New teacher. Tries very hard. Learned a lot but class was pretty hard (at least for me). Beware of the project......
I loved this teacher. She is so nice and really wants you to learn. She also gives sample exams before the test that are almost exactly like the real thing. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do well.
Professor Jin is one of the best finance teachers. She explains concepts very thoroughly and will always check for understanding. There is limited homework, and one project - which she prepares you for well. Her tests are pretty easy also, and she gives you a lot of practice exams. SO NICE!
Professor Jin makes the topic easy to understand and her exams are based on practice problems that she postes on her web site (EASY A). I would take another class with her if I have the chance.
Good teacher. Tests mirror the study guides. allows cheet sheet for tests!! A pushover for quizzes, will allow taking pop quizzes after the lecture. Take her!! (very young)
she explains the material really well A+++.. very nice teacher.. cares about her students wants her students to do well.. best teacher i had so far this semester.. just study go to class and you'll do fine..
She is knows her stuff. I took both classes with her. You will with out a doubt get a good grade in her class if you keep up. Don't leave everything up to the last minute. Over all she is good take the class with her. She is probably the best out there.

EXTREMELY NICE and KIND PERSON !!! Exams all from sample tests. Got A in all her classes. Doesn't give you hard time like other professors!Take her,- you'll never regret.

Great Class! Very clear and easy to understand. Material is not difficult if you try. She is smart and knows what she is talking about. Best Fin 435 instructor so far.
Great professor. The material can seem challenging at first, but her lectures and problem sets are so clear that it's hard not to do good in the class.

She is a nice professor but grades very hard. Pratice test do not mirror the exams, regardless of what the previous comments say they are trickier. She definetly wants to pass everyone but don't expect her to hand you an A.
Excellent prof. You'll learn a lot. Class is mainly case studies though some days may be lecture. 1 midterm, final, and a group project. She gives 4 pop quizzes and 7 WebCT quizzes which will force you to learn the material in order to keep up. Uses the book in all class meetings. Tests are hard so prepare well. Allows a one sided cheat sheet.
Class was hard. I mean I study and study and still found that the tests were hard. When taking the final (2 1/2 hrs!!) ppl hadnt even finished. Hardest test by far! She is very knowledgable, but very hard to follow.
Makes things seem really simple during lectures, then expects you to know more than she taught during group project/final. Final was very LONG and DIFFICULT. Much more difficult than the material she presented in class HW & lectures. I would avoid. Not like the plague, but still, avoid.
Nice lady-really good for one-on-one help. Lectures really stink. Can't understand her most of the time and speeds right through it. Just study practice problems, get a good group and study-alot for the final. 1 presentation, 1 paper, 4 test, 5 Online quizs and 1 final...good luck
This teacher is rude, she snaches things from your hand, doesn't answer your questions, tells you your paper is good at first then gives you a bad grade. If you want to learn don't take her. Her tests are easy if you study the hw. 2 exams with MC and work problems. Make sure you know what WACC is for the Final.
I appreciated Prof. Jin's class. Make sure you attend class and keep up with her lecture. Her class can be hard if you don't have even a general interest in business. Ask questions and learn as much as you can. Overall, I was pleased with the experience.
this class was very hard...... I took it in the summer. She is not very clear and the test are very difficult. I got a C+
I'll try to stay objective. Shld take a pillow to class to sleep; monotone the whole class time. Lets u use 1pg cheat sheet for test. Don't really learn much; will forget the material in 5.2 days. One good thing: VERY lenient on the curve.
STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!! She is not a very good teacher. It is her first time teaching FIN 437.
She curves......but she is hard!!! Take someone else
good students say her class is easy, bad student say her class is hard. it is 400 level class, what are you expecting? no any effords, donot go to class, but receive an A? Just a little efford, go to her class, you will get an A!!! plus she allows us to bring a cheating sheet. Study the material so you what to put on the cheating sheet.
This class is fairly easy, but you still need to come to every class and pay attention during the lecture. The midterm and final are straight from her lecture and the sample problems. If you have questions, go to her office hours and ask her and you will have no problem getting a good grade in her class.
She simply cannot grasp any sort of command of the English language, I found it difficult to understand much of anything that came out of her mouth. I would strongly recommend another professor if you have other options...
Not sure what previous person was talking about. She barely has an accent! She explains everything in detail and spends extra time to go over problems students don't understand. Exams (2 total) are hard but if you study her lectures and problem sets (which are designed to prepare you for exams), you'll be all set. 2 projects which are not hard.
Take someone else if you can
A great professor!! She tries to help you in every way she can.
i thought that she was a pretty good professor and explains the material well. 3 tests only, all multiple choice. u really need to study and know the material well in order to do well in the tests. 30 q's in the first 2 test, 40 q's in the final. u can fail a test very easily.
What do u know another teacher at CSUN that can't speak good and understandable english. I would say that attending her class is necessary but whats the point when u can't understand her. Much like the teacher the book was horrible. If u can take someone else, if u have to take her get a intrepreter.
she is terrible at explaining anything because she reads straight from powerpoint. 3 tests, all get harder and contain things not discussed in class. She tries to act like she cares by offering a curve, but the curve is based on excel and how you rank in the class regardless of your grade. ranked 32/62 between 2 classes and still got a C-
BAD teacher, Stay away, took her for online class FIN 303. SHe had a rediculous grading criteria. Have you ever had to read 600 pages to study all the material, to take her quizes, each worth 1 tyny point to not even be eligible for a D??? crazy useless teacher. 25 % of your grade was writing essays for corporate updates from CNN. A=930 points.
Take her if you HATE YOURSELF.Her online class:21 chapter quizzes, 25 ESSAYS with 500 words min. It's INSANE!!! If you have nothing else to do and love essays and studying on your own, take her.I am sure CSUN has better though. I dropped her and will never choose her again.
She is definitely a hard teacher. However she really is helpful during office hours or even after class. She even printed up all power points for me before each class. Saved me a ton of paper and $. If your a finance major looking to be pushed and challenged A TON, then take her. If your looking for just a " get by " class, then stay away from her.
This class would have been pretty easy if it weren't for the 20 essays that were required. Very time consuming for an online class! I would take it in a lecture hall instead!
This teacher seems really nice but I cannot understand her!!! Her accent and voice is so low-it is impossible to get what she is saying-even with the stupid powerpoints! I tried talking to her in her office-to see if that might help but no-she does not speak good english-very heavy accent
Online class is time consuming, ferocious workload. If you got the time, take it. 20 essays, 16 quizzes (30 q's each) 4 practice tests (50 Q's each) 4 Timed exams (worth 40 pts. each). Prof. is very fast with responses, and office hour are flexible if you book in advance. Grad assistants and tutors visits are necessary to do well in this class.
Her online FIN 303 was very difficult. I took it at CSUN over summer session. The amount of work was not unreasonable; the problem was in how WileyPlus takes answers. If any answer was even 0.0001 off from what the website wanted, you got a zero. I discourage anyone that isn't excellent in their calculations from taking this class online.
She's a really great teacher. Definitely cares about her students. She doesn't brush off students and has a good sense of humor. I think she's just a little bit misunderstood. The classes she teaches in general are hard subjects, but I don't think she makes it overly hard or overly easy. Shes very helpful and does a good job helping you if you ask
Many think she is a tough professor because the exam involves a lot of calculations. I love it. 95% of them are from the examples in the class and the ppts contain most of the required messages and solutions. You just need to really know how to do the calculation. You don' even need to understand it sometimes. If you want to learn, take it.
If you understand how to do the calculations and understand how to use your financial calculator you should be able to get a B. Quizzes can be a pain and time consuming but it'll help your grade and help you understand how to do the calculations. The Final is cumulative and tough. But she curves
Amazing teacher. Soft spoken so sit near her to pay attention. So knowledgeable, you can tell when you go to her office hours. If you take your time on the homework you should be above average in all the tests. Make sure you know how all the formulas are used you'll have them during the test. It's all about knowing what to plug in. Lectures frm ppt
She did care about students and explain everything well in the class. There are only two exams which are very easy if you attend every class. She is a very nice lady, I learned a lot from this class.
Dr. Jin is one of the best finance teachers on campus. She cares about her students and helps them out in anyway she can. Midterms are super easy as long as you do the homework and practice the problems assigned. The projects she assigns are easy and gives you a chance to learn excel and Bloomberg Terminal.
Do all the aplia, attend class, take time to practice the homework and practice problems and you will do fine. 2 midterms and a final, 1 group report, and BMC as extra credit.
She isn't the best teacher. I would recommend for any student to take FIN303 online instead. I took a hybrid course, which wasn't really because of a lack of any real recorded lecturing. If you can teach yourself, take this course. Midterm is difficult but if you study you'll do alright. Final is cumulative.
I love Jin so much! She is one of the Finance teachers at CSUN. Her class is very challenging but it is so worth it. You will learn a lot! I recommend to do her projects" by yourself if you can because you will truly learn much more. I hope she is around for a while.
She's really not a great professor, lectures consist of summarizing the powerpoint presentation and weekly online homework(which is much more difficult than what she teacher in class) Attendance is mandatory. The material is challenging but she really doesn't do a good job and explaining it, you're on your own for homework and test, dont recommend
Yanbo is a nice professor but her lectures are not informative nor helpful. If you want to do well and really learn the material you will be doing so yourself. She requires attendance and there are 2 midterms, a final, project, and weekly online assignments. I would recommend a different professor, one that actually teaches the material.
she lacks and needs to improve the way she solves the problems step by step when she gives out a sample questions. it seems like alot of people get confused about that. The test are trickey and challenging don't expect a easy grade, she goes fast when lecturing but the lecture is recored, She doesn't cover all material make sure to read all chapter
Her exams are beyond difficult and be prepared to teach yourself the material. She offers extra credit but it requires you to complete homework assignments on chapters not covered in her lectures. Also, those points cannot be applied to your quizzes or exams. Most of the class isn't doing that great and I'm seriously hoping she'll curve.
Fixed income was by far the most difficult class I've taken. In spite of this, Professor Jin is amazing. She is very passionate about bonds (yea...i know right?) and that makes her lectures somewhat interesting. Grade based on 3 exams, 3 group excel projects. The course is extremely difficult with lots of calculations but you will learn a lot.
10 Homeworks (37.5%), 10 Quizzes (25%), 3 Exams (37.5%), 10 Chapters. Offers extra credit up to 12.5% (not too hard). Nothing in this class should be hard as it is an online class. Professor doesn't do much -- you are taught from a software/textbook. She doesn't do her own lectures so it is just you and software. Should be easy, iykyk.
I heard this class was supposed to be hard, lol. Due to Covid and the class now being fully online, it's an easy A. The prof also offers non mandatory lectures and office hours, seems to care about the students and takes the time to. Dear future students when covid is over: take the class fully online. Peace
Definitely not a numbers person. The textbook is interesting (case studies on companies) and was happy to work on the questions each week. The hardest part is group projects. Very sweet and learned a lot from her! I finally know a bit about fin.
Very easy for a finance class (could be because of the pandemic). She is very caring and wants her students to learn. Lectures are well detailed and she offers extra learning sessions if you dont grasp the subject right away. Offered lots of extra credit.
She's a solid professor and makes finance easy to understand. The grade is based on weekly easy homework assignments, 3 group projects, and attendance. If you have questions about the projects, she can help out tremendously - she responds to emails fast.
Took this class for Summer. Prof. Jin did an excellent job teaching this class in such a condensed structure (7 weeks). You can tell that she really cares about the students. She made HW help docs/videos, and did a great job explaining Excel work. Make sure to read all chapters and take notes on equations. An A requires 95%, so do the extra credit!
I viewed her recorded lecture sometimes and didn't attend class and passed the class by using all resources available. She seemed caring and tried her absolute best to help you understand the material. Absolute gem! She knows how to break everything down and lots of opportunities to receive 100% on homework etc.
Her hybrid class is very organized, you have a weekly lecture and homework / quiz due on Wiley the following week. Her homework recordings are super helpful so just watch those and you can get an A on the assignments. Two exams (a midterm and a final). She was super nice though and offered lots of extra credit after our class bombed the midterm.
The professor seems wholesome, but her teaching style leaves you confused more than anything. There isn't any student-teacher interaction in class. I advise you to choose a different professor. You will only learn formulas for the sake of passing tests. Prepare to spend countless hours on homework and quizzes only to offer minimal help on exams.
Dr. Yanbo is an amazing professor, she will give you all the necessary material for pass the class. She recorded videos for homework and quizzes solutions so take notes. It is a heavy class but if you commit to the class for sure you will get a good grade
She was great. Not mandatory attendance and she puts tutorials on how to solve the problems both via calculator and excel. She gives extra credit and genuinely cares about her students. Almost all of your grade is made up of the scores from midterm and final.
As a person shes kind and caring but there is too much content in each exam. It becomes super overwhelming to study it all. She provides a sheet with the formulas but like I said its too much for one exam. You have to memorize too many concepts. With the amount of stuff we learn she should at least split it into 3 exams a semester instead of 2.
Professor Jin is very nice and considerate of student life-giving various opportunities for success. Lecture heavy with explanations of formulas so pay attention and attend class.
Best professor that I have taken so far as she makes the lectures real easy and has step by step videos for homework. She also gave snacks towards the end of the semester. She gave a helpful study guide and practice exam.
Such a nice professor. She cares for her students. This is a really easy class as long as you pay attention. Just don't be a slacker. I see people struggling because they don't show up or pay attention. Tests aren't hard. Overall an amazing professor and would recommend her to everyone. Two test, two quizzes, and homework.
She is a fantastic professor. She gives amazing lectures, which makes the material more understandable.
The class is well laid out. There is homework for every chapter. Do the homework you will pass the test. There is plenty of help for the homework. I would take again.
If you plan on taking FIN 303, Jin is the professor to take. In person class, but streams the lectures on zoom (recorded) Grading is simple: homework (40%) - E.C (2%) - Quiz 1 & 2 (10% each) - Midterm (20%) - (Final 20%). Other professors did not give homework and the entire grade was based on 3 exams and 2 quizzes. YOU GET WHAT YOU PUT IN!
Take my advice, she is actually a really good professor and gives you opportunities to improve your grade. I barely went to class and managed to pass with a C. If you put in a little extra effort you will pass the class with at least a C. I know other professors are super hard and don't even offer HW or EC opportunities. Take her class!
Super well organized grading criteria. She gives you plenty opportunity to get a good grade. I really liked her and you can tell she knows her stuff. Class is not mandatory, but going to class is so much better for your grade. This a class I advise not to skip even if it is not your major. You really have to try to fail this class in my opinion.
Professor Jin will make you fall asleep in her lectures. She's kind and cares for her students, however goes very fast in class and makes many students confused. She tends to go off topic. HOWEVER, she has so many resources on her canvas page. She explains homework, gives study guides, and sets you up to pass. You just need to put the time in.
Take her if this class is required for you. I found her lectures boring, so I stopped going. I always studied last minutes for the 2 exams we had, got low scores, and still ended up passing. She has a great grading system better than any other finance professor you'll take. Do well in the homework's and quizzes and you will pass.
Sweet prof, but her lectures are practically useless. You could easily get by from just doing the homework and learning on your own. She provides a formula sheet which makes a WORLD of a difference. I was struggling in this class, but managed to get a B on the midterm. Study the HW and practice quizzes and youll be fine on the exams. HW e/o week.
this professor genuinely wants to set you up for failure. i took this class based on the positive reviews and the only *slightly* good thing i can say about her is that
This was a teach yourself course. Lectures are her reading off the power points she posts, little to no elaboration on the material. Felt like an online course with in person exams. 50% of the grade was homework which you get 3 cracks at, rest was 2 exams and quizzes. If you can learn online and test in person she's alright.
I loved this professor! I am an accounting major so this subject relates very similarly to this making this an easier subject for me to understand. Her lectures are pretty straight foreward to PowerPoints but if you ever have ANY questions she is always helpful during her office hours. Homework matters a lot in her class but is exactly like tests
She was a great professor with informational lectures provided for you. The class material itself is not the easiest in the world but its up to you, to put in the time and study the information. She was very caring and was able to answer any confusion.
If you're good at math/accounting, then you should be fine. She's super sweet, but lectures can get boring. Practice the homework since it helps on the test, and if you are stuck on anything reach out to her. A lot of the class is learning how to use the financial calculator, so mastering that would be great. She also has lots of funny stories.
She's really funny for sure. Lectures can be boring but make sure to lock in and take notes. Exams can be difficult. To get an A in the class, make sure to do the homework (like actually do it & not chatgpt it). I don't like finance but I am gonna miss her for sure cuz she's funny.
She is a sweet professor easy to reach out for help. The lectures can get stale with all the finance stuff, but she likes to add in humor to save the day. Puts all the lecture notes on Canvas but make sure to study for the exams because they can be challenging, and they make up half your grade. Gives FIN tips for life in class as well :)
Finance genius like most of the csun department. Caring, awesome lectures, awesome office hours. Had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Basically without Professor Jin I would have never gotten down CAPM and WACC. Loved her style!
She was okay, but she doesn't care if you don't understand. She rushes through material and repeats explanations the same way, even if it's not clear. She doesn't get that math can be done in different ways. She's better suited for upper-division classes. Wouldn't take another class with her again.
Shoutout Prof Jin. Wish she taught upper div. Attendance not mandatory. Tons of E.C. Accessible after and outside of class if needed. HW is straight forward. Take the time to actually learn and not just get by. It'll be a whole lot easier if you do it that way. Those writing negative reviews ignore them bc they are the ones who didnt put in effort.
Professor Yanbo is one of a kind—organized, professional, and truly cares about her students. Her slides align well with the textbook, and she's always available to help. Exams are fair, all multiple choice with a formula sheet. Read ahead and ask questions—she's a hidden gem at CSUN. Please please please Take her if you can, you wont regret it.
Homework 40%, 2 tests 50%, 2 quizzes 10%. The tests and quizzes come from the Hw. Do them properly and review it b4 the tests and you'll do just fine. She's a nice professor. Attendance is not required but don't expect to get an A if you never show up. She offers some extra credit which is easy to get!
The material in FIN 303 is tough. She may come off a bit strict in class, but she genuinely cares about her students and takes the time to help, I realized this after visiting her office hours. Don't miss any extra credit opportunities, as they can really help your grade. And don't just chat through the hw, do it yourself or the exams will be rough
Professor was great. The material can be a bit difficult but she teaches it well and offers EC. The grading criteria is clear and she doesn't take attendance. Def recommend.
She is a caring professor. She is not bad at all, its more the material can be a little tough but she explains it pretty well in my opinion. The homework can be long but she posts reviews that basically solve most problems. Tests are a little tough, but she gives a formula sheet so its not that bad. She is alright. I would take her again
Not a bad professor make sure you learn all the hw. There is1 hw a week and quizs before each exam. There are 2 exams, 1 midterm and 1 final. Beware she failed someone from the course because they took a pic of the final after they finished.
