Difficult to understand. Friendly in office.
good marker, notes are good for assignments and tests
Hard to understand unless your an excellent math student like me
very nice and intelligent. teaches this course very well. decently clear.
hard to understand..not very clear...easy tests
One word: Twee . Enough said

actuany, it sounds more like feree.

worst possible prof that could ever teach this course.
The First time i asked a prof for extra help or worksheets of some sort and simply got a response of "No"
Good prof. She tries her hardest and puts alot of effort in. Her teaching skills could use improvement, but she's a new prof people, give her a chance! Anyways, she was nice, and helped me whenever i needed help.
I don't like her teaching style. The notes weren't very good but the explainations were sometimes lacking. The book can fill in the gaps. She made up for a tough midterm with a tame final so I have to give her credit for that.
very sweet woman, and so enthusiastic in class. the english situation is a little interesting, but you can easily follow what's on the go. just be warned, the tests aren't based on assignments, so have to know theory and not applications!
tries hard? she would hardly help even during her office hours, the TA was much more helpful! thanks karl
Doesn't teach it too well. Notes are not very good. Things are very unclear and she can be very hard to understand at times. A really nice person but not a good teacher.
She's very sweet to talk to, but she's not engaging at all and her teaching leaves more than a little to be desired.

Hard to understand, english was not very fluent. When I tried to ask her about a problem, she just tried to talk it out instead of wtiting it down. Notes are messy.
Not very engaging or helpful, though she seems nice as a person. Wouldn't recommend her.
Great notes, never had an issue with her. Both courses, I found her assignments fair and reflective of the notes. She is not good for anyone who needs to ask constant questions or for those who have difficulty figuring things out on their own. If you understand the material, practice and study, her courses are excellent.
take the best advice of you life and remove yourself from her class
Hard to understand at first but has a (somewhat) contagious love of the course, which helps.
I (unsuccessfully) tried to get into the other prof's class when I found out I would have Yuan, but she isn't bad at all. Her notes were excellent and her accent isn't hard to understand. Her assignments are good preparation for the tests and the final, and she's a fair marker.
She is impossible to understand. Notes are full of mistakes, both in grammar/spelling and mathematical errors. Very nice person, but not helpful as a professor. Does not prepare students for tests/exams. Her website is hard to find and navigate. Do anything you can to get out of her class. Roughly 20% of students attend lectures.
One of the best professors I have met. A lot of people might disagree due to her accent but that doesn't bother me. She writes down note and explains everything in good detail, makes concept very clear. Assignments are related to classwork and exams are very fair. She is very nice outside of class and is willing to help with any problem.
very nice lady, knowledgable and passionate about her field. i found her classes difficult to follow due to her accent and her messy notes. her tests were fair and she's nice enough she will help you with whatever you need. cant say i recommend her but if you end up with her you'll be ok. stay on top, read the textbook and go to the help centre
Incredibly hard to understand. Gives excellent examples that relate to the questions given on the assignment.
Great professor! Lectures are easy to follow and can take great notes. You know exactly what is expected from you. Would definitely recommend him!!!
She make math interesting
Professor Yuan is legendary. Goes out of her way to help every student she possibly can. Great professor. Teaches difficult material but will help you as much as she possibly can. You cant go wrong choosing Dr. Yuan as a prof.
Yuan is by far one of the best prof in the math department. She make things very clear and will do anything to help his students. 100% would take again.
So many mistakes in lecture notes, worksheet, AND sample exam. Lecture notes are incomplete and nonsense. Have to study the lecture notes and the lecture recordings TOGETHER as she "draws the missing essential details and graphs" on the notes. Accent is real, shes difficult to understand.
Doesn't really give good feedback on assignments, sometimes marks mathematically correct things as wrong, lecture notes lack rigor, assignments and worksheets are not hers, not that great at teaching the material, etc. I would call her a bad math prof, but it could be a lot worse. She does care about her students though and might grade by the curve
Best advice: attend lectures. Her notes are hard to understand by themselves, but if you attend the lectures, really pay attention and take notes, you will be just fine in her class. It's easy to get lost and there is no feedback on evaluations (computer-graded quizzes), but I've had worse profs. She's super nice and can explain math well.
10% Qs, 30% MT, 60% F. Grade based on test performance under all profs this semester. She was energetic in teaching the course. The notes and material can be confusing on their own but with her in-class explanations, and practicing posted samples it's not bad. Negative- takes a few lectures to understand her ex lambos = numbers and scanar = scalar
To get the best out of Professor Yuan's course, attend lectures and try to stay awake if they're in the morning. The easiest way to get through is to understand the material from the very beginning at her lectures, then solidify your understanding with her quizzes, worksheets, and notes. Don't slack in this course, you'll quickly get lost.
Stubborn with grading. Learn the course through youtube videos it will help tremendously. 2050 is a pretty visual math course so it helps to find videos that help visualise the theory.
At the start of the semester I thought I would hate her, as well as the material. However, as time went on I started to appreciate her teaching style. The exams WILL be hard (the midterm in specific), so study well for them. Being a test heavy course, you will absolutely regret under preparing for the midterm.
Pros: - Teaches well - Exams are based on assignments - Lecture notes are well written - Is a good person Cons: - Strong accent (4/5 lectures and you will get used to it) - Lecture notes are disorganized - Office hours are helpful - No extensions (didn't need any because she gives well enough time to work on the assignments)
I would rather dangle from the ceiling than read her notes. Lectures and notes normally go over extremely easy examples, but assignments are extremely difficult. No real place to refer to to understand how to solve questions. Notes are terrible.
No Seriously no If she is the only slot available this semester take it next one. You're welcome. I'll try and keep it brief. Accent, notes, communication, feedback, group projects. And loves to nitpick places to take marks. I(math major) did well but I understand many other disciplines often take this course and you will likely struggle with yuan.
Took her class for calculus 3 in winter 2024. Over half of the class did not pass because of her, while the course itself is not inherently difficult. If there is no other choice, be prepared to learn concepts yourself. Would not recommend.
This was the worst course I've done, prof was very hard to understand and follow, she is not tech savvy at all which caused delays during class time. Was not approachable at all, and was very condescending. Would avoid her at all costs! There was a group project and expectations were very unclear and no feedback was given on why we got the mark.
Extremely bad! The diction the way she speaks and treats people is awful.
Awful, just awful. Avoid like the plague.
Before I took a course with her I used to enjoy and understand Math. Now, I only understand it. She really managed to take the soul out of the subject. 26/52 people in my section failed. Avoid.
The worst prof I've ever had. Her lectures are incomprehensible (it's a series not a serious!!). Weekly assignments that contain questions that you'd never be able to solve without looking them up. Majority of grade is gained through midterms/finals. Lecture slides are pure notation and overcomplicated and her annotations are chicken scratch.
I got good grades on the assignments, but understanding the material and getting the right answers on the midterm didn't matter. No feedback, the notes are lacking, and spends lectures reading those notes.
Professor Yuan is the absolute worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of having. Yuan puts zero effort into helping her students, and she STEALS all of her worksheets from another prof. On top of this Yuan does not even post the answers to said worksheets, and it is extremely difficult to understand her English as she has a very thick accent
Where do I even begin. Yuan yuan is single handedly the worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Her tests are ridiculously unfair, her teaching is horrendous, you cannot read her writing at all or understand what she's saying 90% of the time. AVOID.
Professor Yuan is the worst professor I have ever had. Her notes are nigh unreadable, and her tests are unfair with no time to complete them. She is unclear, at times rude, and lacks clarity in her feedback. Avoid this professor at all costs. I'd sooner walk from one end of the Sahara Desert to the other than attend another 9am with Professor Yuan.
A heavy accent combined with disorganized notes and terrible hand writing makes both her lectures and notes useless. Gives little to no feedback on wrong answer. However, her exams are very similar to the homework assignments and there is a small project which is good for some free marks. Just be prepared to teach yourself!
Let me put it this way: there's life. Then there's life with Yuan. You don't want life with Yuan. All of the reviews are true. There is a heavy accent, and she makes no effort to structure the course. There are worksheets and assignments, and a final group project. Use the textbook and say your prayers. Avoid her unless you have no other choice.
She's really bad at teaching. Enough said.
Just prayers can save you if you are taking her course.
Grading was extremely harsh, provided no feedback on lost marks, had no clear marking scheme for questions on assignments and midterms, was unhelpful in office hours, and was frequently confrontational and rude when grading was questioned. Did not teach material effectively.
I had a disappointing experience with Professor Yuan Yuan. Her lectures were confusing, she tricked us with misleading questions, and she rarely responded to emails. I'd rather work at McDonald's till I'm 60 than deal with her class. Grading was inconsistent, and feedback was minimal. I wouldn't recommend her class at all. NEVER AGAIN.
I had a frustrating experience with Professor Yuan Yuan. Her lectures were tough to follow, and she often used misleading questions. I'd rather be homeless than deal with her class. She was unapproachable, rarely replied to emails, and grading was inconsistent with little feedback. Overall, I wouldn't recommend her class if you want support.
Yuan Yuan gives me something to look forward to 3 days a week.
Worst prof ever! Rude and unhelpful. Notes are useless, and you must teach yourself. Most students fail or drop her course. She ruins the joy of math—don't take her class if you love math! Exams are way harder than assignments, and she misleads about exam content, giving problems even she can't solve!
This professor lacks originality, copying materials from other profs while providing virtually nothing in her own notes. Her teaching is so ineffective that even ChatGPT could do a better job. Honestly, the university should save us all the trouble and just provide free ChatGPT accounts instead of letting her teach. Avoid her course at all costs!
This course was an incredibly frustrating experience. The lectures were poorly structured and didn't provide clear explanations of the material. The professor seemed disorganized and often skipped over important concepts, leaving students confused. The notes were vague and unhelpful, making it impossible to rely on them to study effectively.
This professor is a stain on the Math department at MUN. How she continues to “teach” is beyond me. I would spend 6 months in Guantanamo Bay over doing another course with Yuan. She's a nasty goblin
DO NOT take her class, tests are nothing like assignments or worksheets. Get ready to chatgpt the whole course. Her notes useless, just confuse you more. Went to ask her a question about her practice question during office hours, she could not do it, she looked at the answer sheet and still gave the wrong answer. God knows how she became a teacher.
I would rather choose to learn another language than try to communicate with her. Absolutely horrendous! Never ever take her class.
if newton took this course he would have discovered anti gravity so he could yeet himself off this planet cause honestly that's so much easier than sit for her exams.
Avoid Dr. Yuan at all costs. Her exams are abysmal and require some unrealistic higher level of knowledge. Her notes are egregious and only confuse you more. No point to attend class as she offers no meaningful commentary (if you can even understand them through her extremely thick Chinese accent) and her annotations are chicken scratch. Avoid her.
Horrible prof, do anything to avoid. Ineffective lecturer due to poor English and ability to explain any course material. Shes rude over email. Yuan posts worksheets without answers to make assignments harder, and her final exam (for which she also posted a sample final WITHOUT ANSWERS), while not super difficult, was WAY too long for 2 hours.
worst course i have taken to date AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH course rating: bad enough i wanted to **** myself at some point good enough that i still managed to keep my 2 year no racism streak i don't even think MUN knows about her lol
Dr. Yuan sucked. At first, I thought she wasn't so bad, and then the second midterm hit. The class average was lower than my hopes of passing the class. The course material is easy and interesting, but Yuan's tests are horrific, and the final wasn't awesome. A coding assignment gave easy marks, but not enough to save us. I am so happy to be done.
Yuan is the worst person I have ever met. She is rude and hostile in her classroom and office hours. She can't speak English and makes no attempt to be understood. Her grading is harsh and random. There's no rubriks and almost no feedback posted for any midterm or assignment. I emailed her concerned about my grade, she read it to the class. Avoid.
Had her in winter 2023 for m2050 and at the time she was welcoming and helpful Had her in fall 2024 for m2000 and those features were lost, lectures did not help with material so just using ChatGPT for the assignments and using YouTube and CGPT to learn the material Tests were 85% of grade so practice sheets & put sample final in CGPT to practice
Yuan yuan is horrible. I had to email her to get my copy of the test, which she sent the uncorrected version went to office hours her door was locked and made me wait 10 mins before answering during the posted time Second test was even worse, I went to office hours to seek clarification and she not only didn't explain what I did wrong but mocked me
Worst math prof ever. Chicken scratch notes. Heavy accent. Hard grader. Avoid at all costs. She single-handedly made me want to switch majors. I have nightmares of taking her course. She makes math torture. Would rather go water boarding in Guantanamo Bay
Honestly, the worst prof I've ever had. This is the only course in my life that I almost failed. you need to understand her accent before you understand the course material. Cried before every midterm and especially before the final, the grading scheme was very unclear, and so were her emails. Avoid at all costs...
Yeah she wasn't great. I did find the final pretty chill though.
Probably the worst prof I have encountered to this date. Her lectures are pointless because she has the thickest accent ever and you can't understand a single thing. She can't answer questions. Very rude and condescending in person. She went for vacation instead of grading our midterms. She doesn't give announcements for anything, even midterms.
i started praying, im an atheist
take up a religion to get by
