good sleeping pill! English!!Exam? On what? some teaching would be nice!!!
liquid nitrogen freak! HORRIBLE prof!!
Study the text and you'll get an A+
Very entertaining. Has interesting demonstrations.

Best physics prof ever... only person able to peak my interest in the subject.
Not interested in helping anyone who struggles, only likes the smart ones
He's a genius, and only likes his kind

Great prof! the first time i've ever understood physics well...
Great demonstrations, but I wouldn't want to work with the guy...
best physics prof, always willing to help eventho i wasn't the smartest student
great prof, interesting demos
I often feel more confused coming out then going in, and I'm good...
hyperactive: pretended to be a chicken, demos every class AWESOME but NOT nice

good course notes, great demos!
avoid this teacher if possible
Typical physics prof: Crazy, and fun to listen to. His class is the only class I haven't got bored in so far.
Great demos but exactly what have we learned since Semptember? If the scale had 0 for clarity, that is probably what I would give him. Very funny in class but mean outside of class.
Crazy, Hilarious, Smart, Good lecturer! The Course isn't easy - but HE is very reasonable! Definately take his class if you can't handle the phys and the hilarity!
Nice guy. Great prof. Sense of humour? WOW! Awesome demos. You really have to show him that you care. Quizzes in every lecture are a bit much. Guess who I have for PHY 1102? VIVA STADNIK!
thanks for failing me; i've always had over 80% in all of my courses; i really did try my best in this course; an exam being worth 70% of your final mark is REALLY unfair.
Hilarious prof
To many derivations. Not enough emphasis on important concepts. Demos look cool but they are sometimes pointless.
Innovative teaching style- "flash card" questions allow for participation despite the class size, and daily quizzes force you to keep up with your reading. INSANE assignments, though. Kinda intimidating personality - can you say intense?!
i didnt like him to start but after having very much worse profs i realize he was actually really good.. intense teaching keeps you listening, lots of videos and stuff, good in his office hours...very long assigns though
Basically, the final exam is a lotto. It's like playing lotta 6/49, you just guess and hope you get at least half of them.
good prof, hard class can't say much more then that
Result in this class depends on the your background from high school in physics and calculus... if you consider yourself having a weak background in both areas in high school, his class will prove extremely difficult. However his final and midterm are both open book, so you still have a chance
Stadnik is an AMAZING prof! He is EXTREMELY clear, presents information in a very comprehensible and interesting way and has an excellent ability to teach.
Makes good use of visuals/ videos/ demonstrations, but teaching ability sucks a lot. How he won a teaching award is beyond me, one of the worst teachers I have ever had.Too much derivation of BS, OAC physics did not even remotely prepare people well enough for this course.
This guy was an absolute idiot. He wasnt a teacher... instead more of a dictator. He worked hard on preparing his stuff no doubt, but his class was just too intensely hard.. he thought that physics was the only class that we had to take that semester. not at all empathetic toward students.
It's a good prof, he uses a lot of teaching tools and acts really funny. I think he has a good way of teaching by giving us quizzes and assignment so you can't get late in this course and you're not gonna to be last-minute. And the flashing cards is an awesome idea, just like playing millionnaire.

You ever notice how he would neglect to shave for 4 months and come to class every day looking like he just hit the bottle? It made for an extremely amusing semester. I especially enjoyed his Nazi-ish attitude, almost as if he didn't want to be in class. He seems to be very angry inside. Is this what I'm gonna be like after I get my Physics degree?
Stadnik is right up there with Habash for Most Entertaining Prof's. He was the perfect example of the eccentric physics prof I was so looking forward to in university. "With this apparatus, you can crush anything and /anybody/" "You could use the mirrors to spy on your wife!" "Don't worry, you will not be burned!" ... The dude is the man.
who doesnt love stadnik. He is the best teacher around, and he makes class wourth going to, other than the quizes. His sense of humor is something to laugh about too.
can't really teach but sure makes class interesting. runs the class as a guided self-teaching course: expect to spend a lot of time on this class. he's ver organized, and he puts a lot of extra effort in, but tends to just plough through information so fast you don't know what hit you and the next thing you know he's dumping liquid N2 on the floor!
Stadnik is neither easy nor helpful, but that does not take away from his quality as a teacher. The fact that Stadnik is such a hard-ass is very respectable, and the strict boundaries he sets makes success in the course feel so much better. He is not kind nor friendly -- that is not his job. He teaches physics, not high school math to the stupid.
This dude has no feelings!Has no compassion, doesnt care about his students, his assignments are way harder then the mickey mouse questions he solves in class, his course notes are completely useless! This guy deserves an F-.
Lectures are interesting but the actual work is hard. Stadnik is not very approachable.
I love this guy. He's gets soooo excited about physics, and the accent just makes me want to pay more attention.
Not a nice guy, hard to understand. Lots of demos. Likes to make a mess. Spends too much time rearranging variables and not enough on physics. Final worth 70%, not fair.
He definitely has very high standards, but I suppose its for our own good. If you can survive his impossibly difficult assignments and exams, you will be no doubt ready for any physics class to come. Just beware, if you try to be friendly with him, you will find yourself very disappointed.

He has NO IDEA on how to teach a class. He works with the variables, and before you know it, he comes up with this huge long equation that no one has any idea of how he got it because he goes so quickly. Might as well read your book and just go tothe exams, because he is absolutely useless.
Does excellent examples, but follows his notes too quickly and does not write anything out just uses the notebook
crazy prof, expriments are insane
One of those goofs that know everything about physics, but probably have trouble using a bank card. He is the worst teacher i have EVER had. Coming into universtiy i had a 93 in physics, he is so bad at teaching ill be lucky if i pass.
Okay this class could go either way. He is funny and good entertianment but when it comes down to material it is hard to understand
crazy guy
Stadnik is a very good professor. Be warned, though, that this class requires an interest in the subject (which the student should have if they are taking this course). It's based on self-directed learning, and Stadnik's only there to help cover the hard parts. He is not approachable, but ensures the class understands each topic before moving on.
Very knowledgeable about physics. His class requires a lot of independent studying though. His explanations dealt with higher-level math we had not yet covered. He has great in-class demos. Assignments are very hard, but if you go to the DGD's and take down his solutions, you should be okay on tests and exams, which were open-book.
I love Prof. Stadnik's lectures. He explains concepts very quickly, but has MANY DEMOS and VIDEOS to help you understand. Assignments are NOT THAT BAD, the questions come from the TEXTBOOK. Midterms and finals are openbook. :) However.. Prof. Stadnik is quite strict and mean - "If you don't understand, go back to kindergarten!"
One of the best you can get!
k well lets break it down, he looks at students like lab rats. he looks, sounds and seems like the guy who built frankinstien. and finally, he can cae less about ur grades, his tests r impossible, and if u ask him for help hell gladly make fun of u or spit in ur face. if u have him, drop the course nd take it in the summer
This guy made me hate Physics. The only reason to really attend his lectures is because he gives quizzes which go towards your mark, as well as see his crazy experiments. Notes are very hard to understand and most of the lecture time is spent going through tedious derivations of equations and what not. DGD's are hell! U gotta write fast!!!bad prof
Really hard to comprehend and makes things more difficult than they actually are. No use asking him to increase your mark cause he won't do it. Study hard or stay away
Really hard to comprehend and makes things more difficult than they actually are. No use asking him to increase your mark cause he won't do it. Study hard or stay away
I've seen some bad profs in my day but this guy takes the cake. You can tell that he really doesn't care. He zooms through the material and tells you how it easy it is. Regardless, he teaches a first year course so you have to work around him.
One of the worst profs I've ever seen in my entire life. I have seen bad Profs. but this guys is one of a kind!
This guy seems like he would be a pretty good guy if the relationship wasn't him with a mic, and you in a chair. He flys through the material, making it incomprehensible, and just so much harder than it actually is; followed by him stating that everything is easy. He really could care less about his class. Avoid this prof if at all possible.
I've seen some pretty bad profs in my day but this guy takes the cake. He reflects really poorly on the university.
Worst prof ever! He explains really bad and he complicates the material!Assignments and exams include things not discussed in class and his exams are extremely difficult! He gives quizzes every class about the material that he will still explain so we study unexplained material to be able to solve the quizzes. He is also intolerant with students!
Not an easy class, but a very interesting one thanks to Stadnik's crazy and entertaining antics. My advice: Read the book before lectures. No, *really* read it. Attend class. Use the physics help centre.
Awsome professor. He makes the class entertaining. The work is hard, but it is physics after all.
The photo of him on that bike with a co2 bottle on his back was a great day. He's hilarious! Study hard. because: 'If you don't understand, GO BACK TO ZE KINDERGARDEN!"
His demos are entertaining, and he can be funny. But his teaching skills are pretty poor. He seems to memorize his notes and regurgitates them. We can read. His expectations are a little unrealistic as he expected us to integrate during the second week of the course. His assignments are hard, and exams are tricky. He's not friendly so beware.
Loved to go to his class, not because of the quizzes, but because he made me laugh SO much. All classes were entertaining. Good times. Anyways,HE IS A BAD PROF. Exams were all MC = did not learn. I passed because of the labs and because of my friends and I cheating. CONCL: do not take this class if you want to learn... unless you want entertainment
Super entertaining prof. Looked forward to all his classes and demos. Intimidating at first. Exams are MC and open book but extremely hard. RELY ON THE TEXTBOOK. The questions on the exams are often adapted examples from the book.
Not the best at teaching. He tries really hard and gets some ideas conveyed well but somethings he is not great at explaining. He focuses on theory which is important but about 30& - 40% of his evaluation is based on numerical problems not theory problems. His exams are open book multiple choice which is good or bad depending on you.
Worst prof ever. Don't even think about taking this class unless you are a physics major or you love physics. If you had trouble with high school physics - this class will own you harder than you could ever imagine.
Overly difficult, does not care about students and constantly belittles them. Exams do not reflect class work or notes or textbook. Clearly hates teaching and students.
This class killed my GPA, along with PHY1121. I don't recommend taking this class unless you absolutely have to. He made the final exam much more difficult than anticipated. His theory questions were more on the "fair" side. Study hard, attend DGDs, try the assignments and pray you pass the course. It's more of a gamble than pure academics....
His class will kill your gpa, and even if you attend every lecture and DGD it can't prepare you for the final because it has little to do with the course. The class average must have been an F and this is with about 20% of students dropping the course. Only take this class if you must.
This is the killer class. Honestly the exam and midterms involved no calculus but still hard. Problem is he assumes everyone is fluent in integral calculus coming from H.S (Used to be with OAC but not anymore) so everyone ends up getting lost in his lectures (phy1121 and phy1122).
He's actually quite a hilarious prof. But his teaching is rather useles. If you have the nerve to ask a question during one of his lectures (or his DGD's where he just reads problems out) then he'll tell you "don't belong in university, go back to highschool!" He's very intimidating but if you study hard enough you'll pass his course.
Awful, awful professor. His lectures are hilarious, but don't really teach you anything. He also seems to hate his students with a passion and tries his hardest to avoid helping them. The Final was completely ridiculous, and all multiple choice. The labs and assignments got me through the course. Avoid him at all costs!
go download the instructor solution manual, and do every single question.
This was the hardest class i have ever taken, it was also the first exam i have ever failed. It is HARD. Dont underestimate the exam. The assignments are impossible, i suggest finding the solution manual on google... The labs dont relate to the course material at all.
He keeps lectures very interesting with a variety of demos, but unlike most profs, he caters to the interests of more advanced students, and leaves weaker ones in the dust. A good knowledge of calculus is assumed, and be prepared for a LOT of independent study/practice. Midterm and final were challenging, but not ridiculously so.
He does a lot of crazy experiments in class, which makes things interesting. But, as far as teaching goes, he just regurgitates his notes. Exams are a bit tough and he doens't really seem to like people. After two classes with this guy, I'm decided not to be a physics major anymore. That should tell you something.
This is by no means an easy course. DGD questions and past exams are your best friend. Prof isn't very approachable, but he does a decent job conveying the material. Exams and midterms are relatively challenging.
Very good lecturer. Does entertaining experiments nearly every class. The exams are multiple choice, and you have about 5-6 minutes per question. I found them very difficult for that reason. Work hard. MasteringChemistry practice questions are the best way to learn. Don't discover that too late like I did. Do them all, and you'd probably get an A.
PHY1121- very similar to HS physics. Advice:Buy the notes from marion. It has examples in it that teach how to apply forumlas. Do the selected readings, but only the ones that are mentioned in class. Anything that seems super complex in the textbook -e.g. calculating inertia with integration - isnt on the exams. Understanding notes is important
He was okay, he teaches a hard course so it is hard to judge whether he is a good proffeseur or not
His lectures are made interesting by the cool demonstrations (he does quite a few) and you also write a quiz once per lecture, which pretty much forces you to attend. His midterm ad final questions are similar to the DGD and MasteringPhysics questions, so print those out and bring them with you. He's also not very approacheable for questions.
Great Prof. Great Content. Hard but interesting course! Work hard and ask lots of questions! DGDs aren't that great but the prof really explains well at office hours
Responsible for teaching the meat grinder course in the Physics department with large amount of student. Strong classes, lots of class participation. all tests multiple choice&open book, but in a way that makes you dread open book.
If you cam get him as a prof, take him. If there is any prof that you will remember after you graduate, it's Stadnik. He does go at a fast pace, but he needs to make time for his dynamic examples and quarky jokes. "Who thinks that they will land in the same spot? Too bad! Physic is not a democracy" - Prof. Stadnik
If you really need a course and he happens to be the one teaching then take his class with light weight courses. Other than it's better to find another professor who's more open for answering questions and ensuring students to succeed. This prof does only what he's paid to do more than that. There are other profs who offer his course so wait until.
Study from the text book yet buy his lecture notes from the first day. Always be ahead of him even though he goes on a fast pace! Do not think that he will boost ur mark because all the class failed.. He just does not care about that
He's a fun professor..mainly because if doesn't make the lectures entertaining there would be absolutely no reason to attend his class or even take a course with him. BRUTALLY HARD and its not caused its physics, it how he teaches physics. He's not an unfair guy, he just fails everyone. Try his class out within the first two weeks and you find out!
I'll be straight to the point. This guys is a prof but passing his course is nearly impossible. Barely made it through his course (labs and assignments helped me out).
DEMOS. That is all.
Lectures were pretty dull, until for one lecture he put away the prepared slides and lectured with the chalk board -- then it all made sense (he kind of rushes through his own slides!). In-class demos were great. Wish I had actually read the textbook and watched MIT physics lectures all semester. Final exam was open book and quite easy.
Absolutely HORRIBLE! His lectures are just him reading off of his hand written projector slides and he won't explain anything at all! His exams are ridiculous, long multiple choice and open book, so you better hope you're a good guesser. If you want to understand physics DO NOT TAKE HIM AS A PROF!!
My final for this class is in two weeks and I have learnt nothing. The labs and the quizzes will save your mark. His experiments are funny but overall i feel like he has taught me nothing.
I am only here to help first year students coming to the university. DO NOT take Stadnik if you care about your grades. I can't emphasize this enough... Physics was my best subject in high school, and the hardest and my worst subject here because of one horrible professor. His exams are from other schools and are not meant for first years.
Stadnik is an awful professor and I DO NOT recommend taking this course with him. Labs and assignments will save your mark. FInal and Midterm are killer. Also reading off slides doesn't help students learn... doesn't do any examples in class and is just not good at teaching. Luckily exam is multiple choice is MC so if you get lucky you can pass...
Stadnik is pretty funny however his lectures drone on and on with him just rehashing his course-pack. I do not recommend taking his class and I still have no idea how I did well it in - no advice will prepare you for his exams.
Worst physics professor out there. Physics was my favourite course in high school and eventually lost my interest till I met this prof. you don't learn anything from him, and also get ready to read alot.
Textbook useless, course notes essential. Buy them asap. Study is by putting post it notes to organize his course notes. Exams are open bookopen notes & multiple choice. He has a VERY thick russian accent and does not explain stuff well. If you can pick a different professor, do it because he will ruin your love for physics. Class average: D
You have to read every single page of the textbook assigned. It is very hard to keep up so don't fall behind. This course covers too much material and has to be self learned. The lectures are just him skimming through the course notes which is pointless. The average for the final was easily failing, most people passed due to labs and assignments.
He's an amazing prof!!! He made learning physics a breeze, I used to hate physics in high school but learned to love it with this guy. Midterms and the exam are open book, which is super helpful! Would definitely take a class again with him.
Awful teacher. If you don't understand something or have a question he mocks you in front of the class and tells you you'll fail. Flies through his lectures without stopping. Cares nothing for the students. The only reason anyone passes is the assignments and labs. Only good point is midterm and final are MC and open book with bonus marks on them.
Goes too fast for the vast course material and doesn't care about whether the students understand or not. Has unnecessary quiz every lecture that requires you to read(about 10-27 pages) a day before it, assignments were unhelpful and the midterm and final exam was extremely painful(still wondering how I passed). AVOID HIM, IF YOU CAN'T GOODLUCK!!!
Horrible! Run! Do this course at Carleton during the summer and for PHY1122 make sure you take Rogers
RUN AWAY LIKE A BAT OUTTA HELL. He has a couple in-class cool demos, but it DOES NOT make up for the fact that he still uses messy projector sheets with handwritten notes and makes ZERO sense in class. He did accomplish the impossible though, very impressively: he made me despise physics more than I already did.
Hes a savage. Does demonstration in class that are like extreme sports in class, he has a air pressured bike, he dumps water in the class after experiments. And he will tell you to think fast and chuck a tenis ball at your face. HE will make u sleep, he uses Overheads to teach and buy the book becuase the midterm and final are open book. Avoid him
Prof. Stadnik gives very entertaining demos in class but that's about it. He understands the material well, but doesn't manage to convey it well in a lecture. Would avoid if possible.
Dr. Stadnik was always available to help, provided you know how to use a phone, and was always pleasant (and often funny) in class: his demonstrations are almost worth the course. His exams can be tough if you don't prepare, but if you pay attention and make preparations (since they are open book), it is a simple matter to get an excellent mark.
Prof. Stadnik is actually not a bad lecturer. He does these funny demos in class that help the idea of what he's teaching stick but let's face it, physics is hard. The course itself is hard and the open-book exams don't always help. The textbook is a must and his lecture notes help but do not depend on them.
when you try to solve a problem in his exams this is how you do : omg I can't do this, this problem is impossible, how can someone do this? but after looking at it again perhaps a month later, you go like : oooh that's how to do it , i wish i knew this during the exam
Avoid this prof at all times. Does not care about student success or teaching. He thinks he can get away with his awful teaching with demos that fail more than half the time. Worst prof I've ever had.
DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE. Coming from someone who works really hard DO NOT DO IT. HIs exams are not fair and you will suffer. YOUR CGPA WILL SUFFER. LEAVE WHILE YOU CAN. He his not helpful and doesnt care about his students. (If you do have no choice,I suggest practicing textbooks questions everyday. But this is hard to do).1011
He does not convey the material properly and only cares about getting through the material quickly. Make sure you read before coming to class, the quizzes saved me as letter grade. Also, make sure you study literally months in advance for the final. It is the hardest test I've ever written. Class average for the final was 42%.
Stadnik seems to have a bit of a reputation in the department for being tough, but I thought he was great. Granted, I am a physics major, but I liked classes, and his lecture notes meant no writing needed. The tests were open book, and had bonus marks, so I made an equation sheet and was set. In class quizzes could be tricky though not worth much.
Get ready for the biggest hit your GPA is likely to take. That is all.
Not very popular, but a good physics prof. His lecture notes are great, I only needed the text book for study questions.
Prepare to derive 3 or 4 equations out of 100s of given equations to solve a single question. from his lecture notes, textbook is useless. his teaching style sucks, doesnt go into depth, prepare to read 40 pages before every class
He does not care about students unless they are in love with physics. Try to avoid this prof. You can still pass with him because the midterm and final are weighted so small. Midterm was fair but the final was the hardest thing I've ever done. The readings dont help with the in class quizzes so dont bother doing them.
Textbook is useless, exams are taking from second year physics from other universities, he uses his own lecture notes which are confusing. to solve his questions u pretty much need 3 questions to solve for one variable which u then plug into 2 other equations to find another variable which u plug into 3 more equations to get the answer. he is haram
This man will make you re-think your life choices.
An absolutely awful professor. Does not remotely care about the students, nor if they succeed. Goes on and on about theory and derives millions of occasions, and hardly ever goes through problems. Ask a question that has been covered before, and he will tear you to pieces. Tests are all multiple choice, so things go downhill quickly.
Idk why I gotta take this stupid class; Stadnik made me hate physics more than I ever thought I could. He moves too quickly, his English sucks, and to top it off he derives equations for the majority of his lectures instead of providing practice problems. Best of luck learning off of Mastering Physics.
I really enjoyed Prof. Stadnik's class, his lecture notes are very good, all hand written on old transparencies, but legible, and meticulous. Lectures were good too, there was a small four question quiz at the start of every one, but the lectures themselves were packed with demos and generally very interesting.
Dr. Stadnik gets a bad rep, but he's a pretty solid guy. His exams are completely multiple choice, and aren't crazy difficult. His demos are hilarious and he's very knowledgeable, but he's far from the best teacher ever. The assignments are also crazy hard, but you can use them to teach yourself the material (along with your good friend google).
While his demos were often hilarious, his exams were completely unreasonable. I spent hours preparing for our second (open book) midterm and barely managed a 60. He spends lectures showing you equations on a powerpoint but not how to use them, derive them or manipulate them for use. Equation manipulation is 98% of his exams... Good Luck!
Stadnik is well-hated, however once you get past his brusque attitude he is actually a very good professor. He explains the concepts he teaches soundly, and gives awesome demonstrations, many of them ending in hilarity. However, it is necessary to listen well when he lectures, as he does not take to answering questions very well. Read the textbook!
swtich out of his class
The worst prof I have ever had. Rude and thinks integration is for Kindergartens. His tests are open book and multiple choice and yet it is extremely difficult. No amount of studying can prepare you for him. Don't skip class, do all the assignments and labs to help you pass.
If I were you I would do all I can to find another prof for this course. Doesn't offer many resources for you to succeed, mostly all up to you and teaching yourself.
I think Prof. Stadnik is actually trying to improve his course, he also explained many questions during the lectures. Since the course itself is kinda tough, please do all questions on MasteringPhysics, you won't do well without enough practice ( the major problem of the most students). And yet, reading takes too much time in this course.
Online assignments worth 15% of the mark (you must pay $105 for access). In-class quiz every week (8%). Two midterms (11% each) and a final exam (55%) - both open book multiple choice. Stadnik has set his course so he marks NOTHING himself. Used final lecture to review units 1-3, then only put units 4-5 on the exam. Rude to the lab demonstrator.
His lectures are not really useful since the pre-lecture reading contains everything. To get A or A+, Please try to do the past year exam questions as many as possible (though he never provides you with any this kind of resources). Beware of asking him questions, he may mock at you! Avoid him if you are not confident in physics.
He's an OK prof (does a lot of demos to try to keep it interesting) but reads off his slides a lot so can be pretty boring especially since attendance is mandatory (there's a quiz every class). Midterms and final all open book, multiple choice. Tough course but if you work hard you'll do fine. Also pretty sure he bell curved the final.
Expected you to learn all the material from the textbook before class and barely taught anything during the lectures. Lecture time was taken up by mandatory quizzes and elaborate demos, although he did provide good notes online.
PRINT THE COURSE NOTES HE GIVES YOU IN DOCUCENTER AND MAKE IT INTO A SPIRAL BOOK. The lectures are super boring and what is important is what's in his lecture notes, do the homework, understand it and find past midterms. If you have his notes printed into a book, the two textbooks and past midterms you have a good chance to have an A. Open book exam
Hard to understand or hear but hates questions. Will embarrass a student for asking a question he deems stupid
Everything is multiple choice. A midterm question is 7.4% of the midterm grade. Buy the course-pack, print his note, no way around it. Open book exams. Has good demos in class. Will threaten to sue you. Heartless marker. Kind when you make an appointment with specific questions. This class was hard.
Now that I am in second year and have had more profs, I can tell for sure that Dr Stadnik was a good prof. This course used to be 2 so its heavy to teach, but he does it all in time. His demos are amazing, I just wish he'd let us take videos. Very kind in his office, mean during the lectures. All questions MC.
Very funny prof, but exams and midterms were only 14-31 multiple choice questions and heavily weighted. Difficult exams.
Worst teacher I had my first year. He would go through chapters very quickly (went through one in 10 minutes), give few examples which he went through rather quickly, and if someone asked a questions he wouldn't answer it or would answer in a very blunt way. Also, it sounds like he yells during the lectures. Overall terrible prof. Good luck!
Worst class I've had so far
His lectures are interesting and demos were cool but he taught way too fast and hardly went over any problems with good detail. Exams are MC and are very difficult and hard to prepare for.
What he teaches in class has nothing to do with his midterms or finals, and you'd still have to go his classes because of the quizzes. Never taking him again.
honestly the worst thing in first year
Stadnik is an ok prof. His tests and exams are multiple-choice and open book but don't let that fool you. You will need to know what you're doing before the test. If you can get your hands on his old tests he often reuses questions. Make sure to take notes and do the practice. study and you'll be fine
Avoid at all cost.
Stadnik's teaching style is horrible. His exam and midterms are open book thus making them extremely hard. You also have to read about 22 pages before every class in order to succeed on his quizzes everyday. AVOID HIM at all cost and your GPA will thank you.
Simplest solution to taking this class is honestly just to take a different prof. It isnt worth taking this class with him. The labs, quizzes and the assignments count for 38.4% so you can probably easily pass the course, but his exams are very hard. e.g. It is an open book exam so i brought in previous exam and not a single one was even close.
This was my hardest class for first year engineering. Stadnik teaches well, but be prepared to write notes quickly. There is a 4-question marked quiz every class to see if you did the pre-class reading; however, you usually can answer the questions through basic logic, so do not worry about them. The tests are open-book and difficult. Good luck.
worst prof
Stadnik is a tough prof to love. His lectures aren't helpful(demonstrations are fun though) but you have to go because there is a concept quiz every class. Readings are too long and hard to finish every class. I started just reading his written notes and was fine. Tests are very difficult open-book multiple choice. Threatens to sue us kind of often
Didn't love this guy at all. His lectures aren't helpful (demonstrations are funny) but you have to go because there is a content quiz every day. Readings are really long and hard to finish for every class. I just read his lecture notes (no txtbk) and was fine. Don't let "openbook" fool you: tests are VERY difficult. Threatens to sue students.
Stadnik cares about his students and his demonstrations are entertaining, but he's a bad teacher. All his assessments are open book but notes don't help. If you have to take this class then find old midterms and finals and get the solutions to them (he repeats questions a lot). If you study based on understanding, find a different professor
Stadnik is legitimately the worst prof I've ever had in my life. You need to read sections of the textbooks before every class because there is a quiz during every class. All his assessments are multiple-choice, so if you make one mistake, you're done. I recommend finding and printing all his past tests and bringing them into the open-book exams.
Professor Stadnik is the toughest prof I've had. It's impossible to understand the materials he teaches during lectures (which is already very difficult). His evaluations are all multiple choice and quite difficult. He's a poor communicator in and outside the classroom who I would avoid at all costs.
Awful professor, inaccessible outside of the classroom, does not share the recordings of the classes or his slides, very much uncaring, exams and midterms are extremely difficult, you need to do all the work on your own in order to actually learn something.
Excellent prof. Exams are all multiple choice and very fair (way easier than homework/DGD). Do the mastering homework, attend DGD, read the textbook *before* showing up to class, (and perhaps extra textbook questions), you will get an A. His demos are fantastic. Students tend to project their dislike for physics onto the prof. But put in work, A.
Dr. Stadnik is the toughest prof I've ever had. Pre-class readings were huge, lectures weren't helpful and no questions allowed, and the exams are the hardest tests I've ever written, because he goes out of his way to find the hardest possible questions that you technically know how to solve. If you have him, RIP to your GPA.
Prof stadnik starting his lec with a quiz , which requires huge work for preview. He kept talking and ignored question in class.
He's funny, but doesn't seem to care much about his students. Takes a long time to respond to emails, and doesn't help out much. His lectures are interesting and he's entertaining but again he doesn't help out much with questions and makes his exams tough.
He teachs well and I find him funny. The work expected from the students is a bit more compared to other classes, but nothing that is unbearable or to make him the worst prof like many review on here. If you take notes from the textbook the day before the lecture and attend the dgds, you should be fine.
RUN!!!!!!!
He wants his student to participate in his lecture but do not answer questions that much, he is funny but do not really prepare for his students to succeed. In terms of replying to emails, sometimes he replies with irrelevant answers that do not even answer the questions. Miniquizzes takes place in every lecture, which increases the workload for us
The exams are so difficult. Labs are so unusual
He's funny. His demos are super cool. His tests are all MC; midterms had 14 and final had 30 questions. they're not too hard, provided you have an equation sheet. do the homework and DGD questions
This prof has no care in the world about his students. You are not allowed to ask questions in class which is super important to understand concepts in physics. He refused to answer questions about the midterm bc he says that its all included in his tiny email. You spend most of the class deriving equations rather than learning how to use them.
Professor Stadnik is an alright professor, he really enjoys making demos for students but his midterm exams this semester have been brutal. It would be really beneficial if he allowed the zoom chat to be open so that we could see other students questions and if we could do more exam level practice problems in class.
i appreciate the demos and his enthusiasm for the subject, but he can be very condescending; he laughed at me after i asked a question. didn't like that. there are quizzes each lecture, but they're pretty helpful! masteringphysics is your best friend. good luck if you have to have him as your prof.
Dr. Stadnik has quizzes at the end of the lecture that are worth marks. Do the pre-class reading and you'll be fine. A lot of people project their hatred of physics onto the prof. He's a good prof but he is not a tech person. He mutes the Zoom chat and microphone. I feel he would be much better in person. He has videos of live demonstrations.
I found Professor Stadnik amazing. While his content is not the easiest, if you are sincerely passionate about physics (i.e. you aren't just taking the course to obtain a credit), you should find his lectures fun to follow and useful. If you do your best, I'm sure you will be rewarded with a good grade.
Definitely not the best teacher. Lectures were not useful at all. You basically have to teach yourself everything by reading the textbook. The midterms and exams were so hard nothing like homework. I really like his demos though, cant deny how passionate he is about physics. If theres another option take it would never take a class with him.
Very old-fashioned. Expectations of students are way too high. Not sympathetic at all. He never posted slides and tells us to refer to the recorded zoom lecture if we want to see the slides. Would not let us collaborate with other students in the class by restricting chat. Makes everything for inconvenient for students.
Worst Professor I ever had. Can this guy please just retire for student's sake. First time ever I hated a professor personally. Just don't take this guy's courses, period.
Great prof, tough course which he teaches well. 2 midterms, 1 final, all multiple choice. Mastering problems and DGDs are your best friends. Does lots of funny demos in class. You do however have to work for your grade, which apparently upsets some people on here :/
If you like to your Prof to teach you, this guy isn't for you. He'll read things off of Slides, expect you to know the concept before the class starts (and quiz you on it). You'd be better off learning from YouTube than attend his class. In all seriousness, his class are a waste of time.
Yes, Prof. Zbigniew Stadnik probably is the most strict professor in University of Ottawa. Yes, you have to do a lot of reading prior to each lecture. Yes, you have to try hard to pass this course. If you really want to learn something new, something useful in your future career, take his course. His course really worth the tuition you paid.
The coursework online is a joke, the midterms are open book with no access to Chegg. Just prepare calculators and/or look up the questions online. I wouldn't have bothered saying anything but his attitude comes off when someone asks a question. Not to mention mandatory quizzes were a pain and WILL be a bulk of your learning for this class.
One of the worst first-year professors in the university. His tone is condescending, he hates answering questions, and the workload he gives you is just unreasonable for engineering students. Midterms are on weekends and classes are early in the morning, so you can wake up to the sound of him shouting at you to go to lecture zero. Avoid this guy!!!
Rude, refuses to answer student questions, tests are really hard. Pray for your GPA.
Everything is multiple choice which makes the average grades very low. Very difficult assignments and exams.
the lecture notes that is up on brightspace is in no way helpful since its all over the place and hand written, and the powerpoint slides he goes through in class aren't up on brightspace which makes it harder to study and go back to lectures. the demos that are being held every class are decently demonstrated and it helps clearing concepts.
DO THE PRE-CLASS READINGS. his lectures are fast and the slides aren't posted, making it hard to review. his midterms n exams are all multiple choice, meaning no partial marks. he is rude when you ask questions. exam is worth 40%, so if u mess that up ur done. he seems sweet, but i hate his class so much. avoid at all costs. literally run.
Course notes are incomprehensible, lectures are hard to follow and he never posts the slideshows so if you miss something you're screwed. He is super condescending and breezes through super complex topics. The demos are kinda funny so that's a plus I guess.
The demos he presents in class are very interesting and are enjoyable. The lectures were a bit boring and he went through material pretty quickly. The assignments and midterms are especially difficult and hard to complete. The final was a lot better. Definitely attend the Grand Review as a lot of problems and equations given there are on the Final.
Universities should have younger professors teaching because this old fashion teaching method that professor stank uses will only get people to hate the subject even more. Useless class for engineering students and his early morning quizzes are even more unless. I truly recommend you to take it in Carleton (profs are just better there in general)
Stay away from Stadnik if you can. He makes you do these daily quizzes based on super long readings that takes hours out of your week. All the exams are multiple choice, and types of questions that we had never seen before. Don't let the open book tests fool you, it just allows him to make them 10x harder.
Easily worst first year prof. No respect for his students. Lectures are useless except for the mandatory quizzes each lecture. He made a mistake telling us the wrong due date for an assignment, and when I was given a zero for late submission I asked why I had been told the wrong due date and he proceeded to berate and humiliate me over email. Run!
tough subject, good prof. if you do the assignments and read the textbook, lectures will make sense and life will be easy
Very tough prof, he only post very old had written notes. He never uploads PowerPoint slides. In every lecture there is a quiz that are wroth 6% of final grade. Do not take the course with him at alllll runnnnnn
For the sake of your GPA and sanity do not take this man's class. He was the only prof teaching it so I had to. He does not post slides, he talks to you as if you have the intelligence of a brick, and he quizzes you on >30 pages of pure physics every class. The only thing he posts are notes that look like they have been written and scanned in 1873.
This prof does not teach at all. He cares about finishing the lecture more than answering students' questions. Whenever you ask him questions, he would humiliate students. REALLY NOT RECOMMENDED.
What makes his class difficult is the reading of ~25 pages before every single lecture. You've got to read them as he quizzes you on that material before starting his actual lecture. He's also very rude to his students. But besides that, he's not the worst. Just do yourself a favour and go to the last lecture, no matter what is preventing you.
Engaging lectures with interactive elements and great demos. He was pretty intimidating and intense. He assigned unnecessary reading every class. Evaluations were entirely multiple choice, so every little mistake would take off 5-8% of your grade for that evaluation. Go to class (ESPECIALLY the final review, where he goes over exam questions.)
Tests: 6/10 Lecs: 4/10 Study materials: 9/10 Pros: - Asgts and practice tests are good for learning (use 'physics forums' for help) - Cheat sheets are amazing (open book exams) - Pre-readings are useful - In-class demonstrations are fun Cons: - Don't ask questions in class - You do most of your learning outside of class using practice materials
Super passive aggressive, not one of the nice professors first year students are used to. Do the readings, do the quizzes, find old tests on Studoc or Prep101 and take those with you into the midterms and finals. Don't underestimate the difficulty of the open book midterms and final, you need to understand the problems and know what you are doing.
Stadnik is one of those profs you'll either grow to love or hate. All of his evaluations are multiple choice, so no room to make mistakes (1 wrong is 7% lost on the midterms). Will humiliate you if you have a question. His demonstrations were the only thing I looked forward to in class. He does make some jokes occasionally though.
All tests are multiple-choice, and every class includes a quiz on the textbook reading. He doesn't teach but "develops on the textbook" during the lecture period. Doing the reading does not equate to getting 100% on the quizzes. The all-or-nothing evaluation style is a detriment to his students. If you can, avoid his class at all costs.
not a great teacher but exams are all open book and he reuses old questions
Horrible prof. Do the readings and go to the DGDs to actually learn the material. Tests are extremely hard if you don't practice with tests from previous years. Do well in the labs to salvage your grade.
This professor is one of the rudest educators I have encountered. He does not have respect for his students and only teaches in a way that makes it most convenient for him. Avoid this prof at all costs!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! This class almost made me switch out of physics. Your grade is split between midterms, final, lab, homework and in-class quizzes, which SHOULD make this class doable. Lectures are impossible to follow + he only posts indecipherable handwritten garbage. Gets mad when you ask questions, and his (open book) exams are IMPOSSIBLE.
The course load is already tough, and the professor does not make it any better (if not worse). Little constructive feedback is given and concepts are poorly explained.
Worst prof in Ottawa U
Stadnik's class is challenging, but it's manageable with dedication. The lectures can be tough to follow, but his in-class demos are engaging. Utilize resources like the textbook, practice tests, and Unstuck study to succeed. Overall, a rewarding course if you're willing to put in the work.
Worst prof at Uottawa by far. Better off letting a highschooler teach you.
Although his reviews average poorly he is an amazing professor. On both midterms half of the questions are discussed in class through similar examples. In other words, attending lectures you're gifted 50% on each midterm. Assignments are difficult but at office hours he's able to provide derrivations and or give you very helpful hints. 9/10
I ended up dropping this course cause it was too much work for something that wasn't going to count towards my degree. He is a great prof in class but the exams are very difficult. Very reading heavy and little to no practice problems unless you go looking for it! All exams are open books, but the lecture quizzes are not!
Not a good listener - does not answer questions well. You get the material or you don't mentality. When you ask for clarification, he tells you that you should know. If you're lucky, he might go on a tangent and MAYBE it's related to what you asked. Doesn't care or want you to ask vibe. Horrible. Talks to the SIDE wall and does not use a mic.
Very negative teacher, very rude and should not be able to teach
This is easy course if you read the context and do practice by assignment and questions. However this prof is rude and no respect on any one of the student. He will humiliate you in public and even telling TA “ignore this guy” when you turns to ask TA on the side. he can even be said to have no idea what basic respect is.
Terrible prof, a lot of readings ahead of every class. No attendance is required but have quizzes every class so attendance is kinda of necessary to get marks. Shows no respect and as others say, he would humiliate you in public when you have questions to ask (bro thinks he's the best lecturer). pretty much a self-learning course.
Lectures are borderline incomprehensible and rely on the heavy textbook readings he gives you before each class, and during class he straight-up ridicules you if you ask a question. Tests are long and exclusively multiple choice with some answers 1 decimal apart. If you want to survive physics, RUN from this guy. In-class demos are fun though 👍
Never again please :(
This is a self-taught class. He is the only professor for some of these courses (different years) so you either pass or you have to retake with him. It is not enough for you to have a general concept. You need to spend the time to understand your material well because compared to other professor's exams, his requires a very good understanding. GL.
A lot of the reviews and rumors you hear about this professor are true.
He's literally just a grumpy old man thats the best way to describe him. Actually the goat though, easy A his exams are all open book and MC. Can't believe he's still around and willing to teach though. Must be that huge pay check he's making
