He is good. He knows the subject matter very well.
Very good teacher. Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. You really need to follow the lecture notes that he requires you to get and you will use your book. As long as you have a good study ethic anyone can get an A. I highly recommend him to anyone.
Don't be fooled. This man is a lousy teacher. He is nearly incomprehensible (English is not his first language). He expects everyone to know the material before hand. Hos lectures are boring. Not to mention that He doesn't explain the concepts well. He blames the students even when they are trying their best. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Biology in general is NOT my thing, however Dr. Z made this class insightful, interesting and fun. Only ones that won't get through this class, are the ones that have no desire to do well and are lazy. Yes he is demanding, but extremely fair. He makes learning Biology interesting. You just know he cares about each and every one of his students.
Biology is a complex subject that requires attendance, attention, and studying. But Dr. Z makes it fun and is an outstanding professor who cares about his students. All you have to do is show up, pay attention, and study. I highly recommend him, even though I am not a science major. He's a great guy!
Wonderful teacher! He makes the subject fun and even more interesting. At first, his accent is a little bit hard to understand but it's definitely not that big of a language barrier. He makes sure that you understand the topic and goes out of his way to help. Highly recommended.
I went into this class so excited and left hating everything about this class. I found Dr. Z to be very rude and not the slightest bit helpful. He also is not a clear teacher at all and very hard to understand I think I knew more before the class than after. I would say stay as far away from this class as possible!!! Run don't walk!!
I was in Dr. Z's A&P I and II classes. I like his style of teaching and he knows the materials he is teaching. He makes hard concepts easy to grasp by citing practical examples. For slacker students who want high grades without working hard, my advice is run dont walk away from his class.
If you take this class you are wasting your money. The teacher doesn't even teach. I read the book and had a good understanding of anatomy, but this guy tries to trick you. On the final he gave us test to study and used different questions to see what we learned,he said. Dont take this class. he is not helpful and doesn't care about his students.
A&P 1 is hard...especially in the summer. Dr.Z does have an accent but not like you can't understand him. He does speed through lectures but I heard his exams are easier than other instructors. He does at times tend to make the questions tricky. You have to earn an A, def taking him for A&P 2
I say Mr. Long who? Dr. D is the way to go. His accent isnt as bad as people make it seem. His exams are very straight forward, no traps. He is very helpful and and caring. I could see that he wanted everyone to pass. Take him!
Dr. Z made the lecture entertaining with his cheesy jokes. I had fun and learned a lot of things and his accent isn't all that bad. It wasn't easy but his SI guy knows his stuff and was always eager to help. It was my first time back in a class setting and I had a great time. Dr Z was genuine and helped anyone who asked for the help.
I went into A&P not knowing any teachers and ended up with Zaldy. I'm VERY glad that I did, he is so much fun and if you actually pay attention and study fairly easy. I loved Doctor Z's class and just registered for A&P2 with him :)
Dr. Z is awesome! His accent is fine! (and anyone that complains about it just might have a tolerance problem.) He is straight-forward and provides a study guide for lecture tests to outline what questions cover. During lecture, he tells you what some of the questions will be! Gives extra credit and grades fairly...and he's funny!
I took AP I (summer II) & II (Fall) and passed both. He is a great professor and funny. Always making things interesting.
i actually took his tests they were actually very difficult. instead of straight fwd questions with 1 answer there were questions with partial answers and then another answer that could also be correct but with 1 thing off. i found his tests to be a little confusing.notes werent clear. id advise taking chapa.
Dr Z was a great professor, and always had funny jokes. He taught the class well, although his speech isn't to clear, because of Filipino accent. But he was Awesome! I recommend Sit in the front of class and never miss a day, and if SI leaders are available take FULL ADVANTAGE.and any time he repeats him self twice, WRITE IT DOWN
Good teacher, who's funny and certainly knows his material. Unfortunately, he has a very thick accent and people with hearing problems (like me) may have problems understanding what he says some of the time. His lecture exams are tougher than his lab exams, but if you're comfortable with biology and have good study skills, I strongly suggest him.
Mr. Doyungan is a great professor. He makes the class fun and interesting and makes you feel at home. Labs are super easy if you have good memorization and lecture tests can be tricky but lots of studying can help. He also gives you extra credit that helps you abundantly. I suggest taking him!

Dr. Z is a wonderful teacher. Yes his tests are difficult, but he expects you to know the material. iClicker points are a huge bonus! He's very helpful, funny and makes learning enjoyable.
Zaldy can be pretty rude at times. His accent is confusing. I don't blame him for the suffering of myself and other students in his class; a&p is always a full-time job and when you're in 3 other classes it's borderline impossible to put in the amount of effort necessary to get by with a grade higher than just passing. He's too busy to meet with.
The class itself is hard, but Dr.Z did a good job helping to get by. He gives extra credit and his lectures are never boring. He always comes in with a great attitude.I would recommend him for sure.
This class was not easy, but if you make the effort then the professor rewards you with extra points. Yu get extra points for perfect attendance, extra points on exams, if you attend the class. There is no reason to fail in this class. He gives study guides for lecture exams and tells you exactly what to expect on the labs. Easy to understand!
Dr. Z's style of "teaching" is not a learning style. He reads straight off of Power points at a very fast pace and doesn't explain anything! He can be very rude also! I do not recommend him!
Dr. Z was a great professor who strives to help his students. The tests are breeze when supplemented with the lecture and online content he posts. It's near impossible to fail this course, he literally gives you points just for showing up. This professor is fair and will work with you to help you understand; I strongly advise taking this class.
Dr. Z is an awesome teacher! Show up to class, take notes and pay attention! His lecture tests are a little difficult but he offers extra credit, which helped out a lot. You shouldn't have a problem with the lab test if you study the lab slides he posts in canvas. Overall I enjoyed his class. He's funny and keeps you interested in the material.
Dr. Z is a very nice guy and funny. His tests are brutal! Often questions come up on his tests that you don't know where they came from? He doesn't listen when you voice complaints on questions majority of class got wrong on tests. He loves to give confusingtrick questions. You earn every point. Most of class got C or lower. I fought 4 B
DONT DO IT. Seriously though, he was not helpful at all and I felt like he wanted to trick students rather than teach them properly. Do not recommend at all
Dr. Doyungan is an awesome professor. He gives extra credit for perfect attendance, extra credit on quizzes during lectures, and gives you study guides for exams. He does make you work for the grade but this is college not high school, you gotta earn it. I took him twice and would take him again if I had the chance. Both times I got a B!
Dr Z will discuss about 95% of what he will test you on (listen attentively) The other 5% comes from your textbook. If you have a question ask, he will answer, still don't understand ASK AGAIN he will explain!!! He does not sway on grading or iclicker points, I know from experience. He is also humorous. Overall all I enjoyed his class both years.
dr. z is a great professor!!! he is down to earth and is there to help you out! he is very personable and explains things very well. if you dont understand something just ask and he will help you.
Dr. Z is an awesome professor. I just took his class and found it to be ez to pass. His tests are straight out of his lectures and study guides. You can't fail his tests. Plus you can earn bonus points too. He makes this difficult class more enjoyable with his funy sense of humor. He provides the learning and if you fail, you didn't study.
Dr. Z took FOREVER to grade lab reports, and exams. The reviews are really long, and they won't be word for word on the test. Learn anything and everything about each topic on the review because it's going to be on the exam, just not how you expect it to be. He's nice, and helpful if you ask. But mostly, you will need to teach yourself.
I don't recommend his class. His note sets are so confusing (very little information), his lectures are confusing, and he's hard to understand. To me, he seemed very unapproachable. The only thing good about his class are the labs.
Dr. Z is a great instructor! There is plenty of extra credit to get you through those tough tests. I didn't open the textbook once in the class, all you really need is the class notes. Textbook: 300$ Lecture notes: 5$ Overall great professor, just make sure not to overload on courses and you should be fine!
Dr. Z is such a great professor! His class is very challenging at times and he really makes you work for your grade. He gives extra credit for each test and it really helps. He is pretty funny and a super nice guy.
I loved taking Dr. Z's class! But beware if you are a lazy student and think you can breeze through. This class is passed if you study and pay attention in class, he wants you to learn. He tells funny jokes as well.
He teaches anatomy. He might be a good anatomy teacher, however not with genetics. He doesn't seem to know what he is talking about at times, gets confused with his math and can't speak very good english. His chemistry skills are lacking and if your answers on tests are not exactly how they are defined in the text then expect points off.
I had a difficult time deciding which was worse... His ability to speak English, his Math skills, or his ability to comprehend Genetics. He seems more like a federal government teacher.
It's genetics. It's an obscure subject, and it's supposed to be hard. I'd cry because it's hard, but I won't because it'll ultimately prepare me for the future (med or grad school). We are called to work for our grades, not to be spoonfed. He can be hard to understand at times, but he knows his stuff.
Dr. Z is the teacher who makes the students study. I succeeded and did well in his class because I worked hard for it. He is generous in giving extra credit points. But students have to work to get the other points to make good grades. He injects humor into his lectures to break the monotony of the course.

Dr. Z is a good teacher but does not really use the text book much. He has his own notes sets, USE and FOLLOW THEM. Tests are hard if you do not study, but he gives extra credit. Lab is the easier portion of this class since it is hands on. He can be very funny, but is usually pretty serious. He's very helpful and likes to make sure you get it
Dr.Z is a good teacher, however his exams were very confusing. I went to SI, read the book, had perfect attendance yet my grades didn't reflect that. Lab is definitely the easier part of the class. He usually says "did everyone get that" and within five seconds says, "okay moving on." So he really doesn't give you time to ask questions.
Dr. Z is awesome! His lectures are easy to follow for the most part. And everything that is discussed in lecture will show up on lecture exams. He is also easy to approach so no question ever feels like a dumb question! You do have to put in the effort for an A. It is just like anything else if you study then you will get the grade you deserve.
Reviews werent much helpful & I personally felt they did little for me on exams. Definitely makes you work for your grade. Lectures were confusing so I studied out of the book. wont use your book in class but its great to have Incase your like me and was lost in lecture. Labs were great he was really thorough and makes sure you understand

This review is coming from someone who had to take A&P 3 times before having this professor. Dr.Z breaks things down for you and actually uses the books you spent so much on so its worth buying them. He gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Hes an easy professor. Just make sure you study the material.
Dr. Z is an easy going professor who cares about all students and is available outside of class hours to answer any questions. His exams are fair. Make sure to read and study and understand concepts. Offers a lot of extra credit so take advantage of it. Overall, great professor and great guy!
Could not understand the lecture. When asking questions is not clear with answers. Your grade depends on the test. Tedious quizzes on an online website did not let students know when to complete them I skipped some due to not knowing about them. Test & quizzes were confusing. Notes are not so clear to understand. Book should be required.
Have taken Dr. Z for A&PII and this is the hardest class I had ever taken. His study guides arent relevant to the test. So much info on reviews but only 40 questions on test. And a decent amount of fill in the blanks on test.
Your grade is dependent solely on your test grades and your lab grades. There is no homework, HOWEVER, your homework should be reading! Read your textbook, read your notes, PAY ATTENTION in class and you will do just fine! Show up to class! He gives bonus points for perfect attendance and gives quizzes during lecture for bonus points towards exams
If you are thinking about taking this professor I would think twice. First of all he is very difficult to understand because of his accent and also speaks very fast. Second, he gives you a note set to go off of but is still very confusing. He jumps around a lot instead of going over the material in order. Be ready to read a lot at home.
The teacher is difficult to understand both by his accent and his knowledge to the information. Prepare to spend your free time reading the chapters. Yes there is bonus credit before the test but they make a bit of impact to your actual test grade. And beware of his messy hand writing and also jumping around the board making everything confusing
He is the ONLY microbiology professor so if you must take this class be ready to teach yourself. He is a very tough grader on his lab assignments. No extra credit and no drop grades so be prepared. He is new to Micro so not very organized. There is also a language barrier so listen good and read the book.
There are a lot of bad reviews on here Dr. Z really wasnt a bad professor. Passing his class is all about learning to play his game Get thru the first test. After youve seen the format of questions though, you should be able to pick up the pattern. Then write a quizlet with questions phrased like he would, using his ppts Micro is hard, he's not!
The people that posted bad reviews are just salty that they didn't give it their all. That is not Dr. Z's fault. He tests over what he teaches. Easy as that. His accent also isn't really that bad, in fact sometimes it is endearing. Not a mean guy, approacable, and most of all, passable with the right effort put in.
I personally liked Dr. Z, and enjoyed his class. He was very knowledgeable when it came to Microbiology. If you read the chapters before hand and follow along during lecture and take good notes you should pass. I also filled out the study guides and studied those along with the notes. Pay attention and study. There is no reason anyone should fail.
Took micro with him in the summer and to sum it up- Pro's: Provides a study set that makes it easy to follow along, is passable if you work hard Cons: Doesn't teach the material in a very clear/easy way, so you should read before class and already have a solid foundation of anatomy. Also a picky grader on lab exams and only a few people manage an A
I wouldn't recommend this professor for BIOL2402. He has a heavy accent, so I couldn't understand him half the time, the extra credit is with the iclicker in class, so you had to know the answer within one minute or you don't get the point, and he goes extremely fast explaining important details. (I would recommend taking Mr. Wood, he was amazing)
Dr. Z, is actually very knowledgeable about Micro. He has 4 exams and a final. His iclickers, and pre-lab quiz help tremendously. The class is an overall difficult class, not his fault. His questions aren't sometimes easy. Read before lecture; study what you learned after, and you should be fine. Attendance matters to get extra credit. STUDY!!!
He is by far the WORST professor I have had. The majority of the class are health science students like nursing or dental hygiene. In the end, only a few As & Bs , with many Cs,Ds, and below. His answer to student questions were vague in lecture and lab. Unfortunately, he is the only one teaching microbiology.
He is a horrible professor. 95% of my section had a D or less. The other section as was at about 90 % of D or less. He doesn't care if anyone passes his class because he knows he is the only one teaching it. It was brought to his attention that everyone was failing his class, he said no they aren't a D is passing. D is not passing for any progam.
PAY ATTENTION in class and youll be fine. Stay involved and ask questions. Everything you need to know is on the slides but he doesnt provide them so take pictures and I would suggest printing them out and taking notes on them. Thats what got me thru this class. I clicker answers are all in the slides word for word. I didnt really use mynoteset
Great professor take notes and study, read ahead. The people who complain are the ones who dont try in this class, everything on the test is from the lecture and your notebook.
He isn't as bad as people make him seem. He does care if his students are learning but be prepared because he wont be easy on you. You have to really engage in his class and do your own outside studying (frequently) to do well. I recommend reading the book before lecture and studying off your lecture notes for exams NOT the study guides.
I took him for spring 2020 and he is by far the hardest professor I've took in my whole college experience. I have never hand anything handed to me, and I don't expect to. This man makes it so hard for you to pass the class, he does the impossible. Because of people like him many stop pursuing their careers and reaching their dreams!sad reality!

This was by far the WORST professor I have ever taken, highly recommend not taking him. I was forced to take him because he is the only microbio prof at del mar, but I am transferring in order to take the class elsewhere because he is that awful. His note sets don't help at all and you basically teach yourself. He should not be a professor.
So I heard a lot of bad stuff before I took Micro and thought, "how hard could it be?", well let me tell you this course is DIFFICULT! Especially if you take it online and in summer like i did. This has been the hardest class I've ever taken in my life. I recommend taking it on it's own or if you can take it somewhere else, TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Took for S2. Yes, it was hard! But what do you expect when its a difficult class like Micro & only 5.5weeks long. Hes very knowledgeable, I just think the class itself is difficult. Its a lot at once so if you really dont have time dont do it during the summer. He loves what he does. Ask questions, hell answer them. Dont be lazy, just do it.
very rude, doesnt answer questions for clarity, note set & power point dont match testing material, he confused most of the class when explaining materials, majority of the class failed, he isnt knowledgeable about online teaching so Zoom meetings & discussion boards were not a help, this was the worst professor that I have taken Do Not Take Him
Questions on quizzes are not covered in note set or lecture exam study guide. Prof does not go over material, just how to conduct the lab. Does not address questions, just states it is in the book. The majority of your grade is from the lecture exams. Prof does not seem to have a genuine concern for student performance.
Won't do the bare minimum for an online class during Rona, which is just recording his lectures. Every other Bio professor doesn't seem to have a problem doing this. Also makes you feel stupid when you ask for help. It's dumb that I'm paying full price just to fail bc I'm not learning.
Lecture notes and test aren't congruent. Like others have said professor will make you feel like a total idiot for asking a question or will answer a question with a question and never answer your question. His lectures do not engage the student and he is difficult to understand.
Awful teacher. Doesnt care about lecture, he wont give you recorded lectures. Hell post some he finds from other teachers on YouTube. Most of his exams and quizzes dont match with note sets. Dont recommend. Take this class at a different school
Worst online professor I have ever had. I have never taken an online class where the professor did not post any lecture videos whatso ever. Does have Q&A zoom meetings but if you are unable to attend a 7 pm meeting tough luck, he will not record the meeting and post for later review. Get ready to teach yourself with vague PowerPoints and YouTube!
Professor didn't teach anything, I learned nothing this semester. No lecture videos, tests can't be reviewed to see mistakes made, some test questions didn't even make sense in how they are worded. The textbook is the only way you will learn anything, that is if you have time. Don't recommend taking this professor, take the class somewhere else.
Due to COVID the course was moved online. NO LECTURES were provided, its self taught. Post questions at your own risk. lectures on YOUTUBE were a lifesaver. Beware that much of what he asks on quizzes and exams are not found in the note set or the his PP. Since he doesn't teach you, extra effort will be needed as you will have to learn on your own
Hardest class I've ever taken. Would of been much better had we had actual lectures. Everything is self taught. He had the chance to teach in lab, but still would not explain to help us understand the material. Most questions asked were not answered in a helpful way, just a short response. I would HIGHLY recommend taking this class elsewhere!
This class is the hardest class I have ever taken and this professor doesnt make it any easier, its almost as if he wants his students to fail. The tests have completely different questions from the what the study guide tells you to study. If you can take this class somewhere else, please do. Im transferring just to take this class again.
I knew taking Microbiology was going to be difficult, but this professor makes it so difficult as if he wants you to fail. DO NOT GO OFF OF STUDY GUIDES for exam! Those are useless! Go off of power points! Why he makes study guides are beyond me, not even a handful of questions are on those things! Im transferring to take this course elsewhere!
Challenging course. What helped me prepare for the exams was studying a lot & actually trying to understand the material. This class is not easy. Probably one of the hardest, but if you actually take the time to study and take lots of notes you'll be okay. You definitely need the book and lab manual. Dr. Doyungan was not a bad professor.
This class by no means is a walk in the park, you have to work for it and YOU have to want it. For the people complaining about him, YOU didn't apply yourself and expected to pass. Read your text, read the modules and the power points(x3), do your noteset and make study guide exams and you will be fine. Apply yourself like never before!
@DelMarCollegeEastStudents �� This is my second time taking this class and the professor �� �� because he is only one that teaches this course. He wants students to fail. Since its online he does not help. Spent 4 hours in lab and he didn't teach or talk much. The study notes are useless and there is no lectures. We deserve a better professor! ��
I dont know how he is still a professor at Del Mar. There are some amazing professors there and he is absolutely not one of them.
Dr.Z is a really great professor, I really enjoy the labs, they are fun. To all of the people that do not like his class are the people who do not put enough effort into it. I love this class. I would take it again.
He is an inconsistent grader and wants all the problems solved his way, if you find an easier way/shortcut it's wrong. His lectures jump around from topic to topic and there is no set schedule on the syllabus for tests and homework, he just tells you a week before "We are having a test" and doesn't finish teaching the topics till 2 days before.
I honestly had a hard time because of the prefilled notes. The study guides weren't helpful since only a few questions actually ended up on the exams. You definitely have to read ahead to understand what's going on and watch the videos he linked on modules. Also he's not harsh on grading lab exercises, but he doesn't give helpful feedback.
Mans gave me a 50 on something I got a 100 on. 0/10 do not recommend
I think he happens to be on of the greatest professors I've ever had. His study notes are the best. I think its important to understand concepts from the study guide to understand qs on exams. I absolutely recommend him if you're someone who intends to be a medical professional such as MD, DMD, DDS, DO, PA! :)
8week course. Super nice & very passionate. Makes tons of jokes. Definitely was burnt out from last class and didn't put in effort for lecture exams. Lab exams are easy study the PowerPoint. Lecture is tricky don't know what to expect from each chap. If he REPEATS something write it down bc it'll be on the exam. Points for attendance and iclicker
I genuinely did not find this professor good. He was not a good professor and did not teach much at all. You will have so much work to do. He assigned 200 concepts. He was actually the worst professor that I have taken at Del Mar. Do not take this class it will stress you out so much, and he is not helpful at all with anything. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I could not understand him at all. He is by far the worst professor i have ever had. His lecture exams are nothing like the study guides he gives out. I tried so hard to pass his class, You have to pay for iclicker. Everything i studied for on the study guides were not on the test. He does not have videos that you can look over for lab or lecture.
He instructs to ask questions, yet he prefers them after everything is done. I once missed an online exam because my computer failed, and when I needed a new charger, all he advised was to get a new computer, nothing more. His grading is unsatisfactory; regardless of completion, the grades suffer.
I took professor Doyungan for Summer Anatomy 2 and yes it was challenging considering it was in summer but it's so doable! Studying is crucial for this class because it goes by so fast but don't worry because the lowest test grade gets dropped and you'll receive lots of opportunities for extra credit.
There are nicer professors on campus. Hard to understand, but will repeat what is on test. Very smart, but has been not nice to others in community. Witness first hand. Doesn't represent Del Mar in community in the best light. Has a short temper, so don't miss class and don't be late. High intelligence

I am currently taking this professor and I 100% regret it. it's not only a waste of time, but a waste of money as well. I understand it's an 8 week course and it's fast paced, but he doesn't even try to make sure we comprehend the material. He teaches as if we already know the material. His exam reviews don't match with the actual exam. STAY AWAY!!
Yall hating on this legend too much. Took 8 week a&p1 and a&p2; didnt study for either and passed. Takes less than a full lecture to get used to his accent. All you need to do is pay attention in class and have it reflect on your tests.

Isn't something you can breeze through like a walk in the park, if that's something you're hoping for...you won't get that in this class. So get out the kitchen. Despite the harsh material he teaches, it's a breeze and he makes it easy and fun to learn
I took this course online, so the experience was fairly average. I had no problems with this professor. Simply do the work, turn it in on time, and you'll succeed Avoid procrastination at all costs; you will not easily recover from falling behind. His grading criteria are clear, so just follow the rules and that's it Lots of reading and note taking
Definitely a challenging class, but studying hard, avoiding distractions, and utilizing resources like Unstuckstudy can really help. The professor has a specific teaching style, so it's key to engage with it. Overall, it's a tough but manageable course if you put in the work.

Taking Dr. Z's class might've been the worst mistake I've made. The course was online, but it seemed like he didn't care about his students. He posted NO lectures online, our only resource available was the McGraw Hill book. He was an extremely rude professor, and was of no help at all. If you have the choice, please take biology with anyone else.
