Dude. She drove me nuts. 20% of the test questions weren't covered in the lectures or in the reading. Her notes were unorganized(i.e. #1, C, #3, A). Don't get me wrong, she's a nice lady, but if you need organization to do well in a class, look elsewhere.
This class is an easy A. She gives you study guides and the book is easy to read. Buy the study guide that goes with the book. It helped me alot..it has sample quizzes, summaries, etc. She's good teacher, but goes off track a lot!
She's okay. Her notes are unorganize and she has an accent. Her writings are scribbles like a doctor's handwriting. you will do well if you read the material and the lecture notes and know what the term means.
Hate her. Enough said.
Awesome teacher, very progressive, open minded and encourages student input and brings in community speakers on various social issues such as Gay & Lesbian Civil rights and health issues such as HIV/AIDS. Very kind, generous and motivating Professor--truly a beautiful human being.
Wonderful teacher---knows how to make the class interesting and still teach the material. Highly recommend!!
very easy class she is very fun and makes things interesting...lots of guest speaker...she makes you bring food if you're late to class but thats the fun of it because u spend time eating for 15 minutes of class and if you're phone ring u give her $1 but really she is FUN and its EASY!
Great teacher. Very animated and likes to laugh a lot. Heavy accent, kind of hard to understand, and TERRIBLE writing, but very competent. If you're willing to do the work, an A should be no problem. Highly recommend her.
Loved, Loved, Loved Her!!! Funny and witty!
Dont take her at all. Extremely annoying accent. Her tests are okay, but the paper will kill you. My friends and I wrote perfect papers, English class wise, and she failed us for not using her style of bibliography. She should not be teaching this class. Avoid at all costs.
Very Fun Teacher, has a different teaching stye, but tries to make it intresting. I Recommend her class.
The class was very interesting, but something about her I didn't like (on the personal level). Overall the class is not bad, I've learned a lot from her.
Taylor is the coolest professor on the face of the planet. Make no mistake: her classes are no cakewalk, but if you study the material, it's no sweat. Taylor's lectures are tightly focused, and if you can't keep up with fast lectures, you may have trouble. The responsibility in her classes lies with the student. This isn't highschool.
Her lectures are very clear and she's knows how to keep students entertained. She uses a lot of examples, which made it easier for me to grasp the concepts and know the material. Her tests are pretty straight forward. Just study the notes and listening to her examples during her lecture really help you to learn. I REALLY LOVED THIS CLASS!
She's a really great teacher!!! She's fun horrible accent and really bad writing but she makes the class fun. The paper is not hard you just have to put some effort and creativity into it. I got a B in the class. Def take her she makes it fun
shes so nice and what a fun class
Simply just take her class!!
She is very unapproachable. She is lively during class and is engaging with her students as a group. But on a 1:1 basis, she is not very helpful at all. When you ask her questions, she is very unpleasant. Also, she is much nicer to the men and gives attitude to the women. I don't like her.
Wow! I learned so much in Yemmy's class, plus she was so astonishing! I loved how she helped me when I was struggling. If you take her class serious and ask her for help before hand you will do fine. Word to the wise, follow her format on her bibliography hand out and if you don't understand it then ask her.
I agree with 11/29/05 comment. Yemmy keeps class alive; however, would not answer any questions after class. Very arrogant.
whacko sometimes for sure, doesn't answer e-mails, whatnot, but a good person who cares about your grade... prompts for projects are extremely confusing but she does not grade hard at all
I Love Yemmy!!! I had so much fun in her class.
She may appeal to the typical student, makes jokes and talks about sex all the time, but for the serious student she should ring alarm bells. She teaches incorrect information and seems out of her depth when a student asks an interpretive question. She covers up her ignorance with references to sex all the time and this is offputting. Disappointing
she is an AWESOME teacher! if you get the chance to take any of her classes, TAKE THEM! she is super nice and cool.....aaaaaaaand knows how to teach very very well. her lectures are totally thorough and very helpful. her basis on tests is basically from her notes and some from the textbook. just read the material and youll be set!
Love her!! omg she is awesome she knows so much obviously! since she has her masters and Ph.D! duh anyways she is a great teacher that if you show her you care, she will care about you and your grade. Thanks to her I finished my research paper a month before it was due. SHE ROCKS!
Class is primarily powerpoint presentations. Dr. Taylor loves to talk about sex and she may seem crazy, but in the end she is a decent teacher. 3 Exams, 1 7-page paper. Exams are difficult, but if you study hard you should do okay. Would take another teacher if I had the choice to next time around.
I took Ab Psych with her. She was really intimidating at first, but I think she’s a really interesting person and a wonderful professor. She’s also very knowledgeable and seems to care about her students. Other people in my class complained that her tests were hard, but they’re really not if you study (plus, she gives you a study guide). Would take her again!
Dr Yemmy is the Best!! Very intelligent, down to earth, and shows respect and human relation. Take notes, go to class, and study the study guides, youll be fine! For the research paper.. make sure you know how to do it--she is soooo helpful to teach you if you do not! Take Her!!! I really like this Professor.
Shes AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Thorough, HELPFUL,CLEAR, and funny too! If u hav problem with something--- she is understanding and intelligent to hear u really! Go 2 class, do the notes, and the research-paper well its easier then u think... just ask her how and really pay attention 2 wut shes says! I love her, I love her!!!! Shes respectful too! Take her!
Intelligent, Educated Prof. Exams are on lectures- which she gives lots of examples that are on the exams+ she gives study guides making it easier to get A. She is a good role-model/mentor, understands alot of life of today. Genuine, cares for you to know the work.Memorizes everyones name on first day. She has a nice fit body-healthy! A++ Helpful,
Dr. Taylor seems strict @first, but ends up WAY COOL! 3 exams based on lecture notes=easyA.No Final! 7-8pg research paper doublespace basically=to a 3pg essay,& gives lots of time to do it!Xtrcredt can be earned on exams. Theres food&Treats n class. shes Helpful, relates to students, Good teacher! Direct&clear. I recommend her anyday! Great Teacher
You cant be late to class, or you have to bring food or dance..which makes people not come to class if theyre going to be late, which is a terrible teaching ethic. Shes not that nice, but its OK i guess. No homework, does attendance, take notes all class long watching hours of powerpoints. Very boring.
She is sooo helpful. She really pushes us to do our best. We even have free counseling with her. STUDY STUDY STUDY...We have a huge research paper, but she announces that at the beginning when it is do a month befor finals. TAKE HER
She is a good teacher. As long as you come to class you should be fine. Her writing is not legible, so you will have to ask her.
Psych 5: Con: Bring food if tardy(cant be late)notes are pointless.(just read once, define study guide terms)-->easy. Eassay 5 pages min. Long ecessive research on proquest. Oral presentation. could have gotten an A/B but eassy to much time consuming.
if u study the textbook,u will be fine.Just go to class everyday and do the assignments,u will earn full points for them.As long as u go to class and do the classwork,u will earn full extra credit. Then, there is a 7 pages paper for final. She already gave you the assignment from the first day of the class. So you have a lot of time to do well.
Kool professor!:) Attend class, take notes from lectures=easy A! Research Paper is easy=summerize articles, few thoughts and its done! She is funny, understanding and smart! take her-- awesome teacher!
5 pgs min + 10-15 more pgs.= 15-10 pgs total because of works cited at the end. --Waste a ridic amount of paper for that. --->pro/map quest-->time consuming. Took me about 10+ hours to find infos. on my subject..because you have to find a few bios, docu, a bunch other catorgories...etc. = 20+hrs. class easy read text once, should got a A/B but C+ d
I loved this class, I have taken Psych. 1 three times ( I'm a bit of a slacker) and Dr. Taylor made this class easy to follow, as long as you do the reading take REALLY good notes, then you'll be fine. There's a seven page paper due in the middle of the term, but you have plenty of time to do it. I highly recommend taking Dr. Taylor class.
Dr. Taylor has good clear(thorough) lectures, using powerpoint--SO TAKE NOTES!!Extremely helpful and approachable if you have any questions. She gives studyguides which with along your notes equals an easy "A" Smart Professor! Organized. Funny sometimes.Overall- well rounded professional professor, Recommended!!!
2 words to sum up dr. taylor... GREAT PROFESSOR!
Very good professor. Puts students needs before hers. Attendence is mandatory. Memorize terms from her PP, and look for examples in book. Don't be late, and pray your cell phone doesn't go off in class.
Great Professor!
She is very nice. Answers all your questions. She is a little hard to comprehend because of her accent but overall nice teacher. The exams are a little hard but focus on the reading. Reading that textbook is a must to pass her class. Also, there is a research paper at the end and it's worth a lot. I got a B in her class. Attendance is MANDATORY!
She makes the most boring content, fun, you WANT to show up for class. Highly recommend this professor, just be SURE TO COMPLETE THE REQUIRE READING!! Her study guides give you exactly what you need to pass this class.
Taylor was a really good teacher. I took her once a week 3 hour class and I rarely read the chapters ahead of time but still got an A. She explains each concept clearly which is good for a class like psych. Very nice and great personality. Go to class because she has in class activities that account for 70 points. Exams are scenarios of information
Great teacher, have to bring food if ur late to class. Cares about students. Grabs ur attention ;)
she is a very helpfula and great teacher. it is important to read the book and her notes. attendance is very important i got a B in her class. very well dresses as well :)
So I looked at this page before taking this class. Ugh! she was horrible, it seemed like she was always in a hurry to get out of the class. Not very helpful when you ask her questions, and her study guides are not given to the students until almost less than a week before the test. Just not a very well organized teacher.
She is a cool person, and she knows her stuff. But when it comes to explaining it and being a teacher, shes not so good. And she isnt very helpful when you need help. Youll have to do it on your own, but if you study youll be fine/ok
This teacher knows her stuff. She is an actual therapist and has some really interesting insights. She gives a study guide before each exam. In order to get an A in the class, you take the study guide, write a few sentences about each term, then memorize it. It takes a few hours, but a few hours 3 times a semester is not that bad for an A.
Energetic and odd. Great teacher. Exams are hard because the wording is so similar so make flash cards according to study guide and you should get an A.
kool person but not a great teacher, she is HARD and you'll have a hard time trying to understand her. DO NOT TAKE HER
Very energetic, funny, and enthusiastic woman. I liked her a lot as a person but not so much as a prof. She moves quickly, gives a lot of work, study guide was not too helpful, and the book is 100% needed.
Best Psychology teacher. Very funny. Tries to relate information so it's easy to understand. Understanding and down to earth. Basically NO homework and the 1 or 2 papers we had to write, i wrote the night before and i got A's. Love her!
LOVED DR. TAYLOR!! she is totally a fair professor. At times you may have a hard time understanding exactly what she wants from you on the essay assignments but she repeats it over and over so if your paying attention you'll be fine. She is a great professor. LOVED her teaching style. You do have to work for your grade, she doesn't give them out fo
She is a nice teacher, funny teacher. I think just take a notes from power point and listen the example, I think your will be fine in the class.
Besides her thick accent, Yemmy is almost impossible to get an A with. With the massive amount of time dedicated to research reports, studying for tests (which aren't at all easy, whether you study 2 weeks or the night before), and the boring lectures, you may find that you have to force yourself to even want to show up. Boring and waste of my time
Great teacher, need to be in class for lectures and she goes over almost everything on the test. Also come to class for inclass assignments as they will really help your grade. She gives great examples and is very funny. If you come to class, take notes and pay attention it is an easy A.
"hello hello - good morning, good morning" are the famous greeting words of dr or mrs taylor. she is a great and kind person, but the class itself is not so great. powerpoint EVERY class so be prepared to take notes. gives the essay topic beginning of class (its in the syllabus). no homework besides studying. study off the notes. "ta teh ta teh ta"
she get upset if you don't call her Dr. , if you want to learn or get a good grade don't take this class. everything slur out from a power point.
Prof. Taylor is a very professional teacher. I loved the class and learned alot. She adds extra credit assignments at end of class often. Don't leave early. You'll miss out. I loved the midterm. fun! She is easy to talk to, helpful, kind, respectful.Show up and do your work. I would love to take another class with her! Very happy with her teaching.
Interesting teacher. Great if you are self motivated. Not very helpful on an individual basis, but excellent at teaching the class as a whole. Tests are easy to pass if you read the textbook.
Amazing teacher. Had a lot during Human Sexuality. Has great guest speakers. Make sure you read the text book to pass the test. Grade is based on 3 test and an easy paper. Highly recommend her!
I had her for Psy1 and it so soooo fun to take her class :) She is fun, easy-going, and very helpful !! it's a bit hard to understand what she's saying sometimes but thats not a problem. TAKE HER!
i know u want to take this class. don't take it. she is horrible, awful, not a good person. she is not there to help. she is a doctor, but just because she had a horrible time getting her ph.d and can't get a job better than a jc, she wants to ruin your life
Not very helpful on a personal basis. Lots of rambling and story-telling during class. She makes you pay $1 if your phone goes off and bring food or dance if you're late. Doesn't prepare well for test - so this class is basically just up to you. Book mandatory. Don't take class with her, find a different professor.
She honesty lectures through slides. She has an attitude when you ask her a question, VERY RUDE. Her hand writing is horrible. If you want to learn about psychology DONT TAKE HER! IT IS HARD TO GET AN A . She grades hard on essays (almost everyone got a C or D in my class). Tests are not easy even if u study weeks in advance.
TAKE THIS CLASS WITH ANOTHER PROFESSOR !
She knows her stuff but her tests are from the book. I got an A in her class even though I did not do so hott on her tests. She gives extra credit secretly. Personally I like to know my grade and in her class I was always guessing. She's a nice teacher. If your phone goes off you have to pay a dollar to the class bank that you donate to a charity
she is nice & can be funny too especially in this subject. she is very intelligent & has a heart for the people she helps. HOWEVER don't rely on what others are saying about her giving xtra credit secretly & giving out A's for the hell of it. honestly i had a 69.4%,0.6% from a C. what did she give me? the D. F'ed up hardcore, so be very careful....
oh and that person below is wrong, the money you have to give if your phone goes off in class goes into the class bank for food at the end of the semester, not charity.
Took the class over summer and she got really far behind in lectures but you still had to know everything. Don't come in late. She is nice and helpful. Her test are difficult even after studying, but she offered extra credit for seeing speakers at her human sexuality class. She was alright not my favorite teacher, but not the worst either.
Dr Taylor is by far one of my favoite teachers at IVC. her class is very fun and she keeps you interested with stories. When it comes to notes she provides numerous examples and is very helpful. Although I have to say ocassionaly she was difficult to understand due to her accent but you get used to it throughout the semester. The best part of the class is that her rule is that if your late you either have to dance or bring food so u will always be entertained or eating. I highly recommend her
So much fun.
I didnt like this teacher. Her classes are too large. It was a waste of tuition. If you want to learn, just read the book. The teacher is not necessary in this course. She is eccentric and can be unnecessarily rude sometimes.
Professor Taylor is an amazing teacher. She gives so many examples that you can't help but understand the concept. Attend class because it will help a lot with the tests and she gives easy in class assignments.
I took her sexuality class, It was a interesting class but she ruined it. she was rude and condescending. She made us give a dollar when a cell phone went off and said it would go to a pot luck or charity and said she would send us a e-mail to confirm the charity she never notified us so that was a waste. Not a nice individual very harsh.
She is WONDERFUL. My favorite teacher hands down. She is so so interesting and also very entertaining. If you show up to class and put in effort, you will get a good grade. Do not take if you don't plan to attend class, 1/4 of your grade is in class assignments. This class is not a free RIDE but definitely worth it!
Those who enjoy psychology, this class is pretty good. I'd have to say she kept the class on our toes with her lively banter. Be sure you take good notes and know key terms and you shouldn't have a problem.
she is o.k. not an excellent teacher. I personally do not like her habbit of asking late students to dance or bring cookie to the class as a compensation of their late attendance. It's cheap and not funny.
She bases her class completely upon two factors: the book (all tests are based on the given textbook) & her obvious personal life experiences. She is not helpful and not involved in interacting with the class in any way. I don't know why she teaches if she clearly doesn't like it. She's really bad.
ok. She has terrible handwriting. A little difficult to understand (accent). If you dont want to dance or bring food for the class when you are late, dont come at all. Notes are all from the book. Theres a research paper, no homework, 2scantron tests (i believe), no quizzes. She has a attitude and her tests are not easy. Study vocab.
Showing up to class everyday is mandatory. There are 3 tests all scantron. Take good notes and read the book and you should be fine. She is willing to help you out if you need it. Can be hard to understand but she is a good teacher! Not a ton of work but a good effort to get an A
I enjoyed her lectures so much. i took her for two classes personality psych and sexual psych. She answered my emails quick and was understanding. Great personality. Her classes are hard, she gives study guides which are helpful. If you love psychology and really want to learn take her classes its not an easy A but you will learn if you work for it.
Super hard class. Attendance is mandatory. She goes off into tangents and her tests never reflect what you learn in class. Plus you cannot understand a word she says. Be prepared to bring food or dance for the class if you're late. 3 tests and a research paper.
Very hard to understand her lectures and grammar. Goes off on tangents. Middleschoolers keep straighter faces than she does when discussing the topic of sexual behavior, which is rife with overt laughter, disgusting impressions of sex, and annoying personal disclosures. Interesting subject, below average teacher. "That is all."
You get used to her accent. It's not a big deal. (Besides, we need a little exposure to other cultures.) 3 tests, 1 research paper, like others have said. No homework. There are occasionally open-note, in-class quizzes. Only a few questions. Still, make sure you take good notes and pay attention. I advise that you get the textbook.
This is a difficult class. she expects college level work and gives very little guidance for research paper and exams. Not an easy A (or B for that matter). I loved the class! Lecture was fascinating. She will not hold your hand or be especially helpful or nice in office hours so be prepared for that. if you love psych and want to learn, take!
Proven Secret to Acing this course: 1)Show up, take notes and do all the in-class assignments. 2)Review her 3 test study guides with the book and get 'real life' meanings of the terms. 3)Have her approve the empirical articles for your paper and follow the format EXACTLY. 4)Show interest in the class, participate and Don't have an attitude cool guy!
I took her online class and it is fairly easy as long as you do the work. Read one chapter and take a quiz each week, plus one term paper. Her exams are a little difficult, and she uses everything from the book, so make sure you read & understand the concepts. Overall, she's a nice teacher and will reply to your questions via email if you have any
Everything is pretty easy except for the exams, which make up a lot of your grade. Key to getting an A = participation, in class assignments (worth about half your grade--very easy, its basically completion points), study the book for exams (study guide not helpful). tests are very hard, study 2 weeks in advance. Follow my words and u get an A PRUS
Seriously loved her teaching and this class. Recommend it to anyone. Granted, I do think you have to be at least somewhat interested in Psychology to excel to the fullest.
took her online class she was useless, couldn't understand how to use the program and couldn't assist me on what to do... easy quiz just follow book one midterm paper.
Shes a wonderful lady. Show up to class put in a little effort, its very interesting. She is willing to give extra help. If you are late you must bring candy for the entire class
I learned a lot, but feel very frustrated because this is not reflected by my grade. Tests are very subjective and questions are ambiguous. I have put in MANY HOURS of hard work and still unable to earn an A in this course.
I learned a lot from this class, she gives us lots of examples to make sure we understand the material. She even demonstrates examples for us, it's pretty funny sometimes. She is very organized and her lectures are very clear. Her tests are kinda tricky, but if you pay attention in class you should be fine. She gives extra credit. Great teacher
Online class, not enjoyable at all. Lecturer doesn't answer emails, barely communicates, takes ages to grade papers, gives a useless study guide and syllabus full of incorrect web links. I read the book, took detailed notes and studied plenty, but the tests are so wierd, vague and incredibly detailed that it is impossible to do well on them.
Exams were completely inconsistent with the text and impossible to do well on, despite the text being the only source of information in the course. My experience in trying to work with this professor was frustrating and made me feel as if there was little concern about student success. I am a 4.0 student with an Ivy League college degree and I did not feel it was possible to fairly succeed in this course.
Doesn't reply to emails, isn't organized with grading WHATSOEVER, poor consistency, study guides have nothing to do with tests, vague, syllabus is hardly informative, not to mention you can't understand a word she says unless you speak fluent kenyan.
Not a very good teacher. very hard to understand! Writes notes on your papers that you cant even read what they say. and when you go and ask her for help on your term paper she is is very vague and says things like "go into more detail"! when she grades the term paper she grade very hard! her study guides have absolutely nothing to do with her test
Honestly, I never let teachers get to me or their styles and such, she lacked EVERY ounce of positive things a teacher should have. She does not help you when you need it, she won't address what's exactly on the test, even though a study guide is give, it just lists them as terms and you're supposed to magically memorize the concepts. Don't take!!!
Worst experience I've ever had in college. Text used was very elementary but exams were incomprehensible and impossible to prepare for. Professor seemed arrogant and totally unconcerned about the problems with this class. After 2 maddening months, I withdrew rather than take a grade I didn't earn. I'm astounded that she chooses to teach, frankly.
I'm used to accents, so hers didn't bug me at all. Plus it's not that heavy, you guys! Her handwriting is atrocious, though. She replied to all of my emails, but that's probably because I interjected a lot in class & she got the feeling that I was interested. Her tests were really confusing, even after I prepared all week! A mixed bag of a class.
I took her PSYC 1 class before, it was fine then. But I don't know whether she is having a miserable life now or what. She almost became a different person with the same heavy accent and 100 times worse arrogance. Although, she seems to like more guys than girls...
She is a fantastic teacher with a lot of real-world clinical and lab experience (a rare find in psych profs). She knows her material, is organized, and cares about her students. The tests are though, but doable if you study. Do your homework, study, and read the text and you'll do fine, but she WILL fail you if you don't do the work.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Her tests do not come from lecture, the lectures are useless and what she does take from the book is also incomprehensible.
read the book. "that is it"
She's prty awesome. If you're confused about something during class, she'll explain it until you get it. She has her own clinic so she brings some material discussed to life. She does has an accent but it isn't bad.
I love her accent! (don't know why everyone's complaining about it. It's lovely.) She cares about her students and will do whatever it takes to answer questions. As a psychology major, it is super helpful to have an instructor with clinical experience. She's awesome and loves when students get involved.
Took her for abnormal psych and loved the class. She's a great lecturer, very funny. Not very helpful 1on1. In fact she borderline rude. Seems burnt out by dealing with lazy students. She will not hold her hand- but this is college after all not elementary school. Read the book, go to class, and you'll get an A and enjoy psych.
After 5yrs of working w/Yemmy scheduling guest speakers for her Psyc5 class & personally participating on in-class discussion panels, I finally took her class. She puts as much effort & energy into teaching as you bring to learn. Grading is clear & fair. She can laugh and keep things light while maintaining true class ans professionalism.
She is very smart. She knows what she is talking about. She sometimes talks too fast but the class is sooo interesting and It is easy to do well. Study for the tests, do the reaction papers (weekly) and you will get that A or B.
I really disliked this teacher her grading scale is absurd she gave me a C on the paper and when I went to talk to her why she told me my paper was very good and when i asked why I got a C she just got rude and said the points didn't matter and i shouldn't care about that.... WTF!!!
My favorite teacher this semester! Very funny and keeps the class exciting and lively. Great class and highly reccomend.
She is the worst teacher I have taken at IVC! I say this because she has no respect or patients for the students. She wants to come in and leave without having to deal with questions. If u want to take this for easy a dont ever try to talk to her and study a lot!
Avoid her! Not Easy. She has the worst accent ever, I could barely understand her. And on top of that shes not as intelligent, shes just RUDE. Grades WAYYYY to harsh. We had to presentations and everyone said I did really great, except she gave me a C and didnt want to discuss it. She doesnt want you visiting in office hours. BEWARE !
Don't take her unless you're a psych major and you're naturally interested and good at the subject. i don't mind her accent. If you ask her for clarity on test questions she'll laugh at you, also what's on the test is NEVER on the study guides. I don't recommend her
She is really hard. If you want to learn about psych and want to study a lot take her. she helps when you go to her office hours. NOT when you go before or after class. shes rude but i learned SO MUCH. i got an a and it took SO many hours of studying for that grade
Not a bad profesor at all! Very enthusiastic while teaching. She seems to really enjoy her subject, which makes me enjoy learning. Tests are hard and require a lot of studying. She gives a lot of examples during lectures, which helps ALOT. DON'T MISS LECTURE! Handwriting is horrible. Good thing she uses powerpoint notes.
I don't know whether she's more annoying in class or online. In class her lectures are confusing and her accent makes it hard for most to follow. She also shuns needy students. She uses a poor textbook and the online program has a very confusing interface and the tech support is completely useless. Just need to pass for the IGETC..
I took her class in fall 2012 & she's the best professor I've ever had until now! If you are majoring in psych you would love her!she explains in detail & gives really good examples that get your attention and interest! She makes the topic so interesting that even when I am sleepy I find myself into it ! Fun & lively but youve got to deserve the A
ONE OF MY FAVORITE PROFESSORS OF ALL TIME, DO IT, JUST DO IT
ONE OF MY FAVORITE PROFESSORS OF ALL TIME, DO IT, JUST DO IT
Yemmy is literally the worst teacher I've ever had. I went in multiple times to ask her about questions on quizzes that I didn't understand why I got wrong and she told me that she didn't write the quizzes, the publisher's of the book did, so she didn't have anything to do with the answers, least helpful teacher I've ever had.
It was less of a psych class and more of a high school health class. She skipped over 5 chapters and doesn't appear organized at all. Terrible class
Yemmy is a great professor. She gives great examples by acting things out so it's really easy to remember. I didn't get the book and barely got by with an 81 but studied hard and attended all classes. There are only a couple assignments due throughout the semester and they are really easy. Just do those and attend class and you'll get a good grade
I really enjoyed this class. She is so fun and makes the lectures very entertaining. You sign an attendance sheet every class and it goes toward your participation grade. She gave study guides for the tests which were a collection of terms that may be on the test. 7 page paper due at the end of semester but really easy bc it's about yourself.
Taylor is my favorite teacher at IVC! Gives plenty of assignments including a paper and project at the of the semester to boost your grade. Exams aren't easy but if you read and study the notes you'll get an A! Come to class prepared and take it seriously. You will learn a lot! :-)
I have mixed feelings about this course. In some respects I found it ridiculously easy. Her quizzes are all taken directly from the book publisher's website..verbatim. She seems to grade fairly on papers. However, her exams are very difficult in the sense that even if you study using the study guide you aren't necessarily prepared.
Prof. Taylor is awesome!! she's a very happy and positive woman. I had a hard time at first adjusting to her accent but after the third class, it was very easy to understand. The lectures are easy to follow, she uses all power point BUT the exams are multiple choice and the questions are very confusing on them. Otherwise this is a great Prof.
Prof. Taylor is a fair Professor. She has high energy and a positive outlook. Her lectures are power point and her test's are a bit frustrating because it seems as though you can never feel enough prepared for the exams due to the questions being confusing and tricky. The term paper we had to write was a bit to personal, I feel.
Seriously I worked my butt off in this course and got a B. I went to office hours and emailed her all the time with questions. I seriously would never take this class again online. I emailed led her with specific questions and instead of answering my questions she would give me some random answer. I never rate professors. Don't take her online!!!
She teaches, but not to the test. When I asked her what I should study for the next test, I quote her, "I don't know what to tell you." Her tests are quite annoying, as, each possible answer is similar to each other and it's more difficult than it needs to be. No matter how much you study, you'll probably get a C at best.
Professor Taylor is willing to help students succeed in Psychology especially if they plan on becoming a psychology major. Her essays and exams are very easy as long as you attend class. Reading the textbook is not necessary and she offers a ton of extra credit opportunities. As long as you're willing to try, you will receive an A.
Prof. Taylor teaches but her tests are completely different. She doesn't help us prepare for the actual test- like questions. Her question are like reverse psychology.. She is funny and a really nice lady, you must pay attention and do a lot of studying on your own. She is OK.
2 papers, 1 quiz a week for the online class, and 3 on-campus exams usually on fridays. She gives you a study guide for the exams but they don't really help. Her exams are really hard to study for and reading the book doesn't help. is an easy grader for the papers. Do the quizzes and papers and you'll get a B even if you get D's on the exams.
Professor Taylor is nice and helpful but she can be difficult to understand. The exams are the worst because no matter how much you study, you'll never be prepared enough. Multiple choice but slightly confusing because all answers could apply. Points are given for attendance and she gives points for answering a few questions at the end of class.
Great Professor. Tough Tests. Points for attendance. Don't skip class because she gives short assignments at the end of class and you get points (160 total) and can't make them up.
Never miss class, even if it's an excused absence. I was hospitalized for a week during the semester and wasn't allowed to make up any of the missing work, which ended up totaling near 10% of my grade. She gave the wrong due date for another assignment in class and though she said it was her mistake, she would not let me turn it in. Unreasonable.
So much work!!!! Two chapters and quizzes a week. 20 pages per chapter. Online quizzes are easy but tests are DIFFICULT and very specific. Make detailed outlines as you read the chapters and use them for review. Anticipate 10 hrs a week for this class if you want an A. She seems nice but email responses are not very helpful.
Unfortunately I stopped showing up, not due to her. She is upbeat and fun and her accent makes class interesting. I have to retake her class and am looking forward to the learning experience. You have to show up or you will fail. She makes it so easy if you pay attention to her lectures thats all you will need to study. I like her she is funny
She asks you what you think of her teaching and then doesn't change. She ends class early but doesn't allow you to be late when you pay to be there. I went to every class and figured out half of her test isn't on the study guide. Her syllabus says you do group work but all she does is read off a powerpoint and waits till the last second to grade.
You have to show up for class. The tests are nothing like the study guide. She is a tough grader and her lectures are long. So goes through her PowerPoint really fast. You can't be late to her class but she let's you out early.
Do yourself a big favor and dont take her. A lot of people will ask her questions that she does not know how to answer. Simply put, she is very incompetent in teaching due to her lack of passion in sharing her knowledge and beliefs about psychology. NOT WILLING TO HELP EVEN IF YOU ARE AN EVERYDAY FRONT ROW STUDENT.
Very fair, knowledgeable, and experienced. Willing and eager to help if you follow the syllabus, follow directions, and check class Blackboard updates regularly. Heard too many students feel entitled and expect her to go easy on them. Go to every class to get the most points possible. If you pay for a class, commit to go to class!
attendance for any of her classes is a must. the reason her tests are difficult is because she wants you to apply the material to situations, so write down her examples. youll pass if you understand the concept and apply it to real life situations.
I'll admit that this online class was rather difficult. I was determined to get an A and figured out that just studying from her slides would not do because her exams would ask questions that were not only in her slides but also hidden somewhere in the textbook. This was the first class I had to read every single page from the textbook to get an A.
I loved Taylor's class. She is hilarious and sweet. Her examples (skits) are the best. Very enjoyable class. Use free online book. Make sure to show up!! Or you will not do well. Would take again in a heartbeat. Very kind and helpful.
She does not respect students to reply to their emails. You ask her a question and you might as well forget it. IVC definitely must offer more sections with alternative instructors. Too bad Saddleback does not offer this course. A group of us ended up taking this class at another college, so much better. If you are serious, don't take her class
mixed feelings. her tests arent based of her lectures, you need to know the term and how its application is to the field to pass her tests. like most psych proff's shes quirky. the book is the only thing that saves you, her classes not so much. barley passed bc my term paper was flawless. failed every exam because of her painfully difficult tests.
Can't understand her. Had to leave for family emergencies and told her 2 months in advance, and finished all the work in advance; she confirmed and said it would be okay. Came back and she failed me because of my lack of attendance even though i finished the work and claimed "she never talked to me" when I had the emails to prove it. Hard class.
Professor Taylor is a great teacher in that she truly is passionate about what she is teaching. I took her for Human Sexuality, and she made the class a lot less awkward than I was expecting. She also has a great sense of humor. However, her tests are HARD. Study guide covers probably 20% of test. Attend class and take detailed notes.
Her lectures and study guides are not in any way what are on her exams. I was stocked to take this class but after the first exam I saw her true colors. Although it was abnormal psychology in some lectures she would always incorporate sex lol. Goodluck to all of you taking her class.
Worst teacher ever. Gave me an F on my term paper bc she said I didnt understand the theories in class. However, i received As on all exams WHICH TEST THE THEORIES. I asked how she objectively graded it, she just said "I, in some way, didnt get that you understood the theories" she got flustered and just said she would regrade harsher if i wanted
Class: Lectures normally run short, very animated and tells lots of stories and anecdotes to help you understand, DON'T BE LATE. Homework, tests. etc: All quizzes were rather easy and informal, Homework was rare and just tested if you paid attention at all,Tests weren't that hard. My favorite professor at IVC and an incredibly sweet person!
She does not communicate well. Don't expect too much from her. Take the other instructors at IVC if you can. They have better credentials and it shows.
I already have a BA but needed this prereq for a new career. I took it online & this teacher is the worst I've ever taken in college. In my opinion she seems like she does not like her job or the students & it shows. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE! I highly recommend Dr Orme at golden west college for this class. She was amazing!
Received an A. Dr. Yemmy Taylor is not an easy professor, but her lectures are interesting, short, and easy to understand. Make sure you listen, and don't take notes all the time. She doesn't leave time for you to write it down. Tests are pretty hard, and reading the textbook is absolutely essential if you want to pass. Don't just know the terms.
Gives great examples so the material really sticks in your brain
If you are seriously interested in psychology, find another professor. This was one of the harder classes I've taken at IVC. The tests are confusing and no matter how much you study, you'll never be prepared. I barely passed this class with a C.
Mixed feelings about Dr. Taylor. She's very intelligent, but kinda cooky. Lectures can be boring. Only 3 tests & a term paper. No homework. Honestly, I wish I'd chosen another professor, but it could be worse.
Professor Yemmy is very upbeat and active during lectures. Her class is a 90% powerpoint lecture and 10% pop quiz, in class discussion, and videos. Her powerpoint lecture goes by really fast so I suggest using a laptop to take notes and then review it afterwards. There was 4 extra credit opportunity but may vary each year.
Reading the text book is really essential. It is important to go to class because she gives quizzes at random at the end of lectures on what is learned. If you are late, you are penalized by having to bring food for the class or dancing in front of everyone, which I found to be a bit juvenile. Did keep me on time though. Basically, READ and ATTEND.
Lectures are confusing and long. There are pop quizzes. Has rules like don't be late for class or you have to buy food for the whole class the next day or dance in front of the class. Study guides don't help at all. Her tests are all examples of the concepts. Not the easy questions.
This class was very difficult. She goes way too fast during her lectures and it is almost impossible to retain any of the information. She posts powerpoints online but they are way different. Her tests are very hard and hardly cover the things we learn in class. Read and memorize the book word for word if you want to do well. Study a LOT.
Psychology is really interesting and Dr. Yemmy's lectures are interesting and if you pay attention to her examples it makes it easier to understand the concepts. Don't be late or you will have to buy food for the class :D
You have 4 exams the whole year. Make sure you go to class because she does take attendance, but more importantly, you want to be there for the pop quizzes. They're not that difficult as long as you pay attention to the lectures. If you really want to ace it, read the book. Lots of the examples on the exams are from the book. She's nice.
Her class was all based on notes. That's all you do in that class -- take notes. The material isn't boring though. No homework except a long paper. She isn't a hard grader either. The textbook helped when it came to tests and she gives you a list of what to expect on the test.
In one word, "AWESOME"! Take her class and you'll love it. She's not an easy grader though and as a student you need to take the responsibility to study and get a good grade ;) Her exams are not easy. She is very engaging and attentive in her lectures. I wish I could take her classes again.
Lecture was very fast pace and sometimes hard to understand. Test was heavy and a lot of pop quizzes. I don't recommend this class.
Really disappointed by this professor. It's as though she makes the quizzes and exams purposely confusing. Even if you study, nothing of what she test on (context of questions) is in book. Mind games is how I felt, her intensions were. Theories is what she claims to focus on. Take another teacher.
I have had Dr. Taylor for three different classes. She is consistent with each one, she wants her students to understand the materials, not just memorize facts. Her lectures are awesome, she uses real world examples to explain things. 2 essays that are relatively non-complicated. Show up, take notes, and use her study guides and you will pass.
If you put in the work, you can get an A, but be prepared to work hard. Biggest piece of advice I can give is READ the textbook. Sit in class and just pay attention to lectures - no need to take notes. It is just reinforcing what the textbook says. When the tests roll around, dedicate a serious amount of time to that book.
Taylor's lectures are kind of boring & don't really apply to the test (make sure you read the book for that). Grade is based on a few essays, tests, and attendance. Very strict about sticking with the syllabus and grading breakdown - even when she doesn't follow the schedule, so make sure u attend class so you don't miss anything.
Loved her class. She is so inspirational and caring. Be there and participate and you'll pass.
She has a very strong accent and has horrible hand writing. She recommends her students to read the textbook but I did not and still got an A. All her notes are online but attendance is mandatory because it is apart of the grade & she gives random pop quizzes. She curves every test by a lot and is pretty funny. Oh yeah, don't be late to her class!!
I do not care for psychology much but I took this in my first semester in college and I was expecting to not do well but I actually finished with all As & 1 B. It is IMPERATIVE that you read the textbook because what she lectures about is only 1/4 of what's on the tests. She goes through slides really fast so I mainly stuck to the book.
Not the greatest professor, lecture heavy and super hard test
Dr. Taylor knows her stuff and she is also a clinical psychologist so she works in the field. She is super approachable and reasonable. You should go to class because she takes attendance, but she won't drop you if you don't show up. Multiple choice questions are sometimes confusing, but she allows you to ask for clarification. I chose her again.
YOU WILL NEED TO READ THE TEXTBOOK FOR THE TESTS. Weekly online quizzes and discussion boards are easy. The only difficult thing is the tests. They are not impossible. The powerpoint will give you most of the info but the tests may ask questions about studies or small details from the textbook. Study guides are provided which are helpful.
Very strict teacher who does not accept late works. Her tests are very hard so, read the textbook chapters over 10 xs to remember! And there are no extra credit are given in this class. Make sure you study hard and do great on your papers!
She's super nice and gives everyone a chance to get a good grade in the class. She gave me great feedback on assignments. Overall a pretty good teacher to have for an online class!
Her tests are tough. Pay attention to her lectures carefully. Exams are conceptual. If you write well then this would help your grade a lot! She makes a lot of funny and dramatic scenarios for you to understand. Always attend her class. Do the readings in the textbooks and be ready for any pop quizzes. She also gives extra credit.
Tests are not easy but I felt most questions were common sense as long as you interacted with her lectures. Go to office hours if you have questions and raise your hand, she loves it. BUT if you are going to be late for class, just skip or else you have to bring food for the whole class. 3 tests and 2 papers are your grade.
Shes super nice and helpful to all of her students! Super easy grader on the few papers you will have to write. Just put in some effort and the class isnt hard at all
Honestly this class was super easy. She doesn't give any homework. She answers all your questions and accessible during her office hours. She's nice. The test are a bit hard, but not too much. Beware of her pop quizzes! Only 2 major assignments and they're easy. She uses textbook only, so use it. Emailing time is excellent! Definitely recommend!
I took Dr. Taylor's online class. Essay prompts and exam questions are based on textbook readings, so get the book! I couldn't find a concept for one of the essay prompts, but I found it in the lecture slides so read those as well. Not an easy A.
Dr. Yemmy is so funny and passionate about psychology. Her lectures are never boring; she always spices it up with an example of the subject matter and her accent is so fascinating. Shes a fair grader; if you do a good job, she gives you a good grade. Shes really good about giving and accepting feedback, and I love her classes!
She is funny and the topic she teaches are interesting. She gives out pop quizzes. Her tests are very long and hard. Its mostly based off the book so get ready to read a lot.
She is very nice and helps her students. She is also quite hilarious and she cares for her students. Take the class if you want to laugh. She doesn't grade by many things so be aware you fail one assignment make sure the others are good grades.
I would avoid this Professor at all costs. Her lectures are off topic and rambling, her grading is inconsistent and confusing, and she contradicts the textbook frequently. Definitely stay on top of readings though.
3 on-campus tests, non-cumulative final. EC from extra questions on tests. 2 quizzes due on Tuesdays based on the 2 weekly chapters. (ONE attempt-15min-10 pts). 5 discussions. EASY 7pg final paper, short essay questions. She's STRICT. She tells u exactly how she wants it otherwise will dock pts. overall lots of pts to earn but easy to lose them
This professor was the hardest one I've ever met in PSYC classes. Quizzes were fine. it usually came out from the textbooks, but tests are very hard. You have to understand and apply concepts to modeling in whole chapter. Reading is not helpful. You have to understand the concepts fully. She's such a tough grader. Be careful. Try to avoid her.
tests are 95% based on study guides. prof. taylor is extremely knowledgeable about psychology and gives tons of examples from her clinical work, but as a professor, she is underwhelming. she barely stuck to her course schedule and we had to rush to finish chapters. can sometimes be unnecessarily blunt with people.
I took Dr. Taylor for Human Sexuality last summer. It was an online class. We had a few discussion posts here and there which were easy. Other than that, there was a midterm and final which was in person. You definitely had to read the chapters to do well. Thus, I really did enjoy the class. She seemed nice from seeing her during the exams
She would tend to go off about specific topics for much too long, which would cause her to rush through and skip topics in order to keep up with the schedule. I did not think it was fair that she would skip over topics that would be on exams just because she decided to mismanage her time in class. Would not take again. Beware.
Worst class I've ever taken. I don't know what was the point of her even being our professor when she did nothing and we literally had to read the whole book and teach ourselves everything. Horrible teacher. Would not recommend unless you're okay with teaching yourself everything. Her "study guides" are just key terms and do not help w/ exams.
Teaching style was super-fast lectures with information you were already expected to know, and then tests with information never discussed in class before
This was an online class and we had to teach ourselves everything so there was really no point since she didn't do anything. Her study guides weren't helpful at all and you had to read the book in order to really understand everything. The class itself wasn't hard, she just isn't clear at all about anything. DO NOT recommend for an online class.
(This is for PSYCH 5 Honors/Human sexuality) The lectures aren't that useful but you should still show up to class. The tests are mainly based on the textbook. She grades easy on little assignments but on essays, make sure you do the works cited page correctly or else you'll lose up to like 9 points.
I had Dr. Yemmy for PSY1 and it was pretty easy. The lectures could get boring, but you NEED to show up for class because your attendance will affect your grade. Also, a good bulk of your grade is based on in-class assignments (like little quizzes/short questions). She curved each test and made it out of 80 instead of 100; giving an extra 20 pts.
If you are planning on taking this class, you have to be able to learn from just reading and teaching yourself everything. The study guides aren't very helpful and the exam questions are not straight forward. It is not a hard class if you read and do the assignments but it is probably my least favorite class I have ever taken.
The class is straightforward. Online quizzes (10 questions) after every chapter, 3 in-person exams (non-cumulative), & 1 term paper. Interesting class & Dr. Taylor's goal is to make her students reflect & find ways to improve both their mental & physical health. Study guides are not that helpful so make sure to read the textbook & add on.
To sum up everyones answers- Insensitive b word who doesnt know how to teach
Professor Taylor is not so bad, she has an odd sense of humor and makes jokes here and there. She does not really teach from the book, her lectures are based on her own knowledge. Take notes as much as you can and textbook is required even though it doesn't match up with lecture at times.
Lots of reading material for the 16 quizzes! About 3 discussions, and a term paper that aren't hard since it's interesting stuff. I am just upset at the way she handled our assignments/exams through this pandemic bc she wrote in all caps that she didn't care about our stories and they'd need to get done. Sorry Taylor, we're dealing with stuff too.
Professor, or should I say"Dr.", Taylor is absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. She preaches "conscientiousness", yet lacks the trait herself. Lazy class structure, ABSOLUTELY NO EMAIL RESPONSE (even through a goddamn pandemic), and passive aggressive responses when questioned about her grading. she do be a clown doe !!!!!!
The content of psych32 is incredibly simple. However, Taylor is unorganized& grades very unfairly. She is not the type of teacher to help you through the questions you have, she will probably also ignore all of your emails. I did way worse in this easy class than other much harder classes. Her instructions are confusing and her test q's are dumb.
Not a helpful professor especially for one who teaches psychology!! Has stated almost everywhere that she does not want any type of excuses or drama on the very first day which I think is unnecessary and gives people more anxiety about the class. So if youre going thro stuff or need help, good luck because thats drama and she could careless
For a professor who teaches psychology, especially during a pandemic, you'd think they'd be more helpful than the average instructor. I personally don't find her course difficult, but it seems she hates her job and doesn't want to speak to her students. Part of her profession is to aid students to some degree, which she entirely fails.
Just not the best. Not too much else to say. If you can find a different prof for the class do it, but if you have to take her you'll be okay.
Took this class online. It sucked. she doesn't teach, its asynchronous. There are 2 discussions, 1 paper, and practice quizzes via the online platform. Took her a while to complete grading tasks which is questionable since all the coursework is through the textbook website. I would recommend choosing another prof if you can, to avoid the headache.
This professor was extremely rude to her students. She frequently did not respond to emails, when she does she is short and rude, and she even openly mocked students in an announcement. Do not take if you are interested in viewing different personality quizzes, though they were offered through the book she had all but 2 of them locked.
I found the class very simple to manage. Read the chapter. Take a quiz. Midterm here and there. Discussion here and there. One non-research paper. Just follow directions. Judging by our discussions, most posts I saw showed minimal effort and many didn't even use full sentences or spell check. I think these are most of the people complaining.
Not the best teacher but she is okay.
Tests are very difficult, and sometimes wrong. When presented with proof from the textbook, she did not award me credit.
The class is easy but she is difficult. Her instructions are confusing. If you ask her to clarify she will say it's to "test your critical thinking". She was continually sending condescending announcements to the class literally telling us "it's not rocket science!". I requested a review of my final exam as she gave me a B grade I didn't deserve.
Basically paid tuition for the letter grade and taught myself everything from Pearson. No teaching/material of her own, yet grades unnecessarily hard and unfair--like docking you for test questions she never asked. Heard she was reported to the Dean so she got nicer but shocked she is a therapist given her rudeness and lack of accountability.
Rude tones from her syllabus & anncmts: "Your lack of planning should not constitute a crisis for me. NO DRAMA, NO EXCUSES!" "If you have a lot of emotional issues and physical health problems at this time, please consider withdrawing..." "I do not like excuses or story telling as a defense to life choices. This is a DRAMA free class. NO Excuses."
She does not teach and you are expected to learn everything on your own from book, which is fine BUT she includes test questions that are NOT FROM THE BOOK! Some of the questions are GRADUATE LEVEL! She would only give you 1 hour to complete exams that are supposed to take 4 hours to finish. She doesn't ever let you see what you missed on tests!
She grades unnecessarily picky. Every question is worth too much, u can never afford to get a question wrong without tanking ur grade. Taylor is not understanding, she wasn't considerate when I asked to makeup missing hmwk that Canvas never showed me and gaslighted me while letting my friend in the same situation get his full points back.
This woman has no business being a professor, let alone a clinical psychologist. All of her announcements have a condescending tone to them. She goes out of her way to berate students for asking questions on unclear assignments. It's blatantly obvious she hates her job and takes it out on students. Save yourself the headache and avoid her course.
I never saw her face or heard her voice, she does not lecture at all. All of the material including quizzes and PowerPoints were not even hers. She writes the exams and grades the written portions completely unfairly. Youll miss assignments because they are not on canvas. I am a good writer and student and I advise you to avoid this professor.
It was the first teacher that I have very hard and selfish. No Extra credit, NO EXCUSES at all, NO LATE HOMEWORKs!!! No DRAMA, Don't take this class you gone hate the school, She never responds to emails. She NEVER helps the student when you ask her for clarification for an assignment!!! her class is confusing, and you never see her or her voice.
Professor Taylor is the most condescending professor I have ever had. She barely responds to emails and does not even teach; she uses premade powerpoints and online textbook quizzes. She also grades unnecessarily hard on her tests and does not explain what was wrong. I advise not to take her.
literally crazy, she grades so hard on tests. Our average was a 72 out of 175. She doesnt even curve either. Please please please do not take this class, wait a semester if you have to just dont take her. Her guidelines are not precise and she is really mean. NO
i took this class excited to learn about psych, and this professor made me dread it. the material itself is really interesting but taylors negativity and condescending attitude from day 1 was a major turn off. she grades way too harshly, our class average for a test was literally a 40 percent. i need therapy after taking this psych class
She is hard, NOT understanding. Does not give chances and doesn't tolerate anything. NO EXCUSES. Try your best and don't feel bad if you don't do great. A lot of homework, quizzes and midterms along with final paper and final exam. She is incredibly hard on test, if you don't come from this background its hard to do well. I did my best!
Condescending tone from the very beginning, creating an environment where even if you had any questions you don't feel comfortable asking. You'd be better off buying the book yourself as there isn't ANY instruction within this class. I wish there was something redeeming about her course, but unfortunately there isn't.
Dr. Taylor's lectures are awesome! There were in-class extra opportunities so go to class. She uses real world examples to explain things so write them down. Dr. Taylor responded to my emails quickly. Go to office hours if you have questions or if you do not understand something from the book. Dr. Taylor will help you understand the concepts!
I was very excited for this course and it was pretty easy, but she made it hard for me. No response for any of my emails, no help, rude, and made the whole experience horrible. She would be one of the main reasons Im changing my major.
The weekly canvas videos and quizzes were predictable and easy, and the same goes for some of the discussion boards. But the tests are kinda tough. She doesn't give you enough time, in my opinion. And the short answer section is a lot of points and she grades hard. She wasn't my favorite professor, but it's doable.
Such a great professor in class. Can seem rude or harsh over announcements/email but she is just short and it seems that she doesn't mean to be unkind. Awesome lectures with amazing examples so make sure you're there for those. Other than that, do all the work but expect a B.
Grade depends heavily on tests and finals. Didnt get less than a 90% on any assignment and still ended with a D in the class. Class average on every test was 50% so it wasnt just me.
This is the second time I have taken this professor, and she's very particular in what she wants. Thoroughly read the directions on the prompts along with the textbook, and you'll do fine. She gives lots of reminders about assignment dates, so be prepared.
Dr. Taylor's "NO DRAMA!" mantra is repeated over and over and over agin and it's only day one. Honestly, the most dramatic professor I've ever had is hand down Dr. Taylor. Im not sure how they're also a therapist outside of teaching with this frankly unhinged attitude.
Dr. Taylor comes out of the gate with a degrading approach. She spends more time telling you "NO EXCUSES, YOUR LIFE ISSUES DO NOT CONCERN ME" than actually teaching the material. It's ALL automated except when she grades your test. She takes any chance she can to dock points and doesn't provide a single bit of feedback to help you do better. Awful.
i did maybe 20min a week for this class and was fine. No hw just quizzes. mc for exams were easy, frq has no grading criteria, does whatever she feels w no explanation, i didnt study so no complaints. wrote the term paper in 4hrs, got a 96. went to her office hours just to get acquainted and shes sweet, her emails/syllabus are just worded scary
Does not teach the class at all. There are literally no lectures. Why am I paying to learn from a book and take tests that do not even correlate with it at times? Exams are multiple choice/written. Even if you ace the multiple choice, she grades so hard that I had a 80% in the end and that was the highest in the class. Find a better professor.
She is one of the far worst professors I have ever had. She accused students who cheated on exams when many people have not. 75 questions and we have an hour to do and the writing portions are 75 points of our grade & about our personal life. She grades them as a 0 on all of everyone. Find someone else who cares about their job. This one doesnt.
Beware of this teacher! This is the first time I have ever reviewed a teacher, and felt like future students should know. She is incredibly mean and rude to her students, does not teach at all and has the students teach themselves solely through the book, and bases half the exam off 3 questions. Never in my life have I dealt with such a bad prof.
Professor Taylor can not teach. She goes on and on about her in-person class and it seems she can't even care half as much for her online class. She makes it to where you feel bad for taking online and she claims she "teaches" you but all she does is give you videos and readings. There's no communication at all. Get another teacher who will teach.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS UNDER THIS PROFESSOR. She is a horrible grader, will not explain why she gives you bad grade refuses to grade other assignments. In an entire semester of having her, I have not heard her voice once or even seen what Professor Taylor looks like. She is impossible and enjoys making her student's lives so stressful. DO NOT TAKE.
If you take Dr. Taylor's introduction to psychology course do not expect that it will be easy to earn a good grade. Her classes are lecture heavy, so if you choose to miss any of her classes be prepared to miss crucial information that may show up on one of her exams. In general, Dr.Taylor is rather a strict grader on tests and on assignments.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Very tough grader in an intro psychology class with zero feedback. All the learning is reading a textbook and the questions on tests are subjective and often not in the textbook. She's also quite rude in her announcements, falsely accusing students of cheating. AVOID for your sake!
The other reviews really aren't too far off. The exams/paper are insane and very personal questions are asked. Things such as evaluating your interpersonal relationships will be explored in exams. This really isn't a class for anyone taking psych 1 as a GED. It's 100% a challenging class, don't take if not mentally ready for it.
one of the worst professors i have ever had in my life. she made everything super complicated and her canvas was a mess. wrote so much directions that made no sense and confused everyone. extremely tough grader and her exams on canvas were designed in a way that you could not go back to your questions. save yourself and don't take her.
Useless teacher Simply a money grab
Very tough grader. I had wifi issues for my first test and so I never completed my test. I emailed her multiple times and she never responded. So now even though I am completing all the coursework, that first test was marked as a 0. Considering that this is an online class, she should be more accommodating since we don't see each other in person.
Prof Taylor is definitely not for everyone. Has such a difficult personality sometimes and other times shes great. You have to walk on eggshells around her, how you deal with her will determine your grade. She gave us extra credit and she knows what shes talking about but a harsh grader and you'll want to participate. she may be your only option
One of the worst professors I have ever taken.Typically I do quite well in school, however this class and her teaching style made it incredibly difficult for me to pass her class. She has incredibly long lectures, to which she gets sidetracked and carried away.I suggest not taking her at all, wait if you need to for a better professor, I wish I did.
I do NOT recommend taking this class with her. Her tests are heavy, VERY limited on time, and contain essay questions. If you have any technical difficulties, she doesn't care. I scheduled office hours with her to go over my exam, but she did not show up. Do yourself a favor and don't take her classes. Wish I dropped this class when I could.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Avoid this professor at all costs! An error occured with Proctorio which logged me out and I got no credit for the exam. I contacted her and did not get a response for 2 weeks and she said that I could not resume, retake, or make up the points of the exam. Why does a software issue result in me getting a damaged grade?
She's very kind and funny, but her she doesn't always finish her lectures nd doesn't post them either. The tests are almost completely on the textbook anyways, not the lectures. Be wary of deadlines as she accepts no late work unless there's a serious exception. Nice person, very hard professor!
This professor does the bare minimum when it comes to instructing (no pre-recorded lectures for asynchronous class), and very confusing, convoluted, and typo-ridden assignment instructions. Grading is extremely harsh. Please choose a different instructor if you are at all able.
Some of these reviews are a bit farfetched... if you got a bad grade in the class, it's partially your fault. However, I will say that Dr. Taylor is rather unspecific when asking for things, specifically for the term paper. Tests are pretty difficult (C+ avg for me but so far still have an A), HW cred brings grade up a lot, just don't be lazy.
Taylor was honestly one of the weirdest professors. Her classes were mandatory and the whole class was just a lecture. Although she was kinda humorous, her teaching style was very mid. Instructions for big paper assignments were all over the place and her study guides were kinda useless because she didn't include all material that would be on tests
Tests are pretty hard (never got above a B, but I know other people who did), instructions are crazy unspecific and all over the place for papers/discussion boards (we spent a whole class just asking for clarification on things because her instructions were just simply too confusing). Lectures are mid, attendance matters
most difficult psyc course(others i have taken are 30, 37, 10).have to buy the online interactive textbook because quizzes on the platform are graded. time limit on exams is tight and you cannot go back. settle on answer for mcq quickly because 3 harshly graded frq at the end of exam accounts for majority of exam grade. 24ec pts, 1100pts in class
Basically no way for you to learn everything on the test because it involves material outside of the textbook and everything she provides you.
This professor was so incredibly hard. Working full time and taking this course was impossible.
Mostly lectures, you have to do a lot self studying.
Be aware of this professor; she uses Proctorio, but if something happens with the internet or software and causes the closure of it, you will not be able to finish the exam. She won't give you another opportunity to take the exam again. Most of the questions for the exams are found outside of the textbook, not even on the McMillan Platform.
Does not give any work that helps prepare for exams. Gives lectures every class but goes very fast, once a topic is mentioned she most likely won't review it anymore. Exams are very difficult and she does not give any extra credit. Some exam questions did not match the homework. There is not much help to prepare for exams.
This class was difficult, do a lot of self-studying, helps you if you have questions, and participation is graded. She added a couple of extra grades in at the end which wasn't communicated well. Professor Taylor can rush through slides so make sure to pay attention. Take time to study for this class and you will be successful!
In class if you don't take notes you will just miss the ppt's, her ppt's in the canvas post are completely different than the ones in class. Also the study guide she provides basically doesn't work. The exams are also different from what is taught in class.
Professor Taylor is a good person, and her class was very interesting. However, her class is very tough and rigorous. Just get ready to read the textbook, and ask her a lot of questions regarding the research paper.
The professor is TERRIBLE. She gave us 6-12 hours worth of work almost daily (this was a summer course). We found out she used another outdated textbook to grade and test. There was an emergency where someone couldn't take the exam and the professor never responded and sent a notification saying "no stories". I love psych and I hated every second.
A few things about her is that she does accept criticism after her tests. However, there are pop quizzes which are not graded as quizzes but as participation/attendance for the class. She does have policies whenever you are late for the class bringing food for everyone and/or dancing.
Yemmy Taylor's class is challenging, but using resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook can help you succeed. Attend lectures and stay engaged - participation is graded. Exams are tough, so make sure to study diligently. Overall, it's a rewarding course if you're willing to put in the work.
If you don't like reading the whole 700 pages of textbook, don't take this class, the only things you'll learn is from the textbook. But if you like to read the whole 700 pages of textbook, don't take class, just go buy a textbook, you don't have to spent more dollars only for few exams. Make me wanna see a real psychologist after in this class
Unlike some other professors at IVC, she has near 0 leniency
Take this professor if you want to fail
She awfyl pls never ever takes any of her classes.Every exams have at least 5 chapters with useless study guide.
The concepts are very interested, but it is too many concepts to cover in every chapter. There are at least 6 chapter in every exam, and study guide did not help much at all. Very very very tough grader on exam.
Don't take her class! The PowerPoint in class is never shared with us. In other words, students can't check the info that was left out in class again. The pace of the lecture is very very fast, so it's almost impossible to follow. She clearly sees that many students are taking notes, but she moves on. The study guides for exams are not helpful.
Do not take her online class unless you can memorize a textbook. Test grade relies super heavily on short essay questions at the end of tests. The textbook software required for homework is expensive and buggy. Study guides provided are extremely unhelpful.
so hard to get an A from this course but i did it :0! there are 3 exams online that has about 70 mcqs that worth 70 points only and 3-4 essay questions that worth 110 points or so. the test is graded heavily on essay questions. She's not kind and responsive and THERE IS NO LECTURE VIDEO. NO LECTURE AT ALL. It's self thought class with textbook only
Took her last spring; exams were poorly written and I had to talk to her because she graded mine incorrectly once. Study guides for exams didn't cover all exam material. Guidelines for final paper were somehow both strict and vague at once. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities and is a nice person, but as a professor I can't recommend her.
Professor Taylor is a reasonable person, and I think to succeed in her class is to want to try and understand her expectations. After bombing the first exam, I often reached out and attended office hours to understand her grading. Have a good grasp on applications for all the concepts and you should do fine!
Taylor makes it clear (among very little else) that you should just know some of the material from outside of class. What does that mean? It means your exams will tank by multiple letters since you're graded on concepts *entirely* absent from both the textbooks and study guides (I checked). That's isn't strict, that's insultingly unfair. Avoid.
I didn't do horrible in this class but DO NOT TAKE TWO of her classes at once. I made that mistake and the workload some weeks were actually wild. I had two exams to take on halloween day and then two final papers as well as their corresponding final exams in two days. Not a great overall professor, does not care about emails being sent. Stay away
She never shares the slides used in class. She gave us study guides, but they were not helpful. Many questions on the exam are not from study guides. It is good for you to take another professor's class.
This may perhaps be the teacher of pain, despair, and everything unfair. Feels as if she could care less about her students and getting an A was not easy. The content is all memorization and she doesn't have an ounce of understand or friendliness within her to help you. Pick a different teacher.
This professor I would recommend for everyone to NOT take. Her online courses are very loose as she very honestly doesn't teach. It was quite literally just slides (if she provides any slides). Most of her "teaching" is through macmillan textbook assignments. A majority of her quizzes are on topics not touched on within assignments. Do not take!
Professor assigns you ~10 Video Activities. Even if you learn from the videos, 95% of the stuff you learn wont be on the exam. Her study guides aren't helpful. Your best bet is to memorize every fact from the 700 pg. textbook. No clear rubric for writing assignments so write a lot but not too much or else she wont bother to even read it.
Even though I got almost perfect marks on all of my assignments, your grade will be heavily determined by the free response portion of the exam. However, grading for the free responses has no clear criteria and is very subjective.
Had to switch to pass no pass and girl, I am not passing. Her class is honestly one of the worst displeasures I have ever had endure. Her class isn't taught by her rather its by her textbook. She rarely posted study guides, no actual instruction and her exams often had concepts and questions not taught in the canvas course! Avoid her at all costs!
I recommend choosing a different professor. The grading felt unfair, and despite studying hard and following the guide, the final exam barely reflected what we learned. I put in a lot of effort but still struggled due to unclear expectations and irrelevant test content.
DON'T TAKE
I wouldn't recommend this class unless you're ready to teach yourself EVERYTHING she assigns 10+ videos weekly, quizzes, 2 tough midterms, a final, and a term paper. Study guides don't match the exams. I had a personal emergency and asked for flexibility, but she refused. Her syllabus says, “This is a DRAMA free class. No excuses,” and she means it.
This class was near impossible to pass, she made us have exams constantly and to pass them you had to memorize the entire book. This class was also super sexual we had to memorize explicit sexual activities and Freud's ideas so if your a high schooler or younger DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! (It was disgusting how much she talked about it)
Bad. "No drama will be accepted" - The professor. Do not take any of her class. A 15 page essay is worth only 50-70 point out of a 1000 total points of the class grade. Horrible.
Run while you can. I am in the psychology field already but need the degree to go to the next level. I saw all the bad reviews and thought, "I already know a lot and am a very dedicated student." - I dropped the class once I realized she doesn't actually teach. It's here's the book, figure it out. The tests do NOT match the study material.
I stopped looking when crossing the road because, at least, the tow truck would've been nicer than her. Her exams will have you praying for mercy and wondering what you did in your past life. One discussion paper had to be 3 pages long and was worth 200 POINTS. Run far away. I even had to get a therapist bc of her class. RUN.
Do not take. She doesn't understand how to grade essays due to her own issues with grammar. She sends an unusual amount of messages, all talking about "no drama." Save yourself the anger, take someone else.
Feedback was very vague, changed grading criteria the week of final, doesn't reply to email asking for more feedback or clarification, sends so much automated emails a week thats not useful or helpful. Good class teacher made it unenjoyable
