Horrible! He is the worst lecturer I've ever had. He seems to make the class up as he goes along. Struggles with the english language. Don't recommend at all.

Kill me now! Oh my god never take a class with this professor. He is new to the school and i cannot understand one single word he says! He sucks at speaking english. He shouldn't be teaching at this school, let alone teach a class that has about 150 people in it. This class is impossible to learn anything unless you are good with interpreting peopl
He is a little hard to understand, but he is kind of funny and an easy grader.
I have a really hard time understanding him... he has a very heavy accent. I sit up close and can't even understand him! We sit all class time and listen to him talk and his notes are very unclear. We take three tests and have a project, so you have to do good on the tests or you could be in trouble! I now no longer what to major in mass comm.
Accent is a little thick, but the course work is a breeze. Easy grader. Very nice man and willing to help if you just ask.
You can never understand him but he is a nice and funny guy. They tests were kinda hard and the class was boring. He is alright
No Comments
Easy class, easy grader. His accent is slightly difficult which make his lectures a little painful to sit through. Very nice guy and an easy A.
very knowledable
Very interesting and cool class. Knows his stuff. Not easy for a big, intro-class.
Very fun and interesting class
I learned much and enjoyed it.
Funny guy. Knows his stuff. Kinda goofy though
He is a very good teacher! If you attend class everyday there is no reason you shouldnt pass the class! He rewards greatly who have an awesome attendence. Plus if you go to class, he does really good reviews before the test, that will make them easy! BUT YOU MUST ATTEND CLASS!! OVerall, he was an excellent teacher!
Nice guy, but you can't understand him and he doesn't teach you****! You have to learn it all from the book or chapter reviews. He is boring and rambles on about the stupidest****. Don't take as a night class you will never be able to sit through it!!!
very good teacher but not fair. it is very eassy class to take with this proffesor if you are planing to take mass comm 220 i recomend you take it with him
I took this class my 4th out of 5 years. This class was a complete waste of my tuition. It may be difficult for people who like to use AIM lingo, but it was a cake walk. Although I do find it incredibly confusing how he can give a grammer quiz without being able to speak the language clearly and concisely. Don't waste yout time or money.
Interesting class. Not easy consider the sheer size and the time. Responsive to emails.
He takes random attendence and is hard to understand but super funny and an all around nice guy! His class is easy and interesting... night class wasent bad at all because he always let you go at LEAST a 1/2 hour early- sometimes we were only there for an hour!!
WORST TEACHER EVER!! you can't understand a word he says, he talks and talks about NOTHING at all, not a hard class but the work is lame and i didn't learn anything. i have no idea how he got hired...if you have to take him do NOT take the night class unless you like being bored out of your mind.
His class is a breeze if you actually read your textbook. Also attend the lectures since his tests will include questions from the lectures like examples he used and other small details. Though difficult to understand, he is very helpful if you email him. Warning: Its tough to stay awake in his class.
He is very funny and entertaining! I don't know how someone couldn't like this guy, he is the easiest grader and let us leave early every class.
He kind of looks like a messy penguin, has a rather thick accent, but he makes this class alot of fun if you go. And if you attend more, you can get through the accent pretty easy by early semester. Night class you'll fall asleep because it's dark, but a fun guy.
Very nice and funny. Hard to understand at first but you get use to it. I enjoyed the class
he lost my assignment and i got a zero :(
DO NOT take him! I would never take another class with him again EVEN if it meant I had to change majors! You can't understand ANY of his lectures... DONT TAKE HIM!!
He is not a great teacher but his class is easy. I failed because I thought I could get through the class without a book and not doing some of the hw... not very smart. im going to take him again in the same class next semester.
Funny Guy. Hard to understand sometimes, you won't know what he's talking about most of the time in his lectures. But you get attendance points for going and you usually get out early. Bring some homework to do or your computer. Don't try to take notes, just read the chapters before the test. He curves the tests. Little effort needed for his class
Really hard to understand! But you will need to read the book, and listen in class for the tests. The tests are of medium difficulty so you need to study. He takes attendance every now and then but takes it after half the class has already left. Just complete all assignments and papers and you will do just fine!
He knows his stuff. Not difficult to follow if you read the textbook and listen. It's a big, evening class after all. What else can you expect?
poor communicator
Easy-going and understanding.
One of the best classes I ever had. He is understanding and caring.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Will publically embarass you if he doesnt like you. I did not learn 1 thing in his class besides what a horrible teacher he is. Attendance is mandatory, yet you learn nothing while attending his class. He is Awful don't ever take him.
Best professor I have ever had. Come to class and finish assignments on time, you will be fine. He likes good writers.
He is interesting and energetic. Very helpful.
AMAZING TEACHER!! I have him for both 412 and 416 and he is awsome! He is humerous and one of the most intellegent people you will ever meet! He doesnt pick favorites, he just truely likes everyone..I would totally recommend taking any class you can from him,you wont regret it!
SOOO FUNNY!! Just look at that picture how could you not want to take his class. Seriously he makes the class interesting
He is extremely helpful and experienced person in this profession. His class is fun.
He's wonderful! He has an accent, but not difficult to understand. He's also very funny. He never makes you go the entire 3 hours...ever. Show up though, he will take attendance, then he'll do it again at the end to see who left. So if you're not rude, you'll be fine! His tests aren't hard, & he gives you most of the questions ahead of time.
This class is a joke! Don't take it with Peng. You won't learn anything. You sit in silence most of the time b/c he's thinking of what to say. Don't expect to get your group project grades back until the end of the semester(even if you went in the first part of the semester) His jokes are not that funny! Don't waste $700 on this class w/Peng!
Peng is a good prof. He makes the classes interesting with random slides and comments. You get extra credit if you preform infront of the class. The class is suppose to be a 3 hour lecture, but most days its done in about an hour and half...then everyone gets to leave. I highly recomend him!
Fairly easy class. He's really hard to understand with his accent, but just show up at every class... right down his slides and read the chapters and you'll do fine. Bring a computer or something to do to stay awake!!!
When I could understand what he was saying, it was clear that he was very intelligent and knew what he was talking about. However, the majority of the time I could not understand a single word that he said. I found his slides to be useless, and hard to understand as well. I basically taught myself during this course.
His accent is not that bad. If you actually listen, you're fine. I highly recommend this class. It's a good introduction to Mass Comm. I would take Peng again.
I have taken Peng for 220, 412, and 416. He is a great teacher and if I get the chance I will take him again! He keeps you entertained during class. It does take him a while to get grades back, but the benefits of taking him as a teacher completely outweigh the negatives. Compared to other Comm. Teachers, he is one of the best for sure!
OMG this is a horoble professor i have ever taken class with i will not recomend to any one dont waste your time and your money too it is worhtless
He is a pretty funning teacher, but he is usually really hard to understand. There was only three tests that made took up the bulk of your grade, so if you don't read every page of the chapter you probably screwed.
I took comm 220 last semester, and it's a great learning experience. I feel lucky to have this class.
Funny. Cool. End of story.
Night class never stayed the entire 2 hr 45 mins; lectures every class, some guest speakers, tests based off of book and lecture...2 projects that are easy and ridiculous extra credit opportunity aka play a youtube video; overall pretty easy if you go to class
It ticks me off that so many people think the world of Peng. If you honestly want to learn something...PLEASE don't take him. He butchers the subject. I feel like it was a waste of my money to learn such little. Lectures are common sense and I'm sick of hearing "newspaper is dead" every class period. It's so frustrating.
A nice enough guy and easy enough grader, but he seems a little incompetant half the time. I don't think he is sure of what he is talking about a lot. Fairly bad at keeping class informed.
He was my favorite teacher
Good class for a nap. You learn out of the book, not from him. His lectures are so boring. At first he is funny then it just gets old and you get sick of it. Read the book to do well on the tests.
This class was terrible. I could not pay attention for anything because he really talks about nothing. I didn't learn anything in this class and as it was media ethics it seemed like an important course. I honestly cannot tell you one thing I learned in the class. Very nice and funny guy but would suggest another prof!
I took this as a night class. As a night class, I cannot pay attention or stay awake in it. Long and boring lectures. I did okay on the tests. There is also a media project and it's pretty easy. I did not use my textbook very often. As far as the teacher goes, really cool guy. Shaky english, but overall understandable and easy class.
I had the night class. Long, but usually let out early. If you can focus, he really is interesting, has an excellent perspective on his field, and intelligent ideas on where it's going. No busywork, fairly difficult tests, easy project. If you have good attendance, he curves your grade. I used D2L and lecture notes for tests. Did ok.
just not enough of a helper. Lost points due to topic not being appropriate, but then saw same in paper...odd for a journalism class. Refused to change his stance. What!?
All his tests are GRAMMAR tests and nothing to do with journalism or the text book you have to buy! has no method in how he grades things and isnt clear about when things are due or how to do an assignment. its not that bad of a class and its no problem to get above a C in his class, but good luck trying to get an A!
Lord Peng is a fun teacher, can be difficult to understand if you have problem with acents. Tests are out of your notes and some from the book. I think the tests were harder then I expected as he will mix the words around and such. If you pay attention, you will do fine. Great visual aids.
Great teacher! Strong accent and trails off topic a lot, but not too difficult to follow if you pay attention. Attendance is important because half of the text questions are on things he says in class "In class peng say that____" no joke, those are half the test questions. won't learn much but it's an entertaining way to take a required class!
Tests are major. Other than that you just have one project that is pretty easy. This is a lecture class. Lord Peng has good jokes, but a lot of the time it is just lecturing based on a slide show. Read the book. Attendance will really help you. If you have good attendance he is willing to help you so you get an A.
Funny professor. Tries to keep you entertained. Tests are major and he gives you nothing to study from. Doesnt upload his powerpoints and even if you take notes they dont help much to study with.
taking this class online. I found him responsive and considerate.
Hes pretty cool, tries to keep students interested as best he can, sometimes funny. he's pretty easy with grading and the powerpoints are pretty much whats on the tests, its just alot to remember.
Funny professor, keeps class interesting, no homework
Very concise and articulate. I took him for online Comm220. His instructions were clear and he had a sense of humor which was pretty cool. He and his TA are very nice, understanding, and helpful. Great prof
I took this class online and he always helped me when I had questions. The tests are hard so make sure you take good notes, but he gives you enough time that if you work hard, you can look up a lot of the ones you don't know. The group & individual projects aren't too hard.
I would recomment Peng to anyone. I took his class online. Everything was very organized and clear cut. I learned a lot, and the work load was an unstressful amount. GREAT PROFESSOR!
This was the easiest 4-credit course I think I've ever taken. You NEVER use the textbook and are never tested on it - don't waste the $$ or time reading it if you're not self-motivated. An A is pretty easy to get. Peng offers alot of extra credit and is a pretty easy grader. Show up every day with a good attitude and he will "curve" your grade.
Keep class very funny. No homework at all. Don't miss one class then u will see how magical his "curve" is in the end of school year haha(attendance helps the most for this I believe). He's really friendly and helpful. Feel free to walk in his office. Textbook is useless. Tests are hard but taking note helps
funny professor, "the magic curve" still makes me a little ticked, no matter how hard you try you will not get an A plus on any test thats a guarantee, and a little disheartening
I took this class online so I can not speak to the professors personality. It was a LOT of work for an online class. Tests are very difficult but they are open book. I would recommend taking this class online because the material is very hard.
Lord peng is suuuper funny. keeps class very entertaining. he can be a bit hard to understand sometimes, but other wise its a fun class. Peng, if you read this, i better get some extra credit. ( i could use it)
Peng was nothing special as a teacher. Had a TA who basically did the grades and answered questions. There were 3/4 tests and one project and attendance that made up majority of class. Class was pretty much a dud. Used powerpoints but they were less than important.
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR 241. Literally any other professor will do. Didn't learn much, not enough feedback or communication throughout the year. Ridiculous attendance policy..he was always late, too! Very hard to pay attention...the only useful day was when the TA taught grammar.
Great professor. He would spend a lot of time editing your news story and provide long feedbacks if you spend serious time writing it. I learned a lot from this class.
So far, I am disappointed. Essentially, he doesn't teach. He drags out what could have taken 5 minutes into a very long 1 hour and 15 minutes. He starts every day asking us what is in the news and of the 4 chapters we have read so far, he has covered maybe 2 concepts. Class time is useless, but you HAVE to go or he'll fail you for missing. ;/
He's snarky and unhelpful. Peng also knows absolutely nothing about American journalism and gives a lot of pointless assignments.
He gives examples of what he would like done for assignments after you turned in the assignment. Allows rewrites, but will only raise your grade by less than a point. You never know what he wants from you. We were weeks behind schedule, but he emailed us on a Sunday saying we will be having a midterm the next morning on info we never learned about.
He is an interesting guy. I took a night class with him. The class consisted of 3 tests and a big survey project. No assignments or other homework. He has a strong accent so it is hard to understand him at times and his lectures seem to swerve of topic frequently, but he is a very funny guy.
Dr. Peng is a great person, but a terrible professor. His class was definitely a challenge, but he made it interesting.
Good professor, took a night class with him, and the 3 hours go by like that. He does tend to make his lectures a lot longer then they should be, but it's a fun class. I would recommend it.
It's very hard to understand him during class. Comm 220 is a lecture hall for 3 hours of sitting there listening to Peng talk.. but you can't understand him. He says the lectures will give you more but as long as you read the book you'll be alright!
I don't recommend you taking this class as a freshmen. It's very hard to understand him, and he doesn't help you on what you need to do on your test. He's a nice guy, but his 3 hour classes are terrible to sit through.
He is a nice guy but way to hard to understand. I have a 3 hour night class with him and its hell. But attendance is part of your grade so you have to go. His tests are hard and you have to read the book. Sometimes i feel like he doesn't even know what hes talking about. Just awful. If possible find another professor.
Hard to understand, forgets what he says to you or individually assigned to you. Boring lectures. Would not recommend to anyone.
He is a nice guy, very hard to understand & his classes were so long and boring. He talks so quietly. He also has a problem with stopping convos going on between other students. Counted one time & counted 6 diff convos goin on while he was teaching. He wants you to use the textbook & is useful for tests.I didn't read it much & got a B.
He was a nice guy, honestly his accent was really hard to get by and i'm great at getting through accents. His classes are LOOONG and suuuper boring so it's hard to pay attention that way. he barely gives assignments but it he does you'll get major points by doing them, he ended up curving the class cause most people did bad but overall he's good.
3 hours long lectures is really hell for students and also the boring way he teaches. He helps students and also is understanding. Only the problem is with his long boring lectures and also he uses his lectures in exams. He asks questions from his lectures which is really disgusting. I would not recommend any one to take his class.
Keep up with your workbook and you'll be fine. Actually read the text book or you won't pass the quizzes.
the class is based off of 3 tests, the CARE Workshop and the Media Project; lectures every class, says 3 hour classes but is typically 1.5-2 hours, ALWAYS gets out early; answers email quickly and curves ALOT
Took his 220 class online, hardest class I have ever taken here on campus. In order to get any decent grade whatsoever in his class you have to thoroughly read the textbook inside and out, and don't even bother asking him for help because he will just refer you to his TA
This course was way too difficult for one credit.
Great guy! I took COMM 220 at night which was a 3 hour lecture. The lectures for me were very dry and he went off topic alot but he knows what hes talking about and tries to make it fun. A LOT of reading for this class. Buy the book.
Very funny! Easy to understand and always let class out early. Definitely recommend for mass comm.
Dr. Peng is the best instructor I've had, caring , listen to students.
strongly recommend this professor.
This class was too much to be a 1 credit class. Things were often confusing and inconsistent. Tests were very long as well, if you can test out of this class do it.
This is easily the hardest and worst class I've taken so far. The average grade is a C or D and he claims it's because we don't study enough but I'm an A student and am getting a B-/C! Studying won't help you much. Doesn't let you see what you get wrong on tests. Hard to contact on emails. Doesn't even use good grammar in powerpoints. Frustrating.
I took his asynchronous class and his class was essentially him doing the least amount of work possible and still technically have a class. The book is all learning from a textbook and a prewritten test. The rest of the class in fending for yourself trying to figure out how things work. Not a good teacher and not a well structured class.
Worst prof I have had. He goes off tests, that affect your grade so much, if you have test anxiety, you will absolutely fail. He does not teach. You get assigned reading, sometimes three chapters in one week, and then take a textbook producers quiz. He does nothing. Be prepared to teach self. Do not take. I have never received such a low grade.
I believe the MCOM200 class I took was the equivalent of COMM220. I took the online version. He required the textbook but he posts chapter summaries on D2L, and 99% of his questions you can find on Quizlet. Grade was based on weekly quizzes, weekly reflections, and 3 tests. He put minimal effort into this class. Quizlet is your best friend here.
All the questions on the quizzes and exams are recycled. To get a good grade in this class, all you have to do is memorize the questions and answers to the weekly exercises. Even a handful of the exercise questions actually have the incorrect answer marked as correct.
I didn't learn anything in this class. Any class you take with this man the tests are recycled. No matter what level the class was. It's all the same. And he kind of left us in the dust to fend for ourselves with the biggest project of the semester. Not a fan.
One of the laziest professors I've ever seen. He doesn't teach. The class is determined by the textbook and textbook quizzes alone you're not graded on anything else. There's a weekly journal you have to do to write about what you learned that week but that's not turned in until the end of the semester so you get no feedback. Terrible professor.
