Dr. Osner is really nice and very helpful. He is relatively new at teaching, but he knows his organic chemistry well. There is no homework that you need to turn in, but there are assigned problems that he highly recommends. Also midterms and a comprehensive final, but he drops the lowest midterm. The class is very fast faced to be prepared!!!
fairly new teacher, but very good. his notes come directly from the book, but he clarifies and explains better in lectures. no homework, just optional practice problems. he emails practice exam questions and his exams match perfectly.
He might be new at teaching, but he know the stuff and he matches perfect his notes with the books. I have never seen a helpful professor as he is. He gives you everything that will be on the test, he makes one hour review besides the lecture hours. He is a nice guy and a really helpful professor.
He was a good teacher but now he has started taking advice from szpunar!! and we all know she's the worst orgo teacher. He's going to be making his tests a lot harder now
Very helpful, very clear, and SO FUNNY. I love his lectures. He will randomly talk about current events. He keeps me interested in orgo. I'm taking him again next semester. read the chapter before going to lecture. MAKE SURE TO DO THE PROBS AND PRACTICE TESTS REPEATEDLY!
Very knowledgable and funny in a dorky way. His notes do match the textbook and just like any other orgo class, it is fast paced. Be prepared to dedicate many hours into Orgo. He's also very helpful and in my opinion boyishly handsome. Great guy, great teacher. Relatively new but you won't regret taking his class.
Not only is he sexy but he is very helpful and gets me motivated to go to class in the morning. Do the practice test they help a lot on what areas to focus studying on.
He is always willing to help in office hours. His exams have been very close to his practice tests (DO THEM!). Discussions are helpful too because he gives us test-like problems. Some days I feel like I am wasting my time in class because he follows the book that well (yes, that is a criticism and a compliment). I wish he used colored chalk.
Osner is an awesome guy. He looks like he used to be a drummer for a punk bad. He is very clear and follows the book. His exams aren't too bad but the grading curve can make what seems like a good score an average grade, which sucks. Overall I liked him and I am signed up for his section next year. Take!
He's dope. Dont miss class. Do the homework problems and practice exams & you'll be golden. Its organic, put the time in & don't be a lazy schmuck.
Osner is extremely attractive and a great, great teacher. Orgo is hard but he genuinely wants you to do well. Go to class, take good notes, do as many of the homework problems as you can, study study study. He answers questions and is a really fun professor. Tests are difficult, but the curve is helpful. Would highly recommend.
He is probably the best orgo professor out there. He is funny, helpful, and knows his stuff very well. He makes orgo look a lot easier. He goes out of his way to help you and wants you to do well. His jokes make the class interesting. He is one of the best professors you will ever have. He is kinda young and new to Loyola. #Respectforosner
Dr. Osner, yeaaaaaaah budddy. He's got moxie.
Dr.Osner is a great professor. He is extremely FAIR, nice, and helpful(a quality not many science profs at loyola have). If you do your work, you will get an A or at least a B. He rewards you for ur effort & work. He is really funny and makes organic chemistry fun and doable.I have been at Loyola for 2 years, and he is is the best professor so far.
Osner somehow makes organic chemistry enjoyable. Great lecturer. He's crystal clear and follows the book very closely. He's also approachable and helpful both in and out of class. He wants students to succeed, and if you put in the time to learn the material (this is still orgo, so you do have to work) you will do well.
Summer with Osner for CHEM 101 made me actually like Chemistry. His lectures are very clear, though he tends to write quite an amount. MasteringChemistry homework is part of the grade BUT 20 points goes toward extra credit if you finish all the assignments. Plus he's extremely attractive. Sort of like a Joseph-Gordon Levitt nerd-like quality.
GREAT professor!! Charismatic, funny, and intelligent. TAKE DR. OSNER! He is a great professor and loves what he does. Tests are straight forward, he has review sessions before each exam. 3 exams; drops the lowest. 1 final. Uses Mastering Chemistry. No other points.
He's okay. 90% of his exam questions are fairly straightforward and then the last 10% or so are very hard.
Awesome professor! His class can be a little boring because all he does is lecture and write everything on the board for 50 mins. His tests are 25 multiple choice 4 pts each but if you show work he gives partial credit. Exam was pretty straightforward with 50 multiple choice. He wants to see you succeed. Take him if you have the chance!
As a non-chem major, Dr. Osner is a great choice for chemistry professors at Loyola. You can tell he has a passion for his work and wants his students to do well. Drops the lowest exam, final is cumulative, 25 multiple choice at 4 pts each. Lecture can be boring at times, but overall he's great.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! REALLY COOL GUY! You will learn a lot in his class, he is very nice and relatable. Go to class, take good notes, and ask questions.
For being a subject I hate, he does a great job at making it go as smoothly as possible. And for being a large lecture, he does a very good job at learning most of the students names. Definitely recommend him!
Hate the subject, love the prof. He's a very good professor, but he is definitely not a hand holder. Will be a bit of a shocker if you're fresh out of high school. He doesn't tell you when your homework is due, and it's not always due on the same day so stay on top of it. You need to study and put in a bit of work, but a good grade is attainable.
Really helpful, very clear. Made organic chemistry bearable. Very highly recommended. :)
Dr. Osner can easily described as a bro. He is just a fun guy to talk to and a great teacher. During his discussions, he will give out practice problems that you can work on as a group. Then, he'll go over them in class to make sure everyone understands them. His step by step review of each problem helped me get an A. I highly recommend him.
Great chemistry professor no matter how interested you maybe in the subject. No need to read the book, but be prepared to take notes the entire time in class. His exams are doable and I've heard he is very helpful during office hours if you need extra help.
This guy is the best. You have to come to class because all of the notes are written on the board for you to copy. Tests were very fair and there was always enough time to finish them. There was a LOT of extra credit as well. Certainly one of the best if not the best chemistry teacher
Amazing teacher; take him!! Lectures are so easy to follow. Discussion is extremely helpful (mandatory attendance to discussion). Very intelligent and funny. Exams are very fair, not easy though. He is very sensible. Do Mastering Chemistry, study a lot for exams, attend every class and you can definitely get a B at least. Drops lowest exam!
Crystal clear professor. His lectures were easy to learn from. The tests, although difficult, were very fair. Always available for extra help. There was a very small amount of extra credit to make up for the fact that there was no curve. Learned a lot but I felt he became sort of full of himself toward the end. The clearest chem teacher at Loyola.
He is super helpful when you ask him questions. His tests are pretty straight forward and he warns you what the longer free response questions will be. He explains why the reactions work instead of just showing you the reactions. His tests are not impossible if you are willing to put in the work. He is very approachable and helpful
The best chemistry prof out there, really takes time to explain everything. Gives a study guide and practice test before all exams so you can really prepare. Plus he curves generously according to how the class does.
Osner is great! I had him freshmen year for Chem 101 and this past semester for Organic Chem. His lectures are very clear, and he genuinely wants everyone to do well. He gives three tests and a final. The lowest test score is dropped. He also gives extra points for attending all the discussions. Writes notes on board. Overall very good. Take him :)
Osner is by far a great Organic Chem Lecturer. Obviously the content is difficult but he makes it clear in his lectures. Put in the work he asks for and you'll be rewarded.
Firstoff, he's hot. But anyway, I loved his orgo class. He tells you exactly which mechanisms you need to know for each test so you don't get blindsided at all. He will also usually tell you what kind of questions the long answers will be. He's hilarious and also his office hours are great practice since he works out problems for everyone there.
Amazing professor! Writes all his notes on the board so you just have to copy. Discussions are mandatory but he gives 8 points extra credit if you attend all of them. Mastering chem is easy and he only counts 50 out of the 60 points. The rest is extra credit. Super generous grading scale too. If you want an easy A and a good professor, take him!
Dr. Osner is a great professor, and is one of the best Chemistry professors at Loyola. Although he offers a lot of help, his exams aren't a whole lot easy. To get that easy A, you will need to still study and put in a lot of effort. Going to his office hours will help as well. Overall, he is very clear and helpful. And he's hot!
Wouldn't say it's an easy A, but you can get a good grade if you work hard and practice. His notes are super clear and his tests only cover stuff covered beforehand in class. The greatest teacher in the department and he's an awesome guy, really easy to relate to and ask for help. You will learn a lot! On top of that, he's my mcm and im straight.
Exams are very hard. Only likes you if you sit in first two rows. Definitely not a fan of his.
Dr. Osner is a fantastic teacher! He takes time to write out all his notes on the board. Is always down to help students and answer questions. Have to read the book, and if you miss a class, you're screwed. His tests may be a bit difficult, but he offers XC for going to all discussions (which are very helpful). I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Osner is really funny and a great teacher! His lectures are very clear and is very helpful when studying for the test. There is mastering chemistry and the three tests are about 20 Q's and 5 free response. Dr. Osner drops one of the tests and the final is just like his other tests. If I don't get him for second semester I'll cry :'(
Hilarious, nice guy. 3 tests w lowest dropped, 1 cumulative final, online homework, and discussion makes your grade. He gives a lot of extra credit. Very helpful and clear cut. His tests are kind of difficult but doable. He writes all his notes on the board clearly. Absolutely love him. Taking him next semester in fact. MUST TAKE.
His class average was a 60% an all 3 tests, still he seems oblivious as to why that is. His tests have nothing to do with what you do in class or discussion. You can kill yourself studying and still end up with failing grades. He has to give extra credit in order to make up for his terrible testing skills.
Dr. Osner is a gem of the Loyola staff. He is one of the greatest chemistry professors you can take here. He has 3 exams and drops your lowest grade. Lecture's are all hand written on the board by him so it is very easy to keep up. I would HIGHLY recommend taking Osner!!
Cool guy, cares about his students.
He's a very clear lecturer, but he doesn't care about how well his students do. he can be very condescending wjen students ask questions. Also, the final for this class is cumalitve for the whole year, which he failed to mention until a week before the exam.
He doesn't seem too interested in the class. Tests are harder than practice tests. Look elsewhere for a chem professor.
Osner is phenomenal. The lectures were long, but he makes them interesting and fun. Very relaxed, but still serious about the subject. Orgo Chem is his forte. I highly recommend. Discussions are well designed. Study, study, study!!!! It's orgo and supposed to be difficult!
He did not seem to care about the majority of his students with the exception of a couple girls. One was a friend of mine who said he flat out gave her the answers to a test question. He gave off the impression that he does not care if his students do well in his class and was difficult to meet with for help. He can be VERY rude and condescending.
Dr. Osner is one of the best professors I have ever had at Loyola! He's always there to help you out and he really knows his stuff. Organic Chemistry is a challenging class in general but it was a little bit more bearable with him.
I've had this guy for gen chem 2 and orgo 2 and I just do not understand the hype. Hands down the most overrated professor at Loyola. He jumps around and mentions stuff in class that isn't important for actual science concepts. He is a really cool guy, but a very average teacher. His classtests are just significantly easier than other profs.
One of my favorite professors!!! As long as you pay attention in class, understand the material/concepts, do the mastering assignments, and do the practice exam, you'll do well. Personally, I loved his teaching style and I liked when he would incorporate real world examples into his lectures.
Osner is perhaps a little overrated, but is a good professor (especially compared to others). He drops the lowest of three tests, and is fairly clear in lecture, but could be so much clearer (I came in knowing chemistry and the way he explains some things is deliberately more complex than it has to be). Overall easy to do well if you put in effort.
Osner is my favorite!! Although his lectures are long, he writes every thing he says on the board and he knows what he is talking about. His notes are easy to understand. Tests are based off discussion worksheets and the practie tests he posts prior to the test. Take him!
Very easy to understand during lecture. He takes off a lot of Mastering points, however, he also drops your lowest test and gives extra credit if you go to every discussion. Tests weren't necessarily a cake walk, but they were fair for the most part. If you put in the work, you will get an A. Do not buy the textbook! We didn't use it once.
TAKE! TAKE! TAKE! Don't pass the opportunity to have one of the funniest and best professors at Loyola. Put in work and you will get an A! There are a lot of extra credit points at the end and just make sure to do the Mastering Chemistry homework.
He's very clear during lectures. His lectures can be long and you should expect them to go the entire time. Discussion is easy and is mostly just good practice for the tests. He usually gives out similar questions to what will be on the test in discussion. His lectures follow the book super closely, rereading the book after lecture helps a lot.
Osner is a great teacher, lectures are extremely clear. His discussions give you a good look at what the tests are like and if you go to his office hours, he's very helpful. Reading the book is not really necessary as he coves the material he tests on well in class. That being said, if you want a good grade, you have to attend the classes.
Dr. Osner is an incredibly great & clear instructor. His lectures are almost word for word from the textbook. His lectures couldn't be clearer. Attendance in discussion or lecture are NOT mandatory but don't expect 2 pass w/out it. drops lowest of 3 midterm grades. Mastering Chem, only downfall. GO TO OFFICE HOURS he is incredibly helpful! EC poss.
While Dr. Osner is super funny, his lectures were long and it was hard to focus. Also, his Mastering Chemistry assignments were extremely difficult and didn't really pertain to what we were learning in class. His tests are also pretty difficult. But he's more than willing to help if you ask for it, and his notes are pretty easy to follow.
I loved Dr. Osner but became very discouraged in his class. Nice guy, however the homework was incredibly hard on mastering, and didn't really help at all when coming to exams. It was not always clear what would be on the exam, and the down fall for me was not enough practice probs or explanations, the lec felt like I was just copying definitions
Best professor ever. If you have a chance to take this guy do it.
Amazing guy, talks about his cats a lot. Grading scale makes life less difficult. Go to discussion and class if you want to do well.
Dr. Osner is great. His grading scale is generous and exams are not too difficult if you study the material and practice. It is not an easy class but an A is doable if you work hard and study. He drops an exam and a quiz. Make sure you attend all the discussions as this helps w/ the material. Put in the work and you'll get the grade you want.
Lectures are taken straight from the book, but the book can be helpful for topics that are glossed over in lecture. Exams are fair and test only on covered material, but averages hovered around a B/B-, sometimes at a C+. Practice problems are optional but helpful, though problems from discussions are more helpful with preparing for his exams.
Osner is one of the better Orgo teachers. He gives quizzes and you get discussion points with exams but his grading scale is so lenient. It really gets easier to get a B- to a C- in this class with ease. He understands it is a tough class and is a very good professor. He explains stuff well and is passionate.
I had taken Osner before for Chem 101, but for Orgo, I wouldn't recommend him. He's a great professor, but the belief that he is easy screwed me over. I didn't work early enough, so if you take him be prepared to work.
Probably one of the best organic chem professors here. The class was tough and you will need to do a lot of practice problems
I loved Dr. Osner's lectures. Everything was broken down into very clear pieces and he stops lecture to answer questions. His tests are challenging but very fair. You have to study a lot and work fast, but they are very doable. Also, do the mastering chem assignments. he chooses the difficult questions and they really help your understanding
Prof Osner wants the best for you, but doesn't want to put in work. His final is cumulative (101+102) so be prepared. He drops one of the 3 midterm exams. His home is extremely hard, so just be careful and devote time.
Class is ridiculous. He barely gives any time on tests/quizzes. Only way you can finish is if you think and write at lightening speed. I guess that's his way of ensuring that people don't do well. He has definitely turned into one of the hardest chem professors. Mostly self-teaching in this class. Would not recommend.
Nope, hard and condescending. The final is cumulative over this semester and 101, the mastering chem is hard, and he has very unrealistic expectations. The whole class is struggling. Not very patient, you will have to teach yourself. I got an A last semester with reasonable work, but this semester has been a nightmare.
I took him with the mindset that he would be easier than other professors, but honestly taking him was one of the worst decisions of my life. He is insanely difficult! Quizzes are v hard, and even though he lets you drop one, they are so hard that you end up with 4 quizzes that you need to drop. Also he is very condescending! Avoid at all costs
Super condescending and clearly doesn't care about the individual students. I took him because I heard that it was an easy A and I would learn a lot, but I can safely say that I taught myself most of the material and still ended up with a D. Avoid at all costs
I took Dr. Osner for CHEM101, and the difficulty of the class has changed significantly. He's probably still the lesser of all evils, but buckle up kiddos, because this is going to be a wild ride. Invest in Chegg and/or the answer manual for Mastering. The final is cumulative over all of gen chem, so don't count on it to save your grade.
Hard class, but definitely doable if you have the mindset to work hard and study. If you do well on the mastering Chem you will get xtra cr at the end which helps out. If you can most of the mastering Chem problems and understand them you will be fine. Just be prepared to put in the time and utilize office hours because he can be very helpful then
Dr. Osner is the best Chem 101 professor. He writes all his notes on the board, so lectures move at a really steady pace. While there is no attendance at lecture or discussion, I would highly recommend going because some of the book topics arent necessary. Hes really approachable if you ever need help too.
As expected, Orgo is hard. But Osner makes it bearable because he is funny and nice and really cares about his students. Don't be afraid to go to office hours, it's really helpful if you don't understand something. Best Chem professor I've ever had
Very helpful lectures. He is very good at clarifying difficult topics and makes a dull subject enjoyable and relevant.
Dr. Osner is the BEST chem prof! everyone knows how messed up the chem dept is but Dr. O not only CARES that you are learning, but he is also funny and relatable. He actually makes what seems like a scary subject fun and interesting and you will want to learn. Work hard in his class and go to office hours and will definitely pay off!
everyone says he's an easy A, he's not. Yes, definitely the best choice out of the others but chem is not an easy class. Maybe his first test was a joke, but his test format makes it tough and quizzes are graded hard. Need to put In the work but a good grade is possible. Final was really rough
Accessible. If you have had Chem before he is a solid choice, if not, I don't think he gives enough example problems. His HW is on Aleks which is similar to Khan Academy- 10% of grade. He grades his quizzes (15%) hard and they are hand written. You really have to budget your time with his tests, they are 25 MC but very hard and if you miss 3 Q B+
Osner is the best! I had him for gen chem as well as organic and he is by far my favorite professor. I am TERRIBLE at chemistry and his class was really hard, but if you go into his office hours he really looks out for you! He's super clear one-on-one and cares that his students understand the material. He's also pretty funny and quirky, good dude
meh at best. there's better ones.
I took a chem102 section that was taught by him and Helquist, and he is the only reason this class was bearable. Osner is funny, approachable, and writes out all his notes on the board when he teaches. His lectures are clear and concise, and when he taught I was actually able to learn things. He's very willing to help you succeed.
I took the chem 102 that he co taught with Helquist and he is the only reason I survived in this class. His lectures are very easy to follow and understand and he is willing to help you outside of class! Has a great sense of humor.
Dr. Osner is the shining gem of Loyola's horrible chemistry department. Lectures are clear and tell you everything you need to know. If you do the Aleks homework and read the textbook, the getting an A is pretty easy. His chem 102 class is definitely harder though.
Dr. Osner is probably the best organic chemistry professor as far as explaining the material goes. Watch out for his tests though, they're pretty hard.
Take this man! He cares about his students and is always winning to help the students out. Exams are a tricky but as long you study the material and remember stuff from orgo 1, then you will blow right by it. He lets you use a cheat sheet!!!!!
I do not understand the hype around this guy. He's funny and sarcastic but he's not as good as everyone says he is. His exams are much harder than lecture and I feel like he does not give enough examples. And he gives SO many practice problems to do before the exam that aren't even on the exam. He's better than most but make sure to study yall
LOTS of homework. I ended up dropping the class because I was putting all my work towards one class. He is just an okay teacher nothing great. Try to do really good on the first exam, then you may be able to pass. I had to go tharpy because of the Loyola chem dept. I almost took my life but got help. Good luck with chem at Loyola.
Great professor. Cares about all his students. Go to office hours with questions, he easily clears things up. This semester he did post videos of his lectures online for students to watch again if needed. Uses ALEKS and has problems from the textbook (free response on the test!!!). Exams are hard but if you go to class and study it's not that bad.
This class made me consider dropping out
Osner is a pretty nice person, but he's not a great professor. He drops lowest test grade and lowest quiz grade, which sounds nice, until you realize class averages on tests are C's or lower and he refuses to curve. ALEKS homework is extremely heavy. His teaching doesn't always compare to what's on the tests. There are better 101 professors.
Osner is a good guy. He gets sad when students don't understand the material and encourages students to come to office hours. the online homework he assigns is annoying but helpful. I studied for 4 days, four hours a night, before the tests and I still found them to be difficult.
first of all, the dude has a phd and doesn't own a laptop: do not expect him to answer any of your emails, if you have questions just go to office hours. the system he uses for assignments is really annoying, so if you dont already have a decent chem background, be prepared to work harder. there are definitely worse chem professors at luc.
Osners' class starts out easy. The first exam was easy. The second exam is 100x harder. Helpful during hours. He doesn't curve AT ALL. 3 exams 7 quizzes, drops the lowest from each. Be ready to put in effort and work, even if he's not the hardest he expects you to work for it. Not the best, not the worst. Recommend him of you're ready to work.
I failed chemistry in highschool. I got an A in this class. He is an amazing professor who is accessible outside of class and willing to work through problems with you, even explaining things in different ways until you understand the material. His tests are not difficult if you 1) read the book 2) rewatch hard lectures on panopto 3) do problems
Lectures and homework are not at all what the exams are. First exam is really easy, then the next two are impossible. You can study for hours but still not know what to do on the exams. Rumors said he curved if the class average is really low, but he doesnt not curve. I felt like I didnt learn anything in this class. Take any other professor
Honestly, he's not worth it. I took him because of the good reviews he had, but clearly, those were misleading. Exams were super tricky & time-consuming, a lot of people weren't able to finish on time. Even though he drops a quiz or exam, it doesn't help because all of them are super tricky. 2nd exam class average - 40%. Didn't even curve.
don't take him. it's an impossible class that will ruin your GPA. I took AP chem in high school but decided to take chem again at loyola to boost my GPA. boy was i wrong.
Osner really is an amazing chemistry professor. Chemistry is hard but he makes it bearable by making his lectures easy to follow, being accessible outside of class, and truly caring. If you're willing to put in the work, you will succeed. There is no easy A professor in chemistry because it isn't an easy A subject. However, it is doable with osner.
Dr. Osner is an incredible professor. I was under the impression he would be an "easy A" but he's not, he is just a really good teacher. He jokes with the class but still covers all the material you need to know. Final is harder than tests, I had a solid A before, but I would recommend his class nonetheless. Phenomenal lecturer, I'd take him again
Appalled. DO NOT TAKE. This class in very difficult, for no reason. I understand chemistry is difficult, thus is it should not be an easy A. However, Osner makes the class terribly complex for no reason. The test are too long for anyone to finish, HW is not helpful, and is dissmive towards students. The exams are nothing like the courses material.
Im very surprised. This class was so disorganized and hard. The instructor goes too fast, assigns irrelevant HW, and gives exams that are very lengthy and nothing of the nature that was from class, the textbook, or HW. Office hours are not of use, and was left feeling intimidated. Save your GPA and sanity, by taking a different professor. Shame.
Osner's class taught me how to study. Exam's weren't easy, but he gives you the resources you need to succeed. Your success in his class depends on how much effort you are willing to put in. His lectures, however, are crystal clear and very straightforward, although sometimes he moves quickly. He's a great professor, and I learned so much from him
Not good. Take different professor. Learn to teach dude.
DO NOT TAKE! Osner could use an attitude adjustment. Judgmental. Makes simple concepts confusing, and isnt accessible outside class. He can be very condescending during office hours, if he gives you the time of day that is.
Save you me GPA and sanity. This class is Train wreck. Im quite surprised.
He can be nice and knowledgeable, however, he is is very fast paced and assigns irrelevant homework. Test are too long to finish and not like the classes material. There are better professors.
Professor Osner was probably one of the better Chem 101 teachers but if you want to do well, you have to really work for it. His tests were hard and didn't really relate to his lectures so you have to do all of the EOC problems to do well.
zach is the man!!! probably overhyped but he gives u everything u need to succeed if you do poorly its on you not him. His organic II exams are a bit too rushed other than that id say 10/10. Orgo is hard no matter who u get but Osner makes it possible to succeed if you try enough
I thought he was great! He's super approachable and kind. He video records his lectures, drops one exam and one quiz. An overall good orgo experience, considering the content is difficult by nature. If you study you'll do well!
I took him for CHEM 101 and he was the first chem professor whose chem class I scored well in. If you study well-taken notes from lecture and just listen to what he tells you to learn, you will do well in his class. He likes to refer to practice problems done on quizzes or in discussion, so learn from those!
I went to his office hours once, and asked him a question but apparently I didn't know what i was talking about. SO he kicked me out of his office hours and told me to study more and then come back. I do not think I have ever had a more condescending or petty professor before. There's definitely better profs out there, save yourself.
I wish he taught every class at LUC. Hes THE BEST. Hes not easy but he has reasonable expectations and is always available to help. He makes orgo doable but you have to put in the effort. If you want a good orgo experience I highly recommend
If you don't frequent office hours, be prepared to be treated like you don't exist. Gives off an arrogant vibe. Decent prof, to be fair, but exams are very difficult.
Osner is perhaps the best orgo professor. He records all of his lectures, writes his notes out on the board at a digestable pace, and is always open to questions. He gives you all the materials you need to succeed and if you do not it is on you. Orgo is a class unlike any other science class before it but if you read the textbook you will be fine.
Osner teaches everything so clearly and gives you everything you need to succeed in his class. If you don't, it's on you. His exams are very straightforward but the subject material requires a lot of studying and practice to do well. Definitely utilize his office hours and ask questions, he's super helpful.
Dr. Osner is a very accessible professor, utilizing office hours helps a lot. However, if you fall behind on material, its very hard to catch up so do not take OChem if you cant dedicate time to it! Dr. Osner is a fair grader and does what he can to make sure his students succeed, but the final exam is harder than it has to be in my opinion.
I absolutely loved taking Dr. Osner for Orgo1. The material isn't easy, but just so you keep up with it and do lots of practice problems it is possible to get an A! He hand writes his notes on the board which makes it easier to keep up with, assigns wiley hw for points, and all quizzes are group quizzes. One of my favorite professors so far!
After the 2nd exam everything gets really hard- final included. Owner is nice but not extremely accessible. A very smart guy, expects you to keep up and understand. WileyPLUS for homework but is good material to study as he picks out the questions for the class. tests are hardwritten by him- sometimes he makes mistakes.
Osner is a great professor. The material is difficult but knows a lot about the subject and is VERY good at explaining things. His lectures are organized which helps a lot for Orgo. He expects you to know the material well but he also prepares you well if you keep up with the work and study the material. Super nice guy and a great professor!
Very simples lectures. Definitely go to class as lecture material and examples are basically his questions on the test. He is very helpful and went above and beyond to help me not only with the material, but also my future in chemistry. Possibly the teacher I respect the most.
He is a great guy, intersting, hilarious, and he is a fantastic teacher. There is WileyPlus homework 3 times a week which is not bad at all. However, his tests and quizzes are killer. I do many hours a day of orgo, I do all the book practice problems. He's also a harsh grader. It is so hard to do well in this class no matter the work you put in.
Osner is a good lecturer even online, but his tests are crazy hard. He expects you to know a lot and is a tough grader. I studied so much for his exams and barely scraped by. I took this class over a 6-week course, 4 exams, 4 quizzes and 1 final. Even though I learned a lot and knew the material I didn't do very well. I wish I knew this before.
Better than the average professor. Heavy lectures. A LOT of notes but he explains every concept in detail. The only problem I have with his class is the tests/quizzes. They are always way too long! I have NEVER once finished an exam or quiz. His exams get harder as they go and usually look nothing like what's been taught in class.
Very thorough lectures, emphasizes mechanisms and understanding rather than memorization; decent amount of the content 30% is not in Klein textbook so you really do need to attend lecture and take notes. Highly accessible at office hours and clearly answers questions. Tests are fair, you know what to expect, graded fair to arguably generous.
His lectures a decent but he goes by so fast. He's also nice but his exams are so hard for no reason. The class averages are usually pretty low so don't be shocked unless ya'll do better. Wiley hrw is helpful but a pain in the ... Just wish there were better STEM teachers especially in the Chem department. :(
Osner is good at teaching the material and making it understandable. O-chem is hard no matter what, but he makes it bearable. Exams are tough but curves them if the average is low and also lets you do corrections for some of the questions. Homework and quizzes are usually pretty easy. The final exam is hard but doable. He's also hilarious and cool.
This was the worst course I have ever taken. Zach is nice, but thats about it. His tests are hard and he does NOT lecture well. Quizzes and Wileyplus help. Organic Chem weeds students out. Don't be discouraged by professors who can't teach. Try your best. I guess he is one of the better profs that teaches Orgo?
Dr. Osner is a great professor for organic chemistry especially during online school. He uses a white board to explain the material and it's really straightforward. He emphasizes the importance of practicing, so there is a lot of wiley homework assigned but it really helps. To get an A in this class, you definitely need to put in a lot of work.
Thinks of every question he can and gives you like 34 seconds to finish an extremely long exam. Not a bad teacher but the lack of time given on the exams is a joke
Exams are WAY too long and never gives enough time... set up to fail
His lectures are synchronous, but you can choose to just watch them asynch. His lectures are very thorough and backed up with plenty of examples. His tests are definitely difficult, but there's a curve in the grading scale and exams are curved. I don't remember anything from 101 (bad prof) and that hasn't been an issue for me in his class.
I've taken Dr. Osner for all of my chem courses at Loyola but one (I took him for CHEM 101, 223, and 224), and he is a pretty amazing professor. His lectures are extremely organized, and he explains the material well. He's also very open to helping you outside of class and gives you many opportunities to practice the material. Straightforward exams
Osner is one of the best professors for orgo. Though my grade can't depict that, he really goes in depth in each lecture and provides you with ample opportunity to get as many points as possible. BUT THEN... you hit the exams. He is a super tough grader. You either get full points, half, or none. I wish he would be more lenient but oh well.
Dr. Osner was absolutely my favorite professor. You definitely need to study more, but its because chemistry is not easy. He lectures by writing on a board, no PowerPoints, and I loved that. I also did not read, and I ended up doing fine just on lecture material. He gives everything you possibly need to succeed in this class. Wiley assignments too
Professor Osner is amazing, I wish I took him/could take him for more classes. He really makes all the material you learn stick and cares about his students. He always welcomes questions, is interactive, and does not make exams crazy and unfamiliar. He makes organic chemistry interesting and makes it approachable.
Professor Osner was amazing. I thought he made this class super easy. He drops the lowest quiz and exam, he was super understanding through COVID, and he offered extra credit on homework this semester. Exams can be tough, but I didn't think they were bad. He curves the exams if the average is low. Best orgo professor hands down, so take him.
Cannot possibly recommend another Ochem professor. I had someone else for ochem 1 last semester and did not enjoy it. I came to Osner's class and it was like night and day. Makes things super easy to understand. You really have to work to understand the material because the exams are long and sometimes tough. Lectures are fantastic.
Avoid this prof unless you're godlike in chemistry. He acts like everyone has already taken the class, 1/7 of my class failed. Exams are a huge huge part of the grading system, the cumulative final was worth 40%. This class and professor made me want to switch my major. I studied so much for this class for the worst grade I've ever gotten.
Makes it reall easy to understand content in this class and is always ready to help.
He is trying a new grading scale where you have to master a set number of concepts and if you make one mistake on a question, the entire thing is wrong. It was very discouraging. Unless you are amazing at orgo, definitely avoid this professor. He is ok but there is no room for error which is very hard for students learning orgo for the first time.
Dr. Osner is a great professor. However, the new grading scale he is using is terrible. There are 25 concepts total and you need 20 to pass the class with a C-. There are multiple tries but there are no partial points. You have to work very hard for what seems like so little reward.
His new grading system is very polarizing. 23/25 FOs and 18/22 SSMs are required for an A. 20/25 FOs and 4/22 SSMs are required for a C-. (FOs are easier foundational topics, and SSMs are advanced topics.) No partial credit. As someone who already has 23/25 FOs, I don't mind it. My main critique is that he is very inaccessible outside of class.
Dr. Osner's new grading scale is VERY difficult to achieve. If you make one mistake , the entire problem is wrong. This is not the way to teach Orgo in my opinion. I often thought this class with this new grading scale should be reserved for graduate students earning a Masters/Doctorate.! Avoid if you love your GPA at all cost.
I actually like the grading system. It gives you second/third chances to learn what you hadn't learned the first time. I could skip the next exam AND the final and still pass with a B-. My main critiques are the prof's inaccessibility, disorganization, and crazy office hours of 30 people + all in the same room, resulting in no one-on-one time.
For chem101, I think hes one of the better professors. The stuff itself might be a bit confusing, but he explains it pretty well and will answer questions. Theres a lot of homework on alecks, pretty much 3 days a week and then group quizzes and three exams where one gets dropped. Hes clear on whats on the test and will review in discussions.
Osner started out well, but by Unit 2 and 3, he stopped answering emails, and stopped posting the useful resources onto Sakai that he did post for the first 2 units. He became less accessible, and students suffered. He also began using the Helquist grading system, but with his own terrible twist. Overall this semester with his was terrible.
Definitely a solid professor for gen. chem. You can breeze through his MC portion of his exams IF YOU STUDY. Short-response portions of his exams challenge you to think critically. Drops the lowest exam and quiz. Approachable and cares about student performance. Always willing to post helpful resources to prepare for the exam. Def one of the best.
In terms of the quality of his lectures, Dr. Osner is pretty good (disorganized, but pretty good). In terms of feedback/accessibility outside of class/clear communication, he is mediocre at best. I found the class to be a relatively easy A I was even able to skip the finalbut I was unable to receive assistance when I needed it.
Solid choice and pretty good at teaching, though I'd suggest sitting closeish to the front. Lectures went a little slow for me, but I already had AP Chem. Even if you struggle in chem you should be able to pass this one. I suggest reading the textbook, it really helped cement the lectures for me.
Dr Osner is probably one of my fav professors. Hes great at what he teaches. I knew nothing about chem and I learned a lot through him. Hes super funny and nice. He always made sure all the questions were answered. He connected with all of his students. 100% would take again. I highly recommend him. Its definitely a tough course though
Dr. Osner is a great professor and does a great job of getting the content across to his students. This semester he used a new grading system that many students, including myself, were not accustomed to which hurt many at the beginning. The grading system is not too bad but it does take some time getting used to. Expect exams every 3 weeks.
Dr Osner tried a new grading system for Orgo 1 and my experience wasn't as bad as others. He was clearly overwhelmed and disorganized, but I think he tried hard to help students and be flexible. No matter the grading system, he is a great lecturer and has intense exams. If you go to office hours he is very personable.
Dr. Osner makes his lectures very interesting by adding stories that make the class atmosphere light and non-boring. For CHEM-101 he went into great detail about every subject in order to give us a greater understanding. He seems like a very nice guy, and he somehow makes chem a little more enjoyable.
Dr. Osner is the best Chemistry professor. Take him if you can.
The best chem prof in the department. Great lecturer, explains concepts very well and is super open to helping students. Welcomes all questions and doesn't mind going over topics The only thing I would mention is that he doesn't respond to emails, so if you want to talk to him you'll have to catch him after class or during OH.
He is a good professor, funny, and has good lectures. He lets you use your notes for the quizzes and is willing to help whenever. He doesn't answer emails all the time. His exams are a tad tough but he gives you materials and formulas so you don't have to memorize everything. Aleks sucks and is time-consuming, but it helps with the material.
Even after switching my major out of Bio, I still love talking with Osner. I recommend him to all my friends who need orgo because he makes the class so enjoyable. I loved orgo because of him and he was a great help. You will absolutely succeed with him. He's great to talk to about non-chem too. His cat is adorable as well! If you can, TAKE HIM!!
Dr.Osner is amazing, I came into this class after hating the thought of Orgo due to a bad experience with another professor, but Dr.Osner not only teaches Orgo but he makes it some what enjoyable. Take him without any doubt, his exam questions are tough though but I would definitely take any class taught by Dr.Osner.
Osner is a great lecturer no doubt! However, I feel that his exam questions are extremely hard and are made to trick you. Sometimes there's not enough time for the number of questions he puts on the exams and there will be some that are left. I would take another professor instead such as May, his exams are straightforward and will not trick you.
He is good at keeping lecture interesting, but some statements he would tell us in class would prove to be wrong on the questions on the exam. There were also way too many questions on the exams for the amount of time given. Too many mechanisms and high expectations for the number of reactions we were supposed to remember in a small amount of time.
I would not recommend because a class as hard as organic chemistry should not have 100+ students. There's never enough time for everyone to ask questions and Osner can go all semester never learning your name. I think he gets a lot of good reviews because he's a likeable person (which he is), not necessarily because he's a great teacher.
Dr. Osner makes things very easy to understand and his lectures are always entertaining and captivating. I'm not a huge fan of chemistry, but if I have to take it I will continue with Dr. Osner. He sometimes has a blunt personality, but if you get to know him you will like him.
Dr. Osner is a good professor but the class was difficult. The tests were difficult and sometimes contained things that we didn't discuss a lot in class. There was A LOT of homework. I would recommend to take him if you don't mind a challenge. He also doesn't really respond to emails that often so it can be hard to reach him outside of class.
He is a very good professor and very good at explaining things, but his exams are a pain.
his exams are ball to wall insane, never put in so much time to receive such a low grade. aleks has almost given me a stroke a couple times, i wouldnt take him bc of that but then couple it with 3 25% 9 page exams with 15 seconds to complete and u have a recipe for failure! take him if u wanna do gen chem 2 for 40 hours a week outside of class
Prof Osner was very funny and a good person, but his lectures were somewhat unorganized and he gave few examples for the hard topics. Aleks homework is literally the worst. But overall, his tests were easy (ONLY IF YOU STUDIED A LOT). He is very picky with sig figs. Discussions are helpful for your grade so make sure to go. Use his exam study guide
One of the better chem professors but I still didn't like him very much. Homework helps the grade though.
Osner is goated. this is the first time I ever understood chemistry and enjoyed learning it. tests are extremely easy if you study but I had to study A LOT to feel that way. seems super intimidating but if you talk to him in office hours he is so nice. attendance is not mandatory but go to class. TAKE HIM he's an amazing teacher!
Going into gen chem, I was expecting Osner to be a lot "easier" compared to other professors - I was wrong. While Osner is one of the few profs in the dept who actually have a good personality, he is tough. Had to prep in advance a lot in terms of studying, which is to be expected. I heard hes awesome for orgo, but for gen chem, not so much.
Professor Osner is an amazing professor, however his tests can be very difficult so start studying early. His lectures are him writing on the board but I feel like I learn better this way than reading straight from a powerpoint lecture. Discussions were fairly easy and a good way to keep your grade up.
Professor Osner is a really great chem teacher. I've never really understood chem, but his lectures were very thorough and clear. I got a 40% on the first exam, but 100% on the second. He records and posts his lectures, as well as all the discussion WS. He also posts exam study guides. Overall a really nice person and a caring teacher.
(Fall 22) Best chem teacher I have ever had. Legitimately knew the content and knew how to teach it. I wish he had taught Chem 102 this semester, I would've done anything to have had him again.
I think he is the best orgo 2 professor. Tests are fair and not tricky, but you still gotta put in the effort. He drops the lowest exam and discussion. He writes everything on the board. Records all his lectures live. Provides practice sheets before exams. I hate chemistry, but this class was somehow bearable with his (somewhat) comedic persona.
Orgo 2 is very difficult no matter who you have but Osner does a great job of explaining the material and tries to makes it easier to understand. His exams are definitely tricky (he drops 1) but does a good job at preparing for the final. Really funny, laid back guy that knows what he's talking about. Highly recommend taking him whenever you can.
He explains things really well and the homework assignments were super helpful for studying. The only problem was that the exams were definitely super tough. Like I'm talking I was tearing up on a short answer question once because it was just so wack. He's cool though.
Orgo is hard, but Dr. Osner makes it less scary. He is an amazing lecturer and does so many practice problems that nothing on the exam should come as a surprise. Of all of the options you have for orgo profs Osner is definitely one of the best you can have. He is also super cool and funny.
Dr. Osner is a great lecturer, and his exams are fair. I felt like this was the one professor who wasn't trying to deceive me and prepared me well for the exam questions. He is very accessible for help during his office hours and prepares you great for the final exam!
I LOVE DR OSNER! He is such a patient professor that understands how hard organic chemistry is. Many professors get annoyed with "dumb" questions because this is their life, but he understands that it takes a long time to learn the material. I would definitely take him again! Super super nice guy.
If you can take Dr Osner do it, he knows what he's doing but definitely is a better orgo teacher than gen chem. He loves when you go to office hours and it WILL help. Practice and pay attention, the book didn't help much.
I love this man. I have never been good at chem and was espically scared going into orgo but Osner is a god send. He never tries to trick you on exams and I never left his class feeling confused after lectures. He also records his lectures which are a huge plus. he is super straightforward on what he expects and will prepare you for the final.
I love Dr. Osner so much- he made orgo so easily digestible and his class is very easy to follow. records all his lectures, very accessible by email/office hours, very fair homework (completion graded), and super fair exams. His discussion questions prepare for every exam and the common final was very straightforward. silly dude- fav prof so far.
Literally the best science professor at this school. Hes so helpful at office hours and is always willing to help you understand questions that you may find stupid. I gasped with joy when I saw he was teaching this bc I had him for 101 too. ORGO is literally a foreign language but he makes it so manageable if you put in the effort to learn it.
Dr. Osner is a great professor who makes difficult material much easier to understand in lecture. Speaking of lecture, GO TO LECTURE. The book is fine but you will struggle with the material without his guidance. Even though Loyola decided to put orgo into freshman chem, Dr. Osner makes it manageable. A little hard to contact out of class.
This class IS HARD and impossible to do well in because of the mastery system. I am an A student and always do well and was aiming to simply pass this class. Dr Osner was unaccessible, barley answered emails, made me feel like garbage when I needed help, taught wrong information, and favored students. This class is hard, take another professor.
Hi friends.
He is not accessible or helpful. I had to get help from my friend in other classes. DONT TAKE HIM!!
This class is so insanely difficult. The new material is nearly impossibly to learn especially from Osner. He only teaches people who go to this office hours the correct stuff, as he is kinda clueless when teaching material in class. I wish I had taken a teacher that taught in the way that is needed to be written out on the exam. Terrible class...
No answer keys for practice problems/review worksheets in class. Occasionally teaches material completely incorrectly or skips entire problems or material sections that end up being on the exam. Must attend office hours to get clarification or know how to do problems 100% correctly on exams. Not accessible thru email, only office hours. STAY AWAY!!
Buckle up because this class is 100 times harder than 160. I thought 160 was a joke class and found it easy, but oh my god I was not prepared. This class is the hardest class I have ever taken and I've taken AP chemistry b4 and done good on the exam. Osner prepares you well for the test but you MUST/HAVE to take advantage of office hours/SI - GL!
I think Osner is a great teacher for an incredibly difficult class, he clearly knows what he is talking about however there was definitely some inconsistencies here and there. I feel like a lot of the problems were less his fault and more the system's, the class is super hard but if you got to OHs and study you should be okay
I loved having Dr. Osner this semester. I took 160 last semester and I received a C+. I barely survived that class, but with my new mindset and having Osner as an amazing professor I was able to get an A in 180. It really is doable to do well with the new chemistry system, but be ready to PUT IN THE WORK. Osner definitely helped make it manageable.
honestly, if you thought 160 is hard or you had to retake 160...you're not making it past this class. If you're pre-med and thought 160 is hard...just save ur trouble now and drop. This class is ridicously hard and if you're not naturally good at chem you're done for. U will struggle a lot and cry...Osner a G tho. praying wont save you nor studying
The level of difficulty compared from 160 is INSANE. Newman projections and those stuff is such a JOKE compared to what you will be doing. If this is ur first time taking 180 especially if you struggled with 160, youll be retaking this class again lol have fun.
for those taking 180 with him over the summer....uh good luck? you'll pass out. And if you do make it thru, you will def not be prepared for chem 240 lol especially if u took 180 over the summer.
GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! This class was a nightmare content wise and a lot harder than 160. That said, Osner is really good at explaining content when you have specific questions (he might stare you down first) but it'll help. If you can take him, take him.
He was alright, not the best.
Avoid
During the summer he is fine, but during the school year he comes off being pretentious. He records stuff and posts lectures but youll find that he makes a decent amount of "innocent" mistakes in his lectures. Def one of the better options but tends to cover a lot of material and a lot of mechanism which can leave you confused. Tests are tricky
Chem180 with Osner is no joke - the content is crazy hard compared to 160. But going to office hours helps a ton, and using resources like unstuck AI for extra practice made all the difference. It's a tough class, but doable if you put in the work.
The chem program at Loyola is already hard enough and stupid. Dr. Osner actually teaches chemistry, is very available outside of class, genuinely enjoys teaching. He is very easy to talk to if you are struggling and need genuine advice or help. He's also funny. Definitely take Osner if you have also never taken chemistry before/hate it/don't get it
Prof.Osner is a great lecturer. My only issue with the course is that it was graded ONLY based on your lowest category in the grade book. In his defense, this is not his policy, nor does the chem department (Devrey) let him calculate or enter grades for his own course, which I find to be a little insane.
Osner is goated. He is so good at explaining things. CHEM160 is hard, but he is accessible outside class, and can be asked questions 24/7 by emails. Go to office hours, he's for sure the best chem professor there is.
Chem 160 is going to be hard no matter who you take. I highly, highly suggest Osner because he genuinely does not want people to fail. He has a ton of office hours and will never be annoyed to work with you one on one. Also, while the class is pretty lecture heavy, he manages to make them pretty interesting. Really cool guy, take him if you can.
Osner is a wonderful professor who got stuck with an awful system. The new grading system is a total joke but he makes the best of it. He has a few OH sessions during the week and is always willing to help. He's also a cool and funny dude.
GOAT OSNER, but the chem department here is trash. If you work hard and actually do homework and practice problems, you can get an A. Don't skip class!!!!!
Chem at Loyola is AWFUL but Osner makes it a little bit better. He truly wants his students to understand the material and makes an effort to get to know you if you ask questions and go to office hours. He's the best chem prof I've heard of and always is there to help you (and is funny). Take him for chem!! And good luck on FOs and COs
Osner can teach fine. However, when we have tests, he doesn't cover all the material needed to succeed. Trick questions. This makes me upset because I've lost mastery for COs by missing one thing because of it. He helps you when you go to him but imo you have to use other material and go to other people to make sure you fully grasp the concept.
Was really helpful and made his lectures interesting. Highly recommend going to office hours since the chem system is very difficult and can easily mess you up.
I took AP Chem, so it was evident to me when some topics were explained in a needlessly confusing way, or were simply taught as how to answer a question rather than explain the deeper reason. I would normally say that's just preference in teaching style, but when certain questions are continuously asked, I feel justified saying he could be clearer.
The chem department is bad, but he does a good job of helping you get the FOs and COs. There were times when he wasn't exactly knowledgeable about the COs/FOs, but that is because he doesn't make them. Overall, I would recommend taking him and definitely going to SI sessions or his office hours. Kind of a strange dude but overall a good professor.
He's a super cool but he sometimes makes thing more confusing than they have to be. I don't think I've ever watched more YouTube videos on how to do my work than in this class
Idk if it's intended, but he can be really patronizing. Otherwise, he's a good teacher, and the grading isn't as bad as people say (not great, but fine). I walked in with literally no chem knowledge and learned a lot and got the A. He doesn't always teach everything on the test before the test, so i recommend group tutoring for those 1st attempts
Osner is the best option for chem at Loyola, but that isn't saying a lot. He is extremely rude and condescending and will put you down for asking questions or participating in class. He is an objectively great lecturer. Just be prepared to deal with his attitude if you want to succeed.
I'm taking chem 180 right now, and I feel like I've learned a lot from Dr. Osner's 160 chem class. I learned from mistakes I've made, and improved. I also really love his lectures! He records them, and you can watch them again. When doing hw, we used ALEKS if you're wondering about that. I enjoyed taking him!
for chem 260 the tests literally do not match the content learned in the class at all. You can get 100 on every homework and quizz and think you get the material and the test is the most unfair thing ever. actually ridiculous. the tests are so long that you cant even finish them and have to come in to retake the test.
One word: Horrible. The most condescending professor I have ever had. He's awful at grading exams and quizzes on time so don't even think about keeping up with your grade. His lectures are all over the place and he often makes errors without correcting himself. Save yourself and your GPA. Save. Yourself.
Osner is the 2nd best chem professor behind billingoat. He is by far the best for 180, and is a pleasure to be around in office hours. The wiley plus is quite annoying, so I often just focus on completing it rather than trying to absorb the material from there. He teaches how to do each FO and CO in class, go to office hours for extra explanations.
You have to go to office hours if you want to survive. Good lecturer and offers good explanations, but can give off a weird attitude at times if you got on his bad side. Practice makes perfect is the way to go when doing this class.
I wasn't disciplined enough to maintain my grades so I wont speak on the material. But if you like to self-study and avoid OHs, good luck. He makes the class feel so dense, quiz retakes are weeks later so you're already too deep in current material to focus on old stuff. Can also vouch that he sometimes makes mistakes he doesn't correct in lecture.
Osner is a good teacher, but he made mistakes in lectures and never fixed them. Those problems often showed up on the exam too. Some of the material on the test was quite harder than what would be covered in class.
not much to say other than him being a solid choice ... organization of class resources was a little annoying though. grades took a while but he was teaching a 180 section as well so it makes sense
I really enjoyed this class and would take him again. I felt prepared and ready for what the COs and FOs were supposed to look like. I would have gotten an A- but I got lazy and did not work as hard for the last exam. That is my fault not his. I really liked how we learned through practice problems and work in class rather than just slideshows.
Osner makes the chem system at Loyola not seem so bad. He clearly goes over the different FO and COs, something that not all professors do. His lectures are great. I would totally recommend him and I think he is one of the best options. He does have a way of making you feel stupid when you ask a question though... he just seems kinda judgmental.
This professor is Ok, I think it's the grading system that makes this class mediocre, I'm convinced there is no real good way to teach with CO And FO grading system. the class lectures are mostly the professor doing example questions of the test, If that's your cup of tea, then you'll rock this class
Osner is my king. The chem system sucks but his lectures were great and made it much easier to pass the tests. He lectures at a great pace and is very clear on the topics and explains them well. He's also super funny and cool. I'd take him again for 180 if he was teaching it next semester.
Dr. Osner is alright. All the lectures are just examples of the FOs and COs, and IMO, he doesn't explain them well enough for me. He writes everything on a chalkboard, no slides, and I feel like he doesn't explain things as clearly. He also doesn't have that approachable vibe. But it's different for everyone Ig 😭 The grading system also SUCKS!!!
Lwk idek anymore. The way he teaches is alright but theres no slides to look back on, only recorded lectures. I personally dont like the chalk board. He goes pretty fast so if u blink, then ur screwed. Theres so much ALEKS that he gives out and no, he does not open them back up if u miss any.
Dr. Osner teaches both types of topics (Both FO/COs) with a lot of clarity and constantly reminds you of upcoming deadlines and exam dates. He does allow his students access to previous lecture recordings, which were helpful for review. The grading system is un poco loco but focus on practicing the topics and you will get used it! Good luck.
the whole chem system is annoying, but bro's a good option to ease u into it. CO/FOs taught really well. Has time for reviews. Some teachers r more willing to give u dat pt and how he grades will ragebait u. But he was great, love him, def take him. Just go to class and don't be a bum
Chem 160 has been frustrating for many students primarily for 1 reason: students not only have to learn chemistry and its complexities, but also the mastery system at LUC. Dr Osner provides great feedback as to why something isn't considered mastered and engaging the students to participate. Very cool professor.
