her power points are great. she makes sure that everyone understands the material before she goes to the next topic. her assignments and her quizzes ensure that the class is doing well. overall, shes probably the best stats teacher at langara.
best teacher!! she encourage student to speak in the class by giving out bonus mark. reviews are easy to understand. almost answer all the question we asked. easy marker! do the exercise and study the note took in class will be very helpful for the tests!!
This was not an easy course, but Yu Ling made it bearable. She has good powerpoint notes of all chapters which are uploaded into myLangara so there is no reason buy the textbooks. She gives answers to the homework questions when she assigns them so it helps when you get stuck. She is kinda cute and tries hard to be funny (not always with success).
She made a boring course interesting, or at least tried too. Straight-forward and fair. She gives hints and advises which material is most important. Take her course for stats!
SO HARD!!!!
I work my butt off in this course and I'm still getting a 60%. Dropping my GPA like nuts and I'm retaking this course as a Statistics Major. REALLY nice woman and teaches really well! HOWEVER if you want a course that will help your GPA or transfer into Sauder, this isn't the course.
Brutal final. Just brutal. Tricky and ambiguous as heck.
Awesome teacher. Tricky questions but very fair. Do take with her!
Hard course;Helpful teacher, who really tries her best that everyone follows.
Really great teaching skills and she is very helpful.
This course is very language based not so much mathematics and I had difficulty understanding her. Very nice person and works hard but marks too hard and doesn't know how to explain things completely. I deserved a better grade than a B+
she's a nice teacher but it's really hard trying to understand what she is saying. When you ask her questions, she doesn't answer clearly. Instead she goes on and on about something else. She talks really slow and has an accent. I would not really recommend her.
hard to understand with her accent sometimes. picks on some people in class, but with good intentions and to make sure you're paying attention. exams are easy if you pay attention in class. don't suggest buying the book, didn't end up touching it. probably only used it a few times.
Tsai has a strong understanding and capability of teaching her material. She does her best to have her students succeed, her only major fault is her heavy accent hinders her clarity, although her written English is perfect. 2 midterms, final, easier group project. Keep up with the assignments for study and you'll do fine. Textbook not required.
She's "very sweet" - really cares about the students and makes sure they understand the content. Best way to be successful in this course is to attend all classes, pay attention and do all the suggested textbook questions. Her midterms are not too hard but you really have to understand the material
Very clear teacher and really funny! She explains the material really well, just study and ask questions if you don't understand. She is a good teacher.
This prof is tough to understand but I gotta admit this class was easy. Show up to class, do some practice questions from her notes and textbook, do her assignments and try on her quizzes. This class requires not a lot of work... if u jus show up to class and listen. Not available for help that often tho. TAKE HER SHES REALLY WORTH IT!!
Yu Ling is a fair marker and explains the course material really well. She do reviews at the beginning of the class of what we learnt in the previous class before moving on to new materials. She also give helpful tips before & during quizzes. Overall, looking forward to take her class again.
Hard time understanding her with her thick accent. Made it difficult to follow along in lectures.
If you come to class, do your homeworks, study for tests (her tests are easy if you come prepared), you'll pass 100%. Basically IF YOU DO YOUR WORK, YOU'LL PASS HER CLASS.
Yu-Ling is a very nice instructor and very helpful. She explains the materials clearly. As long as you study hard, pay attention in class, and do the assignments, you should be fine.
She really, truly cares whether or not you do well in that class. She seriously wants to help. I found that she repeats a lot of the info many times, making it easy to understand and remember. I found her exams easy, and she's a very generous marker.
Yu Ling is the best out of the worst Pangaea stats teachers. She spends a lot of time on all the little chapters, up until the point she nails all the little details in your head! But she barely spends 3 classes on the final exam material which is worth 40%. That is just bad time management on her part. And the final can throw you off really bad.
stat 1123 Very important to attend all classes. Everything on the exams and quizzes are based on notes (do not need the textbook except doing assignments, not necessary purchase textbook in my opinion). She is a very generous marker for exams but tough marker for project. Very nice teacher. She really cares about her students.
She has an accent but not so thick that you wouldn't understand. She will repeat if necessary. Kind of rushed through the last 2 chapters, which were hard. Hard marker for project. Highest mark she will give out is around the 80s. Will give out info about midterm so don't skip class. Difficult course for people who are bad at math like me.
I would suggest her. She does not mind to give partial marks if you write something about the question.
Attend all classes, do all assignments/assigned exercises while reviewing for quizzes + midterms and you will do fine. Accent is strong but easy to get used to. Always there for you if you have questions and wants students to succeed. She marks really easy and makes no surprises for tests. Ending up receiving an A- Great prof !
For stats 1124.. very hard course! after reading rate your prof I thought it was going to be good, but I was wrong. very hard marker! her accent makes it really hard to understand. I am probably going to retake this course especially with a diff prof. worst experience ever, avoid her at all costs. not a gpa booster.
Yu-Ling is a great prof. Her accent is really heavy but you'll still understand her. She does a great job explaining the material and easy As for her exams as long as you study. Really fair marker and she'll even tell you whats on the exams. Highly recommend.
Her exams are easy but the final is BRUTAL. She doesnt prep you well enough for the final.
Exams are easy as long as you read her notes and attend pre-test classes where she tells you what kind of questions will be on the exam. Her accent is a bit hard to understand, but really, just study the notes.
Great instructor that genuinely cares about you. She may pick on certain individuals in class but only because she wants everyone to do well. Lectures are crystal clear, and she has no problem repeating/explaining things again. Exams are straight forward as well, should be an easy A.
Yu Ling is a very caring teacher and she'll go above and beyond for you to achieve the grade that you need. BUT that being said this is a touch course and you need to stay on top of your work at all times. If you come to class and do your assignments, this prof will help you out a lot but if not she doesn't care for you. Final was BRUTAL! studyhard
I love this teacher. She is so king and sweet. Will try her hardest to make sure you understand the material. Statistics overall isn't an easy course, its not supposed to be. She tries to make it as easy as she can on the students though and always gives thorough explanations. Her quizzes are not that hard, read over her notes and you'll get an A.
Final was definitely hard, but if you study the past midterms/quizzes you will do well. She is an amazing prof because she genuinely cares for her students and wants them to do well. Make sure to do the assignments and reading as this is a hard course. Class consists of 2 midterms, 3 quizzes, 4 assignments, 1 group project and a final.
I love mis Tsai's class. Every week i looked forward to be in her class. She is an amazing prof - very understanding, caring and inspiring . Her class is not easy. You better work hard if you want to get a good grade. She is an angel. Please study hard, don't let her down.
I already took stats 1124 before i took her class but i learned SO MUCH MORE than my first prof. She is very kind and understanding and really hates those "VIP" students LOL. If u work hard, do the online stuff and ask her questions and do the practice questions.... guarantee an A.
Dr Tsai is an awesome professor. Her exams are pretty easy since she hints exam questions during lectures, and gives an overview before the exam. She is extremely generous when it comes to marking. Attendence is a must, because you will be lost if you miss out. Study hard and do the practice questions, and you should be able to achieve an A.
She's a good teacher, enjoyable. If you want to do well, do the homework she assigns as practice. STUDY and REVIEW the material. There's a lot of things to know but she goes over everything. She can be a little fast but usually she slows down when she notices her pace. Her accent can make it difficult in the beginning but you'll get used to it.
Basically shes a pretty good prof, other than the fact that her word choice and accent is confusing. However! The assignments she gives you are almost always not covered in class, and the exams arent either. Prob 75% written & very hard. I come to class and pay attention and do the assignments, but when it comes to her tests, its up to God.
Can barely understand her. She goes very fast as well, which is a bad combination. Her comments she makes in class makes it seem like shes very hard to approach. I am surprised she has such a high rating.
The tests are so hard and unclear, it's almost nothing like what she teaches in class. I would not want to take her class again, I advise you all to do the same.
She's such a tough marker, test answers must be precise and ideal to what she looks for word for word. She will consistently pick on you for participation if you miss class or answer a question incorrectly. She does come off a certain way when doing so. You have to work almost excessively for a good grade and assignments are non related to tests.
Hard to understand at first because of her accent but I got used to it. Copy down examples she does in class because it'll help for studying. Tough midterms, only used textbook for assignments, found learning curve very helpful. Her class was enjoyable and found her funny at times. She cares for her students n tells you what will be on the exams
In first, its difficult to understand her accent but after few days you gonna used to it. I was almost dropping it bcz of accent but after 2 classes i realized that i m getting it and its working. Also, she tells u about the exam stuff. Shes easy marker. Just dont drop it after attending first class. It takes some time. Strongly recommended
One of the best professors I've ever had. Yu-Ling likes to minimize calculations by testing you mostly on theory -- write down anything she says that aren't on the PPT slides. Even when calculations are required, she won't deduct marks for minor "silly" mistakes. She also clearly states what will be covered on exams prior to writing.
Awesome lectures! However, make sure you are always paying attention as she may rush through material as there is a lot to cover. Fair exams and even fairer marker :D
She's an angel. She was hard to understand at first because of her accent but it got easier to understand. SUPER easy marker (doesn't take off marks for many mistakes) and is very understanding. Midterms were easy, final was easy. She only puts the basics and tells you what to study. You must do launchpad and fully watch the videos to do very well
This was my first time taking stats and at first I didn't like Yu-Ling because her accent was really hard to understand, but it's fine when you get used it. She's honestly like a college mom, she wants to make sure everyone is succeeding and gives hints during the exams LOL EASY MARKER. Her exams are exactly like her assignments and quizzes!! FAVE!
she's amazing. Her classes are fun, at first it was difficult to understand but by the time everything was fine. You will never fail this course if you will attend all the classes and if you will cover all the material which has been taught by her. exams are pretty much similar to the work we did in class. MUST TAKE.
she's great. accessible out side of class, always ready to help her students when they. like others said about the accent, you'll get used to it. very theory based rather than mathematical, which makes it a lot more fun imo since i hate math. easily pass with just her ppt notes and GO TO CLASS. dont be a VIP lol
Yu-Ling has amazing and very informative lectures. As long as you regularly review the lecture notes and do all the assignments, you should be able to do well in this class. Yu-Ling is very sweet and works hard for her students to grasp a good understanding of statistics.
Hard to understand her accent sometimes goes very quick doesnt explain steps and expects you to know how to do it. Tough marker wants the exact wording sometimes.
Yu ling is HILARIOUS, people say her accent is hard to understand but it really isn't that bad once you get used to it. Her notes are informative and she always gives hints to exams! Not a course to slack off but if you try really hard and attend lectures you'll be fine!
yu ling is amazing! she's definitely one of the best profs i've had at Langara. She has a great sense of humor which makes the long lectures enjoyable. Her accent is hard to understand at first but after a while, you'll get used to it. Would love to take her class again!
She is the best teacher that you can have!!! Her class are awesome.
She's a little bit to understand at first because she has a strong accent but she's the best prof eveeeer! Exams and quizzes are really eaaasy!
She's a good teacher! It may be hard to understand her, but she encourages her students to ask her to repeat what she says. Quizzes and midterms very understandable! Not too hard- she'll tell you what to concentrate on!
She can be hard to understand but she is a good teacher. Doesn't waste your time and tells you exactly what to focus on. If you show an understanding of the concepts, she is a very fair marker. Replies very quickly to emails. Assignments, quizzes, and exams are very straight forward. Material is tough but doable. Don't buy the textbook.
She's a great prof and like others have stated already it is difficult to understand her at first but you get used to it really fast. Her tests and quizzes are just like homework. Overall, one of the best stats profs as she wants her students to do good. Also, try not to skip class or she'll call you out.
The sweetest! I like the way she teaches and it's clear she cares about her students a lot. Every lecture is important and she doesn't waste time, so skipping isn't a good idea.
She was such a cool prof I've ever had. As people said, she has an accent but you will get used to it. She is funny, she shares her experiences and story for examples in class. Materials are not super hard and understanding them would be very helpful. She takes attendance just to know that if you take the class seriously. The bestest prof ever.
She is a good Ouutlier. I spent less than a few hours in the course studying for quizzes and midterms, did assignments the morning before they were due, and still got a good grade. If you passed gr 10 math or took Calculus like me ;(, than this course is lightwork compared to other courses like bio 1190 or English 1127. Her accent tho.. good luck!
Be aware of her accent. I couldn't understand anything she taught . She was a tough grader and would make it mandatory to turn on your camera so that she can see what you are doing. Just think before you choose her.
Yu-Ling was really easy at the beginning of the course but after Midterm 1, get ready to work and study hard for your grade. Her exams are more on the easy but HEAVY side. The given amount of time for midterms are a bit unreasonable, from what I know, many people have complained about not being able to finish their midterms. Anyway, she's good.
One of the best professors at Langara. Pay attention to the examples during the lectures and understand them since similar ones will appear in the quizzes and exams.
Worst instructor ever.
She is always partial to students and makes them feel worse. Please don't risk yourself.
not recommended at all!!!!!!
She is one of the bad instructor i got for my stat1123. She dont even check the assignment by own and make lectures to its end level of difficulty. She even dont know what she teach, all she is concerned about is attending classes.
She is a people-person, what makes all a huge difference when talking to STATS or MATH professors. She knows it is difficult and is always willing to help. Communication with her is key and she will always help you if she sees your are working hard and understand the content and doing your fair share. She has a strong accent, but who doesn't.
She is the bestttt..!!!
She is the best Professor . I always attended her class and sometime met in office hours . She always respond to email with positive response . Do assignments, exercises and class examples you will get good grade . With good grade I meant A . Do not skip any class and listen to her instructions . Do not skip any exam or quiz .All d best.
Once you get over the thick accent over zoom you'll see that she's an amazing teacher. Extremely helpful! She would reply to my midnight emails immediately despite having class with her at 8:30AM the next day! Highly recommend taking her class and always ask for help!!
You can tell Yu-Ling is very passionate about statistics. When you get over her accent, you will realize that she tries to make the material as clear as possible. She wants her students to succeed and provides them with the resources to do so. She would even reply to my emails at 1am.
Yu-Ling was by far the most difficult and rude teacher I have had. She was dismissive when you would ask questions, sometimes say that we had garbage responses and refer to some questions as 'dumb'. Her slides were vague and didn't offer recordings or further online resources. You also feel forced to buy the online text book to get an automatic 5%.
The class overall is Confusing. She does not care about our learning preferences and feedbacks. She does what she likes. You got no saying. There are typos on the solutions that she posts and if you have any of them in your assignment you will get a zero.
When we ask doubts related to exam she doesnt properly clears and deducts marks of minor things.
Very nice and polite, takes time to go over tests and quizzes in depth. Great teacher, you can tell she truly cares about each and every student
querococovaiable? If you didnt understand what this means, i didnt neither. Her english makes the lecture so much harder to understand. She makes sure to spend 50% of the class calling for attendance.
She was a great prof. Definitely be ready to study though. She tests hard. But is very caring and always took good care of me if I needed help. Funny and likes to make random jokes. Sometimes because of her accent she can be hard to understand but repeats herself if she feels like she confused students!
Pretty good teacher overall, once you get used to her accent you can understand the materials easily. She make jokes with the examples she uses for the lecture. Just do and understand all the assignments and you'll be good for the test and quizzes.
Overall I enjoyed being in Yu-Ling's class. Her teaching style is lecture-heavy, so make sure you attend class. Textbook optional. She is strict but as long as you show up and show that you're making an effort, she will help you succeed, including replying to emails after hours. If you can get past her heavy accent, she has a good sense of humour.
I don't understand why there were negative reviews. Yes her pronunciation is not perfect like local people, but she really did well in teaching. If you can get used to her teaching (for me only took the first 2 weeks), do the homework, then you will definitely ace it. She is very caring and generous in giving grades too. Definitely recommended.
Yu Ling's lecture notes are easy to follow and she goes over many examples to help us clearly understand the material. There is a lot of work tho. Many assignments, one group project, quizzes, and tests. Her tests and quizzes are straightforward just like her lectures but calculations are time-consuming so make sure to practice a lot.
lecture is very confusing and non-organized. Exam questions are also confusing and non-predictable. Avoid this prof unless you wanna retake this course.
Yu Ling was an okay teacher, knew what she was teaching. However,I found it easier to teach myself outside of her class. She was unclear & showed her annoyance when nobody could answer her questions. Her examples helped but I found her slides to be confusing & unorganized. I wouldn't take her unless I had to. Exams were fine, just study her examples
Difficult prof and course
Her lectures and explanations are confused as are her notes. She doesn't sound nice when she talks or asks students to do certain things sometimes. She will repeat something not related to the lecture over and over which is a waste of time. It's not hard to pass but it's difficult if you want to get an A or actually learn something.
her accent is so bad which makes it difficult to understand also her slides are unorganised. don't take this professor
She is one of the best in Statistics. You learn better when you attend the classes because she explains every single point in its best way.
At first, her accent is hard to understand but eventually, you'll get used to it. She tries to make the class fun with her jokes and "VIP" students, lol. Great class and she isn't a tough grader. If you are always attending her class, expect that she will be good to you too.
Her accent is the worst no one can ever understand her , lectures are so annoying you can't even believe and if you're late a little bit she would insult in front of whole class and keep saying you VIP in whole the class
Most of the students taking the stats course are not very smart. Someone with a background knowledge of even a high school level math like precalculus can handle this course easily. Just show up to the lecture and don't skip. Yuling gives you all the exam questions like 80% of the exam questions during lectures and people still complain like- pls.
She might look cold on the outside but she's the nicest professor inside. Just show up to every lecture.
She's a great professor. Her accent can be hard to understand at times, but overall, it's fine and sufficient to follow her lectures. She's funny and often makes the class laugh. Just don't skip the classes, attend all classes, especially before quizzes, midterms, and final. 90% of the final comes from her review. Highly recommend her!!
Prof is VERY CLEAR on what is going to be included on the mid-terms — quizzes and exams are easy. Prof has an accent however she is easy to understand and she goes over examples and makes sure students understand the concepts. I showed up to half of the lectures and still ended up with a decent mark. Just study the lecture slides & assignments.
Prof can be tough, but attend class and put in the effort - she'll help you succeed. Lectures can be disorganized, but unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prepping. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course.
Really good prof imo. Only bad part of the course was the group project but exams were easy and the content was understandable. She is very nice and will help with any questions, that is if you aren't a "VIP student" (people who don't show up to class). Super easy A if you put the work in.
Make sure to attend all classes and ask for help when necessary as the prof will happily explain it to you. Hints for the assessments will be told. Make sure to you really understand.
Awesome prof. Had fun in their class. The only thing I found annoying is the group projects. Otherwise, all is fair. Make sure to attend the lectures.
Amazing class. Do take it with her.
Good prof👍🏽 Though, with her accent it's kinda hard to understand so you would have to pay really close attention to what she's saying. Tests and quizzes, she'll let you know what to expect. Group projects…yeah…if you can manage dealing with lazy ppl, then go for this class.
Her accent made lectures hard to understand.
Prof has a funny humour. Has an accent which makes the lectures hard to understand.
Yu-Ling's lecture is all over the place. Her slides are so disorganized that I have to go back to back to see which problems/examples are related to each topic. Because of her accent it's difficult to understand what she's saying, so mostly it's going home and self-studying. Quizzes are alright but wouldn't say it's easy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you want to save your GPA, take this course with a different prof. Her accent makes it hard to understand the lecture. Lecture is all over the place and most of the time, it's you doing the studying for the content covered in class.
Some people may be okay with having her as a stats prof. But for me, i wouldn't recommend her. The way she explains the slides does not make sense, it's too rushed. Most of the time you would have to go home and study the notes yourself or either use AI to explain it to you. So, take this course with some other prof( highly recommended).
Okay prof. Fair quizzes. You need to put the effort to study and understand the concepts for quizzes and midterms.
doesn't really explain anything well. picks on people a lot and expects you to know the answer when she has done a terrible job at teaching it. only got a good great from self studying. not a great teacher.
Mostly did self studying for this course to get a good grade. Although, if you ask her for help during office hours, she is willing to explain the topics to you. She also replies to emails during the weekends which is a bonus. Her test is a bit tricky. Would give partial marks for trying the question. Open book exams, but not for quizzes. Easy HW.
Would help you when you ask questions during office hours. Two things to know: 1.) Does pick on students during lecture to answer a question. 2.) Takes attendance for every lecture Make sure to study and practice ALOT and you'll grasp the concept(especially for those who struggle in this course). Quizzes and midterms are alright.
I love Yu-Ling. She's very clear about what's on exams. She has an accent but u get used to it quick. The class isn't difficult, and if you show up to class she'd really help you get the best marks. Midterms and finals are straightforward and based on her slides. Very generous with giving partial marks. A little effort goes a long way in her class.
Yu-Ling does have an accent, but it's easy to get used to. She's generous with marks on exams, so be sure to write down at least something. Make sure to attend lectures, as she gives hints on which questions to study for the exams. Does require practice and self-study outside of lectures to get familiar with the material (and to get a good grade).
Prof Tsai is very caring about her students. She goes over lectures well and asks people questions to make sure they actually understand the topic. I haven't been to her office hours, but she definitely does have them. The class is pretty fun and enjoyable if you know the material well. Overall, she is the best teacher I've had this semester. S
