Professor Hurgobin is simply amazing. She really cares about your success. She is always trying to help you understand fully and makes you feel comfortable to ask questions. For Modern World History there were two papers but were not difficult. I would love to have her again and highly recommend!!
Lectures were typically VERY boring, there is new reading each week, she can become irritated if information isn't absorbed quickly by student and will call you out, the way that she lectures and writes on the board makes notes impossible to take (Arrows EVERYWHERE), two fairly easy papers, and above average test. Participation is also a must.
She really cares about students and their learning. She does lectures super heavy, every lecture is fast and packed with information. however, she tells you exactly what she expects. We had two papers and two exams and participation grade. It's just an average college class.
This class was easy if you read the book and attend class. She does post the powerpoints online, but she shares a lot more information in class. There are 2 papers and 2 tests. She also counts attendance/participation as a grade. Only negative was she takes a long time to put in grades. Very easy to reach through email with any questions.
Good professor; she cares about her students but will make you work for it. Grade is made up of two papers, attendance (she'll fail you if you miss more than three classes), a midterm, and a final. She throws a lot of information at you and expects you to know quite a bit, so be prepared to study.
Great teacher, not organized on board, but is available to help and responds to email quickly. I didnt read or pay attention in class but studied in a group ( shared google doc) and got high Bs on the midterm and final. Tests are based on study guide, fill those out and you'll pass.
She is very knowledgeable on the topic my class had 4 grades each 25 points 2 papers, attendance and participation, and the final. This grade would be hire but one thing gets in the way. The fact paper one still hasnt been graded by the date we submit paper 2 so i cant learn from my mistakes and fix them.
There are 2 papers. She is knowledgeable and gives informative lectures. I asked her to read two drafts of my paper and she gave me good feedback.
Professor Hurgobin knows what she is teaching, but she is very lecture heavy. It also takes her a very long time to put in grades, and she doesn't upload material when she says she will. I took her spring semester and didn't get my first grade until the end of March.
Professor Hurgobin definitely knows what she is talking about! She is lecture heavy so be sure to pay attention and respond to her questions. She'll start to learn names as the semester goes on! Very sweet and she tries to make little jokes during the slides. She is always open to talk during office hours. She was one of my favorites this semester.
She definitely knows what she's talking about and makes class interesting. Very lecture heavy. There's only two papers and a final exam, so final grade can be highly affected if you do poorly on one thing. Only complaint is that she is a very slow grader, my paper that was turned in at beginning of spring semester wasn't graded until March.
She is very knowledgeable, passionate and taught us how to understand historical context as opposed to dates & events. She is so kind and really cares; will remember each student's name; doesn't force anything and will get really excited when people participate in discussion.
She was a good professor but got really boring at times because of how long and lengthy her lectures were. You only have 2 papers and a final and you have a lot of homework too. She takes attendance so show up to class & be prepared to take notes fast and be able to listen to long lectures and learn at the same time
If you like history I would take her but if history bores you dont take her. Her lectures are very boring and she takes forever to put in grades. Attendance is mandatory. But she will help you on the papers if you need it
I thought I wasn't going to enjoy this class because I do n't really care for history, however I really liked her class. You honestly can get away with not coming to class because she posts all her lectures and discussions online, and if you read the textbook you will be ok. Be in class when she discusses essays tho because it'll help on the papers
if you love yourself please do not take this class. She takes forever to grade papers, she barely responds to emails and her lectures are not clear. There is not one time I've left her class understanding what she taught. This class was hard for no reason and its only a gen ed.
If you like history she has a good perspective and tries to stay as objective as possible but if you don't like history then its just a boring class. She grades very late and when she gives a feedback, she changes your whole paper, which is kind of annoying.
Professor Hurgobin is a solid choice for those who are already comfortable with history and want to learn the subject. Grading is simple, but grading time is awful, you won't know your grade until the day they're due, but she will post paper grades fairly soon so you Get an idea. Pretty light HW for a whole semester. Very funny and means well.
I recommend this class to students who work well independently. The class is made up of two papers, the final, and attendance/ participation. Youll need to put in the work to receive an A. I heavily recommend sending Professor Hurbogin drafts of your papers before submitting; she gives very helpful feedback. Great Professor but slow grader.
She is very bright and good with the way she explains things. Posts everything online. Discusses essays. Final exam was easy; she had discussed so much earlier. Each time, I went to her for my two papers.
She is very sweet and helpful even outside of class. Her lectures are lengthy and boring but what do you expect with world history. 2 big papers, 6 one page assignments, a presentation, and a final. Forget ever knowing your grade because she doesn't grade anything but your two papers until finals week. Study for the final or it will kick your butt!
There is one essay, and two essay tests as your grade. Lectures are heavy but she makes it very interesting for a history class. She gives a study guide and goes over the information for the test very thoroughly. So if you write down what she says the essay tests are an easy A. Honestly was an amazing professor and would definitely take her again
She is quite amazing. She tries to make the topics fun. The study guides and her reviews are very helpful. Just listen to her and she will explain how to get an A. She has strange ways to explain complex things (chocolate cookie!). And yes, she posts all the slides online.
This class honestly is hard for those who struggle with Essay's. 1st major assignment is a 1 page Essay, which is fine. Then you have the behemoth 5 page essay, of which is for 1 of 3 topics that only give you enough information for at least 3 pages worth. To finish it off, the first Exam and Final Exam has you write 3 page Essays; TAKE AT OWN RISK
Shes all over the place during her lectures, expects participation during class or you get a 0 in that category which is 20% of your grade. Assigns a paper that if you dont follow instructions clearly then I guess you get a 0 on that which is 25% of your grade. Dont take her class
I don't know what these other people are on. Professor Hurgobin is very intelligent, but unless you're a historian, you're probably going to find her class very boring. You learn about Chinese dynasties for about 2 months. Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
She is very good. The study guides are very helpful. If you just listen to her, you will pass. Otherwise, not really.
I dont know if she is boring or if it's the subject. But she's super bright. She tries to make jokes here and there. If you go to her, she will explain all the answers. She can be very strict sometimes. It will be an easy class if you take good notes during lectures. During lectures she also say what might be on exam.
This professor is very knowledgable about what she is talking about; however, the material is very boring especially because this is a gen ed class. She gives one paper, one essay test, and the final is an essay test as well. She gives you everything you need to make a good grade on the exams if you study. Participation counts so you have to talk.
Dr. Hurgobin knows her stuff. She gives long (and sometimes boring) lectures. Participation is a part of your grade, so participate. The test are fairly easy because the study guides well prepare you for them. She tells you exactly what you need to know. We wrote one paper, but she will gladly edit it if you go to her before the due date.
Dr. Hurgobin isn't the best when it comes to teaching lectures just because English isn't her first language, but she will explain better if you ask questions. It's not too big of a deal. She's been the second easiest professor that I've had this semester, grading wise. She tells you what will be on the exams and gives a very detailed study guide.
One paper two exams. Exams easy, the study guides are thorough and her review was super helpful. The comment on English is strange and irrelevant. She used complex academic English words when she lectures. Then she will reframe points in plain English. She really wants students to do well. If you go to her, she will definitely help.
This professor gives you a 5 page essay as well as 2 more Essays for her 2 exams. Despite giving you everything you need for both exams, you are going to not get an A easily on her exams. At the same time, if writing is not something you are good at, then Don't take this professor. She isn't bad by how she teaches, her exams are her only negative.
Very nice woman. She seems intimidating but she has great lectures & goes into a lot of detail & will answer questions during lectures. She cares a lot about participation & cares that you actually understand her material. Gives study guides. Exams seem intimidating but if you study theyre easy. Shes very passionate about her class.
I took this class my second semester and honestly she is one of the worst professors ever. It is hard to stay motivated in her class because she posts all her notes online, but still attendance was mandatory. She grades you on your midterm, final, an essay, and homework that is due at the most random times. She does not remind you about homework.
If you take notes you will get an A or B. She emphasizes/repeats information that will be on the test during lectures so listen up! READ all the sources and answer the questions that come with it before the in-class discussion. That way, you'll know both the info for participation and the exams. Overall a great experience in her class.
She was a nice professor but she has to grow on you. But if you're looking for an easy A go somewhere else because she is not it. The tests are completely open ended and the essays are graded harshly. Attendance is also important in your grade. Even though the grading is harsh, she is very clear on what is needed to be successful in her class.
Attendance, Final, & Midterm are 25% each. Quiz is 10 & one other paper is 15. Show up to every class & participate (online discussions too) to get an A for 25%. She gives you the EXACT test a week before the exams so you can prepare. Shes designed her class to make sure you get an A. All you have to do is your part to make sure you get one.
There was some disruption with Coronavirus online teaching. She still taught the class like a boss. You must listen to what she says in lecture. She really wants you to participate (25%). I didnt think I would get an A. I didnt think I would get an A. But I emailed her to read my paper and final exam. She may seem strict and harsh but means well.
A great TEACHER. That means she actually teaches, and I actually learned in her class. She is a fair grader too, just follow directions and try and you will be fine.
Professor Hurgobin was a great professor. Her lectures are engaging and interesting. If you show up, pay attention, participant and you your work you will be fine. Ask questions! She answers them thoroughly and gives answers for the study guide. You always know what to expect on the midterm and final. Solid choice for a professor.
Dr. Yoshina Hurgobin is a mediocre prof and her class instructions are terrible. Half of her assignments make 0 sense and require several emails to get a clear answer. Class itself isn't difficult but it will give you a headache.
I had to take her online bc of the pandemic. She takes forever to get to the point on lectures and has unnecessarily strict essay requirements. Very boring. I feel like I'm not learning anything and I like history. Mainly lectures and reading. Also she doesn't grade so no one knows how they're actually doing in class. Take another professor.
I was in her online class due to the pandemic. I can't speak for in-person classes, but I don't think it's any different. All of her essays have very strict criteria. For ex: Our class had to write an essay which was EXACTLY 1000 words, not 999, not 1001, but exactly 1000. Her lectures are very disengaging. They are superslow. Pick another prof.
Dr H is not a bad professor. Slow grader and organization isn't great. It's not easy to navigate her online content bc she is not always consistent what she places where. Her course is more intellectual than most in that she addresses theoretical points and explores more deeply what certain terms mean.
She could use with some organization and less homework. She is quite boring in the lectures, they are super long but very helpful for assignments. But she's actually a great professor and it was somewhat simple to take this course
I didn't think I would get an A. She reads your paper if your email her. She is on the lowkey side and will help you if you email her. I took this during the pandemic.
I suggest you find a different teacher for online classes. She posts lectures that don't make sense. She showed a picture of Padme Amidala from Star Wars and said she was a good example of "Mongol dress". She has an accent and talks extremely slow. Doesn't respond to emails, and lacks communication with students. We're all in GroupMe confused.
slowest, dullest lectures i've ever heard-- HAD to listen to them on 2x speed and even then it was too slow. there are papers not listed in the syllabus that make up half of your test grades. the groupme did nothing but complain about this class all semester. However, she gives good study guides at least. don't take her though.
The lectures were very slow and long. But she gives good feedback on the response paper. Easy A if you just follow the instruction and email her
On the very boring side. Two exams, one response paper and quizzes. Clear on what she wants for essays. Email her and ask her to help you.
Extremely boring. She provides power points and recorded lectures but they are very long. Just forward the lectures.
Professor Yoshina Hurgobin is VERY lecture heavy, very long and boring. The lectures are very important though, as she goes in to deep detail on each slide of the powerpoint so DO NOT miss class. She is great at preparing you for quizzes and tests she gives great study guides just make sure you go to class. She had a fairly easy midterm!
Strengths include her knowledge on the subject, informative PowerPoints/lectures, and great feedback. Challenges her students to not only know the content, but to also understand the significance of it. Lectures can be boring. VERY heavy. Go to class and youll be fine. She explains everything in depth, and is always ready to answer questions.
Attendance is mandatory, you sign a sheet every day. Her lectures are very long and can get very boring. She literally goes over the quizzes and all the answers though, same with the midterm and final. Quizzes are online so just write down the answers she says in class, but midterm/final are in person so it's basically memorization for those.
Professor Hurgobin was a very nice lady. She was just hard to understand at times, but nothing too bad. She is very lecture-heavy and attendance is mandatory. She grades you off of quizzes, map exercises, attendance, and participation. All of those things aren't bad at all but her midterm and final are the WORST. They are both all written.
Dr. H is the boss. Very knowledgeable. Sometimes too technical and detailed. She wants you to do well and will coach you well for midterm and final (both written in class). Downside: lectures very long and very boring. Just to go class and sign attendance sheet. She is actually very nice. She will seem strict and harsh at beginning.
IN this class its not only class attendance but participation. You cannot just sign the attendance sheet and sit there. Good thing is shes not going to call on you but you have to somehow participate to get good grades. Very very boring lectures. And she grades final exam harshly
Dont waste your money on the textbook we dont use it ever. Very easy class all you need to do is go to class and answer a few questions and you will get an A. Participation and Attendance are a huge part of the grade. Everything is online no lockdown besides the midterm and final. But they are easy bc she gives you the Q&A before the quiz.
Very boring and long lectures. Some discussion in between. Both final and midterm are a lot of stress you have to take them in class. Harsh grader. I would not take her again
Ask her to read your essay.
Don't take this class if your not ready to do some work. Go to class because she says stuff that she will put on the test. Don't only rely on the powerpoints to study you should also read the textbook. Its a easy A if you try tbh.
Easy A if you show up & pay attention. There is a "required" textbook: I never opened it and got 98+ on both tests. Everything is from the lectures. She doesn't put everything in the slides online, so you have to actually be in class. Attendance is graded. Tbh the class is pretty boring, but you don't need to do ANYTHING outside of class.
Although the lectures might seem a bit boring, Prof. Hurgobin is a really awesome teacher. Her quizzes are all open note, and she gives you study guides for them which are literally the quiz questions (answers are in ppts). Only 2 tests (final/midterm), but she does a VERY helpful review the class before. Attendance is taken everyday, so show up!!!
Knows her stuff very well but get ready to be extremely bored. Extremely boring professor. She does not put everything on the slides. So you must be present during class to take notes. She will help you do very well if you email her.
Professor YH gives good study guides for exams. She is very strict on attendance no more than 3 absences. Attending will help you understand the power point slides. Otherwise, they wont make sense. She will always ask whether everyone has understood and will stop and answer your questions. The only problem is her lectures are very boring and long.
not that bad of a teacher, just be ready to take notes!!!
Attendance is mandatory 15% of the grade. The lectures are LONG and BORING. The midterm and final are written but she explains exactly what you need to write. Also the online assignments, she gives the answers to in class. It is so boring of a class but its easy to get a good grade.
Professor H seems intimidating at the beginning but she is very kind. The only problem are the lectures are long and boring. She explains everything and prepares you well for the midterm and final.
If you have the option to take her, take her. Her class is so easy and her notes are so easy as well. Just copy her PowerPoints and go to class on exam review and you'll pass with a good grade. She's very chill, does her job well, and assignments/exams are never hard. The only bad part is attendance but her class is worth it
I would not take her again. She is boring, her lectures are boring and she has this silly 15% attendance grade. She graded the final exam very harshly. Dont take her.
She is supremely boring and the attendance grade is very high. But she provides good study guides and explains everything you need to succeed in the class. She knows a lot of history.
Probably one of the best history teachers I've ever had, as long as you show up and pay attention its an easy A and the way she does her tests are so nice and she isnt a very hard grader. Attendance is mandatory but in the end its probably for the best.
Great Teacher. Hard to understand
Dr. Hurgobin was not a bad professor. However, lectures were super boring and sometimes instructions to assignments were not clear. It was an easy class though and there are not a lot of grades. Quizzes are slightly hard to understand but exams were easy since they were essays. Would take again though.
Dr. Hurgobin is a great professor. She is very knowledgeable and makes learning fun. She helps out on the midterm and final by discussing what to include in each prompt on it and basically gives you a layout for it. I ended the class with a 97 I believe and with a 99 on the final. Just review the lectures and take her midterm/final layout and use.
Very fast during lectures. All information needed for tests are from class. Tests are easy cause she gives answers the 2 classes before the tests. Very lecture heavy and like no homework.
Reads ppt off-screen. Midterm was alright, make sure to include too many details. If you have questions about your grade, ask. Boring lecture, but you have to go since attendance is mandatory. Overall content isn't too boring. I have an A right now and I don't try at all, but that's just me as a student.
She is sometimes a little hard to understand, and you might have trouble reading her handwriting. It can also be a little difficult to understand what to do for assignments, but she is very knowledgeable and willing to help you understand if you ask for help. The midterm and final make up 50% of your grade but you get the prompt for them early.
Go to class, download her essay and take notes on the powerpoints. She knows her stuff but goes fast. Ask her after class or email her.
I didn't think I would get an A. I asked her to read my final essay. Professor Yoshina knows a lot of stuff. Also make sure you sign the attendance sheet. In general she seems very strict but she is very helpful.
She writes guides for the midterm and final. Has review sessions for both. Ask her to read your essay for the exams. She read mine twice.
Dont take her. She has an accent. She does not put everything in the lecture slides.
She was really great when it came to tests. She tells you exactly what she wants to see for answers and gives you examples for good answers. Attendance was mandatory but for a good reason. A lot of what you need for tests is not in the powerpoint so showing up and taking notes is important. She is very helpful if you have questions about anything!
As someone that isn't great at History but MIND U this is a pre-req, this class shouldn't have been hard. We had 3 assignments, 1 midterm essay, 1 final essay, and that's it. She grades everything last minute so u have no idea if ur passing or not until the last day the grades get put in. She's literally a hard grader but doesn't no how to explain.
I took this as a Maymester course and I think I will get an A. You cannot get a high grade in this course if you are not present and take good notes. There was soooo much discussion on but she explains everything. She gave a detailed review of the exam 1.
Took this class as a Maymester. Show up to class and make sure you are particpating. Figure out how to write essays and read and analyze excerpts. If you put the work in and listen to what she wants on the essays then you will preform well. However, make sure that your work is correct by her standards.
Extremely knowledgeable but she wanted to discuss everything. Sometimes too intense. She prepares you well for all the exams.
Professor Hurbogin is thorough but a harsh grader. I took this for an easy A during a Maymester. She graded my final exam too harshly.
This teacher is one of the worst I've ever had. I had her for historical methods. She does not give clear instructions. She gives us the rubric/instructions the day our papers/reports the day they are due. And it takes her a week to respond to emails sometimes she never responds. If you care for your mental health avoid her historical method class.
Do NOT take this professor for Historical Methods. Instructions on final paper were vague and changed from class to class. we weren't given a rubric for the final paper until 9 hours before it was due. only reason the rating isn't 1 is her lectures are very good
Only take it if it's the last option. Attendance is mandatory (15% of Grade). There are 4 group assignments. One Midterm and Final Exam online. The class is fine but her accent is strong and hard to understand. Overall, her lectures are just boring. You get up to 3 missed absences. She seemed nice, but I wasn't engaged in her class.
For this historical methods course, you have to write a research paper. I don't know if other courses require a research paper. She helped me a lot by reading my drafts. I also met her a few times. It was a lot of work but I got an A.
THe lectures are super boring but thats where you get the answers for the online exercises and the exams. She wants you to think as a historian but no one cares really.
Do NOT take! The entirety of her instruction on historical research was assigning a reading about the five C's of history. Our final was a 12-15 page research paper, she spent 2 weeks collecting all the questions we sent in while writing it, and then, hours before it was due, she released all her responses along with the rubric. Not the first time.
I took HIST 1112 with Professor Hurgobin as a Maymester. If you're just looking to get your history credits done and out of the way, I'd consider her an option for that. I don't know what her full-term courses are like, but this was manageable. She has VERY clear criteria for what she expects in your exams, and reviews extensively beforehand.
This was a very informative class and I learnt much on the Mughal empire. I did not have to purchase a textbook because she scanned all required readings.
Professor Hurogobin was great. Can come across as intimidating and blunt but is kind and mellow. She prepared us for the midterm and final. Midterm was in class and final was online. Some of the lectures are bland but she gives clear instructions for all her assignments.
This was my second class with Professor Hurgobin and I would not recommend it. She was fine for an intro-level class but 3100 was a bad experience. She is an extremely slow grader. Luckily for me, she never did grade anything until the very last minute and put in B's for everything or I probably would have failed. Brutal with participation grade.
Very boring but she will go in detail during lectures. Will always ask you if you have questions. And Will actually answer them. There are two exams. Will prepare you well for the final and you get the study guide very early.
I would recommend downloading her slides to answer the essay questions. But you have to go to class to get the relevant notes. Some lectures were online. Just mute her and read the captions. Overall cut and dry. Knows her stuff.
Professor Hurbogin is clearly passionate about history. So everything in the course is about historical thinking and she wants you to love history. But that's irritating if you're taking this as elective. The good thing is you don't have to buy a textbook. She is so so boring.
I had her online over the summer and I had a hard time taking this class. I've always loved history, but I didn't really understand what the lectures were about half the time and there was A LOT to learn for the quizzes and tests. Thankfully you get a "study guide" for the tests but I would still did bad and the PAPERS OMG! Y'all got this though...
Strict but well respected. Expectations are very clear. Attendance is very mandatory. Good lectures she makes sure you understand.
She's okay. Her class was pretty easy tbh but you have to take notes/ voice record bc she does go a little fast and has a pretty heavy accent. I recorded every class but I rarely went back to listen bc I took pretty good notes in class. Voice recordings helped with exams tho. There was a written final as well
Honestly the worse class I've took. I always wanted to learn about history but she made it so overwhelming and stressful bc her content can be overwhelming nd filled up etc. And she doesn't respond to emails very often. Don't take this lady if you want someone to care about your mental health. Stay far away from this lady.
Professor Yoshina is an extremely boring professor. I took this course online so I don't know how she is in person. But she gives you all the materials of the course to succeed. There are 2 exams (one midterm and one final). She grades the final more harshly. There are captions for the lectures.
All the answers are in the online lectures. She gives the power points and the media files that she records are captioned. I guess she could edit the captions more. She gives study guides for everything: the online exercises and the exams. I think she graded the final harshly but she had said she would in the syllabus.
Prof. Hurgobin will help you with an A in the course if you email her and ask her to read your draft paper. I asked her to read my draft essay twice. I managed to get A and I work full time. So that was great it was online. She has an accent in the recorded lectures but you can ask her to clarify. She is slow on responding to emails.
Professor Hurgobin's class can be hit-or-miss. Lectures can be dry, but she provides clear instructions and prepares you well for exams. Using Unstuck study and the free materials helped me stay on top of the coursework.
Make sure to perform well on the exams, especially the essay portion, as they are an important part of your grade. The online exercises were fairly easy since they were open-note. She also provides PowerPoints and recorded videos that explain the course content. While I initially found the grading system a bit unclear, I adjusted to it over time.
This prof was super helpful! Overall, she does a great test review, and will tell you exactly what to study and doesn't beat around the bush. Great prof as long as you put in the work!
This professor is often unorganized and unprofessional. On several occasions, important assignment details were posted on the same day they were due, which made it difficult to complete the work properly and she released an exam sources during the exam instead of beforehand. These issues suggest poor time management and a lack of preparation.
Mrs. Hurgobin had to be the worst professor I've had. She is extremely unorganized, provides difficult and confusing exams, and she is not reliable. She would provide exam resources the day of exams, which left us very unprepared. She never responds to emails, she takes ages to grade exams, and she would email about an assignment the day it was due
I think I will get an A. She prepares you and wants to use the review materials. She allows you to do a second attempt for most of the online exercises.
I was able to get an A in the class, but it can be stressful sometimes. She provides study guides for the 3 test and for the first 3 online exercises. Something that helped me achieve an A in this class is emailing her back and forth about my essay, but she does take a long time to respond.
I took her class online in the Summer. She comes across as very curt and stern but is actually kind and will bat for you. Very straightforward with her instructions. Will help you past if you email her. I don't know how she teaches in person.
She is not fit to be a professor. I took her because it was my last resort but I wish didn't have. She is extremely unorganized and does not inform her students clearly about assignments or tests.
She could be a good professor if she had time management skills and knew how to use D2L properly. I took one of her online classes and some modules opened up 2 weeks late and there was a huge chunk of material that wasn't taught. Assignments changed due dates often. Midterm/Final are lockdown browser. I didnt care abt this class bc she didnt either
Easy enough to manage an A. Gives reminders for online exercises being due; the first 4 are two attempts, and will randomly turn to 1 attempt with no announcement. Exams aren't too hard but require good writing skills. Seemed disorganized and could be stressful at times. Grading takes forever to get with little feedback.
