The man is amazing at whichever course he teaches. Anyone in know who has struggled with Calculus has excelled when they have taken his classes. His explanations and examples are crystal clear and very helpful. Worth every tuition dollar and then some.
Decent teacher, great notes, not interactive at all. Here's my theory why everyone in his class does generally does well: He tends to throw in little tricks here and there, and since I think he's one of the primary exam writers, these tricks or methods covered in his class are often brought up on exams.
He colour codes his notes!
IS GOD ON EARTH.
Amazing on all levels. Take with this prof no matter what. If you have your life in order but is in conflict with this guy's, drop your life and register with him. BEST
one of the best teachers there is, all he needs to teach a class is a box of chalk, a black board and nothing else and it works wonders!
Won his award lucky number thirteen yesterday.
Definitely one of the best profs i have had in first year engg. Everyday the classes were packed. Uses practical and sometimes humorous analogies to help get the lesson across. If you don't go to his lectures, your friends will be laughing at you for 3 months.
Absolutely amazing. One of those rare people just made to teach
Fantastic prof! He makes everything seem so easy, but best of all, he taught me how to maintain friendships!
Color coded notes! Plenty of examples that all turn up on the final! Everything in the course is taught clearly and with a lighthearted tone. The lecture fill up into the aisles because of how well he teaches.
don't need to use textbook at all. Color coded notes, wrote everything on the board in complete sentences. Very clear. Quizzes, midterms and final were all very easy. Formula sheet provided for final. Maple assignment was very simple. Strongly recommend him for all calculus courses.
I LOVE YOU YOUSRY!
he was great and so helpful. he clearly loves math and just wants people to do well. my favorite part was that he would talk about the numbers like they were people and explain their likes and dislikes.
This guy is the GOD of math. The way he explains things just makes you understand.... He comes down to your level and explains things at a good pace...
He is the GOD of math. No one else can explain as good as he can. He knows his stuff inside out and rarely makes mistakes. He uses no notes and knows everything. The best part is he gives you hints and ideas how to approach a question. I love the way he teaches. No one can teach like him. Try to get in his class if you can. Can easily get A or B.
I wish that he could teach every math course...He's Amazing...simply amazing! As far as i know he does not teach Math249 but he does do Calculus Connections which is a review calc class twice a week during the semester which is open to anyone and everyone. He's hands down THE best math teacher Ever!
THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!KNOWS EVERYTHING AND EXPLAINS IN A WAY THAT EVERYONE CAN COMPREHEND...THE BEST
Top notch!
AMAZING
He is a good teacher. His way of explaining things goes at just the right rate. He really knows his stuff. Actually if you manage to sit at the front, you can see him standing infront of the board scribbling numbers. This is him actually planning his examples minutes before the lesson starts. Just goes to show how smart he is.
Not as great as everyone says. He is impossible to hear beyond the second row. He will spend forever doing pointless review and somehow end two or three weeks behind the other professors. He literally gives you notes instead of explaining everything and does it very slowly. Too slowly that is. He did not even finish the course. I am not impressed.
If you have this Proff and you fail you are nuts
I went to his calculus connections and this man is an absolute genius! He is the sweetest, smartest and (by a landslide) best teacher at the university! I respect him so much; he is truly an outstanding instructor and person. Nothing but praise for him! Take him or I will laugh hard at you!
Great professor. If can take any class with him, do it. His notes are extremely precise and he knows exactly what to emphasize in order to get you to understand.
Yousry is simply amazing! This is the man who made me fall in love with mathematics. If you ever get the chance to take a class with him, DO IT. His course notes are done from his wonderful photographic memory, and his war stories are very interesting and frightening. There is not a better math teacher out there, as far as I'm concerned!
I don't even know where to begin. I think Profess. Yousry can make a major in Fine Arts fall in love with math. Absolutely a math genius!! MUST TAKE CLASS WITH HIM! You will love university, and GO TO calculus connect! No matter how much of a math genius you are.
i have him for calc connections and he is just simply amazing to say the least!
Dr. Elsabrouty, words just can't describe how sensational this man is. He is probably by far the best professor at UofC. He is the only professor that will make you feel like paying more money for school fees. Do yourself a huge favor and take a course with him; you have done yourself a disservice if you haven't taken a course with Dr. Elsabrouty!
HE IS GODDDDDDDD.
I had him for calculus connection class. He is awesom. His notes are super good and he makes difficult concepts easily understandable. He is just amazing.
Elsabrouty's notes are all you need to do well in AMAT. He even colour codes his notes so bring different coloured pens to class. He solves all the questions you possibly need to know on the board. His notes are THE best. Another bonus is he posts our marks up really fast.
An absolutely amazing Prof. That's all what I have to say!
Notes are beyond amazing. Never had to use the textbook. He speaks quietly so sit at the front. Amazing prof, I recommend him 100%. Best calculus prof ever. Notes are colour coded, very organized. He also gives helpful hints and problems that are on assignments and even before a midterm and final!
Pretty much the best. Enough said.
Amazing professor, extremely helpful, his notes are very clear and he even colour codes them. His explanations are flawless, what ever i didn't understand in high school, I understood from him. Sign up for his class now because it fills up really fast, you won't regret it!
This man is a genius. Never once used notes the entire year, he solves the problem, explains the problem, colour codes the problem faster than you can write. He has beyond a photographic memory. Get in his class.
Oh. My. Goodness. He couldn't be more awesome. He's a genius, is perfectly clear, and knows so many little trick to speed things up for you. I had an awful schedule just so that I could fit his class in, and it was totally worth it.
He is an amazing prof. Get in his class, you will be amazed at how much of a genius he is
He has been awarded Teaching Excellence numerous times. Stay in his class and you'll never use the textbook; his lecture notes alone is enough to understand the course materials. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand. He invented many techniques/short cuts to solve problems faster.
O.M.G. Theres not enough space to write how amazing this proff is..so i'm just going to leave it at that. If you do not take class with this proff.. you are an idiot. =) That is all.
BEST PROF EVER!! If you want to do really good in Amat 217 and 219 and not do a lot of work make sure you take it with Elsabrouty.
He is an amazing prof! I took calculus connection with him, and he has amazing notes. I couldn't have passed math with out him. He can also make any hard math question seem so easy. truly amazing!
He isn't called the God of Calculus for nothing. Explains everything soo well, its just an easyy A+. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been placed in his section by default in the first year. After 217, I couldn't have imagined taking 219 with another prof, when I could have the best!! :D... another A+, almost effortless. God Bless Him!
he is the best
soooo awesome that he wears slippers to class. he is the best and he's got teaching excellence awardS to prove it
A+! This guys makes calculus easy. He explains everything perfectly, and his notes are easy to study off of. Highly recommended!
Overrated! His teaching style is sooo dull and you can barely hear him if you sit a bit far away. His notes are good, if you can stay away to take them...Quizzes are alright but mid term was tricky.
Good: His notes are really good to study from. Even if miss a class you can catch up from the notes . Bad: His writing is really really really small so make sure you run to his class so you can sir near the front. Overall: Good Prof, Good notes, But bad writing
He is the best calculus professor i've been with this semester, i had a terrible problem with calculus, I changed profs several times, but now that I attend with him, calculus seems just so easy and clear. You don't need the text book, his notes are very good enough. His explaining is easy and clear. His writing's pretty small so sit in the front.
To the MATH349 student who called him overrated - in the illustrious words of Dr. Elsabrouty, "Your friends will laugh at you" for much that comment about me. Nuff said.
Very thorough with material. Sometimes works too slowly at the start of a unit, but gets up to a good speed later on in the unit.
There is a reason they call him Dr. Elsa-beauty. If you go to his class and take notes, you will have no questions to ask. Thorough as thorough can be, and his explanations combined with a mild sense of humour make him the perfect professor.
The U of C have an absolute gem in their mathematics department. This guy makes calculus so clear and easy, which is nice for an engineering student with a full course load. He does talk quietly, but that only makes you pay more attention. Also, he writes on the whiteboard with about 6 different colors, so you always know what's happening.
LOVE. I didn't take his class specifically but he was more than willing to help me (on his own time) for ANY math questions I had. He also offers Calculus Connections (FOR FREE) which helped me tremendously. I would strongly recommend this professor as I attribute a large portion of my math success to him!
Very good teacher, very helpful, his notes are absolutely brilliant, no need for any textbooks either.
Dr.Elsa-beauty: great prof with clear notes and a mild accent. just make sure you bring your glasses because he never does
His course is extremely clear, he writes small but anything that's important will be colour coded and emphasized. His calculus techniques are very...hot.
He is funny and an amazing prof, also very helpful.
Words don't even begin to describe how fantastic he is as a prof. If he taught all my classes, i'd be flying through the A's like no tomorrow. Very occasionally his writing gets small and thus hard to read but he is VERY through with his notes, like to the point where the textbook was totally unnecessary. He keeps "forgetting his glasses" lol
best professor for calculus
Amazing proff!!! His notes are the only thing you need to get an awesome grade!!!
His notes are golden. He color coordinates everything and explains every topic precisely. If you do not have Elsabrouty as a professor in either AMAT 217 or 219 prepare to work your butt off to get a decent grade. If he teaches any class you are taking make sure you grab a seat you won't regret it!
This guy made the block week course easier than it would normally have been with others. Notes are amazing and he is able to keep your attention. Explains things really well. Highly reccomended, best math prof ive taken at uni.
Holy! He really is as good as everyone says he is! His notes are so amazing, he color codes everything and his explanations are solid! Im glad to say ive finally had Elsabrouty and the hype is true, he is a calculus master, he can teach anyone anything! I hope i get him for a class again, highly recommended.
Hes known as the god of calculus for a reason, hes been winning prof of the year award longer then all of us have been alive. Just get in his class and your set
ElsaBEAUTY is such an amazing professor. Highly recommend taking taking his classes!
GREATEST MATH TEACHER OF ALL TIME. TAKE ALL YOUR MATH CLASSES WITH HIM IF POSSIBLE
The Math God. If you can get into his class you better. If you can't, you should probably just go to his lectures. Crystal clear explanations, and he makes it evident that he is an extremely brilliant man.
Here are some helpful tips: sit at the front (he writes messy and often mumbles), attend every lecture or get notes (his notes are NECESSARY to pass), and he gives hints for assignments and tests in class. He is a good professor but can take some getting used to! Good luck!
Hands down one of the best professors I have had in my university career. Professor Elsabrouty has an incredible passion for math, and has inspired me and I'm sure other students to acquire a new found love for calculus. Attend every class and pay attention to get the A!
Elsabrouty is the best! go to every lecture, pay attention, write down EVERYTHING he writes, and you can easily get an A! best prof on campus.
Awesome prof! One of the best on campus, if you have a choice with him for any course, highly recommend taking it with him. Helps anyone who struggles or uninterested in Calculus to pass and do well.
He certainly lives up to his name, "The God of Calculus", he was faster than a calculator! Also, he has a good sense of humor, and many unusual comments ("If you put a minus under a square root, you'll get an F-, your friends will be laughing at you and you'll have to hide in your house for two, maybe three weeks") LOL The best on campus!
Amazing. Lives up to the hype. Very sad that I probably wont get another course with him again.
They call this man the god of calculus for a reason, he completely lives up to the name.
really great- sit near the front to hear him though
Best professor I've ever had throughout first year engineering. I recommend taking any courses with him or sneaking into his lectures. Easy A with him (:
Amazing prof! Words cannot express how good he is at teaching. Sit in the front of the class, and pay attention and you will get an A. He reuses the same questions from previous exams, so find a way to acquire them and do as many as possible.
Go to class and take good notes, do the assigned practice problems and you should have no difficulty. Yousry makes difficult material very understandable and do-able.
Great Prof
Incredible.
Amazing. His notes are so good. Explains things very well too. Great sense of humour.
Never fell asleep in his class (: Good teacher with a nice sense of humour. His notes actually make sense if you go back to read them. Many students from other sections would often come to our class instead of their own- he's that good.
Recommend this prof to everyone for any math courses
incredible
Best prof. ever! Lucky to be in his class.
Excellent professor! He is hilarious and very helpful. His notes are fantastic.
Very good prof. Pay attention and you will do fine. Do not need the very expensive textbook, provides many resources to help.
Great prof with funny quotable phrases. He goes over concepts slowly in the beginning then picks up speed so that you don't get shocked when you first start the course. Provides lots of resources online for studying, so the textbook was not needed. Highly recommend him!
Best calculus prof in the world
Simply incredible. If you have no idea why this guy is secretly referred to as The Calculus God by a bunch of Engineering students, then you need to take a class with him and experiment.
He isn't a bad professor, but I don't understand all the buzz around this guy. The reason I did well in his class is because I love math, not because he taught the content well. On the other hand, his examples are very similar to the ones on the assignments/exams. Go to class for the examples!
Fantastic Prof!! He is simply the best. He basically writes a textbook with his notes over the term.
BEST PROF I'VE HAD.
Elsabrouty far surpassed my (already high) expectations. You can tell he loves to teach and he wants everyone to succeed. For someone so intelligent, he still teaches in enough detail that even the dumbest of us can understand. He is funny, kind, approachable. Best prof there is. I just wish I could take more classes with him
Amazing Professor, doesn't bother with the textbook instead says to stay home if you prefer a textbook. Notes are amazing, if you understand them you start taking interest in the course, took AMAT 217, 219 and 413 with him and would love to take more courses with him.
Absolutely amazing one of the best educators I have ever had, his examples are very useful and a great study guide!
He is a math god. That is all.
No textbook, but he posted all his lecture notes online. After deciphering his handwriting, they were extremely helpful.
Amazing, nuff' said!
Awesome prof! really funny! everyone goes to his lectures!
Elsabrouty was easily my favourite prof. Makes you understand the material in a way no else can. The lectures I attended, I understood the material perfectly. You have to go to the lectures though, otherwise you won't do all that well. He has no online notes, but if you do the assignments and labs that are posted, you should do well in the class.
He knows his stuff!! His writing is absolutely HORRIBLE, so sit in front of the class! If he stars a question, make sure you know how to do it because it will most likely be on the midterm or the final
Elsabrouty is a fantastic professor. He explains concepts quite well and always gives hints of what will be on the final. He is also pretty funny.
THE CALC GOD. The tests are super hard though, if you have 90's in highschool, your gonna get 70's in this class. But he gives you hard practice questions which prepares you for the exam. So if you want to pass the course, just do all the questions he give you. And try not to use wolfram too much, it will drag you down!!
Best calculus prof ever. His notes are pure gold and his lectures are something you cannot miss.
Often I would talk to Tousry after class about lectures and questions I had. He always gave me a helping hand and even suggested extra problems for me to do. I once saw him at the YMCA and we had a good workout. A very kind and understanding prof, would definitely recommend Yousry for any calculus related class.
Yousry is a great prof at the U of C, he is always willing to lend a helping hand to his many students, including those who come to his class from other ones. His notes are brilliantly created and he makes some hilarious remarks in class. He once threw his microphone to the ground in frustration due to it not working. All in all would recommend.
He was okay
Best Prof ever.
very great professor. If you work hard easily to get A
He is awesome :)
Great prof, really knows how to explain topics well and he's a really funny guy.
The only way to take 275 at U of C if the other professors where like a Prius Mr Elsabrouty would be a Ferrari Enzo
He is an audio textbook. No questions, no discussion, just a stream of math content with a whiteboard.
Awesome lectures, clear concise and gets to the point. Perfectly organized
This guy is math Jesus
Excellent prof. Really knows his stuff. A lot of midterm and final questions are repeated so get your hands on old exams and you'll be golden
hands down best prof, nice funny guy who really wants his students to succeed, you have to pay attention during the lectures to do good in the class.
Best calculus prof hands down. Very clear, and has a very concise step by step solution for his in lecture examples.
Best.
Great notes but you have to write fast or your screwed. Very helpful if you approach him with questions, but clearly gets frustrated if your question is deemed too simple. He clearly cares about his teaching which makes his lectures a lot better. He has amazing online resources DON'T GET THE TEXTBOOK!
If you only need to know how to compute questions based on what the question consists of you're in great hands. If you want to understand anything beyond that you want to look elsewhere. Now in later calculus courses I'm realizing that I didn't learn much about calculus, more just how to do examples.
Elsabrouty is one of my best profs, I had him for two semesters and aced both classes. He is friendly but stern and he assists his students when they are having a hard time.
I had Elsa for Math 275 and made the mistake of not doing his written lab problems outside of class. He whips through examples very quickly, so you have to constantly take notes and review them later- and if you don't understand his approach method you might be out of luck. If this class is required, DO THE LAB QUESTIONS. They'll be on his exams.
Amazing prof. Would take him for all of my math classes.
His lectures are walkthroughs on methods of solving specific types of problems. In fact this is all you learn in Math 275 is how to plug and chug. However, this is not the profs fault and I will say his lectures are amazing and he is the best to teach Math 275. Final word: Get into his class for 275 if you can.
One of my favourite profs of all time. Really sad I won't be having more classes with him. Such a respectable guy.
My fav prof for the year
I started hearing all good things about Dr. Elsabrouty in this site and basically everywhere so I decided to audit his amazing lectures. Solid choice, concise teaching, and content correlates to homework, midterm and final. He also made calculus as entertaining as possible because of his jokes. Thank you, Elsabeauty, hands down best prof for 275.
Best math 275 prof out there. Sometimes he just forces you to memorize stuff which sucks. Also, he spends too much time reviewing Math 31 stuff instead of focusing on new materials hence the extra lab lectures. His notes are amazing though. He provides a generalized method to solve problems.
Yousry is definitely a great professor. His notes are amazing, and very easy to read. I've learned tons from his lectures compared to the other profs. I actually wasn't assigned to Yousry's lectures, but I decided to go to his lectures instead of my other prof's, as Yousry's was a lot better.
best prof I ever had
Gives great notes, also adds fun dad jokes to enhance student participation.
Elsabrouty is amazing! His lectures are great but integrals are tough so don't fall asleep. Everyone who has the privilege of being in his class respects the hell out of him.
Great Professor, explains concepts really well. Make sure to attend lectures otherwise you will struggle
I continued auditing Yelsabros lectures to complement my actual assigned lectures. His lectures never failed to amaze me, as he makes it as concise as possible, and provides a generalized method in solving problems. He also continued giving jokes to make the class more interesting instead of boring. Do the lab questions to avoid the F---.
The most amazing professor I have ever had. His notes are amazing, his lectures are amazing and he is also very friendly. Quite a challenging class but he makes it very manageable and gives you all the tools to succeed. 100 percent would take another class with him.
I was blessed by the calculus god's to have this beauty for two classes:Math 275 and Math 277. If you are lucky to have or are able to go to this lecture do it! His notes are everything you need to pass the midterm/final. He is EXTREMELY helpful and just wants to you succeed. In order to do well in his class: GO TO CLASS (NO BUTS JUST DO IT).
The G.O.A.T of professors
dont miss the lecture . not a single one . and just a heads up for 277 final that time will matter . so for 277 final be very quick and do lots of practice.
I had been blessed by the calculus gods to have Elsabeauty as a prof for Math 375. Had audited his class previously for 275 and 277 and all I could say is do attend all lectures and do all labs, tutorials and worksheets. All study aids are really helpful. He is also enthusiastic in the subject and is really awesome one-on-one during office hours.
I was lucky enough to have Elsabrouty for 375, 277, and 275. Having him as a course coordinator for all of my applied math/calculus focused courses made all of them a breeze. He is an amazing professor who prepares an amazing set of notes for all three courses; especially 375. The materials he prepares every year are very helpful.
Best proffesor so far i have ever seen.
I love him
Easily the best Maths prof I have ever encountered
Dr. Yousry Elsabrouty is by far and away the best professor and passer of knowledge I have ever encountered. He is truly legendary around the University of Calgary. If he is not a master of his trade than there are no masters in his trade at all.
Very good notes.
Hands down the best professor at UofC.
He is a god
Elsabrouty of course is an amazing math professor. His notes are very good. I found the tests were short on time however and he only had one office hour a week.
Absolute God. But I took Math 375 in spring so it WAS somewhat easier. But sill, teaches great
He is amazing and very funny. He thoroughly explains all concepts and is very nice. Would take his lecture any time.
I want to say he is one of the best profs I've ever had, but sometimes his teaching gets lost on me. Incredibly kind, amazingly intelligent, and doesn't take the usual engg bs. You must study for the midterm and final, in fact if you do study it should be easy, but it isn't an easy A by any measure. Yes even if you did hs calc.
He is the best professor when it comes to obtaining notes to study for the midterm and final with. His notes are thorough on how to solve problems and he is really good at explaining them in lectures. He makes jokes every now and then to make lectures fun, but be sure not to go to his overcrowded lectures as he might kick you out.
Your best bet for calculus. Do as he says and you'll pass easily. He goes through EVERY possible scenario in class. Get ready to write fast but review what you wrote and you'll get an A. DO NOT buy the textbook. cracked it open once just to realize he'd cover it later.
Elsadaddy, great prof with funny lecture, hard to understand at first, but a great prof. 10/10 would take again.
Simply the best professor you could hope to get for MATH275. Don't bother with Zinchenko or Brenken; Elsabeauty is the man.
He is the best prof you can get for Calculus.
Had him for MATH 275 and 277, good prof. Doesn't post notes online.
What else can you say? Yelsabro is truly the Calculus God. Simply attend his lectures and you'll do great. Just make sure you're doing things correctly or else don't shake hands with your friends.
I never had him as my prof directly, but he was always the coordinator for both 275 and 277. doesnt post notes online, tutorials are purely practice questions (he posts detailed solutions). his exams are by far the TRICKIEST ive ever written. all questions MC, yet he can always guess your wrong answers from arithmetics. BE VERY CAREFUL ON EXAMS
Elsa may be the best math prof in UofC, but he isn't any better than average. Speaks highly of ucalgary's poor quality of math instruction. He writes his notes in class quickly, he's against people sharing notes, his notes are hard to read, his notes lack depth for understanding, and his notes are all you have for you to learn the curriculum.
Elsabrouty is the calculus God. He doesn't put notes online because people were stealing them. You're allowed to share notes with other students though. If you can do every in-class example/every question in the wise review you will get an A. He is will always help during office hours or appointment. It is work, but it's straightforward to get an A
Best professor of all time.
If every Professor cared as much, and put as much work in, as Professor Elsabrouty does, the world would be a better place. Grateful to have been in his class.
Elsabrouty is an amazing, engaging lecturer and helps outside of class. If you show up and write EVERYTHING down you will do well. However, If you don't study throughout the semester and don't start practicing for the midterm and final early you will not do well. You don't do enough coursework to adequately learn, you have to study on your own.
If you go to all of his lectures, take down all of his notes, and go through the problems in the notes and problems from review sheets that he posts online, then you are good to go for the midterm and final. There are not many graded components to the course. Elsabrouty does write very quickly in lectures, but he also makes sure you understand.
As we all already know, Elsabro is most definitely Calc God. Although the notes in this class were fast paced, he communicated effectively and made sure you would understand everything along the way. His notes are all you need to succeed in his courses, especially the WISE reviews for the exams. Do those and his practice exams on D2L and you're gud
Clear and refined lectures, with well organized material. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. The only gripe I have is how the course is graded. Unlike most other classes this class is graded directly against the 4.0 scale meaning an A requires 95% which seems excessive considering we are graded on few things.
Best prof for Math 275 and 277. He is a very good at what he does.
Elsa is an amazing prof i will recommend him for everything! If you try and put effort you should not finish with less than a B !!
I took math 375 in spring. It doesn't even feel like calculus due to the amount of memorization that is required in this course. Our final was written where qs 1-15 were either you get A or F. So what was the point of having written exam if no grade for work is given?
Hardest fax course too much memorizing not even math bad ta too mark unfair
Provides the most clear ways of solving problems and shows the types of problems you will see in exams. If you go to lectures for the notes and study them then you will be well prepared for all the exams. Elsabrouty is one of the best professors you can get for calculus.
Dr. Elsabrouty is nothing special, it's just the rest of the engg math professors are garbage. He makes good notes, but the tests tend to only cover cheesy tricks he barely mentions, meaning memorization good grade. When you hear people praising him as the "math god" this is why - he turns process oriented math courses into basic memorization.
Do the worksheets and tutorial questions on your own and you're golden.
I think he is the most overrated prof in UofC Engg. He somehow turn a math courses into a pure memorization courses(more memorization than bio), which you will forget 99% of the things you learn two weeks after the final. All being said, if you put an afford into taking notes and memorizes them, it should be an easy A.
Just the sheer amount of content he has in his curriculum and the fact that uses a lot of time writing EVERYTHING down causes him to just show us examples rather than emphasize the process of actually solving the math problems. The good thing is that exams are easy and similar to lecture problems, but we don't really learn anything. good guy though
he stopped caring years ago. He doesn't post lecture notes. also Writes too fast so you cant think about his points. #speedwritingdrill. He uses different obscure notation meant to trip us up (got 95 in calc in high school, learned completely different notation). At the very least he is clear, and seems to care when hes done acting cantankerous.
No better way to start your day than coming to Elsa's class.
Back to high school taking notes.
very funny man
Best prof I had in first year. Lucky to have Dr. Elsabrouty in both Math 275 & Math 277. The only prof that you'll ever need for Math!! Simply the math god at the UofC and the only prof that I actually like so far. 5 stars all the way!!!!!! Bless this man.
THE GOD OF INTRODUCTORY COLLEGE CALCULUS! Guys, if you enroll in MATH-275, be sure to take it up with him. Many of the concepts of calculus that I learned in high-school were not that clear. But, enter Dr. Elsabrouty and Calculus became one of my strongest subjects. Although, do attend all his classes as he doesn't post his notes online.
Elsabrouty is the BEST math prof a student could ask for. He truly knows his stuff and everyone respects him and he respects the students. If you can, take a class with him because he will change the way you look at math. Amazing, phenomenal, and exceptional!!
THIS GUY IS AWESOME!! He was very concise and clear and pretty much tells you what is on the midterm if you listen carefully. Would 100% recommend him for math 275.
I don't think he is that great of a professor anymore, although my brother, who attended his class in 2007, said he was great. His lectures are composed of examples that you have to memorize, and he never explains the logic behind the things he is doing. The finals are only 2 hours long, and you can only get an A if you memorized ALL examples.
This is the prof you want for 275.
He's a great prof, but extremely overrated. He teaches you everything you need to know for exams, and is the best choice when compared to other calc profs, but he goes very slowly, and doesn't interact with the class/ notice when we have questions. Also, he gives us no extra practice for exams so we didnt know how to prepare besides using notes.
There were only 4 assignments that's worth 20 % and the rest is based upon your midterm and exam. He is a fair guy, best professor I had this fall, and he loves to help. If you have any questions he is willing to help out and make some time. His lectures are absolutely mandatory!
He's a good prof. Clear explanation and complete notes on D2L. He curves the grades of the final too so you end up a better grade than you're expecting. Only complain I have is the grading. I finished with a 92% and that translated to an A- . That's a little harsh considering this is a challenging upper level math class and not an easy elective.
Amazing prof. This class doesn't have a textbook but you would never need one because the lecture notes are so good. You don't have to go to class but should because he gives hints about what is on the tests.
Content's not easy (it's not supposed to be, it's the hardest calculus course), but honestly woulda been harder without Elsabeauty. Quality content. What a guy.
Amazing!!! He goes through everything you need to know in full detail. He goes slow and shows all of his steps in solving the problems. The tests are difficult but if you know how to do all of the problems from the WISE review then you'll be ok. Also DO NOT waste your money on a textbook for this class only buy the MathXL code (if you need it).
A professor that is a good teacher that has examples to work through during lectures.
He's pretty chill but can get a bit intense if people from other lectures sneak in or if people are talking. Covers material pretty well.
I had Elsabrouty for 275 and 277 and he is still great. Obviously Math 277 is harder than 275, (more theory heavy), but if you attend his lectures and do the math labs then you should do fine.
A math god
Go to his lectures because he verbally gives hints and shortcuts on how to solve problems, but does not post those hints. Lectures are clear and to the point; he does not waste your time. The midterm and quizzes were straightforward so if you do the review sheets he makes you'll be fine. Just go to class and pay attention and you will be rewarded.
Very good prof.
He may seems scary but he's very nice and explain things very clearly to his students
Great teacher with absolutely amazing notes. Outlines specifics and even gives shortcuts to make tough applications easy, an actual genius. A bit of a jerk when it comes to external help/notes, though. Due to the way the class is curved it's almost impossible to fail, but also nearly impossible to get above a B. Final is hard, study problems!
Great at laying concepts out and explaining things without frivolous details so, his notes are the equivalent of the bible for studying this course. However, inclass examples are comparatively easy in most cases, so dont fall into the trap of being too confident. Do all the labs, reviews, and ace the assignments and inturn you'll do great.
The Calculus God.
I was told Elsabrouty aka Elsa would be a legend during my MATH 275 lectures. However, I felt that he fell quite short of this. Sure he had good notes which were similar to his tests. In terms of learning, I felt that this class was more about memorization. I didn't leave the class learning about the content just his tricks to solve the problems.
Dr. Elsabrouty has an amazing reputation but the reality is very far from this. He does not teach you the material but rather teaches his weird tricks that no one else has ever seen before that are specific to his tests. Has the same exams every year so doesn't post previous ones. The review sheet is easier than the exams. Can be condescending.
Not the most flexible professor but his notes are amazing. Finals and midterms are big for the time given and most of the time you need to be fast at solving problems. However he is an excellent professor who certainly knows what he is doing. Very brusque and not the easiest to reach outside of class but always stays after to answer questions.
Overrated prof, doesn't explain and goes really fast. You don't have options though.
UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT Elsabrouty is a good prof, but he by far isn't the best. His notes and his lectures were amazing, and sometimes he can be funny. However, his marking system is trash if you do well in calc. The grading curve gravitates towards the center (C+ to B-); so it is quite hard to get an A, but it is also quite hard to fail the class
He's a really good prof. This semester he was a real gem and put all his notes out there and his lecture vidoes and lectures were top notch and heavily packed. Not a minute wasted. The examples he does in class are just like the questions on the exams. Also make sure you do the lab questions they are good practice. Do them for the integral unit.
275 and 277 go through him. What's taught in his lectures is what to expect on the midterm and final. Organized material remarkably well for such a loaded course. Had all 4 blocks trying to get into his lectures at one point in the semester. Don't let the midterm lull you into a false sense of security; his finals are brutal.
The best professor in terms of teaching his notes is just lovely and colour-coding makes it even much better. Helped me a lot outside of classes.
Taught me both 277 and 275, very organized notes are just wonderful and easy to follow. The math department found a real gem in him.
His emails are so rude and aggressive. He treats students poorly.
Yells so much in his emails
Weekly notes and lab solutions are very detailed and clear which makes it easier since it is online. Most of his emails are a little aggressive but everyone should know by now that if you want clarifications, you should email hamilton or post it in the discussion board where hamilton also will nicely reply
The worst prof I've ever had. Have never seen his face cause he too shy. Made the final exam extremely difficult. Did not even tell us the grading scale for the class. Thanks to all ps. emails are written in this format
I wish we got the Prof that previous year students have gotten. All he did for us this semester was write aggressive emails and make exams that were straight up dumb. The class consisted of prerecorded videos and assignments done on pearson (horrible website). Would have been much better if lectures were live. Thanks to all
Elsa is an okay prof. I had him for math 275, however he barely gave us any assessments and expected us to be prepared for the final and midterm. In addition to that he is HORRIBLE at answering emails and expects us to be on top of our game. Some advice be self sufficient and expect the unexpected.
Very aggressive in his emails and would never reply to students. Didnt post any final review for practice, and he never did any review for students but yet he made the tests. Absolute joke of a class
He really told us, here's the notes for each week, have fun learning, here are the test dates and the online resources. There was no lectures in the class, I still don't know what he looks like because he doesn't even teach the online resources, they're done by another prof. Every email is so snarky, I'm right you're wrong mentality.
This was an awful class to start my first year with, he was awful at responding to emails and when he did it was passive aggressive and not any help whatsoever. He threw his students into the deep end and expected us to know what to do each week (as there was no interactive classes only recordings) and we had to teach ourselves. He did not teach us
Awful professor who isnt helpful at all. Gives you notes hes used over and over again from previous years and expects you to succeed. Very aggressive in his emails.
I don't know about the hatred from first year Math 275, I have taken Math 275, 277 and this year's 413 with Dr. Elsabrouty. He is always a gem and as long as you follow his notes and do what he tells you to do to succeed in this course, you can get an A easily. I don't think there is a better alternative who has clearer instruction than him.
Dr. Elsabrouty is a great professor. His notes were very helpful and concise, and made concepts make sense right away. The class in general was a little hard to keep up with, as it was asynchronous, but the difficulty of the class is independent of Dr. Elsabrouty's performance as a professor.
Excellent professor, easily one of the best I've had.
I found the course expectations very unclear at the start. A lot of ways to teach yourself were offered but it was very challenging to get help. His emails were extremely rude. Midterm and especially final were not reflective of the assignments. Stay on top of your work or you will do poorly.
Dr. Elsabrouty is a fantastic professor. Many students claim he is unhelpful and his course is impossible but as long as you use his lecture notes and DO THE LABS you will be fine. Most of the exam questions are pulled straight from the labs. His communication takes some getting used to but if you have a sense of humor you will enjoy his emails.
Not good at explaining how he does things initially. But as you get into the semester you get more and more used to things. Sometimes sends out some drama-queen material in emails that are fun to laugh at.
Really fair and changes up grading to be fair to everyone. He gave us options to how much we wanted out final exam and midterm to be worth. Nice guy.
Honestly the GOAT of UofC engg math. He creates all the tests and assignments and watching his lectures preps you so much. Its almost impossible to fail unless you don't do the assignments and tests.
Had topics with 100+ pages of notes to read/summarize. Lecture videos for like 12 pages were almost 2 hours long bc he talks slow as hell. x2 speed wasnt fast enough sometimes. He does explain things really well and provides several worksheets/labs for practice. But emails from him were rude when addressing student questions/quiz scores. Not a fan.
Thought I was doing good in the course but when I converted from his 4.0 grade scale to letters I wasn't doing good. Slides are 100+ pages long, lectures videos for like 10 pages are around 2 hours long. This final exam was rough with a lot of questions we hadn't seen before or practiced ever. Only good things is all the worksheets he has.
This professor was one of the only professors from my first year who made it extremely hard to pass the course without failing a few times. While he is fair in grading, his methods, notes, and overall tutorials were very confusing.
Awesome professor, really good for first year engg students (asynch online). His email format is pretty weird though lol
Terribly passive agressive emails towards the whole class, with very poor and confusing formatting.
The lecture videos are often too long and painful to watch. Cannot speak for when they are in person, as my class was asynchronous, but the prerecorded lectures were painful at best. The class is graded on very few heavy weighted assignments, so doing bad on one assignment does impact your grade. However, assessments and tests are mostly fair.
Took the online 2021 course. He has amazing notes (once you learn how to read his writing) and provides you with examples that will be on quizzes and tests. His lecture videos were super long and boring, you can just read the notes. Also sent out really weirdly aggressive emails that I thought were really funny where he just get's mad at the class.
Amazing professor if you have him in person; his teaching style doesn't hold up over lecture videos at all. Class content is usually very similar to the quizzes, so attendance, while not mandatory, is heavily encouraged. Assignments are basically free grades (if not a bit tedious), but watch out for his hard midterms/finals. He does curve it though
Lecture notes are super heavy and he sends out passive aggressive emails like every other week. Had him as the 'course coordinator' for both MATH 275 and 277 and it was rough. He's good at replying to emails though. Also colour coordinates all his text lol
Dr.Elsabrouty is an amazing professor who teaches the material in a great way. He will explain concepts using real world examples so that they are easy to understand, and his notes and extremely clear and concise. If you go to all the lectures and put in the work, you will for sure come out with a good grade!
Dr. Elsabrouty was a great prof for calculus II. I took 267 with a different prof and had to withdraw, so I was nervous going in again. Elsabrouty made the content organized and easy to follow. He teaches very methodically. I struggle with math but found this easier than calc 1 because of him. He is funny and his grading scheme was VERY generous.
This isn't my favourite course or anything, but Dr. Elsabrouty makes it so much more bearable. He's just a kind-hearted and intelligent man who actually cares about his students and about what he's teaching too. Slight downsides: Starts lectures a little too early and runs a little too late every time so never be late, and no assignments.
From my experience Elsabrouty is really meh. His lectures weren't engaging and he mumbled a lot, but I liked that he gave plenty of practice problems. Even so, the assessments being only numerical respose tests felt unfair for a math course and he held off on explaining the grade scheme till after the final. Doesn't deserve his high rating at all.
idk how he got a good rating. His emails are the most poorly written I've ever seen in a professional setting. His lectures are bad - he just mumbles the whole time. His notes are pretty good if you can read them, he writes in cursive. I wouldn't say he is a hard prof, and you can do well in his class, but he definitely is NOT a good prof.
Lectures were brutal but has fantastic notes. Very passive aggressive in emails but ultimately fair. Test difficulty really varied from topic to topic to midterm to final which was tough. Notes are a godsend again - so well laid out and organized and explained. He basically copies them word for word in lecture though.
Very good notes and plenty of examples. The final grading scheme was released when the course finished so it was difficult to know your class standing. Generally, if you complete all of the worksheets and tutorial problems you will be prepared for the quizzes. However, the final exam was difficult and the problems weren't like the worksheets.
Definitely an over-rated professor. His teaching is honestly just meh - monotone lectures filled with mistakes copying word by word from notes that are already posted on D2L. The grading scheme is absurd and leaves you with no understanding during the semester of how you are actually doing. Tests are hard and most questions are numerical response.
Lectures are extremely monotone and most of the time spent in them is him writing something out very slowly (and not legibly) just to say it again, over explains simple things and no explanation for parts of the course (example: the dot and cross product was explained 4+ times in extensive detail in the first few weeks, while course content wasnt)
Very old and not the fastest teacher, but clearly knows the most effective methods to teach many of the course concepts and does it through colourful, thorough, and charming online lectures. Tests can be difficult but many of the questions are nearly identical to ones covered in class.
Video lectures were very long but worth watching (at 1.5 speed) if you need the concepts explained in depth. Midterm was relatively straight forward but final was brutal. Quizzes are identical to problems done in class and exams are similar to worksheet problems. Didn't know your letter grade until the class was over, relatively small curve.
The workload was difficult however this was balanced by Elsa's truly great ability to explain and teach his classes. The notes are some of the best I have read for a math class and his lecture videos, while long, are well paced and well explained.
His notes are god tier and essentially all you need to go through this course. Only issue I had with this course was that the final was absolutely traumatizing, but other than that, the quizzes and the midterm were fine. Also his emails are incredibly funny to read and make my entire day every time he posts them.
Definitely, a hard course as it is, but his notes were very helpful and in depth. Quizzes and tests can be rough as they are all numerical answers online but if you attend his lecture he will walk through questions very similar to that of the quiz. Do the notes and practice questions, the marking can be tough, but if you put in effort you can pass.
The doctor has decades of experience under his belt and as a result his notes incredibly comprehensive and cover exactly what will be tested. (You must first get comfortable with some nitpicks of his handwriting though such as his Q's.) His lectures are only really needed if you are into podcasts of him rereading his notes.
This man knows his stuff. Teaches you many tips and tricks to make questions easier. Lectures can be a bit dry/monotone, but the lecture slides and delivery of information is concise and organized. Examples used in lectures/worksheets are a lot easier than the ones on tests, so make sure to practice difficult questions to avoid shock come test time
Elsabeauty blessed me with his presence. I wasn't aware that we would be graded best on our scores on an IQ test. It turns out my iq is a 95; Elsabeauty considers 120 the minimum for any math major. He forced me to drop this class.
he was the best and nicest math professor I ever had. If you have difficulties he will help you unconditionally. he is very understanding and he respects his students a lot. would definitely take his class again.
not a lot of homework, but on his quizzes there are no partial marks. can lose a huge chunk of your grade on one mistake. I feel as though he has been teaching for so long he is no longer in touch with what it's like to be a student. Expect no sympathy from him. He tends to make rude remarks at the expense of people who did not do well on a quiz.
Most overrated professor in the whole school. How does this man have a 4.9 rating? I have 1 star rated professors better than this guy lol
Professor Elsabrouty was an amazing professor. His quizzes and tests were super fair and if you showed up to the lecture and did the homework assigned you're bound to do well in this class. He teaches a nice mix of theory and actually solving questions during the lecture. He is also super accessible outside of class for any questions you may have.
The best prof ever!
Dr. Elsa's lectures are boring. He just rewrites notes from previous years that can be reviewed in one day, however he doesn't post extra questions done in class so beware. There are no assignments, only d2l quizzes so you can get screwed if you make one minor mistake. Don't gamble your grade on the final as it is much more difficult than quizzes!
Doesn't really give enough time on exams.
The lectures are a bit dry, but not really necessary because his notes are very thorough and detailed.
Video lectures were good, although he speaks slow he still gets his point across in whatever he is teaching. Quizzes in his class were mediocre in difficulty, just make sure you do plenty of practice problems and be very attentive to detail. His final is BRUTAL so be ready for that. Overall good professor, would definitely take again!
I know lots of people love him but my experience wasn't great. As our course coordinator, his lectures were long and mostly him going off on tangents, and his handwriting is nearly impossible to read. His 4-point grading system is also unnecessarily complicated, no one understood how it worked and percentages would have worked so much better.
Each questions on the online quizzes are weighed a lot so a stupid mistake can cost you your grade. You can learn all of the material online because he just rewrites his notes that he already posted on d2l. Study hard for the final because it is more difficult than the quizzes
After doing 277 with online lectures I didn't think he was a good prof, but in-person lectures proved me wrong. In-person he made many jokes in class and gave tips for material from previous courses, which made those concepts way easier. If 277 had in-person lectures, I am fully confident that the class would've gone so much better for everyone.
Professor Elsabrouty's MATH267 class is well-structured, with fair quizzes and tests. While his lectures can be dry, the material is clearly explained. Attending class and doing the homework is key to success. Unstuckstudy AI was a helpful study tool for me alongside the lecture slides.
Very passable course, all quizzes are online and open book. Elsabrouty is excellent at explaining topics (he can go a bit too slow at times but I personally did not mind). 10/10 prof, made the class much easier than it could have been. very well respected.
Has great notes and he's an amazing guy (I had him for W24)
Very simple class if you do his weekly problems and the tutorials. Memorization heavy and graded only by weekly quizzes and a final that covered the second half of the course. Quizzes were closed book but mostly fair during the spring. Final was easy compared to first year finals. Would recommend taking the class with him during the spring.
GOATED PROF 5/5 STAR RATING FOR ME! He's very considerate.
Currently in Math 267. Elsabrouty does not have the greatest teaching skills I'd say but his notes are VERY useful. It's a bit intimidating since the overall grade is based on the 2 midterms and 1 final, but he does try his best for students to get a good grade. I don't go to his lectures but lectures and lecture videos are posted online
Amazing professor, he cares a lot about his students passing this course. While the material isn't the easiest his notes are methodical and easy to follow. If you write out the notes and do the practice provided you'll do fine
Beware of final exam, hardest test I've ever taken
I love how the final curve is FAT
Unorganized.
Extremely Unorganized, all of the notes for this class are hand written which wouldn't be a problem if the notes didn't look like hieroglyphs. Your entire course grade relies on quizzes held weekly with at most 4 questions.
Needlessly long online lectures, watch at 2x speed, weekly quizzes with 4 questions each worth 70% of overall grade determined only by a lazy auto grader. Heard that the final is awful.
The work you put into this class is proportional to the grade you get. I would watch the videos and summarize notes which helped my learning a lot. Elsabrouty is a prof who wants his students to succeed alot.
There's a very clear pathway to getting a good grade—if you show up, do the homework, and review the materials posted online, you'll be more than fine. Elsabrouty provides all the content you need and is a kind individual who genuinely cares. Any bad reviews are a reflection of their own effort and competence Plus, he curves very generously.
He was a very nice person and clearly knows the material, however, he was past his best by the time he taught me, talked very slow, quietly, and his handwriting was not the most easy to read. 70 percent of the course was made up of weekly quizzes, and nothing else. REALLY would have preferred worksheets and assignments. Final was also brutal.
If you actually read the notes and do the practice problems he gives, your success in 277 isn't hard. Weekly quizzes are worth a lot so you better do well on those, make sure you actually do the practice. Final was absolutely brutal. But hey, he curves generously to make up for it sometimes.
His easy weekly quizzes make up 70% of the grade so it is very possible to be successful if a lot of time and effort is put into studying each week. His lecture videos are very long but if you watch them on 2x speed they are helpful. Final was way too long, but you can make up most of your mark by doing well on weekly quizzes.
He makes it very easy for you to succeed if you do the work. In quiz 2 he even sent us a sample prep sheet that we could use to make our lives easier, goes to show you he really cares. Final exam is brutal but weekly quizzes are fair and easy to do well on if you study. His lecture videos while slow are incredibly well done. Great prof 10/10.
Professor Elsabrouty is a great professor to get, and his online videos are great to understand the content. His lectures are not worth going to however as they go over the exact same content as the lecture videos except less in depth. He usually will have an open book online final for 277, this final is really long and I would recommend studying.
The negative reviews about Math 375 are quite unjust, especially for a spring class that will naturally be fast-paced. For a content-heavy class, his lectures are clear and organized + he offers plenty of resources to study from. The weekly quizzes are fair, similar to the questions taught in lectures. He is knowledgeable, caring and a great prof.
Ignore the negative comments about the Spring-375. The Quizzes were really fair, and even the final was pretty fair. His notes are well organized, he tells you what's exactly gonna be on the quiz. Follow the steps, solve the worksheets, and you should easily get a 3.5+ on the quizzes. Likewise for the Final. He's a Great Prof!
The goat. Notes are excellent and in-depth, and doing the posted worksheets on top of it will guarantee you at least a B.
Great class when it came to the Quizzes. HOWEVER, I felt the final was not extremely straightforward. If we received a practice exam to prepare it would allow us not to feel a little bit blindsided on the final.
Calc 2: Goes slow with notes.
Really great professor who truly cares about the success of his students
Honestly hes such a good proff with a good sense of humor his lectures are long but engaging with him going over examples fully and showing you common mistakes hes even people make in the past and tries to be clear with whats important and whats not. One downside is that he is a bit old so you'll need to screame at him if you have a question.
Actual goat, his notes and worksheets are insanely thorough. He let us know beforehand what each question on the midterm and final would be on which let you massively optimize your studying. He isn't the best at fully explaining the concepts at first, my advice is watch Professor Leonard or someone on YT then pair with his notes, you'll be chilling
Calculus is hard, but he made it easier. He's not the best at explaining the topics to begin with. YouTube videos + his notes made the corse a million times easier. Still never gonna recover from sequences and series. He did let us know about everything that was on the term tests and exams which were extremely helpful!
