Has a doctorate in english and knows pretty well, but couldn't teach it as far as she could throw it. Energetic, so you only retain bits and peices of what she says, half the class will not hear the homework assignment and the such. Native chinese who teaches english because chinese was too hard.
My worst english teacher. If u want a teacher who talks forever and cant answer ur questions, She's ur match. Speaks so fast that she cant stop for your questions. But why bother ask her a question when u kno u wont be able to understand her answer?
They chould call her class chineglish for beginners. She has a doctorite in writting in english. But can't seem to master the Language Horrible teacher if you can self teach yourself might as well do it saves you money " you get my Point!"

I wish i knew about this website last semester, then i wouldnt have made the mistake of taking this class. She is crazy, and will fail you if you miss more than 6 classes. Her English sucks, and all assignments are very unclear. STAY AWAY!!
Who would have ever thought a Chinese lady would teach a college level English class. The first day of class she was writing in Chinese so I thought I was in the wrong class.She is really hyper and you don't want to get too close to her to ask her questions, she really smells bad.

Hi guys, don't ever make a blunder by taking her English class. Although, she has a Phd in English and has a sound knowledge but her teaching is the worst i have ever experienced. She is so confusing when it comes to doing assignments, and I really din't undersatnd what she was expecting.
these other post are retards. yes she is very fob and talks and talks and her voice becomes annoying. but she was EASY. do your little 2 page papers (double spaced) and let her change them any way she wants. turn it in after shes looked at it and your will get an A.
TOTAL FOB. She took us to the library once and it was the most worthless hour of my life. She can't pronounce her R's, L's, or any other letter of the alphabet pretty much. Also she takes attendance at the end of class. Worst idea ever.

This teacher is so retarded!!! But the only thing is she grades really easy, as long as your in class & u do the work even if u do poorly on them she will give u an A, for trying. But yea really don't understand what she's saying.
this is probably one of the worst teachers i have ever seen. she doesnt know how to speak english but yet she teaches english 111, i cant understand a word she says and she will fail you if you miss just a couple of days. /
like the other guy said she will fail you if you have a few absents... plus you cant even understand her...but her grading on papers is great... i got an A' in all my papers before she failed me for my absents.
This lady is terrible. Not only can you not understand what shes saying ever but what she teaches is so irrelavant and stupid. she pretty stupid actually. if u miss class or are even a minute late a few times you'll probably fail. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!
Brooke was a good person but a bad teacher. I got into a few arguements with her and she told me that in china they slap students (no joke) besides the fact, the main problem i had was attendance which is retarted cause she will fail you- otherwise the papers were pretty easy and she really cannot speak english very well
She is difficult to understand, but very smart and nice.If you don't understand something, ask her as many times as is neccessary to get clarification.That's what I did. I would take her again.
She is an ok teacher, but I can't believe that the English department would hire someone to teach an English class who really can't speak English very well. She is confusing and does not understand American culture very well. If she does not like American students, then she should go home! or maybe find another kind of work.
She is a very unique teacher, if you are a responsible person, "come to class on time, do your work, turn in short essays" and have the strength to handle her lectures, then I highly reccomend her.
I got an A in this class because I put forth a bit of effort. I did argue with her about class and material. She always says "SEE MY POINT" and people nod their heads so she'll shut up. she's annoying and her teaching style is really bad.Takes roll at the end of class and its graded.She is a nice person though

I'm the master of understanding broken English....I'm still lost in this class. Treats us like we're in high school by taking attendance and failing you after 2 absences. Incredibly boring, but she grades pretty easily. I got an A so maybe I shouldn't be complaining too much, whatever. Oh and I agree with whoever said she smells.
I took her for 112 last year. It is true that she is difficult to understand- 6 people dropped the class after 2 weeks of trying to understand what was going on. But if you stick with her, she grows on you. She grades the papers leniently, and they were all 2-3 pages. There is not much reading either. I liked her by the midway point of the course.
Not helpfull at all or caring, she doesnt care if you are doing bad or you dont get anything. Very Hard to approach for help. In fact she responds to ppl she likes to deal with. I remember once in her class i raised my hand 3 times to ask a question but guess what she totally ignored me. I don't recommend her.

do yourself a favor and stay off from this woman. her teaching style is extremely difficult to understand and NOT FLEXIBLE with grades at all!!! come on, this is a community college she's teaching at, not Harvard! i had zero absence, zero tardy, all A's in all 4 papers, but received a B as final grade because my grade averaged out to be 89. NO GOOD

I would stay away from her if I were you! Sometimes you wouldn't even know if you're sitting in an English class or Chinese class. Her heavy Chinese accent is very difficult to understand and she is also a very tough grader. She thinks that some students are just not meant to receive an A because they're just not good writers.NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL

An uphill jog in heavy snow. No matter how hard you push yourself, her grading will push you back. Come in 2 minutes late and you'll lose all quiz points for the day. Class was more difficult than it should be

I took her ENG 111-09 and 112 course. You def. have to get used to her accent. She knows a lot though and wants to teach it to her students. Do what she asks for, come to class on time and show some effort in your papers. She appreciates if you ask for advice. It is not an easy class to get an A but you can get a B with fairly little effort.

When I entered this class I thought that I was a good writer. When I left this class I knew that I was a good writer. Professor He is there to teach anyone that WANTS to learn. She is more than helpful when needed. For those that are in NOVA to actually learn, and not just "get by", I fully recommend this professor. Very enjoyable class.
This teacher is really hard and very picky on papers. You can't get good grade in her class. You need to be on time for everything and attendance is mandatory. Dont take her if you want good a grade.

This class had to have been my worst experiance for me since I've entered nova..Could barely understand the teacher, when ever I asked questions, she would answer very unclearly..constantly gets off topic, isn't respectful at all..overall is just a bad teacher, better off waiting another semester then being stuck in this class
Worst professor I ever had at NOVA. Highly regret taking her class. Her lectures are never clear and contradicts herself when grading essays. Not helpful at all when you ask for help and constantly tries to push her ideas on you. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!!
Good teacher, knows a lot about topic. It's not a class to take lightly. Not hard to understand if u really pay attention, interesting comparisons to China. Easy to get an A if you just do what u have to-u don't have to take the final if ur absent less then three days
NIGHTMARE TEACHER!!!!! Doesn't speak good English, doesn't provide feedback on papers, likes to do pop quizes. Seems to enjoy playing gotcha educational games. HORRIBLE!!!!
Dr. He is a excellent professor. She knows lot about what she is teaching. She is very helpful if you go to her office and ask for help. You have to work hard because she likes hardworking students. As long as you do all the work and read the signed text you will be fine.

She is an intelligent lady, but not a very good teacher. She is very strict with absenses and tardies. 4= a failing grade. If you get less than 3 than you get an A on the final. Gives good feedback. You will improve as a writer. Hard to understand at times. Her quizzes are difficult.
Heavy accent, reading quizzes every class meeting, dosen't realize that she embarasses students when calling them out in front of everyone, when it comes to essays send essays to her and back and you will get the grade.Two OR MORE missed classes mean you will have to take final exam. ATTEND EVERY CLASS take her if you can stand teachers like her.

Dr.He is definitely not to be taken lightly, shes very passionate about what she teaches and her profession. At times it might seem like she's too over the top but you Lear a lot and helps you see what professors will look for when reading. She's a really good professor but only if your there to learn and not play around .
Although she is a tough professor if you don't take the class seriously, this class helped me immensely with my writing and composition skills. I learned so much from this teacher and this class. She is one of the best professors I have had a NOVA. She is picky about attendance and doing your assignments but she is very helpful if you ask and nice.
Dr.He was my first non-american English teacher. I have the most respect for her as a human being. She keeps an interesting class, yet grades harshly. Even though her class isn't easy, it might be for the better to those of you who will go to a four year university.
As long as you keep up with the readings and engage in the peer review you will do fine. Her accent can be hard to understand, but when you ask for help she is more than willing to assist. Be sure to be in class because she uses reading quizzes to take attendance, as long as you do the reading you will be fine.
Dr. He requires heavy reading so make sure to get the book at the beginning of the semester. We had to complete 4 essays throughout the semester. Her lectures are very entertaining but she goes pretty fast so full attention is always required. She teaches you how to write. This was a hard class but she's very easy on grading.
The absolute best instructor for this class, I commend her for her vast knowledge and coursework that was focused around Southeast Asia, a region I knew nothing about prior to her class. I am a better writer and student because of her. If you are looking to get your money's worth and not slack off, taker her class! You will not regret it.

I was debating whether or not to drop her class because she grades pretty harsh, but easy at the same time. How? Well grades are basically based on your essays which are out of 10 pts. Which can be good or bad, 510 not so good. 7.510 is ok. So always make sure you do your absolute best on each essay. You'll learn a whole lot about southeast asia
Dr. He is really an amazing professor. Its sounds like everyone else here is just looking for an easy grade. She is definitely a challenge, so if you don't like working for your grade stay away. If you pay attention though, and work hard it will pay off. Her lit class was absolutely fascinating.
Gives great feedback, to the point that if you listen to her notes on a rough draft you will get an A. I took her for Eng 112 and Eng 241, I took 241 Lit even though I didn't require it for my major because she was so helpful the first time. I got an A in both. Listen in class, show up, and ask for help. She has an accent but you're mature enough.
I wouldn't recommend taking her if you are a lazy student. Expect A LOT of hw. Essays are what make up most of your grade (you write 4) 10 points each, 4th paper is group . The only good things are no quizzes and if you miss 2 classes or less and turn in all of your assignments you don't have to take the final, but BEWARE she is a tough grader.
Even though she is tough grader, if you put in the work and really pay attention you will see a difference in your writing before taking her class and after.
Very confusing teacher. I found it often to be a mystery of what she required for various assignments and papers. Ask her to explain herself and you'll just get a nonsensical response and anger from her. Her guidelines are generally simpler than she makes them out to be so give her assignments your best shot and you'll do well. But expect confusion
Dr. He is the most exceptional professor I have had the pleasure of being taught by. Her classes are not only interesting, she helped my writing get so much better. It is truly incredible how quickly she returns graded work and answers emails, her students and their success is extremely important to her. I highly recommend Dr. He.
Listening to her lecture is stressful. She doesn't speak full sentences. Her have very vague instructions. Never good enough. Our first essay was on a 9 page introduction (ab the author and why shes writing the book) to a book about the culture differences of the East and West. Very rude and interrupts while answering her questions. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I put in the work. I got an A. I am definitely a stronger writer now. However, VERY stressful. Material isn't hard, but her teaching style was rough. All were afraid to speak up during discussions because she shamed you if you misspoke/answered wrong. Her explanations were confusing/unhelpful. Only plus: very attentive during one-on-one meetings.
Prof. He is a good professor. Do each assignment and participate and you will succeed. I should mention that she can be hard to understand with her instructions but I enjoyed the challenge of trying to get a good grade. There are probably easier ENG 112 classes offered but this one isn't that bad.
Professor He is one of the professors that will be happy if you put in what she is looking for when you do assignments. Make sure to clarify on any you are uncertain on. She isn't the most accessible, but her class isn't that hard.
TBH it is tedious class . teacher not clear on what is wanted on tests, assignments, exams. She will not help and not answer questions. Very disorganized. Talks about her own life which has nothing to do with course. Not tech savvy. Canvas not set up to show due dates and grades. Tough grader. No office hours. Stay awayyyy!
