Very helpful, if you take good notes you will do very well on the exams. Be Warned: All his exams are in essay form. He is a little anal when it comes to grading the essays he assigns you. But over all he really seems to care about the students. I would take him again. Nice guy, great personality.

WoW!!!! This class is SOO easy. He's kinda lazy so when he gives the review package, that's the exam itself. I didn't need the book at all. He's a reallie nice guy, he lets you out an hour earlie, and he's VERY lenient on turning things in. He tries to be funny, so give him a break and laugh with them. HE'S TRYING hahaha.
He is funny not because of his jokes but just the way he says things. He writes notes for you and tells you exactly what is going to be on the test (so there is no surprises). He has a great personality and if he doesn't have an answer to your question he will look for one. I would take his class again.
Hard class, but he will help you through it, gives you chances for a little bit of extra credit, it's ur part to study.. not an easy class, but a great teacher to help you through it all!
easy class, for a student like myself..lazy that is .. just show up and take notes. and all test is essay format, but he gave out the topic , let us leave early at times, great teacher n very helpful.
this class friggin rocks! He is way too nice and he makes the class fun by cracking jokes. He should be a stand up comedian. Best class ever.
excellent teacher. the best!!!!
Who knew using your brain could be so much fun. Seriously, Zack makes something like philosophy totally understandable and he makes the class very interesting. He's one of the best teachers I've had at SAC because he makes you think and he makes it fun. Take him.
He is an amazing teacher! I though I would hate critical thinking but it turned out to be my favorite class all year and opened my eyes to so many things and new ways of thinking. Take his class, you will not regret it!!!
great teacher, really helpfull, only 4 assignments for whole semester...REALLY EASY!!!!! REAL CHILL
very easy teacher, i took him this summer, funny and interesting
good teacher, helpful, and understand students' needs.
ONe word just ( best) teacher i ever had.
He is the most interested instu ever!!! Words can not express how funny and cool his class is. He makes his class soo interesting tat u just don't want to leave. He is the smartest, hotest philosophy teacher ever. So go and take this class its worth you money and time
One of the best professors at SAC. Easy, nice, and teaches the material clearly. We all had fun in his class.
I took phil 110 web class. 3tests, 3writing assignments. maybe he was lazy or had personal problem, we took only 2 tests and 2 writing assignment. And he picked best grade and counted twice. so we had 6 grades for test and writing. not 4. just read what he posted and take test. my writing wasn't good.very easy question!Take Web.i got A at the end
This class was really fun. It was so easy and I didn't even had to use the textbook. He gave us handouts that were pretty self explanatory and I got and A!!! Would recomend Him to take this class!!!
The best Philosophy teacher I ever took. The exams are in essays so everything you need to write down on your exam essays are in your lecture notes. He even provide you with the questions to the exam before hand and goes over the answer the day before so all you have to do is attend class, take down notes, study and memorize the essay and get an
If you're looking for a good time and thought provoking material take Fish! He is one of the best teachers that I've had here at SAC. He is easy going, funny and smart. I think because he is so laid back that the class really does mold his attitude. Be prepared and listen because he tell you everything you need to know for the exams. Great guy
I took the spring intersession course and it was surprisingly stress-free and very interesting and informative. I love this professor...he teaches with lots of clarity and is very fair. Great Class!
I really loved this class... it was very interesting... Devil's Knot is definitely a very good book to read.. Fish is a very good and helpful teacher.
very good teacher. Explains the class very well, what i liked the most was that he gave pre-exams that you could study, so that you have a clue of what will be on the exam. He also has a good personality.
The best teacher I have ever had at S.A.C. He is soo funny and just knows the best way to explain everything in a simple manner. I love Professor Fish!
Maybe he is new to online classes. He got way behind grading. Today, two weeks before the end of the semester, he has graded a total of 3 items. He cut some of the assignments because he got too far behind and showed a movie clip during one of the 5 class meetings so he could grade our essays {one of the three items he graded.}
I really like this professor. Took him in the fall and was reluctant to take him again. But I'm glad I did because I learned a lot. Very nice and very helpful. Class was always interesting and he's very funny too. If you are thinking about taking him, don't think. JUST TAKE HIS class, see for yourself!!!
The best teacher i have ever had in my life. He is willing to give you all the help you need. All you have to do is give some effort. if you cant pass this class you may have other issues
I enrolled in his course for Counceling/Philosophy: Critical Thinking and also in this Phil.: Ethics course this summer of 07! The books for Critical Thinking requires reviewing for an A. He goes over test and gives worksheets similar to the test. He gives excellent notes and is helpful and clear. Read "Blink" and save the summaries!! I got an A
Fish is great. His exams are very easy because he gives a lot of practice exams similar to the tests. You do not have to read the book to get an A in this class. I strongly recommend this professor, but he only teach this class in summer.
Professor Fish is a superb teacher. He gives plenty of practice exams that you take in class and he goes over. By the time the tests come, you know the information. He cracks jokes and keeps class enjoyable and fun. I had the class very early, but I loved going. Best class I've taken in college without a doubt.
He is by far the best professor at SAC... i highly recommend him :)
DO NOT TAKE THE ONLINE CLASS! he never does the grades and is late to post everything. Then he is late to the mandatory classes. Its an easy class (with a pretty gruesome book so beware) and while he is helpful and nice he is sooo boring! He thinks he is so funny, but I couldn't stand to listen to his bad attempts at humor. Easy class/professor
Greatest teacher that I've never seen before. Good lecture, good practice, and easy exams. Do not hesitate to take his class rite away.
No one can be easier and cooler than this teacher. He's awesome and nice. You dont have to study much on Exams because he let you practice a lot in class. I got all tests 100% without hight attempt.
Highly recommended. Great teacher
One of the best professors I have ever taken at SAC. He taught me a lot of material that was easy to understand. Class was never boring and we always got out early. I personally recommend Professor Fish for any Philosophy classes at SAC.
Was a great class, The online was easy and not that hard. He would explain things good and was really funny. The only thing was the grades were never updated quick. If you want an easy class were you are never bored take this class.
2 essays, 2 tests, and a whole bunch of notes! EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EASY PEASY! Professor Fish is a great teacher! Cracks jokes here and there although be warned...some are a little cheesy! Haha class can get a little boring from time to time but that's expected from any class. Seriously, if you want an A, take this class!
SO EASY. its a miracle really. i didnt turn in one of the essays and i missed like 2 summaries and i still got a B! he's incredible nice. he's actually quite funny. i really enjoyed the class, made getting up early worthwhile. TAKE HIS CLASS!! if you get an f then YOU ARE STUPID!!!!!!!
He is in amazing teacher. He is really funny and very helpful. He keeps class interesting. It was one of the easiest classes I've ever had.
He's probably one of the best teachers I've had. The only thing was is that no one in the class was interested in the material, so his jokes and attempts at getting the class involved fell a little short. HOWEVER, since you're interested enough to read up about him, i STRONGLY recommend taking his class.
I have one more week in this class and I'm already missing it. You'll LOVE THIS CLASS. It is so much fun and intereting. YOU LEARN EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO. The only boring thing was reading the same novel for almost the entire semester. The professor is nice and funny. Highly recommended.
I am a philosphy major and have taken three classes with him. He is the 'BEST " professor ever. Thanks to him i got into UCLA and Berkeley. Thanks Prof. Fish P.S IF you dont take him for philosophy you have problems.
OMG! He is so awesome. Class isn't the most exciting thing ever, but you honeslty don'r get bored. He is very comprehending and helps as much as he can and most imposrtantly its is and EASY A CLASS (seriously)! He is very funny and knows how to make student learn easily- he makes his example funny so you can learn them. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!GO FISH!
Great professor w/ great sense of humor. Class reads "Devil's Knot" which is really interesting. A lot of writing but not as difficult as you would think. The exams are all based on lecture and classwork.
Professor Fish is a good teacher. He definetly has a passion for Philosophy which makes you appreciate what he teaches. He assigns a couple 5+ page essays and the final is a lot of writing. He offers an opportunity for extra credit. Overall, the class was fairly easy.
i highly recommend this class!!!its fairly easy and the teach is so funny !!!he made the class fun and there was not one day that i miss that class because he entertain us everyday.hes nice and answers all your questions.class is based mostly on notes and essays. he is funny i recommend him
he is soo good. He makes the class soo fun that we don't even want to get out of class.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER AND EASY! MAKE SURE TO ALL OF HIS CLASSES AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. YOU WILL NEED THEM FOR THE EXAMS. YOU DONT REALLY NEED THE BOOK JUST AS LONG AS YOU TAKE CLEAR NOTES.
great teacher...take him...
Great teacher!! Took the online class and it was great. Met once a month on campus. Did a test review for every test except the last. Open book, open note test. Some writing, but not bad. Only complaint is that he didn't post any grades online and it was hard to know how you were doing. That sucked. Everything else was great!!
I took the Logic class. Class was easy until about 3/4 through the semester when we started learning the 18 rules of inference. That was extremely difficult and requires alot of heavy brainpower.
This class is fairly easy as long as you are ok with not knowing your grade until the end of the semester. If you need to take critical thinking take this class with Mr Fish. You will not regret it
Professor Fish is an amazing Instructor... His class is pretty fair... Yeah you realy don't know how your doing till it gets closer till the end of semester but he is extremely fair... I really love his class and I am thinking of taking him for ethics.. He is definitely worth taking..
Took the online class. Pretty easy does have issues posting grades he doesn't until the end of the semester. The books we read were intense but eye opening. Reviews tests during meetings that are once a month and answers practice tests which some of those Q are on the actual test. Over all good class. Take tests online so all is open book.
Professor Fish is a GREAT teacher. His phiosophy110 class if fairly easy. You do need to study but whatever he teaches is on his tests. This class can get kinda boring at times but at the same time he keeps it funny and interesting. Very nice, and professional man. One of my Favorite teachers for sure. TAKE HIM :]
As easy as it can get for college level matrial. Really nice guy, very helpful. Basically you read a book, and submit weekly summeries for hw. He lectures in class then you do worksheets. Very str8 forward material. You leave early a lot of the time. I enjoyed this class and learnt more than I expected without ever feeling stressed. Take him!
I loved this class. He made religion very interesting that I am taking another class with him in the spring!
He is good teacher, you don't need to read a book before come to class. Take notes and do all the homework he assign you will be sure to get an A...I will take him again in a nother class...Best teacher in Santa Ana..
nice, easy, and hot! :)
He is really good for what he helped the students. His teaching is so wonderful. The class understood him clearly!!! Moreover, he is really nice!!! TAKE HIM AS YOUR BEST CHOICE!!!
for a college philosophy class he makes it really easy to understand, he gives out less than what it says in the syllabus and that makes it much easier, gives out some easy 5-7 page essays and easy exams based on readings from "devil's knot" and "blink" and the textbook, I took the online 110 class, take fish you will get an easy, easy A!
REALLY EASY TEACHER AND REALLY HOT. I TOOK TWO CLASSES WITH HIM AND I WOULD LOVE TO TAKE ANOTHER CLASS WITH HIM.
Professor Fish made philosophy very interesting and entertaining. He knew exactly when to include jokes that related to philosophy, such as mentioning Woody Allen as Socrates, etc. He was also helful and accesible. I don't think he is hot, but he is acceptable!
Boring. Honestly, what a snoozer.
great professor
Natural born teacher.
The best professor I've ever had
Awesome teacher! He thoroughly explains the material, making this a very easy class. His hotness is understated, the more you look the more you notice it. Also, he has a sexy, soft New Orleans accent that can lull you to sleep if you are not careful.
Pretty easy to pass, the tests and homework are based off of the notes so pay attention. He's a good teacher keeps it interesting and funny. Just like the person before me said; his hotness is understated.. He's dorky, in a sexy way.
I LOVE MR. FISH! He is such a funny teacher. I never got bored in his class because he always has funny stories, jokes and things he relates the class to. I laughed a lot in his classes. He always writes his notes on the board after discussing it. TAKE HIM!!! He's awesome. I took him for 110 too :)
Great Teacher! I took his Ethics class and really enjoyed. I learned alot and the class was intresting and easy. His exams are all essay questions so it might be a good idea to take English 101 before this class, but I didn't and I managed to get a B.
Awesome teacher! I am always entertained in class, even when talking about the sensitive topics that are discussed in Ethics, he could always keep it light. We ended up having to do about half of the assigned HW. Tests are all essay as others said, but if you're prepared its cake. My only criticism is that he doesn't grade on a timely basis.
Easy A, dont need the textbook. Go to class, take notes, do the handouts > all you need. He's really smart, know well his stuff, care for his students. REALLY EASY guy, funny, his grading is really nice. Learn a lot of critical thinking out of his class. Just need to read 2 books to do the three essays. but they are not that hard. MUST TAKE HIM
Personally, I don't think he's hot, but rather resembles a kind father figure. He is very helpful and funny. I love his class. MORE TEACHERS SHOULD BE LIKE HIM!!!! or we can have a bunch of Mr. Fish clones to teach every subject =]
F15H is awesome. Smart, educative, and humurous... Best kind of teacher!!!
Helpful professor. Funny at times so the class isn't dull or boring all the time. Makes funny comments and is very clear with his explanations of the subject. Go to class, take notes, do the reading and your set for at least a B. The readings assignes are interesting so it shouldn't be a problem to keep up with it. Great Professor!
Extremely helpful professor. You have any problems regarding your personal issues, he will absolutely help you. He is smart, and willing to help all his students in class or in his office hour. He tries his best to give you good grade & GPA. PHilosophy is really him! He's focused most on grade, but the philosophy. most get A in his class! Take him!
Love him. He's extremely nice, he helps you as much as he can with any problems. he wouldn't let you to have low grade as long as you study. he give you 4.0 gpa. so take him. you should get A as long as you study a little. BEST TEACHER EVER IN MY LIFE
This man is a genius! He is such a GREAT PROFESSOR. I can not say it enough. His class is more like an intellectual conversation with a friend rather than a lecture! take his class and i guarantee you won't regret it at all!!!!
Having him as a philosophy teacher was truly a remarkable learning experience. I just completed his phil 108 course for the spring 2012 semester and received an A. He engages the class in his lectures & encourages participation to ensure that students absorb the material and he teaches you how to think critically. One of the best professors ever!
Had this teacher for Philosophy 106 and he was by far very clear with his material. No homework (besides studying for exams). Had 3 exams and if you show up everyday, it helps with your grade. He's goofy and made the class enjoyable :) I recommend this teacher to anyone taking philosophy.
He is passionate about philosophy. He actually writes out the exact notes in class on the board that you need to take so you can just copy along. Has very few hw assignments on blackboard along with some essay questions. You just need to study your notes and read sections of the book to pass the essay exams.
He is amazing. Gives you everything to prepare for the next exam. Easy class, but you learn a lot at the end.
difficult professor. his lectures are interesting. would not recommend his class if you are taking a full load of classes.
tough proff. but very funny and class is interesting
Took him for ethics, Mr. Fish is an awesome and hilarious teacher. I strongly recommend him.
Best professor ever! I loved him! Strange sense of humor! Does his best to help his students. Overall very easy, gives you everything for you to get an A! Wish he had more night classes!
Mr. Fish was one of my favorite teachers at Santa Ana! He goes over everything one the test and writes down everything on the board. I loved that he actually walked around asking every student if they needed any help. The readings are very interesting and you even get to watch a few movies. Amazing class, wish I could take it over again.
You need all three books. Weekly homework, and weekly quizzes, but he gives you the question to the quizzes a week before, so just memorized the answers. Three easy papers based on the reading. He gives you practice exams before the exam--very easy! Very helpful, and makes his classes funny!
Easy A !!!!
He is the best professor i have ever taken.very very very very nice, a big and generous heart. I love Mister fish so much. He explains really well, patient with his students , even with internationals. You're great professor Fish.
He's an easy A. If you do all the assignments you will pass the class. Take all the notes that he write on the board and you will do fine even without reading the text. He gives you the exam to review before the test. It's really hard not to fail his class. He hardly responds to email. But he's a good professor. I would recommend.
Professor Fish is a great guy I've met throughout my years of being in college. Though he doesn't always answer students' emails on a daily basis, he's always available during his office hours. Essays, homework, and exams are online and easy. We only met 4 times during the semester for review and got credit for attending.
Very funny and extremely helpful. He's down-to-Earth and is understanding. Tests aren't too hard. Textbook is used for the homework. He has a slight sothern-ish(?) accent, but he is still understandable. Best philosophy professor.
Easy A. The weekly work is easy. The essay you will need to make a good effort. Books you read are pretty good. Only complaint is he is slow to post the grades to blackboard to keep track of your current score in the class.
Great teacher. Explains everything so well. If you need any question he know just how to answer so you can understand him. really recommend!
If you are lucky enough to get into his philosophy 106 class, do it! Fish is an awesome professor that makes philosophy interesting with thought-provoking lectures. Come to class, take notes, do the paper, and study for the essay exams that he gives. He takes points off for missing class.
Great personality, funny & engaging, w/ a real grasp of material. But, I still wouldn't rec. the course. Attendance is more important than understanding the material! Ridiculous, it's college. Additionally, he does a poor job managing lectures. Allows 1 student to treat lectures like his own office hour appt's. 'A' work/understanding could=B grade
This Prof. talks, talks, talks, and then he talks some more. Lectures go on and on and on. Attendance is taken several times during the lecture, so leave 10 minutes early 1 lecture then miss one& there goes your grade-right down the toilet. Class also sucked, bc you had 1 student that never shut up and a prof. that allowed it. A Big Thumbs down
Probably one of the best teacher at sac. He explains the material very well, gives great examples, and mixes in some jokes to keep things interesting. He is well informed on the subjects that he teaches. I looked forward to attending class because he made learning fun. I would definatly recommend professor fish.
Easily one of the best professors I ever had! He was funny, smart and made learning philosophy interesting and fun. He liked playing devils advocate... going back and forth to make the class think more. We had a few homework assignments, weekly reading assignments, two tests, and an essay. TAKE HIM!!!
Chill class. Interesting topic. Very Very cool professor. Test are fairly easy if you study. Essays are a drag and he surprisingly grades them very critically. I received a B when I should have received an A. why? No idea. Thinking it was because of the essays.
Best professor so far!!!! First time taking intersession and I'm glad I chose Fish!!! He's pretty chill and Funny! Tests are very easy if you pay attention and study. Not hard at all. Would definitely take his course again!
Great Professor. All assignment and essay will be done at home. He always give many practice tests before having test exam. Recommend to take him.
Took Phil110 during intersession. Surprisingly a breeze. Critical on essays, but accepts a rough draft, so be sure to take advantage of that. Practice tests are very similar to actual tests. Be on time, or he'll take off points. Only needed textbook during class assignments, which is a waste, but oh well. Other two books are for essays.
Very helpful. Do the study guides, do the hw(really easy and helpful), go to class, and pay attention in lectures and you'll be perfectly fine .
Amazing professor
Fish is a pretty decent professor, he gives good lectures and assigns understandable hw assignments. He's not "hot" he's just very adorable and sweet. Lectures can get a little boring but its the subject NOT him that makes it boring. He actually gives u printed notes, so u dont have to take ur own just be sure to jot down some things he says. TAKE!
Professor Fish is a very funny professor. The books are amazing in my point and his lectures make the tests seem simple. The papers are long, but I would recommend exceed the amount he wants so he can see you put effort into it. He is funny and very chill professor, makes the class seem fun I highly recommend him.
Fish was an amazing professor. The subject and books are interesting and he is extremely helpful, kind, and available to clarify anything you need help with. Two essays (5-7 pages) and three exams. The material can be confusing but he is very clear and will answer any questions. He reviews A LOT for the tests so it's an easy A! TAKE HIM!
great professor, easy going, funny and comprehensive. However, the lecture seem to be a little long and boring.
I would not reccomend professor Fish to anyone. He did not grade any of the assignments until the LAST week of the semester(This was an 8 week course) so if you did anything wrong there was no chance in knowing it so you could correct it on your second, third, or fourth homework assignment. His feedback is terrible, and so is his communication.
Took During Intercession 2015 I recommend this option, you read 2 books and have study lessons from the textbook. Everything will be fresh in your mind take time for essays and exams. Don't bother taking this during the regular semester. The essays are fairly easy if you are descriptive.
Great professor! Would take it again! Tough class but all the review he gives makes it a lot easier! Get ready to read! The books are pretty good so reading is not bad at all! Highly recommend this professor! Good humor too!
great professor. tough class but he really prepares you for the exams. i mean he really, really prepares you! get ready to read! good choice of books to read. highly recommend this professor! would take him again if i needed another philosophy class!!
Fish is a great professor! I took him for a 4 week summer course, and he was very well organized the entire 4 weeks. We had 3 tests and 3 homework assignments. The material was pretty heavy, but he explained it clearly and thoroughly. If you plan on taking this course for summer or intercession, be prepared for a lot of information in a short time.
Summer course. Prof. was lagging posting assignments, grades, and giving feedback. Difficult to gauge how I was doing in the class with very little feedback. He posted grades late into the last week of class. And after finals. Oh well. I got an "A," which is what matters. Put in effort and you'll pass. Only one required book purchase-about $10.
Prof. Fish took the time to provide detailed and very helpful criticism/analysis of papers I turned in. With Prof. Fish, I didn't feel like I was just one of many faceless students on his roster. He treated us as individual students and helped us succeed -- this is even more important because it was an online class!
High recommend this class, he is professional professor, easy great A if you do homework and practice at home
He has a dry sense of humor at times but he likes to get the whole class involved in every lecture. He expects a lot of detail in his exams because they are written, but his homework are straight from the lecturer notes he gives you in class and the box. He is a good choice for this subject.
I took him for Phil 110 Hybrid. Overall, the class was pretty easy. But he wasn't very active online for a hybrid professor. He would go missing for months without updating us on anything. He grades very slowly. There were 3 online exams & 3 essays. Had to read 2 books. The few times I met with him, his lectures were pretty interesting.
Does not respond much to e-mails, and he's pretty absent from the online class. However, he's actually helpful and the class is decent and worth taking.
Fish, is a pretty laid back professor. The material in the beginning is a bit confusing, stay focused because the test are based on that. We have 4 essays I believe which were doable. He grades easily and is pretty entertaining! I'd take him again :)
PROFESSOR FISH IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST, MOST CARING PROFESSOR IVE EVER MET. TOOK SUMMER COURSE, AND ALOT OF MATERIAL WAS COVERED. VERY CLEAR, AND TO THE POINT LECTURES. ALSO HE'S A FUNNY PROFESSOR. THIS IS A CRITICAL THINKING CLASS DO NOT EXPECT IT TO BE EASY, HOWEVER PROFESSOR FISH IS VERY HELPFUL IF YOU FALL BEHIND. WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN
Professor Fish is amazing! his lectures are interesting and he keeps it lively with his humor and investment in student's success. Philosophy as a topic can get confusing and difficult to grasp, professor Fish is very receptive to those who really want to do well in the class. Ask questions and maintain communication, you'll do great!
Easy A but it's a huge weight not knowing what your grade is until the end of the semester. Just make sure you do all the homework and save it so you can look at it at for the tests and finals.
Fish is a great professor. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I learned a lot in his class and never thought of philosophy as interesting until now. He's always there to talk whether you need advice academically or just to chat. Conversation with Fish is always delightful. Can't wait to take more classes with him.
The prof was extremely absent from the class. He literally did not post grades until the end of the semester so you had no idea how you were doing. Discussion boards were not posted either. The class was just abandoned by him. I strongly recommend other phil courses.
Fish was very easy going. Everything was posted on Canvas for us to work on. He took a while to grade the papers and exams so you really did not know what grade you had until the end. Besides that the lectures, tests, papers and homework were very straight forward. This was a hybrid course and he gave you 10 points every time you showed up.
Don't take his online class. He does not communicate or check up with his students. He forgets to upload the homework assignments by days later and doesn't bother to give extra time. He is not a consistent grader, so don't expect your assignments to be graded until the end of the course. He is just unprofessional and irresponsible.
As long as you are willing to read and write, this class is not really hard. Prof. Fish will reduce assignments, or give extra time if he uploads it late. If you have any questions related to the materials in class, he definitely will answer every single one of them. He takes a while to grade assignments, but remember to save them for later tests.
Assignments were straightforward and discussions were only required the first few weeks of the semester. With the exception of a few graded discussions I never once saw a grade posted for essays or exams. He took forever to respond to an email and I felt like he forgot about his online class.
4 Exams, 8 Homework assignments fill-in-the-blank + short paragraph on reading assignments, 3 essays 5-7 pages. Essay 1 is taking a position on a debated topic. Essay 2 addresses the other side of your chosen topic to further support essay 1. Essay 3 is combining 1 & 2 into a large polished argumentative essay.
Great professor. It is worth to go in class, listen, and take notes. Because 100 percents of his 4 exams are based on his lectures. One writing assignment is based on everything he taught in the class. If you focus on his lectures, for sure you are going to get A.
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS. TERRIBLE COMMUNICATOR. QUESTIONS ASKED, HE NEVER BOTHERED TO REPLY AND GRADING WHENEVER HE FEELS LIKE IT.
Easy workload: 3 Exams, Final Exam, 5 Homework Assignments (extra credit Assignments same format), 1 Argumentative Paper. Tests are short answer response, Homework is same or similar to exam questions.
His class is fun. Tests are easy but study hard for it and be careful on wordings. Essay's topic is easy but he's a strict grader so put effort on it. Grades may not be updated throughout the semester but you can ask him how you're doing and he'll let you know.
Hes really funny. Its a sort of dry humor that may not be for everyone. He keeps the class interesting and readily answers any questions you have.
Very nice professor, as long as you pay attention on his lecture or keep reading the online materials that you can pass the exams. He's stand to sense and patient. The exams are short essays for a couple of questions from the lecture, focusing on the class you will get A very easily. Highly recommend him!!
He's nice and most of classmates can have fun in his class, his 4 weeks winter intersession only has 2 exams and 1 paper, he will provide the questions before you getting start. However, he usually writes the lectures on the whitebored but it's hard for me to understand what he wrote sometimes. Anyway, a good professor I highly recommed.
One of the best professors I've had. I've been to many local community colleges & CSULB. He is well prepared. Provides many practice exercises/exams. If you practice and listen you will do good. He does not try to trick you. This class has helped me enjoy and understand philosophy more. His lectures were fun! He cares about his students. No book .
He is an amazing Professor! Excellent feedback on essays, if you listen he goes over everything that will be on the hw/exams. Kind, funny and informative. You can tell he cares about his students, and the lectures were always a bright spot in the week. Highly recommend!
Really nice guy, but dont expect to know you grade on any essay, exam, or homework for a few years.
He gave us 4 exams and many discussion boards. The discussion posts were graded about 1-2 weeks later than they were due and none of my exams were graded until grades were due at the end of the semester which made it difficult to keep up. All exams were free-response. I was very unhappy especially since there was a waiting list that I had been on
I had Professor Fish in intersession, and he is alright. The class itself is easy and it is mostly just discussions and exams. The exams are written and are kind of like essay questions. The one problem I had with him was the grading. He DOES NOT grade well! I didn't know my grade till the semester was over. It makes it hard to see where your at...
The only thing that was frustrating was that there were four 100 point assignments and twelve 6 point discussion posts. Three of the four large assignments were not graded until the class was already over, so I had no idea how I was performing in that class.
If you are planning on taking his class fully online then get ready to read some daunting readings. I just finished his PHIL108 Ethics class which was an 8 week class and it was tough but as long as you put the time and effort you should be fine. He also did not grade all of my things until the end which could be a problem for some. Try your best.
His lectures are engaging and fun. He gives really good feedback in your writing. He does take forever to grade the papers. He has practice exams and the exercises are very similar to the actual exam. The same is true for the homework. I liked the class and his sense of humor. I wish he would not take too long to grade your work.
Professor Fish very nice. The way he grades the assignment not too harder. He doesn't like cheating, so if you cheat, he will give you 0. Have a practice exam to review and the video in each lecture. He grades the exam and the assignment quite a little bit slow. Give you a lot of time to do the exam, so don't worry.
He looks like Jeff Goldbloom, He was awesome, very engaging, funny, and understanding. It is a pretty easy class as long as you do the homework, the quizzes are exactly like the homework. The only thing is he takes a little long to grade papers, but isn't a tough grader I would definitely take him again. <3
I like his online class.
This class was definitely an eye opener in the way our world moves by using the principles of Philosophy. Professor Fish provided lecture videos that made it simple to understand the material. Note: this online class requires alot of reading for an 8 week course. He takes a while to grade assignments, so please be patient. I would take him again!
He is very funny, he makes the material easy to understand, and does't leave much homework. The class consists of homework assignments, two (5-7 paged) essays, and four exams. He will SOMETIMES reply to canvas messages/emails and you won't know what your grade is in the class until the end of the semester.
This teacher is not present at all. It's finals week and we haven't had a single grade for any assignments posted yet, and I have no idea what our final assignment is yet. He frequently posts modules/assignments late. Lectures are pre-recorded and I haven't seen him engage or communicate with anyone in the discussions. Unprofessional and apathetic.
I genuinely found out my grade for this course on the last day of class. He is so inaccessible. I emailed him all the time to join office hours or get some feedback and he would never respond. You have no idea if you're doing well and it's so stressful. You don't know your grade so you can't improve and he doesn't give any help. TAKE ANYONE ELSE.
He DOES take a while to get back to you in you send him a email or a msg through canvas. I did not find out my grade till the last week of the semester. It is kinda nerve racking when you are complete unaware of you grade, he did offer an extra credit day which included one essay about a topic that was talked about in class.
I took his 8-week online class. Overall an easy class, but Professor Fish grades rather slow, so it is important to stay on top of everything. Lots of reading, provides lecture videos and notes. 1 essay, two discussions per week, and 2 big writing exams based on the questions he provides, which are straight forward. 1 extra credit assignment.
The overall class was easy. Much of the class was notes, and they are needed to get a good grade for the exams. The exams and essays are easy. Prior to your exams you do take practice exams. There are extra credit opportunities.
Professor's Fish makes this class very interesting. You will be required to watch video lectures and there is alot of reading one has to do. I took his 8 week summer course, and I felt overwhelmed with back-to-back exams and essays. He tends to grade all assignments at the end of the semester, so you won't know until the end if you passed.
his lectures are based on notes just make sure to get everything down or to come to class on time because if your late 10 mins you already missed 2-3 minutes worth of notes. gives homework probably like 5 times out of the semester. The test are based on a lot of vocab words so you need to memorize all the definitions to the vocabulary
I am now currently in my 8th week of this 16 week class and I have not had one assignment or discussion graded so I have no idea how I am doing in this class. It is very frustrating not knowing how you are doing. I have emailed the professor twice and have not gotten a response. Also he tends to open up modules late.
The class had interesting content with readings, discussions, and homework. Unfortunately, there was no communication from the professor, who didn't respond to emails and didn't grade any assignments on Canvas. I completed all assignments and had to check self-service for my grade.
It is the 8th week of an accelerated class and he has only graded 4 assignments 24. It is stressful not knowing your grade when it is the last week of class and being unsure what grade you will be passing with. It is also very unprofessional to be this far behind in grading on the last week.
The material for Ethics is very interesting and gave me many new perspectives to look at different topics in life. This was an 8-week course; some weeks you had to read 50+ pages on top of the assignments. When the exam/essay was due you were expected to write pages upon pages on top of the assignments. But the prof only graded 4 assignments...
Very funny! 5 HW, 2 essays (5-7 pages each) and 3 exams. HW/essays online, exams in-person and are based on memorizing vocab and definitions and he always does practice exams in the days leading up to the real thing. All the other ratings are correct that he doesn't post grades until the end but this shouldn't be a problem if u know ur doing good.
Online course with heavy workload and reading. The professor stopped grading after the first month, leaving everyone in the dark about their progress until the final grades deadline.
Super understanding and responsive to students - whenever I emailed, he always replied within a few days, which is pretty good for summer session! Always gave clear feedback and had a clear grading rubric. I'm definitely retaking his classes, a pleasure to learn from!
I can't give this teacher enough of a thumbs up. By far the funniest teacher I have ever had in my life. Extremely kind man and very flexible and overall a great teacher. Definitely one of the best in the whole school. When I took his philosophy class I learned a lot and even with my short term memory loss I still remember a lot from this class.
Professor literally graded my assignments for the first three weeks and went MIA for the rest of the semester! I've never seen anything like this before. I know he has nothing left to lose this late into his career but it's simply unprofessional. He's very lenient on grading but it is still infuriating that he stopped grading/responding to messages
IF YOU READING THIS GRADE YOUR STUDENTS WORK HE LITERALLY GETS PAID TO DO NOTHING HOW U GONE NOT GRADE NOTHING AND LEAVE US TO FEND FOR OURSELVES.
Professor Fish's PHIL108 class was thought-provoking, with engaging readings and discussions. However, grading can be slow, so staying on top of assignments is key. unstuck study was a helpful study tool alongside the course materials.
Completely awful. He graded week one, then vanished—no responses, no grading, nothing. He's strict on deadlines, but doesn't keep up with his own duties. Worse, he accuses students of using AI if their responses sound educated, creating a tense environment. I had to drop the class; I'd never take him again and wouldn't recommend him to anyone
He takes a while to grade things and usually grades a few weeks worth of assignments at a time, but he gives great feedback and the reading material is super interesting! Love his discussions, wish they were worth more. Highly recommend watching the lectures, they're really engaging. I like to put them in the background sort of like a podcast.
He's funny, has amazing lectures and willing to help and communicate with students. My only complaint being that he doesnt grade like at all. It takes months to receive any grades back. My final paper was straight up not graded lol.
Other ratings are correct: he won't submit grades until the very end of semester. BUT if you do the HW, do the exams, do the essay - you are guaranteed to pass if you put in the work. Everyone complaining about this, but you shouldn't if you know you are doing the work correctly. Very funny, memorization is key to pass exams. Best professor at SAC!
Basically what everyone else said. I want to like the guy, but can't help but feel a little disrespected by the lack of feedback. Would be my favorite class/professor and an obvious 5 if he even just put a little effort in. Sucks.
He accused me of using AI because of my grammar when I would use Grammarly for better grammar; that's unfair. I emailed him, and he didn't even answer. He went M.I.A all semester, and came back to bad grading and bad feedback. I am very disappointed, too, because I failed this class. I'm behind, and it made me even more behind.
My man did not grade anything until the end of the semester. He is way too paranoid about AI and jumps the boat if something sounds too complex. I barely passed the class because he gave me 0s on Homework assignments. I did well enough on the exams though so it's all good. He's a good guy, is very lecture heavy but is a slow grader.
As stated by previous students he does not grade anything until the end. As long as you do the work and read the articles you will do fine. We had to do 3 essays in total, but homework questions answered everything he wanted in two of the three essays. Wish he had more lectures as that is how I was able to better grasp material.
Did not grade a SINGLE THING. However, the class was so incredibly easy because he gives a practice mock exam which is almost identical to the real ones. Yes the real ones are harder but you don't have to study like crazy. Just try and study though. MCQ on the exams count for a LOT. Failed the first exam and missed like two homework and got an A.
I'll try to cram as much as I can. Printed class notes for us. Hw questions really helped with exam questions. Gives the exact questions on the exam BEFOREHAND so you can study. Exams are handwritten no MC. Reading yes, but I think they are interesting. Professor cracks some jokes. Grades your exams and u get them back but no grade in canvas. Easy
His online structure was pretty straightforward. I took the summer intersession course and there were 2 discussions per week. There were maybe 3-4 essays that had to be pretty long-a couple pages. Interesting topics, however I felt like it was a lot of work. He is a pretty tough grader. Id look at other professors before choosing him.
The professor is very kind and approachable, which makes the class feel comfortable. However, grading is extremely limited and feedback is rarely provided, so it is hard to know how well you are doing or how to improve. Because of this, learning feels very one-sided and self-directed rather than guided or engaging.
