Prof Yang is an awesome professor. I didnt like chem before i took this class but this semester changed it. He's very helpful and very funny. U always have to go to class and ESPECIALLY go for the reviews.Helps u a lot during the tests.Take the class..its an Easy A... :Nash :-)
he is really nice and he cares about his students!!! i recommend him to everyone. at the end of the semester he bought us pizza and we had a lil party he is awesome! :)
He is very nice Prof, you have to attend labs though, he takes off points if you leave early from labs, over all very easy class, and give alot of extra points.
YANG!he is THE BEST teacher ive had so far in college. He really keeps u on ur toes bc he likes to call on every1 in the class randomly. He asks u alot of questions so b prepared.I hated chem with a passion but i had to take the class.but after taking it, i actually kinda like chem!TAKE HIM! HE's GRADE A material! He's the YODA of Chemistry! HI YANG!
best professor ever! he is funny and helpful and wants students to understand. he reviews daily and insists on helping students not only memorize but actually understand material. he is funny and makes class fun and is a great guy!
Great professor. He makes class really fun and interesting; although class material is hard. Alwayz there to help out students. Highly recommend him.
Dr. Yang was very fare to all students. He interacted with all of us, and made every attempt to make sure everyone understood the material, even though the class was very fast paced (6 Weeks). I would strongly recommend his class, but be ready to work.
Dr. Yang is great. He made an uninteresting subject interesting. Very helpful and he cares that you understand the material. Make an effort to study, review and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Highly recommended!!
This is an amazing professor! He is so funny and patient. I have spent so much time in his office and he is always patient. You can tell it's important to him that you are successful. A very funny man, I plan to take 1060 with him. He makes class fun even though it is a very difficult subject. Dr. Yang ROCKS!!
I loved Dr. Yang, its hard to understand him sometimes but he is so funny. The class is hard but if you do the homework and understand what your doing its very very easy! I wish i could take him again!
Very difficult subject matter. Great Professor. Comes highly recommended. Knows his stuff! Will explain and do examples. Reviews for exams. You can do it with his help. Attend class his lectures make a hard subject understandable. An A is achievable.
Macomb is very lucky to have instructor like Dr. Yang His Background is unbelieveable Attendance is very important practice the Ace test for quiz DO NOT Memorize UNDERSTAND and you will receive a 10 Make sure you prepare & read the book before class and do HW and Understand it if you don't understand HW Always ask Dr. Yang WHY WHY WHY!
Dr Yang is awesome! He is so helpful. He really takes it personally when lazy people do poorly, even though it is heir fault and not his. Just a great person in general and he loves what he does. It's not easy, but he is willing to help get you through it. DON'T be lazy, ask q's. He prepares u well.
Dr Yang is definitely one of the best teachers i have ever had =) he is devoted to making students actually understand the material, and is really good about using analogies and other techniques to make us understand. i took him for 1060 and that was a lot of work, but do-able.i now have him for orgo, which is definitely alot harder, but manageable
Dr Yang is AWESOME!his quizzes for 1060 are pretty easy, make sure to do the ace practices!all of his tests for both orgo&1060 are based somewhat on critical thinking,so they are challenging.he doesn't want memorization, he wants you to understand what's happening, especially w/ orgo. gives opps for extra credit in both classes,20 points!AWESOMEPROF
he's a horrible prof.. drop his class NOW!!!!
Dr Yang is the best. Super funny and very helpful. Don't be scared of Orgo. Read the book, do all practice problems, you will be okay. You will laugh a lot!
Dr. Yang is a hard teacher but will help you if you ask. use the learning center tutors. I would recommend him for sure. Ask questions, he will help you understand.
Great teacher and great effort to teach. However, he can often be hard to understand, but is more than willing to help you understand him. His tests are a mix of his notes and powerpoints and a few questions from the book. If you have him, plan on working hard from start to finish. ESPECIALLY if you have organic chem.
Chem is a hard class no matter who you have. Dr. Yang makes it as easy and fun as he can. HORRIBLE accent but super funny guy! he makes you answer a lot of questions in front of the class but its only so he can help you learn the material!!! STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIM FOR CHEM!!! do your hw and ace practice tests, review and you'll do just fine!
Dr. Yang is by far one of the greatest professors I have ever had. He is dedicated to teaching, and wants his students to understand the material. I was dreading taking this class, but Dr. Yang made a difficult subject understandable. I learned alot in his class, and I can't reccomend him enough!!!
Constantly ends class early, even though our class average for exam one was 60% and 35% on our last quiz. Answers a question with a question and turns students away at office hours.
Extremely detailed. Will mark off points for the missing a + or - sign on chemical equations, even if everything else is correct. Give us break, youre not a medical school teacher. Very hard!! tests and quizzes are half multiple choice and half short answer type. I would study 6 hrs for a quiz and still end up with %50. Horrible Horrible Horrible!
HATE HATE HATE THIS PROFESSOR!!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM! not an approachable person what so ever, makes you feel stupid when you ask questions, and rude. Wish I would have listened to other people's ratings, they were so right.
Personally i didnt think he was a good teacher at all. he tried to be funny. His grading was very unfair, marked down points on lab report calculations. how is that possible when everyones gonna have different weights and measurments. he wasnt helpful what so ever. Personally i would not recommend him to anyone.
"There is no such thing as a perfect lab, so don't expect 100% on anything you hand in." Z. Yang
Told us on the first day of class mechanisms weren't important. they were a quarter of our grade. Told us test five was same difficulty level as the rest. It averaged 20 percent lower. If you like working hard for an inferior grade then this is the class for you!
Not only did you ruin my GPA, but wasted my time and my money.
I loved prof. Yang. He helped, but you had to be willing to ask! He would give answers to lab ?'s when we asked him! Tests were hard, but I didnt study much and got c's on most of them. I would tell anyone to take him! He is so funny!
Prof Yang was a really good teacher. He asks TONS of questions in class which, at first, I thought was kind of annoying... but they ended up helping a lot. Even though he is a bit hard to understand sometimes with his accent, he is very good at explaining and will explain something as many times as we need in order to understand it. Loved him!
When I first heard him speak I thought, "OH NO!" Now I know that he is one of the nicest and most passionate teachers I've ever had. He asks a lot of questions to the class because HE REALLY CARES that everyone understands the concepts! At first I was frustrated, but I studied hard and earned an A in the class. Stay organized and don't fall behind!
Had orgo 1 with Yang and it was excellent. He has a bit of a language barrier but knows the subject really well. I got a 3.8 in the class. Study the notes and practice problems frequently.
All of his tests were cumulative and made it almost impossible to study. He expects each student to spend a minimum of three hours a day studying for his class. His exams were extremely unbalanced. Some key concepts would be worth almost nothing on the exam while others would be 15-20%. He's funny and a good guy though.
WAITED UNTIL I TRIED ANOTHER TEACHER TO PUT THIS RATING, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT TAKE THIS GUY, HES NICE, BUT TERRIBLE AS A TEACHER, CANT UNDERSTAND HIM, I DROPPED, TOOK DR. TRAM AT SOUTH AND GOT AN A-, IF YOU TAKE YANG, YOU BETTER ALREADY HAVE QUITE AN UNDERSTANDING OF ORGO ALREADY BECAUSE ITS AN EXTREMELY HARD CLASS AS IS
He took 20% points off a report(exam weight) because a single page was out of sequence. Another 10% points because a diagram wasn't detailed enough. Not helpful on how many points taken off for what offense,learn/fail the hard way. No latework allwd, returns work 1-2 weeks late. Unless you or the tutor has the oldlabs as guidance, A's = pipe dreams
Awesome professor!! Very helpful , kind and funny!!
Best teacher I've had in a long time. He's just one of those guys that has a strong ability to teach. He is Chinese, but I had not a single issue to understand him. I come from Germany though, so I may be a bit used to different dialects. Easy A if you do the work. So many people just did not seem to get the material though. Couldn't figure out why
He was a really good professor. Even though he was Chinese I was still able to understand him well. He's very helpful & wants his students to succeed in his class. However, You still need to study quite often to get a good grade in this class. If you show up everyday, pay attention, ask questions, & study then you'll do well.
He's the best professor I'd ever met since high school! Just don't be hesitate to ask him question, he's really helpful. Also he didn't really like using powerpoint. He always talked about the concepts in his own way before showing us the PPT and asked students questions to make sure they understand. I don't like classes just copying PPT.
He is hard to understand. I had no previous knowledge of chemistry, and had much to learn. However, I feel that I could never catch up with the material being learned and I had a hard time understanding his methods of teaching. I was always stressed leaving his class. I am also an A-B. Research another teacher before picking this one. student.
Dr. Yang is a nice guy and a good teacher. He knows orgo well. My only knock on him is that he can be hard to understand sometimes. You really need to read the material before his lectures. And as with any other orgo class, you have to practice, practice, practice
Maybe he is different in his lecture class than in the lab class, but I found this class extremely discouraging. He did not spend any time explaining labs, going over answers or explaining what he wants. His grading is EXTREMELY subjective. If you care at all about your GPA or learning the material, take the class with Dr. T at south campus.
Ohhh, Dr. Yang! Considering that I had his class as a Dual Enrollment, I could've done better. He's willing to answer question & he explains so well! Sometimes I wish he'd give partial credit on quizzes & tests, but whatever, I survived. Remember guys, NEVER memorize, UNDERSTAND! PRACTICE and READ THE BOOK! So going to take his class next yr!
AVOID. Class ends 1/2 hour early every class. Arrogant and rude, laughs at students' responses to his questions. Unhelpful in the lab. Told me to re-read a chapter when struggling. Horrible at explaining equations and math. Doesn't notify students when home work is due on OWL. I'd also have to ask around to find out when our tests and exams were.
If you want to learn and pass chemistry, I highly recommend that you DON'T take this professor. He doesn't explain the material clearly and is extremely unhelpful in the lab. He is very rude to his students. I honestly didn't learn anything and now I have to retake this class... Hopefully my next professor will be able to teach the material better.
I had little experience with chemistry before this class and after taking this INTRO class, I still don't understand much. Dr. Yang expects his students to know all of the material, even if this is their first chem class. How he still has a job is beyond me. He is not helpful whatsoever and is very rude. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS HE TEACHES!
Don't listen to anyone who says Dr. Yang is not helpful. You need to study and not MEMORIZE,but understand concepts. He will gladly help you with anything. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about chemistry. He has a great sense of humor and makes class enjoyable. If you put in the time to study and get to know him, you will do very well.
You need the textbook and to attend class! I don't know his rating is so low. You will have to put time into this class. Do not memorize everything builds off the last unit. Labs are easy. OWL should help you to understand. He will help you, and people who did not do well must have been lazy! Pay attention and it is an easy "A".
honestly hated this teacher
I thought the teacher was great. As long as you REALLY pay attention. He likes to randomly call on you in lecture if he thinks your not paying attention. Follow the rules and you'll be fine. He also gives lots of extra credit quizzes in class to really help out! Overall loved this teacher!
I had Dr. Yang for 1050 and have since taken 11801190 with a different teacher. People saying bad things about him must be lazy or expecting to breeze by. Yes, you have to pay attention and study. I LOVE him. He was always willing to help me whenever I asked. He is also hilarious. I can't wait to take him again this semester for orgo.
I can't emphasize how much I appreciated Prof. Yang. Yeah he's Chinese and his accent is frustrating to deal with sometimes but his lectures and teaching methods are ah-maze-zing! I highly recommend you to take his class if you're dedicated to actually learning. It's a shame he doesn't teach 1170. Literally my 2nd review on him, extremely helpful.
Homework takes forever and the website is horrible. Lectures are miserable & hard to understand because of his accent. When you ask for help, he just repeats what he said, and doesn't know a different way to explain it, and makes you feel stupid for even asking. He's the hardest grader, ever. I usually get straight A's, & i'll be happy with a C.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had DONT take his class!!! He's unfair with grading. I got 010 on a Q on a test because i answered 23 not 23. my lab prtnr did same and only got -1 point! What he is grading you on is unclear. When you ask Qs he makes you feel dumb and yells at you for not studying! HW is time consuming and is NO help on tests.
I'm a straight A student on my way to the dean's list until i took his class! i study 20+ hours a week and still have no idea what he is teaching. idk how he grades things but for labs i will have the same exact answers as my partner and still get a lower grade! worst of all he makes you feel like an idiot for asking questions! DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Worst class I have ever taken. He isn't clear on anything and his grading is so unfair. Even when you think you know the material (I spend endless hours studying) his tests are horrible, and he refuses to curve or do anything to help you out, even if the entire class fails. Plus he makes you feel like an idiot if you don't get it.
He is a good professor. It is a little hard to understand him but you get used to it. If you do the homework and study you should have no problem getting a good grade. He does go fast but he explains his notes quite well.
I asked a DIFFERENT professor for help in his class because asking for Dr. Yang's help is putting you in the chemical lion's den. Laughs at you when you answer a question wrong in class. Makes you feel dumb. Not recommended and wouldn't take him again. Too much homework to keep up and much of it was not able to be done because OWL is horrifying.
I loved Dr. Yang. I think he is a wonderful professor. He is very clear in what he teaches and is extremely concerned with his students and wants to make sure each student individually is understanding what goes on in class. You'll learn a lot with him and he's very funny! Take 1050 with Yang! As long as you study and pay attention you'll do great.
Took CHEM 1050 in the winter with prof. Yang. Excellent teacher, a little hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. His lectures are extremely helpful and he puts all his powerpoints on angel, whatever you don't understand can easily be found in the book and that is the most important thing. pay attention + study success
Laughs at you when you answer a question wrong in class. Makes you feel dumb. not recommended and wouldn't take him again. He did not spend anytime explaining labs, going over answers or explaining what he wants. His grading is extremely subjective. He's a horrible prof.... Drop his class now! Wants you to attend class, but it's useless.
Do not take his class! The worst so far !
Don't take the class with him. Worst class! If you want to feel stupid and laughed at then sure take it. You won't have time to study with all the material he gives.
I don't know how he grades things but for labs i will have the same exact answers as my partner and still get a lower grade! worst of all he makes you feel like an idiot for asking questions! DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
One of my fav professors! I read all these reviews before the classes began and I was so terrified. But he's actually a really funny dude! He makes sure each and every person understands the material, and basically makes chem enjoyable tbh. I'd definitely recommend Dr. Yang for CHEM-1050!
Honestly a great professor, most of these bad reviews are probably people who expect an easy A. He makes sure you understand the material before moving on. Always willing to help, always reviews before tests. Quick with posting grades. Kind of a rough grader but that's how chem is. Really liked him, I would take him again
Dr. Yang is very upfront with his grading criteria and he explains the material SO CLEARLY! I hated Chem before his class because I couldn't understand a lick of it. I wouldn't expect an easy A from this class, but you can definitely expect to pass because of the level of comprehension that you get from the class. Dr. Yang is a great teacher!!!
After reading some of the previous reviews I was extremely hesitant to take Dr. Yang as my professor, but ended up loving him. He taught everything SO clearly and was hilarious while doing it. If you pay attention in class AND READ THE BOOK** you will do great in his class. I highly recommend him to everyone looking to take chem 1050
Yang is absolutely phenomenal. As someone who already obtained a bachelors, I have had some TERRIBLE professors and always hated chemistry-Never understood it, never cared about it. Yang wants you to succeed and he will make sure you understand a topic before moving on. He's a little intimidating at first, but he's HILARIOUS. Loved him!!!!
Dr. Yang puts students on the spot and makes fun them for wrong answers. He makes you feel dumb and puts you down. I will not recommend him to anyone.
Great professor; explains subject matter clearly and will not move on until understood. Throws humor in to change up the monotony. He will be straight with you.
For those hoping for an easy A, DO NOT take his class. Lectures are difficult to understand, does put students on the spot every class period. Exams are lengthier and hard. Mostly all multiple choice, very few short answers. A lot of online homework, very time consuming. Bad experience. Those who don't get chem as well, good luck. Gotta study!
He is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He puts students on the spot to make them look stupid. When students would ask questions he told them to ask another student who understands the material. He does very boring lectures and hardly explains how to do the practice problems. Do not take this professor!
STRESS. Dr Yang is the hardest teacher I've ever had, but at the end of the course I felt confident that I knew the material. You HAVE to follow along with lectures & if you don't study, you won't pass. Open ended test questions are never as easy as the examples in class & he isn't a fan of partial credit. Stay ahead, try hard & study before class.
genuinely thought he was a good guy. very nice, but not usually very understanding if something happens outside of your control. lets you take short naps in class if youre tired. if you study, youll passs.
Prepare yourself to be asked about your last chemistry class in the first day. Then you will be forced to do a quiz on everything you learned in that class the second time you meet him. Hard to understand and doesn't explain anything.
His lectures are great and he has sayings that help you remember the key overarching concepts of chemistry and delivers lecture with energy.
He is hard to understand at times and explains what he feels like explaining. A lot of the math you are going to have to figure out yourself. He gives quizzes every time you finish a chapter, and he is a really hard grader. He will ask students that are not paying attention questions. He does not answer questions; makes you figure it.
Calls you out in class if he KNOWS you dont know the material. He wasn't really good at explaining things either, I wouldn't recommend taking him.
Take him and Ill guarantee you will regret it.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. Grades are based off of exam and quiz scores. Exams and quizzes are unfair. Many of the class averages on the exams and quizzes are 50 percent or below. I don't understand how this class can be this hard if everyone is not passing the tests. Exams are mostly written and harder than book problems.
He's a bit intimidating & will call on you in class to anwser questions especially if he thinks you aren't paying attention. He's very thorough with his lectures and makes sure you understand everything and will help you work through things if you're confused. Grades based off of quizzes, exams, and labs. Some extra credit.
DONT TAKE HIM for organic chem. He does not explain well and going to his class is useless. I go home everyday and read every single line in the book and I still dont do good on his exams. He doesnt give any partial credit and will mark the whole question wrong if you have a simple mistake.
Organic Chemistry is not an easy class; however, He explains the material over and over until everyone is OK. Quizzes and Homework every week, 4 Exams and the final is optional. He hates cellphones!!!
Dr. Yang is the best professor that i've ever had. it is true that he makes you work for your grade but he explains things in a way that let me understand the material instead of just memorizing facts. i feel like he is passionate about his profession and occasionally his 'chemistry dad jokes' are very amusing.
He's just a nightmare, is not willing to give any partial credit, only 3-4 people are getting A' or B's, and the rest of the class is doing terrible. His teaching is not bad but his quizzes are insane, I do not recommend.
Professor Yang is an amazing instructor. He knows the content and he's clearly passionate about it. Although his English is difficult to understand at times, he still gives the material in a clear manner. This is not an easy class by any means, especially if you don't have a decent knowledge of chemistry prior to taking his class.
Prof Yang doesn't love a thing in life more than deducting points. You either study hard to get the most of class materials or suffer from deducting points for any stupid mistakes you make. He doesn't give any partial credit. in fact, He takes off all the points of the question even if it's 90% correct. No extra credits are offered. GOOD LUCK!!
Lots of difficult homework.
he is the hardest professor that I have ever had, his language is too bad you won't even understand what he is saying in the class and suddenly he will ask you question and he won't you to repeat everything he is saying . this class is so hard and we need a professor knows how to explain the material . and he will make u buy the book and solution
the professor is too bad
Orgo is a very hard subject yet all he does is read off of the PowerPoint. This class needs a professor that does examples in class to actually teach the students. Sadly you are on your own having to teach yourself the material. Also His quizzes are insane.
No partial credit what so ever. Does nothing but read PowerPoint. Quizzes and exams are challenging. YOU HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF THE MATERIAL.
Dr. Yang is a wonderful professor, & despite his efforts to be scary on the 1st day of class he's extremely kind and funny. It is true that if you a student who would prefer to text/not pay attention that you will not fare well, he will not tolerate it. I respected that. I learned so much in this class and did not find his accent hard to understand
Dr. Yang is a wonderful professor. He really does care about his students even though he seems cold on the outside. He is always willing to help students in lab and answer any questions during lecture. He is one to call on students to answer questions at random, but it is not too bad. Overall, I highly recommend him!
Good guy. Makes you work for a good grade. Should be relatively good class if you're willing to study/put it the work. Really cares and does his best to make sure you understand the content. Really understands what he's teaching. Pretty funny. Doesn't like phones in class. Just be respectful and a decent person and you'll survive just fine.
Dr. Yang is hands down one of the best professors I took at macomb. He is so nice and thoughtful about his students. He genuinely cares for everyones success. I dont understand where all the bad reviews are coming from. But from my experience hes great at explaining and clear to the point about his expectations. I totally recommend taking him!
he is a very good professor, cares a lot for his students, he is amazing and makes you understand the subject. it is not an easy A you have to work hard to receive the grade you want.
I had Dr. Yang as my professor for Organic Chem 2. He is one of my favorite professors along with Dolan and Tramontozzi, two other professors/faculty members of the science department @ Macomb. He is tough but fair. There is always extra credit to grab. His lectures are a blast and hilarious. He even taught us some Chinese words used in O. Chem!
He is a very good professor. He acts very strict and scary on the first day but thats to scare off anyone who isnt ready to work. Very strict with phones but I learned so much more because of that. Overall I would love to take another class with him he is a very genuine man.
Dr. Yang is an amazing professor. took him for summer chemistry and he is a sweet guy. You can tell he really cares about his students. He hates phones and wants them all off but honestly made me learn more and not be distracted!! Love him!
Dr. Yang is an amazing professor. took him for summer chemistry and he is a sweet guy. You can tell he really cares about his students. He hates phones and wants them all off but honestly made me learn more and not be distracted!! Love him
Dr. Yang is the best. I took him in the summer and it was the best decision. He really cares for his students and wants you to do well. The class isn't an easy A but its doable. His lectures are great and so are his powerpoints. He is very sweet, nice and approachable. He doesn't like phones, you are gonna survive. You learn a lot from his class.
Study hard and its an easy A.
Dr. Yang is a very funny and passionate professor. Don't be absent for labs because you won't be able to make them up, but he's a good professor overall. He really wants to make sure you know your mistakes.
You want the truth? This professor is college, the start to all of college. This class WILL prepare you for EVERY COLLEGE COURSE EVER. This class I'd recommend to ABSOLUTELY TAKE FIRST. The professor answers all questions clearly, gives out assignments that the more you complete the better off you are. Do the work, study when you need to, all done.
A nice professor that will respect you if you respect him. He provides useful practice quizzes and study guides. Pay attention to his instructions during lab and you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS WITH HIM !! You will fail. He is the worst professor ever. He is very tough grader and his exams are very hard. Lot of discussion and additional practice plus quiz due every week.
I like him as a person. As a professor I REALLY don’t recommend him for Organic Chem. He’s ruthless with grading and will put hard questions that are above what you prepared for on the exams/tests. No partial credit. If one thing is wrong, it’s all wrong. Almost everyone dropped and everyone is struggling. Take another teacher
I really like this professor. Very nice person and was very helpful. Also very understanding. I won't lie, the class is extremely difficult and he is a tough grader. I learned so much in this class though and I feel like I'm set up for all future courses in Organic Chem. I recommend him, but make sure you have the time to put in to this course.
The worst professor, by all means, doesn't know how to explain the material and uses other professors' videos for his lecture. tough grader, you need to study hard or you're gonna end up not getting a good grade on it. avoid this teacher.
Take Chem 1050 with him at your own risk. Exams are worth 60% of your grade. Scoring is unreasonable. Tough grader. Uses other professors' videos for lectures. He always encourages students to drop his class if they don't understand and brags about being a difficult professor. Just don't do it. I would type more, but I'm out of characters. RUN.
the worst instructor I've ever had. He continuously brag about how hard he is. He constantly pushes us into dropping his class and always be yelling. we are college students not elementry students. if you dont do good in the class he always puts the blame on you. his exams are hard like why? He makes chem which is already challenging, much more so
In his class, achieving anything above 70 is extremely hard. He constantly brag about how difficult his class is and says that we should drop it if we can't understand him. Are you going to give us our money back, sir? He has to deduct points from your grade no matter what but he won't tell you what you did incorrectly. please stay away!!!
I have nothing nice to say about this professor. His tests are extremely hard, he gives you "pre-lab" and "post lab" quizzes along with discussions, normal quizzes, and OWL homework every week. He calls you out in class to make sure you're paying attention. I've never struggled so much in a class before. Absolutely horrible. 0/10 do not recommend.
this professor is very hard to understand. Speaks changlish. Gets very mad at you when you are confused. Brags about how hard his class is although he is no help. I do not reccomend taking this class with him if it is required because chances are you will fail if chemistry does not come easy.
I dropped this class because I was sick of being insulted in front of my classmates every time I had a question or answered his questions wrong during the lectures. Ironically he gets upset anytime he asks students if they know the answer to X question and no one responds. His written exam questions are all or no credit, no half points.
His teaching style is very hard to follow he tends to skip slides alot even if the slidesare are useful. He also blames students for receving bad grades even if the whole class fails. He does not curve even in this case. He also has these quizzes which you are not allowed to take home. His homework does not teach you either.
Grades down everything, even if he can by .1 he will. Even if you are correct with your answers, if it is not his way it is wrong - from his own mouth. Do yourself a favor and take it with anyone else.
I would advise taking this class with anyone else. He is a very strict grader, which makes it extremely hard to get over a C on any exam. Always discouraging the class by saying to drop out. Blames the class for a very low grade average and refuses to curve! Always rushing through the PowerPoints and makes us learn most of it at our own.
Very condescending and rude when you are trying to understand the topic. I suggest taking with anyone else especially if you have anxiety because he will call on you for answers and make fun of you if you get it wrong. Also takes percentage of grades off in any way he can, even homework if it isn't exactly his vision.
very very rude. If you can take any teacher besides him do it. dropped the class after one class very condescending and very judge mental if you don't know an answer or how to do something. will call students out infant of class and try to embarrass them as well
Most of the online videos are lacking in quality, as well as a lot of his lectures. The class has an awfully uncomfortable vibe to it, consisting of an awkward silence whenever nobody wants to volunteer followed by him calling on someone that clearly was not ready for it. I've never felt such a feeling of hopelessness and dread before in a course.
I would absolutely not recommend him to anyone. He is a nice guy but makes his tests way harder than they need to be and nothing like the lecture. I understand that this is college but he is truly awful. I am on track to pass but definitely be prepared to put so much time into this class because he lectures are no help.
I would advise taking this class with anyone else. He is a very strict grader, which makes it extremely hard to get over a C on any exam. He rushes the slides on the powerpoints, and often made us learn the some of it on our own. He is also not very clear when answering questions, often just repeating something he already said.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. He is a very strict grader, which makes it extremely hard to get over a C on any exam. Took points off if you forgot your safety goggles. Always discouraging the class by saying to drop out. Blames the class for a very low grade average and refuses to curve! NO EXTRA CREDIT AT ALL. Awful experience.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR He takes off any sliver of a point that he can, calls on random people, gets angry when they don't know the answer, and refuses to give any advice on how to improve. He was not willing to curve grades even if the class average was well below the failing line. I recommend anyone taking this class to pick a different teacher
Professor Yang is a very nice guy, but you definitely need lots of study time and I suggest a tutor. He is very good at explaining things but you do teach yourself most of the assignments. Tests are also not really similar to what we learned in my opinion. I do suggest taking someone else but if you do have him be prepared for the work load.
Hybrid class. Assignments/ questions on the quizzes are not similar to what you learn on Cengage or read in the book. Test on canvas are timed(not enough time). Be prepared to be put on the spot to answer the professor questions .He dislikes cellphones, you will lose points if he see or hear your phone. Workload heavy. I regret taking this course.
I found Dr. Yang to be very fair and interesting. Very clear on what you are expected to know. This is a difficult class with a heavy emphasis on understanding the material and spending time learning it. Put in the time, study regularly, and be interested in what there is to learn and you will be successful. This is not a class to blow off.
This class is was rough. Half of the class ended up dropping. I will back that up by saying Dr. Yang on a personal level is great, the course content is just difficult. I got one of the best grades in the class with a C, & I ended up retaking it at my university with an A. I did use Yang's tools to better understand the content my 2nd time around.
Professor Yang's class is a tough one, but unstuck AI helped me stay on top of the material. The workload is heavy, and tests/assignments don't always align with the textbook. Be prepared to participate actively and use study resources like ChatGPT to succeed.
Professor Yang is genuinely a nice person if you talk 1 on 1. The problem is he has a very thick accent and made it impossible to understand him. His videos are made by him and are impossible to understand. Try another professor.
Professor Yang did a very good job of making sure everyone understood the material and had a good way of teaching.
Too many labs, way too many.
This was one of the toughest classes I've ever taken. Only 8 out of 33 students remain after 6/16 weeks. Extremely tough grader. Does not offer feedback or provide correct answers to questions marked incorrect, making it difficult to learn. Multiple quizzes and assignments weekly. Will spend 6+ hours/day doing work, and still might fail.
The toughest grader EVER. study guides r useless & he gets all of his exam questions from Quizlets. Offers no help and no corrections to incorrect answers on quizzes/exams/assignments. I only took him as my Prof because I didn't have any other choice. most useless prof I've ever had. Everyone in my class ended up dropping, I wish I would've too.
Proven difficult when it comes to grading.
This professor is actually really nice and also has a sense of humor, however, his teaching methods will not help you at all. The lecture videos he provides are extremely long for no reason. Oftentimes in class, he goes over some lecture, I recommend you take most of your notes during this time. Most of the class dropped for a reason. Don't take.
These reviews genuinely scared me so bad when I had to take a class with Professor Yang. But I am so glad I did because he is an amazing person. Though this was a hybrid class, he stayed after lab to give lecture to those who wanted it. He provides study guides of exactly what's on the exam and uploads lecture videos. Actually study = you'll pass!
I took the class as I was studying for the MCAT and it helped me improve alot in
He's a really good professor. I had him for a hybrid class. If you actually study and watch his videos you will easily pass with an A. I had a C+ because i didn't do half of the homework, and i stopped studying for the last 2 exams out of 5. I honestly learned so much from his course that i applied to chem 1.
The fact he is still a teacher at macomb college is very telling of the school. Worst teacher I've ever gad in my entire life. Also very rude.
AVOID for your mental health, he picks on student randomly during lectures and will embarrass you he doesn't care. Harsh grader if you miss a number or make a small mistake. Homework is basically nonexistent by meaning that it won't budge your grade. Heavy on test and exam
Took his class hybrid, not a good choice. Sometimes he can be a bit hard to understand, but if you ask questions he will go over concepts. This class definitely takes a lot of time&effort, that I couldn't put in and many of my classmates dropped/stopped showing up. I give him the benefit of the doubt because he is a professional and chem is hard!
He just wants you to learn and understand and all the people with bad reviews aren't willing to put the work in. He was great, his lectures helped me understand topics more. Yes, chemistry is hard, so if you aren't willing to put in the effort and try, you will fail. I'm not that naturally smart of a person and I found his class great.
I got an A- in the class and worked incredibly hard to get there and he purposely dipped numerous lab grades so I wouldn't meet the requirement and now I have to retake the class and spend more more. Not a good person doesn't respond to emails and is overall disrespectful and inconsiderate. I don't know why he's a prof because it isn't for him.
