This teacher is so cool that he didn't even make us buy the book !I got an A without the book.Most of the time he talks about his private life. But he likes to have a good time. if you can speak clearly you'll get a good grade. Just follow his rules.

He spends most of the time talking about various issues he thinks we should know about. This can be both good and bad -- after awhile it can start to wear on you. However, it is a failr easy and informative class.

He talks a lot about everything but the class. He is great and funny. Do the reading and the test are easy.

His Teaching Plan: Build an outline, follow it, see book for tips, get over your fear of public speaking, make your speech. EZ going class. Listening to hundreds of speeches makes him knowledgeable on everything. Hot in a Tobias Beecher sort of way.

Is a great teacher but he does engage in unprofessional behavior with his students off campus and makes it harder for students who are doing their work to be graded fairly.

He never takes roll in his class. He talks about different things that will surprise you. He talks a lot but you will notice that you really didn't do anything but take a couple of notes. He is a nice guy, and he will gladly help you on your assignment. He is a great teacher and funny sometimes.

I had this teacher I was very disappointed, I always thought I was good at speeches but then I realized I wasn't veyr good at all. I am retaking the class at UCLA since I got in. and to one of the previous comments, I to have noticed he does engage in unprofessional behavior. And NO way is hot!

He uses inappropriate language, comments, examples. He doesn't require books, uses a lot of humor to teach speech, plain good English, I could not get his sense of humor, many times I thought I am losing my time. He likes girls and does not hide it. In conclusion, he is very contemporary.

Easy class you still need to read the book, on Tue. class was like social time and Thu. was quiz day he is serious with quizzes about 20? straight from the book, no final he will average your quiz scores for your grade. No speeches given in this class.

Mr. Duncan is one of the best valley professors. Very easy, friendly and hot. Ok there is no speeches in this class only two group presentations and veryyyyyy easy. Every week there is a quiz straight from the book. Overall, he is great. The only class that i actually liked this semester. Good luck!

Mr. Duncan is an excellent instructor. Even if you're not a happy person, he will still make you laugh. You will also learn alot about groups in this class. He is laid back and will answer all of your questions. I recommend him for sure.

Great professor, easy grader, makes speech fun, drops the f bomb alot, knowledgeable - but DON'T take him at valley. Only teaches a Sat. morning class and its the worst class ever. If not for him being great, I would have dropped. I also don't like how we are really behind. Oh well. Easiest A I ever got, don't bother buying the textbook.

This is the perfect speech class for anyone who is dreading taking it. There were no speeches at all! You just get in small groups and talk. The class meets for like an hour. Read the chapters for a small, 20 question quiz every week. That's basically it. Can't fail

Cool guy, great teacher. This class was probably one of the best classes i ever had. This was a great class an easy A! I didnt even buy the book and I got an A. Tests are simple easy and there are no suprises. Sometimes he even lets you do the test in groups! And one project that is so fun! TAKE HIM!

Great teacher, went in hating the thought of getting up in front of class, haven't had to do that since high school, (88'). If you want to take a speech class, he is the teacher you should take. He really makes the class fun. He has the highest student retention I have seen in all my years going to college, he must do something right.

This Professor is the best teacher by far ave been in college!!!he gives you about 5-6 speeches to do in front of the class and thats IT NO HW!! no classwork just pay attention to him and you'll be fine i got an easy "A". very helpfull!! This professor is one of my absolute favorites! He's fun, makes the subject even more fun, is compassionate and caring - did I mention fun??? If you are planning to transfer and need Speech 101, take it with Prof. Duncan. He makes all his students feel very good about their work and you can see the transformation by the end of the semester! Bravo!

I took Speech 151, he is awesome! I love how he doesn't lecture! We just show up, he tells us what needs to be done (i.e. journals, quiz) that's it! It's an evening class, I recommend taking evening classes! Read your book, show up to every class, do well on your quizzes and you get an A! I had a blast! the gameboard project is memorable!

Read the chapters and do the online quizzes to pass the quizzes. I don't know what exactly you were supposed to learn from Speech 151 but I got a B. The class was such a breeze.

You write a journal, read the book and do a group project. Test are multiple choice and true or false. Pretty easy, just show up and meet with group outside of class every so often.

Great guy. He loves what he teaches. He expects you to read the book and learn terms. He teaches you skills for communicating with other people. Class should be easy. Do all the projects and quizzes and you will do well. He lets you make up quizzes. If you miss any. I highly recommend him for Speech 151.

Yance is the real deal. Real good guy and a fair, well structured, positive teacher. He did make us read the book. We did have frequent quizzes. It was all laid out clearly for us though. He made us do a group project which was actually fun and it forced us to communicate with each other. He was a good guy too. Makes a great pizza too!

Professor Duncan is one of the coolest professors at Valley. I took him for 101 and 105 and both classes were awesome. he's very opinionated and he talks about interesting topics in class. in 105 we watch some good films, write about 2 papers and have a 6 essay final. not bad at all. i definitely recommend him

Professor Duncan is by far the greatest teacher/professor that I have ever had. He keeps the class from being boring with interesting topics that somehow ties in with the lesson. He absolutely despises students that don't show up so just be in class consistently and you'll be able to get a very good grade. Plus, the material is super easy!

Words can't adequately describe this class unfortunately. Just take it if you want a relaxing class. It's almost a joke how easy it is. If you take comm 105, just make sure you have a 'basic' understanding of the reading that 104 does not have.

Amazing professor. Probably th best professor I've ever had. At first he may seem intimidating, but he's a very nice man. He is HILARIOUS and very, very knowledgable. Yancy has a very clear grading scale, if you follow his format for speeches, you should be fine. Saw a log of students improve as the class went on. Take him, you won't regret it!

Seems gruff at first, but is very understanding and supportive to nervous speakers; 1gave constructive feedback that really helped me. He's very clear on what he expects. Lectures are hilarious, too. Hes a brilliant observer with a wide range of knowledge. If you want solid advice on how to craft a speech and use critical thinking, take his class.

Never have I had a professor quite like Duncan Yancy. His way of teaching is incredibly abstract, but not in the way that should scare anyone away. As I did his class i saw substantial improvement from all of the students and for me my nervousness in public speaking seemed to go away completely. His class is fun, interesting and helpful. Professor makes class go by so fast! Very street smart and book smart. Takes in consideration every student; their thoughts and opinions. If you are unclear with a topic he will go over it as many times as you need. I highly recommend to take his class!

Prof. Duncan changed my life! He is one of those guys you will find once in a generation. Intelligent, funny, caring, and in touch with his students. Knows what he is talking about. First day of class told us not to buy the book. "You don't read about public speaking. You practice it" His class also helped me become a much better academic writer.

NO HOMEWORK, NO NEED FOR BOOKS, & NO NEED TO STUDY. You will need to do research & rehearse on the 3 topics he lets you choose for each speech assignment which is ONLY 3. Seriously what professor does that?! ONLY DUNCAN BC HE IS AWESOME. This guys speaks truth & is a walking dictionary/google. He knows about everything & has interesting opinions.

This guy is as real as it gets. He has so much energy & passion about what he says. Gives excellent feedback on speeches & is a great motivator. Only assigns 3 speeches, follow his structure, do good research & practice your speeches & you will PASS regardless if you're good at speaking in front of people or not. Just do the speeches!!!

Yancy Duncan is not your average professor. He is honest, sharp, unapologetic, and a real joy to have as an instructor. You will do well on speeches as long as you pay attention and are not afraid to ask for clarification if need be. Sometimes, I stayed after class and he went above and beyond to help make my speeches better. He is fantastic!

If your going to school to actually learn, you couldn't find a better teacher. He is hands down the most intriguing and intelligent man I have ever met, I absolutely look forward to class every day. He is someone who will not only help you master this subject, but help you consider your views about life and who you are a person.

Professor Duncan was absolutely amazing! He explains thoroughly on how to give a proper speech. Extremely knowledgeable and will tell you stories of many interesting topics/people. Very generous when it comes to grading and gives great feedback on how to improve! Easy A

if you are bad at public speaking, or shy at all, you will not get an A in the course, full stop. otherwise he is VERY clear on what he wants from you in your (3-4) speeches. Most of the class is him rambling on about stuff. we learned about art, wilt chamberlain, and the jail system in the United States. Oh, and I guess some speech too xD.

Professor Duncan is quick-witted and ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS, like hurt-your-stomach funny. He's reputed to be a lenient grader and an all-round awesome dude, so his sections fill up FAST (both 101/104). I don't think it's possible to get a 'C' or lower in this class unless you forget to do a speech, or completely stop attending class for some reason.

I loved this class. Professor Duncan is extremely funny and this made me feel comfortable talking in front of the class. He is a bit strict with grading but as long as you keep your words organized you'll be okay. I'd recommend this class if you want to feel laid back and not freak out about public speaking.

Professor Yancy wants you to pass his class so he will motivate you and help you out. Work is not hard! I Do the reading and write about it and you get the points assigned for that assignment. Only thing is he take a long time grading the work . I have an A but haven't officially gotten a grade. Talk to him if you get behind and he will workwithu

Took during spring online, no live zoom. assignments are not very long at all but it will be necessary in order to participate in the class discussions. He will work with you if you fall behind which shouldn't really happen because he gives a great amount of time to turn in a work before the next assignment.

COM 104 was the first class I took coming out of high school and it was honestly really fun and worth it. As long as you are on top of the daily check-ins and readings, you will do great. Prof. Yancy is really nice and seems to care a lot about his students. I would recommend this class even just for fun!

Prof Duncan was super chill. All you have to do in this class is have a daily check-in and participate in weekly discussions after finishing reading the textbook. You will get full credit if you follow his rubric. It was an easy A, so if you want to get a high grade with the least effort, consider taking his class!
