Very interesting and entertaining professor. Uses real-life examples to illustrate difficult concepts. Great support if you ask for it. If you need a babysitter, take a different class. Provides good foundation for health care career prep!
Confusing lectures and tests, hard to grasp what to study for mid-terms. Does grade on a curve which helps. Nice guy all around, be prepared to struggle throughout the semester!
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE BIOLOGY 50 CLASS!! His CD is horrible and hard to understand. If you are the least bit confused he is not helpful at all. I tried to reach out to him and ask him questions because I wasn't understanding some things and all he said (basically) was that I should have known the c
Nice teacher, good stories but a little hard to follow. Tests are confusing structured different from his lecture. You need to study all the materials given in his class.
Really good teacher. Shares real life experiences to make class memorable.
The CD is confusing and hard to follow and he offers no other material. He is distracted and not helpful during lab. His tests are mostly not on lecture or CD material. He seems offended when students do poorly on tests. He is a nice guy, but a terrible teacher. I was excited to take the class and very disappointed.
My advise if you are going to take his class is to take the regular class NOT the hybrid class. The CD is very general and has not been perfected yet. The lecture exams are ok but the labs are very hard. The problem with the hybrid class is that lectures are not helpfull. His test are not based on lecture material. VERY TOUGH CLASS!!!
This class was a waste of time. The cds are unclear and the computer stimulated labs are hard to follow esp. when the images are unclear. The lab book was written by him and was hard to follow. His lectures are often unorganized and out of place. Physiology is a hard course, if the teacher doesnt' teach well, it will make your life even harder.
worst teacher i had at chabot. lectures are boring and out of focus.never around to help out during lab. Rude to me whenever I asked him questions, he gave me the impression that he didnt' want to answer my qestions. Take this class at another college.
BOOO :(
Don't expect to be spoon fed. Online/CD class requires discipline. Not rocket science, CD replaces lecture, learn at your pace but you need to keep up. Any science class demands TIME, try keeping light class load. This class is MUCH HARDER at Cal State. Exam material comes from CD and lab book exercises. Keep up and you'll do fine.
I dont' expect to be spoon fed. I just want a teacher who does their job. in my opinion, this guy doesn't do his job coz he doesn't care if u learn anything, he does everything for his convenience.
By far the most unorganized professor I have ever experienced. Classroom was a pig sty. The in class computer labs are useless. The material is not difficult, his presentation of it is. Be prepared to really study at least 10 hours a week for this class. His ability to half ass everything makes his class very frustrating.
Really wants students to do well. Gives extra credit work to boost grade, clear about what would be on tests; no trick questions. Was very helpful during labs. Have to work hard to cram so much info in.
Dr. Marawala is extremely smart and definately wants students to do well. You have to study to do well but it is manageable. That's life in college. So hang in there b/c the class is definately worthwhile. The tests are not easy but there not tricky.
all he does read through his CD. He made those CD to make money. He sell it way to expensive! very unorganize. not helpful at all
He was cool. I got an A. If you can't ace his class you will fail at nursing or dental hyg. Use his class to challenge yourself.
Seems like a real nice guy but very hard to follow. Also try not to take too many other classes if you plan on taking his class because it requires a lot of studying!!! I took the hybrid class which is probably not a very good idea either. Overall the class is hard and hard to follow! i was very interested in physio until i took this class.
I am a postgraduate student and in all my years of schooling this was the worst professor I have ever had. Please keep in mind that I am a good student - I received an 'A' in his course. Lectures are obscure and scattered, tests are unfair, and had I not had previous knowledge in the subject matter, I would not have faired so well.Dont do it!
Great, friendly teacher. This was a hybrid class. He has his own CD and lab book. The CD is great, but much of his artwork is poor acompared to an anatomy book. In-class labs are left to the students to do and as a result are disorganized and confusing. The lab classroom is a bit small for all the students also.
He's so condescending and always trying to impress everyone with his pseudo-intellectualism. He is extremely disorganized, as evident on his lectures and messy classroom/lab. As "smart" as he may be, he fails at trying to make students understand the concept that he's trying to teach. Tests were really confusing. Not approachable. C-
He is the worst nightmare of the good students. Chaotic exam, He use to get absent and gave exam that's not been discussed. DONT EVER TAKE HIM. HE WILL PUT YOU DOWN. He wont accept your reason. He wont care about the students needs. Grades are very important. He should know that! IF YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN A GOOD GRADE, LOOK FOR OTHER PROFESSOR.
This professor needs to evaluate himself or ask a lot of question, Am I teaching well? Are the students happy with the way I deliver my lessons and the grades that I'm giving to them (student). If you want a better grade and more comprehensible lesson. Look for other professor. Do not waste your time! If you have time to get other professor, do it!
i have to admit that i got an A in his class, but it does take a lot of work to do that! MUST be able to understand the process of how the body works based on his lectures. oh and be able to do graphs clearly and the quizzes too! you dont have to buy the book unless some of his teachings are confusing to you. thats where the book gets in the pictur
Dr. Marawala is a tough teacher, but if you study and pay attention, you will do well. After all it is a college class. I haven't gotten my grade yet, but what ever I get I got because of what I did or did not do. His test are somewhat tough but you learn.
I took the summer hybrid class which had a ton of information to cover within such a short period. Dr. Z is a wonderful instructor, easily approachable, great attitude- very easy to ask any question during lecture,NOT CONDESCENDING AT ALL!! He did his best to make sure that we understood all THE material in a course that c'd easily be overwhelming.
Very clear, excellent instructor! Definitely take him for anatomy and physio. He is so brilliant, wrote books and flashcards, very professional!
Dr. Physio is an awesome instructor. Physiology or any science course is never meant to be easy but he made the material interesting and funny at times. Study hard and pay attention, it will pay off in the end. Do all the conclusion sheets for lab and ask ask ask questions and take advantage of his ec.
He is a cool teacher and lets you make up some work before finals. He likes to give chances which is really helpful for those who need to graduate. However, study well for test and keep up with labs can give you a passing grade.
this is a hard class period. marwala is a funny guy but his notes are not presented clearly, soooo.... dont buy the book, just by his flashcards. take additional notes on his flashcards and study solely from there. it will help tremendously with the tests. oh and everything gets curved so even though i got "c"s on all my tests, i still got a B!
Dr Marawala's Physiology 1 class is very difficult but he is very helpful when you have questions. His lecture and lab exams are difficult but if you study from the cd, flashcards and his lecture you will be fine. His class definetly prepares you for med school, nursing school, dental school, etc.
pay attention to the side stories. you may think he is just side tracking but in that side track is always an exam question
Professor Z, was a fun teacher. He made the class somewhat interesting and not just a text book bore. He does require you to order his lab manuel. Yes, his... He wrote the lab manuel.
He is the master of physiology. Very well presented with lot of experience. Side tracking has lot of information so...keep taking notes. Very helpful. He explains using very realistic examples. WAY TO GO DR.PHYSIO!!!!
I took Dr. Z's online lab class. The material was easy to follow and if you had any questions he was more than happy to go over them with you. He would even answer questions directly off of the mid term before taking it! I really enjoyed this class.
He is a tough instructor and has lecture from 1-4 hours in length per class session. He talks in circles but does know a lot of information. He can be very helpful when you have questions; you just need to learn the right way to ask him. There is mandatory lab book assignments and some homework, but not much. His exams were very difficult, but all
umm..who keeps praising this guy on this website? avoid this professor because he is 1) disorganized, 2) unstructured, 3)all over the place. i consider myself a good student, but like most, i can only do well when there is ORGANIZATION. the CD is weird, the syllabus is weird, the exams seem like they've been recycled 100X and mention info not cover
He never responds to emails, or they got lost. Class is hard!! Try to take it with a easy prof if full and if you're trying to get into the nursing program!
He does not give fair tests. He says to focus on his CD, but many of the questions on his tests are not covered on his CD. Just because the lab tests are online do not make them easy! You are spending most of the time frantically searching on the internet for the answer. If you care about getting a good grade, do not take this teacher.
Very knowledgable. He is a walking medical dictionary - really knows what he teaches. Tells interesting story when he was practicing as a doctor. My advice: read ahead of the lecture and you'll find out that what he teaches really makes sense. Focus on his flashcard and CD. Very strict on lab graphs. Very nice and cool professor.
I think that he was a very fair teacher and has passion for the class that he teaches. He is fair and you can get an A if you do the work. He is on the students side and with a medical background is especially helpful. Make sure you ask about graphs because it is easy to lose points for things that are not obvious to you.
He was pretty awesome... Tough I admit, its not an easy class. It takes time, effort, and common sense. If you're looking for an easy A you won't find it here but if you put in the work in the end he will reward you. Do not argue with him over measly points here and there in the end he gives more than you probably earned. He's a wealth of knowledge
The class was hard and the material was, at time, scattered, but not impossible. I later figured out that his exams, lab and lecture, excompass materials from both lab and lecture. So study both, the flash cards and CD and you'll be fine. Do your graphs as complete, precise and accurate as possible. He deducts points for the smallest thing!
take him during the summer. you meet four days a week so its basically not a hybrid course. He tends to stray off topic or tell really long stories that don't even apply to the subject. The lab tests are group tests so you have more than one opinion. If you take it during the summer, he goes easy on you since summer is harder and faster. I got a B
He may seem intimidating at first but he's actually a pretty nice guy. He'll care if you care. Information can be pretty overwhelming but that's really normal in an Anatomy/Physiology class. Please take note that his class isn't for everyone and if you are the typical super slacker, you may struggle a lot. Discipline is important.
My class got A's and B's, but he curved pretty much every test. We didn't feel like we got the grades we deserved. He's very unorganized. Graphs and narratives count for a lot so ask for specifics. Don't buy the book, just study off the flashcards and CD. If you want an easy grade without learning much, take him. Eccentric, fun personality though.
The most unorganized teacher ever. Its a self learning class n make sure youre in a good lab group.Lectures are all over the place very unclear with the point hes trying to make.Everyone walked out not knowing much about physio which is horrible if youre in the medical field.
This class was interesting but I didn't feel that I learned all I should have. It's very much information thrown out here and there and you organize it yourself. Too meticulous about insignificant things on lab assignments. Curves too much and too many extra credits. It's pretty laid back which is good and bad depending. Has his own style I guess.
Had to be one of the worse teachers to have for Physiology!!!NOT helpful, explanations DIDN'T even make SENSE. I am a A+ student and got a C in this class, my GPA was 4.0 before taking this class. I highly don't recommend taking physiology with this teacher if your hoping to get into Nursing. your GPA will be runied you can kiss nursing goodbye.
Don't recommend taking this class in the summer. Way too difficult and he is not helpful at all. you basically teach yourself eveyrthing. Most people in our class got C's and D's. I can't imagine how this will turn out as a summer class.Good luck with that.
very helpful
He is helpful and very knowledgeable. However, he does not explain the material clear enough and often times most people in class were lost. You have to attend class and lab, he take attendance and give out extra credit quiz. You will not know when those quizzes will come. You should take him because he wrote the textbook.
I took his online class, however, it was only half online, which was only really studying. We met every other Friday. I would not recommend this class because you pretty much have to teach yourself everything! and your grade is only based on your tests. The whole class portion is just labs, which did not help on the tests at all.
When I took this class, I was expecting to get a C from all the comments I read. However, I ended up getting a B and that was with personal problems going on. The thing is, he's actually a super cool professor who tries to give you the best grade. He's not clear on his material yes... but he makes up for it with his extra credit. Just try your best
There's lots of information in this class. You'have to study things on your own. I wish the material was better organized with an outline for the lectures. The CD was at times hard to follow and the book was just dry with information. I wish there was a regular text book to use. There is extra credit but don't depend on it! He is a nice guy.
Incredibly nice guy. You can tell he knows his material very well, but that he just doesn't know how to teach it. He is completely unorganized & some test questions are out of nowhere. I did decently in his class, but spent most of the semester frustrated with his teaching style and materials. Take another teacher if you can.
Dr. Z was a super nice guy, but a horrible professor. He was so disorganized & left most of the learning to be done outside of the classroom on your own time. His CD was barely any help unless you worked on it religiously. Labs were unorganized & left to students to figure it out. I crammed so much in between classes, I advise to stay away!!!
Hybrid class online a total joke, no guidance ,no study guide for any test and a ridiculous amount of work which includes reading three chapters and playing with an interactive dvd that has way to many content to go through without a study guide. Plain and simple stay away, I should have listened the previous posts. Lesson learned.
he is an awesome professor, very patient, very detailed orientated , very knowledgeable and it was fun taking physio in summer. he kept us going, kept us engaged and made us to work hard. in this class you have to earn your grads. i personally learnt a lot in this class. if you are a motivated student , he will help you to get good grads.
I took him over summer and he was fairly easy. His assignments were a little all over the place. But he is probably the easiest Bio teacher you can find. His tests were done half at home and half in class which was nice of him. He liked to tell stories so if you don't stop him he will keep talking and talking. But you can tell he enjoys it.
Dr. Z is a nice guy overall, however, his lectures are really unorganized. There are no ppts to follow by and he changes from his cd to mspaint while lecturing. There is a compendium in which he wrote but he doesn't not follow the order of it. He jumps from one spot to the next and in many cases tell info is not there at all. Terrible teaching
Dr. Marawala is an amazing professor. The subject matter is difficult, but he is always open to help you do your best. He created an entire online program to aid student success.
the days we met for lab we barely did anything he didn't really lecture he expected us to understand everything off the cd he made for us very laid back teacher test were straight from his CD i wouldn't take him again i didn't learn much which is a bummer. it could have been a mixture of his teaching and my lack of motivation in there
Unorganized lectures is probably why I didn't understand and became bored. no ppt used just switching from drawings to his CD and the CD is a bit confusing it self. very laid back teacher test are from CD and a few labs
Lectures can be very unorganized, SELF-STUDY is a majority so if you don't have good time-management skills, don't bother taking this class. The CD can be very annoying, work on it religiously with the textbook & you'll be fine. If you really want to pass, do all the EC & stay after class for Q&A/clarification if needed.
Marawala is a tough professor. He knows his stuff, but his method of teaching is incredibly ineffective. He makes a big deal of the graphs in class, so make sure they are as close to perfect as possible. I would not recommend taking him unless you are desperate.
i have never seen someone so proficient in MSpaint. all the lectures are done on paint instead of the blackboard, lectures are so unclear, i have no idea what i am trying to learn. he seems like a nice guy but he needs to work on his teaching style. the CD, lab manual, and text book were all created on paint by him. he has no structure.
I personally loved Dr.Z! Physio is a TOUGH class and his teaching style may not suit everyone (lectures consist of a lot of talking and MS paint). I believe he was more than fair on the grading--he does curve. Some EC is offered, but don't expect much. He is one of the most intelligent and caring people I've met and really wants you to succeed.
Dr. Z is a nice guy, but has such a poor teaching style. He has his own textbook which you have to buy & CD which has all the things you'll need to know. Super boring lectures, & his exams are super tough. It feels as if he doesn't thoroughly cover what he will ask on exam. Def. harder then it should be, take a diff. prof. if you can.
Nice guy, horrible teacher.
Didn't like his teaching style. Get ready to make graphs. His book &CD were a nightmare. Unhelpful for the actual tests/quizzes. Makes you feel dumb for asking simple questions. Hence, no one ever asked questions in class. Don't take him if you don't have to. The type of teacher that makes you dislike a subject that is very interesting. Good luck
If you skip his lectures you will not pass. He is very clear on his grading and what he wants from you throughout the semester but he definitely gives you all the material you'll need to pass. Also he helps you and answers your questions even through canvas so I found his class pretty easy .
Dr. Z is a nice teacher. His style isn't for everyone. Key to passing this class, show up on time and everytime, don't argue but ask questions, pay attention, use the CD while he is using it on his screen, learn to read the material as is, study group and tutor. This class is very hard and he does prepare you for the board style test.
Do your own work, show up, ask him questions and you will be fine. He is more than fair to all his students. Students are so rude to him, he's just trying to teach a hard material in a way students can understand. If you can't even put in the work , you won't make it in nursing or medical school. Very board style test. Be open to the class and him.
Marawala is no joke but I did learn a lot. He's actually a lot more forgiving in his grading than what people are saying here. He wants you to pass, in fact he said himself he hates giving C's! Show up, do your best, make sure he knows you care about your grade, and you will be fine. He's tough but fair.
HE IS A GREAT PERSON, HOWEVER HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. GET READY TO MAKE LOTS OF GRAPHS.
Dr. Z is probably one of the worst professors in my college career, both in undergrad and now preparing for a Master's Degree. His handmade textbook has so many typos and is so poorly written is almost unreadable. Does not use class time well, and expects students to know material never covered in class or in the texts. Avoid taking this professor!
He is a GREAT teacher!!! He is passionate and knowledgeable. His lectures are heavy but he give you everything you need to know and gives you chances to get a good grade.
I really just came to class to nap. Lectures are boring and hard to follow; get ready for his use of the Microsoft "Paint" app which literally was the most unnecessary thing ever. I really wanted to drive off of a cliff every day after class. I should have just taken the 7am class with a different professor. I wish I could give 0 stars...
Im coming back to write this review after having professor Z over one year ago now. Im in nursing school and I realize now how helpful his class was for my overall science based education. Its not an easy class by any means, but if you are looking to go into the health care field and taking this class for a prerequisite for nursing, do it.
Overall a pretty hard class since there was a lot of homework. He also is a tough grader. If your graphs are slightly slanted or your handwriting is not neat, he will grade based off of that as well.
Overall a difficult class but I learned a lot. Professor Marawala is very knowledgable about the material he teaches. His lectures are heavy but if you read before class, you will do fine. He does give out extra credit and curve. He is an intelligent and great professor who truly wants to prepare his students for nursing/ med/ dental school, etc.
Professor Marawala isnt the best at teaching, but he does know his stuff. You'll have to self study most of it since his lectures are quite boring, long, and irrelevant. He gives out quizzes which arnt that hard. His exams are done on canvas. The questions are worded weird but he does curve, by A LOT. Also get ready to make graphs!!
Professor Marawala is helpful and gives good feedback. He does offer lots of opportunities to get a good grade with extra credit. However, his lectures are very dull and lengthy. He rambles off onto other topics that have nothing to do with what you are studying. His exams are very hard, but he does not mind explaining things again if you ask him.
He knows what hes teaching, but he cannot teach. This class borderline might be the most traumatic course Ive taken and Im reconsidering the medical field because of it. To pass read ALL resources given from him and take extensive notes and have a different textbook on hand. It helps to go to his office hours and talk it all over.
Dr.Z expects you to not only learn the material but understand how it is applied. Overall I am glad I took his class, his lectures are really good. To do well in his class be ready to read his lecture book, use his software and take notes while listening to his lectures. Follow directions on how he wants graphs drawn out and you'll do great!
He means well and is very knowledgable without a doubt but the man CAN'T. TEACH. He has us read from a textbook he created himself which does not go into enough detail and explanations. What annoyed me the most is his explanations and instructions during lab cause they're not clear AT ALL. Left us all confused and unsure about the labs. Very messy.
hes very difficult to learn from His lectures are lengthy dont cover the info u actually need for assignments and testing. I spent most of my time deciphering what he was actually trying to say and how to use his confusing software that's full of inaccuracies and impossible to navigate. I really didn't learn anything besides how to use his software
Professor cares more about drawing straight lines. I already graduated from UC and this is by far the worst teacher I have had. He grades hard on whether you can create a neat graph vs actually knowing the content.
My advice is avoid. Textbook is written by him and is very hard to understand and is full of typos. His lectures are long and don't cover what is on the quizzes and exams. Assignments are all graphs and he doesn't fully explain how they apply to physio. I have a bachelor's degree and taking one of his classes is by far the most disorganized.
He focuses on graphing a lot, which I don't see the point of. Make sure they are precise and neat. It is very helpful to purchase another physio textbook, since his own is very succinct. I had to read my additional text in order to understand his. I also say the additional text is needed because he does not welcome questions. You are on your own!
Dr. Zs class is one of the hardest I have ever taken. I recommend you find another physiology teacher. His lectures are long, boring, and irrelevant. His lectures do not help with the tests. Also, his book is full of typos/errors. You sometimes spend half the time trying to understand what he is asking you on the test. Good person, bad teacher.
His lectures are difficult to follow because he, very early, begins to talk about other topics that are irrelevant to the main topic. His instructions are confusing. Graphs have to be perfect. His textbook is very confusing with many grammatical errors. The tests and quizzes are confusing with many errors that throw you off a lot. I would avoid.
3 hour lectures with online lab through his 30 year old lab usb software (no joke). There are four exams with one lab cumulative final. I highly suggest reading his textbook and write notes. That way, youll better understand his lectures. Hes easily accessible during office hours. Honestly, this class was the most stressful and would not recommend
Has his own curriculum that he designed himself (his own dated software program, dated, old syllabus, graphs, etc.). Always hesitant to take a class where prof believes he knows better than the book and doesn't cover same material as other prof in same subject. Canvas is a disorganized mess, assignments are confusing.
I was in his Physiology class when in-person classes were canceled for the first time. We had to finish the class online. Had exactly 80% going into the final, and scored 82% on the final. In the end he gives me a C and says I did poorly on one exam. Only explanation I was given. Took with another teacher at Merritt and got an A. He is horrible.
Dr. Z is the most hardworking professor I have ever seen in my life. His exams are definitely very tough. You really have to work hard to pass this class.
Questions of the exam is very subjective.
