very smart guy, a little vague on the study guides. Can wear a class out with the monotone, but if you listen, he knows what he's talking about, which makes up for it. Laid back, but informative, so listen close.
This is an easy GE class. 2 multiple choice midterms, he gives out study guides, if your in class you will go fine. The writing requirement is Extra Credit. TAKE THIS CLASS
really an easy A G.E. class.. take it if you wanna raise up your GPA :).. and the best part is that there is no writing requirement :)(:
Easy teacher, go to class and study the test guides and it is an easy A. Only complaint is that he does not always do so well at hiding his conservative side. If your a libral or democrat be prepared to get irked a few times during the semester.

He's a good teacher, just a bit unorganized when it comes to lectures. He tends to skip around a lot. I liked his class though, he's willing to go into detail if asked to.
He gives out studyguides with all the information you need to know for the test. He is pretty interesting considering the topic. If you go to class and take notes, there is no reason you shouldn't do well. I highly recomend for an easy GE class.
He always hands out study guides that have exactly what is on the test. He takes roll 10 times a semester. very clear
loved the class. teacher very good at explaining the material. and a study guide before test = teh winner!

Great teacher. Definitely take him, easy and interesting.

Awesome Teacher
so nice, so easy. trust me.... i failed poli sci the semester before b/c i hated the teacher never take Becker! i retook it with abosch and got a B! the only good teacher for poli sci. usually if he takes attendance on monday or wednesday, he wont take it
Teacher is very easy!!!!!!!!!!EASY A
Amazing Teacher, gives good study guide for all tests. Unbelieveable amount of knowledge about the subject. Couldn't ask for a better teacher
I took over 5 classes with Abosch and he is a good teacher. For those not interested in Politics take him because he won't talk to you as though you all need to know the jargon.
Abosh is very easy, i got an A and really never attended class, he has a hot bod too ;)
Cool guy, pretty simple class, nice study guides.
Class is very simple if you pay attention and use the study guides. Study Guides are given for every test. Offers quite a bit of extra credit too.
A touch of brilliance -- not clear as to why he is @ CSU Fresno; expects students to develop independent reasoning/thinking skills (a blissful oddity here); kind & compassionate (also a rarity), willing to go the extra mile to assist learning. Oh... and sooooooo sexy! <sigh> sometimes to the point of distraction... & he knows it!
How often in life does one come across such a brilliant mind? Never had anyone make abstract material so accessible like Prof. Abosch. He also makes a mean cafe latte and speaks fluent pig latin. As long as I've known him, he has always been doggedly conservative, but noone is perfect... Nonetheless, he comes highly recommended by me.

-random attendance, detailed study guide for tests
I recommend reading the cases b/f class, but it is not req'd. More import: you definitally won't fall asleep in class.
Class is just a bunch of random facts. You never know if what he is saying is important or not. Most the time it is not. I got a B- and worked my ass off. Study guide is 5 pages front and back.
Amazing class!! Text is a dictionary of supreme court cases that you read and analyze judicial theory. Not easy, but not hard either. Just learn the stuff! Everything is essay, so if you like mult. choice don't take this class.
Just review the study guide. You do not even have to go to class or buy the book. If you can memorize the study guide you, like I did, will get an easy A.
This guy is really helpful and genuinely interested in helping you grasp the subject matter. I would recommend him to anyone.
He's cool.
He reminded me of Indiana Jones - the rumbled khaki's - glasses...sigh. Very informative, good teacher, covers the subject matter well and doesn't take himself too seriously...he is a good teacher.
This class is easy....but you just have to study from his study guide which is very helpful....I recommend him for a political science teacher.....Don't have to buy book a essay paper due about 3 to 4 pages long....great teacher you should take......
He is a good teacher but it's kind of boring but he's hot! which makes it a little less boring. I never read the book, just show up to class and memorize the study guide. He just wants us to know the basics so it's not too hard
A decent guy who is passionate about what he is teaching. He expects very little from his students. The grade is entirely based on tests and one essay. He doesn't hesitate to give his conservative-based opinion on matters although he does well to offer explain multiple viewpoints.
I totally have a man crush on Dr. Abosch. I worship the groud he walks on. If you want the best PLSI professor at Fresno st, sign up for all of his classes.
Really good teacher that got me interested in a subject I thought I'd never be interested in.
super easy class. tests are completely based on his study guides, DONT BUY THE BOOK--its a waste of your money...and he's totally hot :)
He is very good looking! Great lecturer very well spoken, some topics get a little boring. Dont need to buy book bc he gives out study guide with all the answers on them!! tests are straight from study guide. short paper on an article and extra credit is available!
He knows his material well and pretty much keep up to date on politic. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, IT'S HELPLESS!! The class room was huge..if you take the class youll notice that he only look at the first five rows(Very Bad Eye Contact..HAHA!!..The class was boring and i feel that he could of done better...I wouldnt recommend him.
Class is easy everything on the study guide is in the test super easy A
This guy was a total joke. I had him for Constitutional law: the federal structure(F 07). This guy is typical conservative ignoramus. I knew he was a conservative but I was looking forward to his class given he was Ivy league educated. he was not articulate nor insightful. In addition, he was a horrible teacher. One of the worst from the PLSI dept.
He is the worst professor i have ever had! His lecture notes are straight out of the book, which no one understands! On the midterm he expects a 5 page essay in a 50 minute class plus 5 short answer questions! Nobody understands him and everyone basically thinks thier going to fail! I usually get A's and i have never failed a course maybe until now
Whom ever said that his midterms are straight from the study guide is a total LIE!I'm taking his poli sci 2 class right now, and to my astonishment of taking the first midterm their were only 3 questions from the SG on the midterm and the rest of the midterm was WORDED!His lectures to tend to get boring but my advice is just attend to class!
Dr. Abosch has to be one of the best professors at fresno state. He is articulate, brilliant, and hilarious. Classes are very interesting, but straight out of the book. I got high A's in all of his classes and never read the book. Tests are straight forward, IF YOU STUDY! I have no sympathy for people who do poorly in his classes, it's their fault.
I agree with the person who too this class with me in that its not easy to take that long of a test in 50 minutes, but its his game and we all have to play or leave. The final I thought was easier but b/c we had more time. Hes a good teacher and I prob. would have gotten more out of the class had I read the cases b/f class. Be sure to do that!
Great professor; very intelligent and knows his stuff. Lectures tend to get super boring, but attending class will definitely help boost your grade. His lectures are straight out of the book which is so hard to understand. But at least he tells us key points on review day. But best piece of advice: Attend class.
One of the hardest and most interesting classes I have taken. The entire grade is based off of a midterm, final, paper, and attendance. He made it very clear on what was expected and his discussion of the cases were essential to understanding. Learned a ton and worked very hard for my A! Highly recommend this teacher!
Difficult topic, EXCELLENT teacher. Very motivation, has an incredible ability to engage the students. Highly recommend, to any Political Science student, probably the best in the department.
Abosch is very knowledgeable on political theory. He is a very forceful lecturer and holds my attention easily. He seems very intelligent. He makes some rather dry subject matter interesting. My only criticisms are that he is not responsive to questions and is not very approachable during his office hours.
Excellent teacher. Nothing better. The study guides are exactly the same as the tests. Just study them, and you're good to go. Make sure you go to class! No need to buy the text book. He will tell you all you need. Such a great professor!
This is a very interesting class. The instructor is a cool guy. The instructor talks very quickly on the cases making it hard to keep up, especially if you have not read the case yet. Exams are written essays only and are not that bad if you study.
Teacher is very knowledgeable on old and contemporary government and political science. Main method of teaching is speaking and writing of key terms on board. Presents info clearly but quickly; type your notes. 3 multiple choice tests, one essay. Class may be boring at times, but if you've an interest in politics, should be easy enough class.
Know your stuff before you answer or talk to him. Could be anti-social, very serious but jokes(rare). Two exams and a paper, free 10% for showing up. SHOW UP! You dont have to read very class period but dont wait till the last minute, memorizing those cases could be unforgiving
He is a very easy professor very passionate. 3 tests including final and one paper. Very simple do your work and your guranteeda B for sure. P.S. Hes gives study guides before every test which is exactly like the test!!
four quizzes with five questions each and one ten page paper. he explains everything perfectly and clearly but very quickly. i used a recorded then went home and was able to catch everything. use the books to help you write your paper, but they aren't needed for the class. make drafts of your paper- he gives good feedback. he is very intelligent!
he gives you everything you need to know for the course but lectures very quickly, so type all of your notes. use the book to write your paper because there is a lot of good information in there. he is such a smarty, so use him as much as possible! not very approachable but do it anyway.
If you are not a plsi major I recommend you don't take this class. I took this class towards my Certificate in legal services. It's not hard! but you have to know and comprehend the material. Tests are essay format. Two tests and a paper.
easy class. do the extra credit if you can. gives you thorough study guides. his political preferences come though during the lectures and he's not easy to talk to but an easy class.
GOOD: You dont need the textbook. You get extra credit for attendance. He will give out study guides that have everything that will be tested. BAD: No blackboard, no power point. Also a little unorganized.
Textbook and attendance is not required which is nice. His study guide, which is given out a week before the test, is almost the same as the actual test. Study the study guide and you'll be fine. Very intelligent however, very boring lectures. Extra credit is possible.
Intelligent professor. Passionate lecturer. REALLY fast speaker, though. There were a few times where I was completely lost. Read the books before class and you should be fine. What I like about him: He forces you think. Don't expect a whiteboard full of notes; it's your responsibility to understand the content and write it down. Tests were okay.
Very easy class. but the lectures are boring. You take 2 midterms and 1 final plus a 4 page paper (very easy) As long as you go the week before the midterm and final to get the study guides you will do fine on the tests! Takes attendance randomly 10 times throughout the semester. He doesn't use Blackboard.
No textbook required, attendance is not mandatory, however he takes attendance at random, so it is worth going to class for this. 2 midterms and a final all of which he provides a study guide which is very similar to the exam. This in addition to 1 term paper which is simple and another one for extra credit.
assignments is one midterm, paper and final. don't need to attend class you can go by with reading textbook or researching cases online. assumes all think the same as he pre-law(took class for credential program)office hours isn't there & when there is very rushed to get you on your way. assumes we are all critical thinkers.
Overall, one of the most boring classes ever. He is so monotone but at least you don't have to buy the book. 2 midterms and 2 papers(1 paper is for extra credit) and the final. Just put some effort into his class and you should be able to get a B. He's easier than the other poli sci professors teaching this class.
Its a good GE class. Its like 3 tests and a final. If you are willing to go to class take notes and study those notes then it will be an easy class. He gives you a studyguid with all the answers, if you just studied the study guide and nothing else you will get at least a C. The class is interesting, its just like a high school polisci class.
He's really passionate about what he does. Hard, but a great teacher who really knows his stuff. Tests are 100% out of the lecture, so go to class!
Dr. Abosch can come off as intimidating at first, but he's a nice guy and definitely one of the smartest professors I've ever had. Go to class to hear his analysis and try to absorb the material. Learn to write in a strong voice.
I hate politics but he changed my view, really good professor. Strongly recommend him. Go to class every time(does random attendance), he gives out study guides before exams. I read the book a little bit, don't need it if you study study guide. And one paper and an extra credit one.
this class is not easy at all it requires a lot of studying in order to pass the class. However he is extremely passionate about poli sci. overall there's 3 tests a 4 page paper an additional extra credit paper is optional and he takes attendance 7 random times.
I did terrible in this class. Roommate told me it would be an easy A, but I did terrible. I attended class everyday and took detailed notes and got a C in the class. Gives you a study guide before exam, but he words the questions odd. That's what stumped me a lot.
Professor Abosch is probably the easiest instructor of this course. He gives you a study guide before every test that has all the information that you need. Boring lectures, but you must go because he takes random attendance. Just study the study guides and you will do well in the class. Definitely recommended!
Abosch is a pretty cool professor. Is he the most animated professor in his lectures? Not at all. But he presents the information in a very clear manner. Both PLSI 110 and 111 have the same test format: 5 short answer questions. Hes not a tough grader. Try to read the books, that certainly helps. Worse case scenerio, use sparknotes before the tests
Textbook required.Midterm and Final: gives you tons of cases to study, you pick 2 and brief them. The ruling is the most important part. He is picky about being correct with times, dates, people. 2nd part of the exams is to write 5-10 pages on a topic covered in class. For the final, it means memorize paper bc= essay.Record his lectures if possible!
easy class. Boring lectures but he understands its GE so he doesn't make it impossible. Would recommend
Don't take this class, super hard and you'll barley pass even if you pay attention. Hardest PLSI class and im a PLSI major.
Very knowledgeable but you must attend class & take good notes to pass. Record his lecture if you're not a good note taker and pay attention to exactly what he wants on the test. If you don't show up for class good luck in passing the course!
Unless you're a great note taker, bring a recorder. You can read the text books, but they aren't really needed. 4 quizzes and tells you what will be on them. I used spark notes to create a study guide for the quizzes. You have an 8 to 10 page final paper. He does grade harshly on the paper. Be sure to have your final paper proof read by tutors.
Don't skip class! If you go and pay attention, you'll have the information you need to make it through. Take notes constantly.
His exams and the paper are difficult. I barely made the C mark and I studied.
Comes on as intimidating when you first enter the class. Talks way too fast, and it's hard to grasp all the information necessary since he's speaking at a fast pace.. Ended up with a B but I certainly had to work super hard for that B. Make sure you DO NOT wait until the last minute to start your paper. Takes attendance randomly. Be ready to work.
He's a great lecturer, but he doesn't care about his students. He never responded to my e-mails and he makes you buy the book even though you don't need it. He's a tough grader and it's hard to pass his class.
Every class he talks you through the cases he assigns in the readings. It will be tempting to skip class because he doesn't take attendance but his descriptions of the cases are essential to being able to talk about them in the way he wants on the tests and in the essay. He's not the easiest teacher compared to others but you really do learn.
Lectures are so long and boring!! He just talks at you the entire time, nothing else. This will happen the entire semester. You will have to teach yourself everything before the test. Thankfully he gives study guides! Study those. He takes random attendance for points, so you play a hitmiss game by going or not going.
He's a great professor. He's intimidating but his explanations are done in a way that students are able to understand in an entry political theory class. His tests are exactly what he lectures on but his paper expectations are a bit vague p overall a great handsome professor
Not as hard as Dr. Becker, but expects the same level of critical thinking. Notes from class are essential for passing the tests, so either go yourself or get someone else to go for you that takes clear notes. If you participate in class, he'll take note, and is more likely to give you an extension if issues arise. Overall, a great professor.
The most boring class ever! He just talks an hour straight hard to keep up without falling asleep got an F! Gives study guides with a million things in it so it's pretty hard to pass if you do bad on tests since there are only 2 test and 2 papers random attendance points you don't wanna miss! Makes the difference in a pass or fail
Dr. Abosch is very proficient in his field which makes the class intriguing. However, if you don't like the subject matter you're going to be board out of your mind. Study as much as you can for the tests and don't be afraid to ask for help when writing your essays. He doesn't seem to care much about his students but don't let that intimidate you.
He should be approachable and kind towards students. Lectures are interesting.
Every single one of his lectures are so well thought out and interesting. He tells you exactly what to study for the (3) quizzes and there's 1 paper. I've had a lot of professors, it doesn't get any better than Abosch.
Abosch is extremely rude. I tried to approach him about his lecture and he went off on me. I will never ever take a class with him again. He's good looking on the outside but rotten from the inside. Grades too harsh makes it seem your in grad school.
If you can't pass this class, college isn't for you. Easiest class I have ever taken. All I did is come to class and take notes. If you do that and read the study guide he gives, you're golden. I never opened the book and spent maybe an hour totally studying for the test. Got an A on both the tests so far.
I really enjoy this class/prof. Imo his lectures are very intriguing and, although there's a lot to grasp, he does clarify and tells you precisely what you must know for the 4 quizzes (5 short answer each). Use a recorder to get it all. Attend every class. One 8-10 pg paper: 2 topics to choose from, which he elaborates on so you get the main theme.
Attendance (10pt), 1 paper about 2-3pgs (10pt), 2 exams (25pt) & 1 Final (30pt) Make sure to go over the study guide a couple times, not just the day before just memorize!! Given that the class is out of 100 pt. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT PAPER (10pt) it helps trust me I didn't & caused me to lose a very easy A.
He is extremely intelligent. He teaches the class like an upper division college course, which it is. People who don't like him don't like that he treats you like an adult and a junior/senior college student. Because he is so smart, his lectures a very fast-paced and not super dumbed down, so it may be hard for some people to follow along.
Professor Abosch is a great educator. He's clearly passionate about his work and his intellect is pretty intimidating but it's something to aspire to. He's a bit awkward when you talk to him but he's pretty fun. Definitely recommend him if you actually want to learn something useful.
Abosch is extremely intelligent, and it can be a little overwhelming and intimidating. He is a very good speaker but doesn't baby you with powerpoints and study guides. He uses big terminology and the class is very fast paced. He is a very typical lawyer. Honestly, if you're not very naturally smart, this class will be hard for you.
While he doesn't take attendance, I still highly recommend you go to class. His classes are interesting and not a drag and he gives you EVERYTHING you will ever need on the tests if you just go to class and take good notes. He tells you whats on the test the class before, and he's a fair grader. You will learn a lot in this class.
I really recommend Abosch. He will teach you a lot and you will enjoy his lectures. Doesn't take attendance but if you go you will never have to open the book because he gives you everything you need to know. He gives you the test questions the class before. He is understanding and a great guy if you act like you care about the class and your grade
He gives you a study guide that basically is the exam, a few things are left out but you hear it if you go to lectures. He's pretty chill but he takes attendance on random days so if you want the attendance credit GO.
I wish I would have read the warnings on here. DO NOT take this class. His lectures are long, he doesn't use blackboard or powerpoint, and is extremely condescending. He expects you to know everything and makes you feel stupid when you don't. He is also very uncaring towards his students when they need extra help. Take someone else.
This professor is chill. He puts up a slideshow but you do not have to copy it down because he gives you a study guide before his tests and the study guide is literally the test. Know the study guide, you will pass the exam. There is 1 paper, and an extra credit paper. He does random attendance, those are easy points.
Definitely the most challenging class I have taken so far at Fresno State. Professor Abosch is so intelligent that it can be intimidating. He expects a lot from his students and challenges them to think critically about every case he presents. If you skip lecture, you won't pass. Be prepared to write... a lot! Difficult, but great course.
I dont understand why he is at Fresno, he should be a professor at a good law school. 1 paper 2 essay tests. Expects alot of critical thinking. Lots of memorization. Very challenging class but its a great intro to law school. He will challenge you to think in ways you never have before. Not an easy A. He works with students who take class seriously
4 short answers tests 1 8pg paper. Gives you the 5 SA questions the class before the test so whether you get an A depends on your ability to memorize and how good your notes are. Fair grader, got low As and high Bs on my tests. Dont need the books if you go to class and take detailed notes. Simplifies complex material in well thought out lectures.
If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. This is a very challenging class and the tests require a ton of studying. 1 10pg paper 2 essay tests, grade out of 300pts. This class was hard but I learned a ton. These classes are a wakeup call to people who plan on going to law school, but are great intros to law.
Amazing class. He wants students to absorb the ideas of political theory and is very clear with what to study for. No exams, just 5 quizzes. Gives a lot of information in every lecture, but you will learn a lot. Is ready to help serious students. Take good notes, and I recommend going to his office for advice on the paper.
Professor Abosch was a great professor, but I can see why many have decided not to take him. From the start of class, he starts lecturing (no hello, or good morning). You better write down every single thing he says, or else you will not be able to study and pass his tests. The tests are short answer (about 3 sentences), and all come from lecture.
Dr. Abosch is awesome! Fresno State is so lucky to have him. If you're thinking about attending law school his style of teaching is a perfect sneak peek. He is brilliant and passionate about what he teaches. You have to actually pay attention and take good notes, but he makes the lectures interesting. Also, he gives you the answers to the SG.
As a recent graduate, I can confidently say he is one of, if not the, best PLSI professor at Fresno State. He is extremely intelligent and is willing to help students who want to learn and do well in the class. His classes are difficult, but manageable. I took him more than once, and really enjoyed his classes. I learned a lot from Abosch.
Takes random attendance, only 100 points, test are hard but gives you study guide
Relatively easy class, my only complaint is it seemed a bit unorganized. I don't think he kept track of grades correctly and he doesn't enter anything on blackboard. The tests are a copy of the study guide, pretty much. Easy paper.
A brilliant professor. He can be intimidating at first, but it's only because he cares and wants you to care. He makes abstract philosophical ideas easy to understand.
Great professor, only takes attendance on 10 random days so you can skip a few. no homework, the only grades are a 4 page paper, a few tests, and the final. As long as you pass those, you're good, and he gives a filled-out study guide so you don't even have to try. If you struggle with political science just take this class. Would take again.
If you struggle with political science take this professor. The class is based on attendance, 2 midterms, 1 final, and one 4 page paper. There is one opportunity for extra credit by writing another paper following the same criteria as the first. He posts a study guide on BB a week prior to the exam. The study guide is basically the exam.
Dr. Abosch is brilliant but can be sort of intimidating. His lectures are great and if you're a slow typer I recommend recording because he gives the answers to his quizzes through the material. Studying is key for the quizzes, I got A's on all of them but he grades harder on the essay so make sure you give yourself time when writing that.
Class consists of 4 quizzes and one 8-10 page essay. Lectures are intense and speaks very fast. VERY tough grader, you must study for the quizzes and CAN'T procrastinate on the essay. definitely go to his office hours(a bit intimating professor) for help on the essay. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, one shouldn't miss class.
Easiest class. There's two exams, a final, and a four page paper due on an article of your choice. Attendance doesn't really matter, but he takes it 10 times randomly throughout the semester and it counts for 20% of your grade, so it's best just to go. Study guides mirror the exams: I got 46/50 without taking any notes.
Graded by VERY FEW things. Two midterms, a final, 10 random attendance days, and a paper. STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE, not the notes. Quizlet helped me study A LOT and as long as you have everything memorized, you'll ace it. He doesn't use BB or Canvas so beware of your test grades and attendance because you won't know until the end.
Abosh is super straightforward. Gives it to you as it is. Most of the time he finishes lecture early. 2 exams and a final, with one paper. The tests are worth ALOT so you need to study. He posts up a study guide which is basically the test. Study those and you'll do fine. The paper is only graded out of 10 pts. so don't procrastinate and BS it.
Abosch's class is a rewarding challenge. Final grade based on midterm, final, & term paper. Each lecture consists of reviewing court cases. I HIGHLY recommend taking detailed notes and recording lectures; really goes a long way when studying. Abosch gives you everything that you need to know for test. He is intimidating at first, but helpful.
3 Exams, 1 paper, 1 extra credit paper (optional), and attendance points are important for your grade. This class is 90% lecture. I reccomend this class if you're looking for minimal work but are willing to study and can do exceptional on test performance. STUDY GUIDE TEST
Usually only lectures for 40-50 minutes. Lectures can get boring because he doesn't make it interesting and with his monotone voice. Attendance is random. 4 essays throughout the semester that is chosen by him. Unlike previous semesters, he doesn't give out study guides anymore except for the final so notes and attendance are really important
They say that you learn the most from the hardest classes. If that's true, you learn a ton from this class. Loved it so much I'll be taking his 171 class too. He has a lot of bad reviews on here that alarmed me more than they should have. Go to class, take notes, and repeat what he has said on the midterm and final. Wish I could take it again.
You really need to study for this class. There was one essay (8-10 pages) and two exams. While Abosch is monotone and serious most times, he really knows what he's talking about and very intelligent. However, you REALLY need to do the case readings and study after class. This class is not an easy A, but you will come to learn a lot in the end.
Terrible experience. don't ever take any class with him.
Gives 3 exams and 1 paper. He expects his students to match up with his own understanding level. Very tough grader.
Abosch was absolutely dreadful to learn from as a professor. While I cant deny that he knows the material he teaches, he is unpleasant and unreasonable to work with. I asked him if I could reschedule the midterm since he moved it to the next week and I had a doctors appointment and he flat out denied me. It was hard since he grades on 3 criteria.
Do NOT take him. VERY long slide lectures and he makes it boring because he is uninterested. He's like a robot when it comes to lecture and moves on too quickly. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Don't ever take any class with him!!! He is so rude and intimidating. I got A in my all 3 exams and got a C in paper and he gave me C in the class. He's a dog. NEVER EVER TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM!!!!!
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! HORRIBLE!!!!!
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! IF YOU WANT AN A DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! PROFESSOR IS NOT HELPFUL AND IS A TOUGH GRADER!!!
The beginning of the semester went well until the middle where he changed the grading materials and added made more quizzes. Originally it was fairly easy but then became test heavy. The lectures are interesting, but when approaching the professor with questions he sounds strict which makes people dont want to approach again. 1 paper 6 tests.
The class was very enjoyable overall. Not an easy class, but if you do the work and put in some effort it is more than worth it. The lectures were in-depth but clear to understand. I would take this professor for any class.
He only grades 3 exams and 1 final essay. His lectures are very bland, and the only information given is prerecorded lectures and a study guide for each exam. He tested us on up to date politics in the exams, and failed to mention it. I would not recommend him to anyone!!
One of my favorite Political Science teachers at Fresno State. Only because of his refreshing perspective and ability to objectively teach apart from political bias. You HAVE to show up to class, attendance is a good portion of your grade. There aren't any assignments, so you want to do well with quizzes. He records all lectures. 100% recommend.
Professor Abosch isn't your average college professor who will just accept surface answers, but makes you dive deeper into the reading. He pushes you to really think outside the box. If your not capable of doing that, then this class isn't for you. But if you enjoy lectures that challenge you to think beyond your political spectrum, then take this.
Ignore the bad reviews. They are reviews based on people who only choose "nice" professors. If you want something worth your college tuition, take Abosch. He will challenge you to think hard about your views, and will demand you to explain them. Come to class with an open mind- you will not be disappointed. Don't be afraid to ask him questions!
Some will try to discourage you from taking this class since they disagree with his view but I would say challenge yourself and take it. He may come off as intimidating due to his seriousness but don't let that stop you from having a conversation with him. He does what a professor should do: challenge you by makin you think deeper about an issue.
Lecture heavy; Only work is a few short essay quizzes and a single essay so careful if you don't get exactly what he discusses in class. Tbh if we weren't in zoom w/recorded lectures, I don't think I would've passed bc I could NEVER pay attention or take notes fast enough. Tough grader. Overall, not a fan. :/ Didn't click w/his vibe bc he had none.
His lecturing skills are excellent. When helping students during office hours, he definitely lacks bedside manner. If you're the type that needs one on one attention, I wouldn't recommend him; but if that's not something you typically need, he is a great professor to have. Very impressed with his ability to explain concepts clearly.
Very conflicted writing this review because one: taking this class was a stimulating, rigorous experience and getting an A in it is something Im extremely proud of, but 2, this professor is the last person Id ever want to teach this class. If you have thick skin, take the class. If you dont, you might want to beware.
Don't take this class it's super unorganized. This teacher is a joke and should be fired and makes the most simplest things difficult. Like for example, he told the class to submit a paper to his email and not on canvas. I emailed my paper to him and submitted it to canvas and the dummy still gave me a zero even though I followed his instructions.
Summer Exams x3 each 45 points Essay 30 points Quiz x4 each 20 points You can only miss 12 points total to get an A. Class average was a C. I don't know if anyone got an A. Maybe like 1 or 2 people. If you want an A for GPA then don't take this class. Only take if you can study 5-10 hr/week + 3 hour lecture video/ week. Doesn't curve/doesn't care
This professor was alright. This particular class you need to have your camera on with no notes on you or there will be consequences. In an exam, he gave us questions about things that are not covered in the lectures which is no help. You are not allowed to see what you got right or wrong for your quizzes / tests, as well.
Terrible professor. Exams needed camera on and were NOTHING like what was taught like 0%. Wasn't even enough time to take the exam. Don't bother taking him trust me you will regret it. Probably a handful of students that passed.
He is a great teacher. He knows his material well and will challenge you to think critically about content. Four exams are during the semester, and a short paper is at the end.
If you plan to go to law school, you should absolutely take his classes. He offers one constitutional law course per semester, PLSI 170 or 171, and they are essential for any aspiring lawyer at FSU. Read before you come to class, and take good notes. They're not easy, but you will leave with knowledge that you will need to pursue your goal.
This class requires constant studying and attention. While the lectures can be dry, using Unstuck AI alongside the textbook helped me prepare for the challenging exams. Not for the faint of heart, but doable with dedication.
He has no presentation slides, no nothing. He walks in class and goes straight to talking. You have to know how to take notes while he speaks. Quizzes are 4 questions and are written.
Professor Abosch's lectures are truly amazing. He makes the content so interesting and easy to comprehend. However, if you don't go to class regularly, you will not get a good grade because you are only graded on quizzes and one paper. He's biased politically toward right-wing ideology, and he makes it known.
You learn a lot from him in political theory that applies to modern day politics. 4 quizzes, and 1 final paper. His lectures prepare you for all 5. Just listen, and take notes the way he advises and you'll do good. He's approachable, and softens up halfway through the semester. You truly walk out feeling smarter.
He is a very tough grader on all the papers and only gives feedback if you go visit him during office hours. It would've been more helpful if he had given feedback individually. The other reviews of him are spot on though.
They are extremely difficult to work with. I tried emailing this professor over a mistake and they were completely dismissive, unhelpful and rude. I wouldn't suggest taking them, find a different teacher if you want to pass. Since the class is really only tests and quizzes there's not much opportunity to improve your grade.
Don't bother taking the course with this professor. Save yourself some trouble and find another professor to work with. Unless you want a bad grade, I recommend this class. He has 3 exams, 4 quizzes, and 1 essay paper so your grade really matters on that. Plus he's rude. I wouldn't want to put myself through that level of disrespect again.
I thought this class was going to be easy but I was wrong. All exams must be taken at the BTC so if you think you can easily pass, don't think too highly of yourself. Content for lecture and exam were different. Save yourself stay away!!
Good luck trying to reason with this professor. Lectures are ok and provide good information but the attitude and passive aggressiveness you get from this man when asking for help on anything is absurd. It's sad that political science majors have to take him and will be told directly that they won't succeed as a polisci major if they struggle.
ur grade is dependent on very little things so if you mess up on one part ur entire grade will suffer and no extra credit, so you cant really bring it back up he offers no easily accessible feedback on paper and grades very harsh on paper even though there is literally no organized rubric/guideline to adhere to (interpret the prompt) + RUDE
This professor gives so little to be graded on so you have a very small chance to get your grade up. The only information you are given are his Powerpoints. Not impossible to pass, but read the syllabus THROUGHLY. He seems paranoid of AI use so quizzes are 5 questions and given only 4 minutes and you only find out what it is about the day before.
Extremely difficult course based off of a couple quizzes and tests which make it difficult to keep a good grade in the class also never provided feedback on essay.
