Great teacher! Im terrible at math and he really goes through the material and makes sure you understand. He's extremely helpful just make sure you go to class and pay attention. I highly recommend him.
Although I had to drop his class because my MAT1033 class didn't start till later in the semester( didn't make sense to take the lab if I didn't take the class yet), he was SOOOO helpful, giving me advice on what to do and how he can help! I would take any of his classes that he offered simply because he was just so helpful and so nice!
He is awesome!!!! All the homework is done online. He explains math very clear in a way that you can actually understand it. I took him over the summer as well. He is the best!
I despise math, tried 2x with a different professor to pass and no go. Came to PBSC and signed up for this professor's class and I passed (while actually understanding what I was doing!!). I took 2 more of his classes and I passed (and understood) both! He breaks everything down so you can understand. Not too many assignments or tests, either.
If you're looking to really learn math then this is the teacher to choose.
Homework takes a couple of hours, but once you do it, that's exactly what will be on the tests. No midterm and his final consists of all the questions from previous exams, just different numbers. He is understanding and a super dorky guy, but good at heart. Easy class!
I got a D which was my own fault, since I'm not good at doing math work online. If you are, this is a great class! he's very helpful and has lessons with each lesson. The assignments were pretty standard.
This is thee most amazing Professor I have ever taken! He truly cares about his students and understand math anxiety. If you want to understand math and have an incredible experience, take him.
I took him for Honors Statistics and he was a godsend. I got an A, but I worked hard for it... it's a tough subject. He's willing to spend whatever extra time you need to break down the tough concepts, cares genuinely for his students, and he's got a great sense of humor. The fact that he's easy to look at is just a bonus.
He is the best math teacher I've ever had, he is very understanding and will work with you individually to help with any questions. He assigns homework on the computer but its not all that difficult if you attend class regularly. I signed up for another class with him for next semester. PS. textbook is available on my mymathlab
Professor Z. Abbondanza is super nice and helpful. He does tend to talk fast but will answer any questions you have. Homework is done online on MyMathLab, fairly easy but there is a good amount of questions. I highly recommend not waiting until the last minute to start it! I would take another class with Professor Z. Abbondanza. No textbook.
Seems as if he was always in a hurry. If you're good with numbers and all that you'll be alright, if you struggle you're gonna struggle even more in his class. Nice professor though, just not an easy one and not very helpful.
Homework is on MyMathLab, usually do by the time the next class starts. Gives out random quizzes, and YES! He actually grades them. You can usually sense when a quiz is coming. You have to actually study to pass his test, you have to know the material. Overall, he is a decent guy. & You can always stop by his office he will help.
he is a great guy he will be there to help you out but the way he explains oh god!!! he knows what he is talking about but to be able to give a class , he is really confusing jump steps and then he comes back make a joke and says yeah i forgot great guy bad professor
Professor is very knowledgeable in math but cant explain in even close to simple terms. Cant read his handwriting very easily. Made everyone use a different calculator for the final exam with no warning. Nice guy, but super confusing and wont take again
Don't take him he doesn't help at all. His tests are classic it makes it way harder. If you know different formula for the question he takes huge points off and he says the question is correct but that's not the way that I tought you. I took him and that class was the hardest thing I've ever done.
Prof. Abbondanza is very passionate about math and science. He is not an easy professor because he truly makes you work for your grade, but he is always available to help and is very patient with students. Make sure you do your homework and read the chapter before his lecture, you will understand a lot more.
Will try his best to answer any questions you have, however the tests can be difficult at times, and he is a tough grader when it comes to the long answers. No study guides and his reviews are based off your questions.
Save your math grade! take someone else!
Professor Abbondanza embodies all the characteristics and qualities of a great professor. He could be a little snarky at times and his humor is quite interesting, but he is always there for you. He encourages you to work hard and if you get and A in his class, you have mastered it and deserve. Totally awesome professor.
I could've have gotten a better grade if I have studied more, but trust me, Zalmond is a great professor, just be sure to study from his homework because the tests are questions from the homework. Study them and you will pass
A caring professor that will answer questions and always help. I took Calc1 with him and would take Calc2 too if he taught it next semester.
I took this online & got an A, after failing on my 1st attempt. This course alone is a lot of work, & you have to work for your grade. Prof A was very quick to answer questions same day & he graded Hw, quizzes & tests. HW & quizzes you had multiple attempts on and he always took the highest grade. The structure helped me be successful.
Great professor.
Homework and quizzes are easy. Tests are mediocre and study guides usually help.
Great teacher, always responds right away to emails and sends you reminders about assignments. I never had a teacher that sent me an email after the exams to talk about how I did. Definitely would take him again.
Tough teacher but very fair and cares about students. He gives you points on tests for problems that you missed if you show him that you understand how to do it. Doesn't give away grades, but if you do what he tells to you study you will do great.
Not bad but I had to do the learning on my own which is expected when taking an online class. But passed the final by a miracle because I studied the study guide and when it was time to take the final it was totally different. Could have happened just to me and no one else but not a bad professor
Professor A is one of the most caring professor I have had. He wants his students to pass and truly understand the material. Always available for extra help and even works around his schedule to accommodate the times you are able to come in. 10/10 recommend.
Talks way too fast, seems as if he was always in a hurry and his test are VERY hard. I do not recommend him. He doesnt let you use your calculator on any test. I have never failed a class before.
The comment that says that he doesn't let you use calculators is not true at all. He brings calculators to the class and hands them out on test days.
Professor Abbondanza is the single reason I fell in love with calculus. After leaving high school with little to no knowledge of trig and advanced algebra, Calculus seemed impossible for me. With enough work and office hours I ended up with an A. He is amazing and will make you love math!
Just a great class. Easy A
Professor Abbondabza is the absolute worst math teacher i've ever had in my life. He goes through a lesson every class, but instead of notes he just does examples. He expects us to put the lesson together through the examples he shows and if you don't understand then you fail. If you miss one class you go down a letter grade, worst professor ever.
Professor Abbondanza teaches and explains math very well. If you ever feel confused, don't hesitate to ask him to explain a little more until you understand it. The tests are fairly easy if you prepare for them well but get ready for a decent amount of homework from My Math Lab.
Best professor ever! he helps you when you need it and there is 2 lessons every week overall he is one of the best professor i have ever taken and i regret not taking him sooner in other math subjects!
He actually cares about how the students are doing in the class and will tell you to drop if you are doing bad. Most of the questions he puts on the test are 10x harder than the ones you practice in class
Easy class if you show up and do the work
Although the work was pretty tough and the lectures were long, this professor really does care to see his students pass. Everytime I needed help or advice he would get right back to me in timely fashion.
This is the only teacher that actually sent me an email after every test to give me feedback. He answers emails right away too. Tests are easy if you do the homework, same questions. I'm definitely going to take him again!
Professor puts the work out there and ahead of time. You can work ahead, but make sure you get the work done by the due dates. Do all the work online and take the test in the testing center with passing grades. No brainer!!! Have any questions, he is there to help and give feedback right away. Very helpful!!
I took his class online; you really do teach yourself. His class is very straightforward, its all homework quizzes & tests & its very organized, however, the lectures do not really help with my math lab, i rarely ever used the lectures, everything is my math lab. If you have questions hes willing to help through video chat, tests are not hard!
He is the best Math Professor I ever had. He really cares about students, he tries all the way to help them to succeed.
Great professor. Took him for Int Alg and was very satisfied so took him again for College Alg. Took both classes online. Loved how the classes were set up. The videos broke everything down. Homework and quizzes with multiple attempts and a few Exams with Exam reviews before hand. I also like that the professor emails you after completion of Exams.
Great Professor! Was very quick to answer questions and offers a lot of help. He even emails you after exam results come in and gives encouragement. If you dont take this professor, youre making a mistake.
HE REALLY CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. HE MAKES SURE EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES HE HAS TO EXPLAIN THE SAME THING. HIS CLASS IS NOT EASY TO BE HONES BUT IF YOU STUDY YOU WILL GET AN A+. HE GIVES A STUDY GUIDE BEFORE EVERY TEST, MAKE SURE YOU DO THE STUDY GUIDE AND UNDERSTAND IT.
I took the online class. My recommendation? Don't. In other comments, his on-campus class seems great. I didn't interact with him much online but be prepared for a bucketload of work. As long as you stay on track, it's fine, but if you slack off... oh yeah, don't expect to rebound.
Awesome teacher. Answers emails right away and gives feedback on all of your exams. Tough but fair.
The online algebra class is super simple to follow. The weekly lessons are A-LOT of material so just pace yourself and make sure you get everything done in time. The professor also provides lots of tips and extra videos for help.
Take professor Abbondanza, you won't regret if you're going to actually do the work! He's great! I took an express 5-weeks course with him and he went above and beyond my expectations! I sent him an email with a table w/ 11 questions from the P-Exam which I was having a hard time with, and he replied me back with 11 videos explaining me one by one.
I took this as an online Summer B course as a high school dual enrollment student. It's mostly self taught, but he and the SI answered quickly. Be prepared to do lots of homework in a short amount of time for Summer A or B. The reviews are just like the tests!
AVOID taking this class online. Lots of lectures that were provided that did not reflect the homework nor tests that were given by the professor which made it very hard to pass the class. Responses from professor seem nonchalant but he is actually a nice guy. Maybe this class would've been better if taken in person.
Professor Z is an incredible instructor who teaches the material very well and takes his time in answering questions for students. You can have a virtual meeting with him and go over any questions you have. In addition to all the resources available for each section I also highly recommend additional tutoring that is accessible from the College.
4 exams and a final, homework and in class quizzes and part of grade, the exams and practice exams are completely different questions from the hw and quizzes tho
Stay far away
Excellent teacher, will meet with you as many times as you want to for extra help. I never had a teacher who emailed me after every exam. Not the easiest class, but the prof really cared about how we did. Definitely recommend if you have trouble with math.
Great guy! He answered every question I had (I had a lot of questions) right away and made videos to show me how to do things. He also kept track of my grades and emailed me after every exam with feedback and encouragement. Not an easy class, but I would definitely recommend prof!
If you really want to learn math and pass the class this is the professor to take. This class isn't easy, but it's not hard either. I have never had a professor who cares so much about their students passing. He takes time outside of class to meet with you in zoom appointments and explain everything you don't know. He is truly amazing and caring.
I took this prof. for three different courses. (Inter. Algebra, College Algebra and now Survey to Calculus.) Even though I got a C on this class and TWO A's on the previous courses. This Prof. will help you every step of the way with giving you a chance to prove that you know the material and if you do then you will get the credit. Thank you!!
Great professor! Super nice guy! no complaints. He made calculus 1 stress free and simple to understand. also homework was optional but gave you ample practice problems so you can understand the concepts. Would 100% take his class again!
he does require a webcam and audio and responds lockdown when taking his exams. Other than that he's a really great teacher.
I took this professor for the Spring term of 2022. Before professor Abbondanza, I was in another Calculus 1 class. His class was amazing. His teacher's assistant hosted weekly zoom tutoring sessions before each lecture which was very helpful. After each exam, he allows you to make up two test questions. Would highly recommend this professor.
Took the online college algebra 2 course and it's very straight-forward and organized. I'm horrible with math but this course had several videos and example problems that help explain the lesson. It was superrrr helpful and the reviews are just like the exams! Totally recommend this course with Abbondanza.
He is the absolute BEST professor that I have ever had throughout my first semester of college. I have never taken Calculus before and I was terrified to take it for the first time but his online class is amazing. He gives assignments that are doable and you can email him about any question and he will solve one similar and send it to you.
Very caring professor. He gives opportunity to meet up following exams, to receive credit if the mistake made was simple. As long as you can prove you know how to complete the problem, you can receive credit. He also is extremely understanding. You can tell immediately that he has a passion for what he is doing, and really cares about his students.
He responds to emails quickly and he and his assistant have help sessions twice a week. I never asked for help so I can't say I'm sure he's helpful, but he is available. Homework can get complicated but there are many helpful resources like the "Help me solve this" option. Quizzes are short with 3 tries. EXAM STUDY GUIDES ARE YOUR BESTIE.
Great professor! The courseload is definitely manageable but just make sure you don't save all your assignments for the last minute. Prof. Abbondanza is very helpful - never hesitate to ask him a question! I'd definitely recommend taking a class with him.
He is a great and caring guy yet the workload is wayyyy too much, beware of tests they make or break ur grade.
The material is not that hard but gradually gets difficult (like most math classes). Professor Abbondanza was helpful and responded to emails pretty quick. You have to take tests on campus and he lets you bring a 3x5 index card with notes which was very helpful. As long as you put an effort to understand the material you should be good!
There are total of four exams and an additional final exam is optional, and can be taken to replace your lowest grade. Grade weighted 90% by exams and 10% by in-class activities. Prof is really caring the only downside is the actual calculus. I struggle with math but was suprised by the amount I actually understand. So much help is given, just ask!
I was pretty scared to take an express math term online, but it pretty easy. I felt it was a reasonable amount of work to fit into the semester. there alottt of assignments (the video lessons helped a lot), but the exams are what really count towards your grade. He's very quick to answer and acknowledges good work, i can tell he's very caring
Took the express class, got a D. Obviously Prof Abbondanza cares however the workload is crazy. I warn you, there's approx12 modules with quizzes due every 2 days. I literally had time for nothing else. I didn't eat half the time bc 30 mins away from the laptop meant I won't get the assignment in on time. The time crunch affected my learning.
5 exams/drops one, 24 passes to extend exam/quiz/hw due date, 75% exams/HW/Quizzes 25%, PALS session 2x/week, same-day response to emails, sends a video/handwritten notes pdf explaining HW problems if you email him. You can make up 1 question for credit on exam, exams are 12Q, no extra credit, exams in testing center or remote (webcam+lockdown).
Crazy huge workload. I stayed 1/2 the semester and didnt make it. His classroom was always very hot and he was monitoring the carbon dioxide ppm levels in the class because the air was so thin in there. He was good at explaining but I was weeded out by this class since it requires 40+ hours a week out of class to learn and pass. Get a better room.
If you don't want to teach yourself the subject, don't take his class. He hardly teaches.
Amazing prof, not easy but he really does a lot to make sure that you understand what you have to know. Tests are hard but he goes over everything and gives exam review sessions in his free time. He sends you videos showing how to do problems if you ask him a question on email. Do all of the homeowork and you will do fine. Very fair and nice guy.
The class was fairly easy. There was a set of assignments due twice a week including a video, textbook pages, 2 practice assignments with unlimited tries that include examples and a 'help me solve this' button, and quizzes with three tries allowed. There is mandatory online tutoring (once per unit). Tests weigh alot but the reviews are so similar.
He is really caring about his students and is a great lecturer as well. I really appreciated how I could send him a message at any time and I would always get a response. If I were struggling with a homework problem, he would send me a video of him doing something similar. Amazing person, I cannot recommend him enough.
I came into this course with a lot of anxiety and no background in algebra. I could not have asked for a better professor than Professor Abbondanza. He helped me, through several Skype sessions, turn my B into an A. He knows his stuff, and he knows how to explain it in a way that makes it easy to understand. I have nothing but appreciation for him.
I took this professor twice, Mac1105 and Mac 2311 would take him again. Great Professor who explains difficult math concepts well, and is always willing to help you. You can have a note card on the exam and redo some problems if needed. Take the class seriously: do all homework, attend classes, ask questions in-person or via email and you get an A
Take any of his classes, although exams are taken on securus lockdown browser, which in my opinion is invasive, i take online to avoid interactions or being recorded. He is so nice, caring and smart. He will give you many chances to correct your grade if needed, just put in the work, study and take advantage of tutoring. 10/10 Professor.
Great professor, he is nice and cares about you. But 80% of your grade is on tests. They are usually about 18-20 questions, so expect to get them all right or 1-2 wrong as its the only way you'll pass his class. Unfortunately I'm not good at math, so he isn't the best teacher to take when you struggle in math.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS !! STAY FAR AWAY !! He is very inconsiderate !! He is very aware his class is just a credit & makes it impossible to pass.
I did well in this class honestly because I'm good at math. But, Mr. Abbondanza is very caring and makes sure you don't feel alone. Even allows one on one appointments for help. Very clear on assignments and very communicative.
LOTS OF HOMEWORK and only worth 5% of your grade!!! He is an alright professor, do not recommend taking if you are not good at math. He wants you to basically teach yourself everything, and he seems frustrated when you ask questions during the lecture. Attendance is worth 10% of your grade, and there are only 3 exams, but WORTH 80% of grade
He's not bad, per sa, but he could be better. He gives test worth almost 80% of your grade (frq) and lots of homework that's only worth 5%. I also don't like the tests, as they often cover more than one module (I do better one test per module). However, he's lenient. You don't have to do every single hw problem and he grades the tests fairly.
If I could rate this professor in the negatives, I would. This class physically and mentally drained me, I'd honestly rather walk over molten lava than retake it. He doesn't care about his students and doesn't teach anything. It's a full DIY course where you teach yourself everything. If you want your mental health drained, take this class!
It is a exam heavy class; they are worth about 80% of the grade. Studying goes a long way, and the final exam replaces your lowest exam score. He offered extra credit events opportunities. The only reason I would not take the class again because it is DIY heavy, and I believe I would learn this topic better in person.
It was online so we didn't meet once. The class was difficult for many people, but the set-up was fine/good for me.
