She is very flighty and is difficult to keep up with. Also difficult to understand what she expects from her students. But she is not unfair with her grades. Show her your work, especially before it's due, and she'll be fair and generous.

Definitely flighty, but sweet, and easy to talk to. She sort of dances around her expectations, and keeps things open-ended, but I found her grading to be incredibly generous.

She is easy..for ENG 102. I worked less than I did in ENG 101.

I enjoyed myself so much in her 101 class that I decided to take 102 with her too. She's very nice and approachable, and even though she is a bit flighty it doesn't take anything away from her teaching ability, and in fact, even adds to her approachability.

Very passionate teacher! She loves what she teaches! Can be hard to follow because she is in her own world sometimes but she's always willing to clarify. Extremely fair teacher! Always willing to make reasonable exceptions. Very open minded! You'll learn a lot from here but won't be overworked!

Makes it very clear what she expects in a paper. More assignments than other teachers but that's good if you want to learn paper-writing skills for the future. Partial to themes of murder and mystery, etc.

Entertaining! She cares about her subject and is willing to work with you. I never had anything below an A in either class and it had been 8 years since my last English class. And that was 8th grade english!

SHE LOVES POETRY! So you will learn to love it too! I recommend taking her poetry theory class for a humanities because she is so passionate and informitive.

great teacher! halarious, and totally in her own world, but i love her passion about what she teaches. she is clear, and always happy, and i enjoy my first semester here so much more because of her! grades fairly, and i do have to work pretty hard for her class, but the work is worth the grade.

I love Ms. Rutland! She added so much pizzaz (sp?) to what could easily have been a dull class. We covered very modern subjects but were given leeway to follow our own interests in our writing. Her feedback was highly constructive. Take her class!

I was in Rutlands honors class, and it was cake. I am not a good writer, but still recieved As. We only wrote 2 big papers, and a few small article reviews. Final paper was on pulp fiction!! She is awesome.

Good teacher even though she seemed crazy at times! Easy class. ALOT of essays, but what English classes doesn't? Easy grader and lets you do a revision an all work!

She is ok: First of all, we watched movies, and they were either the most boring movies I have seen or "R" rated movies. We would then have to write our oppinion on the movie... Secondly, we learned Rehtoric style, and that's it. But, she does have other movies to watch if you don't do R. She also grades your paps and lets you fix them...

Rutland is the best English teacher at MCC. She is encouraging and the assignments are easy! Highly recomended.

She is nice and really helpful. You turn in a paper and she gives it back to you to revise and correct it as many times you want until you get the grade you want on it. Its in easy class. Oh and the papers are on movies you watch during class so basically most the class is based on watching movies lol. I enjoyed taking her class.

yvonne is such a hippie, it's awesome! haha everything you turn in, you get a chance to hand it back in with revisions for a higher grade. she can be a bit confusing, and she's a little disheveled...but she means well. very considerated to the class's needs. this class is ALL about Huck Finn...so if you don't like the book, don't take it!

Fun easy teacher, a bit crazy but overall very awesome. she might not explain everything to well but you can easily get by if you talk to her and work things out easily, Alot of good movies are also watched in class

Good teacher who is generous about assignment load. But, she can be strange at times so don't let that be a negative factor in enjoying class. If you turn in assignments *ON* time, all is ok and easy to ace. Class involves movie watching including R rated films. She offers alternatives to R for prudent students.

I wish I could take her 102 class. Yvonne was one of the better English teachers I've had. She allows for revisions on every paper and offers help when needed. She actually made an English class interesting. Oh, and the movies are a nice break. Overall: Recommend.

A great teacher! Always cracking jokes, that are actually funny! The whole class is about Huck Finn and you have to write a 12 page research paper about it in the end, but its not that bad because you get the whole semester to do it. If your a really bad procrastinator, don't take this class. But I am and i'm doing fine. Just kick it in gear!!

Words cannot describe the mixed emotions I felt after I escaped from this class. The work you do is ridiculously easy, but she is so disorganized that trying to decipher what she writes on the white board is like trying to hunt for Atlantis. However there is only one test, there is NO way anyone would fail 'cause she throws out extra credit 24/7

Really nice and sweet lady, but repeates herself all the time, class was easy. gives hardly any homework, only thing we have done this whole class is write papers on movies(which we watch in class). If you get a bad grade in this class, you are an idiot. She gives a really long time for you to write easy papers, do the 5 papers thats it.easy class.

If I could make every teacher like yvonne I would! She is an awesome teacher with endless knowlege of her teachings. Not only did I pass her classes with A's but I actually learned a lot. She's a really nice person who is willing to teach.

First off, this summer session class I took was entirely about Conrad's Heart of Darkness. As a teacher, Yvonne was pretty cool, but dear god, whatever was she thinking when she chose that piece of garbage as the sole source of material for an entire semester? If she's teaching Conrad, drop the class ASAP, unless you like boat rides in Africa...

There really isn't much to say. Yvonne is a good teacher. I had her for Eng 101 and 102. You'll love her and her teaching and she's very helpful when you ask her questions.

I took ENG 102 (Summer) & it was a good class! Well the 8 pg Research Paper final was a Tad Stressful (but it's built from sources anyway). I got an A so definitely possible. Overall, Yvonne is a great teacher! She answers the student's questions, offers many revisions & extra credit. She made that dinky book Heart of Darkness interesting :)

Great Teacher..I took it in the Summer and offered lots of extra credit and in the five weeks I was there we watched 4 MOVIES! a little on the crazy side but made me laugh quite a bit! great overall teacher!

This class was a very easy A. Yvonne expects college level work from her students but the amount of work she expects is almost non-existent. The entire course is based on your research paper, which is on the same topic, for everyone. I must have done a total of 3 assignments that required any effort from me. Be warned: she cancels class A LOT.

I took her class for Honors English 101. Fantastic class! Sure, we did writing, and she does expect you to actually TRY in your papers, but the book isn't her gospel and she loves to show relevant movies. We watched Pulp Fiction and Night of the Iguana, among other things. Very reasonable and approachable. Passed the class easily, and had fun, too.

I loved her Honors 101 class, so I signed up for her Honors 102 class the next semester. I thought it odd when I picked up the book at the bookstore and it was the story of and collection of essays relating to Huckleberry Fin. Couldn't be that bad, right? The whole semester was nonstop Huck Finn. I dropped out. But, if you like Huck Finn...

Had her for honors english 101 and 102. For 101, she was a typical english teacher with a bit of insanity on the side, for 102, she'd just tell us not to come to class for weeks on end. It was awesome. She's probably the best English teacher I've ever had, but beware, she is absolutely insane. If you're okay with that, you'll do well in this class.

Yvonne is crazy but cool. She cancels class A LOT but we didnt do much o/t watch old horror flicks in class.. She is really funny and understanding she never sticks to her due dates and we actually ended up cancelling one of our essays. Sometimes its hard to figure out what she wants but you get it eventually. She makes everything really easy.

I had her for honors. I only got B+ on all of my essays, but got an A in the class (DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!). She knows what she's doing and enjoys it a lot. If you listen to her and her lectures, you can pick up a lot of clues about what you need in your essays. Completely literate about her subject and very fun class! CANCELS CLASS OFTEN

Great teacher prior from my last horrible english teacher. She was always willing to help. I highly recommend taking her class its so chill and you even get to watch pulp fiction.

A very sweet woman. Assignments not always clear, but always willing to re-explain and clarify what she expects from students. Often changes due dates, but always to the advantage of her students. Do all the work; no matter how easy, don't brush it off. She often allows you to re-do you assignment if you aren't happy. Always take this chance!

Ms. Rutland is very down to earth Funny, and just plain real. She won't hesitate to help you if you ask. While she demands quality from her students, she also is fair to those who work with her.

I actually liked Rutland. Had her for honors and thought it was pretty painless. You do 3 papers which she lets you revise, gives you extra credit opportunities, you watch a lot of movies, do group work and debate a lot. As long as you do the work and though in your opinion you'll do fine. The class ended 3 weeks early and I ended with an A

Ms. Rutland was an amazing teacher! I am only a sophomore in high school, and decided to start college early, so this was my first class. It was a great experience and I had fun. She was very helpful and always answered questions. She would also joke around to make the class interesting, and was a very sweet woman. I highly recommend this teacher.

A fun, interesting, upbeat, and entertaining teacher! She always shows up to class in skinny jeans and converse. She loves what she does but is a little scatter brained. She sometimes forgot that she assigned us work and turned most of our essays into extra credit. 4 essays and a take home test. There was a little bit of class work but not much. We watched movies for every movie and that what we based our essays on. We never even opened out text books so don't buy it.

Great teacher! She is a bit hard to keep track of and a bit hard on grading, but provides tons of help. Loved this teacher!!

So eccentric and sweet. If you're having problems with the course, you can talk to her and she is very understanding/willing to help out in any way. She even let me turn in a paper a week after class was over due to personal issues so I wouldn't fail and ended up with an A+. Can't wait to have her again for 102!

I took her 102 class Lit based on Huck Finn. At first, I didn't know what I had gotten myself into but she is a delight! Allows her students to revise papers to earn a better grade and loves to build a great teacher-student relationship with all. I would definitely recommend her because she makes a crazy day seem so stress-free in her classroom!

Darling. Delight. Helpful. We wrote essays based on movies, interesting ones too. You can work alone, in groups or she'll help you. Lots of advice and revisions and extra credit, although if you just try a little bit you won't need it. She's very funny, understanding and will remember you.

You just come to class and pretty much sit there, do whatever you want. I swear she is so chill about everything. The only thing you need to do is complete the essays and a few side works. As long as you get the essays done, you can do whatever you want, don't even have to come if you don't wanna.

Such a fun class! She is encouraging and goes above and beyond to make sure each person that asks for help gets it. She welcomes suggestions and helping to teach other students. I enjoyed watching the movies, she gives a lot of insight and taught me how to analyze and annotate by just being herself ((:

Amazing teacher, great and fun. I loved learning the intext citation from her. Very helpful. She helped my writting out quite a bit. She mad this class insanely fun. Although we did watch of movie I was happy with the repetativeness of our exercises. She drills everything in your head and it really works. I am happy to have had her in Eng 101

She's a fun professor to have .There are times where she's strict.There papers are challenging to write because of their complexity. Overall she's SUPER sweet and i promise she will make you laugh.

Entire class is based on Huck Finn, read it before you enroll to decide. I took it as a summer course, so it was crammed. She's nice and helpful, but her expectations are unclear. I didn't know what to expect turning in my research paper. Definitely not my favorite class. I learned about Huck Finn, education, history, etc. It is a lot of work.

Her English class was a bit different than usual. She hardly taught class but instead we watch 5 movies through the semester and wrote papers on 3 of them. If you struggle with writing you might have difficulty in this class. She teaches important components to writing but no really how to write. She will help you but usually during office hours

Mrs. Rutland is absolutely amazing! I took Eng 101 and 102 with her and if I had another English class to take it would be her as my teacher. She is very down to earth and makes it fun. If you love to watch movies take her 101 class. Her 102 class is no joke though, she really means business in that class.

101 class was very simple- watching movies and writing essays about the movies. Group work in class after every movie which is just participation points

You need to attend the lectures at the beginning of the semester, she gives out a lot of really good information on what exactly she wants in your papers. It's not very clear in the paper materials she hands out, so getting the information from the lecture was crucial. I learned a lot from her. There are a lot of "working" classes that are not req.

Great teacher! Tells you exactly what she wants, if you need help she takes the time to help you and look over all of your work. Great sense of humor, and give a lot of extra credit.

I took her ENG 101 class over the summer, so we only had to do 2 essays. A third is available to do however and shed drop your lowest grade one. I was an ok writer going in, but i did Ok. Your graded on only papers, take home test and class participation.

Loved this class! She truly knows her stuff and makes class enjoyable with her sense of humor. Watched movies, wrote a couple of essays. She allows you to write a third essay and drops your lowest grade. She is fair in her grading and attentive. I will definitely be taking her again. We need more teachers like her! An intelligent lady with a vibrant personality and fine sense of humor, she often makes interesting asides. Her class is never dull. She also does a good job going over the material in a way that helps prepare students for the essays. I can tell she put plenty of thought into the most effective and interesting way to get across her material.
