The class is really lax. You have weekly summaries of chapters but she doesn't really grade them. There are also 3 papers and 3 quizzes and a presentation. She tells you exactly what questions to answer for the papers and the review for the quiz is thorough. Overal she is a nice lady but you may not be thoroughly enlightened.
She's a really nice person, but kind of a hard grader. The material, especially toward the end of the class, gets fairly difficult and hard to understand, and she doesn't really cater to that. I find myself finding quiz/test answers straight out of the book, instead of lecture or in-class material.
Dr. Liston is unorganized, and her notes are very hard to follow.
She us useless! She tries to teach every aspect of Hinduism in one semester and it's impossible! You have no idea what is going on half of the time and I don't think she does either. She has you read from the book every week and post a summary on blackboard, you are assigned a group and must present once from the other book and another presentation
If you want EASY A, Take her. EASIEST Class ever. 2 GROUP Presentations, 2 papers & 3 Exams/quizzes. 100 pts in total. LOT OF EXTRA CREDITS. Take Class, take notes and GET A. That's how easy it is. It will BOOST your GPA. BUT the Hinduism you learn here will be from WESTERN viewpoint not HINDU or INDIAN viewpoint. ;)
She is a nice lady, but her notes on the board are all over the place. Says to study one thing for the quiz and questions are on another. Hard to follow. Tries to cram too much info in. Hinduism is a tough subject that would take more than one semester to grasp but she tries anyway. 2 papers 3-4 quizzes, weekly readings/summaries on blackboard
Liston is a very nice woman and willing to help students. Class notes are somewhat disorganized but she does get through the information and is willing to answer any question. Reading summaries weekly are tedious but help retain information for 3 "quizzes." She is clear about expectations as far as the one paper but less with tests. Good prof.
At first she seems really spazzy and eccentric. But you'll come to love her--she actually knows what she's talking about and is a really easy grader. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THE READINGS IF YOU COME TO CLASS! Get her to go off on a tangent and she's really interesting. Take her!
EASY A! Just show up and pretend to be listening. The material is actually difficult to understand, but you don't need a strong understanding of the material because she grades so easily. If you get a B in this class its because you didn't turn in work.
Liston is an interesting woman, and you can tell she really knows her stuff. Class can be a little dull sometimes, but it's not that big of a deal. Two papers, and three quizzes (no official midterm or final), and weekly note taking posted on blackboard. Pretty easy class, definitely worth taking.
She tries her best with Hinduism but it's not a subject that can be explained in one semester. The tests are really simple as she tells you exactly what to study. There is an opportunity for extra credit (you have to make a presentation about anything relating to india that you find interesting - it's super fun) Recommended!
She is the most amazing woman ever! My favorite Loyola professor so far. Her lectures are hilarious & really entertaining without her trying too hard to pull jokes or anything - she's just naturally funny and she really knows her material! She's always calm & happy but also very energetic. We did really cool meditations once a week. Take her class!
This class was really easy, pay attention and take notes. The 3 quizzes are very easy, only need to know the basic ideas. Reading summaries due every monday, and have 2 group presentations. A paper at the end of the semester which she grades very easy. Easy theo core class to take
She's very easy but her lectures don't follow a consistant pattern. I found them very boring though she's a sweetheart. Not very helpful in the paper/quiz area. Rarely responds to emails and didn't offer much help on my paper (8-10 pages). Don't take the once a week class, try MWF.
This is a good way to get your Theo core out of the way. The material is interesting I didn't know anything about hinduism before I took this class but the lectures are very slow. There are three quizzes, two five page papers, and weekly summaries.
Summaries due on blackboard every week. Book with bogged down with detail and boring. 2 6-8pg papers that are pretty easy (one research, one analyze). 3 "quizzes" that are essay answer. 2 presentations that do not take too much time to prepare. Overall easy class. Lectures were interesting, professor is nice and knowledgeable. Would take again.
Buddhism with her is very easy. She is a very good professor who makes Buddhism easy to understand. Assignments include weekly summaries on blackboard, an 8-10 pg paper (really easy, don't worry), some group projects, and 3 short exams (quizzes really). She is approachable, friendly, and happy to help.
Liston is awesome. She's passionate about the subject and is amazing at lecturing. Half of class was watching classmate presentations, which was annoying and unhelpful. But she herself is really helpful and great. Super easy A and interesting!
Intro to Buddhism. Easy grader! Class was interesting for the most part. She doesn't go too in depth on her exams. Take notes and understand the basic concepts. 1 paper and easy group projects!
The first day she divides everyone into groups and the groups all take turn teaching the class. This method made it very difficult to learn in the class because a lot of the information is too complicated for students to teach. She knows what she is talking about, I just wish she had taken a more active teaching role in the class.
If you want a fairly easy A, take her. But don't expect to really learn much. Instead of giving her own lectures, she divides the class up and has each group teach a section of the material. Easy A, but boring and mindless.
Fairly easy class. Summaries due every week, 2 short 1 long group presentation, 2 papers, 3 tests. That's it. As long as you keep up to date on the work, an A is very attainable. Class was also interesting until groups presented then everyone zones out. She's very quick at responding through email and is very flexible if you have issues.
She divides the class into groups and has them teach while she sits in the front row. Interesting material. If the groups are good you'll learn. Group schedule is always off so some material gets longer focus unintentionally. 3 quizzes, 2 papers, 2 presentations, 10 weekly forum questions & attendance. Great for freshman, bad for seniors. Easy A
The comments on here don't do her justice. Professor Liston is a wonderful teacher. Her class was more interesting than I expected and she's easy going. The class work is not difficult and the class discussions are very interesting. She intervenes in group presentations if a difficult topic arises. She also has a lot of info to share. Take her!! :)
EASY A. if you want an a, take liston. literally the easiest professor ever. you can do absolutely nothing and still get an a - she is the best. take her.
Take her. This is literally the easiest A you will ever get in your college career. Two powerpoints, 3 quizzes, and 3 essays, but she's the easiest grader in the world.
Really nice lady, easy grader on the essays, and the class was an easy A. Take her for a theo core, or any class for that matter.
Sweet lady, easy grader, and the class is a guaranteed A. Three short answer quizzes including final, two 8 page papers, one house of worship essay, sign in attendance, two group class presentations. She doesn't lecture, class is taught by dividing into groups and presenting assigned chapters. Overall, minimal effort is required to do well.
Sweet lady but I absolutely hate this class. She doesn't teach at all, basically every week a group presented two chapters. Super long papers that take forever to write. Easy A if you show up to class but DON'T TAKE!! Choose a better teacher that wont make you write unnecessary papers and one that actually teaches.
EASY PEASY! she's awesome just take her. 3 quizzes tells u everything u need to know. and 3 papers as long as u write them she'll give u the points. LOVE HER
Liston is an angle of the theology. Class is 100 points with 20 from group projects and 30 from 3 quizzes, 30 from 3 papers which can be lengthy and the rest from participation. Quizzes are very easy and she pretty much tells you what the questions are beforehand. Overall easy A would recommend
Such a sweet lady! She knows that everyone only takes this class for CORE credit and she WANTS to give you an A! Take this class! SOO easy, 3 quizzes, 3 papers. 2 group presentations. THATS IT.
Really easy class and great teacher. Basically the students teach the class, each week a group of about 4-5 students present on a chapter in the book and discussions come from the presentation. 3 tests, super easy. Discussions could get heated, but that is what college is about. Take this class if you want an easy A to boost your GPA!
I would like to start off by saying Dr. Liston is a very nice person. The workload is easy throughout the semester until the essays come along. One essay was 9-15 pages long. The class was extremely boring and uninteresting however there were some heated discussions. She is a very Easy Grader and The class is an Easy A regardless of the essays.
Literally the easiest class I've ever taken. Yarina is so sweet and she really wants you to do well in the class. There are a few long papers but they're a piece of cake. I recommend this class to any of my friends who need to the their theology classes.
Basically as long as you come you will get an A. There are a couple writings, but they are just checked off that you do them, and one outside assignment, but it's really easy.
Great person. Super chill and the work isn't that hard. Knowledgeable but if you want to learn something from the class you will have that missing element.
Really nice and understanding. Class is relaxing and educational.
Liston was a great professor! By far one of the most laid back classes ever. As long as you show up to class its an easy A. TAKE HER!!
Take this class. Easy A and she's really knowledgeable. She lets you study what you're interested in and is flexible with schedules.
Such a great professor, very chill. You have to do work, but it is an easy A if you do the assignments.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Very hard class for a core requirement. Attendance is mandatory and tests are hard. If you want to save your GPA, do not take her.
Very nice professor. Information is mainly lecture based, as even though you have to read the textbook for summary assignments, you just need to write stuff from lecture on the test to get an A. An easy grader on assignments and presentations. Make sure you don't miss a lecture though, as they aren't posted anywhere. Would definitely recommend!
She's annoying, don't take Hinduism with her. She made us all get the new textbook and then kept using the old one, so our weekly summaries of the book were never the same topic as what we were learning in class. Blue book tests, only 4 questions. She's also not accommodating of university excused absences, so don't take if you're an athlete
such a nice professor. class is really easy as long as you study for the 3 quizzes we have other than that she will give you 100s on everything else we do
She takes attendance. A sweet lady who wants her students to pass. 2 group projects, a paper and 3 quizzes. The final is a quiz. Good to take for a Theo Core if it is something you are not super passionate about.
The nicest professor. Her class is very straightforward. 3 presentation, 3 quizzes, weekly summaries of the readings, extra credit pop quizzes. VERY easy grader. Show up to class, take notes, and it'll be an easy A. Perfect, easy class to take for core. It's literally impossible not to get an A and the people that didn't, it's on them, not on her.
Liston is great. She's straightforward and funny. Impossible to get a bad grade. Good prof.
This class is only worth 100 points so if you miss a couple of points you're screwed. And the grading scale sucks too. Its based on presentations from students who dont know what theyre talking about and the articles we have to read and understand are extremely difficult. Its a lot of work for a core class I hate this class.
Liston doesn't actually teach, instead students are given a section of the textbook and have to present. It's incredibly boring. the 5 tests are blue books, based on a section of the book. in addition to the presentation, you write a 6 page paper. She's a fair grader. course is extremely easy so long as you actually read the book
she doesn't actually teach but has students present articles for the entire year, there are 5 tests and you have to do well on all of them because the whole class is out of 100 points total, nice lady who is more than willing to help outside of class if you need help understanding certain articles but terrible class structure and so boring
Pretty easy class, she takes attendance so can't miss more than 2 and her lectures are important for the tests. 3 tests that are 5 short answer, kind of hard in my opinion because the class is very disorganized and her lectures are hard to follow. Not hard but she isn't very structured she just talks about random things in Hinduism. SO NICE THOUGH!
Professor Liston's class is extremely interesting without being too much work. There are summaries of the readings due weekly, three group presentations, a paper, and 3 quizzes (15 points each). As long as you go to class and take notes over the lecture, it is an easy A. She's a pretty lenient grader and makes the class interesting.
She never actually teaches, the whole semester is listening to other students talk about the textbook readings they have no understanding of. You have to do every reading which tend to be somewhat long and even doing that she still grades harshly on the five 5-essay quizzes which account for 60pts of the total 100pts for the class. DON'T TAKE!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She lectures the entire time with out any powerpoints to follow. You have to read 25 pages and write 1-2 pages every week. The readings are on words that aren't even English. You have 3 presentations, one being 20 minutes. Three tests, two pop quizzes, and a 8 page analysis paper. She's not nice about it if you fail any.
One of the worst core classes Ive taken at Loyola. Please do you and your GPA a favor and do not take this class. Way too much work for a core class and she isnt helpful at all (even if you reach out).
Good professor to take for your tier 2 theo class. Weekly reading summaries (just skim and do bullet points), 3 group presentations, 1 paper (8 pages), 3 quizzes (last quiz is the final), takes attendance. Easy grader and very chill professor. She does lecture a lot (quizzes based solely on lecture) so pay attention, but overall good.
Liston was such a sweet professor. Although it is hard to pay attention in class because its mostly based on student presentations, her class isn't hard if you pay attention and do your work. I would definitely recommend her for a theology core class.
I don't understand what she expects us to do in her quizzes. They are short unclear questions and timed. And she expects you to write about specific points. However, group projects are easy and she really relies on small group discussions. She is extremely boring and half of the time she's just talking to herself!
Professor Silton is not the worse but also not really engaging. Her lectures are so boring if your taking this as a requirement and have no interest in theology. She a fast grader which I loved about her but also very unclear about how she's grading exam because they are short answers only. She is always available after class seek help if you need.
She is a very sweet lady and you can tell she's passionate about the work she does. Lectures can be a bit boring but as long as you pay semi-attention, read the book, and take good notes, there is no reason you shouldn't pass with a A. Class is graded on a midterm, final, quiz, group project, and participation on weekly forums. Overall easy class.
Every class is a long lecture then small group discussions. Weekly forum posts, group presentations, and one big paper. She lists broad topics for exams and exam is a few question prompts, write paragraph answers in a blue book. Easy grader but definitely not my favorite class structure. Pretty boring but I think most every theology class is.
Overall she's a very nice and chill teacher. She grades the group project and exams (just short answer essays) pretty easily. Forum posts and attendance are required which can be annoying sometimes but class is easy.
Professor Liston is extremely nice and cares for her students. Her class consists of three group presentations, three papers (which you get a cheat sheet for), and a final paper. The exams are super easy and she is a easy grader. Highly recommend!
Grades presentations and exams very easily, though lectures may be boring
Tests are blue book essay questions. two tests, one group presentation, one solo presentation, and a final paper. It is an EL so you do have to go to a religious site and that is what the solo presentation and the final paper are on. Lectures are a little old fashion, with no PowerPoint, just chalk and board.
she's easy, but her lectures are boring. show up for presentations and you'll get a 100. final paper is super easy. take lecture notes, you'll be fine for exams w/o reading textbook. super easy if you show up. discussions were interesting! easy choice, but a really boring class but minimal work too. overall a good choice for tier 2 theology.
Prof. Liston was a chill professor and this was an easy Engaged Learning class. Your grade is made up of two blue book essay exams and short, easy presentations. One was group work and the other was a final presentation on your Engaged Learning site. Exams aren't worth much and she grades easy overall. Take this for an easy going prof. and class.
Prof Liston is so sweet and her lectures are fun to listen to, but be sure to take notes. On Wednesdays, we do a 10-15 min meditation which can range from silent introspection to guided meditation to unique activities. The class had a very informal vibe that made it easy for us to connect with her and with each other. She's also a very easy grader.
Prof. Liston is a kind lady, but she is not a good teacher. The class consists of three exams, three group presentations, and a final paper. The class is extremely boring and lecture-heavy. There is no real structure besides bullet points on the board. Students said meditation was a part of the class, but we never did one.
I would highly recommend this class for Engaged Learning AND Tier 2 Theo. It's pretty easy as long as you show up, take notes, and do the assignments on time. She's a pretty easy grader too and the material is interesting.
Yarina clearly enjoys Buddhism but doesn't teach it very well. The class lectures have very little structure and lectures are incredibly repetitive. She also stems from her own thoughts a lot which makes it very difficult to believe historical true events. Very easy class if you need one, but if truly interested in Buddhism, find another course.
Overall a great option for tier 2 theology. Really nice grader, just make sure you're going to class and taking good notes. We were allowed to bring a notecard to exams (it was allowed to be typed, so I just printed my lecture notes out very small). Very knowledgeable and excited to engage with students on the material. Definitely recommend!
Ez class. Out of 100 points, and tbh the only points u need to worry ab r the 2 exams, both r 15 points each, but u get a cheat sheet. Btw if you're taking THEO299E for Engaged Learning, she'll imply that u NEED to present at the Research Symposium to get E.L credit, BUT U DO NOT!! She'll let u just submit ur pres to the "CELTS Ecommons" if u ask
The actual content of Buddhism was pretty complex, but prof liston does a really great job at explaining everything to make sure you understand. She grades very kindly so you can focus on understanding the core concepts of Buddhism. The only way I got an A was going to every lecture, otherwise it's very difficult to understand everything.
Did not read as I paid attention in class & took notes & did very well in everything. VERY easy grader. If u are taking it as engaged learning, you do not have to present at the symposium as you can do online submission to Celtics but ask her. Useful to team up with classmates or take w/ friends to split up the work for each religion & study.
Just take notes during lectures and ask questions! Prof Liston is so kind and engaging :)
she is a very sweet person, but her class is pretty boring. the lectures kind of drag on, but the material is usually decently interesting. it is lowkey a lot for work for a core class, a group project, 2 sets of research over 4 books each, and a cultivation of that research as the final + 3 exams. grades easy though, good for core class.
Aweomse class! 2 group presentations, 3 exams, mostly lecture. You can tell she loves what she is teaching and such a sweet woman as well. Created a good environment where we talk about religion and what it does. Decent amount of reading that's a little difficult, however easier to follow along with the lectures. 6 missed classes total.
she's honestly rlly easy and just grades assignments based on completion! i would still take her even if you don't like presentations bc she is an easy grader. lectures are boring but hey if it's a rlly easy class, i would take it. can use 1 pg typed notes for exams! she knows it's a core class so she's chill and understandable.
Although you do have assigned reading, I only used the readings for when it came to the group projects, so no need to stress too much about it if there are group projects involved with the readings too.
I liked Dr. Liston. She gives clear guidelines for assignments. Easy grader on tests. She is super nice and a great choice for Tier 2 theology.
This class was easy but she teaches a lot of information that you is never brought up again/not tested on so often times I questioned myself why I was taking notes. If you show up and pay attention you will get an A. Meditations were cool and she is pretty funny too.
she is fantastic and the sweetest person. her lectures are so so so clear which is especially important cause you cover so many religions in this class. you do need to go to a religious cite as part of this class so that is extra work, but it is very interesting. 2 very easy exams and you know the questions beforehand and get a cheat sheet
Once a week 4:15-6:45PM world religion class is surprisingly torture! She has little to no idea of how to use sakai, never sends email reminders about assignments/exams, does not provide slides for info gone over in class, has multiple group activities where your grade is dependent on others actually communicating and doing work.
For a core class this is way too much. She's a nice person, but this class is too much work. You have 3 exams, 3 presentations, weekly discussions, and a participation grade. If you don't show up on Friday's your grade will suffer even if you did that week's discussion post...Lectures are boring and she doesn't have slides to review so yeah.
She's a very sweet and caring lady! Her lectures are easy to follow as she writes everything she's going to talk about on the board. The textbook was about $50, but I made do without using it, as she always talked about chapters, and it was easy to just contribute real-life examples to questions. 3 exams, a group presentation, and a field trip!
Professor Liston is like the most easy teacher for this kind of class. You can meet with her once a week, show up, and thats most of your grade. She is super simple, and if you don't put any effort in participation you can fail it. But I feel failing her class is impossible. Her assignments are easy, and she is passionate about what she teaches!
