I knew a little about Microsoft already, so it definitely helped a lot! If you did your work, you could leave when done. SO it said the class was 3 hours, but you could be done in 1.5 hours. He helps a lot and you learn a lot. He also made jokes and gave candy on Halloween.

Favorite professor in the CIS department so far. Didnt really enjoy the class material, but he always made lectures entertaining and I feel like I actually learned something. Very fair and has clear expectations. And yes, he gives out candy on Halloween.

Awesome professor, and awesome guy. You will know him for the rest of your life and he will help you with anything. Class is simple, just make sure to study your own way for the tests, the only reason I didn't make an A was because I tried to use someone else's study guide, but I still made an 86 after getting 76's on the first 2 tests

Prof. Kelley is a solid choice for Visual Programming I (CIS2324). He really cares about his students and will answer ANY questions that you may have in class and wont make you feel annoying/dumb for asking them. Youre assigned 2 project partners and theres group hw due every 1-2 weeks. Youll earn an A if you practice the material outside class

I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! Take him if you get a chance.. He does go off topic in his lectures but he is so inspirational that you wouldn't mind. His test are based on the study guides. He is great!!!

This is the best class I have taken at Texas State (coding I know) but this is all because of the professor. I usually don't feel comfortable asking questions, but he will answer any question you have and not make you feel dumb for asking it. He is very willing to work with you and doesn't mind going over it until you understand it.

Super chill guy. Just do the homeworks. He opens them all at the beginning of the semester, so get a head start and do them early. Sim nets are VERY time consuming so start them early enough to redo them if you need. Overall, Amazing professor and knows what hes stalking about. Doesnt make you feel stupid for not knowing something.

Kelley's the highest rated professor in CIS dept. He makes lectures interesting with lots of humor and his real-world experiences. Tests are challenging, yet rewarding & involve MC, a few short answers, & of course diagram drawing (because this is a drawing class). The 6 assignments are done in groups of 3 which makes things easier for everyone.

He is a great teacher because he has so much real world experience. He can see through bs excuses and if you arent taking responsibility. Moreso than any other class, you will get out of it what you put in. If you dont practice on your own, then you probably wont do well. He wants you to learn. You can tell that he CARES and enjoys this field.

One of the better professors I have taken.

He gives one late day in case of any technical difficulties for any assignment, but hates cheating. Has a lot of personality. Very forgiving and will make tests less hard if people show up to Zooms or lectures.

Kelley told us to mess with you by sharing lots of irrelevant info (if that doesn't tell you he's a fun, chill prof., then...) At Halloween he gives out candy. His Zoom virtual background during the final exam was six minutes of Star Wars 6 (rebel fleet assault of the DS 2 scene). He and his wife have a cat that likes to interrupt Zoom lectures.

I'm usually on this site if I have very negative things to say about a professor. As far as Professor Kelley goes, he was the first teacher that actually could sympathize with college students. There's always gonna be one kid who complains but our professor was extremely lenient during our pandemic. I can only see a man that emits positive energy.

Great professor, he makes a dry subject entertaining. I wasn't looking forward to system analysis but I am glad I took it with him. He also helped me to understand more of what to expect with different career paths of being a CIS major. Highly recommend... lol, even if he is a cat person!

You mainly work in groups throughout the entire semester (so make sure youre in a good group) especially if you know nothing about computer science. This is a drawing class so you will have draw diagrams here and there. Do not share or copy answers he hates when you do that ! 2 exams plus a final, no homework, and there is quizzes

Best professor I've ever had. He's super nice and cares about his students. He has office hours everyday and works with you if you need extra help. Definitely take him for this class, you won't regret it.

really cool guy. course has a lot of assignments that can seem overwhelming but if youre somewhat familiar with word, excel, access and powepoint then it shouldnt be too hard. SIMbooks are time consuming but if you sit down and do everything within them the project and exams will be a lot easier. responds to emails very quickly and has office hours

HIGHLY recommend taking professor Kelley!! He is very laid back, will explain whatever you need him to, and he gives tons of extra credit. The course itself is a lot of work and you definitely have to be motivated to complete it all, but if you turn in every assignment its very easy to get an A in the class without doing well on any of the exams!

Don't get me wrong, this class had a lot of things due every week. But the professor is GREAT. Responds quickly, is there to help, really nice,and gives a MAJOR extra credit oppurunity, that nearly makes it impossible to fail the course. Take him if you can. Just put in the work and you'll be good.

I can't put more into words how amazing Professor Kelley is. He gives you more opportunity than you can imagine to get an A. 2 exams, 3 data driven projects, 4 simulations, and LearnSmart assignments. Grade totals to 115%. If you do all of the LearnSmarts, score well on the projects, and do the sims, you can fail both tests and get an A.

This class was difficult but Prof Kelley is very kind and understanding. He is funny and wants you to succeed in his class. Attendance not mandatory, but homework is on SimNet and is due before the end of the day of your class. 2 lessons and projects due a week, and review imo wasn't very helpful.

Prof Kelley is easily the best teacher on campus. He's already done very well for himself in life so he teaches because he wants to. He cares for his students and is very understanding. As long as you do your assignments you should make an easy A (if you go to class its much easier). I finished the class with a 106 and I wish I could take it again.

Prof Kelley is an great person and his lectures are very interesting even its a 8am class. Homework and projects are done online. There are 2 exams so make sure to read the textbook. Theyre taken online but in class. Attendance isnt mandatory but recommend going as he shares things about projects and tests that you wouldnt know if you never go

Literally the best professor ever. Hes so helpful and flexible and works with you to make sure you finish with an A. As long as you actually do your work you will receive a good grade. He offers lots of extra credit to ensure you get a good grade. Go to class, do your homework, youll do well.

If you fail this class, it's probably your fault. As long as you put in the work, you will be fine. Professor Kelley is very helpful and provides extremely comprehensive reviews, and if you do them you will do fine on the tests. Weekly lessons and projects but never too hard. He is hilarious and you only have to go to class if you have below an 80.

Professor Kelley is the BEST CIS professor. He does make you work for your grade, but, come the end of the semester and he is extremely flexible about helping you make an A. Yes, you must do all of your work. Yes, the tests are stressful but with him as your professor, you're guaranteed to succeed!

Professor Kelley is amazing! Exams can be stressful, but he does everything he can to help you get a good grade in the class. You still need to put in the work to actually understand how to use microsoft office. You don't have to come to class if you made above an 80 on that day's assignment. Exams were in person. Definitely sign up for his class.

Always there to help you and gives great feedback. Class is a lot easier if you don't have a MAC. Very very nice guy and wants you to succeed. highly recommend taking him, I have no complaints.

His class isn't hard if you keep up with the lessons and mini-projects. Those aren't even that hard but you can definitely get confused but he's really helpful. His office hours are a definite go-to if you feel confused. He also offers extra credit, you can do poorly on the tests and still get a good overall course grade.

Professor Kelley is by far the best professor! This class can be difficult something but if you turn in the assignment on Time then nothing to worry about. He make class enjoyable and the exam is lowkey hard but if you do the review then you should be good. Please take this professor

Dr. Kelley is very knowledgeable about the business world and will give you genuine advice. Overall, he is a good/entertaining lecturer that makes class enjoyable. However, the projects are done entirely outside of class time and require you to use excel skills that are not covered in class. Start them early. Tests/HW are easy but long.

One of the best professors that I have had. This man is very smart and his lectures are interesting. He tries to teach his students to think outside of the box to come up with business ideas. I would love to have the opportunity to take him for another class.

Mr. Kelley is very knowledgeable and genuinely cares about his students. There are multiple projects that are weighted heavily, but with his help it's more than possible to ace. I highly suggest going to class to hear his tips & tricks, and to hear other people's questions. Stay on top of things!

Professor Kelley is an amazing professor to take! He is kind and is helpful when it comes to the projects throughout the semester. The class is tough, but if you do the Smartbook assignments before class and ask for help on the projects when needed you will do good! (Also he brought full size candy bars on Halloween for every student :) )

He's a cool dude, a little arrogant, but he deserves to be. Cares about his students and the course is pretty straightforward. Show up to class and do the assignments on time. Tests suck but there are so many other grades to counterbalance your awful scores.

Prof. Kelley is super flexible when it comes to this course. If you do the assignments before the class day allotted to work on them, attendance is optional. The only day you MUST go is testing days. Coursework is all self-taught, he's just there to answer any questions. Super easy class, worth it to take an early section to get him as a professor.

I took it over the summer, otherwise the course would have been much easier. He knows what he's talking about so he's a tougher grader on homework/tests. If you don't show up to class, you aren't going to do well. He makes the class far more interesting than other professors. He is also very available to help with questions you may have. Take him!

The class is very concept heavy, but Professor Kelley makes lectures interesting by talking about his own experiences in business to relate to coursework. 3 projects, super easy, and tests that derive from smartbook questions. As long as you study a little, and show up to lectures, this class is a breeze.

The entire class was group simulations using ERP technology. If you don't show up and aren't helpful to your group, your grade will suffer because of it. It makes the class exciting, but can also be stressful near the end of the semester. Overall a very fun advanced elective taught in an engaging way. Would definitely take again!

One of the best professors in Mccoy. He's extremely qualified and is here to help. His class can sometimes be tedious or difficult, but he has so many opportunities to get help. He also has an incredible amount of extra credit available. Just try and you'll do great

Pop Quizzes in class on days with low attendance. Do all the smartbooks, projects, and sims and you will be fine. Got C's on both of my tests, bombed a sim and I am finishing with a 100 in the class. Offers extra credit and lots of McGraw Hill stuff but do your work and you will be fine. He can come off as mean but is super helpful. took two times

TAKE PROF KELLEY! This class is known to be extremely difficult, but he did a phenomenal job with teaching. He is one of those professors who actually care and he super accessible outside of class. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does do occasional "pop" quizzes where you just email him the word he mentioned in class.

Professor Kelley is a great professor! He expects you to work hard for a good grade. You'll need to read the textbook and take lots of notes. He provides many opportunities for extra credit, so make sure to utilize them. He wants you to learn the material and will challenge you. If you work hard, you will get an A. He is not always clear, especially when you send an email with multiple questions. Can get passive aggressive. Or he's just being real, depends on how you see it. He gives a lot of opportunities for you to make the grade that you desire. I would highly recommend you go to office hours over Zoom for clarification on expectations.

Mr. Kelley works to bring his experience running IT departments and companies to his lectures in class. I think this is what the earlier poster was on about with "WENT ON, AND ON about himself". Multiple choice work, 2 MC exams, and 3 projects. Has bonus and takes late work. If you got less than a B in here, you worked at it.

Entire course is cumulative, but its programming, so you have to know everything before to get what you are doing now. The professor understands how hard this course is so he gives more than one opportunity to fix old work. Final exam was a take home project. The actual final exam period was actually your third chance to fix your final project.

This is my second class I am taking with Professor Kelley, and its an 8 am in person when I had plenty of options to take the class online. I have no regrets in doing so because once again I am thankful to be in his class. He does a great job in lecture and has a lot of knowledge. He cares a lot about his students. Definitely take his class.

The professor is okay, but I didn't really enjoy this class. Assignments are given during class, so you have to attend or know someone, and we only get 3–4 days for tough coding assignments. The optional final is nice, but I wouldn't take this class again.

Kelley was charismatic. Do not miss class, he loves punishing people who arent in class. Do your reading and try not freak out over little things.

Love Professor Kelley but not so much the class. He tries his best to maintain a good relationship with students and keeps us engaged and entertained in the course. Most of the course material is self-taught but he is very available to help you in and outside of class if you apply yourself. Get ready to read and have to put some effort in for real.

Challenging class, but Professor Kelley tries his best to help. He provided significant extra credit opportunities after a brief period of absence/Zoom classes, and he is helpful to students. I would take him again however I'll admit he talks a lot. Also btw if your taking ISAN 3305 we just made your class a lot harder :-).

Attendance was never mandatory. As long as you go to class you will end with an A! No assignments throughout the entire semester until the week before finals. Very interesting class.

Dont ever misspell his last name, he is serious about it. I misspelled his name on my final project and I recieved a -100 on an assignment. Great guy though!
