very hard. Told class didn't care if 99% failed.
This man has no heart, I repeat, no heart whatsoever.
smart, but can't break down things to a simpler form.
inadequate as an instructor
impossible to learn from
terrible,bad
his tests are all derieving formulas and non-numerical. Internet quiz
Absolutely horrible.
brilliant but cannot, i repeat cannot teach
he is the worst prof ever
Someone needs to find him a new job
Proof that not everyone should try teaching...
Smart man, but that Ph. D. obviously didn't come with teaching skills.
It sucks that he is the only physics 2 teacher here
told my class that if you didnt make a 70 on the first test to go home
He is a sexy guy
this class is so easy, Aktas is the man, dont have to go to class to make an A
Terrible Terrible Terrible, and um...Terrible
Work!! 40 points on exam is great job!!! Fail, though.
Word of advice, take class at other university and transfer credit, only phys 2
Class avg.=75...And he is proud of us? Best class avg. in 9 yrs? It ain
Avoid like the plauge
He is brillient, but hard. Unless your a moron, you will learn alot.
This is one sexy guy. His class is a breeze and he is very easy to understand!
Turned me off to anything dealing w/ electricity. Take this one over the summer
He doesnt care how well you do. Thank God CE's only need a D Ill still struggle
If you enjoy getting told that you are going to fail take this. If not avoid it.
he start, but does not care if you understand or not
Do the homework, the test are all things that you have seen at least once before
The weedout out man for UNCC, brilliant, arrogant, excessive material for 16 wee
take cpcc in summer, hard to get trasent study but worth it

Worst teacher at UNCC

genious but hard, if you are lazy you WILL fail
No Comments
a must take, easiest class by far
evil man,HARD class,very important material,if u try u pass else u WILL fail
He's not in sync with academia. But great course.
not helpful..hard..don't take it
Make the class harder then it is. Get urself a study group and do the hw.
Good Teacher, Laziness will fail you
Dude is awesome, knows his stuff like the back of his hand. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN a lot, take this class, it NEEDS A LOT OF WORK. WORK HARD AND GET A . Very Smart Man
Focus, do all the work, be ready to learn. Very accessible. Very smart!
All you need to do is study and work your ass off and you should do fine. Don't listen to the whinning of other students. He is a good teacher.
Easily one of the smartest men alive. However, he is a beast. Every day is casual Friday. Very laidback, just dont walk in late or he will stare you down until your flesh burns. Overall he is a cool guy.
easiest course to fail even you study. don't just study, but study HARD! Understand all of what he covers during the class.
The material is hard, but if you go to class and do the assigned homework, you shouldn't have any problems. Don't listen to what you hear about him, he is a good professor.
Hard material but he is very understanding and will try everything to help you get it. don't listen to others, take this guy.
One of the hardest teachers around. You must study, study and study somemore to pass. You will learn a lot.
The class was hard because the material was difficult. The exams were all examples taken straight from the book. Some even done in class. He gave a huge curve at the end and if you try hard and do homeworks, he'll take care of you in the end (your grade)
I enjoyed Prof. Aktas and would probably take him for the next semester of Physics.
very hard class, but a good teacher. knows what hes talkin about. Do your homework and study alot, to make a good grade. Study your homework and notes for test. Class itself is hard, not the teacher
Very intelligent professor. Knows his stuff top to bottom. The class is five times harder if you don't do the homework; but if you do the homework and study, you can pull off an A. The class was hard, but Aktas was the coolest.
Terrible teacher, boring, rambles on, knows his stuff and will answer questions, but his tests are too hard and he will put an insomniac in a coma.
He used to be a lot harder... so take advantage before he changes his mind again!!!!

tough teacher..but if you do your homework you will make an A or B...he takes test questions straight from the homework...so study your homework for the test!!
go to class, don't talk, do the homework, go to the SI sessions and you're guaranteed a B
good teacher who gives good tests and grades fairly. the material is hard, but aktas is a good teacher. everybody else is just mad bc they got bad grades from not putting in the effort to get an A
Awesome teacher if you actually try!! He is a little cruel but he knows what he is doing and he will explain it many many times.... Might snap though. Good teacher, definatly helps you understand the stuff from Physics one if you had a bad teacher...
Seems evil, but isn't. Work really hard and know your integrals! Algebra, geometry and trig are very important to simplifying problems. Variables stay variables, so don't expect numbers. Tests/quizzes from homework, so do it... thrice! -> Get A or B
No Comments
Took the summer course, got an A. Wasn't easy. The difficulty lies in the subject matter. No prof can make hard science easy. Study the homework problems, be ready for the quizzes, know your integrals, argue every point on the tests, and you'll do well.
Very good teacher. His class is extremely hard, but he's fair and you'll learn the material.
Class is extremely hard avoid this teacher if at all possible!!!!
very boring-- monotone voice makes you go to sleep. has a stong accent and very bad handwriting, always goes back and changes stuff. Tests aren't that bad- but questions are unlike the ones he does in class. Try to take someone else if you can
Monotone. Goes off on his own. Not a good teacher. Avoid if possible. Take simpson.
Over complicates everything, as well as does not go over anything that is on his tests
Aktas' class is a really bad. This is indeed a hard subject but Aktas is mean and treats everyone mean. Hes not that good a teacher. There's nothing postive about taking him as a teacher. It's possible to pass; even get an A, but its not easy. I don't think hes a fun teacher. bad grammar and humor
No Comments
The subject is hard to begin with, but Aktas takes pleasure in making it more difficult. You can make an A or B if you only work on stuff for his class the whole semester. His tests are very difficult and rarely involve numbers. Everything for his class is symbolic.
Atkas sucks. I enrolled in his course 3yrs ago and still feel the reprecussions. He's a GPA leech and drinks the blood of babies. He also steals their candy and brains. Eat it Osh-Kosh-Ba-Gosh!
There's a difference between deriving a page long equation and teaching something so you understand it. This point is lost on Aktas. A smart guy, but very full of himself. Expects you to know a lot of stuff you never had to before. Avoid if possible.
Subject matter is really hard, teacher is too. However, if you can dedicate your time to this class first, then you have a fighting chance. If your not gifted, or born with physics in your head, then you MUST do EVERY homework problem just to get a C.
This man is heartless. I spent the beginning of the semester nursing my MOTHER who was DYING of cancer. When I asked for more time with homework and exams (two days after my mother died) he told me I needed to get priorities straight and there would be no make up work or exams!!! The man is EVIL!
he is a cunning and a terrible teacher. don't know why he teaches this course, and i will surely talk to the head of this department. can phys department find another instructor who will be nice, helpful and predictable?!
horrilbe....told half of our class to end their existance....what kind of teacher is that....can't teach to save his life....but is awesome at making u feel stupid...heck he will tell u at ur face that "ur stupid and u don't know anything"....i wouldn't even tell my enemies to take his class.
Run for your life, this man is a waste of carbon. I had physics in HS, and still know it. If i did not have my old notebook, i would have failed. Tests are nothing like notes, the man is very rude and arrogant, and he is just...confusing! I got an A in the class, but only b/c I saved my HS notes!
This man is horrible! He is insensitive to the students and is a horrible teacher. Unorganized! He even lost one of my tests! His handwriting is awful too so its almost impossible to take notes. I was so thankful for the C I got just so I wouldnt have to sit through this class again!
Dr. Aktas is a really bad teacher. He is inconsiderate to his students. He also can't speek english very well and can't write. This makes the class even harder. Do not take this course with Aktas. He will only make you fail
The material for the class is really hard. He can be unclear and confusing during class, but he provides a good amount of office hours. If you see him during these hours, he is very helpful. Most do not like his classes, but he gives grades to what you earn, and some effort can go a long way.
Worst then MELTON!! (if you don't know what I am talking about just look at MELTON's rating) Aktas is rude, can't speak english, can't write clearly, and worst of all he DOESN'T believe in PARTIAL CREDIT!! if you miss one little part of a LONG ass Calculus problem, you automatically get a F! AVIOD!
Awsome teacher, very clear, always on time, gives alot of partial credit, makes you feel smart, always dresses nice, smells great and his accent is very nice! take him if you want a nice grade with a nice teacher, he will make you feel great about taking physics.

He seems to hate teaching and hates his students. Doesn't like to answer questions. This man doesn't enjoy his job. He hates students and has forgotten that they pay his salary.
Ye just like the others say he sux. He doesn;t help out if u have missed class for a legitimate reason ie. surgery and wont let u make up stuff. He doesn;t give partial credit and grades very harshley.......he sux
extremely hard class and he doesn't help. hard to understand and goes very quickly over material. take another if you can
Extreemly hard class, only take this class if u can devote all your energy to it. Hard Tests, Doesn't explain or help. My advise, if u take this class, skip all classes except tests, and teach yourself
Aktas is a fantastic professor, he knows the material inside and out and can explain it VERY well. You have only to ask in class or see him in his office and he's more than happy to help. Yes, it's a tough class, and you have to work hard. DUH. I guarantee that the people that hate him failed.
Although Dr. Aktas is intelligent, he has no idea how to teach. His tests are exactly what the homework problems are, however it is impossible to learn how to do a problem from his lecture. He does no problems in class and therefor you have no idea how to apply the concepts from lecture.
he is smart. very smart. comes 2 class w/o any notes. just brings his brain. very interesting material. test are directly from notes. except 1/2 ?s in entire semester. he wont teach u how 2 do integrations. LEARN THEM BEFORE CLASS. and beaware of mastering physics. i hated it w/ passion. loved the class and lecture.
This was by far the worst teacher that I have had. Always forgets what he wrote at the beginning of class and was never helpful with questions. Always preferred helping out with the ladies but was very rude towards guys. Avoid at all costs.
Got stuck with no choice to take, but avoid at all costs, confronted with problem of no application of formulas in class and he questions my efforts to succeed. I spent hours at a time working on his assignments and still don't succeed at them, complete jerk. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
Horrible teacher, avoid at all costs, seems everyone cept people who are already experienced in this stuff are doomed to fail. His explainations are extremely vague and he is the most unhelpful teacher I've ever come across. If you ask a question, he is rude and just says study more. Athough he is extremely smart, his ego is bigger than his brain.
Avoid at all crazy cost.............
avoid this man. although he knows his stuff, he doesnt know how to teach it. He grades the tests like a nazi. All his tests and examples are in symbolic form. If you ask him what chapter a subject is on, he wouldnt know the answer
AVOID AT ALL COSTS Everybody is totally lost in there, he puts NO numbers in anything, it's all symbols and letters.Doesn't teach how we can apply this anywhere. If you can't take anyone else, just wait till next semester, cuz there's no point it messing up your GPA with this guy. I made that mistake, and i was forewarned as well, but had no choice
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. If his class does bad he tells them they are terrible and don't try, and that no one could teach better than he is. And near the end of the semester, almost any question you ask for help on he says:"I shouldn't have to tell you this, if you'd try harder you would know." He's smart but as a teacher he sucks and is a jerk.
Yeah, the class is hard and requires you to put in 5-10+ hours a week no matter who teaches; his office is always open, and SI sessions for this class are plentiful. Go to SI, get help there and re-work the problems a few times, (try to understand it too). His exams are straight from his homework and notes. Sometimes he won't changes the numbers

Hardest class I've ever had by a large margin. However, I did learn a lot, and squeezed by with a B. Aktas is very very demanding, and expects his students to be extremely studious and hard working. Tests are just like the notes and homework, but they're still really tough. He's very friendly and helpful for office hours, and always means well.
Still confused about how this class will assist me later, but this guy was the worst professor I have had at UNCC. I will not ever take another class he teaches, took one test that I knew what I was doing and made a 50, asked what I did wrong, and he said I didn't study enough, yet mine looked like his, avoid, if no choice, then wait for a semester
If you can work the assigned homework problems without refering to your notes or textbook you can make an A on the test. All he requires is that you know the material and know it well. He is an intimadating man and I believe he likes the fact that he is unliked. So so feelings about his class.
I was going to give him a chance. But strike one was the first day of class when he told the class that everything we'd heard about him was wrong. Today, he was on the verge of yelling at us that he expected answers. I can see this guy going Hitler on us as the semester progresses. Almost tries to make things hard to understand. I'm done with him.
hard class, be ready to work you ass off. he is one of the teacher who knows what he's talking about.is helpful,go see him during office hrs.use ur notes as much as possible, do homework problem and u'll pass the class with a decent grade.
This is a very hard class, know how to do the old tests on his website, notes, and homework. This is a near impossible class to take over the summer. The only way to pass is to do the work. Dont listen to the ones who give bad reviews.
he knows what he is talking about, but cannot teach it. it seems like he tries to make the problems harder than they really are. does not give equations for quizzes (how do you work a problem without an equation??) and only gives most, not all equations on the test. take astrotov
Honestly think that good ratings were an attempt to repair image, must have been secret notes on the back of exams. Seriously he is obviously brilliant but extremely condesending and judgemental, and no im not a business major, Bio/chem double major tnk u. A professor should not harbour a preemptive disdain for his students.
doesn't give good examples of problems
yeah, you're going to fail this class. we all did.
Do not take Aktas unless you are either a EE or Physics major. He makes this class extremly hard. The avg. grade on the first test was a 44 ( that is out of a hundred).
this is the first class that i have failed in all my years of education (GPA 3.0). I would estimate that over half the class failed. The man is smart, but he is trying to throw fastballs in little league. the homework and quizzes are easy, but the tests are next to impossible for the average student.
My brother is smart as hell and had trouble in this class. I plain failed this class. Let's just say you have a 99% chance of failing. If you don't take him, you'll end up taking his exams anyways since the exams are becoming common exams (and this professor makes them). Good luck!
Took 2102 online and passed with C :), Very hard subject, but the online lectures were really helpful and clear, Tests were difficult because u need to have a complete underestanding of the subject to reason out the problems with the principals learned. Dont take this class if u have 4 other classes and 2 labs, b/c u need to spend time on this.
I really hate this guy! I took astratov's class after I failed this one and now they are doing a stupid common exam which it seems like Aktas is grading. there is no escape!! So now your basically screwed whichever section you take. He is also rude and this class is impossible. If I fail again this semester I'm switching majors.
Take Astrotov. Period. Aktas is definitely not a good guy to take. Wait another semester to take Physics II with Astratov if you need to. Unfortunately, physics and electrical engineering students- you'll probably have to take Aktas. Avoid if possible.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had, and I've taken classes at 4 different universities. Classes are boring and very slow. Don't buy the book, he says it sucks and doesn't use it. All he does is calculus derivations. He teaches you how to derive formulas someone else already did so you can use. Take this class at another university.
HE IS ALOT EASIER THAN DR. LEIBODY (TRUST ME!!!).Overall he is a good professor, but i still don't like him. I think alot of people go to class and expect a good grade but it's not that simple. He gives great notes and this is comming from a guy who never took physics before comming to UNCC and geometry was the highest math i completed in h.s.
Took online class. Online lectures were fairly straight forward.
He takes no intrest in answering student questions
Easy teacher, I didn't even go to class and got an A. Just study all his past exams (which can be difficult because they aren't worked out..) but if you can figure them out, it should be an easy A
Took the summer course and about 95% of the class failed the first exam. He hates when you ask questions, but likes it when you correct him. Practice the past exams because he reuses some of the problems and try to do really well on Webassign homework.
Took the second summer session, did not seem difficult until the first test, needless to say failed the first test. Second test is much the same but as long as you are prepared you should do fine, All the test problems are formulas that you derive. The final is slightly easier but the electromagnetic fields were the hardest part of this course.
I took the spring online course, and I'm still waiting to use the book. I was given a "D" final grade, but I'm still waiting for my final exam grade, which nobody seems to want to cooperate. It's basically the same story as Physics 1: you'll likely fail the first try.
I took this class this summer and thankfully passed with a C. If you have a choice don't take this over the summmer unless you want to study 5-6 hours everyday. He will not help you and he will not give a curve. So don't count on a curve
This teacher is the one of the worst teachers at UNC Charlotte. The only one that is worse, is Leilabady. So, needless to say, Physics 2 is a nightmare being that the only two teachers available are Aktas and Leilabady. Have fun future students....
HARD Class. Be prepared to study a lot, especially if you take this during the summer. Aktas is helpful, straightforward, and very fair. Tests are all Calculus derivations of electric and magnetic fields etc. Pretty difficult but nothing you will not have seen. Final is a kicker and is straight from the book, so do the HW. You will have to WORK.
This is not a nice man. He is condescending, judgemental, impossible to communicate with. Returns email but rarely with an answer to the question. His lectures are dry, boring and seem to have little to do with test material. I stopped going and learned by myself from the text book. I got a B. I suggest taking the class with Leilabody instead.
Lectures are useless. All he does is work problems and do derivations (Which you can hardly understand him anyway). If you are lucky, you get a good TA for problem solving and they can actually go over the problems and clear things up. For everything else though, you're pretty much on your own.
Very difficult class. Most people fail, but since we averaged a lecture attendance of 11 students out of 100, that is not a surprise. If you go to class and problem solving sessions you will pass. Good teacher and he answers any questions students have during class! he even has very helpful online videos. The final, however, is extremely hard!
Forget going to lecture. Read and understand the book, which is very good; all your tests and online homework are based off of material from it. Lectures are virtually useless, his online videos are decent, and problem solving is where you'll learn the most. This class is about survival. Form a regular study group or the final will kill you.
Without a doubt one of the worst professors I have ever had. Never responds to emails, and is not willing to work with you in anyway shape or form.
Worst professor I have ever had period. Lecture is awful. No one even goes. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Aktas has been teaching Physics 2 for far too long. I wouldn't be surprised if he has been for 30+ years. He lacks any enthusiasm to teach and his class is extremely hard. Homework involves watching many hours of prerecorded lectures (8h+ one week) along with online questions. Many cheat, avoid if possible but Aktas writes the shared final.
Didn't respond to e-mails, hard class to follow and wasn't clear on material. Avoid and try to take someone else.
This is undoubtably the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are dull and will leave you sitting in class full of boredom. A lot of his lectures are calculus derivations. My advice? Go to the problem sessions; those are worth 50% of your grade and you will learn a lot more from your TA. Also, Josh is an excellent TA!
We literally have 3 tests in the semester and that's what you're graded upon. Good luck passing this course especially with a professor like him. All he does is derive the formula and do a problem that is totally irreverent towards the tests. Avoid if possible!
Does nothing to make the class interesting, or more helpful. Once class starts its a lecture straight to the end. I've had this course with another professor who did a much better job, and actively tried to engage students and did his best to make sure they understood. Halfway trough the course most students stopped coming to class
Arguably the worst teacher at UNCC. I took Dr. Yawo for network theory (Dr. Yawo is amazing at teaching and loves and cares about his students) and Dr. Yawo taught me everything about physics 2 in network It's a shame they don't suggest taking Network 1 before physics 2. It would help a lot IMO
Going to class is nearly pointless. He messes up nearly all of his example problems making it difficult to take notes. He does not give tests back and threatened to take points off of tests if you wanted to review your test and there wasn't a grading mistake. Said there would be no friction problems on test 1, then gave us a test with half friction
He is a solid choice if you want a teacher to explain the underlying concepts of physics. Derived equations often which allowed me to understand what the equation means and how to transform it. Gives a few helpful examples but the best physics examples come from expert ta. Tests are not hard at all if you know what you are doing.
You're better off learning everything on your own such as looking at the class notes and the online lectures. I don't know why Aktas is still at UNCC but he needs to be fired. He confuses the whole class and constantly makes mistakes. He has lost all credibility according to me and a ton of other students. His lectures are pointless and boring too.
Hes absolutely awful. Avoid at all costs. Stuff you learn in his online videos are quite confusing when you try to apply it to the homework and the tests. Better if you rely on the textbook, but be warned: the book may not be reliable on his tests either.
Dr. Aktas is honestly one of the worst professors I have ever been taught by. The way he teaches is not helpful, and it is difficult to understand what he is even trying to teach. Physics is already a difficult subject, so when you include a professor that is boring, irritating, and a tough grader, it makes the class almost impossible to pass.
This was definitely not an easy class, but it's the material that makes it hard, not Aktas. He has lecture videos online solving every type of problem you'll need, and the tests are similar to textbook problems and his examples. Go to class, listen, take notes, and do practice problems outside of class. Lastly, try to understand, not just memorize.
Dr. Aktas is a decent lecturer, when it comes to exams, please study the example problems inside and out. There have been cases where students don't show up to class and miss quizzes. Show up to class and also know your proofs. His favorite example problems are proofs. Know that what most of what you will learn comes from example problems.
Expect 4-5 one-question quizzes and 2-3 Exams + a Final to make up your entire grade. Questions are nearly identical to assigned homework problems. Lecture is disorganized and generally unhelpful. Attend just enough to know when the next quiz will be, and show up for that. Otherwise, focus on homework. He posts lectures online. Slow to email.
Dr. Aktas knows his stuff. Lectures typically consist of proofs and practically no worked problems. If you consider not going to class, at least just go and listen. Gives multiple one question quizzes throughout the semester as listed on the syllabus. Quizzes and tests come straight off the homework. Seemed generous w/ grading all things considered
Dr. Aktas is a professor who will not teach you if you do not understand the material. Do not take his class, I have a 3.8 GPA and have not been able to pass either of the exams we have taken. He is difficult to understand and doesn't actually teach his class. If you have him for physics 2 you will teach yourself.
Lectures will bore you to death with proofs instead of actually learning the material needed to pass. He can never be reached outside of class, he answers at most half of his emails. When we had to transition to online classes he was non existent until test day. One of the worst professors I've ever had. Don't take him at all. It's not worth it.
The man does not teach physics, he just shows you how equations are derived and encourages you to "read your textbook," then gives tests which make up 90% of your grade where you mostly just do math. Gives ludicrous amounts of partial credit though.
He is very disappointing. I don't understand how I went from a B in Physics 1 to a fail in his class. He doesn't do test reviews because "he doesn't have time". He goes over derivations of equations rather than actual test material. In fact, his tests also deviate from his lectures. I agree with other poor ratings. How can you have a 3.8 and fail??
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. Avoid at all costs!!! I'm on track to fail his class and will be taking physics II elsewhere!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He is very condescending when you ask questions and claims to be accessible outside of class but never responds to emails. He is not understanding and does not seem to care about his students at all. The average for all 3 exams was a D and he claims that we did very well. If I could give him 0 stars I would.
Try not to take his class. Boring. I learned more from the book then from the lectures. Tests were more from the end of chapter problems. The test average in my section was a C. He says we did very well? How, if the average in class is a C?
Took his class during the summer, worst experience. Taught my self via youtube and Khan Academy. His online lectures were hard to follow, there was no partial credit unless you beg his TA's for partial credit. But in the end, there was a curve.
Now, I did fine with the material, I got almost a 100 in the lab and went to the in-person lectures daily and enjoyed the material. The thing is that the overall grade is determined by 30 questions on 4 tests. The class average was 58% but he said he has multiple good grades. I barely got a C. Take if you're good with fast classes with no homework.
You may get a small curve at the end of the class (2% for me) but this class is very challenging and if you take it asynchronously over the summer with the 2013 vimeo videos good luck.
I've had Dr. Aktas for several semesters. I would not deign to say that he is a bad professor, not malicious or unfair, and he will give a good amount of partial credit. However, I just find his instruction style to be, uninteresting at best. Most of the learning I got from the classes was that which I did on my own.
Took this class asynchronously over summer. Learning was ridiculously hard, and I ended up doing most of the learning myself. The videos are pretty uninteresting and not very engaging, and there were LOADS of homework, which was pretty stressful. The partial credit process for tests was also rather unnecessary.
One of the most pee pee bedsheets courses I've taken. Miserable during exams, when doing HW, and when thinking about the class. Exams are 4 or 5 questions and be prepared to receive a D if you dont write the equations and drawings exactly how baby daddy Aktas wants them. This class is balls
Finally, it's time to shine on rating this prof/class. I took more than one class with him this semester (no other choice). Trust me, you will fail his classes. Classes are soul-sucking beyond your imagination. There are no assigned books, and his notes are useless. Don't think you're smart, you got it. You will get SMOKED.
Worse teacher I have ever had in my entire life, 80-90% of his students are failing. The class average on the 3 midterms are 60%, 55%, and 53% respectively.
Take this class anywhere but at UNCC if you can. Aktas only derives formulas in his lectures and you'll be left trying to understand how to solve problems afterwards. Exams were 60% and the final was 30%. No curves on your exams either so if you mess up on the first one you're probably screwed. His only saving grace is he uses a 12 point scale.
Aktas' PHY2102 class is notoriously challenging. Exams are tough with little partial credit, and his teaching style can be hit-or-miss. But Unstuck ai's practice tools helped me stay on top of the material and ultimately earn a decent grade. Not the easiest class, but manageable if you're willing to put in the work.
I think the ratings are a bit harsh, he is okay as a professor. His lectures can be confusing but his TA's in recitation were incredible. He curved a bit at the end and offered opportunities for extra credit. Grading is very clear and partial credit is given on exams.
Professor Aktas is a knowledgeable teacher and knows the subject very well. In my opinion the teaching could be made easier to understand. Learning outside of class was the key to succeeding and the TA recitations were a must attend. I do not think this is a bad class but it is taught at a higher level of difficulty than it needs to be.
Unless you're very familiar with the content Dr. Aktas covers in class, his lectures are extremely hard to follow. He often makes mistakes during his derivations that go unnoticed, and he does not post any of his class notes online. To pass this class, study the homework and answer keys religiously. Expect a letter grade curve to your final grade.
It was impossible to understand what this professor was saying and writing. He doesn't give examples, only goes over the theory and proofs while hardly explaining anything. There were 2 tests and a final, which were 90% of our grade overall. I had to teach myself everything and even then, I barely passed. I ended with a 75% that got counted as a B.
90% of your grade will be two tests and the final, the other 10% is weekly homework that takes hours every week to complete. All of his lectures explain the concepts behind everything, but he never really touches on how to apply those concepts to the problems he assigns. Be ready to have to teach yourself the whole course.
I think that he know the topic very well but as far as teaching, he goes over more of the theory than the practical application for the homework and exams. Doesn't help that the final grade is composed of 90% tests
Watch the lecture videos, and understand the theory and you will be just fine. Other professors are the same but he makes the videos and he is a very nice man
very condescending. lectures are incredibly boring and hard to absorb anything from. he just sits and derives expressions. no intro to the new material, just straight in without explaining what anything means.
He frequently messes up on problems in lectures. You genuinely have no idea if you are solving things correctly, and neither does he. Solved exam reviews were consistently wrong and conflicted with other ones that the TAs did. To sum things up: 90% of our grade is on content he can't even get right. Just No! Don't take it at UNCC! Worst Prof. here.
Easy class just look at practice problems before exam, if you can't do that I'm sorry
Dr. Aktas is a mediocre lecturer at best. He makes interesting topics boring and he skims over important nuance. We would consistently spend half of every lecture trying to figure out some mistake he made mid-class. The entire class is graded off of 2 tests and a final with 3-4 questions each
Terrible, I was better off learning the subject on my own than going into the lectures
An example of a professor who acts like he is knowledgeable but ends being opposite of knowledgeable is Aktas. This guy comes to the class, yaps for 1.15 hours about some bullshit derivations that don't even show up on the exam. Only a psychopath can create a brutal grading structure with 90% of the grade just from 2 midterms and one final.DONTTAKE
This class was horrible. I showed up to lecture the first day where he got sin and cos mixed up and proceeded to look at the board in confusion for 10 minutes. Never showed up again. The only reason I finished with 102 is because I studied hard outside of class, I asked my TA a lot of questions, and there was 8 extra credit points on 2nd midterm.
Aktas handwriting is like chicken scratch. The physics department in uncc is the worst. The attendance on day 1 of lecture = 100%, day 2 = 50%, day 3 = 4% and very soon the physics department will only be teaching walls not human beings. Pathetic. Avoid him at all costs TAKE IT AT CPCC!
Bro made more mistakes than relevant points, if I didn't have a good TA I would've been cooked. He cares more about his drawings than the actual topics and is always screaming at his iPad.
