Very intelligent and knowledgeable. Goes off on long tangents, but interesting discussions. Take!
Yolanda is a brilliant teacher, very clever, has great sense of humor and makes you really interested in topics.
Dr. Bellisimo is a top notch prof. University style lectures, answers all questions. She is extremely knowledgable. Supportive, respectful and intelligent. She is not afraid to express her own views, while still respecting others'.
Do not miss this professor!!!
Great, clever with an awesome sense of humor. Extremely democratic! She will talk to you as you are a graduate student. You will have 2 blue book mid and final essays +one term project. Take good notes, don't waste$$ on text book.
She's an awesome intelligent woman - yes, very democratic. But she knows what she's talking about! And is extremely capable of teaching students! I LOVED her class!
The whole class is basedclass notes. You don't have to read a word from any book, but you have to take good notes and be in class everyday. Your whole grade is based on only three essays, so you should be a good writer. She's a good teacher though and her lectures are really interesting.
Bellisimo’s class was one that I enjoyed a lot. She was a very knowledgeable and humorous woman that made the material very interesting by relating it to current events in politics. If students attend class consistently and take good notes, they should not have no problem getting a good grade.
Good teacher, very funny and very interesting lectures. didn't really use the book, take good notes, go to class and u got an easy A.
great teacher
Dr Bellisimo holds interesting lectures, although does tend to go off on tangents. Generally, if you want a good mark, all you need to do is attend lectures and take good notes, you don't need the textbooks. Very little work outside class other than one assignment (plus studying for exams).

it was awesome, if you like lectures, she opened the world for me

shes a great teaacher. i learned alot from her.
Yolanda is a super proff. If you are intersted in Politics or history and don't like reading boring texts, but prefer conversation and learning through good lectures and stories then she is a dream!!! If you aren't, then just follow the advice given by the other reviewers here and her class will be quite manageable.
The best teacher I had at COM. If you think multiple choice tests are stupid, take her classes. She encourages conversation and discussion and gets you thinking. You must attend class on a regular basis. Also, if you don't like to write papers, you might want to skip this class. Usually one mid-term and one final or an in class essay. Papers tend t
i took this class in the summer session, so the layout will be diff. from a regular class. TONS of note taking, but the teachings were interesting and very applicable to the every day person's life. i understand SO much more about politics now. she explains things well, so that you can remember and apply them to yourself. she didnt use a book, for this class which was AWESOME! essays for both the midterm and final, and NO HOMEWORK!! i would def. take her again.
Great personality, and very little homework. A text book isn't even recomended. Just come to class, take notes; or, in lieu of that, leave an audio recorder on her desk. If you take notes, you are going to take more than 3 pages/class. Since she doesn't use the txtbk, this is not the class you can ditch, and review the book before the test.
Great teacher, with really great class discussions. She really knows her stuff
fun teacher. only mid term test and final. no HW. smart which makes her sexy.
She is awesome. Take a class from her! She makes lectures "fun". She is also a very fair grader.
One of the best instructors the College has to offer! She is enthusiastic, open-minded and quite fair. She wants nothing more, than for her students to succeed! I adore her and highly recommend her!
My hands hurt so bad after every class session...I just kept writing, writing&writing.and she speaks millions of words in a minute. But, possible mid term and final questions were handed out to students 2 weeks before, which helped us very much to prepare for the tests. I almost got an A w/o knowing anything about USA Goven't, but needed efforts!
All she does is lecture, but lectures are fun and easy to understand. One must take lots of notes to sucessfully complete the fun midterm and finals. Makes history interesting. Goes off on weird tangents. Gives you the gritty and painfully true aspect of history. Excellent class. Easy to pass.
She's very knowledgable, class is all lecture. She is clear, funny, and upbeat. Her tests are serious, but she does great study guides. She's an awesome professor!!!
Yolanda is a good teacher but is liberally biased. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will be sorry if you miss class because the tests are solely based on her lectures. I did not use the book at all for this class. Also there is no homework except for one outline assignment.
Her classes are very insightful
Yolanda is a great story teller so I enjoyed her lectures. Tests are challenging but if you show up to class and take a lot of notes, you will be prepared. She isn't easy, but great professor's never are. I highly recommend her.
my hand hurt after her class. no reference to the textbook, her tests were all based on notes, essay questions only. i had no background in polisci, so i was so lost in her class all the time. wished she knew that that's an intro class...wouldn't recommend it unless you're good note taker.
do yourselves a favor and take paul cheney's class.
Very straight forward teacher. Take this class if you're going to be there all the time and can take good notes. You don't use the text at all. It's all based off of her lectures!
This teachers tests are completely ridiculous for an introductory government class. She talks a mile a minute and you basically need to write everything she says in order to pass her tests. She is very intelligent when is comes to politics, but she's not good at teaching it. I would not recommend her at all.
I want to grow up and be like yollanda =) intelligent, interesting and knowlegable about the topic she is teaching and teaches it with enthusiasm! but be warned this is taught like a true college course, test are based on lecture notes...attendance is not mandatory but you will need the notes for the midterm and final.
she was the worst, she does no6t talk about things in order, she talks way too fast and you have to write down everything. she talks about her kids often and tells the same stories, she also talks about politics for entire classes sometimes and gets angry when you don't agree.
I am taking Comparative Political systems with Yolanda, and she is one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to politics that I have ever met. But this class is HARD. I would recommend this class to someone who already knows a lot about politics. It really should have had a prerequisite.
Her intelligence is questionable. In addition, she does not know what's going on in her class. She is very withdrawn with how she lectures, although she doesn't mind doing it. I respect her for giving blue book exams that make her class hard, but she needs to know what she's doing.
Very good instructor. Everything is from lectures, so you *must* attend class, but I never opened the textbook. Take extensive notes and the assignments are straight forward. I really enjoyed her style and knowledge and felt like I really learned quite a lot in this class.
This is a class where you have to be there every single day. Everything word that comes out of her mouth will be used in the essays she assigns. Take the most detailed notes you can. Beware: she talks really fast. The only reason I recieved an incomplete is because i didn't take good enough notes.
I've took couple classes with Yolanda! I love her classes! I've learned much from her! She is easy grader. Does not demand to buy a book because it is pricey! She is very open, talk about everything, from politics to family. For me she is a story teller who is a great teacher. She loves politics and it is a strong point in her class.
she's smart but needs to create a different syllabus and outline for the class. the whole class is note taking, very few assignments (midterm & final) + 2 in front of the class assignments. (unreasonable amount of pages required for essays) won't know your name even by the end of the class. But she's a nice person! GOOD LUCK!!
Interesting lectures but must be excellent note-taker. This lady talks a mile a minute, many students had tape-recorders. Grade is broken down based on 3 things only, if mess up one you won't pass. The notes were extremely hard to study from and if you don't know anything about politics beforehand, this is not a good place for beginners.
Everything is based on Yolanda's very interesting, but very fast paced lectures -so you've got to be a great note taker. She likes discussions, but her assignments are REALLY college level - no slacking here! If you work hard, you can get an A, but slack off a little, a C or lower is in your life
i absolutely loved her class! she is very knowledgeable and keeps the class interesting. there is a lot of note taking but you will learn a lot!
First of all... I had her for hist. 117 and poli sci 110 .. i just barely passed her hist. class, only because I knew people in the class and it was a huge help doing it as a team rather than individually. she's rude, she doesn't want to answer and questions and she hasn't changed her syllabus in nearly 30 years. HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST TAKING HER
talks RIDICULOUSLY fast, and expects you to be able to get all that down. exams are based on lectures only...therefore most people are screwed since she talks 10,000,000 words per minute. her exam expectations are absurd. from all of the classes I've taken at COM, I've never seen a teacher put such unreasonable expectations on students. UGH.
First of you are really screwed if you don't come to class. She only talks and does not use any books. I really liked her class and if you show up and take notes you pass the class, just have to suck it up! It's not highschool any more... She helps you out if you ask her to.
You don't need the book. She DOES talk very fast- but usually repeats important things 2-3 times. You gotta be a good note taker or bring your laptop! She's usually late to class. She doesn't care if you don't show, but you will!! I had no interest in taking government, but now I find it the most interesting and useful class and apply it everyday.
I love Yolanda! Be prepared to just listen and take copious notes. This may be different but with no textbook you save a ton of $. Great political teacher, especially if you happen to be a liberal (this is Marin after all!)
Goes on tangents a lot during class. Very liberally biased in all of her classes. Then again, so are her students. Mostly talks and talks. You might want to run a fact-check on her lectures; she makes mistakes and doesn't exactly get things right. No moderate ground in her lectures: it's all left-leaning. She's very nice tho. Take it for the credit
Great teacher. She is passionate and precise. Clearly loves what she does and is always around to help. Comparative Politics can be challenging but it definitely keeps you up to date with world politics and discussions can get heated which I personally like. Highly Recommended
Great class, interesting lectures
She's awesome! Clear, interesting & conversational. She loves what she does and it comes through. She is left leaning but offers both sides and is fair in her education, never swaying us one way or another. No book needed as she tests straight from lectures, so attendance is a Must!! Im loving a topic that I never had any interest in before!
Yolanda is super passionate about this class. You don't need to purchase the book. You will be taking a lot of notes but she gives you the test questions in advance which are all in class essays. She is thorough and very clear. She goes on random tangents but they are funny and somehow connect back to the topic at hand. She's inspiring!
Took her for American History. What a great teacher, she was very kind and made the class super interesting. She really went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable and welcome in her class. I have always had a very difficult time in school, so getting an A in this class was a huge accomplishment. Shows you how much a good teacher can make it!
Great professor. Very clear of what she expects. Also the class is like a story which makes it very interesting. Do as she says by putting the work and effort into the class and you will do well.
I attended her courses in 1979. She has had a big impact on my life and inspired me to go further with my education and do my best. I was proud to see her in the audience when I gave my Valedictory address to my graduating class and my professors at USF in '83 barich2014 dot com
Clear, intelligent, beautiful - Bellisimo is a great professor.
finals are based on lecture
I like Mrs. Bellisimo because her classes are fun and also interesting. She has a passion for political science and is also very well-informed about current political issues and news. Overall I am happy to haver her as my political science teacher.
knowledgeable. fun lady. lectures are engaging and highly informative. would def take a class with her again. came aware much more informed than when i arrived.
Yolanda understands that this is a community college and therefore teaches not only to the material, but to prepare students for their courses at Uni. She is clearly bright, and wants to help. She seems a little tired of teaching, but if you attend and engage, she perks right up. I learned a lot in her class and would definitely recommend her.
if you don't do well with just lectures do not take this class.
Yolanda not only teaches really well but also learns from her students. Doing class assignments felt important, rather than writing a paper that would be forgotten. She's super nice but don't think the class is easy-- you have to manage your time or the work will get overwhelming.
I took Poly Sci 102 with her and absolutely loved her. She really understands what she is talking about and breaks it down for students. She is hilarious, fun, and very helpful. Her class is simple: listen, take good notes, and show what you learned on the essay tests- TEST QUESTIONS GIVEN BEFOREHAND. Highly recommend her.
You are graded on three things; the midterm, a 6 page paper, and the final. Her lectures are given orally (and she talks VERY fast) and she expects you to keep up and write down everything she says. VERY harsh grader and can be very rude. Wouldn't suggest taking her class.
POLISCI class amidst of this bizarre election was fun, informative and straight forward. Whoever says professors are 'TOUGH' or "HARD" remember this is University prep work, its not supposed to be a walk in the park!! Thank you Yolo.B
DON'T BUY THE BOOK, YOU WONT NEED IT AT ALL. Yolanda is an awesome professor and I loved her teaching style. She has a great sense of humor also. Your notes MATTER & you turn a selected topic in once. Then there's the midterm and final. The notes you and your classmates turn in become study guides which has it's pros and cons. Make sure to show up
Had her for two classes this semester, loved both of them! She isn't a stickler for attendance. Her classes are all lecture and you should try to be there as often as possible to take notes to help for your midterms and final (only 2 things graded on). NO PHONES! Very personable and kind and loves good participation. One of my favorite professors!
I took two classes with Yolanda. She doesn't give out busywork and grades only on two or three assignments-- sometimes there's only one test in the whole year. Her classes are good introductions to Poli Sci, but if you already know the basics she can get a little repetitive. Way too patient with students who ask stupid questions.
Time-waster: class is spent mostly off topic about her political opinions/past. Shows up late always with Starbucks. When notes are written on board they aren't clear. Take notes to pass. Never used textbook/readings. Few assignments but they make up your whole grade.
Doesn't care if you come to class form not. Ditch as much as you want Yolanda do not care but YOU WILL FAIL. Don't sit and text on your phone you will get kicked out. If you don't take notes the whole class you will not do well. You need to give 100% attention or you will fail. Two assignments the entire semester but midterm and final count a lot.
You must come to every single class and be completely engaged or you will not do well. Your grade consists of primarily a mid-term and final in-class essay , which are entirely based on the lectures. However, the material is pretty simple and Yolanda explains it well, so if you consistently come to class and take good notes, you can get an A.
95% of the lecture material appears on the midterm and final test you'll get, there's 2 papers but they aren't anything special unless you really don't know how to write a 5 page essay. She doesn't like it when people are on their phones during lecture and will tell you to leave if you are on it. Her lectures are amazing but a little biased.
I learned a lot. Almost every class was lecture-oriented, but if you know how to take notes, you'll really enjoy it. You're graded by participation and by 2 tests (mid-term & final) which are essay questions, but you're allowed 1/2 pg. of notes, so don't stress too much. I found this class fascinating and loved the way it was taught.
This class was lecture heavy but she gave good lectures that made the content easier to understand. She had a clear grading criteria, based only on participation, the mid-term and final (you were allowed a 1/2 note sheet for the tests, which were essay questions). There were also a lot of notes that had to be taken. I would recommend this teacher.
Yolanda is a great prof. She was so helpful and really cared about individual circumstances. Her lectures are straight forward and she has handouts that help even more. In my class, we had an essay, midterm, essay, then final. Not much to grade on, but everything is easy especially with a test note sheet. The class is democratically focused. its ca
Professor expects you to record her lectures because she speaks so fast you won't be able to take notes during class. She doesn't use the textbook at all (good thing I didn't buy it). She's very biased and can also be really rude and always comes in late with her Starbucks. I love politics but this class made me hate it. Wouldn't recommend her.
Hard Grader, and she talks real too fast and if you don't pay attention you will FAIL. Graded by a few things. Will never recommend.
I hate politics but I love this lecture class. Take the class if you can follow along lectures, and are able to take good reliable notes. She's only given 2 assignments plus midterm and final. She's really wonderful to talk to in & out the class. She makes an effort to explain things and relate them to current events. If your new to polisci take it
One of the absolutely most entertaining, and enlightening teachers I've ever had the privilege to study under. Without doubt, I'm her worst student (without dropping) of all time. How many failed years? Still came back for more.. personal failure. Uni doesn't compare to education on this level. Big projects, but lots of time to work on em.
Only take her if you know you can handle a class that is 100% lecturing and note-taking (except POLS 102, which involves some student presentations). If you don't pay attention and take good notes, you will struggle. Attendance is not mandatory, but skipping class is a very bad idea. Only a couple of assignments, so make sure you do them well.
Great class to better understand system of government in the US and how our voting system works. She is clear in her directions and expectations and her assignments are fairly easy to complete so long as you follow the directions. She is passionate and willing to work with you to insure your success.
not only surprisingly uninformed and unoriginal, but incomparably dull.
I enjoyed Mrs. Yolanda Bell's class.
