She is super nice and down to earth. Basically there is an assigned reading(if you spark note you should be good)every week, then a journal, and a short quiz which you can use your journal on. There is also one analytical paper for the midterm and one research paper for the final.She is very helpful and understanding.HIGHLY recommended

She is a really sweet teacher. Class is really easy to pass as long as you actually read the stories assigned. Her quizzes are impossible to pass if you just read sparknotes haha. Only two essays due- the midterm and final. If you don't do well on the midterm, she gives you a second chance to redo it and get a better grade!

I took this class last semester in 2011. She is the BEST English teacher that you will fine in America. Period. So, if you want to learn, have interesting conversations and class sessions, and receive an A from the coolest teacher around, she's your woman. I took her class back in 2010. She is a great teacher and will help you in anyway she can. You have to do a couple of essays and present them. She is really nice and an easy class to pass as long as you do the essays, because they are most of your grade.

This was my first time taking summer school for college and I must say, she made it really enjoyable. Prof. Bailey-Kirby is great! She is so understand and down to earth, and Creative Writing is a blast. Just don't constantly hound her about grades, or she'll double the class's work the week before finals. If you communicate with her, speak up in class, and try your best, you'll do well.

She is a great professor! Journals are sometime hard because you have to read a lot. Exams are essays (mid-term and final), and you can use your notes and journals to write.

One of the best professors I've had. You're able to use your imagination and put your creative juices into work! One short story and one poem for this class. In between them are exercises to help you with your writing. You'll discover that you can be a writer if you take this class. I highly recommend it.

Professor Bailey-Kirby is nothing short of amazing. She's incredibly approachable & helpful. She understands that people have lives outside her class, but she isn't a pushover. Don't take her if you just want an easy A. She does make you read, write, & work. If you need help of any kind, she's more than willing to do that & I highly recommend her.

This class is NOT an easy A, but it's definitely possible to get one. You have to go to class, and do the work, but it's worth it. You will learn a lot. Her guidelines are very clear. It can be a high workload but it's manageable. Three papers throughout the semester, and they build off each other. Do your work and ask questions and you'll be fine.

I hate her but she made me a better writer. Through her, I discovered the writing center. I did well on all papers, except for the stupid quizzes, which I failed miserably. She gave me an A-, which I'm happy, but I still hate her.

I loved her! This professor's knowledgeable & passionate about literature and writing, so I learned a lot from her. I took her for eng 102 & creative writing last year and eng 243 this spring before graduating in May. She's by far the best at CSN & I wish that she taught at UNLV.

Yelena's class is not easy. There is a substantial amount of homework and in class quizzes, although if you put in the time and effort you will get a good grade. Just do yourself a favor, if you are concerned about something, ask her! She is more than helpful and she wants you to succeed.

Taking publishing a lit mag class with this professor, and it's my favorite since she's hilarious and even inspired my creativity. I've enjoyed writing a short story so far and the assigned reading like Bullet in the Brain and The Things They Carried were great and new to me. I plan to take her again and would recommend her to anyone.

Getting an A in this class is super easy, provided you read the syllabus, ask questions, participate, and be involved. This course is not something you can just sleep through. Shes honestly a really tough teacher, grades on attendance, also if you miss 4 classes or more you are subject to an F in class. I don't understand why ANY English teacher would do this because one can still do all the work and miss a few classes. Her grading on papers is really tough, doesn't give any credit for effort. THIS IS THE TEACHER TO TAKE. I have taken English 102 two times previously, and each teacher was unclear and just had no room for mistakes. Mrs. Bailey-Kirby is seriously awesome. The main homework essay is a single essay expanded over three different essays. You just expand upon your original work, starting from three pages to nearly 12!

I took her ENG 102 class online and loved it. There are 3 papers and each one is based on the previous, so you really get a chance to improve your writing and ideas. There are peer grading assignments for each paper which I thought was really neat. Also before each paper she assigns "practice sequences" so you really understand. Would take again!

Professor Yelena Bailey-Kirby is a wonderful teacher and she truly cares. I learned so much in her online class and with her teaching style. Her course was organized and she gave excellent examples on assignments. I never had any problems getting in touch with her and she always made time to meet with me when I needed help. I recommend her 100%.

She's an amazing teacher with a hilarious blunt personality. She's genuinely out to help her students grow as a writers. If you're overly sensitive, arrogant, and/or stuck in your ways as a writer, I wouldn't suggest taking this course. You must be open to new ways of doings thing. Critiques are done with care as well. This course is time consuming

Excellent professor. She's everything a professor should be. Yelena doesn't treat you like another face in the crowd. She treats you like an individual. If you want an extensive course, this is the professor for you. However, my only gripe is that she issues a lot of busywork (understandably to keep the lazy students from cutting corners.)

First off, Prof. Bailey-Kirby lets you write about ANYTHING you want in this class as long as you give her a heads up. This is nice as many writing teachers don't do this. She encourages participation in class, and gives you a better grade if you participate regularly. Only real downside is the intense homework load in the first half of the course.

The coolest english teacher i had so far. Offers extra credit. Just an easy class as long as you write a good essay and listen to her advice. She really likes her students. If i needed another english teacher i would take her.

Prof. Bailey-Kirby is an excellent teacher. She really wants you to do a great job in class. She will give you some advice or suggestions if you are ever stuck with writing. Not only that, the class is fairly easy as long as you keep up with the assignments. There are three papers, that will eventually add up together and a presentation at the end.

She's picked great stories and has them available for free. You don't have to buy anything. She goes over every story in class in detail, but you must participate. There are 2 stories a week and even for a slow reader, it's totally doable. I recommend downloading audio books for some of the longer stories if you have a hard time. She's funny too :)

Honestly, this is the most organized class I have ever had! she gives feedback right away when you try to email her. I took this class online for Eng 102 and I would say this class was easy. She is really nice and kind, and also really understands her students and tries the best of her ability to help and get a clear concept of an assignment.

At first, I didn't think she was the best. Now, though, I really like her. As long as you do a general skim of the chapter you will pass the quiz and you get 2 tries. She gives papers but they are all on the same topic and basically, the same paper just add a bit more each paper. Super simple. Easy grader thus far, just do the work. 10/10 :)

Professor Bailey-Kirby is the best professor I've had at CSN. She expertly mentors your writing until it reaches the next level. She is always willing to meet outside of class and goes above and beyond to help students in whatever aspect of writing they need. She is the advisor to the Creative Writing Club and is super inspirational to writers!

She's one of the few teachers who actually cares about her students. Her class is really not that hard; read the (VERY) short stories, answer the questions, and participate in class and you literally cannot fail her class. If you get a B or, God forbid a C, you're doing something wrong. She is a great person and I've never learned more from anyone.

She will make you work for your grade. A lot of the assisngments were repetative but it helps make the essays easy to write. No midterm or final, 4 quizes, 4 essays, 9 hw assignments and a final presentation for the final. She is willing to help those that are willing to put in the work. She assigns two very good (super short) stories to read each week. And you have exactly a week to read them and just answer a couple questions on. and a quiz. Participate and show up get an A.

Professor Bailey-Kirby is one of the best instructors in the English department. The grade you receive in this class is dependent on how much effort you put forth. Show up to class on time, read the material, and do the work. That's all she asks of her students. She even offers extra credit. She cares about her students, and wants them to pass.

This professors is extremely professional and will guide you through the work if you needed. She is very kind and will display a kind of comedy into her lectures. Here you will learn something, how to implement MLA, working together with peers on assignments. She also uses Canvas for practice activities and quizzes all based from the textbook.

Easy A, as long as you do the assignments. Read the stories, read her powerpoint (answers to the quiz are here), and do the discussions. Also, she doesn't have you buy any books. Would recommend her to anyone, but sign up early bc her class fills up.

SHE IS AMAZING. She's very accessible outside of class, gives extremely helpful feedback, makes writing a 10 page paper a walk in the park, and truly cares about her students. The only downside is that the homework assignments can get pretty lengthy and time-consuming, but I'd hands down do it all over again to have her as a professor.

Easy class that if you do the work, you should be able to get an A. Two weekly readings with repsonses to discussion questions. A quiz on the readings. Midterm is two 500 word essays on the stories read. Final essays are on stories read during second half of semester. Final project was to create a Powerpoint on favorite story and author.

Initially, I was appalled with the amount of work and reading given. Throughout the semester, I realized it was for our own good. There are new readings every week with quizzes and a discussion post. Her online class was pretty easy and straight forward. Each week we would read a piece of literature and take a short quiz on it, then write answers for the certain discussion question she assigns us. There is a mid-term paper, research paper, Final presentation, Final essay exam. No timed exam. Easy A as long as you do your work.

Prof Bailey-Kirby teaches every step of the writing process, gives you tons of help and resources, and is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. This is not an &quot;easy&quot; class, however. You will have to spend a considerable amount of time working towards the two essays and many discussions you will write BUT YOU WILL COME OUT AN AMAZING WRITER!

She is a very nice professor. A discussion and quiz due every week. You read a handful of short stories and two books. Only 2 essays, and a final presentation. She is very understanding, and her grading is straightforward and clear. Just pay attention to when things are due and you'll be fine.

For my final she acknowledged not just my work, but me as a student, and I have always kept an eye out for her for any English class I take.

Discussions every week lots of reading. Weekly quizzes 3 essays not a bad class just have to study and read a lot. I received a B+ and did about 3-4 hours a week towards the class

Professor Yelena is a professor that really cares about your success in the classroom. In the beginning weeks of the semester, she goes over grammar rules and MLA to make sure everyone is on the same page. She guides you with the essay and presentation project. Also, she has office hours that are easily accessible and you can easily contact her.

Very kind and understanding! The assignments we did were always able to be done in class and turned in right away. She sets reminders for everyone almost every assignment. Always has great feedback online and in person. She is also very fast about responding outside of class.Would definitely recommend!

She's AMAZING! She cares about how students are doing and willing to work with you if you give her a heads up, and her assignments are very straightforward. As long as you get the gist of each reading, the assignments are a breeze. Make sure you are ready to read different novels, as we covered a lot of them in class.

We used her free textbook. We worked on one paper all semester which was our final. Overall the workload is easy and she is a good professor.

I initially couldn't get into her class due to the limit but waited and attended lectures until a request to join went through, and it was completely worth it. Dr. Bailey is a literal saint and is very understanding of rough situations. I received several extensions with full credit while struggling. Each book has 1 quiz + 1 discussion post. There are 2 essays, 1 presentation. The majority of written work will receive a B at the lowest for completion. A rare professor with manageable work and a heart.

This class was great with this professor. She gave clear directions for all assignments and was empathetic to student's situations. She gave the class multiple extensions on big assignments. We read classics like Don Quixote and The Odyssey which she provides free links for the text and audiobooks. Lots of reading though, so don't procrastinate.

My favorite professor ever, she encouraged and helped me win the Meaningful Writing Experience Scholarship with her words of wisdom. The course is not hard as long as you keep up with the pace of the coursework and she is VERY understanding as long as you properly communicate. Self-presentation was nerve-wracking but other than that, very fun class

There is a midterm essay, research paper, final presentation, and final exam essay. She gives helpful feedback on essays. Her class moves fast throughout the semester, we finished 2 weeks early. But it wasn't stressful at all. Because of this, Prof. Kirby was able to push the due date for some of these essays which was a lifesaver!

What a delight! I took her Contemporary Literature class and it was great! At first, she assigns 1-3 short stories to read with a quiz and discussion board each week, and it's the same after the midterm, but instead, you read 2 novels (which, I'll say, are a lot to read). She also gives amazing feedback and cares a lot about her students.

This Professor is awesome! all of the assignments were not "easy" but easily given to understand what was necessary to complete the assignments. Essays were clear cut and given a good outline on how to complete them in a successful manner, very kind grader with excellent feedback that wasn't harsh at all but purely criticism to improve my writing.

Prof. Yelena's ENG 102 class was a great experience, she's the best. She teaches the material clearly and truly wants her students to understand and succeed. She's funny, very approachable, responds to emails quickly, gives helpful feedback, and will help you if you're stuck. She also stays after class to provide extra help and is a fair grader.

Professor Yelena's class was super duper easy. She really cares and wants to see her students succeed. As long as you do the work, everyone can get an A in this class.

Professor Bailey-Kirby was very helpful and responsive when needed. She was also so kind to extend due dates of multiple assignments. So much reading so do not fall behind! All of the homework had examples for her students so it was easy to know what was expected.
