she's an average professor. there are some better ones, there are some worse ones. I would only recommend her IF you want a challenge. and at least for our class, she was very helpful.

Mrs. McKinney was one of my favorite Professors, and this is my last semester. The course was also one of my top favorites. She is strict, but like in any class DO THE WORK-4 papers, and group pres. We read two novels, few short stories, a SHORT play and watched two movies. She's hilarious with her faces she makes. By the way...no she's not Irish.

Prof Mckinney is very interesting. if you cannot take a joke or lack a sense of humor avoid her classes. she can always bring a smile and is helpful in and out of class. she genuinely cares for her students and is very respectful. not a "bird-course" teacher but not too difficult either.

Take her! Really Good Teacher, never boring!! Pleasant, polite, funny person. Sometimes teases but is NEVER mean spirited. Clear Syllabus. Follow it. She checks once in a while to see if you did the work. Besides, you need to do the reading and the short writing assignments to make the papers easier and you'll find out what you need help with.

This class was extremely challenging, but she gives you all the tools you need to do well. She will help you, but you have to come to her. She is funny, and compassionate. She is a fantastic person and a really great teacher.

She is an AWESOME teacher. The class seemed hard in the beginning, but it really is not if you keep up with the reading and assignments. Her demands are very clearly written and explained in the syllabus, and she doesn't get behind it too much. She grades tough, but fairly. I loved her. I would take every class with her if possible.

Professor McKinney is one of the nicest women ever. I thoroughly enjoy her class. If you don't like her it is because you came to class unprepared or are not paying attention!! She is more than willing to help anyone out and understands that crap happens. I deffinatly recomend her class!

She is an entertaining teacher but it's not all about fun. She grades tough on papers and gives quizzes with questions MEANT to trick you into answering them wrong. Must do the assigned reading or you WILL fail. Questions in quizzes are about readings, but also about author name, dates, names in readings, subtexts, syllabus, etc. Very tricky!

Yulanda is fun and she tries to keep her class interesting. Very strict about assignments and guidelines. Gives a lot of feedback on papers. Workload is a little high but she gives you plenty of time and help.

I think the thing that I appreciate most about this professor is her willingness to hear opinions and views that differ from her own. While she is up front with her own beliefs and ways of looking at the world around her, she encourages her students to find their own voice.

One of the best professor I've ever had, hands down! Her classes are interesting and you just can't help but want to go. As long as you do your work, you'll be all set. I wish I could fit it into my schedule to take another one of her classes. I recommend having her as a professor!

I recommend Prof. McKinney, she is fun, enlightened, helpful and funny. Throughout the course you may end up finding a deeper way to perceive, not just the text, but life itself. It is not a lecture setting more of a class participation with your own ideas.

Great class discussions that stimulate you to think for yourself. Very funny and energetic. I loved her enthusiasm on the subject and how she was willing to listen to and discuss other views. I liked doing the "fishbowl" discussions so the students could argue their views without her giving her opinion. Definitely recommend this class! :)

She is a very outgoing and funny professor but the class was rather hard considering it was only a 101 class. She was a hard grader and i struggled to get a B in the class when i really wanted an A and thought it would be a simple thing to recieve; but it wasn't. If you are a really good writer, i recommend her, if you aren't, take someone else!

I had Professor McKinney my first semester and boy was I glad I had such a great English professor. Without her as the professor I have no idea what I would've been able to do or how I would've made it through this course!

I had McKinney for Lit of the Black Experience. I must say, this is the hardest class I've taken, but in the end it was definitely worth it. I've increased my writing skills substantially and also realized personal things about myself. She doesn't take any BS but I adore her as a strong, Black woman. "You'll never find another Professor like her."

Professor McKinney is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She was always funny and pleasant in class. She is very helpful, and as long as you show that you care then she will show you she cares. She was very organized, and helped me alot to be a better writer. This class was hard at times. but Mrs. McKinney made it easy. She gives a ton of help, so if you don't pass it's your own fault, but over all she's hilarious and will make a ton of jokes, but don't take it personal.

Prof. McKinney is an amazing teacher. Yes she is a hard grader but that is because she is trying to make you a better student. If you don't understand something, she will gladly help you during her office hours. But you cant be afraid to speak up. Attend every class you can attend because that is important. I am in her class right now. She is an amazing professor, she doesn't tell you how to think she teaches you how to think. People say she gives a lot of homework, but 3 essays that is it for the entire semester. She walks you through every paper. Ya homework, but she doesn't check it. In her class it's really your choice if you pass or not. LOVE HER

Professor Mckinney is the most impactful professor I have had. She made class super fun to go to and I would take as many more classes I could with her. She really cares about her students, gives you multiple chances to earn the best grade you can, and is really funny. She connects what she teaches to real issues. Very inspirational very impactful

I had Prof. McKinney this semester and she was just awesome! Definitely a tough grader and she makes you work, but I've never written a better paper because of it. I'm taking her 216 class this semester. I highly recommend her.

Professor McKinney is amazing!! She was always willing to help if you are willing to put in the effort to try. She doesn't spoon feed you the answers, she makes you think and tell her what is correct. I recommend her to anyone who is taking English 101 because although she is tough on you she really cares.

Yulanda McKinney is likely the best English Professor that I've ever had. She's passionate, caring, funny and overall an awesome personality, and if you put in the work there is no way you will do poorly. I dare say you will walk away a much better writer! She's super funny and nice but she gets way off topic sometimes. But she does incorporate what's going on in the real world into our lectures. If you skip workshops, you will for sure have trouble writing the papers.

If you want to take any English class, I would highly recommend taking Professor McKinney's class. She is hilarious, intelligent, and super nice! Professor McKinney is very energetic and entertaining, that being said, she can be a bit much at times and may come off as intimidating to some. She helps guide you into becoming a critical thinker which means she doesn't always give direct answers. Overall she grades fairly and her class is enjoyable.

Professor McKinney's course is graded in majority by three different assignments as well as participation with some smaller assignments in between. Overall if you aren't going to be able to attend frequently her course might not be for you, but she does provide an excellent framework for essay writing that if followed will allow to succeed easily.

She is as real as a Professor gets. I personally choose to take her female literature and gender class as well. She is very thoughtful and full of positive energy. I feel if you had an issue with this professor it may have been because you were not ready for an independent straightforward woman. I fully appreciate and respect this professor.
