You will do fine in this class if you do the assigned homework problems. The conceptual questions are the one that will kill you which is about 1/4 - 1/3 in each exam. She moves very fast(maybe because i took this during the summer).
Its a required class and she is the only teacher so all finance majors will end up taking her. She is very unclear, rude and not helpful.
She is rude and goes to fast, very unclear. your on your own. Its a required class so you have to take her, she sucks and I really don't think she is hot either.
I disagree with the previous posts. She is clear and concise in her explanation. Yes she talks and writes fast but if you ask her to slow down, SHE WILL! The best finance professor in the dept. Why isn't she the Dean?? Do the homework problems. They will come out for the exam. No tricks. Very straighforward.
She is not clear and not helpful, overall this class was a very bad experience.
her class is very very straightforward. no tricks whatsoever. the exams are very very similar to the homework and class examples. if u cant cut her class, then change majors. its that simple.
I fould Yuli Su to be very helpful. Her explanations are clear and concise. If you can do the homework, you can do the tests. She is especially helpful during one-on-one sessions at her office hours.
She talks too fast and has an awful accent. Don't miss any classes. Exams are similiar to homework but still very difficult and long. There is never enough time to double check your answers. No curve. Unfortunately all Finance students will end up with her.
Simply put: "if u can do the hw, u can do the test, no questions!" Be ready to challenge urself to rush through her exams; you normally don't have time to think! So master the hw!
This is one of the harder course if your a fin major, relative to the other fin courses. Recommendations: Attend every class! Be attentive, this class will take the whole class time "2:45" you wont get out early 90% of the time. You will require good note taking skills since an average day consist of 5-10 pages of note. 3 exam 5 quizes
class take the whole time, hardly get out early. lots of notes taken each day; u will be wowed with the material each day is lectured. 3 exams; 5 take home quizzes; 1 optional final if u like the grade u have already. requires u to understand the material really well in order to finish the test with the time alloted; no curve.
Prof. Su is one of the best finance teacher in the finance department. Her test consist of 45 mutiple choices questions. Make sure you know how to answer the HQ problems cause she writes the conceptual question base on those problems. And the calculation problem base on the HP problem. If you spend a lot of time on the class, you should do fine.
Prof. is a fantastic teacher. I am actually switching my major to finance because of her. However, her class is extremely difficult and time consuming. The first test is the hardest. Stick with it though because it gets easier. If you take this class, go to EVERY class, do ALL the hw, study ALL of the notes. Be diligent, this class is worthwhile
She doesn't curve or give extra credit, but her tests are all multiple choice. 1st test may be hard, but if you do the homework and STUDY the homework.. you'll do well. She lets you have a 4x6 cheat sheet for every test. 3 tests, 5 take home quizzes, and 1 optional cumulative final to replace your lowest grade.

Prof. Su is the best in finance department. Take her class before you go to Chen(353) because you learn everything about option and future in her class. It will prepare you in 353 because you will learn nothing about option and future in 353;yet, you are being tested on it.
Very straight forward class. Attend class, read the text, do the homework and study and you will pass. She has very helpfull lectures, organized and clear. Her tests are straight forward & multiple choice, allows a 4x6 card in the test. 5 take home quizzes, thw questions on the quizzes are on the test. If you study and don't miss class you will pas
prof su is very good and if yu go to her office she'll explain anything. do the hw and supplements and you'll be fine! she doesnt allow cheat card anymore though
Su is a great professor, sure there arent any cheat sheets but you get so much more memorizing everything. During her midterms/finals she makes extra sure that no one is cheating during the exams.
I was surprised to find out she was hard! She went over SO much material in one lecture that it was hard to keep up. Sometimes she would tell us to do the calculations at home and she would just give us the answer on the board.
Prof.Su was helpful and so far one of best finance teacher I ever had. With her I understood things other teachers couldn't explain well (or didnt know.)Took summer section and was intense. 2 midterms and 1 final non-cumm. 1st test is easier than 2nd. Final relat.easy. Book is non-friendly, so do not miss lectures. Grading was fair.
She's hard. Herself doesn't even know how to compute the problems from the test!
Does not allow even 1 cheat sheet, while all other core finance classes do. If she end up not having enough time to cover a topic, she still includes it on the test.
Very difficult class. Only 3 exams, with an optional CUMULATIVE final in the end to take if you need it (lots of material covered in final). Also about 6 mini quizzes. Su is cute, and anything finance excites her. Do the homework problems, get perfect scores on the quizzes and you should be ok so long as you take time to STUDY!
Her tests are very hard. Everything else is okay.
Best Finance teacher by far at SFSU! Excellent lecturer even though material is difficult. Provides plenty of homework for practice and there's no surprises during exams. What's on the exam is from homework probs. Attend class, take notes, DO HOMEWORK from slides, and you'll pass with a decent grade. No cheat sheets so know your material.
Hard class tons of material. Attending class is a must otherwise, will be very difficult to keep up and do well on the exam. Total of 3 midterms not cumulative, satisfied with your grade on those no need to take the final, which is cumulative. Through out the semester there are 2 take home quizzes. Make sure to do as many HW as possible.
I took her this summer. Her lecture was kind of bored and it was really hard for me to stay in the class for 4 hours a day (She gave us 15 min break twice tho). She is tough but a nice and caring teacher. Only 3 exams (not cumulative and 50 multiple questions). Go to class, take notes, do HW problems, and you'll do fine.
She is amazing! Do you're hw! No need to really read the book, just do the homework b/c the midterms are similar! She's great!
She really knows how to teach! I learned so much from that class and lecture. Didn't read the book but used notes in class to do the homework. Class material was challenging but teacher was approachable and explains well during office. Even though I didn't get a high grade I felt it was worth taking her class.
She lets students to use a one-page cheat sheet. However, tests still are difficult to many people. Many people choose to take CR/NC for this class. She does not curve, and there is no extra credit. Prepare to study a lot with no guarantee of receiving a good grade.
Her fail rate is 70%, she is a sweet person, but don't let those looks fool you!
Her lectures are very clear, which make you think you fully understand everything based on the concepts she has covered. But you'll realize you were wrong when taking tests because tests are extremely difficult and most of people get bad grades. Study the book wouldn't help to improve your grade neither unless you are extra smart.
WOW! in my opinion 1 of the best professor in the FIN depart. at SF state. This class itself is xtremely hard but Yuli explains everything very very clear. I learned SO MUCH from this class! You have to do ALL HW - if not you will faill the test! No need to buy the book - all the info provided in the slides. Final is comprehensive but optional :)
I'm defintely NOT extra smart and I'm sure I'll get A as the final grade. I've never read the textbook, just studied the ppt, and practice the HW twice. You'll find the exams are so much easier than the HW. Conceptual Qs require u do understand the material especially for the midterm 2. As long as u understand the ppt, nothing to worry.
She is a diligent professor. Grades always come out fast. She moved her Tuesday office hours to Monday (before the final exam started on Monday). I take it as she wants to help and gives students the last chance to ask questions (although I couldn't make it). What a good and responsible professor. Little things would make students respect a teacher
Not an easy A class(94%+). But, if u hate unorganized teachers, sucks lectures, & the Qs on the exams look like Russian to you, Su is your savior. Her lectures & material are the layouts for u to get A. Seriously u don't have to spend a whole lot of time on this course. The same amount of time investment for other instructors might not award u an A
Assets = Liabilities + Equity? I'll say "A"ssets = Attending classes + Active listening + Active note taking + Reviewing ppt after the class + Practicing HW + Asking questions in her office hours. Are they new tricks or tips? NO! Her FIN350 is not any harder than others'. It's actually easier for students since she is organized and easy to follow.
Don't spend $ on the fxxxxxx expensive textbook. Just borrow & copy from a kind classmate's book for HW. Or buy a cheap usd previous ed. Just double check the correct sequence of HW w/ a classmate or w/ the bookstore :) No need to read textbook & that's why I like about Su's class. Got 90+ on each exam.
I don't know. I was raised in Asia, & I feel FIN 350 is actually with very easy caculation & concept. I'm not smart but I'll just make sure I understand the topics before taking the exams, and that does require time(not a lot though). If you're a decent & diligent student, no problem for you to get A/ A-. If Su is not right for u, who else can be?
The 5/18 comments are true. I am glad I took her. She should have the best BUS or FIN professor award. She is very organized, clear, and concise. She is caring and kind and lectures are very interesting. The only thing about her class is the book. Except for HW (source of some conceptual questions) book=waste of $$
Don't miss any of her classes and make sure you study the notes thoroughly to pass her class. I wouldn't recommend this class if you have a full course schedule
What an awful teacher when it comes to this subject. Her tests are very very hard and she lectures way too quickly. She leaves out the important and difficult material that ends up on the tests. Has stuff that's not in the textbook because it's not supposed to be taught at this level. I'm glad I was ableto not get an F, butitwill bringyourGPAdown
Too much studying required. If you have to take this class, choose Ming Li instead.
First day of class, but I don't know whether or not I should stay. She seems really nice, but unfortunately her accent makes it really hard for me to understand her.
I bet all those comments on 5/18 and 5/19 were left by the same person. Sorry but here supposed to be a place that collect many people's opinions instead of a certain individual's opinion. This professor is good at doing lectures. That part is definitely crystal. However, when it comes to tests, it's a different story. Think twice about taking her.
This professor is very difficult. Her lectures are incomprehensible and reading the chapters won't help you much either. Her tests have lots of Conceptional questions that take a LOT of understanding. She also doesn't curve based on performance, which ever other Finance teacher does. Avoid if you need to pass this class!
Okay, here's what you readers want to know, the grading rubric: 3 quizzes, 4 in-class exercises, 3 exams (she gives more weight to the highest-graded one of the three). For exams, she allows 1 page of double-sided cheat sheets, and the exams aren't cumulative. There are 50 multiple choice q's per exam and she doesn't test on definitions.
Professor Su is a great teacher. She provides outlines for you to follow in her lectures. Follow these notes and you will succeed. No matter what, finance is a difficult subject, so don't expect to not put in some effort. Take home quizzes that you can easily get 100% on and a couple in class assignments. Study and you can do well in this class.
O man this was the most challenging course I've ever taken. You definitely have to put in study time. Even though it was a stressful course for me, I have to say that it is a good quality one. You know what you have to study, the outline is very clear. The homeworks are not collected so she gives us the answers which show the steps. I find this hel
she's fun. that's about it. the only thing bad about this class is that it's 7-10 at night. she explains the concepts very clearly and gives a lot of examples which help out a lot!
I think this class is harder than FIN 350 (also took her class). She is the best professor in whole Finance Department in SF state. She tries to give you more information whithin a limited time, that's why her speed is very fast. You'd better understand everything in the class, so the textbook is not needed.
I really liked Dr. Su as a teacher! she has a very motherly quality when you talk to her. She organizes the lectures into lecture notes, which is all you need to study! She explains everything so well, and shows you every step of the calculation! The best part is, her exams questions are the same ones in her quizzes and in-class examples! RECOMMEND
This teacher refuses to teach us formulas so what you get from this class are a bunch of useless examples that you will never be able to use later in your life. She has speaks english poorly and goes way to fast during lectures. dont waste money on the book, you never use it.
This is the HARDEST class I've taken thus far at State; unlike her 350 class, NO CHEATSHEET ALLOWED!!! you better not miss any classes, or her notes won't make sense to you! The material is pretty useful tho...
Dr. Su is one of the most organized and well prepared business professors I've had. She gives you notes, structures the class at a good pace, and truly wants you to learn and do well. She is very helpful, a great lecturer, and is very nice, funny too!She made a course that I dreaded to take turn out to be really enjoyable. Her summer class flew by.
Fin 350 is not that hard, but this teacher makes it so stressful, confusing, and difficult. She makes u print useless notes and doesn't care about about her students if they are understanding the material. All she cares about is finishing her lectures on time. She tlks so fast and b/c of her accent its hard to understand her.
I love this teacher!! So full of energy, the subject matter is dry, but she has a genuine interest in the material, you just got to be engaged, and you will pass. FIN 350 is tough, just got to attend each class, really listen, take notes, and get it done! Good luck, I love this teacher for putting her energy and effort out. But not easy
She's very organized and goes over everything that is going to be on the exam. The take home quizzes aren't hard if you do the homework in the textbook (similar questions). You get one sheet of paper of notes on the exams so that helps you big time. I found writing down stuff from the class note print out was 100% helpful. I got an A. Go to class!
Definitely one of the most difficult class I've ever taken. Please don't be fooled by the other reviews. Went to every class, took lots of notes, did the homework, studied like crazy and survived with a C. She doesnt curve like other FIN 350 profs. Be warned that she WILL try to trick. Lots of tricky exam questions. Take her if you want a challenge
Lectures are incomprehensible. Talks at an unbelievably fast pace. On multiple occasions shed be lecturing on a page of notes 2-3 pages after what the rest of the class thought she was covering. Obnoxious tapping on the board and speaking style. I worked hard in this class, but the adversity proved to great. Take at your own risk.
I took Dr. Su during the summer session and was pleased with her style. It is definitely a difficult class, but put in the time and you will be fine. She is very, very helpful in her office hours. I would highly recommend that. 3 tests, 3 take home quizzes, 4 in-class exercises. Tough, but a really solid teacher.
Took during summer. Went over notes at fast pace, often going through pages before class knew she explained them. Tests are based on homework examples more than class practice. Conceptual ?'s are -extremely- tricky. Doesnt curve. Good, organized, teacher but fast pace and tricky exam questions lead to 70% failure rates in class. Take at own risk.
One of the best teachers in the entire University. One thing I like is that she encourages class participation. If you get the answer wrong, she will never make fun of you! Her class will fill up earlier than any other teacher, so be sure to register early. You will feel smart after taking this class.
its a good class but she goes way to fast. nice teacher but the subject is incredible hard no joke. you have to study a lot. overall good teacher but hard test
Su is great, clear and helpful esp in office hours. A difficult class esp during summer but passable. failed first 2 exams but still passed with a B. Grade based on 3 Exams, allowed cheat sheets, and highest score is weighted more so you have a better chance to pass the class. Study off lecture notes/concepts, it'll help!!
Dr. Su is so organized. Her lectures and notes are clear. It is not an easy class in that you can pass without trying, but if you actually try, you can easily pass. GO TO CLASS and pay attention. I missed 1 class & failed the 1st exam. I started trying and got an A on everything else. Practice the calculations, put concepts on the cheat sheet.
The worst nightmare. No cheat sheet, lectures designed for obsessive compulsive disorder students not for normal. Notes she be at discretion of students not be forced to print 20 pages lectures which does not make sense to study from. The only one things positive is that she does not make final comprehensive , but still its very difficult to pass
I took this class in summer and I had to be in class for 4 hours and there was no need for coffee since Dr. Su kept me always awake! Very clear lectures and as long as you do all the homework you will do good. Class lecture will help you understand the subject a lot better. Finance is not an easy class but taking it with Dr. Su made it much easier.
Her class is really difficult. Yet, she doesn't curve. grades based on three exams, one weighted higher. She doesnt grade hw so either you're f- or you do well in the exam. I dont recommend if you are not a good test taker. Her questions are so tricky. Less than half d class took the finals cause most knew they were failing anyway.
Tips to succeed for her class: pay attention to her lecture and her explanation of all the definitions, understand each element in the formulas, practice the hw and do the quiz seriously. Make a good cheat sheet with all the formulas, if possible, with an example. you just need to plug in the numbers because that's the only things she changes.
One of the worst teachers. I highly doubt she has field experience, if she does she has no idea how to explain it. Tests are made to trick you and do not reflect lecture, 50 multiple choice conceptual and simple mathematics, but will take you the whole 3 hours. Loud, and not helpful lectures. Waste of time, read the book and learn yourself.
Loved her! Her class is hard, but if you go to class & take notes, you WILL pass. Tests are exactly the same format as lectures & exercises. You do not need the textbook at all if you go to every class. Makes you work for it but you do learn a lot! Great personality, keeps lectures interesting & engaging. Never a boring day with her!
She is a amazing teacher , very interesting lecture that u will not feel boring at all. I am taking her 4 hour long summer class, her sense of humor and knowledge about the topics make these 4 hours goes by super fast. I strongly recomend her if you do willing to learn finance. Test is not easy but as long as you pay attention in class.
Her lectures are extremely good! But her exams are extraordinarily difficult. Class averages were D and D-!! Her expectations are just too high.
You either get it or you don't. Notes are confusing to follow (12-20 pages in length) and tests are equally as strenuous. If your serious about Finance... this is the class for you, but students looking for an easy "D" should consider other options.
Her lectures are top-notch outstanding! BUT her expectations for our performance in her insane exams are way too much.
She is extremely passionate about the subject. However, her notes she requires the class to print out are very hard to follow. Homework is not graded. She does allow a cheat sheet on exams, but does NOT curve and does NOT have a lower grading scale like other FIN350 professors. If you're a Finance major, take her. If not, look to someone else.
Her teaching style made me feel like I was in high school. She acts more like a drill sargeant than a professor. Her exams are outrageously difficult. I would not take her again.
Take another professor if possible. Class was once a week, so had 3 hr. long lectures. Unlike other professors, Yuli Su does NOT curve tests, which are difficult, does NOT drop lowest test and does NOT grade homework. If you do not do well on exams, which makes up the majority of your grade, you will fail the class.
Yuli Su is a fantastic instructor and a true asset to the finance department. While extremely difficult, her instruction made my (now) MBA classes significantly easier. If you actually want to learn finance - which will make your job and any future education easier - you must take Dr. Su. The classes are passable, but you need to work.
Dr. Sus class wasnt easy at the time I was taking it in 2009. You must put in extra hours studying and understanding all new financial concepts. I wasnt sure if the extra time was worth spending but I did anyway. Years later, I realize it was Dr. Sus class that shaped the foundation in Finance and helped me pass CFA exams.
She goes very fast in class. You should read before every class. Practice a lot of the homework. She does not give extra credit or drops your lower score. 6 exams, 6 quizzes, and 4 in-class writings. In class writings are super easy, everyone gets a 100%, quizzes are intermediate by ilearn and exams are really hard.50%theory 50% calculations+2bonus
Dr Su is the excellent professor. The lecture is outstanding and amazing !! No homework and the exam is all based on the HW! I don't know why the rate is so low, but Du Su is the greatest and you will regret to not take her class. Great teacher!
Dr. Su is amazing! Professional and knowledgeable of all topics. Exams are straightforward, and lectures are engaging. Highly recommend taking her class!
Maybe it is really easy for some of the students who are interesting in finance and good at accounting, I am really bad at accounting and it is hard to catch up. Be prepared to work really hard if you want to take this class, at least read the whole textbook.
I took her online during the summer of 2020. Straightforward lectures and explains things well. While the homework is optional, I still recommend studying & working on them as the exams are similar to the HW & lecture. If you struggle with exams, take advantage of her extra credit bonus exercises. That really helped me pass.
Homework is called quizzes, need 680 points for C-, gives solutions for the out of the book questions but doesn't assign those, and the exams are more difficult than the homework assignments, 3 attempts on quizzes, and one attempt for the exam. very thorough in stating all of the information in lectures, lectures are recorded, and given the notes.
Not bad, not great. I had a difficult time understanding her notes and sometimes it was hard to understand what she was saying. There are 5 exams and 10 homeworks. The homeworks saved my grade so try to get a perfect score on each. I would not take this class again.
Dr. Su is an expert in Finance. If you are OKAY with her accent, you can understand her lectures. Grading is based on 5 exams and 15 quizzes. Although there won't be any cumulative exam, you'll have to study really hard since it's a difficult class overall.
Dr. Yuli is the best instructor in FINANCE. I really suggest you take her class. Her exams are pretty easy if you really study questions from the textbook, lectures, and exam sample. Easy A class. I would take her class again in my future finance classes.
THIS PERSON IS A BAD HUMAN BEING AND I SWEAR IM NOT BEING SALTY!!!!!!
The class was sort of hard for me failed 3 tests but once you get the hang of it you will be able to pass! Passed the final test with a B+ which helped me maintain a C in the course. It is open notes, open book, you can also see the past excises that you did to solve problems for the chapter test. Good lectures and professor is very helpful.
I am usually an A student, and almost failed this class. If you are not good with timed exams, do not take this course. The professor is an amazing human being, I loved her lectures, attended all of her classes and put about 10 hours a week into the course and STILL almost failed. If you are taking a full load of classes, this course requires WORK
MAKE A STUDY GROUP! Working together will save you from failing. Go to class everyday if u want great notes, her exams are timed, but material is from the homework and exercise quizzes. If you do the hw and ace the exercises, you'll be ok on the exams. A great prof and passionate about finance. You will def learn stuff, but ur grade is based on you.
Please find a study group to figure out how to solve the exercises are way to succeed in this class. Taking notes on her class's lecture examples and exercises are main part for the exam. There are 5 exams in her class. She is very passionate of teaching. She is straight-forward of giving real-life example to understand the concepts.
Professor Su's FIN350 class is challenging, but worth the effort. The exams are tough, so form a study group and use resources like unstuckstudy to prepare. Attend class, do the homework, and you'll learn a lot.
She is a passionate professor and uses real-world examples to explain certain formulas. However, you're only graded on a couple of exercises and the exams. It's very much exam-heavy. I recommend going every day and having your lecture notes prepared beforehand. If you struggled with math and accounting, try taking this course online.
