Uses tophat for all online material + the amount of tech issues we've had (as of right now midway thru semester) is absolutely laughable. Doesn't record lectures and posts questions during them only to yell at you should you be able to answer them before we get to them (as though she doesnt lecture so fast that you could keep up with notes during).
Dr. Ahn is extremely smart. She definitely knows the material well, but the does not know how to teach it well. It is easy to fall behind. My issue with her is that it is hard to ask/answer her questions or receive further explanation on material. You better learn how to teach yourself quick because she will complicate concepts.
I respect Professor Ahn in her field. As a teacher, she lack technical knowledge but persists in using something she doesn't know how to use causing it to affect your grade (you have no Idea what it is). The tests don't reflect the assignments at all and there is no support in the class. Lectures are fast and there is no room for questions.
Not clear at all when going over lecture slides, and does nothing to actually help you to succeed in the class.
You can tell Dr. Ahn really cares about the success of her students. She offers countless resources and really changed class format to help students improve on their tests. You have to put the work in, but it is a bio class so that is expected.
Exams can seem to be hard because she doesn't use the exact same kind of questions that she provided us for homework and recitations. But you will learn a lot from her lectures and when you look deeply into her problem sets, you know that all the questions can be solved with the concepts that you learned from lectures. Go to her office hours.
Dr. Ahn provides so many resources for students outside of class and really wants to make sure you understand the material. Makes class interesting with case studies that really help prepare you for the test. Go to office hours and study, and you will do just fine
Why is queen rated so low? Dr. Ahn is very caring and she gives exam wrappers after exams that can be completed for extra points added to your exam score! If you show up, pay attention, and complete your weekly homework, you will pass. The exams are all multiple choice and easy if you understand the material. She is super sweet and helpful.
She is very funny. However, the class it self is extremely hard. She does not do any activities to aid in understanding of materials. Her lectures are extremely fast paced and she takes no breaks. She talks at you for the full class. Additionally, recitations do not help in understanding material.
very caring professor, attends every single recitation. Her classes are very easy, lectures very easy to understand. recitation activities really help you understand the materials better, it really helps to have the professor there to answer your questions. Spent average 30 mins studying for tests and got 100 on every single one. Highly recommend
Dr. Ahn is well educated in the subject she teaches, but fails to clearly explain concepts in class. She reads the words off of the screen verbatim, which is not helpful when students need a more in depth explanation. There are two quizzes every week. Her questions are application based, so it is important to understand the topic.
Wonderful woman cares a lot about students. Study and tests are easy.
She is a horrible teacher and while it is hard to understand her (weak english) she also wears a mask which didn't help me understand her anymore. Then she rushed through slides so its hard to keep up and understand whats going on at the same time. Tests are application based so if you dont UNDERSTAND (not just know) the material... you're screwed.
Based off the first exam, I thought her class was hard, however she does give ample opportunities to bring up your grade. She even had a generous curve for the final. Sometimes, her accent is a little hard to understand, but most of the time she's a great teacher. If you are good at application type questions take Dr.Ahn.
Dr. Ahn's class was fairly difficult because of her focus on application. Lectures were very dense with material, so it helps to review after class. She is a fair grader and provides plenty of practice questions. Her class requires a lot of studying and effort but if you actually want to learn something, take her!!
After the first exam, you get used to the course and the rest is easy. She clearly cares about students, she is not super accessible but she makes it clear she wants every student to succeed. Like any other college stem course, you have to put in work. Practicing top hat questions and going over slides was very helpful. Exams are all application.
She is very smart, although sometimes a little difficult to understand due to her thick accent. The work is difficult, but if you have a love for bio and utilize your resources it is manageable. She allows one dropped exam, gives bonus opportunities with every exam, and is easily accessible if you have questions. Overall, not bad and very kind.
My lowest exam was 43 and highest was 67 but I still managed to pull off a C- due to her grading system/drops. It is hard to get used to her teaching style and I'm still not sure I really caught on by the end bc of the exams not really mimicking the lecture material, however you can still definitely get by even if you aren't confident in bio!
If you took AP Bio in high school, and can remember what you learned, definitely take Professor Ahn. I got an A without much studying, which made this class much more manageable. While it was difficult to always keep up in lectures, the slides were always posted so I never fell behind. The cheat sheets on the exams are a major plus as well.
Really great professor that wants students to success. The major downfall for me was that her presentations were really slow and felt very bored. Did not took AP bio as well
Dr. Young was extremely educated and sweet, but I had trouble adjusting to how the exams barely correlate with lectures. She pretty much reads off of the slides. The exam wrappers were extra credit and saved my grade. Recitation quizzes were difficult, but Dr. Young went to each one. If you read the book and look for help, you should be fine.
Dr. Ahn is a very sweet lady who cares a lot. If you took AP Bio this class will be easy. The lectures are fast but all of the test material is on the lecture slides (which she posts) and on the Top Hat questions. One exam is dropped and multiple other assignments can be dropped. When the class does poorly she curves and you can make up points.
Her grading was super test heavy. Four exams, one drop, and a final. Lecture activities, homework, and recitation quizzes did not correlate to exams at all. Whenever a student would ask her a question, she would respond "just think about it, you know answer."Her english wasn't the best if you can't understand accents well. Read off of slides fast!
Dr.Ahn is a really sweet lady and cares about her students, but is also tough at the same time. She gives points back on the tests which is super helpful. Idk about everyone else but I had to put in some real study time to get my grade, although it made the tests not too difficult, but I wouldn't say it was super easy either. Good class overall.
Super in depth slides and talks fast. Got a 50 on the first exam but the exam wrappers brought it up to an 75. Know how to teach yourself and you'll be more than fine. Many grades (recitation quizzes, lecture questions, homework) and cheat sheet on every exam. I would recommend taking her. Also I did not take AP Biology and did more than okay.
Professor Ahn lets you drop an exam and also allows you to bring cheat sheets to every exam. Group & individual quizzes every week in recitation based off of the homework questions. First exam I failed, but I got 100% on the others once I knew how she formatted her tests. Failing the first one was fine cause it got dropped at the end. Study!!
very nice professor
Professor Ahn is a sweet and caring professor who makes sure that you actually understand the material. Her lectures are engaging and her grading is very forgiving; the lowest exam is dropped and you can earn back some points on each exam. Really nice professor :)))
Dr. Ahn was very lecture heavy and sometimes boring, but she cares about her students. She goes to recitation and is very good at helping you understand class content. If you study for this class, it should be easy to get at least a B. She does exam wrappers that give you 2 extra points on your exam if you do well. Definitely take her if you can.
Best teacher I have ever taken! She cares A LOT about our success, and has amazing lectures. You will learn a lot from her. I wish she could teach all of my classes. I genuinely find myself looking foreword to lectures, though you will still have to study, but Dr Ahn will make you want to succeed in class. Highly recommend.
Dr. Ahn is a professor with no surprises. She is pleasant very straightforward about what is expected of you. On top of that, her class is very lecture heavy, but all of the lecture material is relevant to the tests you will take. Put in the work (which isn't that much) and you will do well. Also anyone complaining about her accent is just racist
Dr Ahn is an amazing bio professor. She is very knowledgeable and always strives for students to be successful. She is always available and loves to interact with her students.
Amazing professor, grades very forgivingly and it is easy to get an A if you just show up to lecture and pay attention. Course is graded more by concepts instead of knowledge, and tests are entirely multiple choice with some fill in the blank questions
Able to drop an exam. Absolute G... hard to understand sometimes and not always the best lecturer. Also, one of the most caring and nicest professors. If you took AP bio you barely need to put in any work to get an A.
Dr. Ahn really does care about her students and will do anything to help. Her exams are quite difficult, so make sure to read the textbook and study hard. There are 5 exams including the final, and you can drop one(not including the final). Sometimes, she is hard to understand and speeds through her lectures, but she's an amazing professor.
Dr. Ahn is such a G. She's so funny and genuinely cares about her students. She encouraged going to office hours and was very helpful in recitations. Tests were difficult but if you study from the homework and recitations you should be fine
She is very sweet and kind. Her slides are very helpful to study for tests. Also, rework practice problems from recitation that you got wrong. Recitation quizzes (open note and work with a team) are very similar to tests. Go to lecture, the posted slides have fill in the blanks answered in class. Attendance is mandatory but you get a couple passes.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Dr. Ahn! She is SOOOO sweet, caring, and even attends all the recitations which is rare for professors to do. She posts the slides beforehand which is extremely helpful. If you work hard and complete the assignments while using them to review for the test, you will be fine. DEF TAKE HER!
Was very kind and respectful but if you don't do good on the exams (which are typically very difficult) you're pretty much out of luck. I studied a lot but the info on the lecture slides didn't help you in terms of the test questions.
Ahn was a great professor. She doesn't allow cheat sheets anymore during exams, so don't take her if that is the sole reason you want to take her.Her exams are hard. Make sure to conceptualize everything, and don't rely on just memorization. The homework is helpful for test preparation.I recommend to reread all of the workshops and hw prior to exams.
Dr. Ahn was an ok professor. Her exams are very hard and have little to no material used in her lectures. You must do well on exams or you won't do well since they're worth pretty much your whole grade. Her TA's knew very little and would often question her material. She is very nice, just doesn't seem to know what she's doing half the time.
Tests are hard and application based, but her homework and office hours are very helpful. She is the best professor for STEM courses. She posts slides before every lecture, which makes easier to take notes during class. Definitely take her if you are willing to work hard and get good grade. I learned so much in this class!!
Amazing professor who truly wants you to succeed. Very approachable and kind. Class requires a lot of outside the classroom effort in order to do well, but if you put that effort in, you will learn and succeed! Did not take AP bio and still did well with the guidance of Dr. Ahn and the TA's. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!
Dr. Ahn is so caring and it's clear that she actually wants her students to learn and understand the material. She works with the students and it really helps with understanding. Her lectures were amazing, though a bit long, but she's incredibly clear. Her tests aren't bad, but you have to put in the work and study for them in advance.
Dr.Ahn is a great professor for Bio1. Her tests are easy only if you put in the work in advance. Her lectures are interesting and she is accessible outside of class if you have a problem understanding the material. Gives extra credit during recitation quizzes. She wants the best for her students and is super nice and caring. I DEF recommend her!!
Dr. Ahn is tough but honestly worth taking. One HW after each lecture, 4 midterms but you drop your lowest score, plus a final. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. She really wants you to succeed, you will have to put in effort, but if you do, it will be manageable. HW is graded on accuracy (you get 2 tries per problem) but it helps boost your grade a lot!
Dr. Ahn was truly super caring and wanted each of her students to succeed. Very accessible outside of class via office hours and was ready to answer questions. She is very knowledgeable, and her lectures were organized. She doesn't give a lot of extra practice for exams but homework and recitation questions were useful. Offers extra credit too.
She is delightful and although it is test-heavy, there is a lot of opportunity to earn more points or earn points back during recitations. Go to class, participation is a big part of the grade. The way she breaks down the class makes it easier to get a good grade. I would recommend her as a professor, she's easier than others.
Dr. Ahn is very intelligent and loves teaching Bio 1 and it shows, she is very caring and will answer any question you have. Truly learned a lot in her class, there are 4 exams and 1 final and one exam can be dropped, you do have to think and prepare for the exams but nothing too terrible, one of the better professors for sure!
Dr ahn is such a sweetheart. you can tell she really cares about her students and really wants to help them. she always talks about how if you don't understand something come to her office hours ( which are very consistent) her homework's are pretty easy and if you study for exams you'll do fine.
Dr. Ahn was the best professor I had this semester. She was so sweet and funny and you could tell that she genuinely cared about her students succeeding in her class. Her tests were pretty easy as long as you studied a fair amount and she gave many practice problems and resources to help you study. Definitely take her if you can.
Sweetest and clearest professor. She is very good at teaching content and her slides are clear to follow and take notes to. Her TA's are very helpful. She genuinely wants you to do well in this class and it shows. Definitely take her if you have the chance. Her exam questions are mostly easy and you are given everything you need for them to do well
Dr. Ahn is one of the most supportive professors I had. Before every exam and after every assignment she would have an inspirational message. She talked to every recitation group and took feedback on her class very seriously. I was not the biggest fan of her explanations at times, but she was great in giving us resources to succeed in the class.
Dr. Ahn's class has the perfect balance between learning through lectures and doing independent studying. If you pay attention in lecture and read the book you will likely get an A+ in the class.
nice professor dont read textbook just use lectures and write notes. if you study you will get an A+
Awesome professor! Dr. Ahn is accommodating and overall a really good lecturer. Do spend time outside of class to understand the material though, it can be a little tricky at times.
Dr. Ahn is an amazing professor! Her class is graded on multiple different things, so even if you don't do as well on your exams, you can still get a good grade! Also, lowest test score is dropped. She cares a lot about her students, and is very open to questions and is extremely helpful when answering! A very sweet woman and I 100% recommend her!
Prof Ahn was super caring and sweet. Her lectures were really thorough and helped me understand the material better. She responds quickly to emails and is helpful outside of the classroom. It is a tough class, with a lot of studying to do, but if you use your resources wisely you can succeed.
For biochem, this class was relatively easy. Lots of drops, some extra credit, and exams were straightforward. There is a lot of work in the sense of HW, rec, etc but honestly great practice for the MCAT and will likely only help your grade. Wants to help students understand as much as possible. Review slides and tophats b4 exams ur good to go.
Dr. Ahn is quite possibly the sweetest professor at Pitt. She is a professor that truly cares about you and wants you to succeed. Her lectures give you all the material you need to know the concepts, and recitations prepare you for exams by giving you harder problems to apply what you know. If you are struggling, she WILL help you succeed.
Attend every lecture and pay attention; participate in study sessions and COMPLETE THE UTA REVIEW SLIDES. TRUST. I promise you can do well in this class.
Dr. Ahn is a great professor! She genuinely cares about her students. All the material on the test is covered in lecture. If you pay attention in lecture and do the assignments you're good for the exams.
Dr. Ahn is seriously the best! Definitely take Bio 1 with her! She assigns homework for every lecture but they actually help with the exam. The recitations really help with understanding the material. She offers extra credit on the exams and you can drop a ton of things, including one exam. She offers words of affirmation and actually cares!
She genuinely cares and wants you to succeed. Good method of teaching too. She also makes a point to get to know students. Only thing I will say is she doesn't really curve tests. Also, she is pretty nitpicky about certain things. Overall, great learning experience. I highly recommend.
Dr. Ahn is an AMAZING professor who cares for all her students and wants them to succeed. Your assigned homework after every lecture which allows you to review the lecture and prepare you for the exam. Extra credit is given on all exam tho some exam questions are VERY specific. I highly recommend taking her class and she is always rooting for you!
I took AP Bio so I had some background, but I still learned a ton from her. She is well-versed in the course material and she puts a lot of effort into making sure students have resources. Her exams are somewhat difficult, but study the recitation quizzes/homeworks/workshops because a lot of that is on there. Her grading system is also very fair.
One of my favorite professors so far. She cares about how you do, knows the material extremely well. Definitely go to class, the lectures will help big time. The UTAs are all great, so many opportunities to get help. There's homework for each lecture -- actually do them, they will help cement the knowledge.
Dr. Young Ahn is a great professor! She really cares about her students, and the UTAs do a great job hosting weekly office hours for content review. This class is homework and assignment-heavy, as there are at least 3-4 HWs per module. Exams are VERY specific. Overall, Dr. Ahn is a great professor, but make sure to attend lecture!
She's a very good professor for bio 1. She cares about her students and wants them to do well, and she is very accessible outside of class to meet for her study sessions. The class was hard but that's expected for any bio class, and as long as you study and put in the effort, you will do fine. I definitely recommend taking her for bio 1.
Professor Ahn really cares about her students succeeding which is nice! Lots of TAs if you need help. Her tests can be kind of hard, but the amount of drops you get and the extra credit make up for it! Just go over the lecture slides and do the HW and you should be all set!
One of the kindest/best professors I've had. Exams were not too hard. The homework/recitation questions are so helpful to prepare for exams. She drops your lowest module exam and many other assignments (and make up some points from each exam). She also runs her own recitations and is very accessible for questions. DEFINITELY take Prof Ahn for Bio 1
Dr. Ahn is one of the sweetest profs you'll meet, and really cares about her students and their success. She and the TAs would go out of their way to make sure that we had the tools to succeed, and it made this class feel much lighter than expected. If you are willing to dedicate your attention to her lectures & recitations, you will do great.
I LOVE Professor Ahn. She is so nice and caring. Her lectures are very easy to follow. She gives skeleton notes and you only have to write one or two words. She also has in-class questions that count as participation. Recitations are in groups of 4 and do practice questions, similar to homework. Exams are tough and require studying—overall great.
As someone who has never taken AP, the material she teaches is very in depth compared to the other professors so it can be difficult to keep up at times if you don't do independent study after every lecture. However, she provides many opportunities for you to succeed/maintain your grade. Study the UTA slides, all her TAs are extremely helpful!!
Exams were difficult but gives lots of resources like HWs, lecture slides, recitation reviews, and workshops to review. Gives extra credits on exams--2points. Cares a lot for u and is very kind, she truly wants u to succeed. Do active recall on lecture slides and hws AND remember workshop material and ull be good for exams. Final is mandatory!
Dr. Ahn is an amazing professor that strives for all her students to succeed. She gives a lot of extra credit and allows for students to get points back on tests. She explains everything in slides with great detail and makes sure that all her students understand the material. Great professor and would definitely take her class again if I could.
Dr.Ahn was amazing! Though exams were tough, I felt like I learned a lot in her class. She truly cares about her students, and having us succeed. I would 100% recommend her!
Very easy class. Tests are very similar to the homeworks and recitations, lectures are posted on canvas.
Prof Ahn gives a lot of "low stake" points that even if you get low points on it, when it's stacked, it won't affect your grade that much. This allowed for an actual learning experience without worrying about negative affects to the grade. She really cares for her students, she actually wants you to do good. UTAs amazing. Lecture heavy. very caring
She's amazing. She structures her class in a great way and you can drop an exam. She gives so much resources and prepares you for the exams so well. She's just wonderful and im so happy i took her.
Dr. Ahn is an amazing professor and cares deeply about all students. She held office hours twice a week and even one on Saturday mornings online. Her lecture is very related to the textbook, making the class organized and easy to understand. She allowed one drop with a mandatory final, but after the first exam, you get the hang of the class.
Dr.Ahn is an amazing professor, very caring. Her lectures are closely related to the exams. Extra credits and one drop from a total of 5 exams. UTAs amazing. 100% recommend her!
Amazing professor, lectures were informative and not boring. So nice and does fun demonstrations during the lecture occasionally. Her tests are difficult, but she prepares you well for them. They focus on lecture content, but the questions are more application-oriented than memorization. TAs are great and gives you answers during recitations.
Best bio 1 professor for sure. You definitely have to go to lecture and actively take notes and study outside of class but since you're paying for an education it would be useful to get used to it. :)
So kind. Explains super well. Would recommend to anyone.
Professor Ahn is one of the best biology professors I have ever had. She makes biology 1 understandable, and her exams are not difficult if you go through her extensive slides. She also let us bring a cheat sheet to our final, which was awesome. You also get one exam drop.
Dr. Ahn is caring and encouraging. Lectures were clear and explained well. Did not need to read the book. Some homework questions can be a bit excessive and nitpicky with grading. Exams are tough, but use the homework questions, recitation questions, and discourses to prepare/study. She drops several lecture, HW, rec grades and drop 1 exam.
Exams are worth 58.8% of your grade and attending/completing lecture/recitation problems make up another 17.7%. Homework/Discourse assignments make up 23.5%. Exams are difficult and have an individual and group component. Exams include material from research papers you have to read and answer questions on. Most of her reviews are not from biochem!
Overall good professor. Has clear Office hours for her and her UTAs. Definitely need to study for her tests. Some of the questions can be confusing so try to do practice problems like re-doing the homework. Attendance is mandatory so is recitation.
Lecture wise she's probably one of the best professors I've had - really good at explaining difficult concepts in a way that's easy to understand. Her homework and discourses can be a bit annoying but her exams were fair.
A great professor with knowledge and inspiration. If you haven't taken AP bio, be prepared for quick lectures and do reading assignments before class.
Her lectures are pretty good but my favorite thing is her TA's study sessions. She had all the UTA's do a study session every day of the week so if u couldn't go to office hours you always had the UTA. She drops like a lot of things like tests, hw and workshops. Please go to lectures.
Dr. Ahn is a great prof and genuinely wants her students to do well. It's easy to do well as there is less weightage on exams and is graded on your ability to answer questions in lecture, recitations, workshops etc. However, the course is very lecture-heavy! You need to attend lectures and there is a lot of HW. But, overall, I'd def recommend.
Dr. Ahn is a great professor. She laid out the course very clearly and where you should be in the material and when. This was extremely helpful if followed. I would recommend reading the textbook to go over topics that cannot be explained more in depth during lecture. There are many homework and recitation assignments that can be very tedious.
Dr. Ahn really cares about her students and how they perform in her class. Highly recommend if you have a moderate foundation of biology. Keep up with the textbook readings and do the homework assignments after completing the readings and doing notes. Only complaint I have is that attendance is mandatory but it is in your best interest to attend.
She is the nicest professor i have ever had. Highly recommend for bio 1. If you pay attention, and do the homework properly you will get an A or B. She is very easy and straight foward, just come to class! She also has a drop for test, drops for homework, and one rec drop, which is so nice it helps alot.
I have endless good things to say about Dr. Ahn, she is one of the nicest professors I have ever had and genuinely cares for her students. Her tests aren't the easiest, but she's great about giving partial credit and gives a fair amount of extra credit. You can tell she wants all of her students to succeed.
I loved her class, however, it is very lecture heavy and in-class participation grades. So, that means attendance is mandatory or you won't succeed. She is such a caring professor and genuinely wants to see all her students do well. I struggle with test taking, but she provides so many other ways to have a good grade in the class, so don't worry.
Dr. Ahn is seriously the best STEM professor I've ever had. She's so nice and approachable and she genuinely cares about her students. She's also lowkey really funny. She prioritizes discussion-based learning, and her recitations are the perfect format for the benefit of the masses. She offers extra credit often and has a great grading scale.
Dr. Ahn was a great biology professor. Her lectures are the outlines of the only things she will test you on, and while she does bring in application, she encourages study methods that evoke genuine understanding in order to prepare you for that. Additionally, she has workshops to help develop thinking skills necessary to do well on her exams.
Genuinely an amazing professor. I wish she taught bio 2. The grade is mostly based on exams but you get to drop 1 not including the final (4 total + final). If you put in at least some effort into studying and reviewing the material you will do well. She also posts all lecture slides.
Dr. Ahn is the sweetest professor!! The class is a little tough, with a lot of material, and it is very fast-paced. It is so clear that Dr. Ahn genuinely cares about her students, even in a 350-person class. There are many office hours each day. You will need to put in the work outside of class, especially if you haven't taken bio since 9th grade.
If you succeeded in AP Bio, this class will be a cake walk--seriously. If it's been a while, be prepared to do work outside of class. Two lectures and light HW assignments weekly. Lectures follow textbook so use it because you're paying for it in your tuition and because it is extremely helpful. Dr. Ahn seriously cares about her students.
TAKE HER!!! You do need to put work in and actually study and not cram, but you can succeed. She is so nice and caring, and the recitations are just like exam questions.
She is a great professor. Even when I am struggling, i recognize that she wants all her students to pass and do well. She offers extra credit opportunities and is overall great. I really struggled with bio but I believe if I had any other professor I would likely fail.
Dr. Ahn was one of my favorite professors the semester I took her. She is very fair with grading and will give partial credit when she can. By no means can you just glide through the class with no effort, but you learn a lot and I found that her way of doing things set you up for success.
Dr. Ahn is awesome as far as ik she grades & lectures better than the other bio professors. As long as u get a B on 2 out of 4 of her midterms, u will have a B+, just make sure to do all of the Hw, rec & wkshops properly so u get full credit, they count up to 42% of ur grade. Final is 15% & 43% 3 midterm. She drops lowest grades in everything.
Dr. Ahn cares a lot about her students and their success. Her homework and recitations are nearly identical to the exams. If you succeeded in AP Bio, this class should be very easy. If it's been a while, be ready to work. The textbook follows her lectures exactly which is great. There are only two lectures and two homework assignments per week.
Dr. Ahn is so sweet and caring! You have 4 exams (1 dropped) and a final. Lots of group work and little points that make up your grade. (HW, workshops, recitation). There are lots of opportunities for extra points (group exams, exam wrappers, surveys). She has many UTAs and office hours as resources so use them! You should succeed with effort!
Dr. Ahn is. a great professor who really cares about her students. There are a lot of opportunities to keep a good grade in this class even if you don't do the best on the exams (homework, recitation, lectures). She drops the lowest module exam and a couple other of your lowest things in other categories.
Dr. Ahn genuinely made me love biology. Despite it being one of my weak points at the beginning of the year, her way of explaining hard topics and the care she has for her students made me love the subject (and consequentially, good at the class). The homework assignments are super helpful and reflective of exams.
Dr. Ahn is awesome! She is always available to students, and is a greater lecturer. Her TAs were so helpful, and going to study sessions greatly improved my learning experience. Grading is super fair; plenty of dropped assignments including one exam, the final is the same format as exams, and homework and recitation are decent parts of your grade.
The tests are somewhat hard but she gives generous curves to all of them. The class is really set up for you to succeed and if you put in the effort she will make sure you don't end with a bad grade. Easily one of if not the best bio teacher at the school.
Dr. Ahn is so sweet. Her tests are easy if you just read the textbook and study for them. She is also very available with her office hours. She has many UTAs that also have hours that you can pop by and ask questions. She drops the lowest test score too.
Young Ahn is very sweet and caring of her students. Her exams are fair and she gives extra credit opportunities. You have to attend lectures for tophat participation. As long as you do the homework's and study everything on her slides, you'll get an A in her class. Def take her!
I love Dr. Ahn so much! She's such a sweet, caring professor - easily one of the best Bio 1 professors in my opinion. Lots of flexibility: you get an exam drop as well as multiple homework/lecture drops and extra credit opportunities. Her UTAs are fantastic as well. Could not recommend her enough!
Professor Ahn was amazing!! The class consisted of a total of 4 exams (one drop excluding the final) and other small activities such as in class lecture activities, online homework, recitation, etc. The exams are fair and you do have to study for them but Ahn prepares you well for them. Would definitely recommend!
I was in a class of ~325 students, so I never expected Ahn to get to know my name. Turns out she did. She is a SUPER FRIENDLY and REASONABLE professor, especially during weekly recitation. She has a module exam after every unit, and the lowest one gets dropped (4 total+final). The final also wasnt horribly strenuous and we got a cheat sheet.
4 exams and one gets dropped. There is also a ton of extra credit. Ahn is a wonderful human being and great lecturer
(Needless to say, Dr. Ahn is VERY kind). She gives up to 2 points of EC on ALL exams, you get to work with other people to complete recitation activities, and yes there is A LOT of hw but all of these help boost your grade A LOT. MANY assignments and 1 exam also get dropped! TA study sessions are SO SO good - please attend them!!!!!!!
Dr. Ahn was a wonderful professor. Her lectures are very straight forward and dependent on participation so attending matters. My only complaint is that ALL of her exams are online and multiple choice so there is not a lot of room for feedback or improvement or partial credit. Other than that she is a good professor for a solid biology experience.
