He's a good professor, his accent is just hard to hear when you sit in the back so try to sit closer so you can hear. He doesn't test out of the textbook but its important to read it anyway because his slides are pretty concise. He's really quick to respond to emails and makes time for extra office hours if you need them.
Dr. Mehari is fine and he's sweet and his test are straight-forward.
His exams are super straight-forward. The textbook is helpful to have when reviewing over the PowerPoint slides before exams. Easy A. Great guy who makes Microbiology understandable and fun.
He lectures too fast to keep up by taking notes, but he posts his powerpoints online. Test are tough but not unfair for most questions, although he does throw in a few questions that come out of nowhere, but they're never enough to wreck your grade. Overall a nice man who lectures decently well and cares about the material. Would take again.
Standard lecture and exam-based class. Lectures are not very helpful as far as absorbing material, but go anyway to catch details that have a good chance of being tested. He posts his powerpoints online, so study those with the textbook for an easy A.
Exams are straightforward and easy most of the time. Some questions are pretty random and make sure you know the pictures from the powerpoints. Quick to respond to emails. Lab final is ridiculous so try to get a good grade on the midterm.
Dr. Mehari is seriously so helpful and WANTS you to be successful in his class! By the end of the semester I knew all of the material really well and it's helping me study for the MCAT over the break. 10/10 would take again, literally just go to class and if you're feeling lost, look through the textbook--it's available to rent in the library.
He is a decent teacher, but he read straight from power points and didn't completely explain the material very well. Questions on test are similar to review questions for each chapter but not as straight forward.
you can make an A in this class without ever attending the lecture. requires a lot of memorizing his power points. 3 tests plus a cummulative final. test are not that bad, but must do well on all of them because making above a low A on a test is pretty difficult.
This class was not bad at all. Relatively easy tests as long as you study his powerpoints. The book was helpful on topics that he didn't cover as much in lecture. Super interesting class and 10/10 would take again!
Yohannes is a very friendly guy; although, he is very shy. His tests are multiple choice and while they can seem tricky, he always writes them so that you can get the correct answer through the process of elimination. The lab is super fun too.
I love Yohannes as a professor. He is really funny and sometimes he dismisses class early. You could probably skip class and do okay, but sometimes he says stuff in class that aren't in the slides and it's on the test. If you go to class you should do well. He also does iClicker questions for credit and extra credit. Definitely would take him again
Yohannes is a nice guy, but this class is really hard. His powerpoints are a little vague, but he expects you to know super detailed things for the tests. As a teacher, he's alright, and he seems to genuinely care about the students, it's just that this class is super hard. Get ready to study.
Yohannes is my dawg. Super interesting, smart, and funny dude. Really wants you to succeed but the class is kind of tough (but interesting) unless it's your only time intensive class. Gives bonus points out. Love the lab for this class too, best lab I've ever had.
literally the sweetest man in the entire world but test are kinda difficult
He has a thick accent so he can be hard to understand at times, but this class really isnt that bad. He posts the old tests to canvas, and the new ones are pretty similar. He adds some info in lecture so it helps to go, but for the most part the tests are straight from the slides.
Very hard to understand when he is speaking. His tests are extremely hard and asks questions about small details from lecture. Also gives quizzes every friday as class participation grade, but grades them for accuracy. Not the best teacher to take, especially for a subject as hard as microbiology. I would recommend someone easier to understand.
i love yohannes so much. go to class bc he gives extra credit for clicker questions. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. he will give you points back on tests if you back yourself up. its a hard class but he cares SO MUCH and is easily approachable. such a nice guy. be prepared to work hard and the lab is AWESOME
He is great! He really helps you understand the material and if you don't understand and don't want to speak up during class you can go to his office hours and he will help you. He has iClicker quizzes that count as 5%. I also got some candy for going to his office. Make sure you read the slides and understand the pathways/systems in detail.
Yohannes is one of my favorite teachers Ive had here at auburn! He is from Eritrea, so he does have a thick accent but I found it entertaining! It is lecture heavy and he mentions stuff in class that arent in the slides so attending class is definitely helpful!
Yohannes is super sweet and pretty funny. His tests are all multiple choice and come straight from his PowerPoints that he uploads online. He reads straight from them, which is a little annoying, but its mostly fine. Both class and lab are easy, but lab can be annoying depending on the GTA you get.
Dr. Mehari is a great guy but his lectures are pretty boring. He reads from the slides but does clicker questions so you still have to go. His tests are fairly straightforward with increasing difficulty as you go. Read the lecture notes mostly, but check the textbook on the detailed stuff and you should be fine.
While his lectures aren't the most interesting, you should definitely go to class and an A will be very doable. Just take the power point notes and read the book, the tests aren't in too much detail but you definitely need to put in the time. His tests are very straightforward and he's super helpful if you ever ask a question, or even what to study
This class wasn't hard, but it definitely is one that you have to take the time to study for! I really enjoy lectured and thought that he made microbiology interesting and fun! He's also a super nice guy and if you can ever argue why you put a different answer than the correct one on an exam he'll give you points back! Overall one of my favorites!
Great guy! Something that Ive encountered at auburn with Professors from different countries like him is the language barrier. He speaks English really well, and well enough to articulate complex ideas. Awesome sense of humor and tests really do just come from the PowerPoint. Learning Catylitics is your only actual homework. Highly recommend.
amazing teacher! you have to go to class because a lot of his test questions are things he says not directly from his powerpoints. He is very passionate and wants to help, he has no problem giving you back points if you can explain why you thought your answer was better. I studied very hard for this class to get an A.
I usually don't rate professors unless they're bad/I want to warn others, but I had to because Mehari is such a kind person!Your grade is based off of three tests and a final worth 90% of your grade plus 10% hw he gives out randomly so check your email very frequently. Lectures are boring but he's funny when he wants to be. Not a hard class-study!
He's honestly the best teacher I've ever taken. He wants his students to pass and is willing to help during office hours. He's a very caring person. The only con about him is that he's hard to follow during lectures but his tests aren't bad. I wish I could take him again, he's great!
He is a nice guy and wants people to succeed. His tests are all comprised of old tests he has given in past semesters. Study those and the powerpoint and you will be fine.
Pretty easy A if you study. Mostly memorization and sometimes gives bonus. Gives old tests to study with.
Trys to make class fun when the subject can be very boring. The class is very hard but that has more to do with the subject rather than the professor. Graded only on test and LCs so if you fail more than one test you are done for. He also uploads the powerpoints and a practice test before each test which are very helpful.
Yohannes is one of my favorite professor at Auburn so far. He really wants his students to do well and gives the class ample time to ask questions in class. His accent is very thick, but you get used to it pretty fast. The material is very hard and requires a lot of studying, but you can definitely do well in this class! Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed Yohannes as a person and a professor, however, all of the notes are posted online, so going to class was unnecessary. His tests are similar to the old exams he posts, and there are tons of quizlets out there to help you study. The final was REALLY hard in comparison to his exams, but other than that, the class is an easy A.
Nice dude who knows his topic. Tests do not tend to match the lecture, so a lot of outside work is necessary. Drops lowest test grade if your final is better, gives extra credit for class participation. DO THE HOMEWORK!! The LC grades can boost you a letter grade. Surface level lecture, but in depth tests make things a little harder. Good prof
Yohannes' biol 3200 class wasn't hard material. All the test were recycled questions from previous semesters. His powerpoints were often vague compared to what you actually had to know for the test which went much deeper. Reading the book helps. The final honestly SUCKED because he picked the tiniest details from past tests to be on the final.
He is one of my favorite professors I've taken. Class is basically pointless to attend since he posts everything online regardless, but his tests are difficult nonetheless. Hes very helpful outside of class, but you do have to study for the exams. He provides old exams, but be careful because he switches small words around so it can be confusing
Super nice guy, kept me engaged. Posts powerpoints, but going to lecture is more helpful because he explains things. Would recommend recording lecture because powerpoints dont have everything he has on tests. He says use the textbook, but I didn't and I fared pretty well. Find an old test to study from, not memorize, and you should be good!
Great class. Class is very helpful because he says things that aren't on the slides. He asks in class questions for bonus opportunities and gives many chances to ask questions in class. A lot of people complained about how hard the final was, but I thought it was easier than his normal tests. would take again in a heartbeat. also lab is awesome
This was a very tough class. For reference, I got an A in both ochem and physics but got a B in this class. It's not hard to get an A, but a ton of studying is required. You really have to dedicate yourself to this course and really understand the material. Also, he made new questions this year so the old tests don't help anymore.
I made A's in all of my Auburn sciences until this class and I struggled for a C. He made his tests very tricky. He would listen to you explain your test answers, and if he could see where you were coming from he may give you some points back, so that was nice.
not a fan of his teaching style at all. lecture is boring and tests are quite difficult. he is a nice guy but honestly is terrible at explaining things. be prepared to teach yourself everything. only way to do well is always go to lecture and go review sessions. his old tests dont help at all when studying.
Yohannes is a mediocre teacher at best. Nice guy and all but dont take the class. Speaks broken English, horrible at explaining things. He tell the class that certain topics wont be on the exam and then fills the exam with that topic. Every Question on his tests are all trickery.
Yohannes is a nice guy but he completely changed his tests to spite those who would use the old ones to study and puts questions on the test that were never discussed. The lab is a lot of fun though with no papers like normal labs have!
This class used to be easy, but he changed it out of spite. He tells you things won't be on the exam, only to make that topic be the majority of the exam. The lecture slides do not contain enough information, and its hard to understand what he wants you to get from the material to do well on the tests. Don't really recommend
The test were extremely difficult.... I understand applying what we learn instead of just memorizing, but geez... You need to do more than that to hope for an A. Attendance isnt mandatory. There are some LA review sessions, but they arent really helpful at all.
Im going to try to sum this up as accurately and as short as possible. Microbiology was hard. Go to class, read the powerpoints over and over again, record his lectures and take notes from that, study the LCs, go to OH and LA review sessions. Study early/hard and stay on top of the material. Dr. Yohannes is a very kind man but he does not play.
Dr. Mehari is an amazing professor and I truly enjoyed the class. Yes it was hard but if you take notes during the lectures and read the main points in the book you'll be fine. You need to start studying for the test about a week beforehand. He truly cares about his students but you have to work for your grade.
Dr. Yohannes is a wonderful man. Very reasonable about giving points back. He words questions difficultly and makes you apply info. Know more than the slides. Take the LC seriously because it counts for a fair amount of grade. Go to office hours. He offers extra credit for answering questions in class or going to reviews. Gives practice tests.
He was great, would recommend. You have to actually go to class and pay attention though
I was extremely worried before I took him because I saw so many negative comments about him on Rate My Professor, however, he turned out to be one of my favorite college professors. Go to class, pay attention, and study a week or so in advance. He is a great professor & extremely caring!!
He is seriously so sweet. He is very accommodating and cares about his students. He is helpful with any questions you have. The class material is hard, but if you go to class and pay attention you will be fine! I studied 2-3 days before each exam and did good.
I loved Dr. Mehari! He cares about his students so much and was always happy to help! He is such a nice guy and a great prof. U need to go to class though because a lot of the test comes from stuff he actually says in class that isn't on the slides. U have to study and you can't just blow it off but the class is way easier than people made it seem.
Loved Yohannes! He really tries to make the class interesting and is always available for help. Definitely go to class and take notes, his tests are heavy on some thing that he only says in class. Hes very caring and wants everyone to learn. One of my favorite classes.
The instructions for our homework assignments and projects are so vaguely written it's ruining microbiology for me. For example, instructions for the genome project were seemingly written for a different version of the NCBI website. I don't think it's too much to ask for a professor to proofread their assignments when I'm paying $1300 for the class
Professor Mehari was honestly one of the easiest online classes I've taken at Auburn, he gives 1 weekly quiz, discussion, and assignment which can be annoying but it's not hard work at all. I honestly didn't study as hard as I should've and made 60's on two of the four tests and still passed the class with a B-. Use the study guides he provides!
He does not teach the online course well since it is a "self-taught". His lectures are broad and don't help much for the exams. His exams are super specific. His group assignments' instructions are too broad. And there is no option to rate your group members and each person receives the same grade despite putting in different amounts of work.
Took his online microbio class and got the grade I wanted but no thanks to him. Hes a nice man and will give points back on tests if you can explain why you thought it was right but he did not teach the content at all. Study the modules hard core 4-5 days before test and you should do fine but the test questions are extremely specific.
This was by far my lowest grade I've received in a science course. He seems to like to trick students on the tests.
Dr. Mehari obviously cares about Biology, but doesn't seem to be very clear when giving lectures. He will not give set answers to your questions in regards to what is on the test. Overall pretty easy class still, tests have a lot of questions that are not covered in lecture or barely touched on.
Mehari is not a bad professor and always replied to my emails pretty quickly. Test are very detailed but if you read through all the notes a few times its not terrible. There was a group poster project that was a little frustrating to do due to COVID and having to do it together online.
Sweetest professor I've had here, his classes are easy to understand and follow. He responds quickly to emails and genuinely wants the best for you. His tests are detailed but nothing impossible. Go to class and actually listen to the lectures and you'll do great. Highly recommend!
Dr. Yohannes is one of the most reasonable and lenient professors I've had at AU. He doesn't like to lecture for long, gives extra credit, and explains/answers questions well. The tests were a little hard because 1030 requires a lot of memorization, but Dr. Yohannes made one test open book. A very easy, fun, and interesting professor for sure.
I LOVED having Yohannes as a professor! I rarely attended an in-class lecture and still passed with a good grade. He tries to make the material fun and understandable for every student. He is also very thorough when answering questions. His class is definitely test heavy although there are some smaller assignments he gives just not often.
Professor Mehari is truly cares about how well his students do. He tries his best to be fair and help the students out anyway he can. I wouldn't say his tests were easy, but you'll do fine as long as you study at least a couple days before. His test are mostly memorization.
Super nice and willing to help. The online material is hard to follow sometimes, but if you ask for him to post supplemental powerpoints and lectures he will do it and it will help a lot. There is a final project, which is time-consuming, but relatively easy. The tests are hard, but you can make A's if you memorize the info really hard the week of.
I really didn't think I would do well in microbiology, but Dr. Mehari made the class enjoyable. He only tests from his powerpoints that he provides, so make sure you have a good understanding of them. He also drops the lowest test grade which was a huge bonus. Overall, he's a great and caring teacher!
Want to get ahold of him outside of the lectures he posts for IN CLASS students? GOOD LUCK, you will need it. It took me 3 weeks harassing the TA, him, assistant teachers and the DAY BEFORE THE FINAL to figure out why my grades were wrong. Also the lectures he posts? Only really relevant to the IN CLASS students. Good luck.
I emailed Dr. Mehari multiple times throughout the semester, and he responded to every single one. Power Points and LA review are the best study materials for exams. Dont expect to know exactly where you stand in the class because he often (esp. last few weeks) is behind on grading. Id take him, and make sure questions you ask are relevant.
I took Mehari online out of necessity, highly do not recommend. He never told us information, about anything. Just shoved all of the information online and gives a good luck. Even though its an asynchronous online class, he makes you come take the test in person. He is almost impossible to get a response from. Rude. Unaccommodating, just don't take
I loved Dr. Mehari! I was nervous about this class but he is so understanding and is very reasonable. He is in-depth with his lectures and stops many times to allow for questions. He is passionate about what he teaches and I love going to his class. Take him if you can!!! He is the best!
Sometimes he can be a little unclear, but he always tries to clear it up if you make it obvious that you're confused. You gotta help him help you out. He won't just give you an A. Posts lectures on Canvas, so you can always review. The resources are there; you just have to use them. Not even a biology major, but he's made it all easy to understand.
Dr. Yohannes is a great choice for micro. His tests are very detailed and thorough but he is willing to give points back. There were extra credit opps. You have to pay attention but he really does care about your understanding. Graded by weekly packbacks, quizzes, and 4 tests. LAs are super helpful. Take him!
Dr. Yohannes is a great prof. He gives you the option of attending lectures in person or through Zoom. His tests are super easy as long as you really memorize his lecture powerpoints. He is very considerate and gives points back for things topics he did not cover too much in class. Memorize the lecture slides!! Would take again!!
Dr. Mehari is a very kind man. Interact and get to know him. I will warn you, he can be quite confusing at times and his tests can be challenging. Also, he will mess up in test questions. But mention it to him and he will make it right. Watch the lectures/go to class and study like normal and you will be fine.
Dr Yohannes has been one of my best professors here at Auburn. The class requires some effort, but he is incredibly fair. I wish I could have him again in class.
The course itself isn't terrible and there isn't a ton of content. The final was impossibly difficult and brought everyone's grades down a lot. I had an A all semester until the final exam. Be sure to not only know the material in the powerpoints, but also take careful notes of what he says during class.
He is really sweet and gives lots of extra credit. I recommend reading the textbook because I believe it helped me on the exams. His exams are very fair in my opinion, he doesn't try to trick you.
This class is just tough in general, but Dr. Mehari cares and wants you to succeed. He knows its a lot of information and tries to help. He offers some extra credit and is really nice.
Mehari is a great teacher and truly cares about his students. The class is defenitely difficuly but with some studying not too bad. He is really funny and doesn't lecture for too long. I reccomend him for sure
Dr. Yohannes was great! He allows students to "challenge" his tests. Because he is not a native English speaker, he sometimes words things a little confusingly, so it's helpful he allows students the opportunity to get points back. As long as you study the powerpoint notes and the textbook, you will do great in his class. 100% would take again.
Dr. Mehari is probably my favorite professor I have had at Auburn. He cares a lot about his students and makes class fun despite the lecturing. This is not an easy class, but he makes it as fun and entertaining as he can. He also lets students challenge his test questions so you will always get points back on tests which is very nice.
Honestly Mehari's a really solid professor. We had some issues with the hyflex zoom situation, but other than that I thought his lectures were good and he seemed like a really nice guy.
He is a really good teacher, it is just a super hard class.
Loved Dr. Mehari! He truly cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. He lets students "challenge" test questions after our test, and each time we got points back on them! He is so kind and you can tell he is passionate about what he studies. Just study the slides, read the textbook, memorize, and you're fine! 100% would take again!
Professor Mehari is amazing. It's hard to find a professor you enjoy for most sciences. Mehari was very generous for allowing curves, question challenging opportunities, extra credit, etc. He is very funny and teaches well. If you study and read the book, you should perform well. He made a difficult course enjoyable!
Prof Merhari is wonderful! its nice to have a prof who's passionate about teaching. His lectures were interesting, he sometimes would show videos which i liked. His test are just like his quizzes and in class participation questions, study that and you'll end with an A and a good understanding of biology!
Meharis lectures are easy and straightforward. All you have to do is study them. He does weekly packbacks, and also does unit quizzes, but many of the quiz questions end up on the actual exam. If you get a bad grade in this class it is most likely because you didnt study and take advantage of the resources he gives you.
I love Dr. Mehari. He actually teaches in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but he has in class activities often. He also uses some of those questions on his tests. He is an awesome professor.
Dr. Mehari is a great professor and really cares about microbiology. His accent can be challenging at first but after a class or 2, you can understand him clearly. His tests are average science tests with the same hard wording but he gives a lot of credit back after each test due to students talking to him about missed questions.
Dr Mehari is pretty great. He cares about the subject he is teaching. His accent can be a little difficult, but after a few classes you get the hang of it. There are a TON of grades throughout the semester and he drops several of them. Attendance is not mandantory, but he says a good bit of stuff that isn't on the slides.
Yohannes is a very good professor and I really enjoyed taking General Microbiology with him. Attendance is not mandatory but there are in class activities that you will need a code for that are given in class. Overall I loved this class and would really recommend taking Yohannes, he is very caring and more than willing to help you if you.
I absolutely love Dr. Mehari! He is very passionate about Microbiology and teaches it very well. His accent is a little hard at first, but it comes with the humor he has. The lecture is very important to go to because he says a lot of information that will be on the exam that isn't in the slides. His quizzes are very helpful!
He is a really good teacher and gives extra credit opportunities to those who attend class. He is very helpful and explains things well and is also really funny. His tests are pretty hard and you have to put in a lot of work into this class but he wants to help you if you ask.
Go to lecture and make this class easy on yourself. Read the textbook regularly because that's where all test questions come from. Don't fall behind on class materials or your grade will suffer. Mehari is not the best lecturer but he is a very nice man and going to class and doing what he says will get you an A.
This man is the best! He is a little hard to understand, and I would go to class. He gives so many easy points and drops lowest grades in some categories. Hes funny and approachable and gives back points on exams if you can explain why you wrote something. Class requires work but totally can make an A. Would definitely take him again!
Mehari is hard to understand but a great guy. Tests were difficult but manageable. Weekly Packback, in-class activities for credit, unit quizzes, 3 exams, and a final. He often gives many points back after exams for unfair questions. If you have to take micro, take Yohannes!
Mehari was great but language barrier was a real problem in understanding lectures. Tests were very specific but not unreasonable. Lots of participation grades included in average to help buffer lower test scores. He will not answer an email. He's a really funny guy and makes the lectures as entertaining as possible; overall pretty easy class.
What an amazing guy and professor. genuinely cares ab students success and the class is not too difficult. take him
I love Mehari! Tests are difficult but not bad if you take the time to study. He is very funny in class and really cares about his students. He makes the class fun and interesting! Attendance is not mandatory but he gives in-class activities which have really improved my grade. I would highly recommend Mehari to anyone who has to take BIOL 3200!
He skims through his lectures and expects you to read from the textbook. There's a lot of in class activities and homework that help boost your grade up. Probably wouldn't take him again for something else just because I don't prefer his teaching methods.
Mehari is one of my favorite professors at Auburn! He is super sweet and understanding. He offers SO MANY opportunities to earn points. Just show up to class in order to take the in-class activities/quizzes and you will do fine! He also gives multiple bonus point opportunities. Definitely take him if you can!
Organized lectures, silly goofy jokes, AND ppts on canvas. Dr. Yohannes is the whole package. Not only is he funny and kind, his lectures are paced well and easy to understand. He is accessible and wants to help you learn the material. He is very passionate about what he does. 10/10 recommend.
He was a great professor. I really like biology so maybe I'm a little biased, but he definitely makes the material interesting. Four exams, final can replace the lowest and each exam has bonus questions. In class activities were annoying so definitely go to class. Weekly PackBacks. As long as you study hard getting an A is very doable. Take him.
Mehari is a great professor who really cares about his students. He goes at the student's pace and is very willing to speak outside of class. He encourages students to review the tests and look for anything that may be wrong to add points back. The course and subject are hard, but he does his very best to make it easy and understandable. Take him!
This guy is not good. If you take him, make sure that you just find a quizlet made of his test and memorize it because actually studying the book and his power points will not help you at all. There is an in class quiz every. day. and the information comes from literally nothing so you have to rely on people around you knowing the answers to help.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had! He offers many online assignments that will help boost your grade. I would recommend going to his lectures because he sometimes does in-class quizzes that are only accessible by an access code that he provides during lecture. He is very helpful and always super happy to explain material! Take him!
Dr. Mehari seems to really be passionate about what he teaches, I just have zero interest in microbiology, so I found the class super boring. He can also be really hard to understand, but I do think he is a good teacher. He doesn't take attendance, but there are lots of quizzes.
Dr. Mehari is FANTASTIC! This class is hard, but he obviously knows what he's talking about and is very helpful. You don't need an excuse to take the make-up exams, but beware that they're harder than the original exam. Multiple times he's ended class early or extended a deadline because he could tell students were struggling and stressed. 10/10!!
What a great professor! I have struggled in previous biology based classes but Mehari has made this class enjoyable for me. He is so passionate about teaching and genuinely wants to help his students. if you get the chance, take his class! you won't regret it!
I really liked Dr. Mehari. He was clear about what he wanted, all of his tests are multiple choice, and he gives a lot of in class grades that are super easy and similar to the tests. I took him for honors and it was basically a 1 page paper every other week and no packbacks. He was interesting and was easy to get a hold of outside of class.
DO NOT take this class online!! It was very difficult and the study guides did not match up with what we were tested on. The exams are 60% of your grade so if you don't do well on those you are done for. The averages on every exam were lower than a 60 and little to no bonus points are given at least in the online class. Take in person if you can.
He's pretty good, you get to understand his accent better as the semester go on. The tests are pretty straightforward but the information level you need to know on the final is crazy. The final wasn't that hard but the material after test 3 was extensive. I would take again.
Mehari truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Micro isn't easy by any means but he gives you the info you need, its just up to you to study it. His lectures are fairly interesting. Packback weekly with an occasional txtbk homework and in class activities. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE FINAL THOUGH! Take him if you can. Funny guy.
He is a very kind person, but his lectures can get boring sometimes. That is the only reason why I said I wouldn't take again. Exams are fairly easy if you study, the final is harder because there is a lot of detailed material. Discussion board, homework, and in class quizzes. Also gives lots of extra credit opportunities in class.
This is my second time taking Dr. Mehari and I can confidently say he's a great professor to have. He makes lectures interesting and he has a sense of humor. He gives study guides for every exam and is quick to answer emails. You're gonna have to study a lot but that's expected. Don't expect a good grade without putting in effort for this class.
Good teacher. Lots of class activities. Exams were hard but not if you study. The only thing I will say is his final exam was extremely difficult which caused me to get a C in the class. He changed it from his other exams which I was not aware he would do or was prepared for. This was disappointing considering I had a B+ all semester.
How to get an A: get and study his old test. Easier said than done if you dont know somebody but its a must unless you want to put in an ungodly amount of hours studying.
Dr. Mehari is by far my favorite professor at Auburn. He strives to make lectures interesting and will crack jokes randomly throughout class. Many times, his jokes made the material more memorable. I highly recommend him; you still have to put the time into studying to do well in the course, but that should be expected in upper-level classes.
He is a great professor with interesting lectures. Tests are difficult but very doable if you put in the effort and study. There are assignments that he uses as participation checks but you don't have to be in class to take them. Do your best on these because they will significantly help your grade. Overall great professor, highly recommend!!!
Wonderful Professor. Lectures are extremely useful as he gives answers to example test question (not available outside of class). Go to lecture for InClass Activities/Quiz as they often have a code. He often will give extra credit questions on tests and will round on some things. I did not read for the class, but a lot of people found it helpful.
Mehari cares about his students, but if you aren't great at biology his class might be difficult, but I would recommend doing Quizlets from his study guides and you will be fine
Mehari is very knowledgeable and good at his job. Sometimes he's a little too good and will give some unnecessary information but overall he's worth your time. His accent makes it a little difficult to understand and therefore pay attention but this class was on the back burner for me compared to the others and I still ended with an A.
I loveeee Dr. Mehari! The class requires a good amount of studying but Microbiology really is fascinating and you can tell how passionate he is by how he lectures. He is HILARIOUS. Just come to class, do the extra credit, don't miss your homework, and you will do great. I got a B because I didn't lock in lol but I still LOVED this class.
LOVE this man. He is so funny, passionate, and generous with credit. I got a B because I didn't lock in lol but just come to class, do some reasonable studying, and don't miss out on packback (free points) or other homework. Class is pretty hard but Micro is FASCINATING. zero complaints from me.
I took for Biology 1000 this semester his test are impossible the highest grade I got on a exam was a 68. His notes do not reflect what is on his exams at all. Treats his Bio 1000 class like we are his higher biology class. Can be difficult to understand at times but really not that bad. I would recommend staying away from his class for Bio 1000.
I love Dr. Mehari. He makes a difficult class very fun. He is funny and his lectures are always engaging. If you go to class and study hard you will do well in the class. His tests are very fair and all multiple choice and he always has a couple bonus opportunities on the test and in class.
Dr. Mehari is clearly very knowledgeable about his field. Most of class is lectures, tests are not difficult if you study the textbook and study guides he provides. Attendance was mandatory (taken through TopHat), but attendance was also worth 20% of your grade and he did not accept any excuses until changing his policy halfway through the semester
Yohannes Mehari was my favorite professor at Auburn. He loves what he does and is very knowledgeable in microbiology. His lectures were easy to listen to and follow along too. I loved him!!!!
Mehari was a good professor but it is clear why he only teaches higher end biology. Participation is important and despite that he allows a cheat sheet for exams, it is not easy whatsoever. Make sure to ask questions, participate, take good notes, read the chapters, and study.
Exams are very fair if you know the material. He loves the subject and is very knowledgeable. The in-class quizzes and outside-of-class homework somewhat prepare you for exam-like questions. He also does weekly packbacks. 4 exams and the final is cumulative. Great class, definitely recommend it.
This class was actually so hard. Attendance is very mandatory and he's not lenient or understanding at all about absences or late work. Theres no extra credit. The exams are crazy but he does offer a set makeup day for every exam. We were allowed to have a cheat sheet but it didnt help much. The homework assignments take sooooo long.
Tough class, but gives opportunities to do well. Exams have questions with tricky wording that makes them hard. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are in-class activities and participation questions that will help your grade and are very similar to test questions. Very nice guy, but will have to study a lot to do well. I recommend his class tho!
I was in his first class of BIOL1000, his first time teaching the course and it was pretty rough. He's only taught higher level biology course and has a hard time effectively teaching a 1000 level class. Exams are extremely thorough and cover almost ever detail of the slides. Do NOT take him if youre just trying to get a science credit with bio.
Dr. Mehari is a great professor who cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He gives hard tests and is heavy on class lectures. His lectures mostly consists of PowerPoints so if you memorize those you should be good for tests. He offers in class extra credit, and will help you boost your grade. Highly recommend.
Amazing microbiology professor. Fun lectures and attendance is more encouraged than required. Tests aren't horrible if you are prepared as he tells you what you need to know.
He is the sweetest ever! If you stay on top of the material and actually come to class, you will be just fine. Put in the work outside of class and don't fall behind, or you will not succeed. The exams are hard, especially the 3rd. He is kind and wants his students to succeed. Also really funny! Totally would recommend taking him!!
This class is not difficult. However, Mehari spends over half the class talking about unrelated material, primarily complaining about AI or cell phones. There are topics he didn't get to so the topics became extra credit. The lectures are boring and sometimes not beneficial, but I can't complain because the class is not hard.
I really enjoyed Dr. Mehari this semester, but one thing I will say is to take notes during class. He does provide slideshows but he also says a lot in class that is important but not covered in the slideshows. If I had taken in depth notes from the beginning I probably would have an A in the class currently.
I loved Mehari, I was so nervous about taking microbiology but he made it so much fun and the lectures are enjoyable. His test are fair and he gives a lot of opportunity for extra credit. Study his slides and understand the information and you will be fine.
I LOVED Mehari, he is such a nice man and just wants his students to get something out of his class. Beware of his final because it is not as easy as the first three exams. 10/10 professor
Great guy. Lectures are boring but you have the material for you to study makes it where there are decent filler grades and doesn't put as much focus on tests like other professors although it is a big chunk 60% with the final. Really a great guy but you have to pay attention and study the slideshows to get an A in the class
I love Dr. Mehari and would take him for every class if I could. He is such a caring and hilarious professor and one of the best lecturers. Exams are easy if you attend class! If he teaches Microbial Evolution & Diversity again, definitely take him!
Dr. Mehari was so kind and his class was very doable to receive an A. While attendance is not mandatory, he does in-class activities/quizzes at least once a week, so if you are not in class you would miss those points. His exams were very doable and from the powerpoints. Definitely take him!
Yo were those photos neccesary? I needed ti skip those slides before the final cause they were very VERY disturbing.
Dr. Mehari was amazing, and did a great job of simplifying this class to an understandable level. Was it difficult? Obviously, its a 3000 level biology class. Was it as difficult as it could have been? No. He has a few pop quizzes and assignments, so go to lecture and pay attention. All of the exams are straight forward, final is tough though.
He was absolutely amazing and is my favorite professor at Auburn. I had him for 3200 and he makes difficult content easy to understand. He is super funny and throws jokes into every lecture, making them so much fun! There are a couple in class quizzes, but you can use the help of anyone around you, the teaching assistants, and google. Take him!
He was great! I barely went to class and just read the slides and still made an A. He did have a few pop quizzes that you needed to attend class for, but he drops the 2 lowest quiz grades. Still go to class though. Exams are straightforward...if you know the material, you will do fine. He's also very funny!
Super nice guy! Took him for micro and cell bio. I really enjoyed his class and recommend him to everyone. His testa are fair and really cares about his students. He also is hilarious.
Dr. Mehari is probably one of the best professors I have had at auburn. He is super funny and his exams are very fair. Nothing is put on the exam unless we talked about it in class. He also gives us concept questions that help prepare us for exams.
This prof is kind and is very respected. He knows his stuff and explains things very well if you need the extra help. I personally struggle on his exams but there are some homeworks and in class grades which help keep me at a B. I will say sometimes we go too slow and dont get through all the content or he simplifies it where there's missing info.
Not very kind if you miss an in class activity regardless of the excuse. Fine lecturer but the accent can be hard sometimes because he does not use a mic and you can struggle to hear him in the back. Tests are easy enough if you study the lectures and quizzes. Does randomly do in class activities to promote attendance
MY KING! LOVE HIM SO MUCH! Tests aren't that hard if you study and look over quizzes. Does ICA to enhance attendance, but you can do them from home. Kinda difficult to understand but not terrible. Nothing bad to say about him fr, final exam was kinda hard, but that's about it.
BIOl 3207: Only difference is you are doing deep dive packbacks on your chosen bacteria almost every other week- overwhelming at first but not bad. Uses the same tests throughout the years mostly. Attendance isn't technically required but has in class activities often. Thoroughly enjoyed having him as my professor- funny. Lab- readings are hard.
I very much enjoyed this professor. He truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. His lectures were very fun and not boring. Although, tests were difficult.
I had him for bio 1020 and he was a very knowledgeable teacher. His exams are hard if you do not fully understand the material.
Loved having Dr. Mehari for Microbio. He's a funny guy and does his best to keep lectures engaging. You will likely have to study a good amount to do well, but I thought most of the content was interesting. Very worth it, would absolutely recommend him for any bio class.
His tests are far more complicated than the textbook and lectures, and he does not provide enough in-depth explanation. Curved exams by four points at most, even when class average was 50s-60s. Said we needed to "understand the material" while not explaining what that actually means, and said he would tell us how to study for his exams, never did.
Dr.Mehari is an incredible professor! He is a super sweet and genuine guy who clearly cares about what he teaches. The tests are not horrible as long as you study the lecture slides (the final is definitely the hardest test of the 4 though). There are in class assignments but you can do them from home if you get the code.
Dr. Mehari made a difficult class very doable. His tests are fair and he has a lot of other grades outside just tests. I really enjoyed having him this semester.
Dr. Mehari clearly cares about what he teaches as well as his students performance in his class! He is fair and his exams are doable as long as you put in the work to succeed. There are extra assignments in addition to exams that cushion your grade. Overall 10/10!!
BIO1020 - Dr. Mehari is the best, he truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. I found the class difficult and had to study hard for an A, but I believe that was just because of the BIO curriculum, not Mehari. He is hilarious in class and loves to get students engaged. He drops the lowest grades in every category even tests!!
Great professor, explained it all so well and made microbio interesting. He was so sweet too. Was it the easiest class? No, but study some, esp. w/flashcards and you'll be fine. He also drops lowest homework, quiz, and will replace an exam w/final. You do have weekly PackBack and an in-class quiz every class.
Didn't believe the AUEvaluate message he showed on the FDOC that said he was the Grinch, BUT NOW I DO. Less than 1 point away from a B in his class and had emailed him multiple times about it and got no response. Super rude over email. Go to class or else you'll miss the in class activities that are EVERY. SINGLE. CLASS. So many slides as well.
Spends most of his lecture time rambling about unrelated topics, so much so that he ended up giving us over 8 points back on the final due to things he never covered in class. So many in class activities, slides, and his study guides are very broad. He must be writing half of these reviews himself.
very nice and willing to work with you. lots of in class assignments so make sure not to miss and packbacks
Dr. Mehari is very clearly very smart, and that makes his lectures more complicated than they need to be. He is very funny and kind, but its clear he doesn't remember what it's like to be an intro student. Be sure to ask for study guides if you can, he'll make them and it is SO HELPFUL. Study the slides and you'll be fine, but put in the work.
During lecture, you think it is going to be okay. THE LECTURES DO NOT COVER THE MATERIAL. The TEST IS RIDICULOUS- the topics just simply are not explained-it is so in depth. He legit said "I AM NOT A TEACHER" in class- then it all made sense. People that did well said they got copies of the test. Dr. Mehari just does not teach.
Doctor Mehari was a great professor. He made the long lectures bearable with his jokes and thorough explanations. The concepts aren't the most difficult, but it is easy to fall behind. Keep up with notes throughout the semester and study hard for the tests! Mehari is difficult, but fair.
Professor Yohannes was a good professor, and you could tell he cared about his students. He responds quickly to emails, and is very detailed and caring when responding. Be prepared to work your butt off though, and study a lot. It's not just memorizing, like you have to know how processes work. Good class though. Would avoid taking in summer.
Dr. Mehari's a funny guy. One time I asked him for advice on how to study for exams, and he gave me an elaborate explanation of making webs and connections between pieces of material, and that sums him up pretty well. He definitely wants to help you, and I always enjoyed the little jokes he would crack here and there.
