Loved this teacher! Teaches w/ Socratic method; she makes students explain the science to her. Not an academic lecturer (sometimes this is frustrating, but has good side). Professor Ling is one of the most admirable people I know. The test are very tricky, but if you read and review you should do fine. Takaki, the text, is one of the most interesting texts I have read. Its not that she doesn't answer student's questions, its that she expects you to think and use all the information she has already presented to you. She is the man when you talking about history. Her greatest strength is teaching history and teaching how to study history. She doesn't make you remember worthless date and timeline BS. She's very different from other history teacher. Not exactly easy but everyone had her before would agree she's very very fair. Her english is superb and clear.

Ok so I hated geology but once i took her i am seriously thinking about gettting more geology classes. She is an amazing teacher and person. I am so glad i took her class. The material was interesting and she knows how to teach. She cares about the students and her life lessons are so true. I REALLY RECOMMMEND HER!!!!!!!!!

She is a bad teacher for a very simple reason: she lets her emotions and bias get in the way of teaching. She refused to admit one of the ammendments in the Constitution was valid because she simply doesn't like it. A history teacher needs to teach facts, not opinions. The class would be more enjoyable if she were not so zealous in her opinions.

This is the second time I've had Professor Ling and she never fails to impress me. Yes, she does give her opinions on many subjects but she also tells you the real truth behind many controversial issues-she really makes you think and that is very noble thing. You don't even have to read the book just re-read your notes a few times before the test.

I went on the geology trips to the Salton Sea and Mojove Desert. Ling is a ball of sunshine! We learned everything from what creates volcanos to ethnic dances! I wouldn't sign up for this lab if you hate hiking and/or are out of shape. Some of them require you to hike 10 miles and sqeeze through tiny areas in between rocks. But they sure are fun!

her class is pretty easy if you read but i had my focus on other classes so i never read and winged all her tests. i mainly put my weight on the essay part of the tests because she gives you the prompt ahead of time and allows you to write a draft and have her check it. tests are hard. all m/c part is which one of these are FALSE. a b c d e

Good professor.Has lots of opinions.Read the book and study hard because her tests are NOT easy,kind of tricky actually.Getting an A requires work,you have to read the chapters thouroughly.She could be a little easier,but she makes history so interesting.Exams are 50% essay,gives you essay prompt a week before tests,so outline your response well.

This teacher is amazing. She changes your views and makes things clear, and gives you emotional attachment to what you are learning, hence, you wont forget any of it. She is passionate about what shes teaching and that makes you passionate. TAKE HER

She's really good! I never liked History class but she made it fun to learn. Her exams are pretty tricky esp the multiple choice but the essay part's not that hard, just make sure u expressed your opinions well & you've used a lot terms from the lecture. Prof. Ling is amazing and doesn't create a typical cookie cutter classroom experience. She shares information, gives you the tools for you to access more information on your own in order for you to examine all the evidence and USE YOUR BRAIN... instead of being spoon feed. Take her class, participate and walk in with an open scientific mind.

The best teacher at PCC, EVAR!! with and A!! thats how epicly awesome she is. Her class is very hard though, but i mean its history what do you expect? Still she makes it fun, exiting, and helps show the truth behind what is in our textbooks. I loved her the entire class and wished i could take more of her classes. If i wasn't transferring i would.

Prefers the hands-on approach and wants students to learn for themselves rather view them as empty vessels to be filled. Very knowledgable, intelligent, and passionate. A little radical but for good reasons. I learned a lot and was inspired by her stance in environmentalism, recommended!

very nice teacher, and the class is very interesting. she definitely gives you the kind of info you don't normally learn about. The tests are hard because "which statement is false" is pretty much the hardest questions to answer, and that's all there is + an essay. But overall it was a fun class and I'd def recommend it!

Class was interesting & fun. You will find the class easier if you have taken other Hist classes but an A is within reach for everyone. As for Susie she has a great sense of humor (lively lectures) but goes extra mile to make sure you learn (history, social issues etc). Offers great independent study programs. Not difficult or easy. She's fair.

Ling is so cool. Like she's really chill about attendance, missing works [you have until the end of the semester to make it up], quizzes, etc. Like I love everything about her class. She makes the class really fun and you actually learn something from it. I would take her again if she teaches other classes.

Ling was great! I learned so much from her that I can take with me into my everyday life. She was helpful and nice and the movies and videos we saw were truly helpful and relevant. She was understanding if you needed to miss class or came late. She tried to make class fun. But stressed the importance of activism and educating oneself.

BLOWN AWAY! Never have I had a professor that pushes you to think beyond comprehension. She really gets in depth with modern times and relates it to the subject at hand. Her knowledge will engulf you! Her background of geology insights you a lot about the structures and layers from the earth to your brain. If you want to be challenged, take her!

AMAZING BEYOND WORDS, I have never had a teacher change me and my perspective this way. She is beyond incredible, she does not care about grades and tests, she instead wants you to understand and see things differently. She gave an A to everyone on their projects so no one had to worry about their grades. She changed me as a person. TAKE HER!!

Ling is an amazing professor! I recommend Environmental Studies 1 to everyone. In this class I not only gained units but a great life experience.

Susie is very dedicated to her job. Assignments and exams are always quickly graded. Her lectures are easy to understand. While her exams are tricky, they are fairly graded. Reading the textbook is a must if you want an A. She uses quizes to make sure everybody attends class.

I am rating her right now for all of yall looking for classes. It is the right thing to do, because I know a lot of PCC students uses this website. Ms.Ling is an excellent teacher at giving lectures. Just focus and listen to all her lectures and you'll know the materials for quizzes and exams. You'll need text books, and reading them is beneficial.

I'm happy I took Professor Ling's course this semester. She's a great lecturer. It was always a pleasure to attend her class as lectures were always intelligent and thorough. Ling is such a sweetheart. She's so energetic and passionate about the subject. She's not afraid to shy away from controversial topics and knows how to keep a class entertained with such charisma. Her grading system is unique and it allows opportunity for a better grade. No real HW and exams can be a difficult but overall she's highly recommended.

She is the best professor I have ever taken at PCC. The class can actually be instantly applied to our everyday lives. I loved this class. IT was AMAZING. Everyday was interesting. There was never a dull day. She lectures that shows video clips. Very effective teacher. She cried on our last day of class. That is how good this class was. TAKE HER!!!

She's very passionate about the subject and very knowledgable. Take good notes and listen and you'll get an A. She gives and open notecard midterm and final and there is a group portion of the tests. Plus you'll learn a lot.

Somehow I took Environmental Science at Pasadena and my life is turned around. I am changing my major from Art to Env Engineering to help our environment. Thank you Ling O'Connor for opening my eyes. The only thing I didn't like about class was the sorry students who can't think critically to save their lives. Get it together future youth.

She is the best Hist prof, she is funny, honest, and kind. She provides so much helpful material like entire outlines to her lectures. She tries hard to be as transparent as possible so there are no surprises. Her test can be hard but with all the help she provides they are bearable. She is a must to take!

I really enjoyed this class. I thought the lectures were always interesting and I always enjoyed coming to class because of them. The tests are somewhat easy as long as you pay attention in class, and read the book. Also, make sure to do the extra credit offered, it will make a difference. Had a great time in class and I learned a lot.

I took this class last semester and I must say that she is very passionate about history it's scary. O_O She is so energetic when it comes to talking about the different generations of Japanese heritage.

Professor Ling is extremely knowledgeable on almost every subject and excels in her passion for history. If you want to feel engaged and actually learn something, take her 7B class. It won't be easy, but you'll enjoy it and won't feel like you wasted your time.

She's nice and very serious about her lectures. She will randomly through out pop quizzes based on recent events and also about her lectures. She'll also randomly treat the classes with Chinese treats. She is definitely friendly but she'll show her true side during office hours depending what kind of student you are she can be mean.

The only thing I hated about the class was one of my group members who ditched us and then stole my material and took credit. Be assertive with these kind of people! Ling has taught me what textbooks can't and I'm glad I took her class! I'm now ready to be an environmental engineer! If you have a hard time changing for the good, just drop out.

Mrs. Ling is a great American History teacher even though that she's Chinese. She is still not very easy because you have to have a good writing skill to pass her because she gives out writing assignments to do in class like the essay exam even though American History is easy.

Best professor I've ever had, hands down. She expects you to work but rewards your efforts generously. Don't expect to BS her, show up ready to use your brain. Would recommend to anybody who needs to clear their science requirement.

I love her for her intelligence and the way that she explains things in her lectures, BUT this is the hardest class I have ever taken. Her final is CUMULATIVE AND COVERS 670 PAGES OF BOOK!!!!!!!! You HAVE to read in order to pass her tests. Her tests are 5 options and you have to pick which one is FALSE. Get ready to buckle down. This is so hard.

Asks hard questions on the tests & grades easily. The majority of classes are lectures. She is very passionate about history and has fun teaching it. she is a lot of fun to learn from. You absolutely must READ THE BOOK!!! also do NOT be late to class because the quizzes are taken first thing and you will miss it. Also, you can only get 6 points EC.

If you score 66%+ it is a B, 86%+ is an A; however, her exams are very tough but still with her E.C. you will get a B for sure. What I don't like in her is that she doesn't bring evidences with what she talks and if she does, she brings bad sources. She believes what people say and doesn't do the right research. Don't believe most of her words.

Make sure you read your textbook and don't be absent for any of her classes. She gives extra credit. Her exams are multiple choice, but they are difficult. Besides the multiple choice, she also adds essays as part of the exam. Her class is interesting and the professor is passionate & knowledgeable about history.

I loved professor Ling. She is inspirational and very intelligent yet humble woman. Her passion for environment is contagious. I honestly did not care much about environmental stuff but she opened my eyes and challenged me to understand complex problems in the world. Lots of group lab activities, her lectures are amazing and videos are very good.

It's an easy class. Most everything is done online. Daily quizzes and group labs. We watch a lot of videos in this class. The only thing that I did not like was the lack of structure. When midterms and finals came, it's really hard to know what to study. You NEED to find a good group for the group labs, or your grade will suffer.

As someone who never was a big fan of history, I enjoyed every class. Her tests are made up of a multiple choice and essay session. She does the multple choice a little differently, she makes you choose the false answer instead of the correct one. Also her textbook is Free! its an online textbook. Nice grading scale: 66-84B, 85+A. Very nice Prof.

If Environmental is your major, take this class with another professor. We mostly focused on other stuff like nutrition, and other topics but not necessarily environmental . Everything was eye opening, and life changing though. No hw, no book, only two tests, several quizzes, and online labs. This class was truly amazing and inspirational.

There's a test basically every class. The lectures are very long and very boring. Some of the stuff you learn is pretty cool and other stuff is shocking. She did make some stuff up. She sometimes talked about stuff that happened and I would fact check it later and she was lying. Very easy A, not a lot of work.

Teaches material objectively and will offer own evaluation of material. Class stresses writing; parallel to thinking. Whatever you write, be it against or supporting her views, provide facts to support your argument and make sure your own conclusions and evaluations are logical. Quizzes test if the class is doing the reading and paying attention.

She's a great, humble professor that really opens your eyes and leaves you questioning everything you've been taught thus far in regards to the environment, products we use,food we eat, etc. I recommend this class. No book required, she will add you to class, no HW, lots of interesting lectures. Some resources were dated, but very still relevant.

Ms. Ling is amazing, she is a very clear lecturer and very explicit about what will be on exams. Her test formats can be difficult for some but are relatively short. No homework except for readings, and two straightforward projects. You can tell she loves what she teaches. I really enjoyed her class and learn so much about California.

Dreaded this class but she made me love history after the semester was over. She has been teaching for 30+ years and her lectures are perfected to keep you interested. Her tests are fairly difficult but what you actually learn from the class is more valuable. An extremely kind and respectful prof. who is a model American citizen and best professor.

Some students don't like her because she emphasizes personal responsibility in relationship to the environment. The class is basically YOU are the problem and how YOU can fix it. One of the most important classes that I've ever taken. Take her and change your life (and the world's) for the better!

Professor Ling is such an amazing teacher I enjoyed her class very much. But, beware that this is possibly one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. You really have to study and read the book.

Ling emphasizes on the changes of the environment. Instead of the classic text book lectures, she gives insight and eye open truth and facts to the people in her class. She is very passionate and loving, and it is because she cares it may appear as if she is harsh, take her, your life will never be the same.

She is an absolutely amazing professor! She does not teach methodology or theory or practicality, but instead, teaches the reality of the world in which we live in. She is capable of opening up the eyes of so many of her students to what is, and to what we choose to turn away from. Class way, no book necessary, group participation necessary.

It would be good for you to know the basic's of history before you go in, also make sure you read the book and come to class everyday. Great teacher, she really cares about you and if youre understanding or not. You will have to learn how to remember and write like a professional. She doesn't have a regular college grading scale and that's dope.

Professor Ling is great! I took her History 2B class in the Winter and did well. It involved lots of handouts, a handful of critical thinking essays, and a mini quiz almost every day. She's very knowledgeable -- I do wish I'd taken a Spring/Fall course instead because it was very condensed. Highly recommend recording audio to listen to later on!

Prof. Ling delivers good lectures and very useful info. I was so inspired taking history 2B. She gives me a whole different perspective when looking at history and future. It's a easy class as long as you read and think.

Incredibly inspirational, eye opening. You'll learn your part in the destruction of the world and how you can change. It's an easy A, but is a very engaging class. Hopefully, it will teach you to learn rather than be on autopilot. If you have bad social anxiety though I wouldn't take it. She might call you out for seeming unengaged.

Dr. Ling is an absolute gem. Grades based on attendance quizzes, in-class labs, and 2 exams. 1 term project and 1 one-page paper (double-spaced). She doesn't make it a hostile environment, it may seem that way if your on your phone during a lecture, but i mean DUH. Very eye opening class, some awkward silences but take it to absorb the information

She is amazing and made learning history easy. Her lectures are basically her exams. She even makes a study guide for the class and outline of the book. There is a paper and a group project. She is always available during office hours. Also funny.

Prof Ling not only is unbelievably kind but clearly passionate about teaching history. She offers plenty of extra credit which if I took advantage of would have earned me an A. Despite making her political standpoints very clear she is open minded and fair to those with more right leaning views. Take her class you will not be disappointed.

I took her class spring'17, she was such an inspirational teacher and she helps us to develop our understanding on the environment. This class is worth taking as it gives you so many useful information that you can actually apply to daily life. Most of the work is group work, no homework class, and only 2 exams.

class is a midterm/ final (30% each) and a ton of quizzes and assignments everyday. she basically gives you the answers and everything is in groups. if you miss class you get a 0 for the day so dont miss. she is very passionate about the topic so lectures can be somewhat manipulating and biased but is a good professor and cares about her students

She's so enthusiastic and insightful about U.S History. Her class isn't hard if you read the textbook, listen to lectures, have learned this back in high school, and if you have solid essay writing essay skills. If you have these, then I guarantee you'll pass the class. She does however (unintentionally?) dismiss other opinions in a curt manner.

Ling is by far the best professor Ive had the honor of meeting at PCC. She is a talented professor, and authentically kind and relevant. The material I learned in her class will stick with me for the rest of my life, as it is not often covered in typical ES classes. We learn about the truth of the world we live in and food we eat. Lots of pop quizzes during the beginning of class that count toward your final grade. If you're not there on time, you're most likely, gonna get a zero. Grade is also dependent on lots of group projects throughout the semester. She might call on you randomly to answer questions. Overall, you should get a good grade as long as you attend every class

Prof. Ling is an incredibly nice, sweet, and kind person. However, let's face it, you're not going to enroll in this class b/c of her caring personality. Here's the breakdown: 9 *POP* quizzes, 2 multiple choice exams, 4 essay exams, and 1 map exam. Her class, by no means, is an "easy A." 100-86(A), 85-66(B), 65-50(C) etc. Absurdly difficult.

Professor Lings class wasnt an easy A, but it was a really fun class and I learned a lot! Her class is all lecture, and there are 3 exams, 9 mini quizzes and LOTS of extra credit opportunities (albeit you have to go somewhere for them). Her A is 86% and above but those mini quizzes can kill your grade if youre not careful. But I loved the class!

Prof. Ling is a sweet lady, but this course had no business being as difficult as it was. As other reviewers have noted -- she does grade on a curve, so passing the class shouldn't be much of a problem. HOWEVER, she does NOT give partial credit on the 9pop quizzes. Each pop quiz is a minimum of 5 Q's and if you get one wrong, your quiz is voided.

Professor Ling is great. Shes straight forward and very honest. She makes lecture interesting because she loves history. I dont see how you could fail this class if you actually try. She gives opportunities for extra credit and is available for office hours. One of the best professors at PCC.

Ling is a solid professor if you want to learn about the subject. She gives insight on historical figures and tells you what you need to know. However, with the workload, she does make you work for the grade you want. She wants college-level writing on her essays as well as a transparent understanding of the material.

She is one of the best history professors. She explained her job is to make us critically think and that is exactly what you do. Her grading scale is very easy, Test are multiple choice including an essay prompt. Should study for essay portions. Took her in fall 2018. Professor Ling is a very patriotic person and being the Veteran that I am I loved the passion she shows to teach History. Her passion was strong that I looked forward going to her class everyday to learn something new. Reading: you'll read alot Notes: be ready to take lots of notes & notes of your own readings.

She was excellent. History really comes alive. In high school the gilded era put me to sleep but was my favorite part of her class. She is one of the best history professors and all mine have been amazing. 2 test m/c and an essay plus a final. She gives mini quizzes but they are easy and should help your grade.

She's a nice person and very passionate about history but her class is extremely hard. It's extremely hard to earn an A but easy to earn a B (85-66%!) It's the hardest class I've taken in my life (no joke). I tried super hard while some others who don't still gets the same grade as me since 66% in her class is still a B! Rip my 4.0.

I cant say how amazing Ling truly is. Hands down my favorite professor so far. She is kind and compassionate. She will open your eyes about a lot of issues going on in the world and how they all interact with each other.

Professor Ling encourages us to use ratemyprofessor so here I am! This class drained me but also made me much more knowledgable about history and life in general. She truly embodies what it means to be a teacher and inspires us to be more critical, big picture thinkers. Lecture was always interesting and easy to follow. Tests are hard af so study.

I really loved Ling! She does make a very serious point about the impact we have on the world and a lot of people feel that she's too negative but I see it in the complete opposite way. She cares so much about everyone in her class and it shows. I would recommend her class if you're ready to challenge your ego.

Ling is obviously passionate about the environment and about changing the system of our current society to benefit the whole biotic community. Throughout her 16 week course she guides your through many different subjects pertaining to environmentalism and leads you to an ecocentric conclusion. Some of the structure and quizes can be confusing.

Easy B but you are going to haver to work hard for an A. Writing heavy class but if you ask her to do zoom, she will pretty much plan your whole outline.

Ms. Ling is an excellent Professor. I will say there is a lot of work but that is to be expected when you are taking a lab. However the work is extremely easy and her test are not hard. If you care for the environment and want to learn more about how you can help impact the environment take Ms. Ling class. Extremely easy A.

Ling is very passionate about the environment and that is reflected in her course. I definitely recommend this class to those who are open-minded as well as interested in sustainability. There was A LOT of homework, but Ling always made it interesting. You will definitely learn from taking this course.

Nice professor, but lots of works to do. Multiple opportunities to take quiz and interesting lectures! You can get an A if you do all the works and put efforts on it.

Do not be scared away! Ling is a great option for a GE science w/ no math. There are a lot of assignments but they are VERY SIMPLE i.e. watch and video and answer questions, read an online article do a short quiz on the article, etc. It is very easy to get an A in this class if you do all the assignments on time and put in effort.

Very nice professor, lots of assignments but they are all easy. Requires group work remotely but makes it very easy to do. Easy class in terms of content but LOTS of assignments. Great GE option that will really be applicable to day to day life.

This is the best class I have ever taken. There are many assignments, but they are very easy as well as intriguing--you will never be bored. If you take this class, enter with an open mind. There might be things that you strongly agree/ disagree with, but that's just part of learning. Take this class. I promise you will be better for it.

DO HW, and take notes and I PROMISE you will pass with an A. She is very kind and is by far one of my fav professors at PCC. She grades u on completion, and gives u unlimited attempts for quizzes. Great professor! A lot of the reviews say that she assigns a lot of homework, but her assignments are easy, very manageable and quick. You can really learn a lot in her class if you open yourself to.

She's an incredibly passionate teacher when it comes to the subject she's teaching. However, at times instructions/questions are unclear. If you ask for clarifiation, she will provide it, but sometimes that doesn't help much. Relatively easy class. Lots of videos. I recommend taking notes for in class discussions.

The professor is clearly very passionate about the environment, and her enthusiasm made the class engaging. However, much of her grading felt subjective, based more on whether she agreed with our interpretation than whether we actually answered the question correctly. The modules were insanely long

Not too much homework. She is very passionate about the environment it is inspiring and I look up to her. There is no clear class plans though, no guided notes or slides. She is the most healthy organic person I've ever met. Topics are interesting but kind of depressing and emotional. Her grading is weird and particular though. But overall good:)

Absolutely amazing professor. Recommend taking this class not only for gen credit, but also to just learn more about our environment, our habits, and where things actually come from. Tough grader, but participating helped me a lot. Love ling, she truly cares for her students. Might be a little hangry sometimes tho bc she fasts for multiple days.
