Very Good Teacher. Go to leactures, u will learn a lot. take notes. has an accent. does not use powerpoint. gets class involved. Class is hard like all other actg. classes. very hard.
He is very passionate about his teachings, however the class is ridiculously hard.

prof teaches as if EVERYONE is an accounting major, so his tests & quizes are HARD, no joke, if you try, you can get a C no prob, but he is very knowledgable about acc & is a nice guy- if it weren't for this class....
one of the worst teachers i ever had. and to top it off, at the end of the year he changed the grade that he declared would be an A.
Test are hard and you have to read the chapters before coming to class to understand the lectures.
he's a good teacher. very clear and concise. tests are not too hard, as long as you go to class every day.
Very knowledgable...If you do the homework problems or at least problems in the workbook and attend the lectures everyday, you're almost guarenteed to pass...Maybe even get a B or higher...
Class is fairly challenging. Professor knows his material although his exams are fairly though. Attend lectures and take notes and you should do fine.
this professor knows his stuff too bad he cant communicate it to his students. I couldn't understand anything from this professor, that is what made my experience with him horrible, dont take this professor,LISTEN TO ME.
The class could be challenging. Attended lectures thats what has helped me, i didn't bother with HW and reading. Although I would recommend that you read the chapters before class therefore you will understand the lectures better. I did very well in the class.
A hard class made harder by an incompetent Salama. The man could have taught the concepts much better. Salama goes off in many directions leading many students to confusion. I don’t care if he is a little mean, but he really should communicate better. My semester was hellish due to his class. Avoid him for any class!
Doesn’t prepare students well. Salama doesn’t tell what will be the curve until the end of the semester. Tests are hard, quizzes are very easy though. I did better when I focused more on the book and daydreamed in his class. Why is that man so mean?
This man is EVIL. I failed this class because of him. Half the time you can't understand a word he was saying. And he told me that if I got a B on my final, he would pass me. Well, i got a B and he didn't pass me. When I aksed him why in email, he didn't respond, and when I asked him in person he said he didn't remember saying anything to me.
So he is a little tough and can be a hard ass sometimes, but honestly, I learned a lot in his class. I like his teaching style too. He lectures and writes on the board, which facilitates good note taking. He's loud and serious, but the occassional wise cra
Pretty hard teacher. He is funny, but he always gives pop quiz and hw which you are expected to have for every class(try soffer. shes cool). I thought he was boring(when he wasnt making jokes) and hard to understand.
The professor is a real trickster. The quizzes and HWs are 25% of the grade yet they're all unannounced. His exams are easy IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT. Exams are multiple choice but there are still a lot of small calcualtion problems in there.
this class is hard and Professor makes his tests extra hard.
Salama was a very difficult prof. He expects a lot from his students. He makes it seem like this is the only class you are taking. He doesn't write big enough, and he doesn't like to use the entire chalk board. Very deiificult professor. Exams suck.
If possible, do NOT take this professor. The material is difficult, and he is not helpful at all.
I had no problems with him. If you do homework and attend classes - it's not hard at all. His examples are clear, homework is helpful. Need more help - go to T.A. He is not bad at all, just do what's requered and there should be no problem. Tests are OK, quizzes are pretty easy.
Salama is by far the hardest teacher that I have had at UIC. His examples/sample exams do not reflect anything on the exams. The exams are very hard. I would avoid taking his class if at all possible.
I think he is a great professor...always ready to help students improve in class any way that he can! Collects homework and gives quizzes, but they are meant to bring your grade up!
Took this class knowing he would be hard. His whole structure is lame. Tests are ok if you study, and you must study. Hell, You must study every class to be ready for the pop quizes, WHICH are also lame. collects HW when he wants. that brought my grade down. not so great
He is the worst teacher i have ever had in my entire life!!! Do not take him at all!!!
Hi is the best porfessor at UIC for any Accouting class. It is better to take Mangerial or cost acct with with than others.
His class is hard, and he just highlights several main points in the class. Yet, the tests cover a lot. So you have to read the book very carefully. Tricky question will be on the tests. Pop quizes are not that hard. The S/G will help you. Don't hope the workshops will help you a lot, and you have to study hard by yourself!!!
He is a good professor. Examples which he gives in class are very clear. However, he only goes over some sections, but the exam will cover every sections of textbook. You really need to read the text carefully and know the material very well.
Collects the HW on the random basis, gives the pop quizes (sometimes really hard). The explanations are not bad, book is pretty clear, except for a couple of chapters.
Have to do work from book to get good grades. Very hard class, very hard accent
I think he is the worst teacher I ever met in UIC. Can't get understand of his accent. And I felt very suprise and can not accept when he said "I am the King of Class"....
I think he was pretty funny I def enjoyed the class.."and here I am, thank you very much!!"
Took 111 with him and found that difficult but 316 was a lot different. He was very clear. Exams were fair. Pop Quzzies but they were really easy.
well, he's funny but I didnt like this class at all, maybe because tax is just freakin hard, lectures are kind of boring, gives pop quizes, tax projects suck but try to get them right - its a lot of points and exams are hard. overall he's OK
This guy is rude and horrible. He goes over the most randomest stuff it is so hard to follow along. He judges you if you make a mistake so its pointless to even try. Try going for someone else.
Awesoe professor! Strongly recommend... you have to work hard but i learned alot.
First of all, He is rude. He will make fun of your mistakes, so its pointless to even try. His quizzes are not fair because he will give you his simple examples then trick you on his pop quizes.
He's funny. He knows his stuffs but he talks too fast. Reading the book and doing homeworks are mandatory. The class is not too easy nor too hard. It is around average.
"Here I am, here it is."
OK... Let me tell you, he's friendly, but he doesn't teach accounting, he teaches math. Not very helpful when asking questions, he's one of those your regret asking. you don't understand him he doesn't understand you.
I had salama for actg 316 over the summer and it was one of the easiest clases ive taken at uic you still have to work in order to get a good grade but the class is very straight forward and there are no suprises unlike 315 with leventhal i strongly recomend taking 316 over the summer with him
This Professor has some humor and knows how to teach. The examples he gives in class are way better than one from the textbook.
He is increadible RUDE and MEAN MEAN.
His exams are too much!! It's my fist time to have to finish 10 calculations and prepare journal entries within 2 hours. If you want an A. You must be careful from the first exam and quizzes. Even very small mistake will leads to a disaster.
Very hard class. Extremely Dry Reading. You better keep up with homework and reading in order to get atleast a B average. Exams are really hard and tricky usually have 20 MC and 4 Problems only have 1 hr to finish the Exams Good Luck.
Very hard exams and quizzes and very rude professor. You only have 1 hr for long hard exams
Be ready from the first class!!!This professor is not easy at all!!! Tough and torching!!
Avoid this guy, lost my respect. His approach to teaching is like math 101 - throw you bunch of numbers but won't explain to you behind the meaning. Worst instructor I had in accounting courses at UIC.
This guy is absurd. He teaches you half the chapter and tells you to learn the other half at home on your own. He tells you to memorize specific concepts for the exams and then none of them are on there.
He is kind a little to animated in his classes and comes off threatening to kids not used to him.His teaching is really boring and makes no sense, but the book is not that terrible (minus say 1 or 2 chaps) and you can really learn a lot from it and his problems in class. M.C is straight out book n problems outta class. Not that bad just really boring
Salama is a great professor. The quizzes are really easy. The examples done in class are really helpful. The exams can be kind of tuff and long. Overall I learned a lot from this class and the book is very easy to understand.
Quizzes are super easy. I got 100% on all of them. I recommend buying the study guide of the book though because the study guides relate exactly to everthing on the quizzes and exams. Good luck
Quizzes are easy, pretty much free 60 points. He somewhat tells you what is on the exams when it comes to the problems, just practice the problems he does in class and hmwk. Multiple choice questions are difficult but if you read the book you should be fine. I enjoyed his class and actually feel like I learned a lot too.
Pretty old school in terms of attendance and phone usage. Enthusiastic and his examples are clear. The handouts for this class are important. The homework is not graded, but doing it makes the exams seem relatively easy. Read the book. Got to class. Really great teacher. Taking him again this semester.
Intermediate II was hard no doubt, but Salama made the class interesting. He really shows his passion. My overall opinion is that he is an awesome professor. Funny and gets the class engaged. Seems intimidating but he is really nice. All I can recommend is read the book many times and do the homework by hand and online.
Nice professor. Quizzes are fairly easy, just review the in class problems. Exams are MC and short answer. He tells you what to expect in the short answer, so just study those corresponding problems. Read the book and do the hw.
He is literally crazy. He yells the whole lecture at you and has an extremely and annoying accent. Tests are on Friday nights from 4-7:30 pm with no make-ups. He is mean, rude, and does make fun of you if you don't know the answer and tried to answer. Also if you are even 2 min. late to class you are not allowed in. DO NOT TAKE HIM
3 exams. online quizzes and hw are easy. exams are straight from online practice questions. pretty straightforward class just do the hw and quizzes on time. first exam had an average of 59
Not a hard class. He is a really good teacher. Only half of the class would come to lecture, hence bad grades. If you need help, just go to his office hours, not mean at all. Tests were not too hard, just practice the hw and learnsmart. Quizzes was just a hw problem, pretty easy. Some hw problems were hard. Tests are only 2 hrs long, not 3.5 hrs.
He really gets excited to teach and makes sure we understand the material. Exams are hard but not impossible if you study. Got high B's on tests and after the curve ended up with an A in the class. Read the chapters and do hw/quizes and you will do fine, many ppl didnt read the chapters at all,Im pretty sure thats why the 1st test avg was so low
Easy A
good luck. exams are easy
Create a facebook page for the entire class to join--saved my life during homework assignments. Exams are long, you should know the information inside and out. Literally start studying at least a week before the exam; otherwise, you will not finish. He will not let you in class if you are late, and he will throw you out if you are not listening to the lecture.
I've taken 2 courses with him, this one and Actg 316, and he's great! He goes over problems in detail so if you pay attention in class, you're halfway prepared for the exams already. He's also very helpful when you approach him with questions. Awesome teacher and probably my favorite at UIC.
It's hard. I withdrew from the class. He has accent that I had a hard time understanding. He screams all the time. His tests are long and hard. You have to study hard in order to do well.
Awesome professor who teaches accounting!
So I took his class around a year ago...I spent ten weeks then dropped the class. Basically i wasnt doing that bad (75% on the first midterm) but he didnt allow anyone to come in late he even told me to ''vanish'' once.
Did not curve for our class. Expect to read and complete practice problems as exams cover both quantitative and qualitative information. Exams were a hit or miss, some were easy and some were fairly difficult. Homework is easy, quizzes are difficult, so form a study group. Professor loves accounting, he also loves to yell so prepare accordingly.
He is a funny guy and really gets to know his students. The class setup was straight forward: 3 test and 5 quizzes (1 quiz is dropped). I would recommend taking him over other teachers because he makes it more interesting. I also had him for 211 and it was taught in the same setup and style.
Exams are hard. You have to study. He is a nice professor. Some people might get wrong impression from him on the first day. He's funny. He's always happy.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are clear-cut and he does a ton of practice problems in class. Exams are tough, but do-able if you attend class regularly. I recommend him.
He's cares about his students. Tests are hard. If you talk to him he'll go over problems and help you out. Be ready to put in work.
I got an A, but this class was tough. If you want an A you need to know the material very well. Go to lectures and listen. READ THE CHAPTERS, and practice homework problems. Understand all the concepts 100%. During test time, you will need to apply your knowledge to problems you have never seen before. But if you study a lot, you can get an A.
Really nice professor. Very approachable outside of class. The tests were very tough! This class will take up most of your time if you want an A as reading all the chapters is mandatory. If you attend every lecture and do well on the HW/Quizzes, you should be fine.
As an accounting major, Salama is a great teacher in comparison to other UIC accounting professors I have taken. If you are not an accounting major, he is difficult to appreciate, but he is a good teacher. He cares for his students, but if you want help you have to go to office hours, he is informative and understanding.
What he teaches in class is mostly what's on exams. Downside is that he covers a lot of concepts once and never again. No review sessions or heads up on what's to be on the exam. VERY stingy with partial credit, which is bad when you have single problems worth over 30 points. Has a "love it or hate it" personality. No extra credit, minimal curve.
Tests are Fridays from 5pm-7pm. Would not accommodate me for observing a religious holiday and told me to drop the class. Yells a lot. Class is hard. Very strict and rude.
In short, if you are taking 316 with him, its going to be alright, but don't take 484 with him.
I took Salama for ACTG 316, 326 and 484. He's a great professor and a very smart man. Read your book and take good notes on his class examples. He gave pop quizzes but you know when they are and the question is usually from the homework or in class example. Strict but reasonable! Got an A in all three classes
He is very nice and friendly and he teaches very good, BUT his exams are very HARD and most of his exams material not covered during lectures. so you need to read each chapter and understand it very good to get A grade. he curves a lot for Cs and Bs and small curve for A grade. he is also hard grader and no extra credit at all .try to avoid him
One of the Best Dr. I ever had.
He is my favorite teacher at UIC. He LOVEs his job and care about the students. He wants you to read, study and learn from his class. His lecture is the best. If you really want to learn accounting, take his. Prepare to put a lot of efforts on his classes.
I writing to let you guys know that if you plan to take CPA exam, take Pro. Salamas intermediating accounting 2. He is the best! Hes lecture is even better than Beckers lecture. Everything he covers in class was on my FAR exam. I spent least time intermediate accounting 2 when reviewing for CPA exam because he prepared me so well for the exam!
He is a great professor if you're an accounting major, HOWEVER, if you're not then this class is ridiculous. He doesn't give you a format on your exams so its a lot to memorize. If you want to take him for summer, DONT!
This prof is horrid. I don't know how he is still teaching. He is incredibly rude and a terrible teacher. He humiliates students that ask simple questions and will call students "lady" and yell at people. His exams are incredibly difficult because he doesn't actually teach and homework assignments take forever. He needs to retire.
His exams were extremely hard. his first exam close 60% of the class failed even after he did a 10% bump to it. I hated how his homework hard nothing to do with his exams or quizzes was. HE uses different methods from the textbook and that makes it confusing for most people. the homework is way too long and time-consuming. Hates him. DO NOT TAKE
I have never complained about a professor in my entire life but do yourself a favor and do not take this man for ACTG 316. If you are an accounting major, wait for the spring semester this guy is by far the worst ever. Sucks at teaching and I learned nothing. I took extensive notes and never missed a day but I learned 0. Tests are HARRRRRDDDDDDDDD!
This guy gets a bad wrap because he is hard but I got C's on all 3 of my exams and ended up with a B in the class. He is by far the BEST actg professor at UIC and knows his stuff. Quizzes are based off class notes and if you HAVE to attend his class. Exams are held at night from 6-8pm. Based prof from a different time. Don't underestimate him tho
Guys, don't take him for any ACTG class. This man gave up on teaching during covid and also stopped replying to the emails from students. He posts a pre-made power point by the publisher and that's all. This is a important ACTG class and needs a good professor at UIC. He treats it like a JOKE!
Horrible professor for online classes. DO NOT take his class if you want to learn. He does not teach this class and just expects students to learn on their own from the textbook. Takes 0 efforts to upload any material and you might as well just buy the textbook instead of paying 10 times that amount to take this class. Just awful.
Salama does not teach, nor responds to emails. He has been the most challenging professor to communicate with. I have emailed him around 5 times and he replied to only one of my emails. Do not skip a quiz, homework, or exam because he won't let you take it and you will get a 0. Prepare to teach yourself all the material...
He is okay when he actually teach the class in person, however, he does not teach at all during his online class!!! (covid-period). My dude just tell his students to buy third-party course (which cost a lot) and this is it.
He doesn't teach much. If you want to learn something, I suggest you don't take him but if you are looking for an easy A, Salama is your guy. The class is interesting if you put effort to teach yourself of course.
Do yourself a favor and NEVER take this professor. I've taken him for my intro to financial accounting before and he does not properly teach you the basics. He just scribbles on the board and expects you to know the rest because you're an accounting major. He'll also cold call people in class at times so be prepared.
I have taken Salama for 210, 316, and 417. For 417 online, he doesn't teach, however the assignments and exams are EASY, but you don't learn unless you put the effort in. In person, he is brutal. If you want to earn a good grade, but not learn much, take his online class. He never replies to my emails and is STRICT but deadlines and exams.
If you value your GPA, and your mental sanity, do NOT take him. Absolutely the worst professor ever. Barely teaches, just writes the basics (very poorly) on the board. Your exam prep? Just the 1 or 2 examples he goes over in class. Homework is completely different material, and is different than his tests. Again, DO NOT TAKE. Ever. Seriously.
Absolutely the worse prof I have ever met. I will have no doubt rate him zero if possible. Drowsy, out-of-date method in delivering class materials, not engaging at all. For exams, neither reflecting the the materials taught nor adjusting the difficulty by lass performance. The Whole class is miserable and he still think he done greatly.
I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school because i wanted to die before making it to his class.
Not bad but not great. I'd give him a B. He does shouts a lot, but not in anger, that's just how he talks. He means well though and he does care.
I dropped the class the day that I met him, enough said.
Don't take this professor, he's my living embodiment of my nightmares coming to haunt me and if you don't read, you'll be absolutely lost and he's very, very, very fast pace so get ready to waste your weekend on information the he's too lazy to explain.
Very very fast paced very unclear and hard to keep up and understand what's going on. We aren't allowed to bring a well written notecard on exams. extremely overwhelming would never chose this class again. very low test scores and impatient. does not provide study guides.
Very fast paced class, yet he still manages to skip over important topics and expects us to teach it to ourselves. If you're not ahead in the textbook reading you fall behind. He's very impatient with poor class performance, yet doesn't slow down or even let us review our exam's mistakes in class.
GPA killer
I just graduated. This is an honest opinion: students rely heavily on Chegg and Quizlet. Accounting is not easy specially 417 is meant to wipe out those who are not about accounting. Salama is and old school guy. He knows Accounting for sure, but he won't beg you to study (which is totally ok). If you are cpa candidate, take him he will help you!
Let me tell you, I was actually excited for this class and then after enduring this class with him, I am just happy to say I survived. This was one of the worst classes I have ever taken as an accounting major, like he will make you want to quit because the class is insanely hard. Don't take this class if you value your sanity, I warn you!!
