Her first language is japanese, so her english isn't that great. However, she's able to speak quite loudly and clearly despite some poor pronouncations of some words. She explains the concepts completely. She's kinda funny sometimes and friendly too.

Terrible prof. Stopped going to class because she somehow manages to make simple concepts confusing and difficult, despite an A+ in 5.100. You're better off buying the Grant's Notes and showing up once every 2 weeks to hand in the assignment.
Very hard prof. and very annoying. She talks way too loud. Dropped the class because she was just too much to take.
she only give some basic examples, and does not explain the concepts quite clearly
STAY AWAY! She is extremely difficult to understand and most of the time, she doesn't even know how to do the problems. Most classes were spent with students explaining concepts to her
ergh. Her english isn't the best. She doesn't always understand what you're asking [God forbid you have a question..] She doesn't explain things very well. She has an accent, which isn't TOO hard to understand. She makes the class semi interesting.
Don't go to class! Buy Grants, like I did, and I got an A+. Just hand in your assignments every two weeks THEN LEAVE!
Not great, not nearly as bad as you might think. Average. very average. (Which is a step up from many of the other stats profs.) PS: I think she's phillipino, not japanese. She just took her university degree in Japan.
Canadians have no discipline, just ask her...if you can understand what she's saying that is. Seems to be angry with everyone all the time.
She is hilarious! She hates Americans and make fun of ugly people in the examples she gives in class. She is very helpful for questions when you go to her one on one. She is the best.
very helpful on one-on-ones.
Mateo is an average professor. She is very friendly and fun as a prof but her lectures are very disorganized. She makes mistakes and errors quite often and she is a loud speaker. Overhead notes are way to small. Keep trying Zeny!
He note is not organized. Have to copy a lot from the transparency and somtimes i have no clues what she is talking about.
Course is not easy because you can not understand anything she says. She can not handle fractions or decimals. Does not know what she is talking about. Takes forever to mark a midterm that is computer marked. Gives away midterm/final/assignment answers!!
she does not explain clearly, and she keeps repeating the silliest stuff over and over again. she is also not very quick with calculations. i would recommend to just study from the book: course is easy.
She makes atleast 3 errors a class, is not helpful at all, and when you ask her a question, odds are she gets the answer wrong. She should not be teaching. If you have her CHANGE NOW.
Bad, really really bad. Whatever you do avoid her. She makes many many errors per class and should NEVER have been hired
Is annoyed with any questions asked in class, stopped going to lectures, learned the whole course on my own time (more effective) - she had me confused the first day (5.100 stuff) and I am an "A" statistics student!
One word, "asshuming", if you guys have her ever, you will know what I'm talking about! I also agree, she does make many errors in her examples. When you ask a question in class, she gets very loud and starts talking about stuff that totally doesn't relate to your question, making you look stupid.
Impossible to comprehend, horrible notes, lot's of mistakes in practice questions
can be quite defensive when you ask questions, i agree. but go to class and she'll give you all the answers to the assignments. study all the lessons from Grant's book and practice lots...at the end of the day, she's not the one that writes your exam.
It's true, she's quite defensive when asked questions and she makes a lot of errors.
Good teacher, explains things well. you can't expect to slide through with an A without doing the work and studying. She does make errors, but once in a blue moon. Does have an accent, but not difficult to understand at all. She's deffinetly better than some other stats teachers I've had!
Took in summer, she was very confusing in class. MANY of her assignments had mistakes even the answer key and she did not bother to inform the class. Does not explain concepts clearly and hard to understand at times. Not many stats 2 profs to choose, but she would be 2nd last choice. Honestly, better off studying by yourself or sit in others.
Good prof. You just have to pay attention in lecture and do the homework problems and you'll do fine. She's way better then some of the other profs I've had in the stats department.
Maybe she's better than some of the other stats profs I've had, but she's very hard to understand, and not very helpful at all.
She isn't as bad as a lot of people on here are portraying her, my complaint is only that sometimes her in class explanations and notes confuse you - but if you study on your own it;s definitly manageble.
A little bit hard to understand. Her notes are messy and difficult to read. She gives nothing but examples so it becomes more of a memorization course. She's really nice in person but her notes are just so awful and some parts of the course aren't even in the textbook, it makes it that much harder. Reconsider picking this prof.
she is not good at all, she made mistakes at marking ,no response about email, unclear about lecture, just pulling out examples, finally, put long answer questions on final exam, what the hell is wrong with her
I must start with the long answers on the final exam. When 99% of the class wants no long answer questions and you agree with them, don't change your mind for one person who cries about it! Prof is alright, but how interesting can stats really be?
Thought she was a very effective prof. she gives out very thorough examples in class and puts them on the interenet so that you're not frantically copying in class. Also both the midterm and final were quite easy.
Very defensive, she snapped at me when I questioned her about a mark I received, she told me to go home and think about it when, infact, I already did (more than half the class already got their assignments back earlier than the other half, she didn't even wanna hear me explain it), accent's not that hard to understand. Good notes and great example
Very good professor. English is pretty good, and she knows her material very well. Uses lots of examples, and the assignments aren't too bad. For midterms & finals she adds her own small section of long answer questions (to the std m.c. mids & finals). For those complaining - she's one of the BETTER profs you can have for Stat 1000 & Stat 2000.
Out of all the possible STAT 1000/2000 profs, Mateo is definitely one of the best. Stats isn't really my thing, but Mateo definitely helped make it easy to follow and understand. The assignments weren't too bad and had plenty of time to complete.
Dr. Mateo is a very challanging and quite libelous professor. Her teaching style is "understand it...or understand it". If you ask a question in her class, she will embarass the heck out of you and not actually helping you with the question!! Textbook also waste of money. Got A+. Mid-term and finals were a piece of cake! If you learn on your own go
Has an accent and annoying to understand. She can not explain anything properly, especially if you have a question she is not able to clarify anything at all, just makes you feel stupid for not understanding. Just before the mid-term I bough Grant's STAT1000 book and stopped attending class. That book taught way better than she ever could hope to.
She is hard to understand. You find yourself drifting in and out of reality because she is so boring. Stats with her is confusing, when the course should be easy to learn.
great
nice lady. too bad its a pretty poorly put together course.. text book is terrible, complete waste of money..
Nice Lady and makes jokes in class, but wait until the exam, you will find that you are not ready to write it.
not organized
horrible prof! stay away from her if possible!
great prof. had a hard time in the class but she went out of her way and helped me understand everything as possible. will take another class with her..shes one of the best stats prof u can ask for..very easy to understand then the other profs you would have in stats.
Just buy Grant's Notes and go to class and you should do well.
Now that there is webassign she is awesome. She goes over the exact questions on the webassign, so its sooo easy to do your assignments. for assignments you dont even need grants, but still helpful for studying. I recomend her. you will ace your assignments. she is also kinda funny and is really nice and cares.
I understand every words that she said, for the note that I don't like stat before going to her class. Now is just a so so because she gave you the complete answers for the assignment how it should be done. i didn't think that I could get the grade that I get but still I did it, coz she's a pretty easy prof.
Sure, she gives you the answers to the assignments and everyone aces them. But come exam time, be ready to panic! She hasn't actually taught you anything! Bad prof. Avoid.
Dr. Mateo isn't very good at teaching but she's such a nice lady so I'll forgive her for that. Don't complain if you have her because it could be much much worse.
I just don't get it - the material is EASY, but Mateo CANNOT teach at all. Yes, she gives you full solutions to WebAssign questions, but this won't help you for the exam questions. Her "lectures" are garbage and notes are unclear. Got an A+ in stats 1 without Grant's, had to resort to Grant's for stats 2 or else I would have failed.
Her "lectures" are garbage and notes are unclear
Shes better than the other profs teaching stats. Attend class before midterms/finals cause she will tell you what you need to know!! Other than that, her notes dont make sense. I only went to class cause she tells you what to do on assignments
Very poor. Only good for telling you the answers on webassign. Never answered my emails. No show for a meeting with her. Buy grants and don't expect to learn anything from her.
awful, should not be a prof.
Horrid! If you want to pass this course find another prof! She never answers emails, and cant explain anything, her notes are a waste of time!
i recently switched to her class from Dr. thavaswaren's class. i find her a infinite times better than that other prof. trust me, he is the worst prof ive ever had. i seem to think her teaching isnt that bad and i can understand her accent clearly
Never refers to where in the text book we are, hardly explains anything, saying everything is on stats portal, which it either isn't or is just a question without answer or explanation. She is completely thrown off by questions in class and makes mistakes in her explanations. Something just didn't click with this prof.
She seemed pretty sloppy. Her 'online help' was useless and posted way to late to bring to class anyway. Hardly discussed theory. Never refers to the textbook. Provides terrible visuals, and doesn't care to explain the complicated details (i.e. the things you actually get tested on!). Never occurs to her to show us how to use the tables :S
Purchase Grant's Notes. There isn't a single good professor in the entire faculty who teaches entry level Statistics. Attending class is a colossal waste of time, in fact, I'd recommend Distance Ed. for Stats 1 and 2. Also, Webassign is pretty much the worst thing ever. None of the questions will prepare you for the final. This course was a waste.
She doesn't know how to work with electronics. she takes up 20mins of class to figure out how to work the overhead, the iclickers and her computer.
Very poor! Does not know what she is talking about. Going to class was a waste of time. The only way to understand the material and do well in the course is if you buy Grants. Can't and never explains anything just goes through homework problems. Spent most of the class complaining about her. She should not be teaching this course!
JUST GET GRANT's TUTOR! Mateo's an okay prof, good thing is she wants everyone to pass so go to her if you need help she knows her stuff....but seriously don't even bother with the textbook, just get grant's.
She's 'okay' prof.. She teaches you what is going to be on the tests and exams.. GET GRANTS for sure.. What she teach in class is the same as how grants teach it.. Dont bother reading her slides.. Answer multiple choice book and you will be alright.. GO TO HER REVIEWS! She gives you what is going to be on the test and exam!
She is a very good professor who always encouraged her students, advised them what is required of them in studying for tests and helpful. she did her part of the job, which is explaining the class materials as concisely as possible.
She is such a wonderful professor.
Do not read her notes, although if you pay attention she isn't a horrible prof. Buy grants and study that only and you will do fine. The only bad thing about the class is that you have to attend to get iclicker marks. P.S. she wastes class time to make you pick pigs out of a garbage can to learn matched-pairs experiments, such a waste.
She is okay, it was sometimes hard to understand what she was trying to say. Grants is the way to go for sure!
Pretty good. she wants to help. Is really funny. Is just a little inconsistent with her speed through material.
Funny lady. Hated the online assignments; They were super pointless and time consuming. Overall she's not the greatest, not the worst.
very funny prof calls the a standard deviation curve a "sexy curve" lmao. she keeps the class entertaining however can be be extremely defensive when you ask her a question she'll put you on the spot.
Had Prof Mateo for a first year class and switched out after 3 weeks. Was very pleasantly surprised at how awesome a prof she was for a 3rd year course. Extremely helpful on assignments, and spelled out exactly what to expect on midterm and final exam. Overall a pleasant experience. Highle reccommended as long as class size is less that 30.
Gotta love the "Sexy bell curves." She definitely has an interesting style of teaching. Often injects lectures with college level humor to keep the class awake through a fairly dry class. She doesn't have much of an accent and her classes aren't too bad. I'd recommend her!
Dr Mateo is pretty decent for stats she's very funny (sexy curve lol) and candid which makes for an interesting class. If you want to do well in this class get Grants and study that religiously the text book and her notes are rubbish however look over her notes as test questions come directly from notes sometimes esp on concept questions.
I highly recommend Dr. Mateo. Her notes are very easy to understand (how anyone can suggest otherwise is crazy), I studied her notes exclusively and got an A. Funny and upbeat in class, extremely helpful in office hours and nice to talk to. This prof cares about how you do in her class, take this with Dr. Mateo and put in the effort, you'll do fine
Decent professor. Easy to follow notes, can pretty much study strictly off her notes and do well in the exams. Assignments are easy as she gives you past assignments with answer keys, which have the same types of questions. Would take another course with her.
terrible. Her examples include squiggles. Her explanations are vague and without detail. Her accent and poor speaking make it hard to understand her at times. Complains about students e-mails for the first 20 minutes of every class. Ending up behind schedule for every unit. Her notes are impossible to read. Find the next prof on the list.
She can be really funny, and really tries to make an effort to keep the class entertained. She uses the iClicker frequently, but helps a lot of the time. The class always runs really smoothly, but generally other Stats 1000 classes are ahead of us in the material, so she can be a bit slow, but she is helpful none the less
Decent Prof with a professional attitude. Cracked a few jokes during lectures. Was always helpful enough when I had questions.
She is extremely helpful outside of class and is very, very prompt with emails. She often will go above and beyond if you have questions regarding the assignments. Most of the frustrations I had were due to the department of statistics' lack of organization and had nothing to do with her. Her accent isn't a problem. Overall a good prof.
PLEASE DROP HER CLASS AND CHANGE TO ANOTHER PROF! SHE WILL RUIN THE CLASS
ALTHOUGH SHE IS KIND ALL THE TIME, SHE DOE NOT REALLY SOLVE ANY PROBLEM...ONLY PREVARICATE...WHEN SOMEONE ASKS WHY, SHE ONLY KNOWS SAYING "OH THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION AND YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL" HER STRONG ACCENT MAKES THE CLASS INCOMPREHENSIBLE...AND USUALLY SPEND 10MIN COMPLAINING ABOUT HER STUPID STUDENTS
Retoke this course to get a better mark and ended up with a crap teacher. You can't understand her through her accent at all and she assumes you know all of the statistician lingo (but we dont) and continues using them without really explaining anything. Find a different teacher! Dont get stuck with her!
supplementary interpreter required
She is a good professor! Everyone complains about her accent, but you get used to it. She is funny and makes class enjoyable. There are a lot of iclicker questions but they help test your understanding of the knowledge. Her notes aren't the best, so i'd recommend buying grants tutoring. This class is easy if you put the effort into studying! :)
Everyone complains about this professor. Yes, she has an accent, but you can understand everything she says. This class is not an easy credit, you need to work at it. Do not rely on the professors notes, make your own and practice the material! The grades you receive are not to blame on the professor. If you study hard, you will do great!
She is a decent professor. She wants everyone to be successful after taking her course. She teaches clear and very lively in class. And most of all she is a very approachable prof inside and outside the classroom. I would like to recommend her as as a Prof.
I found her to be very confusing and hard to understand.
She is very helpful to students. She will really give all her time to teach you until you understand. But be sure you need to go to her Office hour. Her class is alive and she is sometimes funny.
She is always helping a lot students who need help. She is a very professional teacher. She is really very helpful to explain things which are not clear to me. Her clicker questions are really helpful.
Good prof. Don't bother getting the actual textbook she doesn't use it at all. Her notes are fantastic. She explains things very well! She does have an accent but she speaks very clearly. iClicker questions weren't too hard she walks you through them beforehand. Funny in class. I would recommend her.
She was nice when you talked to her one on one but her teaching was horrible. I couldn't understand anything she said and she assumed that the majority of course material was already known. I (as well as many of my friends in the class) had to self teach ourselves. We ended up with very low grades.
Probably the worst prof I have had for any subject ended up spending my time in the stat lab instead of her class because she was unable to teach me anything
She makes everything very clear if you actually go to class. Iclicker questions are challenging but not hard. Tells you what kind of questions that you should expect on tests.
I took STATS 2000 online last year and failed. I took stat 2000 with this prof in summer (3.5 week course) and was really worried because of how fast this course is. This Prof really made everything clear and I actually understood what I was being taught! I am happy with my marks I have received so far thanks to this prof. Recommended!
STATS 1000 is a little more advanced than Applied Math but this prof makes it harder than it needs to be. She is slow, you can't understand her and after a while you have to teach yourself. The exams are worth a huge portion of your grade and by learning nothing all term it results in a poor final grade.
I like her way of teaching.. very engaging with the use of i clicker in class. She is very helpful during office hours and always available in her office..
Dr. Mateo was great! I did find the lectures to be a bit long because she often repeats herself, but she said she does it for the students who have trouble catching on. Only problem I had with the course was that the department messed up my last name and room assignment for exams but Dr. Mateo took care of it herself! Really cares. Office hours!
Constantly repeats herself but I couldn't actually follow her, had to teach myself the material. iClicker participation required, but it's nice that if you get more than 75% of them right, you get 100%. Her slides are neat but when she writes on the projector, very messy. Many online assignments. Do yourself a favor and get the Grant's textbooks.
She's honestly not the most clear prof and her notes and explanations can be a little confusing at times. However, she is by far the most "likely to help" prof I've ever had. She answers emails quick and is always eager to help students in office hours. She's pretty funny sometimes too. She has an filipino accent but is not hard to understand.
Gets angry when asked questions in class, doesn't answer emails regularly, hard to understand, repeats self over and over again but doesn't clarify, yells into microphone, very slow with explaining the simple concepts but assumes everyone knows what they're doing with the harder concepts, rushes iclicker responses! BAD PROF, USE GRANTS BOOKS
Good prof. Very helpful during office hours, lectures are easy to follow since she often repeats herself. I strongly recommend grants book for this course since it can get difficult. Also exams were fair.
Dr. Mateo is one of the best STATs profs you can have; she will come right out and say "this question is on your exam" and she explains iclicker Q's. Do NOT skip class; It may be tempting since notes are posted online but it will only hurt you. She is not afraid to be sassy right back to her students but she is very nice if you respect her.
Worst prof I ever had. Starts class with a rant about how many emails she is getting from students. Well, its because she's difficult to understand. If you have a question she repeats exactly what she just said, doesn't try to phrase it differently. I could go on forever, just don't do it. She seems like a nice lady, just an awful professor.
She always prepared in class and explain the theory by giving different examples. She uses a lot of clicker questions and explains the questions if there is a need to clarify. She is very helpful and very approachable both inside and outside the classroom.
Absolutely horrendous prof compared to the other great stats professors available. Try your best to get into any other stats professors class than this one. Has no desire to help the students at all, is very difficult to understand and her writing is terrible .She makes easy questions seem complicated. Avoid if possible.
Dr. Mateo is is a good prof. She repeats important concepts all the time which makes you remember it. Gives everything in class so you're gonna be okay during exams. She is very approachable during office hours.
This course is very poorly designed as there is too much material to cover in the length of time the course is offered. Will usually end up cutting stuff out at the end. Mateo is one of the better profs who teaches this course. She will come right out and tell you what is on the exam. But she has a hard time understanding questions from students.
Decent prof, very strong accent that I had trouble getting over. Be ready to teach some of the material to yourself.
Lecture notes are disorganized and unclear. There were 2 mistakes in the notes provided (which were both very important concepts)Probably the most boring lectures I've ever had to sit through. Takes days to respond to emails. Somewhat helpful if you go to her office hours, but you'd save a lot of time by taking this course with a different prof.
Beware of taking a class with Dr Mateo. The drop rate in her class is ridiculous compared to other proffs in the same course. She disorganized, gets off topic very quickly, provides poor lecture slides. There is no textbook for her course however I would highly recommend getting your hands on a textbook to make sure your learning the proper materia
Dr. Zeny was honestly the worst professor I have ever had. My biggest problem with her was that she used very (VERY) thick markers to write her formulas and class notes, plus she has bad writing. Her accent is very thick and she yells into the microphone. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!!!!
Probably the worst prof I have ever had. Goes heavy into theory when you do not need it AT ALL to pass the course, gives so few examples and iclickers that you are left essentially having to self teach. Also very unhelpful the times I went to her office hours. Don't take stats with her if you can avoid it.
Not a huge fan of Dr. Mateo. Often writes using an overhead, uses thick markers, and has poor writing. You have to listen if you want to figure out what she's trying to write down. Often says "it's just common sense", which a new subject really isn't. Difficult to follow, gives boring lectures, and wrote the midterm with poorly worded questions.
Had to take her for stats, i am a math person, but I found she repeated what was what came up on the final. prepared me very well for the final to be honest. very happy with the class and outcome. she has a loud and commanding voice, but she's funny, and even gave me a private lecture once because i had a final during her class.
Dr Mateo is very active in lecturing the class. She always use real examples to apply the statistical procedure and give the importance of the analysis. She is always available in her office for consultation even outside office hours.
Professor Mateo... We had someone do one class for her(she had to miss a class) the difference between the professors was unreal! This professor explained the material very well and was clear with what they expect on the final. Mateo leaves out important info, you might pass but it will be hard. Best off getting grants tutoring, or don't take her!!
Super unclear explanation of Stats concepts that really require you to understand what the hell is going on. A lot of the stuff you can learn easier by just looking at course notes and following tutorials on YouTube. Wouldn't take her class again.
This professor was average at best. Be prepared to spend a lot of your time outside the lecture explaining things to yourself. She also doesn't do the best job explaining as she presumes you should just know it. That being said she still cares about the students and wants you to pass. Just be prepared to put in a little extra effort with her.
Sometimes the course went a little slow and she repeated certain easier concepts too often. The last two weeks of the course felt rushed. But she's clear with her explanations and uses metaphors to help understanding. Exams were on lecture material. Make sure to practice previous exams!
She's so hard to understand most of the time. Her accent is very strong and she doesn't make sense. I taught myself everything so if you are not naturally good at math do not take her class. You must go to every class because of the iclicker questions.
She's super cute and hilarious. Although her accent makes it quite hard to understand her at times. However, she's caring and is willing to help you outside of class. Keep up with the material so you get the iclicker questions correct. Midterm was tricky so make sure to do lots of practice exams before.
Really bad description and explanation. Always saying "right" and hard to understand
Shes pretty funny
She is good at explaining the course it self but I recommend studying the topic first before going into her class.
Really terrible lectures and tough to understand. I self taught instead because I couldnt understand he examples or her lectures. Unfortunately you have to attend class for the iClicker questions. She repeats herself too much and doesnt have time for practice questions.
If it weren't for the clicker there would be no reason to show up to her lectures as they provide no insight into the material. She implicitly communicates her students are incapable of learning the material and then wonders why her section does bad. Read slides, do the practice assignments repeatedly as this is the real place you will learn.
Dr. Mareo is a fantastic teacher. You can tell she really cares about her students and wants us to pass her class. The exams are very straight forward and everything your taught by her is everything you need to know. There are no surprises. Overall, it was a great class and I would definitely take another stats class with her.
Hard to understand because of her accent, but you get used to it. Attendance is mandatory because of iclicker question. Studying lots outside of class will be required to make material clear and to get a good mark.
Lectures are not very helpful, her explanations are unclear and hard to follow. Had Zeny for STAT 1000 and 2000, didn't mind because they were both extremely easy and the course notes are so thorough. She's too smart to be teaching these courses, would be better for a high level class. Not the prof for you if you're weak in math.
Lectures aren't horrible, but goes over things too much and wastes a lot of time. Bad pacing, we were rushing in the end, learning new topics on the intended review class, 3 days before the final. Slides don't make sense a lot of the time. Often doesn't explain how concepts relate to each other or how things work, only lists the rules to follow.
If it wasn't for the iClicker, I probably wouldn't have gone to class to often. Lectures are shared online before hand so you can just read them over yourself and be fine in the class. She is kind of hard to understand during the lectures, However, she does share really good practice material online, and you can just do that practice and be fine!
Only reason I go to her class is for the iClicker questions. Her lectures are confusing, she fails to apply the concepts to real world examples save from "it showing on the exams" and she's got an accent which other's may find difficult to understand. The slides are posted online though, and those helped me a ton in exams.
Cares a lot for students to understand the material but doesn't care how students felt with how rude she and degrading she is sometimes. She calls out people in class and would say some unnecessary and rude things. She tends to repeat concepts and things way too much and it's a waste of time. Only went to class for i-clicker questions.
She obviously cares about students, but she's not a great teacher. I found it difficult to pay attention in class and her writing is really messy. You need to go to class for the iClicker questions. On a positive note, she does have really good notes and she tests fairly.
Her explanations were quite clear to me and her notes were well done with good examples. However, she was a bit rude when answering questions. Otherwise she was just fine.
one of the best . she is vey caring and love to help her students . I took the summer course and got an A+. She is very clear and solve all the problem in class. if you are focused in the class, you dont need to study at home .
Not the greatest teacher really but stat 2000 isn't too difficult. I essentially teach myself everything with all the thorough notes and extensive practice problems. Unfortunately, attendance is mandatory to get iClicker marks.
I've never been good at math, or anything other than written classes before, but this woman is a fantastic prof, helped me tremendously, and I did great in the class. Would highly recommend!
She is nice, and cares about students though her explanations and examples are very unclear. Get ready to teach yourself and spend a lot of time at home working on practice assignments for this class... bad. I-clicker questions are randomly placed throughout lectures, some containing several questions in one session.
Her accent is somehow strong but you will still understand her. I wouldn't say she's a the best prof for Stats 1k but she's not the worst. advantage you have with her is that she has good notes so even if you don't understand her you can teach yourself because stats 1k is an easy class. Don't rely on profs rely on yourself to learn
You probably won't find a boring caring professor at the University of Manitoba. I had her during the corona outbreak and she personally called me on my cell to help me with a project when all I did was email to ask a question. However, she tends to go off on tangents when teaching and has atrocious handwriting with somewhat unclear notes.
She's actually a good prof. She is quite entertaining which really helped my engagement. She responds to emails right away and provides tons of practice material you can use to prepare for your exam. You can easily get 100% for the quizzes. Midterms and the final were fair. make sure you study everyday tho!
she is extremely a good teacher and funny as well. if you do ur practise assignments and midterm practise questions u will be definitely fine. she is little bit rude when u ask question but helpful. she aim is and wants all students to be success in her class.
I recommend taking Stats 2000 with her since she was extremely reasonable. I mostly studied the slides and put in a decent amount of time, and ended up with an A.
Because of her accent it was hard to understand her at first. she was a little bit rude when some people tried to ask questions in class. I had a hard time understanding her so I didn't stay long for the lecture, I found UM Learn videos better than sitting in the lecture. It also took her around 30 minutes to start the lecture and course material.
Dr. Mateo made a very boring course fun to be a part of. She is hilarious and is clear about what she is looking for. Studied slides and got an A+.
For bigger courses like 1000 where she has less control, she's fine. But for this course she was awful. Incredibly disorganized, constantly violating the privacy of students, rude when ppl ask questions, has never proofread an email in her life and it shows (often incomprehensible). Her notes are garbage. Tests on things from other courses.
Overall I enjoyed Dr. Zenys class. She always reviewed the units with us before quizzes or exams, often giving questions that were very similar or the same as those on the assessments. Quick to respond. Provided ample resources. I did not like how she never proofread her emails- they were sometimes hard to understand.
She's a really nice instructor.
Best stats prof. Clear in her lectures and makes it quite entertaining too. Would definitely recommend her!
THE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD. First of all she can not speak clearly, she cant write properly, yes she cant write the other day we had and exam and she had typos in them, she makes typos in almost everything and doesnt care to fix it. NEVER EVER TAKE A CLASS WITH HER, SHE WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE
"My lectures are optional, all you need is the video lecture prof. Morris posted on UM learn". That's the first thing this professor told us on the first day of the term. Already starting the course by telling us it's essentially going to be taught by someone else isn't a good look. She's not helpful and hardly available. Avoid her if u can. 0/10
this professor was at times very hard to understand. I found that attending her lectures was unnecessary, since the real lectures were posted online for us already. She had a tendency to stick to one question for the entire 50 mins of lecture time anyway, so I stopped going to class and still have high marks. she was very kind/helpful otherwise
professors teaching math should have their students actively participating in their classes and motivated. Unfortunately these were some of the things dr. mateo lacked. Her way of teaching is just horrible, slow and boring if youre looking for someone better, switch to andrews section quickly! (would have rated her 0 if i could)
Worst professor someone can find. Whole class material is on UMLearn and she says to prepare videos before the next class because during class time she will NOT teach. According to her remote learning is not meant to teach students, remote learning means only give a LITTLE summary of content and answer the question that are spoken by the students.
Dr. Mateo is a great person, she cares about her students, is always willing to meet outside of class & is hilarious. Her lectures aren't super organized and you probably wouldn't need to attend them to get an A in the class. She does give some pointers during them though about exam questions to expect. Her quizzes & exams are very straightforward.
Pre-Recorded lecture videos were assigned along with various practice problems that prepare you super well for the quizzes/exams. Since the recordings were done by Andrew Morris, you don't really need to worry which section you are in. This course is super organized. Zeny is super kind and caring and acts like a mom to her students.
Dr. Mateo was the assigned instructor for this class, but all videos used for learned where recorded by Andrew Morris. This made Zenaida's lectures obsolete, but it was great that she allocated time for students live if they had questions. This class was very organized and provided great amounts of practice content to prepare you for assessments.
Only take a class with Zeny if you're capable of learning all the material on your own. She is very difficult to understand and gets mad when students ask questions. She is very organized which was great as I never needed to attend lectures and still get all the info. If you struggle with math/stats you are better off taking it with Andrew Morris.
She is awful i tell you. She skips slides to the point that it confuses you.
Dr Mateo is a good person and cares about the students, her teaching style is not very "first year" friendly and to be honest her writing during examples is very hard to discern.
Took her in winter22. Only got A+ because did not attend her lectures. It was online and all lecture videos posted were from another prof so that made this course easy. Whenever I attended her lectures once in a while, she just used to go over topics from the lecture videos and do questions but it was not helpful at all.
Zeny was a good prof. I found the midterm and final ridiculously easy. Like something from high school level lol. It may be hard to understand sometimes but its university so I understand that. DO THE PRACTICE QUESTIONS ON UM LEARN.
At the beginning of the term she went slow with lecturing, but shortly before the midterm she realized she was behind and began skipping slides. At the end of the term, she did not perform any examples by hand, only showing examples she had completed previously/in other sections of her course, and as a result, I found it hard to follow.
Dr. Mateo seems like a nice person, although her notes are disorganized and there was almost no information on the assignment requirements for the course project. There were also no practice papers and some of her notes were unclear. Overall, I don't think Dr. Mateo's is bad but in comparison with my other stat courses, she was definitely lacking.
Mateo seems like a good person and seems to care about her students. However the lectures were so disorganized you're better off learning about it yourself. I know she can't help it but her accent is very heavy too which doesn't help w the disorganization. Sometimes would skip a bunch of slides then go back like 3. Made no sense to me.
Her lectures aren't super helpful but definitely entertaining and the content is not overly difficult. Do the practice questions on UMlearn they're identical in nature to the tests. Zeny is not the best but honestly you shouldn't expect to pass stats without a little practice outside of lectures regardless of who your prof is.
was warned to switch profs but thought how bad can it be..... she seems like a caring person but man she's always going off about something and if you can get another prof DO IT... fell behind cause her lectures are a mess and jumps all over the place and doesn't really explain concepts. More learn it on your own time, I don't recommend.
Can't explain anything, hard to understand, you're better off skipping lectures and learning it yourself.
very hard to follow, already has examples written out and very minimally explains how she did it. take stats with a different prof if you can, cause you'll be learning it on your own or through YouTube..
Zenny is a very kind and caring person however she can be incredibly confusing explaining topics. She has a tendency to go over the information very quickly and explains it poorly at times. The good news is she is very helpful during her office hours if you need one-on-one support.
Her classes can be boring, always going over information about academic integrity/the syllabus in the first 15 minutes. Sometimes she can be confusing while explaining practice problems. She solves a lot of practice problems and you should do the labs and lab worksheets and assignments Quizzes and exams are similar to the practice worksheets.
