Professor Gu's overall teaching ability is very subpar. He was often vary unclear when explaining difficult topics. He would often breeze over important topics and spend a lot of the lecture back tracking and going on tangents. Additionally, his exams are very challenging and I would consider them to be unfair with the material covered in lecture.

Zeshen Gu is genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. His average final exam grade was an F. It was so bad he refused to give students their scores and was forced to curve the final class grade by two letter points. He makes his tests so so much harder than any practice material for anything he gives. I HIGHLY recommend avoiding him

I dont know why Zeshen Gu made his tests so difficult but they are the most difficukt tests I have ever took. He was extremely bad at teaching, and I only walked away more confused. Professor Gu had extremely hard exams. I remember the other teacher (Liling Ko) (who you should probably take instead if u r readin this) I heard had easier tests, his has mostly curveballs, and the main issue I have against this was that the material he taught didnt nearly match the difficulty of his tests! The average student failed his final!

Zeshen Gu is without a doubt the most difficult professor in the entire math department. His exams were extremely difficult, and he did not do a very good job teaching. His examples in lecture were very vague, and he would not elaborate on them if asked to. He'd give material in exams that was not even mentioned during his class. It was a nightmare

Professor Gu, while put in effort, was simply unable to adequately teach the content properly. He would often breeze through topics, and given that the notes he taught off of were Liling Ko's, its clear he did not know how to teach the material well. Just take Liling Ko instead, Zeshen just teaches off of her materials any way, his tests just SUCK!

I would literally pay double tuition to be guaranteed to never have Zeshen as a professor again.

The standard of teaching at Zeshen Gu is deficient, and students are not recommended to enroll in Zeshen Gu classes. I took Gu's section, and then a week later, I switched to Sean Sanford's Math 2153 and got an A- in Sean's Section. Be sure to give Sean Sanford a 5-point rate while giving Zeshen Gu a 1-point rate!

While professor Gu did they indeed have a sense of humor from my experience, that is the one of the only two positive things from this class. The other being that homework assignments were relatively simple. However, the tests were very difficult, and he lectured at a lightning quick pace. Most people had earned a failing grade on the final exam.

Zeshen Gu was very distant and did not seem to care much about the preformance of his students. He was obviously very interested in math and the challenges that came with it and would try to flaunt his understanding and intelligence over the students rather than actually teaching.

Zeshen Gu is a nice guy, but not a great professor. Let's just say after the first lecture of my section of the semester, 43 people dropped out of the class. He doesn't teach well and goes too fast. He also doesn't tell you what content is being asked before a quiz/test. I wouldn't recommend him at all.

Miserable class. This quiz was simply atrocious and no one knew or could learn what they had to know (I know people in his section). I'm so glad I switched sections (more about that in a previous review). Avoid this guy at all costs.

I had him in AU23 and he was a pretty terrible lecturer. He moved so fast through lectures and was hard to understand, so I always had to go back and rewrite notes later. He lectured us like we all had mathmetician brains that worked like his. Tests are VERY hard, so take as many practice tests/questions beforehand as possible. Test heavy course!

Incomprehensible voice and incoherent lecturing back when I took the class. The real issue is, his tests were EXTREMELY EXTREMELY HARD. People got D's on quizzes simple units such as cross products and vectors, and the final had an average grade being an F. Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS GUY!!! Take literally anyone else and it will be better.

While he is obviously very smart, he lectures incredibly fast and he is extremely difficult to follow, and he struggles to answer many students' questions in a clear or concise matter. You look away for 2 seconds and you have missed 10 pages of his lecture.

Dr Gu was clearly very smart, but this was the issue. He didn't explain things as if he was teaching them to students he explained them as if we were all on his level. He also spent a very long time on each topic but didnt really go over them in a way we could learn them. Grades took forever to come out. Midterm averages were slightly above 50.

Going to this professor's lectures is like having to watch a toddler waddle around and spew incoherent garbage for 55 minutes. On top of that, the exams and quizzes were many times harder than was necessary, and the professor posts no notes on the Carmen webpage. If at all possible, either change lecturers or drop this class. You will hate it here.

His lectures have no structure. Zeshen only reads off of slides (which aren't even his own). On the 1st day, I witnessed 20 people leave within the first 10 minutes. My favorite announcement from Zeshen was when he pushed back an assignment bc "he felt lazy" and didn't want to grade it "that weekend" (this was less than two days before it was due).

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His handwriting is illegible, he is unable to concisely and effectively communicate answers. This professor wrote our final, took it himself, scored below an 80% on it, and took 50 minutes to complete the test (students get an hour). Completely unrealistic expectations for all of his students. Do not take Dr. Gu!!!

Dr. Gu was clearly very smart and very passionate. He knew math very well, but just did not teach it very effectively. His lectures were always quite fast-paced, which made content quite difficult to understand. I don't think he really knew how to best communicate with students, which caused a lot of confusion on my end.

Horrible lecturer and even worse hand writing and explanations. Went through everything too quick. YouTube explained everything better once I stopped going to lectures. I'd drop the class and take it at cscc if you can. Grades are mostly determined by exams.

For your own mental health, drop this class. For the brave souls: don't bother attending lectures other than for the exams. Grind study the material on the practice exams and you'll get by. The GTA, Natalia, is the only reason this class is survivable. She is an easy grader, so just put down ANY work for problems and you'll get pity points.

He is pretty funny in class as he randomly laughs out of nowhere, however, he is not so good at teaching though he is a teacher. He has more room for improvement than the cardinality of the real number set. Linear algebra is supposed to be an easy class, but not!!! No such thing as bad student, only a bad teacher.

AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. DROP OUT IF YOU HAVE HIM, EVEN IF IT TAKES AN EXTRA SEMESTER TO GRADUATE (just do the EM exam instead if no section works). Taking Gu is signing up for the worst semester of your life.

Extremely difficult midterms and little feedback. Tests were based more on fast computations than on understanding the material. If you can integrate by parts fast, you will succeed. If not, good luck. Tests were based on homework, just way too long to finish. I feel my grade didn't match my understanding. Avoid.

I made the mistake of not dropping him. He cannot teach, and doesn't really give partial credit on exams, unless you spam regrade requests. He gives out a curve which helps.

Don't take this professor unless you're incredibly confident in your ability to self study, or you consider yourself a math prodigy. He makes his test's leagues harder than other teachers, and is merciless with his grading. He routinely fails students without curving the grades (The average on his first midterm was 50%, one final 30% of the grade)

Very frustrating exams, for some reason he would rather test you on how fast you can do Gaussian elimination than how well you understand the material.
