He is a smart teacher and he knows his math BUT this guy can not teach! I do not recommend him. There is so much to complain about.
Doesn't know how to give clear demonstrations. If u ask for help he would say hold on and end up forgetting. I get correct answers on the test but he mark them wrong because I didn't take the long way to do it. Very Unorganized!
First two weeks says he will not pick up hw in syllabus, 4 days before its due he changes his mind but says he will only count it as a completion. Upon hw turn in if u skipped one problem he didn't give u a completion grade, he gave a 0. So out of 50 questions if u skip one or two he gives u a zero instead of 98 or 96. Avoid this professor!!!
So unorganized! Seems like he did not prepare anything before class. Does not explain the material well. Does not give good notes to refer to. Very messy. Doesn't answer questions in a helpful manner. Doesnt use the book to explain but assigns homework from it. Gives unneeded info and then says there is not time for questions. Very frustrating!
He wasn't good, but I'll give him the benifit of the doubt. He would definitely help students, but he definitely was difficult sometimes to understand, and he did throw alot at us. This was his first ever teaching job as not a grad student, and he was flung into this course the night before it started, so I give him the benefit of the doubt...
My classmate asked EVERY question you could imagine, & we still did not understand it. He seems to try showing off what he knows, despite it NOT being relevant to the class. His test are VERY hard.He doesn't keep you updated about grade progress. He doesNOT permit graphing calculators. Thought I had passed the class until I checked my grade on ASAP
Gives a lot of hw on mymathlab, which was easier to understand than his teaching methods. He can be very sarcastic & rude depending on who ask's him the question. He makes the 3 test (10-20 questions) very hard in order to make the final "easy"! Also has a veryyy confusing grading system! Overall, I wouldn't recommend him, especially for remedial!
STAY FAR AWAY. His quizzes are 2-3 questions & very hard. Test are not multiple choice. Having to retake this class, despite studying hard and having a tutor.
VERY CONFUSING. Stay awaay.. his test were multiple choice & he used mymathlab & those two things saved me but i'm pretty sure i still failed. He's smart, you can tell. But he can NOT teach to save his life:/ He seems like a real nice guy but as a professor, no no.
His class was honestly not as bad as everybody makes it seem. If you have a foundation and basic knowledge of precal you'll be fine. Get good grades on the HW and quizzes because they'll help your grade a lot. Also the test have the exact same question for the review so that should say a lot.
He is literally the worst teacher I have ever had. He does not deserve to be called a Professor of a college level course because he honestly could not teach kindergarten. He is smart, but CANNOT teach. His quizzes are online and are only 4-5 questions, his tests are short as well. STAY AWAY. If you don't know how to do algebra already, dont take.
I am going to make an A or a B in his Business Calc with Algebra course only because I already know how to do most of the stuff. I feel terrible for the people who don't know how to do it, because he can't teach. AT ALL. Don't take this class unless you want to lower your GPA. Everything is on mymathlab, which sucks.
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! He should not be a college professor. He doesn't review before an exam just gives you a review. Doesn't give enough examples of the material so when it's time to do the homework your lost. The homework is online and so are the quizzes, which are only like 4 questions. You have a to get at least a 85 on each hmwk to contin
All I have to say is that he obviously does not read the reviews on this website unfortunately. If he did, maybe he wouldn't be as terrible as he is.
WAY TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. YOU WILL WASTE YOUR LIFE ON HOMEWORK IN THIS CLASS
Easiest class I have taken at UTSA. Tests are very similar to the reviews, I got 100s on both midterms without even going to class. If you do the homework, the reviews, and study you should be fine.
If your already weak in math as it is dont take this professor .. Talks vaguely on the information and just confusing .. Wish he would just get straight to the point .. Make class more interesting and teach what is necessary . I basically Had to teach my own self math.. Does mymathlab. I do not recommend this professor.
HE ASSIGNED SO MUCH HMK! You will spend hrs on mymathlab, where he posts all quizzes and hmwk. He gave you 2 attempts for each quiz (which weren't too bad). His lectures are pretty boring. His reviews are just like the test, but his test range from 13-17 qts and his review has 40 qts.
This professor cannot teach! Knowing math and teaching math go hand-in-hand! I love math and was completely shocked by his teaching methods. He throws out material left & right, and is always behind. You will not get your monies worth. He must have asked us 1000 times if we were taking calculus. When the class said no he threw out another 2 ch.
I gave him benefit of the, i figured he couldnt be that bad... I was wrong. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ANYTHING. He tries to help us, but he makes concepts much more difficult than they should be. He doesnt use reviews for his tests and we have a a quiz every wednsday in the lab. I will probably have to retake the class because of his awful teaching.
Worst math professor ever! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He takes really easy concepts and makes them extremely confusing. He assigns impossible amounts of homework. His tests are next to impossible (on our first test the highest grade in the class of over 100 kids was a 73). The tests don't match the homework and he doesn't give a review. Don't waste your time.
Not as bad as people say he is; offers to help as much as he can but still wants you to understand the material. Curved the first test, offers extra credit/grade replacement, so he's plenty fair in that respect. Read the chapters beforehand and don't skip class and you'll be fine. I've never taken Calculus before, but am doing well in this class.
Read reviews prior to attending the class, but decided to give him a chance. Huge mistake. Moves extremely fast in lecture, so you either write, or listen, you cant do both. Tons of tedious homework. Tests are hard as hell, only curved the first. I've literally talked to my entire class, 2 of those people said they had higher than a C. DONT DO IT!!
His lectures are confusing and he makes way to many mistakes. At first, gave him the benefit of the doubt because he said he just became a teacher, but that was a huge mistake. Here is one example of how big of an asshat he is: He frequently gives examples that are incorrect called "non examples" while barely explaining what the correct way is
I went to every single lecture, did all of the homework and quizzes, and even went to office hours regularly for help, yet I still didn't get the grade I wanted. His lectures are confusing and don't prepare you for anything. I basically taught myself everything on MyMathLab. He tries to help, but don't take him if you can avoid it.
Stay away from him. Please he is the worst math teacher ever. If possible choose someone else, or take math at nvc. He can't teach to save his life. So confusing, always makes mistakes, uses his computer to lecture. Its bad almost everyone dropped his class, I stayed and i regretted that decision.
He makes a lot of mistakes while doing the lecture which makes you more confused. Assigns a LOT of homework A LOT! He doesn't explain well when you have a question, usually making it worse and more complicated. Whenever a class is behind he rushes the notes to get ahead and back on pace and doesn't allow questions. Don't take his class.
His lectures are extremely confusing. He does not follow the textbook layout and when he teaches, he is all over the place! He takes basic algebra and makes it more confusing. He assigns written homework that is VERY difficult and additionally assigns a ton of math lab homework. My advice, drop the class immediately and take a different professor.
Not a good professor at all! He always explained examples incorrectly and then had to be corrected by his students, and this wasn't just once in a while. it was routine. He doesn't explain things with very much clarity. He definitely is NOT a good cal professor.
The only thing I can say is DO NOT TAKE HIM, YOU WILL REGRET
For the love of God don't take him. I dont even know how he got hired. Out of all my years in school he takes the cake for worst teacher.
Worse teacher ever, I have no idea how he got hired. If you want to fail and be stressed out all semester than go ahead and take this guy.
The instructor failed to inform me of the amount of homework we would have and how often we would have it. That made my adjustment period a bit rockier than it should have been. However, he explains the material in a concise and clear way and will stop and answer questions if necessary to make sure everyone is on track. He also consistently insists
Horrible professor. He expects everyone to already know what he knows then skips sections to teach us and puts it in test. He is also not flexible or supportive with students. I would go in for tutoring and he presented the attitude that I was dumb. Also does not take into consideration that students take other classes also. AVOID AT ALL COST!!
Well then, for most of this semester i have been stressing out to the max because of this class. The things i didn't like was that we had few tests but the same amount of material, and the amount of Hw we had. I've never had a problem with math till now and would not recommend him to others. One good thing about him is that he wants to improve.
This is the worst professor ever! Whatever you do, do not take him!!! This class was so stressful!!!!
Beware. Like everyone else is saying, I have no clue how he got hired. He takes simple algebra and turns it into a different language that no one can understand. When you ask questions, he dismisses you as if you're dumb. He is always making mistakes on his lectures, he speaks too quickly and skips steps so you can't even follow along, etc.
Reply confusing professor. He has a lot of "non examples" which doesn't make sense as to why he would show those. He gives so much homework on mymathlab, and his tests are nothing like the reviews he gives out.
I don't know why there are so many negative reviews... Yes, I will admit, his tests are tough, and his non-examples can be confusing (I personally just never paid attention to them), but if he can tell you are trying, and you do most of the homework, you will get a passing grade, even if it doesn't seem like it. Just go to class and do homework.
I absolutely love this professor, he is probably one of my favorites. I understand that math is a hard subject for a lot of people to grasp but if you like math you will like Zach. He is so passionate about the subject and it just makes you want to learn he's always trying to make students understand and if they can't he offers to stay after class.
If you are bad at math, I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND this professor. His lectures are not well organized and his teaching style is very confusing. His grading changes ALL the times. He has many errors on his test as well as the FINAL. If you are excellent at mathematics, go for him if you want to risk your time and money. No idea how he was hired..
I took this professor and his teaching methods are difficult. I would not advise any one to take him unless this is your main focus of a class. LONG homework! He is not lenient what so ever and the tests are half multiple choice half free response, but the free response is hard.
He was really not much of any help, he never explains what he is doing but expects you to understand. One of the most difficult professors ever!!!!
This is probably the hardest Math class I have ever taken. He's an ok guy, but when he asks a questions he expects you to think just like him and know the answer. A LOT of homework! But it's only 10% of your full grade so it's really up to you if you want to do it. His tests are nothing like the homework so don't expect it to be easy. Good luck!
This class over all is not an easy class. I failed it with a different professor and was able to pass with Zachery. There is alot of work but that isnt really his fault. Do the homework, come to class and you will pass. He grades in a way that helps the students because if you make one mistake that changes your answer he will give you credit.
This class is hard, but Zach tries to make it as easy as he can. The homework is long, but he gives SO much partial credit on tests. Show up, ask questions, and study and you'll be just fine.
very nice man, if you dont understand ask questions he wont judge and will try to help as much as possible. if you kept your highschool notes from algebra good on you, youll need them. hes a bit confusing with how he explains things so you might want to look up a few youtube videos he is a little confusing but tries to help as much as possible
His lectures seldom reflect his homeworks, projects, and/or tests. He is seldom helpful. He comes into class complaining of the hours he works and fails to provide you with a good foundation of math. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM AS A PROFESSOR. He should still not even be working here, he makes UTSA look bad.
Honestly I've never been a math fan so Dr. Sharon's class made me work. I think he is as clear as can be when explaining limits and derivatives and is good at explaining algebraic concepts. There are 2 projects assigned throughout the semester which I think are excellent in applying what is learned to real world problems. I recommend his class.
If you have a hard time in math, do not take this professor. His tests are very hard, and he won't give you full credit unless you do the problem exactly how he wants you to. He doesn't give reviews, just long packets over the entire chapter. He also doesn't give extra days for homework assignments.
I took this class thinking that I would switch to becoming a business major and it made me change my mind. There's homework on MyMathLab several times a week and it's very time consuming. He gives no review for the midterm nor the final and doesn't even give you a hint of what will be on it. Definitely do not recommend this class to anyone.
Multiple homework assignments per week. Time consuming. Only two exams (mid-term and final). Class examples nothing like homework. Stay away unless you're gifted with this type of material. I was moved into his class without notice and I paid for it. UTSA makes this class extremely difficult. It's worthless to you.
Really rude professor, if you're stuck or don't understand something don't bother asking because he'll make you look/feel dumb and not even answer you're question. He gets irritated if you don't understand too. Theres alot of hw/quizes on my mathlab. Spoke to others in other classes averages were all 40% and under. DON'T TAKE HIM!!
He is not a good professor at all. He is very rude when you ask questions in class. He does give extra credit when the majority of class doesn't show up, but that doesn't really help much. The exams are extremely hard and are nothing like the examples he teaches. Save yourself and do not take his class!
Always makes sarcastic comments that make no sense. Does not give clear instructions, treats students like five year olds. If you can take a more accesible and easygoing professor, do it.
Professor Sharon is a cool guy. Hey tries to lighten the atmosphere of class and doesn't require attendance. There is a good amount of homework for this class, but he gives you at least a week to complete it and doesn't have more than one section due at a time. The exams, however, are difficult. I am not good at math and did struggle on the exams.
if you have a hard time in math, then DO NOT take his class. The exams are hard and gives to much homework to do in a short time.
Hardest math class I have taken. Calculus is a hard subject to begin with, but he made it impossible. Class attendance is optional, but with someone with perfect attendance like me and still failing the exams even after studying for hours? Lectures have nothing to do with the online homework, or the tests. Refuses to give a final review guide AWFUL
Worst professor I've ever had! I have not come across a person that has made higher than a C in his class. He examples and homework are not helpful at all on the tests. He should have been fired.
Sharon is a peculiar old fellow, who gives tests that will have you wondering when he taught the content. The MML hw has no relevancy half the time to his tests. And will insult you after a question unless you sit in the front two rows. Make sure to read the textbook because his test questions are almost the same thing, and attend his office hours.
I took Prof. Sharon over the summer and it was difficult but not impossible. He's a good teacher who cares about his students and will help you if you ask. If you don't understand something in class he'll go over it and make sure you do. Accessible outside of class and definitely wants you to succeed as long as you put in the work.
Super Rude. Over-sarcastic. Not funny whatsover. Talks a lot. Class makes you fall asleep. I'm a person that loves math and was really looking forward to this class. First day of school.. nearly made me cry. It's not one of those proffesors that you would want them to know you. Best advice: show up, take notes, study on your own, and check MML 24/7
He seems very intimidating, which he is. There are 3 test and the final, which can replace your lowest test grade. The tests are only 10 questions so good luck on that. There is MML hw 2 times a week and an easy quiz before each exam. He became a lot more approachable and friendly by the end of the semester. Also he takes attendance at random.
You have to attend class because that is when he fills out the lecture notes. The lecture notes cover a majority of the homework and test. There will be a question or two on each one that will require thought to answer and can be difficult, but he does give partial credit. He can be sarcastic, but he gives you tools to pass. It is up to you.
Professor Sharon is very witty and may come off as condescending. Just show up to class and you are guaranteed an easy A. Tests are easy if you go over the checkpoints and past homework assignments. His lectures go in depth and some examples take the majority of the class time. If you have any background in calculus then this class is an easy A
Doesnt go over examples well. Simply doesnt know how to teach. When you ask him something he acts like an ass.
Definitely challenging without a doubt. Keep up with all the assignments and honestly, if you show up to class, take good notes, and if you go talk to him... you'll pass for sure!!
I love Papa Zach. He's witty and I like his style of teaching. Goes steadily through material and always asks for questions. He's sarcastic and can be perceived as kind of a jerk. It's awesome. He makes everyone talk correctly when they ask questions and use proper math terminology. Also, his tests can be pretty easy compared to the homework.
Does not teach very well. Gives only examples without teaching actual material. Tests are nothing like the reviews.
I'm tearing up as I write this. This class has been the WORST experience ever. Zachary gives not only impossible assignments, but he also makes snappy comments when you ask about the content. His lessons are lengthy, and he literally makes you cram information to very last minute of class, with zero consideration of whether or not you understood.
You'll walk out with the same confused understanding of the subject. He's sarcastic & rude to the students for asking questions. He compares the class to dogs for being unresponsive when he asks questions directly. HW is noting like the lectures or exams. Continues to lecture if there are 2 sec left of class. Not a math person? Dont take his class!
Professor Sharon has to be the worst math professor that I have ever taken. Zachery has this rude quality whenever he speaks. He answers with "What?, I do not follow" or "Rephrase the question". He wastes time when he could actually be teaching. HW is nothing like the test. Get ready to rely heavily on the Calc lab or study sessions to help you
Tests are worth way too much in the grading average. Does not take time to go over student questions in class. Homework is completely unrelated to in class examples and tests. Makes examples very confusing. Does give extra credit, and dropped a test at least, BUT GIVES FINAL REVIEW 24 HOURS BEFORE FINAL EXAM.
Zachery's normal exams weren't too hard as long as you studied. The homework and quizzes could easily be completed as long as you put in the work to understand the problems or knew how to enter the problems into Mathway. However, his final exam was absolutely brutal. No amount of studying would prepare you for what he had. Completely ridiculous.
ok so, DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is very rude, he doesn't give good examples, he goes off talking about random stuff that has nothing to do with the subject. He has been one of the worst professors i've ever had. Would i recommend him? never. In my opinion, he doesn't know how to teach.
Class confused me more than helped me and when students tried to ask questions he would make them feel stupid. I struggled BIG TIME in this class no matter how hard I studied or even went to tutoring sessions. I would feel like I had mastered the subject and still get 50's on the tests. I don't know why I didn't drop.
If you like teaching yourself, putting in heavy hours after class, and getting tested on some unrelated subjects, take this guy!
Professor Sharon has his own textbook, with only Cal 2 standard questions & definitions. So, if you have taken calculus before I think you can be successful in this class, otherwise this class is extremely difficult. He lacks communication skills and is determined to belittle you when asking a question in class. I have no idea why he is teaching.
Pros: sometimes extends hw deadlines, can give helpful study tips, explains better during office hours, extended time for exam review. Cons: very rude, sarcastic, lies about grades, doesn't curve, belittles you when you ask questions, confusing lectures, final is insanely hard and no studying can help. In conclusion, try to avoid as much as you can
Does not really review what going to be on the test hardest professor I have ever taken
Awful
Professor Sharon has a very deep understanding of calculus and general math and can explain things in multiple perspectives. He gives ample examples for every topic along with what is needed for the test, if you do the HW. He is also EXTREMELY accessible. He can occasionally be condescending, however, he is nowhere near like the other reviews say.
I've taken tough prof before but non like him. He is honestly rude to some students in my class that answered or asked a wrong question. At the time of registration I didn't know about choosing prof, if I did I for sure wouldn't take his class. Literally anyone else but him unless you already have knowledge of cal.
He belittles students who have questions, he's a very tough grader. Not a nice guy. Also if you go to his office hours just know he's very awkward. Take anyone else but this guy.
Think twice before getting this class if you're okay or bad at math. Hwk questions are really different compared to lectures . Reviews are not similar to test, and get ready for a killer final. If you stink at math and hvn't taken a math class recently, rip. Lectures just felt like they dragged and not the best to teach calc to business students.
This man decided to leave in the middle of our semester. He wasnt a very hard grader but get ready to learn on your own. He does really good lecture videos though compared to the other math teachers. Do not recommend if you do not know the slightest on what to do in algebra. Kinda rude when you asked questions.
Prof Sharon never responds to emails and never answers GroupMe. There are A LOT of assignments and he doesn't really tell you when they're due. If you miss an assignment he doesn't let you make it up. The homeworks are long and the tests have very short time limits for the amount of material you need to solve out.
Professor Sharon doesnt always seem to know what he is teaching in his own class. However, the homework is very easy- except linear programming. Tests and quizzes are very similar to the homework. Almost every lecture he answers homework questions that students are confused about. There is a lot of group work done through eportfolio.
Prof. Sharon's course content was not very difficult, but when people asked questions he often came off as rude & condescending. This made many classmates uncomfortable with approaching him for help & decreased class participation. The weekly structure was easy to follow with pre-class work, class meeting examples, and webwork weekly.
Pretty rude. The class is taught off youtube videos by a different professor. Rarely went to class and used youtube to get me through the semester.
Great professor dont listen to the other reviews they are just butt hurt that they asked stupid questions and he answered as such, knows lots of math and teaches very clear and well, will be taking him again.
Prof. Sharon is the rudest professor i have had. he belittles anyone who ask him questions, and does not care if you are confused. he is a hard grader and does not give good feedback. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I think he was helpful and understanding when we had a problem with our group project. As long as you keep up with the weekly modules you'll do good.
This was a very average class. He can be rude sometimes to the class, but if you ask for help 1 on 1 he's actually very helpful. I missed a quiz once and he re-opened it for me. I don't know why his rating is this low. If you could take a better professor you should, but he's not bad.
I basically taught myself everything this semester because he expects you to come to class knowing every single thing. Assignments are weekly and 3 Benchmarks are given. No final. It still is a pretty difficult class.
What he teaches is thorough but is not really related to the hw and quizzes and tests. If there was no examples to follow while doing hw I would have failed. 3 tires on all questions and 2 tries on quizzes. each hw takes about 2 hrs to finish if u are figurig it out. The class was on zoom, in person, or u can watch yt videos that he uploads.
Professor is nice and answers most questions in class--others he'll say to ask him during office hours. If you're struggling with a concept you can watch a video from his youtube playlist to help. Quizzes and tests are very difficult. Homework questions can be reattempted infinite times for full credit. It's calculus, don't expect it to be easy.
SO. MUCH. HOMEWORK. YET SO LITTLE ACTUAL TEACHING. He gives retries on tests but that doesn't really matter when he gives an insane amount of homework. He gives more homework in 1 week than my other 4 classes combined.
class literally just started and he gave us homework without explaining anything basically "you should know that " gtfo
Wasn't a fan of this class. Notes were okay but notes barely helped on the homework. He could of provided more resources.
This class was difficult and takes up time, 1 hw per week,1 quiz on it on the next. Hw questions can be answered from the class lectures, attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss you will be lost. Tries his best to help out the class, tries to be accommodating. Taking notes and asking questions is a must. But calc is hard so the class is hard.
This professor shares lectures on what he thinks will help his students. I'm retaking his course after properly finishing precalculus first. He also actually provides every resource needed for his students and gives advice and locations of tutoring.
If there is another option, take it. I hardly ever leave reviews, but this warrants one Tests are 55% of your grade, if you don't pass them you cannot pass the class. He gives zero partial credit on tests. Only about 20% of the homework was covered in class. It was a 80% self taught class pretty much He is a very smart man, but not a good teacher
He is very caring and will truly work with you to watch you succeed! Very understanding. His classes are very slow paced and hard to get lost in them. Very good professor!
I wouldn't recommend this professor. His class alone made me re-consider my choice of going to UTSA.
This professor is by far the worst professor they have at UTSA! He takes months to grade exams and lies about them. I even reported him to the department chair and they just took his side. Do not take him ever find anyone else to take him don't make the same mistake I did.
