Very nice lady. She's very lenient and almost a pushover. She really cares about the class and tries to make it as easy/flexible as possible. She has an accent and gets her words jumbled up, so cant be confusing at times to follow her. Be patient with her, she wants the whole class to understand before she moves on. Never lets you out early.

Not a push over by any means. She doesn't use the book, you ask her to go over another example and she says no...so why ask if it's clear if it isn't? She does, however, drop the lowest test...so that's helpful and the lowest quiz. Just study on your own.

Being horrible at math- I was dreading taking this course. Ended up getting an A. Professor Balkis goes over every concept several times to make sure everyone understands. Her tests are always based on the problems she goes over in class or problems from HW. Attendance is mandatory, and necessary to do well.

Her class is easy. She gives worksheet as homework so the book is not really required. However, she gets anal if you do not have a copy of the table at the back of the book (chisquare,z-score,etc.) So make sure you make copies of the tables. Her tests are easy and the questions are very similar to her worksheets. Easy A as long as you do the work.

She is a fair grader and on here, average grade is an A but don't be fooled. You won't get an easy A. I think the average for my class was like a D+. She lets you use formulas on tests. The final exam is a cumulative of ALL of the contents you covered in that semester.

I took her this Summer. Not knowing anything about Stats, she really made it easy and I got an A. She makes the concept easy. TAKE NOTES. AS SHE'S DOING SOME EXAMPLES, WRITE IT DOWN TOO. IT HELPS YOU. Gives a lot of examples so you'd understand. Has a bit of an accent but don't let that mislead you. Tests are easy if you listen. Overall, loved it.

Professor Balks is a great instructor. Although she is a tough grader she makes sure she teaches you. Took me years to overcome my fear of taking Stats 50. If I passed with a B, everyone else should as long as you study. If you need help, she will help you. Do her hw, study and you will pass! I recommend her. Knowledge is power!

Take her! Students give her a hard time because she has a thick accent, but really, it should not hinder your learning. Balkis is an amazing professor, and she makes sure you understand the material. I felt so smart in that class, simply because I got the lesson. I took for summer, so it was crammed and stressful at times, but she made it easy.

Professor Balks is a very good. When I first took the class I was concerned because her accent is very thick and she came off a little harsh, but if she can see that you are trying she is really understanding/helpful. She is very clear about what material is going to be on test. Overall, high recommend especially if you struggle with math.

SHE IS SO AWESOME. She seems strict at first but do not let that fool you. She genuinely cares if she feels you are willing to work hard. In order to pass with a B or higher you will have to study examples from her notes because it is very similar to the stuff on her tests. She goes over everything and has rules she expects you to follow. G luck :)

Honestly a great teacher! She will explain everything you need to know to pass tests. Yeah, you will have to put in hard work,but she gives you all the tools to do well! Take her if you are a student who needs motivation.

I have taken this professor twice; once with Math 007 and now Math 005A. Lectures are somewhat fast, but take good notes and you'll do fine. If you do not understand something, she will answer any question. Do ALL the homework, it will help on tests. She drops the lowest two quizzes. All in all a great prof. :)

She is a nice professor but only to those who take the class seriously. She is very strict in tardiness. The door will be closed 15 mins after the class starts. Attendance is checked twice (at the beginning + after break). She is very patient in giving lecture and willing to explain the problem until you understand it. Recommended.

She is a great math teacher. She really wants to help you understand the material. The tests are everything that she teaches in class and chapter. It is straight out of her notes. She does allow calculators in the class and during tests. She drops one low quiz grade at the end.

She gives a lot of chances for you to ask questions in class and puts herself out there to help people. Tests and quizzes are based off of notes and hw no surprises whatsoever. This was calculus, higher level math, must put in HOURS AND EFFORT to do well in class. Good lecture and grading to do well. Big component is TEXTBOOK problems. IMO to do well in exams must have adequate preparation by doing TEXTBOOK problems. Only realized this later in intercession, however, still managed to pass.

She is a good teacher. She is very helpful. If you don't understand the materials, she will explain it until you do. She is strict on attendance, especially the first 2 weeks. If you do the practice problems she gives and the ones on the book, it will be almost similar to what she gives on the test.

She can appear very strict but once she identifies you are a serious student, she is very willing to help. she explains topics in details and gives several examples. she gives more than 4 tests per semester, about 1 test per 1 or 2 chapters. this can be stressful but makes it easier for you to concentrate on that chapter and get good grades.

(Summer)Studied two weeks before class. It's fast paced and algebra intensive so brush up. Professor explains in detail but sometimes can get caught up and get behind schedule so try to stay ahead cuz she'll cram things in last-minute. Shes very caring, even if it sounds like she's mad when she talks. Exams look like text probs. Good luck.

Winter 2021 -To be honest, I just ended up 2x speed recorded zooms or skimming through the notes near the end. Great professor and very willing to answer questions given the right timing. Little HW. Exams and quizzes are not too difficult. Personally, the only fault would be her slight disorganization and slightly hard to read writing in notes.

I second the 5B review made 02/18/21 100%. The messy writing and unorganized work can create confusion, especially if you watch the recordings because sometimes she forgets to records small bits. Lecture attendance not mandatory except test dates of course. Overall solid class, moderate difficulty, and nice professor.

Professor Balkis is great professor. She is always willing to answer all my questions. She tried her best to help student understand the lectures. She is approachable, and she always consider the appropriate due date so the students can have enough time to do it.

If you do the work, this class is almost easy. Online Quizzes . Homework every weekly. If you keep on top of it, you will be fine. 5 exams, when you ask her questions, she explains it and tries to help you.

Very caring & wants you to succeed. Calc is tough, and it is up to you to put in the effort. She is always available during office hours and will even have Zoom tutoring if you request for one before a test. She doesn't assign much homework, and if she does, it is graded as a take home quiz. Exams are straight forward, everything is in the notes.

Ms.Balkis is a very passionate math teacher. She takes the extra time to explain certain concepts if you don't understand them, and is always willing to help. I really luckily ended up with an A in her class and sometimes she makes little mistakes during lecture, but other than that she is a wonderful student who likes participation!

I found her lectures to be quite boring and dragging but they were informative. No frills on the test, if you study the hw you will be well prepared for the exam, she doesn't try to trick you. She also rounded me pretty significantly which I really appreciated, Overall a pretty easy class if you put in some effort, definitely recommend.

I took the support class and she really cares if you pass the class as long as you make the effort to ask her for help besides that she tries to make the lectures easy to understand.

Balkis is a great professor. She shows genuine enthusiasm for her class and really tries to help you as much as she can as long as you put in effort. She may be a tough exam grader but she adds a few points to offset it a little. Be warned, calc 2 is hard and having to be up at 7AM doesn't make it any easier, but study hard and you should be fine.

Everything that we go over in notes is on the test. Only one time in chapter 6 she didn't go over uniform prob. in depth but it's a big part of the test. She makes the notes for you and you just have to fill in the blanks and she drops 2 quizzes. Read the textbook while she goes over the notes because her explanations might be slow or confusing.

Recommend to print chapter notes before going to class for lecture. She's very strict when it comes to talking & using phones during class. Make sure to ask questions during lecture because she moves fast but is still willing to help. You'll be lost if you miss class. Long as you study your chapter notes & worksheets enough you will pass the class.
