Nice lady. But perhaps it's the large class size as opposed to her actual teaching style, I found the classes were not helpful, I learned better using other resources. While Dr. Carpenter is a very nice person, I found that she oversimplified her lectures. You would walk away from the lectures feeling happy and confident about the information given, but then bomb the exams. They are deceptively difficult, even if you commit 20+ hours of QUALITY studying and practice. I learned everything from the textbook.

Lectures are pointless to go to. She isn't very clear about terms and concepts or what will be expected on tests from her lectures. Was taught more in tutorial than in lectures. Dr. Carpenter gives good feedback and help in tutorials, but as far as practice midterms and finals go, she uses useless annotations to try and guide you in the right direction, and does not tell you the process in which the solution is actually found. I personally think she's a great prof, her marking is tough, but fair. The tophat in class is really helpful and she explains it well. If you're unclear with anything from the lecture, lab or tutorials, she does a really good job explaining during her office hours, which are very accessible so definitely utilize them.
