This guys couldn't speak English and graded pretty hard. Tests were very difficult. Definitely wouldn't recommend.
Nice guy. Does the example problems from the book in class. Hard to understand sometimes, but overall, you can understand what he is saying. Class starts out easy, but gets harder. Had two tests with class averages that were above 70.
Difficult to understand this guy and his theoretical explanations look like BS to me. But he does example problems from the book and explains them well. If you can study on your own, go to recitations and forget lecture. Follow the class and don't get behind on topics if you want to make the grade.
The professor is somewhat difficult to understand. It really helped that I took this class in high school, because a lot of what was taught in class didn't make sense. If you can go without the lectures and just attend the recitations, I would do that. Just ask questions, and DEFINITELY do the homework problems even though he doesn't take them up.
Really awful lecturer, difficult to understand and pay attention to class. Tests were very hard, do not recommend this professor at all.
Very poor lecturer because he is very difficult to understand. The quizzes given are fairly easy but the tests are extremely difficult. The class average was about a 65 going in to the final, and because of this he seriously curved the class and people got A's and B's. Overall very unclear, difficult. Would not recommend.
Professor Lin is a typical Georgia Tech math professor who is incredibly smart, which causes him to go through the material really fast. While a fast and difficult to understand lecturer, he was always willing to meet with students individually to further explain topics during office hours or after class.
I thought Professor Lin's lectures were fast paced. 2 tests, weekly quizzes, homework, and the final made up your grade. Going to recitation helped make some topics clearer with more examples with step-by-step calculations. TA office hours are also helpful. It's a tough class, but not impossible if you put effort into it.
He tries to teach but he is very difficult to understand. If you ask him to clarify something he doesn't, he just points to where it is on the board and expects you to magically understand it.
He is hard to understand at first because of his accent but he is a good teacher, he is there to help when needed and cares about his students. It is hard to score high on his test because of the way they're made.
Prof Lin isn't the easiest professor, but not the hardest. We had weekly quizzes, except for when there was a test, which were challenging but kept us up to date with material. He drops the 2 lowest quizzes, and gives extra credit for attending most of his lectures. Cutoff for a B is the class average, so there is slight competition among students.
Hard class with hard tests. Got a formula sheet every tests and the test averages were still C's. However, grading was extremely lenient. Dropped 3 hws/quizzes and still curved the class! Final was super hard and looked nothing like the practice final. Lectures were not great but definitely attend class for credit! Helpful during office hours
I rarely understand anything he says in his lectures. The only time I learned anything was when doing the homework and by going to recitation. He doesn't do a lot of examples in class. The one page formula sheet we got to make for each test and quiz is what saved me. He gives you practice exams and the first two tests were exactly like them.
Please, do not take this class with professor Lin. I believe he is extremely intelligent and very kind, but his thick accent makes it nearly impossible to understand any of the material. As a result, I basically just taught myself this course, which resulted in a 2 hour course taking up an absurd amount of time.
Hardest math class I've taken in my 20 young years of life. He teaches calculus with powerpoint slides and expects us to completely fully understand him. He is a nice person, but the worst math teacher. I would only recommend this class if you are some super genius math whiz, but if you are like me then DO NOT take this class. Final exam is 30% btw
Quizzes and tests are usually fair. He gives practice tests with answers. The final was impossible, but he curves to where class average is cutoff for a B. Lectures are no help. I only understood the material because of my TA. You can get a B with minimal effort, but an A is hard to come by.
I had already taken multivariable calculus in high school so I never thought the class was too difficult but it seemed like a lot of my peers did. He used participation checks but they were always on Wednesday lectures so you could safely skip class on Mondays. Tests and quizzes are most all of the grading.
Don't choose this prof
Professor Lin is a nice guy, and cares about students. His tests are somewhat hard, but as long as you understand the concepts you are fine. His accent is hard to understand at first, but later is fine. Overall, he is a good professor.
Genuinely the worst professor I have ever had, and the hardest math class I have taken in 15 years of school. Cares very little about student success and even less about clear communication. Quizzes/Test were frequent and often irrespresentative. Speaking of communication his accent is extremely thick. Do yourself a solid and dont take him.
This class was honestly very easy. However, his lectures did not help at all. I stopped going to class. I was lucky that I got the best TA ! all I studied was the recitation WS. If you can study alone, take him because it's an easy A. But if you rely on explanations from profs, don't take him. Hw very easy, around three questions per week.
His lectures were not useful in anyway, and just made the material harder to understand. It would have made more sense to just read the slides, and when I stopped coming to class and started watching Sebastian Fernandez videos, my grades improved. He didnt even have his own slides, he just read someone elses.
I am two days into this class. Do not take this professor. He takes no time at all to review anything and goes very fast in class and extremely difficult to understand. I was literally taking notes on section 12.3 and by the time I had written down everything, he had already moved on to 12.5. And I missed nearly everything from 12.4. DO NOT TAKE.
he's okay
Please do not take him if you can avoid. Terrible lecturer, heavy accent, goes slow through easy topics and flies through tough material. Doesn't really understand/comprehend questions so he never gives a straight answer. Online MML tests give no partial credit and he was very unwilling to help out students who had accidental errors. Stay away!!
I had an A on both tests going into the final and received a C in the class. The exam did not cover the material covered in the class. Two of the final exam question required techniques that were not related to multivariate calculus. This so called professor showed no interest in students or helping students . . . worst experience yet at GT
Professor Lin isn't the best explainer, but up until the final, the course was doable. I went into the final with an A and came out with a C. The class average on the final was 65. The final tested material not related to the class and was intentionally much more difficult without warning to us. The material isn't that hard, the the grading is.
Professor Lin's lectures were too fast and you would usually end up missing something important. Like the previous comments, I also had an A in the class but then ended with a C because the final was unfairly made. It seemed like it was meant to be tricky rather than difficult, which definitely didn't reflect how the course was actually taught.
Gives you no type of time on the tests. You better any% midterm 1 and final exam or ur screwed. Professor Lin also has some goofy lectures. He got me chuckling a few times but not because he's trying to be funny. If u submit a quiz, midterm, or test late (by even a second), then I guess it's time to drop. Love when he says: caption matris Perturbed
Horrible professor. Skipped every class after the first lecture because the TA's recitation was more concise and I learned more. Did not curve the course even when average scores were Cs and Ds. No leniency when submitting quizzes late (even with glitches). No communication between TAs and professor. Does not understand how to teach.
I had Lin for Diff Eq online. Lectures were mediocre, recitations were much more helpful. He's not too difficult to understand, just a couple words here and there. The tests were not terrible but the final was very obviously made to drop the class GPA. Don't take Lin's class unless you have a talent for math. A lot of people took C's.
Lin is the worst. Final and midterms are about half impossible and half do-able problems. Don't go to lectures, Sebastian Fernandez videos and recitation are much more helpful. Not lenient with partial credit on quizzes/tests. I was 0.5% from the next letter grade, he simply replied "no" to my email.
Hands down the worst teacher I have ever had, doesnt care at all about the students, barely understandable, terrible handwriting on notes and slides, kicked people out of class for asking legitimate questions, didnt know time and location of his own lecture, not at all understanding, final was brutal and covered concepts that had not been taught
such a bad prof its crazy. if you need his class to be full time just drop and take an elective instead. trust me, putting up with his class is NOT worth it. the final will probably drop your grade by a letter. partial credit is given but theres no clear point structure. wrote a whole novel for his cios but he probably wont even read it
Worst professor I've ever had. Absolute disregard for students, ridiculously hard tests.
Lectures were useless. Exams were much more difficult than the exams of the other professors with not enough time to finish.
The exams are really difficult, with most of the problems being edge cases or combination problems that aren't on the homework or in the examples. The feedback and grading system is inconsistent at best, with no real corrections ever given. Lectures are terrible, you're on your own except for recitation and plus sessions.
Really bad lectures, I was always one of
Professor is just rude to his students, reads off lecture slides, and doesn't seem to really care about anything.
For a math class, the most basic lecture concept is doing a problem and showing the work to students. Somehow this was not done once in this course. The professor writes the solutions to questions prior to coming to class, puts a picture of the work on the slide, and reads it out. There are no practice materials for assessments.
Hands down worst professor I've ever had. No practice material is provided. In lectures, he just stands by and reads off slides with prewritten solutions. Lacks empathy towards his students, is disorganized, and just disrespectful (replies to questions on Piazza with passive aggressive / condescending responses). All around terrible person TBH :(
The worst professor I have ever had. Several students complained about the first test's difficulty compare to class. In class he told us to understand the class better. No remorse. No curve. And test 2 was substantially more difficult than the first. He does not teach in lecture and ends every other sentence with "it's common sense." It is not.
Dr. Lin has to be the single worst professor I've ever had during my undergrad. He has no empathy for students, he tests you on topics he doesn't even go over in lecture, and I've never once felt like asking a question because he WILL belittle you and tell you to go revise calc 1/2, no matter what you ask. Truly terrible as an educator.
Professor Lin is the worst lecturer I have ever experienced, to the point where I don't go to class anymore since it's more effective to teach myself the material. He shows no empathy to students, so don't bother asking a question if you don't want to receive an incredibly passive aggressive answer. Overall, do not take Lin if you want to do well.
Unreceptive to feedback The exam questions are nothing like homework and quizzes Sometimes they are questions which deal with "simpler" problems (as Lin likes to say: "this is easy calc 1/2 stuff") but it throws you off and its hard to study for if you are learning completely different problem sets Only positive is he replies very quickly to emails
Run as fast as you can away from this guy. He's the only college professor whose lectures I couldn't force myself to attend. He is boring, rude, doesn't work any examples, and is debatably the worst professor I've ever had. Final exam is worth 36% of your grade. Please listen to me: DO NOT take Lin for 2550, it will be a terrible experience.
The lectures were not clear at all. 220/240 people were only using the textbook and external resources by the 3rd week.
Professor Lin is one of the worst college professors I have ever had the misfortune of having. His lectures are extremely unclear, he is rude and condescending to the students, and he made it so the final is 35% of your grade. He also ignored my disability accommodations for the final by not letting me use a calculator on it. Avoid at all costs!
he sucked so much. rude to students. never answered piazza questions. made tas do a lot of the work. okay lecturer, but a lot can be learned from just doing the homework.
This professor has trouble balancing difficultly and length. The questions aren't that hard just they take a lot of time and thus make exams way more difficult as a result. My biggest gripe is how rude he is and how he keeps stating everything is basic and totally just "calc 1". Please avoid him. He makes this class very stressful. :(
He's a good guy and very nice but not a good prof. He does not do a single example problem in class at all. Who teaches a math class without doing examples? Recitation is key if you cannot avoid this professor. Canvas was very unorganized and quizzes were given with little-to-no notice. He tries to teach how to do problems by teaching concepts...
Worst professor at Georgia Tech. Read off the slides in his lectures. Did not have compassion or respect to the students at all. Answers to students' questions are very unhelpful and dergogatory. Does not provide practice materials, and his tests were not representative of what he taught in class. If possible, avoid this professor at all cost.
If god gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers, then every student who had to endure Professor Lin's ineptitude is a Navy Seal. Professor Lin's lectures can be simplified down to one word: worthless. He seems like a nice enough guy but seriously you could stand a piece of bread up and lectures would be more insightful. AVOID HIM
This may be the worst professor at Georgia Tech. I never really had an issue with math until it was my pleasure to take this class. His rudeness towards students and unwillingness to listen to student feedback has sent not only me but many other students over the edge. I could probably learn better from a dead person.
The worst math professor at Tech. Only took him because he is the only professor for the semester. If possible to avoid DO SO AT ALL COST. For real he sucks as a professor. Whoever in their right mind rated him above a 1 needs to be examined for mental illness because they are straight up lying to themselves. DON'T TAKE
Easily the worst professor I have had at Georgia Tech. Exams are completely different from anything covered in the course, he was extremely rude and condescending to students, and lowered grades on the last exam the day before the final because he decided that the TA had been too generous. Avoid at all costs if you can.
Just don't take him. He actually sucks. Like I don't care if you think you're smart. He still sucks and the class is still hard. Also he's really rude and will only answer your emails by saying "see my announcement -sent from Outlook on IOS."
He is the worst professor to ever teach in Georgia Tech. His exams are unreasonably hard and he cut exam 3 grades by 10% one day before the final just because he couldn't standardize grading between his TAs. This professor is not worth the mental torture.
The other reviews are totally true. He gives no examples in class, quizzes and tests are questions you have never seen and extremely tight on time. For the final he gave a practice exam that had no relations to the actual exam. Granted, he did say they would not be related but it is the first practice problems he has given and it sucked. Unlucky ig
No matter how important this class is for your graduation or how independent you are with your learning, do not take this class with Professor Lin. I have never had a professor so unaccommodating of their student's needs.
Lin is truly the worst professor I've ever had. His exams are so difficult because there is no way to study. He posts no help and no other multi professor makes their exam this difficult. The questions out of the textbook are easier than his exams. He is such a bad professor that a toddler could do a better job breaking down calculus. DO NOT TAKE
Awful experience. Had to self-teach the entire course since lectures are useless. Exams are difficult and he refused to give supplementary practice. He also curved midterm 3 grades down weeks after the grades were posted due to a mistake on his part. Awful experience. I hope no one has to put up with him again.
Even if he is the only prof available DO NOT TAKE HIM, wait a semester. Rushes through pre-worked out problems on the slides. And I don't know if it's intentional or not but he has very passive-aggressive responses. Every other lecture sentence ends with "this is common sense" or "this is basically calc 1/2," and then he refuses to elaborate.
I cannot stress this enough but DO NOT TAKE HIM. I only took him because he was the only one available for the fall semester. I was one of the people who showed up to every lecture even though they were not helpful, just in case he said anything important. I studied 10+ hours for each test and it has not helped a bit.
The professor was rude and dedicated to trying to make students' life difficult and make them fail. He doesn't give good feedback and takes effort to deduct marks the last day before exams. I got an A but do not take his class.
90% of the posts here are blaming him for things that aren't even his fault (lang barrier coming off as rude). For a huge class, he is extremely accessible. He focuses more on understanding the material rather than memorisation which is why his tests may seem difficult. If you truly care about learning the content, take his class.Generous curve too
He knows his stuff but he doesn't care for his students. This is a very exam-heavy class. Have to do very well in all the tests to get an ok grade.
Awful professor and quite frankly a disrespectful and callous person. Other posts explain the issues with his class so I won't elaborate. But AVOID at all costs. GT administration should look into some of the concerns that have been raised below.
This professor is literally the worst professor at Georgia Tech. He was the only professor for Multi whenever I had to take him. He literally doesn't teach he only looks at power points with problems that are already done and instead of explaining concepts he says all the concepts are easy and he also has a strong accent that is hard to understand.
The materials he gave were very helpful.
This class often feels impossible because you never know where you stand. Grading is extremely slow, which isn't entirely his fault, but he doesn't press the TA for it. Mentioned "we need our exams back to determine if we should drop the class". lectures arejust reading the textbook and writing it down on the whiteboard. Little to no feedback.
Horrible lectures. He literally read out of the book (printed pages and wrote them on the whiteboard). Homework was out of the textbook, and solutions were just pages posted from the solutions manual. It was very apparent that he did not care about the students or the course.
Best professor in the world
Avoid at all costs. Professor read out of the textbook for the entire lecture. Tests were way harder than they needed to be.
I feel like the 5 star reviews are either the professor himself or trolls. Because if you've actually had this person's class, you would rate them a 0.
This guy is the absolute worst Please avoid
Not sigma class :(
bro please for me, never take this class. i will pray to god for yoy if you do
god awful class, I almost contemplated taking a gap semester because of him
Please this is illegal to take this classroom. It doesn't help that he's instagram famous now for his reviews BUT PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT take this class. I never liked math and he genuinely made me faking a medical emergency so I could drop out of this class. He gives weekly tests and does not have an office hour (is this against department policy??)
don't listen to these guys hes really easy
BORING BORING BORING
LAME LAME LAME
Professor made this class super easy to understand. one of the easiest A's I've gotten.
u get a 1 score because I can give u 1
very gooooood professor, make me give you 1
I give him 1 because that's the lowest it goes. These 5 stars are definitely trolls or his alts. I will literally do jail time than stand in the same room as him. Idk how he's still allowed to work here. Part of me almost thinks it's an act to be tough with first years. If you take this class despite warnings, you must be clinically insane.
hes lowk the goat
Worst person on earth should get fired ASAP can't grade for shet
He is an amazing professor who always helps when prompted. He is the reason that I want to go into academia for mathematics. Don't listen to the haters, he is the goat.
Was forced to take his class because of scheduling and was scared to go in after reading reviews. Turns out, he's actually chill and easy! I learned that there is a gc dedicated to 1 rating this prof. This is also a running gag against him. Don't be afraid of his reviews since most are spam. Go to his office hours, study early, and it's easy A :)
10/10 would never try again
