repeats things a lot, but very funny, kind, helpful and great lectures!
Really fun to listen to!
Yvonne rocks! my fav prof! makes class fun so you are interseted! she rocks!!!!!
seems really interested in the subject matters, which helps A LOT.
Great Prof. Keeps class interesting.
She is the best English Proffesor I have come across yet. She makes life easier as a student because while getting work done she makes it fun. Yvonne it has been a great 2 terms. Thanks
made an otherwise dull and tedious prerequisite into a class worth going to.
This teacher is the bomb! class was always a laugh and you were getting your work done the same time. If you get the chance, make her your prof.
Wicked ass prof. Class is a joy going to. She makes everything seem funny. Even poetry.
Excellent prof!!!, actually enjoyed going to an english class. Makes everything fun and interesting.
GREAT PROF! Interesting and fun.
Very good prof, very fair
I loved Yvonne! She's got a great sense of humour, her classes are rarely boring. She very fair and pleasant! Even made poetry interesting!
She is one of the best professors I ever had, she makes almost everything interesting and I actually find myself looking forward to her class.
by far the nicest prof i've had so far. i hated english until i had her! even POETRY is interesting when she teaches it. she's eager to help her students as much as she possibly can. very fair marker, and extremely clear with her lectures. definitely get her if you can!!! :)
She's the gretest prof ever and she's hilarious. Which takes down the tension a little bit. She's also great when explaining stories and poems..
I found her incredibly condescending and annoying. I get the sense she really wants to be the "cool prof", so if you're easily impressed and want the material spoon-fed to you, take this course with her.
She Seems to great so far
All poems and stories seemed to have the same meanings with her.I worked very hard but I could never pull off great marks! She picks her favorites and gives them the good marks. I would never take a course with her again, but the course overall is pretty easy, she has a sense of humor, but it can annoy you by the end for sure.
She loves the feminist/women's lib kinda stuff. The only stories we did this term were ones about women being opressed. She marks easy if you know what to write. Don't have any original thought in her class. She says she respects differing opinions; but she doesn't. Give her back what she rants about in class and you'll be fine.
She was an excellent teacher. She made english as interesting as it could be. She marks fair and writes great comments on how to improve.
Has great knowledge of facts and def'n to help understand meaning of stories/poems. Really sparked my interest in stories/poetry by showing that there is no hidden meaning, only a intended idea attempting to be shown by the author. Thanks. I did not do as well as I would like, but that's an English Dept. marking scheme problem. Excellent Thanks!
Very good prof. She has an awesome sense of humor and is the only prof I have that can keep me awake during class!
Best i have ever had
Loved her! She was awesome funny and had very interesting discussions in class. Shes a fairly good marker and very helpful inside and out of class.

Approachable, very down to earth and funny. Can be boring at times, but that's more to do with the course itself. Gives excellent help outside of class time, and seems to genuinely take an interest in the success of her students. I'd recommend her to anyone.
Shes an amazing teacher! She has could lectures and seems to be really easy going. She is helpful, and Entertaining. She a good grader.JUST make sure you listen to the notes she leaves on your paper.she puts them there to help you!
She's a good prof; she gets on a level with her students, not talking down to them. This however, isn't always the best, as sometimes it seems unprofessional-like. But she is very approachable, & wants to help with in-class work as well as out-of-class work. She's very real.
The best prof i've had this term. Would recommend HIGHLY!
Excellent prof.- Respectful to students, crystal clear on what to expect, if you go to class(which I did 50%) your guarenteed to do well, proof reads assign, funny. ---Nothing bad to say about her really.
Looked more at the historical than literary side of English. The course was turned into a history course, although she did make the objectives and test questions quite clear in class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you miss a class, you'll miss pages of notes and will fall behind, so it's not worth it. Fair marker.
Really, really great. Enough said.
Very nice! Books were interesting and she was always willing to help. Lectures were very useful as well.
Prof. Hann is great! She makes herself and what she expects very clear. She is a very fair marker. I'd recommend her to anyone. She can be funny and quirky, too.
Fabulous! Willing to help, and stay after class. Makes what she expects very clear, and makes class interesting! She sometimes related personal stories to the topics, which helped keep the attention of students. Would DEF reccommend her@@
Great prof. Marks fair. Questions on exams are easy, as long as you knew your stories there were no trick questions. Always willing to help. If you miss a class its not a big deal she usually dosnt give notes just talks about the stories/poems. I barley went to class and got a 70. Would definately reccomend her!
Dr. Hann is a great prof. Her classes are fairly exciting as she is quite humorous, and she designs her tests/exams to be quite easy. If you attend class, you will know what is on the tests. She also allows students to curse haha. I'd definitely recommend her for any Eng. course.
Absolutely loved her, and would take many more classes with her! She's very helpful and gives good feedback, she prepared me well for all exams and essays.. She often goes about telling stories about things not related to the subject but thats what keeps it fun, she also has horrible humour, but you laugh because she thinks she's funny! LOVE HER!
If you want a prof who blabs on about things that don't relate to the class, pick her! Did not really like her as a prof!
The best english prof ever. period. Helpful, funny, nice, concerned and always with an element of surprise. Would take her again in a heartbeat.
Does tend to go off on tangents so we dont get a lot done most of the time and a kind of a hard marker but shes funny and really helpful and is very clear in what she wants.
I loved going to Dr. Hann's English class. She is extremely helpful, she's funny, and she knows her stuff. She marks fairly. She respects her students, and she do not look down upon her students. I would recommend her 100%
Dr. Hann is great! Not much more one could want from a literature professor. Highly recommenced doing 1101 with her when she chooses dystopian literature, excellent novels.
English 1080. Was a good grader, tells you your mistakes so that you can improve and know what is expected on the final. You wont regret choosing her as a prof. The only thing was, our classes are 1:15 minutes, and instead of simply reading and explaining she would ramble on about the subject of the story, not the story itself. Easy to do well.
Dr. Hann was a very interesting proffesor to listen to. She does go off on tangents very frequently though. Marks hard if you do not do exactly what she asks. She gives you the opportunity to fix your mistakes on in class essays for extra marks. I would recommend if you are willing to put in a lot of work.
She seems a little strange at first but she is such a laugh! we did fantasy novels, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Princess Bride... She gives you a chance to fix the essays you hand in, after she has corrected them. Sometimes she goes off topic, but in the end it proves her point. She is a character and fun to listen to! highly recommend this prof!
Best English prof. I've ever had. She really knows her material and is MORE than willing to help out. Does great books and is a great teacher. Went from a C- to a B+
Dr. Hann was the best!! Great knowledge base and she makes everything interesting.
This woman is an incredible prof! She's hilarious and organized and knows her stuff. Classes always fly by and you always walk away having learnt something.
Dr. Hann is very interested in the subject matter making her classes more like a history lesson, but interesting none the less! Willing to go over a draft and make corrections and suggestions before you pass in your final copy. The texts are a bit difficult but if you go to class and listen you'll be able to write the papers! Recommended !
Dr. Hann is an angel, she's so full of knowledge and was hands down the best professor I have ever had. She goes out of her way to help you, and knows her stuff 110%! I'd take another course from her in a heart beat.
I LOVE Pr.Hann, I deliberately took her for both semesters last year! She is funny and kind of cynical and sarcastic, but it just made her so much more entertaining.
Yvonne is a great prof . I myself had no interest in English before I took her course, however her lectures made me want to attend her class. Her lectures were easy to follow and she gave many opportunities to improve on grades
Yvonne knows what she's talking about, but goes off topic all the time which makes class boring and dull. Also seems to me that she was a very hard grader.
Gives great study notes and knows what she is talking about. However she goes off topic a lot and class was a little boring. Fair grader. Likes good grammar.
Pr. Hann is an interesting prof. She tends to rant on a lot but for the most part it still relates to the text, and I found it made the classes less boring. To redeem yourself after tests she gives you the opportunity to fix grammar mistakes to get bonus marks. I would take her class over again in a heartbeat, so I would definitely recommend her!
she was great! has an interesting selection of literature and has a lot to say about what she teaches. Sometimes gets off topic but still makes class interesting.
The most confusing prof i have had yet at mun. She judges all of your work based on her opinion of you and makes it impossible to get your grade up no matter how often you get her help. falling asleep in her lectures is unavoidable! only good this is she posts study notes and is helpful outside of class time
Took 1080&1101 with Dr.Hann! It was almost impossible to score an 80+ on your in-class, but she really helped teach you what to fix in your grammar, etc. She let you send in out of class papers early so she could fix them. Also had awesome novels for 110. Loved her little rants, she is so knowledgeable, friendly and funny. I really enjoyed class!
Unlike most other English professors, she's sympathetic to the fact that 90% of the first level English classes aren't English students. She teaches a lot like a highschool teacher and picks easy and interesting novels. She's also interesting and hilarious! Highly recommended, especially if you're not strong in English
great prof! she makes classes interesting, even if she veers off topic. marks great for an english prof. very fair. course work distributed well. I actually enjoyed this course.
Great teacher
My favourite professor. AMAZING teacher. She makes the course interesting and explains everything extremely well while making it fun for everyone. Easy to talk too. She will grade you based on your work, not you as a person but she is understanding about student issues that could affect deadlines for assignments. Very energetic and intelligent.
She is good when it comes to giving assignments and tests. She made sure we were well prepared.. If you came to class. Texts and stories were done in great detail. You still have to work to get a good grade but she makes sure that you have all information in order to get a good grade
I enjoyed having Yvonne Hann as my first English prof. Great introduction to university English. She's a tough grader but she's just trying to ensure you know everything you need to pass higher level english courses. Lectures were interesting and she explained everything thoroughly. I took her ENGL 1011 class as well.
Although some lectures are repetitive, she does this to make what she expects very clear which makes her class easy to navigate. She is really responsive to you if you need help, I tried to send in a rough draft for help but my e-mail didn't work so she gave me an extension so I could look over a printed copy. Very helpful.
Very easy grader compared to most english profs. She gives you the notes and if you read them there is basically no way to fail. Lectures are long, she often doesnt stay on topic and talks about unrelated thing which gets annoying. If you struggle at english i strongly recommed taking her course, i suck at writing and im doing really well.
It's always hard to find a decent english prof. Dr. Hann is probably one of the better ones, if you put the work in you will get half decent marks. She posts all her notes online so you could not go to class the whole semester and be totally fine. She rambles on about random things in lectures which can be annoying but overall she's an alright prof
Dr. Hann was a great prof. Easy to understand, offered help if you requested it, and was clear in what she expected. She rambles a lot and gets off topic often and doesn't usually wear shoes if that bothers you. Pretty good marker as well!
Dr. Hann is a pretty funny person, I enjoy listening to her talk when she goes off on a tangent (which happens often). It is a bit annoying that she gets away from the subject so easily but the class doesn't drag on so much when she does. She will give you clear feedback and I liked how she read the stories to us. I enjoyed her!
Dr. Hann was one of my favorite profs. She always gives lots of feedback and will meet with you to go over your papers and explain what she wants. Only problem is she has a tendency to go off topic A LOT.
My favorite prof so far. I absolutely love Dr. Hann and her tangents. She gets slightly off topic some times but it's really refreshing and you don't lose much time to it in class. She knows the perfect amount. It's not a very hard course to pass, I don't think, and there's very little homework. Seriously, if you get the chance, get Y Hann.
Dr. Hann is a great prof! She knows what she's talking about and makes classes interesting with her tangents and jokes. She gives pretty good feedback, though her grading is pretty tough. I'm taking 1110 with her next semester, and moved another class so I could have her again. If you go to class you'll know exactly what to expect on the exams!
Taking her again for sure, great prof.
Dr. Hann is absolutely hilarious, and on top of that an awesome prof! If you attend all lectures then the material on tests and exams shouldn't come as a surprise to you as she basically gives you the topics. She's very friendly and I would definitely recommend. (Plus her hatred of the Hobbit movies gives me life, honestly)
Great prof!! Going to her classes is a lot of help as she explains everything in detail and they are never boring. She's a fair marker and the workload is very fair. Her notes are posted online but going to class would be much more helpful. Would definitely recommend her for ENGL 1080!!
I loved Hann! Excellent prof, I had her for 1080 and then again for 1110. She was definitely one of of my favourite profs in my first year. She can ramble sometimes, but does get to the point eventually. She is very approachable outside of class and makes it very clear exactly what she expects from students. She's also hilarious! Highly recommend.
Dr. Hann is hillarious. She may go off on some tangents but generally reverts back to the point. She's a fair grader and is willing to help you whatever way she can. If you have the opportunity to take her class, DO IT! She's a great prof overall!
Dr. Hann is a great professor! She knows what she's talking about, and can sometimes get off topic but it's nice because she isn't drilling information into her student's heads. I found her to be a fair grader, as long as you put in the effort in your assessments. The novels she picked are great too, my childhood favourites actually!
AWFUL.
She replies to high-priority e-mails after a week. She is not that helpful AT ALL.
She inspired me. She is hilarious and very friendly. I'm not a native speaker , so I find it a bit difficult to write essays. She helps me a lot and spends a lot of time explaining stuff to me. I honestly feel that my writing has improved throughout this course and owe this to the feedback she always give me to improve my style.
I heard she was a great prof until I had her. If you like bad comedy and lots of rambling then I suggest her. She gets off topic way too much SO you must really pay attention or you yourself will get lost. Yvonne will talk about one thing one minute and then she's going on about something so irrelevant to the topic next minute.
Gets off topic a lot during lectures, not boring just not super relevant. Also, only one book was required for this class and not too much reading. We only did short stories, quick to read.
Boring off topic lectures. Don't take her hour and fifteen classes it is actually hell. If you don't know every single use of the comma you're not going to get an A. she's unclear in what she wants from you writing wise, you will not get anything close to the grades you received in high school english.
Lectures cover the entirety of the books we study, and she repeats key points a lot and puts in additional information that help with understanding the texts. It's definitely worth going to class, as she tells more information than she outs online.
Dr. Hann is honestly a phenomenal prof! If you pay attention, does what she asks of you and put in the effort then you should be successful. She isn't going to hand out a mark you don't deserve, but makes it easy to be successful. She provides students with amazing feedback! I truly enjoyed her lectures and all the stories she shared with us! 10/10
You can skip class, but if you don't like to read go to class and she'll do the reading. Gives great feedback, talks a lot during class and goes off topic trying to make a point but she keeps it funny. A bit dull, but easy to pass.
Yvonne is a very kind person who is very knowledgeable. However, during lectures she will often go off on completely irrelevant tangents that waste much of the lecture time and can be quite boring. On the up side she is a very fair grader.
She's an absolutely amazing professor! She does often go off on tangents however they are always related to the course material. She assigns very little reading compared to other professors in 1090.... I would FULLY recommend her (and already have)
Yvonne Hann was my favourite prof for my first semester at MUN. She is very understanding and reasonable and quite the laugh at class. This course is very easy to comprehend and she will tell you exactly what she expects from your work. Overall a great prof and great course, would highly recommend.
Really Great
If you're like me and for whatever reason, you do bad with those who are considered easier graders and do well with the hard marks then Yvonne is not for you. I Was receiving 85+ on everything from an hard marker last term and with her i could barely scrap a 70 going into my final. All she ever wrote was "this is solid" no feedback on my work.
Awesome professor! Very funny and caring. It was just a few short stories and she gives really good lectures to take notes for based off of them in class. She was a fair grader but feedback was very minimal. She also gives you many chances to improve your mark throughout the semester.
If you don't want to do the reading she is the professor for you, but she also extremely vague in feedback and once you've gotten one mark in her class, that's as high as you'll get for the rest of the semester. Wasn't terrible, but wouldn't recommend.
Best professor I had in my first semester. Makes jokes a lot and makes the class more vibrant and fun. I went to her before passing in any essay and she read it over and helped fix what I needed to fix and gave great feedback. I did great on all of my essays because of this. I would recommend her to anyone.
She's fairly good. Lectures are really in-depth and she has a good sense of humor. That being said, she is tough on marking and grading. An approachable prof, would give 4 out of 5.
She's fairly good. Lectures are really in-depth and she has a good sense of humor. That being said, she is tough on marking and grading.
Solid choice.
Iv'e taken Yvonne's class multiple times and i highly suggest her as your prof! She keeps the material retable with her own experiences, which is not only easy to remember but extremely funny. 10/10 would take her again!
Is a great prof. Posts study notes and discusses novels in class. Grades fairly and places importance on comma usage. Assigns a graded outline before in-class exams that you can take into exams. If you go to class and use her feedback you will do well. Very willing to help.
Took this class hoping it would be enjoyable but the lack of communication, nonexistent grading rubrics, extensive reading, redundant focus on commas, hard to read comments on your returned work, highly in-depth personal stories that do not always connect to the curriculum as well as the dry retelling of the assigned texts, proved otherwise.
Great prof. Is clear with her expectations and gives feedback. Willing to help before an assignment is due and if you put in effort you can get a good grade. Highly recommend.
Professor Hann is a solid choice for a prof. She covers interesting material and is pretty funny. Sometimes the feedback she gives is not very helpful, usually only a couple words, and she is a bit picky on writing tools like commas. Overall though I had a great time with her as my prof for this class! She is a smart lady with tons of anecdotes.
Its the worst class ever. DONOT REGISTER WITH HER. I might repeat the class just because of that!
The worst prof I've had at MUN. Very rude and contradicts herself in feedback. The course is not easy and there are a lot of books to read and papers to write, which is fine, but it could have been far more bearable if it was taught by someone who actually cares about students at all.
her course was ok however her grading was all over the place.
Dr. Hann provides excellent feedback. As long as you read the material and follow direction given it should be no trouble to succeed in her class. Would highly recommend.
She didnt use a rubric. She was not helpful when asked for assistance and sent videos on how to use a comma instead of helping. If you have a comma mistake you can lose 5 percent per mistake, if you are missing one or need one. Would not recommend. Grading is unclear and appears random.
Her English course is NOT easy. She is very particular with everything, even when I tried my hardest to take her advice she still didn't like it. Random off-topic rants during class that are sometimes misinformed. She often seemed annoyed when teaching and did not come off nice at all. Do not reccomend.
Professor Hann was a great teacher. Her lectures would deeply explain the reading material and she was quite humorous. She is really tough on grading mechanical errors In your writing but always gives good feedback on the outlines so that you do well on the actual paper. I would definitely take her again
Dr. Yvonne Hann is a great prof. She is very lecture heavy but does a great job explaining stories and themes. She does recommend purchasing a textbook, however when I took her class she posted study notes for most stories, and the majority of the short stories we studied could be found online. I would take her class again if I had the chance.
Worst English class I have ever taken. If all you want is to pass with minimal effort, this wouldn't be the worst option. If you actually want to learn anything or improve... avoid at all costs. She doesn't use a rubric, harps on commas above all, and gives no useful feedback. Her lectures are rambling, off-topic, and surface level.
She’s very sweet and kind person. There is a lot of small books to read in this course, but she gave lots of time to read them. She went over each text is great detail, and explained everything. She has study notes on each topic which are very helpful, and gives great feedback. However, she’s very picky on grammar.
Prof. Hann marks arbitrarily, doesn't state her expectations, and her lectures are unhinged rambles about her personal life. She's rude, debates random topics in class, and her choice to make students read Rowling is in poor taste. Despite finishing with an A, I learned nothing from her. She provides surface-level commentary on children's books.
She doesn't state her expectations, and her lectures are unhinged rambles about her personal life. She's rude and debates random topics in class. I learned nothing from her. She provides surface-level commentary on children's books and does not provide clear expectations. Good if you simply want easy marks and no learning
Dr. Hann is a radical leftist who's main goal is not to teach English literature, but rather push her political opinions on her students. She expresses extreme ideologies which should never be mentioned in a workplace/teaching setting. Dr. Hann is severely unprofessional and always rambles about her personal life and her life's stories.
Hann is a pretty good professor. I recommend going to her lectures because she explains the readings in great detail that will be useful in your essays. She gives a lot of feedback on essays and highly recommends to use her feedback. She can sometimes ramble about her life situations but it doesn't last very long.
She is good but you have to strictly user her ideas only then she will grade you well. Some things in the course is a forced ideology down your throat. She said she never got A in her life so no student deserves to get an A in English.
Took this course as an elective. If english isn't going to be your major this class is great bc you'll get an easy grade if you just attend the lectures and read specific parts of the books (a lot are well known so you should have a copy at your home). Lectures are super boring and not even helpful in getting good grades on the in class essays.
Professor Hann sometimes comes off as rude but it is fairly easy to pass the course. Just don't expect an A unless you are willing to spend hours of your day learning "proper comma usage".
Lectures were very boring because she spends half the class talking about her life stories. Very few material was covered in class. Expects essays to be written in very specific ways so be sure to attend class. However, the presentation at the end was very fun as she actively engaged in discussion. Lenient with deadlines.
Great Prof. Dr.Hann is very helpful and posts things such as sample essays/outlines and her own study notes on her Brightspace to aid students with their work. She also discusses key points that students should include in their projects during her lectures so I would highly recommend going to her classes.
Struggled in this course, Yvonne herself was so funny and sweet but i found the course difficult. If you come from a small town with not great high school education you will struggle (as i did).
This professor was very clear as to what she was looking for in our essays. She gave lots of feedback and my grades got significantly better over time. Yvonne's lectures were great, she was funny and interesting to listen to while also giving the proper information that we needed to succeed. I highly recommend this professor.
Unprofessional. She discusses topics irrelevant to the course for the entirety of class. I found her lectures weren't rewarding to attend as I didn't learn anything from them and she doesn't shy away from controversial topics. Overall, there are definitely better, more rewarding English classes to take instead of ones she teaches.
Spent 30 minutes talking about how attractive Keanu Reeves and Chris Hemsworth was instead of talking about gender roles. Stay away from this professor.
I would avoid Yvonne. She is a nice professor, but the lectures are barely related to English. She spends an hour and 15 minutes covering topics unrelated to our assignments. If you didn't know it was an English class, you'd swear it was either Gender Studies, or Politics. Both are equally interesting, but are not English at all.
Ignore what anyone has to say about ENG 1090, let's be real. If you're here because you're forced to earn credits for ENG 1090, take this teacher. In my first year, I kept dropping courses because I was forced to read 5-6 novels. She assigns short stories, literally 2-3 pages long. This is a light course load designed for people seeking credits.
Yvonne was definitely one of the best profs I've had (I had her for 1090 and 1110). She tells you what she expects, and I found everything was outlined in her course perfectly. I would recommend her class to anyone!
As someone who came from a very small school and has learning disabilities, I did not expect to do remotely good in this course. Although I found my self getting mostly 70's. For cons she can be very off topic and just talk about her life. If you are taking this course because you have to I recommend Yvonne.
Professor Hann's ENG1090 class is straightforward if you engage with the material. The lectures can be hit-or-miss, but her feedback is helpful. unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the textbook and class notes.
The lectures are absolutely pointless. Goes off topic during lectures 99% of the time. Talks about herself and irrelvant topics during class time. The highest grade she gives is 85 because "nobody is perfect." Makes pointless political remarks and is overall a negative person in an educational light. Dont waste your time taking her class.
This diva has the amazing ability to go on a tangent on completely unrelated topics for the majority of her class and somehow she always remembers what her original point was and is always able to circle back. Her lectures were funny not because she taught the material well rather what she discussed was so far out for an academic setting.
If you are looking for an easy semester in English 1090 then Dr. Hann is the way to go. Very fair grader, doesn't care about vocabulary that much, and always had fine lectures. Two things to mention is she does care a lot about proper comma usage (which can lead to many points taken off), and her lectures can very quickly turn into story time.
Definitely an oversharer but that's alright. Yvonne is hilarious and cares about her students. Very fast responder when it comes to emails. All around W teacher but be prepared to have your grammar checked big time.
you will not learn anything that is a promise. although it will be an easy pass
Gave great feedback, could always email to make sure you understood asdignments
She never gives 100%, no matter how good your papers are. I got my final edited by her, and she said it was exactly what she was looking for, and yet I did not receive a grade higher than 80%. Her feedback can be complicated to understand, and she doesn't seem to know what she wants when she grades. She talks a lot about personal stories in class.
Dr Hann's class is overall an easy course. She likes to tell stories about herself in class, and often goes off track. There isnt a lot of reading, but there were 2 inclasses during the class. If you need an easy course for credit, take this course.
If you want an easy pass this is for you, but don't expect to get more than 80 on anything without perfect grammar(mainly commas) as she consistently took off ~10% from each assignment for one or two comma errors. Her lectures give you all the information needed to write a paper that she likes - but again, it's a struggle to get an A in her class
Her lectures are often hard to listen to, most of the time she's just reading. Grading is tough, she loves punctuation. There would be times that marks are coming off from who knows where but overall I thought she marked pretty fairly when you got to know her grading scheme. Don't be intimidated to go see her, she will provide help if you need it.
