posts in the discussion board and some other random things. I would not take a class from him again.
He's a nice guy and funny, but it's hard to understand him at first. It took me a while to sort of get used to him. Either way, I did all the reading during class instead of listening to the lectures. The class was fine, but do the extra credit! I can't stress it enough. If you do it and then get mediocre grades on the tests, you will get an A!
Let me start off by saying I loved Professor Bai! You could definitely tell that he has a passion for what he teaches. But.. if you consider yourself an "Auditory Learner" you may want to choose a different professor because his accent is THICK and he speaks very QUIETLY. Sit near the FRONT if you do have him. Great professor in all other aspects.
The homework is consistent every week, so you know exactly what is expected. The textbook assigned was bearable. I actually feel liked I've learned something which is fairly rare with online classes. Would recommend for those who are independent and self starters.
He is a decent professor overall, but if you would actually like to LEARN, consider a different professor, it was very difficult to understand his lectures due to the fact that they are very indirect but the way he structured his class (how to gain points) made it easy to accumulate easy points that are not based off of just exams.
IF you want an American history teacher that speaks in broken English, here is your chance to learn in what I would call mumbling for about 85% of the class, it is brutal bud. He does not know how to work his own online program. he will test you on stuff that is in the following chapters. Good luck!
This professor was okay at teaching but was extremely difficult to understand from accent and quiet demeanor. Tests were often and large. Homework was steady and the same every week so you knew what was expected. I don't think id take his class again if I had the choice. I need something more clear.
WORST professor ever. kicked me out of class on the first day for being 4 minutes late. doesnt deserve his job.
Extremely easy class. Do the work and you'll get an A. Every week you read a chapter, answer a few questions, and take a quiz. You also must answer 2 of the 4 questions he posts in the discussion board every weeks. 500 minimum word count. This was the hardest part, but only took 20 minutes. No final exam. Highly recommend this online class!
Prof does not speak very good English and mumbles a lot! I sat in the second row of the class and could barely hear him half the time. He tries to be humorous but you can't understand him. All the homework is online on MindTap, which he does a good job of keeping track of even though he is not tech-savvy. He needs help form students to play DVDs...
The professor has a heavy accent, and along with his quiet voice makes it incredibly hard to hear him. 98% of the class is just taking notes from a windows document, 1% political videos, and 1% taking large tests. When taking notes, he stands in front of the projector screen, making at least two thirds of the class bob and weave just to read it.
He is not the most responsive and his grades are tough but not horrible. The tests are hard and he doesn't always get grades back right away
I took this class online and it went great. His grading criteria is straight forward. The course consisted on 2 discussion boards a week, 2 mindtap assignments (which can be done unlimited amounts of times until you get an 100%, if you'd like), and a test every week on the chapter that was assigned that specific week. He grades fairly, easy A.
I was nervous to take a class with professor Bai given the mixed reviews but I was pleasantly surprised and would absolutely take again. I took the online class, the grading criteria was straightforward and consistent. If you did your work your grade will reflect that. No complaints.
I took this prof for PS 110 in the summer semester. I was so nervous because of the online format. I had trouble with my Cengage code and emailed him. He emailed me before class started to make sure that I was good! Class consisted of watching a video, answering questions, taking a test and writing a 300 word essay. Great prof and cares about you!
Professor Bai is bar far the most organized online professor I've taken a class with. As a full-time online student - this is SO helpful. His expectations are clear and comprehensive. Liked him so much, also too another class with him. Highly recommend.
My second class with Professor Bai. He's very organized in the online platform which is great. This 200-level class was definitely more difficult than the 100-level I took with him, which is appropriate in my opinion. Best advice? Do the reading and you'll do well on the weekly tests.
I have not even finished Yan's class and here I am. I would never take this professor again. He had us buy a textbook that had a political science class included with it. I am taking the class through the textbook. NEVER connect anything to current events unless you want a zero. Zero out of ten professor.
Im not sure if its because the class is online, but it is quite a bit of reading and homework. However, it is all interesting material and very relevant to whats going on in the world right now. Prof. Bai gives great feedback on essays and is easy to reach with questions. Its a lot of work but I have enjoyed his class!
Every week we did the same thing. A few assignments on mindtap, a short paper, and a test. There are plenty of points to help boost your grade. The tests are open book. Overall, good class if you do the work.
Great Professor! His syllabus makes the class sound like a cold, uncaring environment but he is a fair and just teacher who cares about his students. Lots of reading but the tests, essays and quizzes are all reasonable.
For his online classes, Bai does not post any sort of lectures or provide much support. The assignments are relatively easy, but the professor is not accessible. His assignments are either on Cengage (which requires an access code) or there's a short essay and test on Blackboard. He gives feedback for the essay, however it's not in a timely fashion
He's tough on his stuff but is super clear on what to do to achieve an A in his class. If you take his online class read all the instructions he has tucked away into different areas. It really helps.
really great guy! he is very understanding and will do everything he can to ensure you pass. def knows his stuff but you will have to study to receive an A.. and this is coming from a polisci major..
Pretty decent professor. Im taking him again for another class and I feel good about that choice. Theres 4 assignments each week: quiz (cengage), assignment on cengage, short essay, test. Gives good feedback on the essay. Pretty average workload and class, I enjoyed it and Im not a huge fan of the subject even.
BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.
I was nervous about this class. Excuse I have sever anxiety around tests. But the laid back and structured grading criteria were so helpful. I knew going into the week what was expected that week and every week. I was never overwhelmed. I would take a class with this professor again in a heartbeat.
Took online. Very clear instructions for all assignments, but you will never hear from the professor. No class activities so you will feel completely alone. He's a tougher grader for papers (of which there are a lot) but lays out the rubric. Textbook was not a fun read. So many quizzes and tests!
Tough grader but not terrible. I took his class during the summer. If I did take his class again I would definitely focus more on being very specific in my writing.
Okay a couple of things to lay out here: You will notice many different mixed reviews here, ranging from horrible to the best professor ever. Usually the people who didn't do well in the class, rated poorly. You will only fail in his classes if you don't read the criteria, and don't follow his rubric. It is an easy class if you put effort in.
Textbook is around $90 and mandatory. He does not provide any lecture videos. Get ready to teach yourself. Overall I thought the amount of work was not necessary and it did not help me learn. If you have no background knowledge on international politics or politics in general do not take this prof.
This class was the hardest class that I have taken. We had homework that was due before the exams, it was short but super hard. We had to take 4 exams throughout his class, they were all really hard, even if you studied the textbook it was hard. He also talked really quietly so you couldn't really understand what he was saying half the time.
Here is the thing, it's a tough class. You get an essay, quiz, and test with a chapter to read in a $90 textbook every week. However, that's it. There wasn't an exam and it's the same every week. Ended up getting an A by actually reading the textbook + taking notes. I'm actually going to take PS 201 as well since I already know how the class works.
I was recently dropped from Bai's class for "not attending class". The class was all online and there were zero Zoom meetings. I emailed him asking why he only gave me a 8 word reply. Very unprofessional and now I'm stuck with a DR grade. This is three weeks in and the most points I've gotten off from an assignment is 2. He shouldn't have a job.
All of his coursework, tests, and quizzes are all through the same program so it was pretty simple to follow. He also requires a 500 word essay each week about what you learned. But the format of the class remained the same all semester. No final exam which was nice. He also requires all assignments to be turned in or he lowers you a letter grade.
I liked that every week was the same. It was boring at times, but at least I always knew what needed to be done. There is a lot of reading required. I just wish there was a bit more engagement.
If at any point you struggle, life gets in the way, you don't understand an assignment, or you need help; assume that Professor Bai isn't going to help you or reply in a timely manner to do anything anyway. You're stupid for not knowing. Expect to lose significant points if something is incorrect, and don't expect feedback that has value or merit.
Tests are 90 minutes long for 60 "gotcha" style questions. Sometimes the answers aren't in the textbook. Multiple choice options are verbose, sneaky, and take more than the allotted 1.5 min per question to process. It's a setup to fail. Not the kind of teacher looking to help students succeed.
The class is tough, with a heavy workload and rigid structure. However, putting in the effort by reading the textbook and taking notes can pay off. I found unstuckstudy ai to be a helpful study tool alongside the course materials.
I took a dual enrollment course, but the instructor was strict and graded opinion-based questions as if there was only one right answer, making it frustrating. When I had trouble submitting essays, his dismissive response felt unhelpful. 0 communication skills. I wouldn't retake this course due to rigid grading and lack of flexibility.
This online course had a 500-word essay, 20 20-question quizzes, and 60 60-question tests every week on different material. The teacher never taught and only assigned textbook readings, the quizzes and tests were on the readings only and were extremely difficult, and he gave no extra credit.
I learned a lot from this class but the assignments were difficult. I had to read a 60+ page chapter with a quiz, an essay, and a test which consisted of 60 multiple choice questions due in 90 minutes. I spent hours note taking but the test questions were so confusing and specific that I often ran out of time even though I understood the content.
I found this course to be useful and I learned a lot. A total of 65 quiz questions per week on top of a 500-word minimum essay. The essays were engaging and thought-provoking and encouraged researching different perspectives on issues. It's a tough class, being a 4-credit hour course, but I would absolutely recommend it to anybody.
I thought the class was engaging and the essays really make you think. If you anticipate needing extra time or missing class, I would not recommend this course. To be fair, it's a 4 credit course and the work is reflective of that.
