he doesnt look like he enjoy teaching for some reason. i had him for hist 101 and i dropped after the 4th week. his class is more about writing than history so if your a great writer you'll pass if you suck at it like me good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Cuddy came in after our previous teacher had to leave. He was pretty clear on what he wanted and made the class easier to understand, lots of note taking and super mandatory attendance, overall a good class and a good professor
Very good professor. Easy to understand. His class does require a lot of essays, so you better be a good writer!!. Don't expect the class to be easy, but if you study the chapter study guides, the quizzes are very easy! I got an A, so I would take him again.
Awesome teacher. So interesting and lots of extra credit
I took prof. Cuddy for American Civ I and II. Just 3 essays and 1 big research paper. His exams are mostly essays so its not a lot of memorization. He's a journalism major so better do a good job on the essays. He's always ready to lend a helping hand if you need one. Overall, he's good for a new teacher and he's more like a friend than a teacher.
attendance is mandatory. do NOT be late because he'll mark off points! AWESOME professor if you actually want to learn history. do NOT be intimidated by the workload at first! he pretty much tells you what's on the midterm and final. use his study guides for the quizzes (quizzes are open notes). overall interesting class and great teacher.
Really good teacher. Very open minded. Makes class get into different groups. Was a fast track class. Went fast so you have to keep up with the reading and there is some essay writing.Great class.
Great teacher! He tries his best to help his students do well. He gives a lot of assignments and consider the reading an assignment because he will quiz you on it when you least expect it. He isn't a very hard grader, especially when it comes to essays. If it weren't for all the 20 out of 20s I got on the essays, I wouldn't have gotten a B.
Prof Cuddy is one of the best professors I have had!! Very passionate about teaching and very intelligent. Do the ch study guides, you can use them for his weekly quizzes! A few 2-3 pg papers and one research paper!! Offers LOTS of extra credit!! I got an A in the class because of how awesome an easy the class was!! Thanks Cuddy!!
A little too strict with grading and attendance. I thought his lesson plans could've been more organized. He basicaly just reads off the prompts. Some things he did were helpful with teaching, but that was very rare.
He's not organized. He's still playing the field on what works and what doesn't when it comes to teaching. Just reads off prompts, which are not helpful to students. He can be mean at times, so watch it!!
He makes you read like 30 + pages from two different books. Unless you love to read and actually have time to read to that extent, then go for it. So far, that's my only pet peeve with his class.
I definitely recommend taking this class. You get quizzes every other class meeting but it's open notes. You do have to write a couple of small essays and one big report, but he'll help you out and gives you a chance to rewrite it. He also does a lot of group work so know your neighbors. Actually looking forward to taking Hist 101 with him.
I took his online HIST141 class. The class was easy, there is a lot or reading assigned for it, there are one or two discussion boards per week, no other homework, tests are ok. I would recommend this online section as you have the whole week to complete your assingments and there are also several extra credit opportunities.
if you are lazy... FORGET IT! he is not the right professor for you. This class is work, you definetly earn your grade. He is helpful and knows a ton, he is cute too so that helps. He offers x-tra credit too, so take advantage of that. Overall I really enjoyed his class, probably my favorite thus far at SWC.
I just don't like him. What can I say. Try someone else!
if you do your work you can get an A, keeps it interesting and Hott!! And offers extra credit!!
eventhough it was history 101 this class was no joke. hardly any tests just a lot of papers i'd say 5-6 in the semster, exprect a quiz every week. if you pay attention to the lecture and do all the assignments you're good. also took attnedants EVERY class.
GREAT instructor. Attendance is mandatory and he doesn't mess around. but if you do the work, you're set. he makes his policies VERY clear from day one. follow his policies and you're set. he's also funny, and definitely good looking, which makes his lectures even more interesting! definitely recommend.
great class, hands down. He makes it very interesting and challenges you which you dont expect from a history class. really enjoyed it, worth taking. However, if your lazy it's not for you. You do have to read, study and write a lot!! my vote for best teacher!
Profs. Cuddy, an awesome Profs. Take notes lets u use them on the quiz. Lots of reading, powerpoints are very helpful. His test has essay questions. What he teaches are on the test. He allows group discussions & role plays. Enjoyed his class. He will help you with essays so turn the paper in on time he will make corrects & allow u to fix it.
Didnt really care for this teacher. He was very rude and he could care less about his students all he cares about is the essays he makes you write and his quizes are pointless!! I just didnt feel like he was the history teacher for me. If you are a audio learner hes the teacher for you! He always makes you watch pointless old movies
Make sure you send your essays on time. He has no consideration for late papers you get downgrated right away.
He is a great professor,a lot of open note quizzes (very easy) 3 essays, one research, fairly easy. Midterm and finals difficult because you have to know it. Ex: final 3 essays and multiple choice questions. Sounds crazy but I have taken him more than once and aced them, he prepares you well, come out a history buff. Very worth it,Easy A if willing
Cool class and cool guy! He made lectures very interesting and was willing to help you when you needed it. Lots of work though, so if you're a slacker you're going to have a bad time. We wrote a few essays and had a quiz every week. He's sometimes a hard grader, but offers extra credit if you mess up.
He's really the coolest teacher. In addition to being completely awesome he's super helpful. Attending class is important but he makes it fun. As long as you're not lazy you'll do good. He let's you bring study guides for the quizzes. Don't turn things in late, even if you email it. He will answer any questions you have. And he's adorably cute!
Cuddy was the best instructor I've ever had at SWC. His lectures are direct and to the point. He asks questions that really make the subject interesting. There are several quizzes, but all of the answers are directly on the reading. If you do the reading, the exams are cake. I hated history and my prior history teacher, but I got an A in his class
Mr. Cuddy was an excellent teacher. I wish he taught more classes. He makes you want to learn and makes the class fun. He interacts with students and makes history actually exciting. I look forward to taking more of his classes. I would recommend him to all, just do the assignments as laid out and follow his lectures and you'll get an A.
Great teacher! He was funny and nice, was very clear about assignments. It takes some work but he gives study guides and the essays are what would be expected. Good lecturer. Need two books for this class.
Prof is very clear w/what he expects. If you dont want to write papers, what are you doing in college. The papers are not hard to write and are listed on the syllabus.Fill out the chapter review for the quizzes and youll know the material.Front-loaded class, which is nice bc u don't hv to worry about this class whn others are hectic@end of semester.
Professor Cuddy is knowledgable, I enjoyed the class! He is completely clear of his expectations. The class does narrow down in size as the semester goes on. Students seem to drop like flies when they find out that he actually expects students to complete assigned assignments. I enjoyed the challenge. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Good class. Lecture every class meeting with occasional group and partner work. YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS CLASS IF YOU DO NOT READ! There are WEEKLY quizzes but you can use your study guide that he provides. So, unless you read and do the study guides, YOU WILL NOT PASS! Other than that, grading criteria is simple and plenty of extra credit!
Professor Cuddy is a really cool professor. Though, his class does require multiple writing assignments and plenty of reading, he is extremely helpful and clear about what he wants. You get a study guide for each quiz and numerous extra credit opportunities. He really gives you a chance to do your best.
Professor Cuddy is a passionate instructor. He is very knowledgeable and is always willing to help students. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities to improve your grade.
Weekly quizzes are based on the assigned chapter of the textbook, so you MUST read! But they are open note, so that is very easy. Quizzes help your grade, and there are two exams and a few writing assignments.
Professor Cuddy is extremely professional, passionate, and knowledgeable on the subject matter of history. His lectures were like having a live documentary reel in front of me; full of pertinent and exciting information which depicted a clear unbiased view of history. A tremendous asset to the History department at SWC. A true Inspirational Leader
I took him over the summer. He's an excellent professor. We had easy weekly reading assignments which the weekly quizzes were based off of. All open-note quizzes! He gives a study guide for every exam and it's very clear what students should study to get an A. Overall he was well organized and entertaining which made the class enjoyable. Recommend
Class is pretty straight forward, you know what to expect in the class after the first week. Same routine lecture and quiz wise, chapter quizzes each week. Must attend class
This class does require some reading. There's a quiz every week, but he let's you use a study guide while taking it. It's an interesting class if you actually like this subject.
He is great teacher and is very helpful and has great easy lectures. But be ready to have homework everyday if you are taking this class for 4 weeks (January session) you have a quiz almost everyday sometimes two a day. And the research paper will be hard not going to lie this class was very stressful and he said the last week is Hell week(true!!!)
Mr Cuddy is a great history professor. I usually hate history classes but he made it interesting and easy to understand . There's a lot of extra-credit opportunities. Homework every day ,but that's because i took the short semester. Great teacher would take his class again.
Z. Cuddy is a great History teacher, especially if history isn't your strongest subject. After this class, I learned so many genuinely interesting things about the first part of American civilization. I looked forward to reading the assignments because they gave a perspective that history classes usually don't offer. & His lectures aren't boring.
You can tell he knows his stuff, so he's really willing and able to answer any questions you might have throughout the course. Yes, there is reading involved, because it's history! The good thing is, it's all really interesting so it makes the homework easy. Yeah there are quizzes, but he lets you use your homework. He doesn't set you up to fail.
Professor Cuddy is an amazing lecturer. He is descriptive and knows his history. If you trully want to learn history take his courses. He does require 2 short essays and a research paper. If you follow his guidelines your grade should be fine. He gives plenty of extra credit and you can use your chapter review notes for quizzes. He is also funny.
Cuddy is a wonderful professor. Make sure to so your work and maybe even participate in class so it won't be that boring. He will grade you accurately, but he does give extra credit, and he is a great professor. Pretty cool dude, you can actually have a conversation with him as a friend. But he is definitively not an easy A.
This class was a lot of work, but definetly worth it. I learned a lot in his class and he's very understanding if personal issues arise. Do every extra credit he offers it's the only reason I got an A. The midterm and final are both hard and you're quizzed often though it's open note which is cool. You also write abunch of papers but they're easy.
Cuddy is a good professor, can be a tough grader but gives you plenty of opportunities to pass his class. If you skip class you wil not pass. Have a quiz almost every day which is super important since it'll add up at the end of the semester. Not a lot of homework and tough grader when it comes to test and papers.
Hardest teacher ever!
Best professor ever! Makes history fun and interesting. Easy A if you show up and do the work. There's a lot of work but you will actually learn. Exams are pretty easy if you pay attention in class and do the readings. Will definitely take him again for other history class!
Cuddy is awesome! He is a tough grader but he makes the class really interesting. One quiz per week, 2 short papers and a final paper about the Founding Fathers. A midterm and the final exam are long but easy if you take your time to study (from the readings and the quizzes). He gives a lot of extra-credit, so there is no excuse if you not pass.
Worst teacher Ever!!!!! doesn't know how to grade! doesn't know how to teach!
He is a tough Professor but he makes it very easy to understand the material and is straightforward. He likes to keep the class involved and there are a lot of tests but honestly it really helps you remember the material. I reccomend him 100%.
My first semester of college I took Cuddy, I'm strong in history but this class was a breeze. Simply read the textbook and answer the study guide questions and you're good to go. There's 3 papers due and a quiz every class that you're allowed to use your study guide notes for. If you're having trouble with a paper ask him and he will help!
Gives weekly quizzes on assigned reading, gives you questions in advance in a study guide. Has a sense of humor. Lots of class participation.
Lots of reading, yet open-note quizzes every week. One big research paper. Lots of extra-credit to take advantage of. Easily the best history teacher at Southwestern.
Every week you have a reading Quiz on the previous chapter, they are all open notes. He is a horrible grader and he grades as if he wishes he as in English teacher. He has a decent amount of Extra Credit. He gives the essay test questions about a week ahead of time.
Amazing Teacher !!! 5 question Quizzes every Monday, get in the routine and you'll be fine. Do the Work and you'll have not problems study alittle before midterm/final. Good lectures, mostly powerpoint, very funny at time but you need his sense of humor to truly enjoy! Also he is a Dj will be taking his class again next semester!!
Professor Cuddy definitely cares about how much students retain all information given. Expect to write a lot of essays but he gives you the option to redeem yourself a with a rewrite. I was never a major history buff it was never something that intrigued me yet how involved Cuddy got into his lectures I really enjoyed it.
professor cuddy is one of the greatest professors ive had. history is my least favorite subject but cuddy made it so easy to understand. all the assignments he gives us really prepares us for the midterm and final so its pretty easy to get a good grade on the tests. also theres many extra credit opportunities
Cuddy is amazing I would have him as a professor again if I could. Im not very good at history but hes a very good teacher so that really helped me accel in the class. The quizzes are easy if you read the chapter and do the notes. There are essays but they are easy to understand and do and there are rewrites if you get a low grade.
Took his History 100 and History 104! He cares deeply for his students, easy A but you must attend class. Only hard part is a research paper which is only 7 pages but he is willing to help you with it! Best professor including history professor I have ever had! He is funny and describes in depth in his lectures! You will not be disappointed!
Do not take this class! had to buy two books only used one and the other used once or twice waste of money. Professor Cuddy is a hard grader and unclear. You can't help friends on homework, the research paper does not make sense at all and is very difficult to write! don't do it.
He is a great teacher! pretty fun class, be prepare to do homework and read a lot. He grades papers as if its an english class; however, he lets you re-write the essays.
Great professor. However, he is a though grader. He grades papers like an English teacher and cares a lot about grammar, punctuation and also MLA format. Being absent or late drops your grade!!! His exams are heavy. The midterm includes free write questions and two essays with no notes. The final is also the same but with 3 essays.
Engaging in class and doing homework helps in the long-run. Good teacher and fair grader.
He cares a lot about grammar and the midterm and final can be a bit heavy because you have to do 2 essays and there are questions of short answers. However, it is easy because he gives you the study guide, and as long as you study and prepare your essays, you will do fine.
Great professor, lots of reading, a quiz every week, 3 essays, midterm and final are heavy, fast grader, great lectures.
Lectures are good and there's daily in-class reading/discussion which makes his class less boring and time will go by quick. Lots of work: weekly quizzes, 2 essays, midterm, research paper, final, and EC opportunities. Go to class, pay attention, do all the work early, and you'll get an A. He's a cool professor and cares about his students.
Professor Cuddy provided lots of extra credit opportunities and excellent study guides to make sure everyone succeeded in his course. Definitely a writing heavy course with one quiz every week, but the quizzes are easy as long as you do the homework. Professional and informative learning environment.
I took this class during winter break is washard. It was a four hour class which I was really tired of it already because of the long PowerPoints and he would ask us questions about the lecture in class. He also would only ask questions to the ones in the back not the people in the front which was unfair. There was a quiz almost every class.
Ive taken Cuddy twice once for History 100 & again for History 101. I really enjoy his style of teaching, it is fast paced though. I took his history 100 for a regular semester and I didnt find it too hard and he gives plenty of opportunities to get extra credit. Be prepared to write! History 101 I took accelerated and woooo it was a challenge
Had I done the extra credit, I would have gotten an A-, so that's my fault. Professor Cuddy is a super cool professor, really knows his stuff. He's also makes nice jokes here and there, and although the corona virus made everything online for like half the semester, I really enjoyed his class. I would instantly take him again if I ever needed to.
Very chill about course requirements & offers many opportunities to of extra credit. Tests happen twice, require a good chunk of study time in order to receive an A. No quizzes, but does depend on the two textbooks in order to pass. Homework is relatively easy, just requires more time than preferred.
Took Prof. Cuddy's 4-week course online this Summer two other 4-week courses... Probably why this course was super hard is because I took it with 2 other 4-week courses and history not being my best subject. Had about 3-4 discussion boards with 7-8 questions for each one. Gave constructive criticism on your work so he does care about your work.
Will not recommend this class. He is extremely hard and leaves to much work. I took this class for summer and the amount of work he assigned was insane. He grades like an English professor and cares too much about grammar. For each exam theres a three page essay. Dont get me started on the 7 page research paper.
Summer 2020 class included one short paper, 400+ word discussions due twice a week, two exams: 30-40 multiple choice, 4-5 short answers (1-2 paragraphs each) and 3 essays (2-3 pages each). 6-7 page research paper due at the end of the semester. Extra credit also offered. A lot of work in this class but easy to get an A if you use the textbook.
Very organized class structure. Tons of reading and writing but he gives you EXACTLY what will be on the midterm and final. He has also hosted a few zoom sessions going over some of the exam questions, and there are two extra credit opportunities available at the end of the semester. I hate reading and writing but I still managed to get an A.
Honestly did not like him at all. very hard grader and gives you no time to turn stuff in late. i was on a trip for a week and he told me he would give me a day or two when i got back to turn in work. while on the break he sends me a message saying i must turn in the stuff now even though he said it was ok. DONT TAKE HIM AT ALL
Great professor over all, I've taken 2 semesters with him, you will be reading quite a bit depending on your class speed, I recommend him, but also you got to put in the work.
Awful teacher. Would never take again. He is a History Professor grading like and giving work like an English Professor. He is a strict strict grader and barely gives any breathing room. Oh also there is a 7 page research paper where you cant use basic websites. Worst Professor ever. If i could give him a 0 on here I would.
Weekly discussion boards where you have to write 400-500 words on the chapter of the week. I took an accelerated class so it was 2 chapters per week. There is a 6-8 pg research paper and the midterm/final both have several questions that need paragraph/essay answers, those questions are provided before the test so u should prepare in advance
I took HIST 100 winter intersession with Professor Cuddy. The class itself is quite time consuming and demanding since it's an intersession class, but Professor Cuddy is an outstanding Professor. He is organized, hosts optional zoom meetings, grades assignments right away, and provides good feedback. I highly recommend Professor Cuddy.
Cuddy is a good professor. His classes can be genuinely interesting but you really need to read the book to get a good grade and ace his quizzes. Also, he can be very picky regarding grammar during your papers but you can always do a rewrite and get a better grade. He is very approachable and chill. Overall, a fair professor.
this class was very exhausting, and the prof didnt help with accommodating. very strict w work & very heavy on tests for your grade. class was very hard to follow, and even online, i was struggling to keep up with the amount of work he was putting out.
I just finished his 8 week history 100 class its a lot of work but its great material he actually cares always leaves feedback and grades get back to you quickly. One of the best especially for online teachers I have had.
This was an interesting course. Prof Cuddy offers extra credit that will boost your grade. Most of the grading will come from discussion posts. His essay grading is strange though. Strict on grammar and sources and plagerizing system pretty much will flag you for the smallest details even if you didnt. He understands though. Paraphrasing is a must!
