Difficult material, and she does her best with it.
She cares more about her research then about students or class. Do NOT take her!
she is completely NOT helpful. she is also difficult to understand. do not take her unless you don't want to learn and do well.
This is a class in which you will HAVE TO teach yourself. the only help you'll get is from other students. if you want to get close with your text book and get completely frustrated, then this is your professor!(and i got an A)
THe material is complicated, i think she tries to fit it all in and teach it as best she can. It is not the easiest subject. I also thing she has slowed down a lot this semester.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER!!!! NOTHING BUT CONFUSION.
Dr. Choi is way underrated!!! Everyone thinks she is such a bad teacher. She is actually very reasonable. Give her a chance and put forth just a little effort and you won't be disappointed. For some strange reason people have it out for her!!!
TOUGH class, she's not very helpful. She's not terrible though. Avoid her if you can.
worst professor ever. has a thick accent and on top of that she has a lisp so its hard to understand what she's saying. plus shes one of those teachers who looks down on you. DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU NEED AN F ON YOUR TRANSCIPT!
She is hard to be understood but if you listen the lesson its so easy to get perfect in exams.Study on her examples. She gives reviews before tests and she just changes the numbers in the test.
She's a good teacher, because she knows her calculus, but its tough sometimes to understand her. She goes a little fast, but if you pay attention and take notes, its easy to pass the tests.
if you like to teach yourself she is best. she just write down everything on blackboard that's what and that's the way how she teaches.i dropped her class.and same advice to you all
Not as bad as everyone says she is. The people who say bad things about her are probably failing the class and do not want to work hard. She is a good teacher as long as you work hard, same as any good teacher.
Possibly the worst teacher I've ever had. I got an A in her class both semesters, but basically learned everything myself. Her notes are treacherous, filled with algebraic mistakes-she's unclear and doesn't like to give help- she's inconsistent and curt
She is not that bad. I mean sometimes she is unclear and goes too fast, but she does help you if u dont understand something. Be nice to her and she will be nice to you. However, if you really struggle in math, dont take her.
you like speed notes?
shes a horrible teacher...speed notes..doesnt teach or explain anythin...no h/w and her quizes r really easy..i learn from the book not from her..if ure willing to learn on ur own then take her cuz shes easy
Her tests are really easy, but shes very hard to understand. You have to understand what you are doing, then you will do good on her tests. She gives extra credit if you really need it.
Choi was bad at first, but got alot better b/c she wants everyone to do good. offers a ton of xtra credit. plus she gives you a quiz every week and drops the lowest 1/3 of them at the end of the semester. does not take attendance. overall easy if you put a little effort in
Booooooooooooooooooooo. Learn her language before taking this class, then you just might understand what the hell is going on.
at first is somewhat hard to understand but shes funny. lots of extra credit and easy quizes. not hw required(suggested).
She is a very smart woman... Unfortunately, you may not be able to understand what she is saying, because she has a very heavy Korean accent. She does like to help students however. It didn't matter for me, I did horribly in the class.
No words...a lot of mistakes...even in the midterms...she explains her stuff as she hated his own notes...must learn to write in the blackboard...too hard for an easy class...
Don't just write on the board woman. Tell us what you are doing! Explain stuff.
class is hard.. she stands infront of the problems she's working on... watch out during derivatives... she takes her own short cuts.. spend time on home work and write down everything from the board!!! will work with class to bring up grades... and curve
SHE IS ABSOLUTELY THE MOST HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!! If you have her change classes immediately. She is extremely hard to understand and does not explain things well. Absolutely horrible!
She really isn't that bad. Math 103 was cake, and I failed Algebra II in high school. Her accent isn't nearly as bad as Huan Feng's, for example. Two midterms kinda sucks, but she lets you make up any problems you got wrong on quizzes. As long as you pass the midterms and finals your set. This class was a blessing to a history major like me.
She's really not that bad. She can be hard to understand because of her accent, but the class is so easy. Before a quiz just ask her a question about one of the homework problems and she will do the whole thing and leave it up during the quiz. The only thing that changes one the quiz is the numbers, just follow the steps, it's simple.
Rediculous proffesor dont take her only if it is a last resort,****ty teacher i taought myself evrything, quizes every class, horrible accent. Become close with the people at the tutoring center
She is horrible
Easy! She is kind of hard to understand. She does not give homework. A few quizzes and a midterm and a final. She lets you redo the quiz problems you got wrong for extra credit. Attendence doesn't effect grade. Good class to take
Worst professor I've had at MSU. Comes across as kind of nice, but shes very unclear and confusing. Watch out for that final exam worth 40% of your grade.. that will kill your grade even if you were doing great all along.. no curve. Take someone else if possible
Insult was added to injury when I had to take this class and then had to have this prof. Quizzes at least once a week, the material jumped from being elementary, to difficult, to a lot easier... Cumulative final exam worth 1/3 of your final grade... Bail out if you're going to have her.
Not nice, can be rude, doesnt belive she should have to teach the subject, she continues to say she should only review it
I honestly wasn't going to write anything about her because everything in the other comments says it all. Then in class one day she decided to call the entire class illiterate because we argued that she did not teach something that was on a quiz. Anyway, what you can expect is about a quiz each week, not much help from her, her accent is very heavy
This woman is ridiculous. She knows her math, but she is not good at teaching it whatsoever. She also has a very heavy accent, which is hard to understand! DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is a really good prof if you are able to open the book yourself and figure out the problems without much guidance.
if you are good at math this class is ridiculously easy
She is a smart woman, but she does not clarify the class materials well enough. She does not use the textbook, but she develops her own easier problems. She will be available by appointments, but she is very hard to approach.
She actually wasn't that bad of a professor. The class outline was pretty easy to follow. Notes, homework, and a 2 question quiz the next week. We had 3 "midterms" (more like big tests) and the final. We didn't do much work from the text, but if you paid attention in class all of the homework and the quizzes are really easy. She wasn't bad.
THiS PROFESSOR IS AWSOME! SHE WRITES ALOT OF NOTES, VERY NEAT AND CONSICE IN HER NOTES. MAKES IT VERY EASY TO FOLLOW, SHE IS VERY HELPFUL AND VERYYYYYYYYY FAIR. YOU SHOULD DEF TAKE HER THERE ARE 7 QUIZES THE MIDTERM IS DIVIDED INTO 3 PARTS AND SHE GIVES GREAT GOD SEND REVIEW SHEETS!!!!!!!!!! ITS AWSOME, AND OF COURSE THE FINAL BUT SHE WELL PREPARES
Math teachers at MSU are terrible! She is a very knowledgeable person but sometimes she wasnt clear enough. She tried to be clear as possible. But ,if you really know the subject, you are safe in that class.
VERY fast does no explain anything well, notes are sloppy and confusing...3 tests, homework, quizzes, and a final..got an A
Professor Choi is a very knowledgeable professor but she is very hard to understand at times. She does detailed notes on the board but sometimes, they can be hard to understand. She gives out 8 quizzes and 10 WebAssigns which are easy. Her test are kinda difficult. If you can avoid taking her, I would.
sometimes hard to understand but good teacher. homework, quizes and midterms are soooooooo easy. you def want to take this class if you need pre cal
It was the easiest class ever... unless you're just horrible at math. even so.. you'll do fine.. Early dismissal. This class.. was easier than any of the classes in HS. It's pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to get below a B.. unless you never attend class and you just don't give a crap. TAKE THIS CLASS. EASY A!!! NICE teacher.
simply... DONT TAKE HER.
Great class if you have an understanding on the topics. I had a good background and passed with flying colors. She teaches well but has a thick accent that is unclear. Show up every day and you will definitely do well.
I did not like this class at all. she's very hard to understand and makes the material appear hard but she isnt a hard grader. I didnt get the best grades in the class yet i passed with a B+. she gives alot of extra credit and lets you make up every 2 question quiz you take each week.
She is extremely helpful and really knows her math. She gives a reasonable amount of work and really wants you to understand the material. She is very approachable and her teaching style is great!
Goes sort of fast in class. Gives LOTS of notes but they come in handy with the few hw assignments throughout the semester. Tests are either take home or with a cheat/reference sheet in class. Material is difficult but she teaches it well and helps whenever she's around. Curves Alot at the end. Take her, she's good.
One of my favorite classes. I really enjoyed the class. Highly recommend doing the extra credits. Homeworks are done online. Professor is really nice.
Class is super easy. I did terrible in precalc in high school but got an A in choi's precalc class with flying colors! Heavy-ish accent but you don't even need to listen to her. Dont go to her office hours, she's crazy! But gives the EASIEST hw online, and makeup quizzes every week so your hw/quiz avg is 100, tests are alright. She's easy!
RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!!!! Extremely unhelpful. Always the first one to leave to avoid questions at all costs. Makes mistakes all the time on the board. Lectures are pointless.
Course material is difficult to teach. Professor will go over any question if you ask her to before the work is due. She has good humor just not as friendly sometimes. Cheat sheet for every exam. and Book mandatory. Decent curve. I would take her again.
she is so confusing and doesn't explain nothing. webassign is what teaches you practically an online class do good on all your exams in order to pass. nobody takes her seriously.
I absolutely love this class. Makes precalculus a million times easier. Easy two question quizzes at the beginning of every week which she allows you to retake. Essentially, it's really hard to fail this class. Homework is on web assign so its easy to get done. No more than one hour of homework per week. DEFINITELY TAKE HER!!!
This class was extremely easy. She gives a two question quiz every week and online homework. You can also make up the quiz online if you want a higher grade and drops the two lowest grades. She isn't the best professor but if you're looking for an easy A its here.
she really knew what she was talking about, just not how to teach the material. went to her for extra help and lets just say never again. On the bright side, you were allowed to retake your quizzes for full credit- that was the only good thing about this class
Notes are WAY too lengthy. They need to be condensed. Her handwriting (on the board) is lousy. I misread many items even while sitting up front. Her homework assignments were extremely awkward and confusing. There were some homework questions in which the entire class was at a loss. Ask for extra help and you won't get much.
I do not learn from the lectures; I teach myself from the online homework, which saves my grade. She sits behind a computer and talks; gives very few examples. And when you ask a question she gets annoyed and asks why you don't know the answer even though it's her fault. Only good thing: she gives make up quizzes online.
I basically taught myself for this entire course. The professor makes no effort to answer any questions and has no idea how to teach the material. There are quizzes every week and the only way to pass them is if you do the homework. If you are not good at precalculus already, you are going to have a very hard time passing this class.
She is very argumentative and stuck in her ways. Don't bother asking questions because she will just give you an attitude. If you are looking to actually learn, try to take someone else if possible.
Don't take her class. She is very argumentative and nasty to students who ask her questions about the material. She has a heavy accent that bores everyone. Doesn't explain anything well at all. I'm surprised she even has a teaching job lolol
Don't expect her to be that helpful. She doesn't give many good examples, so I had to basically teach myself this semester. Avoid her at all costs!
She goes way too fast and has a heavy accent
I've never struggled in math up until this point. She did not present the material in a clear way and was unapproachable, making it hard to ask questions. Her teaching strategy is extremely ineffective and my grade suffered tremendously because of it. Avoid taking her class if you want to get a good grade.
she is the absolute worst. She doesn't teach clearly, her tests are short but very very very difficult and worth a lot. She's jus the worst. Avoid her at all costs. Thank me later.
Brief reasons why her class is difficult. 1. she goes through the material too fast 2. She skips steps in her examples 3. She's often argumentative when you ask questions 4. She does not know how to explain the material simply Only take her class if you are willing to teach yourself, through tutoring or Youtube.
Professor Choi is not a very good teacher. Her accent makes it a bit hard to understand what she is saying and she moves very fast. When you ask a question she might Not even answer it . Also, she is a very tough grader. For example, if the answer is 4 and you put 3.98 she will mak it wrong because you did not round properly.
This professor developes an attitude when asked questions and is generraly unaprochable. Students ignore her during lecture because they end up more confused than they were originally. Most of the time students end up teaching themselves the material.
I taught myself Calculus last semester because she CAN'T teach. I spent hours each week just trying to keep up with the material. Her problem is that she zooms through lectures, does not explain material in an understandable manner, and shames students if they ask a "stupid question". Save yourself hours of unnecessary work and stress: AVOID her.
I took Choi for Calc 1 Fall 2018 and let me tell you, it the worst decision EVER. She is very combative when you try and ask for help and always resorts to the phrase "you should know this". Goes way too fast!!!! We didn't have one passing average exam/quiz. If you do take her, make sure to do the HW and know how to do each problem on it by heart.
She does not allow makeup's for any of her quizzes does not matter the circumstances. She might drop the grade for you if there is a reasonable explanation. You definitely need to understand the subject beforehand or else you will be lost.
Does not really teach you what you're supposed to do. Assumes that you already know everything and should have no problem with it, does not really explain anything, and expects that after she does a problem (without explaining anything) that you should be able to do ones that are much harder.
She gives two question quizzes once a week and doses not allow makeups or extra credit. If you do not understand the curriculum she won't be much help either. I was getting tutored and they said I knew my stuff very well, but not well enough for her course. I would try to steer away from her if you have never taken the subject she is "teaching."
I took her over the summer and she literally doesn't teach anything. She is a horrible professor and has a horrible attitude. Only wants things done her way. Does not give makeups and gives you a lot of homework and two question quizzes weekly. The exams are worded weird so unless you have a good foundation in algebra/ precalculus, don't take her.
I've only had her for a couple days so far in the summer and she is the worst professor I have ever had. Don't be fooled by previous comments because she is terrible. I was expecting to learn in the class, but she barely even teaches and you can barely understand her because of her accent. The university never should've hired this woman.
Horrendous. Don't take if you know what is good for you. Had to withdraw from the class because I couldn't risk an F on my transcript. Failed the first quiz because what she taught in class wasn't on the quiz. If you're not good at math take a different professor. This professor literally made me switch my major, that's how bad she is.
Professor Choi made me not like math anymore. I took precalculus during my senior year of high school and I retook it with Choi. She does not know how to explain and when she explains she does not use numbers in her problems. Do not take her class
Her workload is not the worse... However, when it comes to teaching us Calculus it is much more difficult than when I read the textbook. Overall, if you can teach yourself through a textbook then go ahead and take the class. If you struggle teaching yourself through the textbook then I don't recommend her class because it will reflect on your grade
She doesn't go over the material in depth. She kind of just lightly explains in and expects you to deeply understand it from only one or two easy examples. The questions on the tests and quizz are nothing like what you were going over. I got a 100% on all of the HWs and the quiz reviews but did poorly on every quiz because the material is different
All you need to know is: she is an okay math prof, lectures are fine but not necessary, the examples she does in class are typically the ones that don't have answers in the textbook, hw is online, her quiz q's are taken almost directly from the hw, same with SHORT exams. STUDY (memorize) EVERY HW PROBLEM! - that's the only way you'll pass.
I took this professor over the summer and I'll tell you, this was the worst class I ever took. I don't know how many times I had to go to a tutor just to finish my homework! She teaches so fast and it's hard to understand her. I passed this class with the skin of my teeth; if you ever encounter this professor in the summer DO NOT TAKE HER!
Professor takes her time on explaining material but sometimes goes at a fast paste. Tests and quizzes have 2 parts (manual and tech) The tech section is an open ended question where you have to show full work for full credit. She is very picky about this. The manual part is similar to homework.
Do not recommend taking her
Unfortunately, Professor Choi lives up to the poor reviews on this site. I politely emailed her about an unfair grade I received and was shocked at how defensive and sour her response was. My grade was never resolved. She has a habit of adding material to quizzes and exams she has not gone over in class, which I find frustrating. Beware.
The actual material is explained weird and made me look to youtube to be taught. The professor was rude when we emailed about questions and never had compassion towards us. The content is straightforward but she does not teach it that well.
Quite possibly the worst professor I've ever had at Montclair. The material and concepts were explained very poorly. Because of this, I turned to online tutorials in order to learn the material. Terrible at communication, and extremely rude whenever you did try and reach out to her. Would never wish this class on anyone. Stay away!
Wow. I might just say that this professor, is in fact, the worst professor to ever exist at all Universities across the countries. Applied precalculus was impossible to learn with her as a professor. Very intimidating and if you asked for help, she got mad. I had to switch my major because of this professor. The university needs to review her asap
This was the first class I have had to drop, it was very hard to understand and she went through the material very fast without any recaps. I do not recommend taking her unless you have to, just expect to work hard and teach yourself mostly.
Awful awful awful awful awful. Not just her fault, the entire Math department of Montclair is a horrible joke. Every higher-up who runs this department needs to be fired immediately. These classes are structured terribly and taught by incompetent people. I had to drop this god-forsaken class because of how absurdly ridiculous the teaching was.
Had to withdrawal from this class because it was impossible. She cannot teach for the life of her. Would not wish this class on my worst enemy. I'd rather get hit by a car than ever take her again.
This professor is not the best. She talks very low and never interacts with her students. However, she is very clear when and what we will be quizzed on. She has a clear straight-forward pacing list. If you want to pass her class, you have to sit in the front and have little to no distractions.
She was not supportive or helpful. If you had a question, she wouldn't answer it and would say to ask classmates (but I already had and no one knew what to do). Her grading was all over the place too and very strict. This class was such a mistake to take and I would recommend anyone who consider taking a class with her run the other way.
worst professor ever. DO NOT TAKE HER
I took her for AMAT220. She was absolutely awful. She didn't care about how you did I frequently went to her office hours and she was very rude to me. Please avoid taking her and take Calc II instead she was not clear in lectures whatsoever and never explained what you did wrong. She gives you one extra credit opportunity that does help your grade.
I took her for AMAT220. Worst professor I have ever taken. She doesn't care about her student and she was very rude to me when I told her that my grade is unfair. She gives you one extra credit opportunity that barely helps your grade and is the stupidest project ever. AVOID TAKING HER AT ALL COSTS.
Terrible professor. It's impossible to understand what she is saying or understand how she teaches the class. She is not approachable and has a tendency to make mistakes in grading the quizzes and tests. Avoid her at all costs. Worst professor ever.
Im taking Applied Calculus B. I'm ngl, don't take this professor. Cannot teach nor is helpful. Don't know my final grade yet, but I've never struggled with a math class until having this professor and my entire class is failing….That should tell you everything you need to know.
Do yourself a favor and take her if you're taking Applied Calc B. If ykyk. Lots of quizzes but she post what days to come in. If you nearly failed Calc A, taking this class is your reward for passing. May God bless her soul.
