Avoid at all costs

Proffesor is very hard to understand and doesnt explain cockpits very well. Hard to follow along in class.

If you have not taken calculus before, she DEFINITELY is not the professor for you. She BARELY speaks English and only goes through examples in class. She is a very tough grader. If you do not do things exactly her way on tests, it will cost you. If you have taken calculus before, she still is not the professor for you.

One of the worst teachers ever taken, does not explain subject matter very well and grades extremely hard. When grading her test if it is not done the exact way her examples are done then it is wrong, this includes shortcuts of any kind. Avoid at all costs.

Hard to understand and doesn't explain what she is doing. She also doesn't review for tests and quizzes.

The ONLY reason I had a good grade in this class is because I learned the material in high school. Professor Chen seems to care about her students but is EXTREMELY difficult to understand. She doesn't explain problems or answer questions very well. Gave 2 extra credit assignments worth 20 points each. Didn't take attendance and no required homework

In this class I took all the notes she gave in every lecture, did the optional homework, took the weekly quizzes, and still did not do well in this class. I had to get a tutor for this class because it was as if she was getting as much done as she can as fast as she can and did not explain very well.

Has no empathy for students

This class felt impossible; might have been different if class was in person and webassign was not the main test site. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN CALCULUS IN HIGH SCHOOL!

Cant understand her. She cant teach

Takes the longest way possible to explain the simplest things and gets frustrated when you do not understand as a whole.

Just dont. Shes super rude even if you ask questions. Literally take anyone else.

Difficult to understand, moves too fast for majority of class to understand. Makes work a lot harder and take longer than it should. Have to do steps in certain way in order to be right. Not sympathetic to students at all, expects you to understand the first time. Dont take if you dont have to, get a tutor from the start or youll be left behind.

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! have to do things a certain way, if it is not done exactly to her liking points will be deducted. her words "even if you get the right answer but do not show the exact steps using the method asked, it will be wrong." does not explain things AT ALL, hard to understand, goes at a very fast pace and rude, degrading 2 students

Prof. Chen is extremely hard to understand what she is saying and goes extremely fast throgh content. Does not answer students questions clearly and is rude when asking questions about concepts. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. PROF. If you can help it, don't take calculus at auburn. it's close to impossible. This professor specifically isn't particularly sympathetic with grading and relies way too heavily on the TAs to teach us. She expects this to be your sole focus in life and it's not fun at all.

If you dont have a degree in mathematics then dont expect to pass since she will never slow down and gets annoyed with questions

She is the absolute worst teacher I have ever taken. Rude to students when they ask questions, overall mean and not understanding at all. Terrible teacher, she acts as though her students should already know what she is teaching. DO NOT TAKE HER. Test one had 5 questions, and she is also difficult to understand during lectures.

straight up terrible. She cant teach at all, skips sections and doesn't teach fully. The only was to pass is to teach yourself, I have never had a worse and meaner teacher. The TA's are the only part that help at all. She also just doesn't answer questions.

If you want to save your GPA, I suggest not taking this class. Counts a problem wrong even if the answer is correct if you don't do a problem her way. Accent is hard to understand. Talks to students as if they should already know the material. Talks to students as if they are dumb. Thinks her class is the only class that you are taking.

Dont listen to the two positive reviews, NEVER and I mean NEVER ever take her, the class is literally teaching ourselves, not only can she not teach in the slightest, she is rude and mean

This class has brought me nothing but pain. Calculators not allowed and gets annoyed by people asking questions in class. Moves too fast for the class to understand and has zero empathy for students. Dont take this class unless you plan on having a tutor.

i have been crying for the past 3 days trying to do her class. can't teach to save her life. you cant look back at your notes cuz they wont make sense. zero sympathy. absolutely awful. goes way to fast, hard to understand. does not elaborate at all. does not even finish her current lesson before going to the next one. AVOID YU CHEN AT ALL COST!!!!!

kind of condescending and not very accommodating. definitely recommend getting a tutor or several tutors if you take her or this course. good luck everybody

worst math teacher ive ever had. very negative, and never encouraging. suggest getting a tutor, she rlly cant teach. i pity anyone who takes her. avoid if you can.

She is hard to understand and really condescending, she will have no pity for you and you will have to spend hours teaching yourself, please for your own happiness avoid at all costs

I'm sure she's an amazing person outside of class, but in class, she goes over the material too quickly. She worries too much about completing something before a deadline and not enough about if the students are actually comprehending the lesson she's teaching. You will be relying on tutors and youtube teachers, so good luck.

Shame on Auburn... The absolute worst professor I have ever had in college. Implies you're stupid when you ask questions, just does not give a flying F about her students. You have to learn through tutoring, not her. She is also the most absurd and least understanding professor when it comes to allowing students to make up work. DO NOT TAKE HER.

it's pretty much impossible if you have not taken cal 1 in highschool. She expects you to understand immediately after she explains the concept. Whatever you do please avoid this professor at all cost. You are taught that 1+12 but on the exam, the problems are more like "find the density of the sun and multiply that by the derivative of the moon"!

She never explains anything. Its almost like she gets angry at her students incompetence. The tests are not anything like the problems she practices leading up to them. God awful

Never take her just never take her. Not only can she not teach but she is the rudest person I have ever met. So condescending and won't even let you retake a quiz or test for a university approved excuse unless you go over her head and fight it.

Professor is horrible at communicating (and cannot speak English well enough to be understood), she is not understanding about issues that students have, and she cannot explain concepts well at all. She also thinks that yelling and repeating herself will get her points accross. P.S. She also denied someone's doctor's note when they were sick.

I'm studying for the final that I have tonight and I feel like I haven't been prepared enough this semester. Wish me luck :(

Easily the worst math teacher I have ever had. Extremely difficult to understand and teaches really fast and gets mad if you do not understand a concept. I would strongly advice against taking her.

Just don't. I had Dr. Chen twice over the course of the pandemic in the fall of 2020 and spring of 2021. I had to withdraw from the fall semester class and it was entirely because of Dr. Chen. She obviously knows the information but she can't convey it well to her students. She also doesn't have a nice attitude when speaking with students.

Chen was very unresponsive to critique from struggling students. She relies on TA's to ensure students understand the material rather than going in-depth herself.

Class is graded by 70% tests and 15% quizzes which are all graded very harshly. No bonus or extra credit opportunities, no help when you ask questions, and the homework and practice dont necessarily get you ready for the tests. Also submitted final grades to the university w/o letting us know our averages. Got a B but would not take again.

There was no anyone that I know got A in my section! Normally you will get C,D or F. Even B is only several! She is a GPA killer! Never take ! And she won’t tell you any useful info because mostly the test is not 100% covered by the HW.

She means well but is just not suited to teaching at all. She gave lots of extra credit if you just attend class, but it's unlikely that you will learn any actual math from her. If you do end up having her, I would recommend just watching videos online.

you cant understand a word she's saying and she talks like we're at a kindergarten level. to get us to come to class she used attendance as extra points and thats what got me A's on the exams. Go to class even though going is extremely painful.

Class was unnecessarily hard. I stopped going to lectures because I could not understand the teacher, and invested in online learning materials to pass. Tests were nothing like the review on Cengage and if you want real practice for the test you need to utilize the paper review copies which are not for a grade.

She was the worst prof that I have ever had. She made the class lots harder than it should be. Only the students who gave the A will come and give her a good rate. But is less than 10 % in this class. Dam! Take her class is the worst choice that I have ever made!

She was the worst math prof that I have ever had in here. Not like at all. She never gives you things that really help for your quiz. And she gives out grades based on her hobby.

She means well but is ultimately very hard to understand. Her tests never reflected what we learned in class or on the homework. I would not recommend taking her at all.

Yu Chen is awful!! The class is pretty much impossible. Lectures are a snooze fest. Get ready to have absolutely no idea what is being said. She is practically speaking a different language. Very hard to understand. Only take this class if you like torturing yourself.

i have never been more miserable taking a class and I already took calc in highschool. made the class extremely hard for no reason. absolutely no point going to lectures unless youre superhuman and able to sit thru and pay attention to anything.

took it last semester and I still have night terrors from this class.

The worst professor I could have imagined having. So hard to understand and it is very difficult to learn from her. If you are a math genius, go ahead, if not, good luck.

She did not learn K-12 math so she cannot answer half of your questions. If you can't learn on your own by reading the numbers you wont get a satisfactory grade. I could not understand her and she was not helpful when you asked for help. PS: still wears a mask and latex gloves 2 years post pandemic.

Do not take this professor. You can hardly understand what she's saying and on top of that you can't even read her handwriting. I had to drop this class because it was impossible to learn anything and I failed every test. Save yourself

She screams into her microphone and is not helpful at all. Impossible to understand and I hate the way she teaches, I would do my homework during class time and learn at home. BUT if you can teach yourself things she does give a lot of resources that make it easy to succeed, just do the online homework and the reviews she gives.

Couldn't understand a thing she said, had to drop the class because of it. Study guides has incorrect answers on them for basic math.

Literally cannot speak a word of clear English, it is almost impossible for me to understand what she is saying throughout class while sitting in the front row. She talks fast and makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. I already don't understand the math too well but her accent adds another layer to the difficulty of the course.

Hard to understand, I learned better from youtube and chatgpt. She also schedule tests after breaks which is so annoying, so you get to spend your break studying relearning the material you already had to teach yourself. I would not take this class again in any world such a waste of my time.

Worst teacher you will ever have. Never done this bad in a class. Doesn't speak english. Unsure how she got this job tbh. Went to office hours and still couldn't understand what she was saying and she seemed annoyed the whole time. Regret taking her so much take the 8am with a better professor.
