DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. TAKE PLATE instead. Cant understand this teacher and test are impossible.Got a D in his class and A in Plate. You have been warned
HE IS NOT HARD AT ALL. IF YOU TAKE A LOT OF NOTES, ITS AN EASY A OR B. I GOT AN A.
He is very nice and helpful. If you study you will find the tests very easy.
He is a little hard to understand and sometimes his test questions are unclear. Test formant for this year at least has 1/3 of it on definitions which are sure points if you memorize. Then some m/c and short essays are thrown in. Class is very boring.
He is a little boring, but pretty easy. His class is totally discussion oriented, so be prepared to give an opinion. When I wasnt bored to death, I really enjoyed what he had to say.
Sodiq is a great guy. He is not only very kind, but also very helpful whenever you ask him about things in and outside of class. His tests aren't too difficult, and he promotes much discussion. Not sure why that other guy here gave him a 1...
Sodiq was the most unhelpful and unapproachable professor I've come across at TCU. Although I loved the class material, I did not enjoy his class or his teaching methods.
his tests are impossible and his class is super boring- DO NOT TAKE IT
Nice guy but hard to follow. Hard to understand accent but also doesn't present material clearly. Good class though, very interesting!
Even though his teaching methods aren't the best and his thoughts trail and are unclear the class is ok. It's a pretty boring class unless you are dying to know about other religions. He's hard to undearstand but gets' easier once you've heard him talk.
accent aside, i had no problem following sodiq. very engaging professor, and the material was fascinating. would take a class from him again.
hahaha i luvvv this guy hes so funny and as long as you dont act like an ignorant **** your good to go...he reminds me of rafiki on the lion king ;) his tests are hard but i barely studied you can bs your way thru if you have a gen knowledge.
Ahh, Sodiq! What a nice and funny guy. Study for the tests, ask lots of questions. He is flexible with the responses. So cool.
This class was very interesting. I learned a whole new perspective on religion as a whole. Study guides help a lot. Do the homework and go to class: Attendance alone is 10% of your grade. I loved this class, is NOT an easy A- work hard and you'll succeed.
I really loved his point of view on everything. He was very good at explaining different views of religions, and helpful with any questions. He challenges you to form your own opinions and to think critically, but also open mindedly.
Sodiq was very nice, and also helpful. He encourages class discussions and involvement. However, he is very difficult to understand I lost concentration all the time because I had to spend more time trying to figure out what he was saying.
world religion was hard, no doubt about that, Dr. Sodiq is a really cool open minded guy, who is funny, knows his stuff and some americans might not understand him, his tests are really hard, you can t pull it our of your A$$ so study work hard have fun and you ll get the grade you diserve
He is very hard to understand with his accent but he is very funny and very nice. It is an easy class to get a B.
Amazing guy.. he actually wrote the entire class an email telling us he was proud of our hard work and that we were taking his class. Very genuine man who really cares about students. He even encourages calling him at home for help. Tests are extremely hard though.. all essay format.
SODIQ!!! By far one of my best professors in college. Be open minded and understand there is more in the world than Christianity and you will go far. Tests are all essay, but straight forward. Ask him for a review sheet and he will make one though, IT REALLY HELPS!
Very smart, hard to understand. Classes got boring, TONS OF NOTES, but he is an awesome professor. Just be prepared for your hand to hurt at the end of class. Spend a lot of time studying for tests, it pays off. A lot of essays and short answer on definitions. Easy A on all papers and quizzes.
i hated this class.. it was horrible.. i couldnt understand him.. plus his tests are so hard.. there is stuff on the test that you only talked about for say 10 minutes and you dont even remember learning it.. i recommend not taking him as a professor.. worst class ever.. i regreted not dropping.. ahhhh
He is very hard to understand because of his African accent and he doesn't help you if you need help. He makes you write a paper on EVERYTHING! and his tests are hard if you don't read the books that are mentioned in the syllabus. Also, all you do is take notes during class! I wouldn't recommend him!
Hard to understand and take notes every day! I would say this was my most boring class and was hard for me to stay awake. His test are pretty hard and gives no direction as to how to study for his tests. I earned a B but it was definitley a hard class!
don't take it if you don't plan on working hard and really learning the material. tests are insanely long and study guides are ridiculous. work with your classmates but really study. he rewards effort and will definitely work with you if you need help.
He's hard & ya have to try very hard. Attendance is part of the grade, & he gives pop quizzes. If you don't go, you won't get the AMAZING notes either. They're from the book but more clear. He's hard to understand when you're not focusing, so listen. Talk to him, he'll help. STUDY! On essays write as much detail as you can...He likes examples
I went to private school my entire life and have studied it for 12 years, I THOUGHT this class would be an automatic A. This class was sooo hard. I could not understand him, He had no idea who I was, His tests were very hard, He grades on attendance, His quizzes do not cover the right material, and I never knew my grade. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Dr. Sodiq is from Nigeria and can not speak proper English. He is UNFAIR in his grading and will NOT help when you ask for it.
Dr. Sodiq is not nice.
He is hard to understand and he makes us take his quizes after the tests.....smart. You will make an A if you read the text and take notes. You must come to calss because he takes attendence and it is a big part of your grade. *Do not take this class unless you love new, incoming freshmen.*
He is a very nice guy, hard to understand at first. Because of the language barrier true/false part of test is harder than it is meant to be. I made an A, but it took some hard studying the night before tests
Prof. Sodiq is very nice, but tends to push his own religion's (Islam) ideas on students. He does so very subtle though. *Calls everybody his friend - lol*
He's a great teacher but he's hard to understand if you're not focusing throughout the whole class. He has a tendency to misinterpret what you ask but he has a great knowledge of what he's teaching. If you go to class and take notes you should make a B without even reading the textbook.
Hard to understand, tests are mostly essay. Attend class, do readings, not to bad.
He is very hard to understand, he grades your papers with "good" "very good" or "excellent" so you never REALLY know what your grades are. He takes attendence everyday, so you have to go. His tests are mostly eassy based, but also has 50 multiple choice. He is very detail-oriented.
this was the easiest class i had taken.just remember to read the text. and studyn for the quiz does help prepare for the test even tho the quiz itself hardly affects ur grade. he isnt tht hard to understand, yes he has an accent and he speaks softly, but he is coherent. BUT can be boring in the afternoon!
He flies by the seat of his pants. not organized at all. Repeats everything in the book. He wakes people up all the time. Very Smart, very informative, he's not as difficult to understand than people say unless you also have trouble speaking English. He will give a 110 question review 4 days before the hardest exam. Good Luck...
he's a very nice man. the first test was so easy but the second test was way harder bc it was over his religion (islamic). not much work but the class is pretty boring to sit through. got a B without much work. hes VERY soft spoken and has an accent. tests are some mc/true false then 2-3 essays and 10 free response.
He's an extremely nice guy and very smart. His tests are pretty easy if you're good at writing essays, otherwise you could be in for some trouble. He has an accent but he's easy to understand regardless. I wouldn't recommend taking him if you dislike a lot of note taking. Overall a great teacher.
easy, but boring class. i brought my laptop everyday to facebook, because otherwise i would fall asleep. his tests aren't too bad, if you have the basic understanding of each religion. papers are easy if you write positively about his religion (islam). easy b... but you do have to attend class. easy extra credit too (if you ask him for it)
Worst professor I've ever had. His grading system is arbitrary, his quizzes have little to no bearing on your overall grade, and I don't think it's possible to make an A. He wrangled a PHD out of somewhere, and he can hardly speak English. If you have an alternative, I highly recommend it. He's better suited to teaching in his native country.
Don't take him. His class is hard and he expects too much out of students. You really have to go every class. His quizzes are difficult and you HAVE to read the book. I would not take him again or recommend him...take someone who understands that this class isn't our world.
Hate this class, boring class, hard class, don't take this class, to much reading,to much writing,to confused questions in the exam and in the class, strong accent, do not take this class. uses books, notes, research papers, and power points.I made -B evry very gard working.
Do not take him. Very hard to understand. His grading system is unclear. 3 hard tests: multiple choice, true false, definitions, essays. You HAVE to read EVERYTHING in order to pass this class. He is hard to understand and never really teaches you anything. YOU MUST READ. My advice: take a different professor for World Religions
Anyone who thinks that he's a bad teacher doesn't put any effort into understanding what he has to say. He goes over everything in extreme depth, and if you can get over his accent, then he's a great teacher. Take his class if you actually want to learn and not just make an easy A because you are paying to learn, not just slide by.
A very good teacher. He goes into everything in EXTREME detail. He does call you out in class to answer questions about the reading so READ! He has a very thick accent and is very soft spoken so sit in the front! He really tries to make religion fun and easy to understand.
Not the best of teachers. Definitely hard to understand and his class is impossible to stay awake in yet he does seem to try. My biggest complaint is there are tons of assignments you do that don't ever get put in the gradebook and he lacks organization and no one ever knows where the class is going or whats going to be on the tests
Really one of the sweetest people you'll meet. Sad to say as much as I enjoyed his stories, he is almost impossible to understand. Thick African accent, confusing notes and a language barrier. Often doesn't understand what you're asking and goes off on another topic. Material is interesting, but the tests are TERRIBLE. Pass/fail this one for sure.
Can't understand a word he says and I don't even think he knows whats going on in his own class.
Dr. Sodiq is a sweet person, and very helpful if you ask for it. He knows what he is talking about, but he is extremely soft spoken and has a thick accent. If you go to class, and read outside class, you will do well. He also likes examples on his test.
He is very soft spoken and has a thick accent but this is one of the easiest religion classes. attendance is such a grade booster and quizzes are easy. Tests haven't been much of a challenge either. After talking to my friends I realized just how easy this class is compared to the other religion classes, take him! :)
He speaks really quietly. Also, his tests aren't hard if you know what he is asking, but his English isn't the best, so often there will be two answers that are correct on the test, but he doesn't realize that, and counts one of them wrong. He can't answer questions because of the language barrier. I don't recommend this class. Take someone else!
I did learn a lot in this class but he is unclear sometimes and a hard grader on essay questions. The book was nice to read after class and understand more clearly what he was talking about. There is outside of class assignments such as going to different religious gatherings so beware
Thick accent, soft spoken, not very good English skills. Didn't know my first name by the end of the semester even after e-mailing him. Knows what he's talking about, but is not clear on grading. Attendance is mandatory, because he barely posts anything on e-college, even grades. I wish I would have PNC'd the class I took with him.
Hardest class of college so far
He clearly knows what he is talking about and I learned a lot. However, he is very unclear with deadlines and how he grades. He sends out emails telling us what to read which is helpful, but he will NEVER reply to your emails, which is frustrating. Also there is a bit of a language barrier, so some of his test/quiz questions can be confusing.
There is a quiz every class however it is never on what the syllabus says so there is no point of studying because it will be on something different. He speaks very quietly and is hard to understand. I would not recommend this class to anyone.
Soda is a very nice man, but his class was awful. There were quizzes every class period, and the syllabus was never accurate. He also was very poor at responding to emails! I know that he cares a lot about religion, but the language barrier and never knowing what to read for class, made learning anything really difficult.
Dr. Sodiq is so kind and knowledgeable. He cares about all of his students and genuinely wants you to do well. He is accessible outside of class and gives extra credit for participation. Class consists of discussion rather than lecture. You have to do the readings because he will call on you in class. Best religion prof at TCU
Sodiq has been my favorite professor thus far at TCU. I see a lot of negative reviews about him, but if you read the pages that he assigns in class instead of following the outdated syllabus you should be fine. Daily quizzes check that you were actually reading, so don't get behind on those. This class is NOT an easy A, but I would still recommend.
Dr. Sodiq is a great teacher, you just have to sit in the front and pay attention. He gets irriated by phones and really respects those who pay attention and participate. He has VERY lenient due dates and a fair grader. There is a language barrier but I also think he might be hard at hearing. So speak up and participate and you will do fine.
I learnt so much from this class.
There is a quiz on reading every class. There also a language barrier, he is from Nigeria originally. Very nice man, loved having him to talk with, but class was boring, difficult to pay to attention to. He also is very bad at technology. There is also only two tests the whole semester so they really matter. Overall would not take again-but nicely
Definitely don't take this for a religion credit. There's a quiz every single class period on the reading assigned. However, the quizzes really don't actually pertain to the readings so there's no way to prepare. Dr. Sodiq is a nice man but his lectures are boring and confusing. Two tests in the semester puts a lot of pressure on your grade too.
Sodiq is a joke. He is incredibly biased in his lectures and does not fully expand on topics. To top that off, he is incredibly difficult to understand. That carries over to the quizzes too (you'll have one every day) all the questions are written in broken english and multiple students have complained about getting questions wrong due to wording.
Pop quiz every day over the reading. Although the lectures are boring, if you pay attention and take notes you will pass.
Dr. Sodiq is a very nice man, but he is not the strongest teacher. There is a communication barrier because English is not his first language, he is hard of hearing, and he has a thick accent. He also pulls quiz questions randomly from the assigned passages, so they are often not the main points. Class is easy to follow but dry. Most did Pass/NC.
Took Dr. Sodiq for Islam in America. He isn't too challenging, however his syllabus doesn't add up to what he's teaching in class. He also waited to the 13th week of the 16 week semester to put in all of the grades so far. Also, will not give review to the exam, specifically mid-term til about two days before the exam.
I would NOT recommend this class. Mr. Sodiq is NOT respectful toward his students, and often embarrasses students in front of the whole class, to the point of no one wanting to speak up. I've also never had so much homework. Every day you have quizzes over material that is hard to understand.
Fantastic individual and personality. Class lectures are filled to the brim with reading material but are simple and understandable. Quizzes/Exams are surprisingly difficult/detail-oriented than what was discussed in class. Almost no way to succeed through lectures alone, must read books/ articles. Essay's are fine. D2L organization is atrocious.
Do not take this class.
probably the worst teacher i have ever had. he is so mean and disrespectful. you can not understand a word this man says and he makes me hate religion more than I ever thought possible.
Absolutely terrible biggest problem with him is that you can not understand a word he says to the point where you actually cant learn. He has no idea how to use D2L he once tried to give a quiz three times in a class and couldnt figure out how to put questions on it. The quizzes are also hard when he figures out how to create one. Do NOT take
Very unclear about instructions for homework and assignments. Also theres a difficult language barrier and he's hard to understand. Will not explain an assignment and email you the day before that it's due. The entire class consists of him asking students questions. Try to take a different religion class...
I really enjoyed my class with Sodiq, he is extremely qualified in his field, and being not from this country he is able to expose his students to new perspectives and unfamiliar literature.
Dr. Sodiq is a super down to earth guy who teaches a great religion class. He exposes you to many different religions and perspectives which makes for a great learning experience. Dr. Sodiq is a slow grader of daily quizzes, which are surprisingly hard, but he is generous with extra credit at the end. Put in the work for this class, it pays off.
Dr. Sodiq is a great guy however he is just a terrible professor. It is very hard to understand him during lectures. He also assigns you to read a crazy amount, and most of the information you will never see again on anything. His lectures are boring, and I struggle to go to class because of this. I would stay away from this class.
I took this class for a core credit- wish I wouldve taken another. Sodiq has a thick accent that I can sometimes understand. Class consists of weekly quizzes- come straight from the notes, 2 tests that are difficult, lots of discussions (brings up politics), and many small essays. There is a language barrier and he makes you work for your grade.
Pretty easy religion class. Sodiq does have a very thick accent but it honestly isn't that hard to understand him. Lots of reading from two different text books and articles he assigns, along with weekly quizzes, which usually come straight from the lectures or the readings. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS
This class is brutal. An almost overwhelming amount of work complemented by confusing lectures. His heavy accent is difficult to understand which is very frustrating when he is explaining difficult concepts. He loves cold calling and his class is built on forced participation. Try and take a different religion class if you can.
If you take this class, I will pray for you. It is the most boring class ever and you cannot understand him. Class always goes the full hour twenty. I dread going every class. Just find another professor to take.
The class is quiz heavy, almost one quiz every week but its usually over the things you went over in the class before that. They are pretty simple, just make sure to pay attention during his lectures. His exams are really long just make sure to study. They can sometimes get boring and repetitive.
Professor Sodiq is one of the toughest professors I have ever taken. He is very difficult to follow, and sometimes contradicts himself during his lectures. His tests are extremely difficult, and requires a lot of studying just to pass. I would definitely recommend finding a different professor to take his class if you can.
DO NOT TAKE SODIQ. Lectures for the WHOLE 1.5 hours, cold calls everyone at least once a class with really difficult questions. However, I didn't read a single page of the textbook, played computer games every class, and still ended up with an A. He Grades papers super easily bc he doesn't speak English well. Quizzes once a week are hard.
This is the worst class. He is impossible to understand because he speaks and writes in nearly broken English. Lectures and test questions are contradictory and most questions are opinions. He also laughs at student's answers in class after cold calling. People saying it's a fine class are lying. Made me regret coming to this school.
This class is annoying but doable. He is a kind man, but It is very difficult to hear him and understand him. He commonly teaches his opinion so you basically have to know his opinion for quizzes which is hard to remember. Questions seem to contradict themselves sometimes. You never will know what exactly to expect on a quiz or test. don't take it
The classes can be boring, but the tests are straight forward enough to do well in the class. You can always go to office hours to clear things up and go over past quizzes and tests. There is a lot of reading, but skimming and getting the main idea will do. Extra credit can bring you up a letter grade in this class.
Dr.Sodiq really cares about students and is understanding if you communicate with him.ALOT of readings and the class is discussion based which is boring at times. Do the work, go to class and you should be good. His english is clear, has written multiple books so students who don't understand him probably don't have a grasp of academic language.
He is a good professor if you talk to him outside of class. However, his class is very lecture heavy and you get called on randomly almost every class. You have to answer for participation which is difficult at times if you are lost. There are also a lot of lengthy readings or videos for each class which go with the class or quizzes.
Sodiq is a nice guy. I took the Tuesday/Thursday class that was an hour and a half and NEVER got out early the whole year. Material can feel random if you are not caught up, and if you have to take, make sure that you are clear of all the assignments as he is pretty poor at communicating when they are due. Good dude but hard to listen!
Dr. Sodiq's course was very interesting and I would definitely recommend it. There are tests every week but if you read you will pass, you will write lots of papers but they are never more than two pages, and there is only a midterm and a final. If you read you will do well, and he is super sweet, I highly recommend him!
literally the worst. he does not upgrade the syllabus EVER so you never know what's due and you have a quiz just about every class on about 25 pages of reading (no notes allowed). He has a heavy accent and is very hard to understand.
weird but nice guy. class is pretty boring and you dont do much. Does not know how to use technology so heavily use that in your favor. not a first choice option for religion but not the worst.
Dr. Sodiq has an accent and may be a bit hard to understand at times, but he is such a sweet and caring person. He does give a lot of readings and will call on you in class, but it is very manageable. There is a quiz every week, a few papers and 2 exams. I would definitely take him. Reli isn't easy, but he's a great option to make it easier.
I do not recommend Sodiq. His syllabus was always wrong and he would change assignments all the time. He has a thick accent and it is very difficult to keep up with. He would randomly assign like 2 hour long videos to watch and a ton of reading. Also, his test questions were pretty subjective and very confusing.
If I could give this man 0/5 I would. Barely speaks english, more preachy than teachy. Insanely boring class with so much reading to do, and if you don't read you WILL fail. Wanted to take an easy A class for religion credit but this was not that. I chose P/NC and scraped away with a 70 something on the final. DO NOT TAKE THIS
He will cold call on you during class and laugh at you for not knowing the answers or not saying what he wants to hear. His teachings are very subjective and he teaches his own opinion, so for any of the quizzes just think about what his opinions and beliefs are in order to pass the quizzes. He does not allow phones at all not even for emergencies.
Dr. Sodiq was a decent professor, he was sometimes hard to understand and calls on you multiple times during class but overall his class was easy if you read and studied the material.
Professor Sodiq's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the effort. unstuck AI helped me stay on top of the readings and prep for the quizzes. Overall, a rewarding experience.
