He does not like to do any examples, lazy, and could care less about you.
he has a strange sense of humor, but is a very good instructor.

Hard to understand, funny though. Get through the accent and he is a great teach

hard to understand and follow
I had this teacher a while ago. His accent is very thick, so it may be difficult to understand him sometimes. However, if you have any problems, you can ask him and he'll help you out. I went to him after almost every class to ask for help on something
material is easy enough, but there is simply no way to understand him through that accent. read the book and you'll pass.
Very funny, very smart chilled king of professor. Make sure you do your hw- the hw questions become the test questions so if you don't do hw- you won't do the tests well. We called him the Rock Biker professor- he's awesome.
Tests are not very hard because they come straight from the homework problems.
best math teacher @ bcc. he doesn't make the class easy, but he gives you ways to pass if you are willing to try. unlike other math classes, getting an A isn't impossible!
He was a great teacher. I did not think his accent was hard to understand at all. He is always willing to help. His tests are right from the homework. He gives loads of extra credit. One of the best teachers I have had at BCC.
I believe he wants his students to succeed and KNOW the material. I hate math but he makes it tollerable with his quirky sense of humor. He knows his stuff and should probably be teaching higher than community college level.
His class was kind of hard, and the accent was hard to follow if you spaced out for a second. He does have a great sense of humor.
He was easy!! You just have to figure him out! All of his test come from the end of the chapter test exactely the same problems!! Not one thing was changed!!! I feel he had a good sense of humor just really dry jokes, I stink in math and got an A in college Algebra JUST DO THE TEST AT THE END OF CHP
In this class, if you just do your homework and study for the test, you will do fine. He has a great sense of humor too, the class if fun to sit through.
He gives you almost the exact problems that are on his tests on his review days. Even if you fall behind he gives enough extra credit to save you a letter grade or two on each of his test (10-15points). He can be intimidating and most people tend to just nod and agree - if you fall behind he will help but you can just go to the learning lab.
He looks like Leu Kang from the Mortal Kombat flicks! Coolest lookin teacher i ever had!

I love math and I did well with Algebra in high school so that helps me a lot. He explains the information well. However, he stands in the way where I can't see. Some of the jokes and stories he tells are funny but most of them are...unique to say the least. It's who he is so it's okay.
He's got a heavy accent and is hard to understand at times, but he covers the material well. If you want to win brownie points with him, talk about classic rock bands. He is esspecially fond of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. Algebra is not his first love. Look for a man on the third floor of the library that tutors for free. He does not work for BCC. If you find him, he will get you through Algebra.
He went way to fast did not address any concerns of class. You are better of taking this class online than with this guy. He is constantly changing schedule and grading policies.
Cons: Seems to hate his job. Gets annoyed when students asks questions. Provide very little and crappy notes. Rushes through notes. Gets lazy writing on board so he reads examples straight from the book. In a rush to dismiss class early everyday. Pros: Doesnt collect homework. Test questions come straight from test reviews. Take if good at math.
He doesn't like to teach and rushes through the material. Gives a total of 6 tests, including the Final. Will throw out your lowest test grade, but will not throw out the Final if it happens to be the lowest. He does give extra credit points throughout the course to be added to the next to the lowest test score to help with your final grade.
He is the worst Math Teacher EVER! He lets class out early everyday and you would figure that that would be a good thing but it isn't. His notes make no sense and don't help you at all with the homework that he gives. He is not a teacher that you can ask questions to either because he gets angry. For being head of the math department I was not impr
This was my 2nd time through and he made things easy to understand, although he seemed to get distracted by the end of the semester and the quality went downhill some. Drops lowest test score, adds extra credit to next lowest. I got an F last semester with a different teacher and an A with Dr. Y. I would recommend this professor!
He took over this class with several weeks left in the semester. He honored what the previous teacher told us, such as droping the lowest test score. He showed how to do problems on board. Not much homework. Showed which problems will be on test. I recommend this teacher.
He is the worst teacher i have ever taken for math, i usually enjoy math and understand it but he makes everything much more complicated and its very hard to follow, his test are confusing and you take you learn mostly from the book he doesnt collect homework tho and he does give some extra credit but over all he is not a good teacher and i would n
I would not recommend Dr. Yamamoto for learning new math skills. If I was unfamiliar with this material (College Algebra) I would certainly be failing his class. He will not explain problems any further than working out one example from the text, and he drifts off topic quite often. His thick accent is the least of his problems.
not the best teacher, but fairly easy class. he explains everything but doesn't go into it. all of his tests come straight from the hw and the hw are all odds with the answers in the back. do the hw and you can get an easy a or b
I had a great experience in his Calc 1 and 2. He is now department chair which says it all
I took him a few years back. His class was the first "D" I had ever received. It seems like he's gotten much better because while I had him I didn't understand a thing and all the grades were by quizes and tests. It was awful.
I hate math, so I went into this class w/a lot of apprehension. This Prof may be tough to understand, but he knows his stuff! Hints, do all the xtra credit, he likes the ladies & Elvis! Wear revealing outfits, make eye contact & giggle at his jokes and you'll do great. Good luck!
Math has been the bane of my existence, so w/that said, I went into this class scared to death! But Dr. Y (Yoshi) is a great teacher, come to each class, sit near the front, don't be scared to ask for help. Gives lots of quizzes & 2 exams so there is room to improve a grade, do ALL the HW (the quiz & exam qs come from them), take good notes.
He knows his stuff, is a good teacher and sometimes adds in some strange stories. He always let us out early too, which was nice.
I felt like we were wasting his time. He went through material quickly. Most nights we were out before 8. I would rather have my time to understand the class. I spent as much time in the tudor as I did in the class every week. If math is a cinch for you take him. If you struggle find someone more helpful.
Easy course, Dr. Yamomoto does his job in teaching the material. I noticed that when students ask questions he sometimes acts like they are stupid for not knowing. He sometimes goes off on weird tangents and tells stories in the middle of the lecture that have nothing to do with the lecture. If you do your homework it's easy. Lets us out super earl
Dr. Yamamoto is a good algebra teacher, somewhat difficult but if you take all the notes and do all the homework you should be able to pass. He grades fairly, so don't expect him to bump you up.
He is indeed a good instructor however he give you no room for mistakes and no rounding of grades. As said many times do all extra credit and homework, and you'll be fine! Oh don't miss any exams because you're not able to make up after the class has taken the exam!
I had Dr. Yamamoto for Stats and he was not hard at all. He gives you most of the formulas for the tests. Just do the problems that he says to do for test prep and you will have an easy A.
I had him for Statistics. First of all, if you can't understand his accent, get out right away! I could'nt understand it and he is a audatory teacher so I got very confused. Also, if you do not test well, DROP THE CLASS! Your tests are the only things that make your grade.
He is a pretty good teacher, but sometimes he expects you to know how to do the work already. The only grades in the class are tests, so if you don't test well; don't take him. His tests are fairly easy. If you do the homework and the test reviews, you should do fine. He does give extra credit and you almost always get out of class early.
I thought that Dr. Yamamoto was a great teacher. He kept the material simple and to the point, and he gave plenty of opportunities for everyone to succeed with his test reviews and extra credit problems. I also enjoyed his sense of humor...but maybe it's because I also share that darker awkward sarcasm, hahaha. I'd recommend him :)
Professor Yamamoto is a brilliant person. If you do not understand something in class, just speak up and he will answer it, other wise he assumes you understand. Things that seem difficult in mathematics to the average person are like simple single digit addition to him. If you want to learn from possibly one of the most gifted minds, take him!
I took him for Algebra & Stats. He is a great professor but it is extremely hard to understand him because of his accent. He goes off on crazy tangents & tells you stories. Boring class but I would probably recommend him if you can get past the accent.
He is a great teacher! He really knows what hes talking about. Very helpful. He teaches only what you need to know. Has plenty of opportunities for extra credit. He gives a test review that is exactly what you need to know for the test. Why he is teaching at BCC is beyond me. He should be at a university or private college.
His class is easy as long as you do homework. The questions are taken directly from it. He will even go over the test before you take it. The exam was the easiest math exam I have ever taken.
Attendance in mandatory if you want to learn what you're doing. What he goes over in class and assigns for homework, is where he gets his test questions from. They are the same questions with just minor changes. Goes off on some tangents from time to time that are quite amusing as well.
I just got done with his class a made an A. If you do the homework and ask questions you'll do fine. He gets off take a little but you always get out early. He gives you a formula sheet for every test but there are some formulas you'll need to know. His accent wasn't an issue.Get the solutions manual it helps out a lot if you get confused.Easy class
He is a great teacher. I used to hate math and he actually helped me enjoy solving problems and now i am not so scared to take stats or calc. im def. takin him for both classes if possible.
He's a great teacher. The tests are directly from the homework. He gets off topic almost every class but I've laughed more in that class then ever before. He always lets you out early. Tests are your only grade. usually 10 question tests.
GREAT professor! I loved Dr. Yamamoto, and I HATE algebra! He made it possible for me to pass. I also took him for STA and that class was so easy and so much fun ( because he made it that way!) I earned a 100% on my final. Accent was not an issue. He's hilarious.
EASY. Yammamoto always lets his class out early. We were usually done in 30-40 minutes. Tests are identical to homework problems. Take Yammamoto.
I definitely do not recommend taking him in the summer. The only grades you get are tests and the final. He gives bonus problems out, but they're only worth five points towards your lowest test grade. Only one test had problems on it that he said would be. The rest were barely covered in class.
Gotta keep up with the home work. Test study guides and home work are the test problems. I took him over a six week summer class and pulled off an "A". Its not easy, you have to work to get your grade but there are bonus problems to help you through the semester if you do bad on a test.
Hard class over six weeks but worth it. Got an A from doing homework, doing study guides and bonus problems.
I took his class in a 6 weeks summer course. The material is simple and easy to grasp. He is the department chair and is very lazy so half of all his test are multiple choice, he provides all the formulas and you can use a calculator. He gives study guides and most of the time he doesn't even change the questions for the test!
I took this class over the 6 week summer term. He is pretty hard, especially if you aren't good in math. He has reviews, and tells you specific problems to study...too bad they aren't on the tests. The only grades are the 4 tests and some extra credit problems. If it weren't for the extra credit, I would have failed.
He is not a helpful teacher. He does not teach so people can understand. Gets upset with students if they ask too many questions or do not understand what he's teaching. Very poor quality teacher.
He is one of the WORST math teachers I've ever had! He DOESN'T go step-by-step so if you're bad at math like me, DON'T TAKE HIM! He gets mad if students ask too many questions & is sometimes rude if you can't follow with what he's doing. He also goes off on random stories that have NOTHING to do with what he's teaching. -AVOID HIM!!
VERY hard teacher. No notes or formulas provided on any of the tests or quizzes. Very nitpicky when it comes to grading. He once gave me a 7.75 on a quiz. Doesn't round up. DOESN'T do a good job of explaining the material AT ALL. AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE!
If your looking to take an easy algebra class, DONT take him. Fist class I have ever failed in my life. He is hard to understand and it is hard to read his handwriting.
This class was the easiest class I have taken in a while, but going into this class I had already taken pre-calc. If you have already taken algebra and understood it, an A is not that hard to achieve. He likes to go off on tangents frequently which makes the class entertaining. I do not recommend him if you do not have a strong math background.
Mr.Yamamoto is one of the best math teachers I've had. He gives you a review that is like the test, but numbers are changed. If you do those and understand the problems on the review, you will be able to get an A. Math was never my strong point. In highschool I got B's, but I got an A in his class! I took him for college algebra too! I recommend him
Def recommend for STA. His reviews are like the tests. Does go off into tangents but still gets the material across. There were a lot of things I didn't understand so the math lab was my friend throughout the semester. He is fair and honest with his classes.
Excellent professor. He is a genius but very advanced.
Dr Yamamto is a genius. He is one of the smartest and most intelligent person I have known. I recommend him.
Dr Yamamoto is very intelligent. I definetely recommend him for math.
Great teacher, very intelligent. Take his class.
This class was decently easy. He doesn't go over the material thoroughly but he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and he gives review problems that are exactly like the test. I flunked the first test but went to tutoring and studied the review problems and got a 96 on the exam and a 90 in the class. You have to try hard
Hes def. entertaining but he is very hard to keep up with & doesnt really TEACH- self taught class. He gives u example problems of the exact problems on the test just switched #'s. I would get MathXL even if ur not taking it online. All the poeple who got A's had mathxl, u just get the extra practice you dont get in class. Its def a passible class.
Took him for the summer, first 6 weeks. He is not easy! If you struggle with math badly, go elsewhere! He skips steps often and is always trying to show the proof of why something is true in math. Irrelevant for the class. He gives you problems that will help on the test, if you do those and you will be fine. STUDY, hard grader!!
If you are not good at math, do not take class with this teacher. I tried to learn from him the first month but found out that I was better off learning it from the book on my own. He does not teach well. It was so bad that when he went over the test, he started to explain a problem that I already understood and he started to confuse me.
I'm not much of a math person which led it to be very difficult from the start. He is hard to understand, works very fast and grades very hard down to every detail in your work. in-class tests are short so there is little room for error to get a good grade. i'm sure people did well in his class you just have to teach yourself. would not recommend.
Yamamoto is really nice but I never have been very good at math and I found him extremely difficult to follow and it seemed like he just read from the book, I basically had to try to teach myself which did not work out well. If you are not naturally good at math I would not recommend taking him. He uses tests as the only way of getting a grade.
Pro. Yam is great if you already know how to do Intermediate Algebra. You can just sit through his class and enjoy his trivial discussions (like the Beatles vinyl he bought!). Honestly, Yam usually arrives late (early morning class) and does the entire class from the examples in the book (the examples are terrible, btw). Good luck taking him.
I think he was an excellent teacher. At first, he seemed a bit intimidating, but he is actually very helpful and kind of funny. Even though he goes somewhat quick through the lesson, he does lots of examples for each type of problem. He also gives a few extra credit opportunities and drops the 2 lowest quiz grades. I highly recommend him.
Everybody says this guy is hard probably because they don't apply themselves. This guy never gives out homework and only gives out 5 tests. He drops lowest test and gives out extra-credit too. Final exam was exactly set up like the review except with some numbers switch around. He does go off topic, but still is able to teach the class w/ examples.
This guy is the best for statistics. No homework, only 5 tests. He drops the lowest but be warned he grades like a machine and everything needs to be done to the "T". However, easy-going guy and talks about baseball a lot. Final exam was super easy because he gives out the final review and it's the same except for some numbers switched around.
This guy does go off-topic. But, he does teach with examples and knows how to entertain. He grades like a machine, wanting everything done to the "T". No homework, just 5 tests but he drops the lowest. He offers four extra credit chances and puts those points on to second lowest test. Final exam almost identical to study guide. Take this guy.
Yamomoto is excellent at what he does without doubt and explains it very clearly inside and out. The downfalls of him are that the pace is very fast so if you struggle with Algebra, it's best to find another professor. Also he will refuse to help tutor you during his office hours even though THATS SPECIFICALLY WHAT OFFICE HOURS ARE FOR.
Yamamoto is a brilliant man, and an excellent teacher.. for those who can keep up. He teaches a lesson and moves on, and this is hard for those who don't learn at a fast pace. I have never been an A student, and my study habits are, well I have none. The trick to pass is pay attention to every detail in class and study. Or find a new teacher.
He is a nice guy, but very hard to understand, you take 5 tests and he drops the lowest test grade, you have a couple of bonus problems and a final exam. If you like to teach yourself this is the class for you.
Teacher is clear and concise. Assignments can be challenging.
Mr. Yamamoto is nice. But one thing you should learn from this class is study on yourself after classes. Keep focusing on his words and working hard.
My sister recommended him to me because she passed calc 2 and 3 with him. I would not recommend him for stats. His thick accent makes it hard to understand him, and he tends to get off topic. The non multiple choice tests are hard. If you wanna learn, don't take him. However, he gives extra credit which helped me a lot when I failing.

The best mathematics teacher I ever had. Clear lessons, clear goals, and always available for questions. He explains complex topics in a way that is easy to understand. Extra credit is offered if you're falling behind. A "real world" approach is taken for both content and problem solving, not just theoretical stuff that won't serve a career.
This professor is a TERRIBLE teacher, you might as well just call him a test giver because that's the only thing he does useful in the class. You can hardly understand him due to his accent and he just rushes through problems and never explains how to do them. If I could I'd never take this professor ever again.
Um well his test can be challenging. The more you study, the easier obviously. I managed to pass the class with an A. He tells you everything on the test. It really is a matter of studying. The final exam was multiple choice and really easy.
He tells you exactly what to expect on each test and the final. He is sometimes confusing in class and moves really fast. I had to do a lot of studying but if you prepare the tests should be easy. He also gives many extra credit options that help your grade if you actually do them. Homework is optional. The final is just like the sample one.
Dr. Y is a great professor. He is super smart and seems very serious but actually has a funny side. His lectures are short and sweet. He teaches you just what you need to know. DO THE SUGGESTED HOMEWORK PROBLEMS! They will literally be the same as on your exams. I am taking him again next semester for another math class!
He's terrible. He's got tenure so he gets away with everything. And he knows it. Horrible accent and very tough. I wish i stayed away
Professor Yamamoto is a great teacher, he goes through a couple of sections a class and gives the class a chance to say if they need more time or to go over something again. You must speak up if you need help understanding or want to see more examples, he has no problem taking more time on a subject but if nobody speaks up, he will move on.
The issue I have is that if you take the JOB of teaching students, then TEACH students! STAY Focused on the curriculum. Really wonder what this teachers failure rate is, is he trying to get students to pass or steal their hard earned MONEY by failing them!
There was a lot of homework, but not graded. Every week consisted of a quiz, which can be a good thing because this allows more forgiveness if you don't understand a section. Study & do the homework & you will pass.
Well I really won't recommend him for anyway one. He really don't know how to explain or to deliver the information. Just to be clear he is an old fashion Chinese guy, and also he is the chair of the math department. He always keep saying my job is to prove not to teach, so when he grade the test he don't even looks at your work, just the answer.
He's a nice guy. For the reviewer who called him Chinese, it shows how dumb that person is because he's Japanese. He's pretty laid back, and if you fail his class it's because you were too lazy and didn't ask for help. Yes he can be intimidating, but a lot of things in life are.
Hands down the best math professor I have ever had. I was worried about taking a compressed math course over 6 weeks, when math is not my strong-suit, and made it through. I would not want any other professor to teach me mathamatics. He provides real world examples to the math to help you understand the material at a deeper level.
Great professor and I think it depends on an individuals learning style. I love straight forward teaching and focusing on things that actually matter for tests. I have taken others and with all of the EXTRA teaching they confuse me. I am not trying to be an engineer just want to learn what I need to pass and he does that well. He keeps it REAL!
Do. The. Suggested. Problem. #1 way to pass the class. If you need help speak up, he won't make you feel stupid. He has a super funny side and can get off topic if you let him. Be an adult and tell him what you need from him & you will do fine. He has an accent so that's a little hard but you get used to it. At least atempt the extra credit!
Professor Yamamoto is easily the best professor at EFSC, I've taken him for everything from College algebra to Liberal Arts to Calculus. He turns complex topics into very simple terms and he's great at what he does. Yes he loves to talk about baseball and sometimes he'll ramble a bit but he's always interesting. 10/10 would always recommend.
He is a funny instructor that gives a lot of extra credit and drops your lowest test score. He also gives some take home tests.
His accent and his handwriting make it pretty difficult to understand his lectures. He gave about half of the tests as take home tests, which is probably the only reason I passed.
Great teacher. Very understanding of student issues. He extended test and homework deadlines because of Hurricane Irma. I sent him three emails throughout the time period of the class, and he responded within a couple hours. He also foresaw where students could possibly stumble and sent out warning emails before students could get into trouble.
The WORST professor I have ever had! Class was intermediate algebra and he did not explain well. When asked a question he just looked annoyed and repeated himself. He was EXTREMELY RUDE. He sent an email to the entire class and we all agreed that we could not believe that this was coming from a professor. DO NOT take this prof. He will break you.
I guess it's all personal preference bc I think he's great! He explains math as if I know NOTHING which is just want I need. Very thorough and clear. I actually had him before and dropped him but this was back when I didn't take school seriously. If you want to actually learn, not just pass, he is the best. Highly educated and loves rock music.
He moves very fast you barley have time to think. If you dont study, you will not pass
I was always scared to ask a question because when others did he was so rude and annoyed about it. I also could barley read his handwriting and I could not understand his accent, if you want to fail math take this professor. I also would have to just scribble down my notes because he goes so fast.
He doesn't explain things well, so you will be going home and teaching the material to yourself. But he gives you questions from the textbook to study that are basically exactly like the exams. Exams are short so you can't miss more than a few questions. He does give points for showing work even if the answer is wrong and he gives bonus problems.
Yamamoto was a really good teacher. He teaches quickly and does have a little accent, but its not hard to understand him. There is no homework grades so you have to do well on the tests, but he teaches thoroughly and offers bonus points. He also grades tests for partial credit which is nice. I took him for algebra and will take again for stats.
NO extra credit Didn't Drop Lowest score on anything.70per of my classes( I asked and compared) were below a 60per within the first week because the FIRST ASSIGNMENT, was a complex PROCTORED, test that accounted for 40per of our grades. 40per. Oh yeah did i mention, NO EXTRA CREDIT. NO DROPS.
You are only graded on tests. He doesnt assign homework so you have to work on problems yourself or wait until he put the test review out a week before the test, he gets off topic half the class. teaches really fast, dont recommend taking him
He simply does not like to teach and goes over tests in a few minutes without showing how to do the problem correctly. Points are taken off for every little mistake and he does not teach any short cuts on the calculator. I am so thankful for the tutors who guided me through it when he left us in the darkness. He missed a lot of lectures too.
I took Yamamoto in the 6 week semester. He gave us 7 take home quizzes and 3 take home bonuses to add on to our lowest quiz grade. He tends to go on long tangents but he ties his stories to the lesson. He is very quick so its best to print out the slides or bring a laptop. Stats was a hard topic but he made it an easy class and i finished with an A
Usually 3 sections of MyMathLab due each week with a quiz. Sometimes 4 chapters and 2 quizzes. 3 tests that weren't proctored and 1 proctored Final test that was open book. I wouldn't recommend taking math online but professor Yamamoto made this class a lot easier than it could have been. The practice final exam was very similar to the actual test.
Prof Yamamoto does not like to teach and is very cold and inconsiderate. He read off of powerpoints from the book rather than actually teaching. He did not like to answer questions and made you feel dumb. The final had material he never went over. If it weren't for the Academic Success Center (3rd floor library), I never would have passed.
I've taken Yamamoto for intermediate Algebra and College Algebra. The video lectures through MyMathLab were sufficient, which is good because this guy takes forever to look at his inbox, which is really my only complaint. The lowest test and quiz score ar automatically dropped, and he's kind enough to push the due dates back whenever MML goes down.
I took Prof. Y's class this summer semester, and I passed with an A. BUT I basically taught myself the whole semester. Prof. Y only gave us the textbook pages and some videos which did not really help. However, it is very easy to pass if you did all the stats lab ( which is only 5 questions per chapter!) and exams. He is NOT a tough grader.
i took him during the summer semester online. he had a discussion due every sunday, lots of homework , 2 sections due each week with 1-2 quiz and one test on each section. hes class is straight forward not a bunch filler topics based on his announcements he seems a bit cold but IDC personally. He don't give extra credit or extensions
I took this as a summer class and it was pretty easy for me. I finished the class in the first month and just had to wait to take the final in August. You have easy discussions where you just put a problem you had trouble with and respond to someone who had a problem that was easy for you. Everything was through mymathlab. Pretty easy I'd say.
After paying hundreds of dollars for the course and course materials, we are also required to pay for a proctored exam? The instructions given were un-followable to take the exam, I had to contact ProctorU support. Dr. Y sent a notice refusing to reply to proctor-related questions. Students weren't used to their tests being put behind a pay wall.
