He makes hilarious comments, often demanding his students to agree w/ him.
Generous prof
Really good prof. Explains concepts really well. Extremely helpful.
This guy doesn't give his own notes, just regurgitates exactly the ones online

If u want to get a fail, go ahead, take his course
good notes, good lecturer, but tougher exams
No Comments
simply terrible !
exams are reasonable, but lectures are not good as other profs
Study prof Keshet's notes and don't go to his lectures
reasonable midterms, bad lecturer
No Comments
Very bad in lectures, and does not have very much patience when you need help
awful lectures and note, but exam and midterm ok
good prof and very approachable
doesn't prepare students well enough; doesn't know how to teach; but an okay guy
With this wonderful man's inability to teach, i got my first F ever,.. GO FIGURE

Dr. Li is the man. Its just a piece of sheet
He's boring & impatient... Always says This is so easy even tho itz not
easy midterms, VERY different final. BAD lecturer, boring, incoherent, doesn't understand students' questions. though i got a better mark in li's math than keshet's.

Strong chinese accent, does not explain examples.
GOOD Prof....explain well on MATH Questions..but not on MAth Qs which invloving English..stuffs.
Very Good Prof....explained concepts very well...open only to questions that aren't entirely stupid to ask...

the worst prof ever...gives no help and motivation to students...very impatient

Very good notes. Even if you don't understand him in class, the notes explain everything well. A bit impatient to students who ask stupid questions which he/she should have learned in elementary or high school.Quite a funny person (with his accent etc).
Good prof. His notes are clear. funny sometimes
one week before the final i had to ask my friend how to do integration, she explained it in an hour. i despised this class. the way Li provided an alternate method of integration without first explaining the normal method screwed me up.

His notes were very good. and he went at a slow pace, so it was easy to follow along.
Very detailed notes (you can d/l them off the website) - but all he does is read them out in class. Midterms were ok, final was tough. If you go through the problem sets, you should be fine. I'm not planning to take another course from him though.
unwittingly amusing, but relatively harmless if you've learned integration before
I did not enjoy this class. If at all possible get either Dr. Leah Keshet, or Professor Israel.
Language barrier was a bit of a problem, and he wasn't very receptive to questions. Otherwise, math is math, not exactly the best subject to teach or to learn.
He looks like George from Seinfeld. Funny guy bad teacher. Not very helpful
not the nicest guy when you ask him questions during the lectures, although his tests are fair

He was the most arrogant lecturer ive ever had!He makes you feel stupid and is absolutely no help at all. he doesnt know how to teach properly, is all over the place and nobody understood a thing!! worse ever prof!!!
He goes through everything in detail, and emphasizes every little thing, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. The course was pretty easy, midterms are super simple. Dr. Leah Keshet probably is a better choice but no, not Professor Israel.
He's a much better teacher than Isreal. His midterms are quite easy and his homework marks are based on completion only so as long as you put a little bit of effort into the course you'll do really well. Also, he wears very cute pink and purple shirts.
midterms are easy. hw/lab marks are easy. final is HARD. he can't teach and never answers the question that you ask (although he tries). lecture notes/examples are off keshet's notes. just download those cause his are identical.
When you see him during his office hours, he always says "Agree with me! Agree with me!". Seems like a pretty nice guy, but kind of pushy.
He said the final was going to be easy, but it turned out as hard as skeleton. Speaks with heavy accent but forgivable. Needs to improve his spelling though as he cannot spell basketball in class.
tests are too easy.. they dont prep you for the killer final exam at all...
His lectures aren't clear because he doesn't explain material well. He goes too fast and rarely stops to ask students if they have any questions.
dr. li is uber- boring, and makes math a boring subject. he knows what he is talking about, however often you cannot undestand him with his asian accent. similar to most math profs, but not as clear.
He isn't a good prof, he doesn't cover things throughly and isn't clear on his explanations. His nice though, well in front of the class, he counts 3 out of the 4 midterm and gave his extra 5 min in the final exam. His very arrogant during his office hours. He wears cute pink shirts though.
Dr. Li isn't TOO bad. He is pretty easy on the midterms and only takes best 3 out of 4. and marks hw and labs on completion! Final is pretty hard though, okay VERY hard.
The guy knows the subject..but the problem is he doesn't how to expalain to his students!! I mean i spent hours at home just tryin to figure out what exactly he did in class!
Dr.Li is a good Pro.too much homeworks, if u do them by yourself, u will get good grade on the exams. Midterms are really easy, juz like the homework format. Final is a little more difficult. If you study, you can get A or better.
Very dirty prof, sneeze in front of class with everything on his hand and ran out of the room, come back with a tower explaining he got that from his daughter...very bad in explaining things, never understand what he talks about
the worst class ever. wish i didnt have to take it. He barely ever cared about what and how he taught us.
The way he teaches this course is calculation intensive. He seemed to enjoy giving calculation intensive questions on the exams.
Very helpful prof...
wrost prof ever. always "Gosh I'm completely messed up"in every class.Has bad temper and speaks strong Chinglish. Not responsible for the last few classes, and always speaks out loud during midterms and final. Don't choose his lesson if you wanna survive.
The textbook sucks, and he liked to give prove questions instead of calucation one. Midterms and Final are not really hard, but time is limited! Overall, not recommend to take his class
He is a very narrow minded person, and obviously treats students unequally. and even only responses emails that he likes to.Keep correcting himself in the lectures but still, lots of mistakes cannot be corrected even by himself.Have little respect to students, and some of my classmates suspected he has racisim. He also claimed he doesn't wanna teach.

There are professors who are poor lecturers because they are very unclear, are disrespectful to students, or are ill-prepared. He was all of these.
How come UBC hire him???
He is fantastic in each and every way. Made the learning environment sooooo friendly and enjoyable. Flexible, nice, caring. really helped to get through weekly problem sets. Highly recomended!
It's like being taught by a math-a-magician who shows you his tricks. Excellent, clear, and concise.
He made learning math fun, and his tangents about other subjects were entertaining. Seriously, one of the best math profs I've had in a long time. His midterms are fair, similar to the assignments and multiple choice q's really do test your knowledge on the subject. He covers almost all material needed in lecture, so go to the lectures.
Don't let his ethnicity dissuade you from chosing Dr. Li. He is very comprehensible and convey the subject matter very efficiently. He'll go into detail at first and then provide shortcuts to aid you thereby increasing your speed. I'm not very good at math but did rather well. Recommend over other prof's during the 2008W-Term 1
has a tendency to go off topic and blab for more than ten minutes. extremely hard midterms result in a lower average than most of other sections... the good thing is that he's actually nice and funny. i bet he's smart but he just doesn't know how to teach
At the beginning of the term, he told us he hasn't taught math 102 since 2005... and I now know why. He expects you to have basic concepts understood very well before asking him questions or he gets frustrated at your lack of ability (ie. how did you get in my class without knowing this?). He goes through class quite fast and midterms can be hard.
Horrifying diction, impatient, rude. After second midterm, he said, and i quote, "Now i know this question was on your exam and I am teaching it now, but that's ok". Class time wasted on stories about his life in China, his family, etc. Taught math 103 content towards the end when the most of the class needed help on other things.
I seriously could not stand this class with Dr. Li. He seems to know how to put people down and make you feel so small and stupid! His midterms were irrelevant to the his lecture notes! I always fell asleep in his class and most people didn't bother attending his class.
His notes is very clear and organize. He is really helpful if you ask him question during his office hour. He gives out old midterm for us before our midterm - the real exam questions will asking for the same skills as the old midterm, the only difference is for the numbers and wording.
Really confusing notes...boring lectures...pronounces "idea"="idear"...horrible midterms...and brings people down...seriously, I ended up not going to half of his lectures because I just looked at the notes online. That's how horrible his lectures are. Now I know having a good professor is a road to success.
Attending his lectures require patience, A LOT of effort, and willingness to ignore what he is saying and just copy down his notes. Thats why I ended skipping half of his lectures. His notes are unclear and he is EXTREMELY rude to students and have a natural talent for putting people down, both during and after lectures. His english is very bad!
Dr. Li is great compared to many other profs. The only reason why he is getting such bad ratings is because, as first years, we aren't used to this new style of learning. He is very helpful if you ask him questions during office hours, and he tries his best to help his students.
Very slow and teach different method from the one used in the lab and most people get bad marks for lab. Talk unimportant stuff in the class too much.
His midterms are very easy and his notes are very clear. If you put 5 hours of effort a week in this class you will end up with an A guarantee.
Sometimes hard to understand when he is teaching in class. But he really enjoys maths and will be eager to help you when you ask questions; in class or during office hours.
Do NOT take this course if you don't know calculus already! because Dr. Li doesn't really teach you calculus like other courses... about Dr. Li: He doesn't care about the course at all! He basically just copies everything in Adam's textbook on the board and uses last years' exams and HWs. Be prepared to learn it all by yourself.
Why does he teaches us more difficult stuff while we don't even understand the simple one?
His lectures aren't too bad, but seriously needs improvement. Most of the examples he gives in class are too simpleeasy compare to the actual exam and webwork problems, making you question why you're even here. Don't be surprise if you have to reteach yourself everything. Ironically he dislikes students who don't show up to his lectures as well.
Good luck learning from him. The only reason I got through with this guys is cause I had prior Calculus Knowledge. If you go to his office hours, he'll try to get rid of you asap. If you ask for help in class, he will treat you like a retard. If you ask him for help on a problem bank question, he will tell you that you should know this stuff. 3/10
Dr Li is a good lecturer for those who already know basic calculus. His accent can sometimes be hard to understand. Passionate about math
Umm, generally his class is good for those have calculus foundations. In this term he only gives one midterm but many quizzes. Skip class was okay for him, class notes are uploaded and he would even email everyone to remind the quizzes so nobody would miss it. Maybe his accent is a little hard to understand, but it's not a big deal :)
His lectures can be extremely dull and boring, but he does manage to crack a joke once every couple of weeks. However, he posted his course notes online and that was the easiest way for me to learn. Many people in my class skipped constantly and still ended up with high grades. Majority of the course content can be learned without the prof's help.
You will not learn in his class. You are pretty much on your own if you got this guy. I went to office hrs to go over my midterm and he legit laughed at me for putting the wrong answer down and kept on saying "IT'S OBVIOUS" without even explaining. He made me hate calculus so really recommend staying away from his classes!!
Great prof, amazing notes, my peers and I had no issues following. One of the best profs at UBC.
Nice and funny professor. Taught mostly what was in the book, so attendance was not very important. The material was super easy but he made the tests too long to finish, so the class average ended up being much lower that I thought was fair.
Really interesting class. Talked a lot about his research and made sure to give plenty of examples for conceptual understanding. Works with the class to make sure everything is fair and understood. Go visit in office hours, he's a great guy!
I wouldn't recommend taking this prof. His lectures are really bad. Barely understand what he tries to explain in class. He doesn't clarify people's doubts properly. His lecture notes are full of bugs and mistakes so you can't even study at home because you'll be learning the wrong things from the lecture notes.
Gets frustrated and angry at students during office hours. He went MIA the week before our 40% project was due and then got mad when too many students showed up to his final office hours. He said "Why didn't you ask me earlier?" WE COULDN'T. Also doesn't respond to emails. Basically useless. Also spends way too much time talking about himself.
horrible at responding to emails and generally inaccessible. makes mistakes and backtracks a lot in lectures. not helpful at all, people did too well on the midterm so he made the final ridiculously hard. the subject is interesting and easy enough though
Professor Li is the worst professor I've had all semester. Not only does he never explain concepts thoroughly, but he expects a lot out of his students with minimal explanation of concepts. The midterms are purposely long and difficult but he claims they are "easy and straightforward." I would not recommend taking any math course with Professor Li.
Not dropping this class was the worst decision I've made in my entire life. He is so incompetent as a teacher he can't even get through notes with making mistakes, having STUDENTS correct him or going HUH. Get ready to get roasted in class and be told the material is "so easy". You will never understand whats he's saying. hello youtube goodbye life
He's never taught math104 and likes to remind you he hasn't, as if thats any excuse for his lack of understanding of math. your midterms will be harder than everyone else's and your self esteem will plummet. bring an eraser and whiteout to class because he never gets his notes right the first time. prepare to lose brain cells every class :(
The worst professor I have ever had. If I knew about his attitude and teaching style beforehand, I would have avoided this class at all costs. Waste of time and money, uncaring professor.
Great guy. Easiest class you will ever have. definitely take this course. He will explain everything so clearly, your mind will be blown. 11/10. All the other negative reviews are FAKE NEWS!
the WORST professor I ever met in here.
He uses the material from textbook publisher but the textbook is not useful anytime. He doesn't prepare the courses and HW, just copy slides and assignment.
He's kind of funny, although nothing great. The lectures closely follow his textbook, which is a good thing if you miss class (although the textbook is decent enough for you to self-study off anyway). I think he's a decent lecturer, although he's not for everyone.
Even though he repeats a lot from his notes, he writes them ahead of times, which is very helpful if you ever need to miss a lecture. He doesn't just read off his notes though--he gives extra details (although he can occasionally go off-topic). One thing I certainly appreciated was he asserted what we should not/don't need to do.
Uses his own lecture notes PDF, which is helpful for more focus with pre-reading, or if you miss class. Decent lecturer, he's efficient with his time, and is funny at times. Even with the PDF, going to lectures is worthwhile.
I would dread going to this class every morning. he vaguely teaches concepts, makes so many mistakes that students have to correct him, and is all over the place during lectures. i never understood what he was trying to explain. then when the class does bad on a test he acts like we're stupid. i have no idea how i got a B
Worst prof I had at my time in UBC. The amount of mistakes he makes during his lectures is unbelievable and gibberish he says is not understandable. After a month of going to his class I decided that it would be best to just skip it and learn the material on my own.
Though his lecture videos were on the longer side, I found his teaching style effective. He is good at explaining mathematical concepts and even stayed behind one day to re-explain a few things to me. I also appreciated his blunt and honest nature; it made the course more bearable.
With all due respect, reading his papers made me think hes a great mathematical biologist. Sadly, I dont think his knowledge translates well to his teaching skills. Its very easy for students to lose a sense of whats going on when hes teaching. Youre much better off learning from Youtube.
Immediately no. Never take this course.
He is the worst prof I've ever had. He doesn't care about students and the course set up is unbelievably disorganized. We have a lot of HW which we must do b/c they are the only practice we get, but, they don't count toward the grade. Our MT1 was done on webwork and the average was about 50%. Think before taking his course.
Teach concepts clearly, notes is slightly disorganized but contain lots of examples (good for homework and exam). Teach a LOT of useful tricks to help you do well and save time, as the midterms on this course is speed-based (easy questions, not enough time). Accessible and helpful outside of class, can be a bit blunt sometimes. Good at explaining.
Boring and doesn’t care about teaching at all
Slightly egotistic and says "oh its easy" and rushes through all the explanations. In a first year course, this is the last thing you need. If you get this prof, I either recommend dropping the course of going to a different class. Extra help from him is also a bit hard to stand because he has no patience for a confused student.
Does not care about understanding as much as getting through the material and ending early often over reinforcing topics.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. The entire course is solely based on tests with almost no option for part marks. Almost everyone failed the first midterm and the professors do not seem to care whatsoever.
"But anyways" "It's a piece of cake" I went to his lecture every class, and I almost fail the course. I got 92% for math 101. His class is so boring and he hardly explained anything during the class. His notes are kinda useful but require a lot of memory.
My original prof for 152 was terrible so I started watching Dr. Li's recorded lectures. Dr. Li is a legend. His notes are fantastic, detailed, and have great practice problems. + he talks slow enough that you can watch his lecture recordings on 2x speed. He was always a week ahead of schedule which made it easier to complete the webworks on time.
Rushed through ideas that he thought were easy despite students voicing their confusion. Was the course coordinator for most of the course and it was the worst run course. They made us watch recorded videos by different professors each week. They eventually brought back in-person class and CHANGED THE COURSE COORDINATOR because it was so bad.
Do not allow us to use formula sheets so that we need to memorize things like trig identity while we are having a hard time understanding and digesting the heavy concept taught by this course. Hope the students' feeling can be considered in the future course
I don't think this even needs further explanations...
Terribly run course
This course was very poorly run. As for asking for help, the professor expects you to know everything and has very little patience for people who do not understand concepts which made it very difficult to ask for help as there were a few times when he was almost yelling and throwing his arms up when students didn't understand his explanations.
This course was very poorly run. Unlike Math 102, the professors expect you to know everything.
Professor Li is nice, and clearly shows passion for math. However, he teaches as if you already know the content. His explanations are often very high level, and too fast for students to comprehend. He also teaches very very quickly, often overlooking important things (again assuming students already know).
math 103 was a disaster. Do not take it.
At the start he seemed very considerate to his students. That quickly changed when the semester progressed and he began to be quite impatient with us, and barely communicated with us outside of class. You may get away with the course if he's just your prof, but if hes the course coordinator I'd drop. He's so disorganized and literally can't do it.
If possible, don't take Math103. Class was extremely difficult compared to other integral math courses. The organization was a mess and extremely difficult to follow expectations.
I had to use so many external resources to try and pass this class. Lectures were useless with poor explanations of course content. A lot of the notes written on the board came with little context and the rest of the time was spent standing still reading directly off the notes. Almost my entire section went to other lectures.
Professor Li may have a specific teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. His detailed notes and helpful explanations, along with tools like unstuck AI, make this class manageable. Give it your full attention and you'll learn a lot.
He was an absolutely terrible prof, could barely understand what he said. The course is hard as is and already made it harder. Less than a month in I chose to go to Ben Bruce's lectures (which were at the same time) and it was the best choice I made.
Prof Yue-Xian Li is not only the worst teacher ive had so far in University but my whole life. Always unprepared, making way too many mistakes every class and during the tests aswell. There was Zero communication on canvas because all of his announcements he had been sending out, no one had received. Also bad at explaining, and hard to understand.
Prof Yue-Xian Li is the worst at explaining. It actually confuses you more than if you were to study by yourself. He does not show any steps in his lectures and his lectures are just all solving examples, with no actual teaching component.
Worst prof I've ever had in my 16 years of schooling, doesn't communicate anything, terrible lectures, doesn't know how to use canvas, does not provide feedback, avoid this guy at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE WITH THIS PROF. might aswell throw your tuition money down the drain. Honestly this guy should retire
I cant even begin to express just how bad this prof was. I wish I could go lower than 1 for the rating. he deserved to be fired immediately. Normally I do not post on these sort of platforms but I felt it was my duty to warn people to not take this prof. seriously, do not do it its 100 times worse than you can imagine
If you have this prof, either drop immediately or pick a god and start praying.
No need to pray. Even god cant save you from how bad he teaches
these good reviews must be his alt account lmao
You are on your own.
this man cannot teach
If you take Math 221 with this prof. may god help you. He consistently makes mistakes during lectures, is unorganized, and has bare-bones lecture notes that don't really build any intuition. The only reason I'd give him 2 is because his attempts to teach a topic he is passionate about are endearing.
only take this prof if you like suffering every day. With other teacher would probably be fine as material is not too bad
Horrible professor. Does not teach at all, everyone from my section either did not attend or instead went to the other section. Zero help at all on piazza and no communication, didnt even have announcements working until months into the course. Avoid.
Don't like this prof all all.
Spent probably 15 mins of our midterm up trying to explain a huge mistake on the test. So far there has been issues on both midterms cause by him. Everything is a disasterclass with this prof
Fire this dude. Absolutely embarrassing for this school.
I cannot believe UBC employs people like this. would not be competent teaching kindergarden
guy is so unreal
why does he always mention how chinese students are smarter than non chinese students? seems unnecessary to basically call us dumb
absolute joke of a person and a teacher
Bros goal is to confuse us
this dude is the worst human being (not just teacher) i have every come across in my life. i have never been treated worse. asking him a simple question after class made him rage at me in chinese for no reason.
Nothing else but to laugh when taking this course. what a joke.
horrible is a understatement
Class was poorly organized, the instruction was unclear, half of the class time was spent fixing the projector, and the remaining time was spent talking about how easy the content is for him. The midterm exam also contained several errors. Good luck if u have him.
absolute horrid
what a disgrace to art teaching.
genuinely cannot find a single good quality about this teacher. bad with tech, extremely horrible at teaching (makes you more confused), dosn't answer piazza AT ALL, zero communication with class, late to class. Such a absolute horrible teacher. my second grade teacher would do a better job and i'm not even joking.
Hes is not very tech savvy and hinders engaging study. Over the course of the term the lectures AND the tests were ridden with technical difficulties (confusing typos, wasting 15 minutes explaining how test question is wrong) and during lectures we use projector to paper and so its always out of frame. Does not prep or check test questions.
For half the term he did not make any anouncements. For the entire term he neglected piazza. Should speak for itself since many students are left confused after lectures and during assignments but get no help. During tests the paper itself was not checked for errors, typos and even impossible to solve questions.
Professor has no empathy or care for students especially if you are not chinese. I had to miss class for a week and every other course had let me be excused under compassion grounds. He simply replied no. He does not care for our grades either and is VERY confusing in lecture because he keeps backtracking on his mistakes.
Spent last few lectures teaching an optional, not tested topic instead of reviewing past chapters to prepare students for the exam.
believe it or not what all the other 1 star reviews are saying are 100 percent true. absolutely unbelievable professor in the worst way possible. all I can say is he is worse than horrible
Bro purposely didnt post SEI surveys cause he knew he would be borderline fire lmaoooo.
Literally nothing good to say about this prof. Half the class is spent fixing the projector, lectures are copied off his notes word for word, heavy accent, borderline racist to non-Chinese people, cannot answer student questions properly, ignores piazza and emails, makes typos on midterms. Pick a god and start praying if you have him.
For Chinese student,he even did same,I was sick and unable to attend last lecture. When I asked on piazza,he only said you should have come to class? What is he thinking, like dragging my sick body to class, increase the risk of others infection? He destroys some my passion in linear algebra BTW how do you get grades?we didn't finish finals yet
Horrible. Can anyone please start a petition to get him fired? genuinely think over 200 people would sign
He is very bad at designing test questions given the time limit and constraints students have, to pair with that his lectures are very hard to follow along. He speaks to himself alot and has many mistakes during the lecture. The cherry on top is during this term both his tests had errors in the questions that made it impossible to solve.
He is an awesome professor! He loves to tell us how easy this course is for HIM in class, while simultaneously making mistakes and needing to refer to his own notes in class! BTW, he just repeats what the notes say and adds more confusion to it. Overall amazing prof, I would take him again if I ever needed to stress myself for no reason.
If you are reading this, then it has not yet been deleted. I can vouch for every single 1 star review for his MATH 221 class. I had to start attending the other section just to survive. Try coming back to see if he deleted all the horrible reviews of himself in this website.
This professor is just amazing at cleaning his image! A few days ago while I was in his last lecture (spent on useless topics and not reviewing) scrolling through the ratings, there were many 5-7 likes negative ratings. To my surprise today they are nowhere to be found! What an absolute gentleman.
Just wait until he clicks "I'm Professor Li" and scrape all these bad reviews of himself.
I just dont get why he has to be so rude for. Also always blaming the students for HIS mistakes. Sometimes in class he dosnt even solve problems because "we should already know how to do it"
SOMEONE PLEASE START A PETITION TO REMOVE THIS PROF. POST ON REDDIT OR DO WHATEVER NEEDED. BAD TEACHING, RACIST, NO COMMUNICTION, NO PIAZZA RESPONSE. NOT A SINGLE GOOD THING ABOUT HIM
I've never had relatively simple content be this confusing. I did better when I just gave up and learned it on my own.
Is it his goal to try and make the content more confusing than it is?
This is my first time using RateMyProf. I created an account just so I can remark how awful this professor is. His lectures are worse than useless; they are actively detrimental to learning.
i mean.... he is just the worst in every way possible. genuinely nothing good about him. also he keeps deleting these bad reviews but all of them are 100 percent true even though they may seem extreme
Here are some my favourite Prof. Yue Xuan Li quotes: "I mean you should already know how to do it" "This is really easy, for me" "I made a mistake here but I wont fix it you guys get it anyway" "See now with this it is really simple" "Alright everyone so there is a mistake in the exam question" "If you dont understand just read it again"
Guys search Professor Dave on youtube he explains all the concepts of Matrix algebra for free
audible sighs and gossip as students leave mid lecture. i myself gave his lectures another chance after trying to do a generational lock in but boy he made it worse. cant even focus when people around me are pointing out his mistakes and NOT MOVING THE PROJECTOR all the time
skip all lectures and chug monster a day before the exam. would be a better experience than having 100% attendance on his white noise background sound lecturing style
Absolutely disgusting person.
nothing to do but LOL when thinking about him lmao.
Worst teacher ive had in my whole life. not only on one category but literally everything. also a pretty rude person who will straight up act like your not there even if you ask a question.
literally less than 24 hours from the exam and this prof has not released any announcements of seats. other section has already received follow up information since yesterday. how lazy
If you enjoy self-studying with ChatGPT, you should take this course. By the end of the semester, you will learn how to use ChatGPT better and fail the course. If you want to lower your friend's GPA, this professor might be your best suggestion.
Dr. Li comes to class just to read his notes, doesn't give much info outside of what he had written. He doesn't really explain his solutions, and usually doesn't explain any idea from a previous week, saying “You should know that by now”. Continuously reminisces on how students in china would do a certain thing much more quickly for some reason
If he's teaching your section, RUN, and DROP the course or switch sections for the sake of your gpa. All the reviews here are accurate. The only useful thing he provided that I don't see it being mentioned is the lecture notes, though I really doubt that he wrote thing because he's incompetent. The final was fill with 67s.
I spent more money on a tutor than the actual course. Lectures were an abomination. Dr. Li just read the notes that the other instructor had written for his section. He made countless mistakes, didn't know how to use the projector, and pretended to not see hands up. He capped off term by saying 'i never want to teach this course again.' AWFUL.
This prof played with his projector for the whole semester. I totally could not understand what he is saying in class. He loved to say the question “is a piece of cake.”
I might seem absolutely ludicrous to see 50+ consecutive 1/5 reviews during a single semester with a single section. However it is entirely accurate and honestly deserved. YXL's lectures made me actively more confused about the content. More concerning is that he actively did not care about his students success, he genuinely couldn't care less.
If your reading this, ALL the other 1 star reviews may seem extreme but I swear on my life they are all true and honestly are probably making him seem better than he actually is. He will be worse than whatever you think is possible
Yikes. Tried to attend lectures for a while but almost fell asleep half the time, unless he was failing to fix the projector, that was pretty funny.
Kafkaesque experience. Lectures have negative educational value. He puts unsolvable questions in exams. He only likes his Chinese students. He forgot he had an attendance policy. He cannot use canvas or piazza. He is unreachable outside of office hours. He rages at people for asking questions at office hours. Has a very nice collection of hats.
The other reviews are true. Mistakes were made on both midterms that made the questions impossible to answer. Students with the CFA were not told and so if they knew something was wrong and didn't attempt to answer it they got no marks. We had to use the other section's Piazza to get any responses. Important info was posted last second on Canvas.
Yo trust me, you might be reading these other 1 star reviews thinking "it can't be that bad, they probably just didn't try hard enough". DO NOT MAKE THAT MISTAKE. I don't know how this guy is even allowed to teach. His lectures make no sense, I had to self-learn the content online. He seems like he hates his students. IF YOU GET HIS CLASS DROP IT!!
literally avoid at all costs. hes not going to see this or care bc the dude does not give a shit about teaching, if hes teaching a required course just enroll and go to the other section.
lmao lmao lmao lmao
Very poorly organized lectures and course due to lack of course coordinator. Class moved very quickly in first few weeks, and then fell behind afterward. Classes took longer than Cautis's lectures, but taught less. Prof makes key mistakes but does not catch them.
Lectures focus more on calculations than formal proofs, which I like as I hated hated proofs. The final was not written by him and included proofs, which may put his students at a disadvantage. But overall, my experience wasn't very negative, and I'd probably take him again if he has more power in exam making.
It was so bad that I had to request a late withdrawal.
When I tell you this guy was bad, let me paint you a picture. I went to the first lecture, saw how bad it was, left in the middle, never come to lecture again and taught myself everything from the textbook. DO NOT take this class with him, you will regret it.
I was in his section this term, but only because I had no choice. The only other section conflicted with another required course. After MT1, I stopped going to Yue-xian's lectures entirely and started attending the other section instead, even though it meant watching recordings for my other class. Yes, he is that bad. He should not be teaching.
this dude has to stop deleting these bad reviews. the world needs to know the truth
I knew the first 2 units but achieved negative learning after going to lectures. Go to ANYONE ELSE if you value math or your grade or your life. I attended the other prof's section (10/10 would recommend) and never looked back :). Also the only prof that ever put me to sleep. The only thing keeping me awake was laughing at the inverted projector :D
