Great professor! Very intelectual and made precalculus easy to understand and follow. My class ended up scoring the highest out of all the precalc classes and it was all thanks to Mr. Forrest. Highly Recommend!!!
He made the lectures/notes way more complex than they needed to be. He's a nice enough guy and he tries to make jokes, but overall wasn't very good. It was, however, his first year teaching. Maybe if you already had a good background with precalc you'd be able to follow, but otherwise, you're on your own. I used MLP to teach myself.
He's super thorough with his lectures and makes learning new material a walk in the park. He's makes a lot of quirky jokes but you can tell he genuinely enjoys teaching and cares about being a good professor. Used iclicker in class so I always attended class.
Mr. Forrest is such a great math professor. As someone who is not a fan of math, I genuinely enjoyed his class. I would recommend this professor to anyone! Definitely take him if he is an option.
NEVER ANSWERS EMAILS!!! Good luck if you think he can help you through email. Also doesn't teach anything new, just goes over information you were confused about from video quizzes.
I had a great time with Professor Forrest. His classes tend to be more full, so you don't really get individual time and participation is not mandatory. You just have to show up to his Blackboard lectures and do the homework.
Absolute icon. His video lectures helped me a lot and his black board collaborations were just to discuss questions people had about problems. I learned more math in this class than I have in high school.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He makes you want to come to class and the lectures give you everything you need to succeed and pass the class
Math isn't my strong suit but I've learned probably much more on MLP (mostly because our tests are on that platform). Such a cool professor though! Makes you want to go to class -- would've loved to have him in person. 4 tests and 1 final (one gets dropped). Video quizzes and MLP HW and quizzes mostly due twice a week - not too bad. Great course!
he really is just a good man. i really liked him. he does assign a good deal of homework but it is necessary for you to understand the material. hes patient, calm, understanding, & drops A LOT. he wants you to learn & succeed.
Nice guy and probably a great teacher if you are already good at math, but if you struggle with math or just don't have the greatest foundation for all the rules like myself, get ready to teach yourself a whole class from your textbook because the way he explains things will just confuse you even more.
Professor Forrest is a really calm and composed man and answers questions with patience. He made sure that none of his students had to receive a lesser grade in the class due to glitch in the university grading system. He's a good man and laid back person.

Great teacher. The grading just got to be very complicated and had lots of students worried because of the constant grade changes in the last week. Not his fault just wish it was more organized. Go to class bc of the clickers! And do mlp!
Professor Forrest is understanding and is always willing to clarify questions in the online lectures and by email. Pre-calc itself is something you shouldnt get behind in but Forrest assists in ensuring you do well. He was the best professor I had. Make sure you stay up to date with MLP (online homework and quizzes) and lowest exam is dropped.
So I previously stated the "AWFUL NEVER ANSWERS EMAILS". To clarify, I am writing this after the semester and a lot has changed since then. He does not respond to every single email if he clarified it in some way through an announcement. He really cares about his students and really does want to see them succeed in this class if you're willing to.
Toom him for Precalc and wish I could take for every single math after that. He tries his hardest to reach everyone and if you have questions about anything feel free to ask him in class when not lecture and he's always more than happy to answer. Funny guy who loves math
Very kind professor. The whole class loved him and rightfully so. If you have the opportunity, take him. He drops a lot. We mostly learned material from prerecorded youtube videos he provided. The live classes were more of working out problems people needed help with but they were fun.
Math is not going to be a big part of my career, so I wanted the easiest math class I could find. Professor Forrest is hands-down the best math instructor I've ever had! He makes the content so easy to understand. Last semester, he put lectures in quizzes to ensure we watched them, and online class times were for our q's. He's better than cool-ish!
This dude is such a gem. He is extremely accessible and friendly, he really cares about making sure you understand the content. Since I'm taking this course online, I was a bit hesitant at first, especially considering I'm not usually the best at math. But I was pleasantly surprised with this course. He's also pretty witty. Definitely recommend.
This guy is hilarious and such a great professor! I hate math but he made it way more understandable and enjoyable. The content is very easy and hes a good explainer if youre confused, the homework and quizzes are also pretty easy. I highly recommend.
Although he is a funny guy like everyone is saying, he is never on track during the lectures and always wastes time talking about his personal life instead of teaching. He would always end up holding class for 10-15 extra minutes. Also hes not very accommodating and the class requires a lot of time! If you have the choice go with another professor
He's such a fun professor, I usually hate precalc but I ended up looking forward to this class
He goes out of his way to provide multiple ways for students to reach him outside of class to make sure if you have a question you can always ask it before the test. The work is dull but he tries to make it fun and is always cracking jokes in class. He works fast but if you ask him a question he is more than happy to help.
The guy is so chill and gives us so many opportunities to fix our grades with makeup points if the class does badly on an exam. You can see he truly cares for the work he does and he is one of the best professors I have seen in my college experience so far. Junior retaking precalc.
During lectures, he tends to over complicate things, but he is also very good at reading the room and telling when no one understands what he is saying. Livens up class with jokes and stories, and is always offering opportunities to get extra credit and understanding the material.
He's a pretty fair professor but if you take him, be prepared to teach yourself the material. He goes over the basic principles and lectures about theory instead of teaching you how to actually do the problems. He assigns a ton of work on mymathlabs due every Friday and Sunday so don't fall behind on those. I do like that the final is optional.
Very chill. Kind of like if a dad and a dog got combined into one person. Teaches a lot of theory behind concepts, which can either be very helpful or just confusing. Uses MyMathLab, so make good usage of that, study and practice and you'll do fine. Notes are given to you.
The exam category is worth 64% of your final grade in the course so if you're not a good tester then good luck. Also he never makes it through a lesson. I felt like learning from Youtube was more effective than going to lecture. Other professors give more study resources so I would try someone else.
Never got through a lesson, to be honest I taught myself the entire semester and ended up with an A. Was pretty annoying, would just chat with this one student the entire time and was pretty much a waste of the class. Take someone else if possible
I loved him as a professor he was very understanding and drops our lowest test and homework grade at the end of the semester. only issue I had was that he never finished his lectures and relied YouTube videos, and my lab homework assignments to teach us.
This teacher has a very good personality in my opinion, he is very goofy and entertaining. The class was obviously not that easy, but I honestly learned the majority of my information on MML in their Multimedia Library. The class was more of an introduction to the topics and we have to figure out the rest on our own. Which is college :(
I just don't feel like his teaching style worked for me however many others in the class did fine and enjoyed his lectures. He also is not very good at responding to emails at all.
loved him as a person but absolutely hated precalc. the assignments were difficult and my roommate who was in the class with me taught me almost of the info, but professor forrest was a great guy
Delegates all his work to "peer leaders". Mandatory computer lab time that requires more work at home before you can do THAT work. Wastes in-class time by having you do work packets instead of lecturing, and makes you do the lectures at home. Sets up the lecture videos as quizzes so you can't take breaks and come back. Behind on emails and grades.
this class is a flipped, so its self-taught. He does not teach, the homework's are videos from Mr.c (another precal proff) and smart lab is required. I literally learn from the homework questions, this class is a fat joke. The test are easy if you study, its just annoying that i learned online, not with an actual proff.
A bit pretentious, his style means you have to teach yourself everything. Take anyone else if you can, because even the worst professor would be giving you more info than him. I found him insufferable but some people might find him hip and relatable.
trust me dont take this class the vidoe lectures and class activities dont match the MLP hw are due twice a week and mind you the hw are a lot
quizzes have to be taken in the smart which was a bit difficult to meet my deadlines
You would be better off setting the money you would waste taking this class on fire. Refuses to teach in class, you are forced to watch lecture videos outside of class (quiz format), never responds to emails and purposely ignores them (admitted himself), peer-leaders do all the work. Lessons are not related to exams. MML Pearson teaches you more!
Dr Forrest as a person is great. He's a really chill, funny dude. However, the flipped nature of this classroom is the downfall. Not his choice, but it makes the class as a whole a nightmare. I like him as a person, but the class is just terrible.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had. The flipped classroom makes it impossible to learn anything because you have to teach yourself which I get is not his fault. But if you need help or have any sort of emergency and email him you might as well forget it because he does not answer any of his emails. Makes it impossible to pass.
The WORST professor I have ever taken. This flipped classroom technique was terrible and just like the others said, his teaching was nothing but lazy. You would do better off doing an online math course at a community college.
Professor Forrest is a really good professor 4 exams (one dropped) just go to class and do the in class activities and pay close attention the syllabus and smart lab schedule and you'll be fine.
Since i am good at math it was easy for me as i learnt these stuffs before college however you will be expected to teach yourself 90% of the time from youtube videos. I am not a very big fan of his, "Reversed Classroom" method where you learn materials outside class since Math is a type of subject where you need proper focus to be able to excel
Honestly, MAC1147 with him is not as bad as people say. Just stay on top of things like SmartLab Assignments, and lecture activities. It is a lot of self teaching, but the resources are there for you. This is my 2nd time taking precalc for bettering my GPA, luckily it went very well.
He was a pretty funny professor but we had a flipped classroom thing going on and basically every week you had lecture video due on Sunday and Tuesday the day before in person class. You basically teach yourself, not only that you had lots of homework and quizzes due on my math lab. We were literally just learning from Youtube videos.
i do NOT like professor Forrest. probably the worst professor I've ever had, and that's being generous. i had to drop the class because i was not learning anything. the class did not prepare me at all for calc, so im retaking it with another professor. MAC1147 with him truly is horrible. if u have ANY other option, take it instead of Forrest
You'll learn better in an online math course than this professor. He's just milking the money and only teaches for 10 minutes. His "flipped classroom" technique is not good.
Took in summer, not a hard class but the flipped learning can be hard if your not used to teaching yourself. Hes a good teacher and if talk to him, hell help you with the questions. A lot of stuff gets dropped( save ur grade) and the study guide are the questions on the test. Got a A+ and I did 6 weeks. Definitely a full time job.
Precalc would be wonderful if Forrest was allowed to teach. The flipped classroom style is terrible, I learned more by practicing on MyMathLab than i did from Prof Cs youtube videos. Lots of dropped grades allow for a decent grade in this class, but be prepared to teach yourself nearly everything. extra credit is offered if you miss 5 classes.
Lectures are pointless, he recaps a very small portion of the big idea for each lesson of the unit and overcomplicates it. In Class Activities are helpful, as well as review packets and we were basically learning from another Pre-calc professors' YouTube videos. MyLab study plans/homework/quizzes teach you more.
He's a nice person but the way this classroom works is terrible. And he doesn't really help you much at all. You mine as well take an online class. You basically teach yourself everything, and the class moves very quick. There is smart lab hours and tons of my math lab assignments. This class has caused me so much stress. Do not recommend.
This class isn't easy by any means but I think he does a pretty decent job of explaining. (when he actually does) His lectures are only about 15 minutes long then the rest was working on worksheets with partners. They grade notes for completion which is easy. Tests aren't easy but if you study the material it isn't impossible to get a good grade.
He really does not do much teaching, I learned more on my own then from this professor and there is a ton of homework.
doesn't teach at all.
Lectures are pretty much pointless because he spends very little time at the beginning of class to go over all the material that we had to learn on our own through YouTube videos, because its a flipped class. Never struggled so much in a class before, Ive talked to many people with the same views. Would not recommend this professor.
I learned absolutely nothing he drops a good amount of things and has an amazing extra credit opportunity. Attendance is mandatory notes have to be done before the "lecture", make sure to keep tabs on when the mylab assignments are due because he does not include the due dates on canvas. he doesn't really do a lecture, we do packets in a group.
With other comments the teaching style is confusing, but if you ask question and go to office hours it shouldn't be a problem. Attendance is mandatory through class activities, but 10 are dropped through the semester. Lectures are helpful and he is very caring outside of class. This course does have a lot of mandatory SMART lab work.
The most infuriating experience of my life. Expect 5-10+ HW/quizzes weekly in the SMART lab, attendance is mandatory, he will lecture for ~10 minutes and overcomplicate all the material, then you will do a packet by yourself for the rest of class. Forrest is very sarcastic and feedback is unhelpful, be prepared to teach yourself this entire class.
This course is very "teach yourself" style. The course isn't that bad IMO, but it's a LOT of homework (precalc in general is a lot). I didn't really learn much from lectures, just review from what I learned in the videos. He is helpful though if you go up to him. In-class groups to work on review packets helped, but you pretty much teach yourself.
If you're diligent in attending the Smart Labs, doing notes, and completing the lecture quizzes on Canvas then this class is good. There is a lot of room for error in the sense that he waives a certain amount of the lecture quizzes, Smart Lab attendances (etc.). Attend and complete the packets with your group, do the assignments, you'll be golden.
Forrest simply used Mr. Connelly's lectures and study guides, which we exclusively learned from before each class. During this, all he would do is reiterate what Connelly said, go through the exact problem the video did, and then just give us group packets for our participation grade along with requiring notes that condescending TAs would check.
Awful prof. His lectures didn't help anyone. You basically j had to wait until they passed out the packet which sucked anyways. A flipped classroom but they drop the lowest test, several hwks and quizzes, so you technically didn't have to take the final. Quizzes were unlimited retakes & tests both in smartlab. Homework was easy though
You will start off the semester liking the professor, but then as the semester goes on you'll notice how he starts to move on too quick, gets sarcastic, horribly explains concepts, and you just leave class angry and irritated. He basically does not teach the class, it's his buddy Mr. C. Mr. C does a good job at explaining the concepts and ideas.
Overall, he doesn't lecture too much in person and he tries to make sense of everything for people. You are responsible for watching the lectures on YouTube by Mr. C before attending class. Attendance is graded and participation on in class group packets are also a major grade factor. He is a sweet and funny person with a passion for math.
Professor Forrest somehow actually made me enjoy coming to math classes this semester. The inverted lecture style works perfectly with how I learn. The only complaint I have with this class is the way that Smart Lab is done, but that's a subject-wide issue, not anything to do directly with professor Forrest.
I could've gotten the same grade with or without this professor. I hated flipped classroom setup. His lectures were unhelpful and repetitive, so I got used to coming in twenty minutes late, just in time for the in-class worksheet. As long as you take notes on the hw videos and show up to class, you should be fine. Mandatory smart-lab sucked though.
Go to ALL the lectures! He will answer all your questions, I recommend the 2-3pm slot. Its later in the day but its right before his office hours if you have even more questions. If you want to bond with him make math jokes. On paper attendance isn't mandatory, but the HW you do in class is graded so it technically is counted.
Horrible. I hate flipped class set up. He spends 35 mins on the easiest question and gives us the remaining 30 to finish a whole packet. SmartLab is the worst. Save yourself from it if you can. He is a nice person, horrible teacher.
Professor Forrest is a kind individual and an okay professor. The flipped lecture format posed challenges, though not his fault. However, his apparent busyness made approaching him for questions intimidating. Encouraging a more approachable atmosphere would enhance the overall learning experience.
The professor is nice enough, and you can tell he is very knowledgeable about math, but the flipped classroom setup sucks. You have to teach yourself all the content by watching the videos they give you outside of class, and then in class he goes over maybe 2 problems and that's it. The smartlab is terrible, and so time consuming.
He does not specifically call attendance, but every class activity , notes are checked and he puts in grades based off if your name is in the group packet. 2 hrs smart lab a week requirement. He uses Mr Cs videos and is a flipped classroom which doesnt help much and half the class he does examples then you do a packet w a group. It was an ok class.
He is a good professor and I would recommend him to others taking precalc, the issue for me was more the content of the class than the professor. That being said, you will be spending hours upon hours in the smart lab and always be doing math homework. He does drop things at the end of the semester though.
Zachary Forrest is passionate about Pre-calc and is knowledgeable in the subject. I just wish he would teach us the material instead of making us watch the videos that Mr.C made. If he taught all the material in class I feel students would have a better experience. Overall, Zachary is very helpful and is open to answering questions.
He is very passionate about math but explains things in a way that makes it way harder than it actually is. Pre-calc is easy and Mr.C videos are helpful. No worries about having to pass, but personally I found going to his lectures to get the notes graded dreadful.
I'm gonna be straightforward. IF YOU WANT AN A IN THE CLASS YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK HARD. That being said. Prepare to treat this class like a part-time job. There is a LOT of coursework (I think in the semester there were about 150 assignments.) Exams are 60% of your entire grade. Pros: each midterm you get 2 takes. 1/5 exams can be dropped.
Mr. Forrest is willing to help outside of class in his office hours, and explains things pretty clearly, but this is a flipped classroom. You have to watch lecture videos (not even made by him), take extensive notes, and show up to most class periods to get graded on said notes. Class is just him overcomplicating the videos he assigns. I don't rec.
This class is genuinely extremely difficult and you will HAVE to pay attention if you want to end up with anything higher than a B. that being said you can get away with not having to study too hard to the exams since you have 2 takes for each one. something that really helped me throughout the course was reviewing the tests after each first try.
Attendance at Smart Lab mandatory every week. Flipped classroom so you learn outside and practice in the classroom. He drops A LOT of grades at the end though (quizzes, hw, attendance, 1 exam, this could be the final). If you miss less than 4 classes, 4% IS ADDED TO YOUR FINAL GRADE !!
This class should never be taught as a flipped teaching style ever again. The amount of coursework that is assigned each week easily becomes very overwhelming, and makes it difficult to balance coursework/studying for other important classes. Take it online if you can, do not take this class in person. Nice person, horrible professor.
The flipped class method sucks, but it's not him its course wide so I can't even blame him. He's a smart professor, really into mathematics and if you ask questions you will definitely get answers. The class requires a lot of effort but if you put in the effort you will do well- and im not even good at math. 4% extra credit for good attendance.
i would take the prof. again, not the class. the course is taught from a flipped classroom style lecture, and also relies on you to complete work in the smart lab (which is tedious and very time consuming). both of these are not his fault, as it's a rule for all precalc classes. he drops the lowest grades and gives 4% EC if you have good attendance
got an 89.96 and wouldn't round but fair due to drops and 4 PERCENT extra credit for attendance. mylab quizzes were HARD but unlimited. but he makes you watch a different teachers youtube video before class and does the same examples in class as seen in the videos you watch at home. pointless to attend class besides the extra credit attendance
This professor is a great guy but the class SUCKS. Flipped lecture style is terrible for precalc and we dont go over hard examples, only easy ones. The rest is for you to figure out. You have to watch hour long videos on each subunit and attend lectures for credit on top of all. You also have to physically attend the library - to get stuff done
The way this class is formatted is very bad, but that isnt his fault. Be prepared to spend hours in the library then be forced to attend a very redundant class that just goes over the basic stuff we had to learn thru Mr. C's (awfully monotone) YouTube videos. This is "outside the classroom" flipped teaching and it just doesnt work for this subject
Great guy, very easy to like. Well set aside time for you if you take the initiative. Class is set up horribly with the flipped method. You learn from Mr. C's videos, so he kind of just reiterates what he says in the pre-lecture. Course moves very fast, and you have to go to the library to get work done.
The professor is friendly and knowledgeable, but the overall course structure is weird and bad at teaching imo. Most of the teaching that gets done is through youtube videos, and the only reason most people go to class is because of the mandatory attendance and classwork.
This class is one of the hardest. There are TONS of homework and your grade is mostly based on the exams you will be taking during the semester. The professor is always there to help, he is very nice and understandable. The good thing about his class is that at the end of the semester, you get to drop some of your lowest grades and one exam.
The class is really tough itself, the professor is nice and he makes the class a bit easier, however, the class is based on you learning with videos and going to the SmartLab. The professor is only there to give you the daily group assignment and answer any questions anyone has. I'd say he doesn't really teach, he is just a very nice professor.
Zach himself was very down to earth and open to answering any questions. The class is set up for flipped learning which really sucks for math. Smart lab heavy for homework and quizzes but because of this the class is really hard to fail. You'll only fail if you never show up to class and don't do any homework or quizzes.
zach himself is a super chill guy who completely understands the student life.lots of opportunity's to save your grade. He sometimes explains things way too complicated when they don't need to be also hated the flipped lecture but heard it going away starting fall 2024 idk.
Dr. Forrest is super funny and likeable. He tries his best to make sure every student understands the material. He doesn't go too fast and drives home important points rather than assuming you know it like many other professors. Wish I could have him for all math classes.
2 hws and 2 quizzes due every week,1 exam every few weeks. Quizzes must be taken in the smart lab which is a pain but it's not really the professor's fault. He doesn't do the flipped classroom method anymore, so all the learning is in the classroom. Answers questions and explains thoroughly, but sometimes overcomplicates things. Not hard to pass.
Very passionate about math and it shows in his lectures!! Sometimes he overcomplicated the material, but he did a good job explaining how to do things. Sometimes the way he explained it didn't match up with the Pearson way of doing things, but he was still very helpful and answered questions before and after class. Some extra credit available too
Professor Zach is a super chill guy who really understands the student struggle. His class has a unique flipped format, but with the help of unstuck ai and the textbook, you can navigate it well. Lots of chances to boost your grade - just stay engaged!
everyone I spoke to in this class absolutely hated his teaching style. he'd go on 45 minute rants on one problem and then wouldn't finish what we actually needed to learn during class so he'd send us home with notes that nobody understood. also every single test has an f or d average. super nice guy though but barely any extra credit and no curves.
The professor never explains the steps and just spends the whole class time doing 1 or 2 examples. He doesn't explain difficult problems and instead just does examples the whole class instead of actually explaining the concept or how to apply it. this class is also graded super heavily, and if u make one small mistake ur grade could go down a lot.
This was one of my WORST professors. Going to class was a waste of time he spent hours doing proofs we do NOT need. He is a good person but a bad teacher. Give little to no extra credit, and the exams are very hard. Nothing you learn in class prepares you for the exams. Exam averages were 50%. Save yourself the time and do not take him. Many failed
Incredible professor. I am not mathematically inclined but this professor helped me to get through this course. Genuine dude, and always willing to clarify information.
I took him for pre calc and he was an okay professor. There were group activities that were random and daily attendance quizzes. Spent ALOT of time in the smart lab so be prepared. Each exam had a retake and the lowest exam was replaced by the final. He was not the best teacher so would recommend teaching yourself.
