Good instructor who really goes over the material in detail. Study from his notes and you will do well in class. Professor really know a great deal about finance. Highly recommended!
he is a good guy. take his class if you just wanna pass. studying hard make your grade higher of course. he provides a class note and sample exams. all u have to do is to review and understand sample exams. then u may get B or higher.
he's fair and easy. lots of extra cresit points!
He was one of the worst instructors I have ever had. Our grade was based on two tests only and a 10pg stock eval. report. When many in the class confronted him on the validity of the info tested on the final he got irate and yelled at the students. A majority of the class got D's on the final.
This Professor stated it was his job to transfer his knowledge to his students. I did not learn anything from him. The concepts I learned were from self study.
One of the worst teachers in the Business Dept. Very unclear and his lectures suck! You are left to wonder if he really knows the material well. Also, it is very difficult to understand him. Do not take him!!!
He's boring...there is no better word to describe his lectures. Hard tests. Gives review sheet and tests on completely different material.
i don't recomman him
Took him for Fin 303. The class was really hard and boring. Only gives a midterm and a final. The tests are really hard. He is really boring. Do not recommend to take him.
One of the worst teachers in the Business Dept. Very unclear and in his lectures. dont take him trust me
He is an excellent professor and fair in grading. I think the people who don't study and try to get by college with breeze complain about such professor as this. No wonder professors that slack and give easy grades have the best ratings.
He has lecture notes and you just need to study off of them. I dont know why people give him such a low rating. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS STUDY HIS NOTES. should be okay if you study and go to class but he is hard to understand at times. Very helpful when it comes to the group project. Just study his notes people
This guy is such an idiot. Talks alot but nothing seems to come out. Doesnt make sense and has the most unorganized grading standard i have ever seen. He just gives you a grade on an assignment without letting you know why. Seems hard to please, i think he thinks he knows everything so he puts down everyone else when they are confused. DONTTAKE HIM
Professor Zhou likes details on the assignments. He finds little mistakes on the reports and points them out. It would help if he gives more feedback on the reports. Other than that, he's a nice guy and is a fair grader. The most important part is to team up with a hard working group. Good luck~!
He is very picky. Overall he is a nice guy, and wants everyone to pass gateway. Its hard to get that "A" in his class, it gotta be PERFECT. otherwise not as bad as people make it out to be. its time consuming, and pray you get a hard working group, otherwise your lucked out!!!
His final exam questions are not lecture material related by a large percentage. So many not so clear issues with him when it comes to grading, teaching, focus areas for the exam, and last but not least his heavy accent. Try to avoid taking his class if you can!!!
Unclear as to what to study for the test. Very boring lecturer who drones on until the bitter end. Also takes a ridicuolously long time posting the final grades, especially considering the final was a scantron test.
Imagine the worst teacher in the World...this guy even 10 times worse. He will put you to sleep with his boring repeatition of the last two or three words of every sentence. No kidding! no kidding! no kidding!!! As for learning, you can learn more from reading one fo those books for dummies on your own. His final questions are in the geek zone,
This guy was great!! I highly reccomend taking gateway w/ him. He is very nice and wants badly for you to pass. Try to take it in summer or winter cuz it's waaayy easier!! Try to get good group or else you may be in trouble. DONT TAKE EPHRAT!!!!!!!!!!
EASY TO GET A "B", BUT VERY DIFFICULT TO GET "A". FAIR GRADER.
Good Examples, If you study- the tests are easy.
He is a good professor. His test are very straight forward. Whatever he teaches in class will be on the tests...No surprises. A good college level teacher. I do recommend taking this teacher.
His lectures are very clear, but doesn't know how to tie everything together. His office hours R not too helpful bcuz he doesn't answer your questions,or even e-mails. His tests require a little thinking. Try not to take him for your last semester.
EASY TO GET A "B", BUT VERY DIFFICULT TO GET "A". FAIR GRADER. He doesn’t teach well. You need to read the book, and then you’ll get a B. For A you have to score well in all of his exams, which there are 4 exams. It's not easy to score high in all 4 exams. Overall he is a good man, but he sucks in teaching.
He is not bad. But His accent is hard to understand. Also his lecture notes are so cluttered (some errors) & hard to understand. You should prepare for assignment a long time before the due date, because, he desn't give you enough advise, so basically you have to figure out all by yourself. I know he sent a lot of retaking students.
THE WORST teacher EVER ...
Took the class in Winter-big mistake. Overwhelming amount of info, no help from teacher, extremely hard exams that have nothing to do with the notes or the book. Qs on tests are out of this world, very confusing, and he doesn't curve. Got a B+, but had to study for hours every day.
horrible teacher. do not recommend at all. book was not helpful either. no curve and exams are not like the sample problems from the book.
I took it during summer session. Our grade was based on a midterm exam & the final exam, each worth 50% of your grade. The midterm covered 8 chapters w/ wayyyyy too much info to absorb in a short amount of time & the final covered 7 chapters. He doesn't curve & doesn't allow notes or a "cheat sheet" during a test. Take someone else if possible.
HARD. Nice guy, very approachable, but you WILL NOT get an A. Period. He told us that the last day of class! He was my Gateway teacher and I was on a team that put in 110% the entire course (he acknowledged and praised us for this), but we still got B's. Also, I advise people to take Gateway over the summer.
Beware! Does not speak english. Wrote on the board for everyone to buy stock options and put it all on credit. Taught only from his notes, waisted money on book, embarrases you for asking questions. Should be reported to sec.
he doesn't know English and the subject that he teaches. stay away!!!!
Awesome teacher...made gateway semi-enjoyable...you get participation points...cases are hard just get in a good group and work hard and you should be fine...overall probably one of the best gateways professors from what I've heard...Highly Recommended
Though teacher, hard class. He does lots of material, covers almost everything in the test, even though he does multiply choice. He explains everything once and has extensive notes ready to to purchase. But you have to learn everything and its allot. Dont think he curved. Finance people did well in his class.
Hardest class I'v ever taken. He lectures from his notes and explains. Asked for appointment and did not accomodate. Asked questions regarding class and he could not answer. Once you ask a question all he says is "Study hard." Duh!!!He is approachable but difficult to understand.
Be sure to study hard for this class. Essay and problems. No scantron.
Worst CSUN teacher I ever had. Can't understand him. Repeats everything 3 times and blames bad grades all on students, not lack of his teaching abilities.
The Prof. Means well overall. He has a good understanding of what he is teaching, however he lacks communication skills in order to teach the material properly. the exams aren't easy, but if you try, most of the class gets a C.
He is not hard and not easy, His lectures are extremely boring and he grades very "traditionally", meaning that he does not curve so study hard. He is not helpful at all either. Just show up to class as much as you can and study.
I'm a slacker! He's cool. IDK why people are complaining. SLACKER TIPS: Study his Quickcopies lecture notes, go to class, NO BOOK NEEDED just copy chapter review questions. Exam questions come from examples in class. It's an easy B. His english is a little bad, but still understandable. Favorite quote by him... "What dat mean?" Very repetitive.
What can I say, he should have an interpreter. It is impossible to understand him when he speaks. Don't bother visiting him during office hours. If you don't state the question just the way he wants you to, he will yell at you and tell you to get out of his office. His tests aren't impossible, but you need to study your butt off!
i took his BUS 302 class, Would Not get an A. well you could try its like 1% of the class. i took him because it was the only one opened.
Great Teacher!! One of the best at CSUN.. I don't know why people are complaining? You need to attend class in order to get a good grade, whatever he goes over in class will be on the exam. If you study a little hard you'll get a good grade. Very helpful and does an awesome job making everything clear. Highly recommend him.
Awesome teacher. He's actually really easy and he made me love finance.
The class was titled Futures & Options. It should have been called Arbitrage, Arbitrage, Arbitrage. The man yells at the class (because he has none). If this man has tenure, that is too bad for CSUN, his class is a waste of time. Teacher is hostile, stay away.
Hard-working, kind, and caring professor. He wants you to succeed. Gives a good lecture, solves probles, provides sample questions for the upcoming exam. He goes over each in the sampler. Do your work, read his material, crank hard on the sample questions, and you find him a great professor. He does everything in its order and does his work right
Rough Syllabus 50/50 nothing else no curve so you make it or break it.
He is one the best professor I have ever had. He organized his lecture well. If you come to class, understand his notes, study review questions, and practice homework, you will do really well.
You are required to know existing and outside material, balance team efforts, and ensure the final presentation is consistent. Doesn't grade on a curve so doesn't take responsibility for the entire class not knowing the existing material. Be prepared to work harder than necessary and the difficulty of managing a team.
He chooses which team you'll be on based on your availability, so you are stuck with whomever. If you get slackers you have to motivate them. The main emphasis of the class is teamwork. Extremely time consuming class, but useful knowledge you might use in the real world. Cases need to be flawless to receive an A grade. Zhou is very organized.
Exams are VERY similar to study guide he provides. Know how to do the problems in the study guide and you will get an A or B. Not a hard class. 2 exams and a final. Multiple choice. Take notes on how to do problems and practice the study guide a few times before test. That's all there is to it.
I took him for Bus 302 in a previous semester and the same thing happened this time: he doesn't want to help as much as he wants to point out flaws in students or criticize. Oh I'm sorry, I thought you're getting paid to help us? Gives you a hard time if you're behind rather than a helping hand. With an attitude like that, get lost.
Nice teacher. The structure of his class is great. Fantastic study guides, makes himself available for help, responds to emails quickly, and spends adequate time on chapters. However, he is hard to understand. Also, I felt I didn't actually need to attend class at all. His study guides were so great that his lectures were unnecessary.
Nice professor. Mails you amazingly good study guides and lectures notes. Attendance isn't mandatory. Will respond immediately to your emails. Even gives you a pamphlet on how to use your calculator and lets you have it on the test. What more could you want? His accent can be hard to understand, but the pros outweigh the cons.
This professor is great. He's very helpful and can maintain the interest in the topic. If you read the book and understand his study guides, there is no need to go to class. His accent isn't bad. He makes an extra effort to pronounce clearly and correctly. An A is very attainable.
I thought this Professor was OK. He's very organized and the tests reflect what he teaches. This was not an easy class but the Professor was fair.
LETS BE HONEST... A VERY DRY PERSONALITY. KNOWS HIS STUFF AND TEACHES WELL. THIS IS AS STRAIGHTFORWARD AS A CLASS CAN GET. 2 MIDTERMS AND A FINAL.NO CURVE.NO TRICKS. GIVES REVIEW SHEETS FOR THE TESTS THAT ARE VERY SIMILAR TO ACTUAL MIDTERM. TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN FINANCE.
His exams are not too difficult. If you go over the chapter study guides and try to understand both concepts and formulas you should be able to do fairly well. His practice exams are very helpful and reflect how actual exams are.
Horrible class. He stands in front of class and reads word by word from the lecture notes. Big waste of time. Would NOT recommend to anyone interested in Finance.
Book is a waste of money, didn't use it once. Grade is based off of 3 tests, so don't screw up. Class is pretty much straightforward. He'll give you review notes and tell you what to focus on. At first I felt overwhelmed with the material, but it's actually not too hard. It's doable. Got a B.
Really nice and helpful.
first two midterms seem easy, so dont let them fool you. you will get screwed over on the final exam.
Finance 303 in general is a difficult class for people who don't care for it. I needed to retake the class and decided to take it with Zhou (and I passed!). You have to go to class to learn the material (especially if you don't read the book like me). Very helpful. Relatively fairly easy to pass if you just need the credit for the class.
He was a great professor! He provides his lectures and his studyguides on his website, which are mainly what you need to study for the M/C 2 midterms and final. Show up to class, study and pay attention!
Eh, he was a very nice guy, but frankly almost completely incomprehensible. Finance is not an easy subject. Study his review exams and you'll get at least a C on his tests. Come to class and participate and you'll probably end up with an A. He doesn't curve exams but he curves the overall grade spectrum. Ex: 87-89% is an A-.
he teaches straight from book and will only test u on stuff he went over. no surprises, he explains from his notes in class which r from book, does review before every test and it is almost identical to test with different numbers. 2 mid's and 1 final, no HW or extra cred. no curve. its 30,30,40 no cumulative. i did study a bit and got an A.
Make sure you get a good group! If not make sure you communicate with him about it. He is very picky about the information in your case studies, so try and do your best. He is not impossible but easier than other BUS302 professors. He is very approachable. Go to every class because he does take attendance. Participate because that is extra credit.
He is a nice guy, but it can be very difficult to pay attention during his lecture. He's accent is thick and he can be TOO thorough in his explanations. Most of your grade will be determined by your group work. Be sure to pay attention to details because he can get very picky. Oh, and participation is a MUST in EVERY meeting.
Unclear. Explains poorly. Emphasizes unimportant aspects in lectures. Uses excessive acronyms. He says many words but communicates nothing meaningful. The book is useless. You are better off learning from lecture notes. The notes are poorly structured (you will need to reformat & rewrite them to give them actual meaning.) He curvs grade. my grade=B
Professor Zhou is awesome! Once you learn the way he teaches you will do great in his class. Use his office hours! His tests reflect the practice exams he provides and his lecture notes are online, print them out and bring them to class. Also the problems he assigns in the book do them they will help you on the test! Amazing teacher!
I found Professor Zhou to be very straightforward. Just practice the study guides and you will do well. Everything on the tests is either from the study guide, homework, or notes, no surprises, no tricks. Professor Zhou doesn't try to make things more difficult and his tests are very fair. I highly recommend him.
No text book needed. Easy pass class by just following the review notes. YOU do not need to attend class at all but shall make available for review note session. Test 1 & 2 are super easy, the last test has 40 questions and many of them are not from review notes( review notes only have 30 questions). Lecture is boring and dry, and not always helpfu
Nice guy, Kind of funny when you can understand him, he does have an accent but if you can get over that he explains pretty clearly. Definitely should read the book, I didnt the first time and its a big reason why I didnt pass his class, remember this is upper division finance. Study and If you need help go to office hours he seems friendly.
hardest class ever. hard to follow and doesn't explain everything. notes are provided and he does give lots of practice problems. he will not post and grades moodle or email. you must meet with him during his office hours to get your grades on tests, so if you work and don' have time to meet you will never know your grade throughout the class.
Your graded on 3 tests the entire semesters, two midterms with 30 questions each and 1 final with 40 questions. He gives review notes and sample exams after each lecture, and most of his test question come from those practice exams. Not the best at lectures, all and all its mostly up to you to keep up with the material to do well in the class.
Very tough class but his lectures are clear. GROUP STUDY saved my life!!! Don't try doing it on your own even if you know the material. Teach someone in the class to make sure you know it well. Study guide helps a lot and I waited before each exam to do the moodle homework he gives every week for extra practice. Still a hard subject tho.

He is one of the best Professors at Csun. The class itself has a lot of material itself. You must attend all the classes takes notes. He is extremely helpful at his office hours. And if you can solve his practice exam before midterm and final you should be able to get A. But you need to work hard yourself.
Long boring lectures. Reads off class notes he gives you which are terribly written. If you do the practice exams and read lecture notes you should be fine. Doesn't explain the "why" of concepts or make them relatable. Knows his stuff, but a terrible teacher. No one paid attention during lecture, because they were useless. Very dry.
I like mr. Zhou. Yes, his tests are tricky, but you get the hang of what he expects pretty fast. His notes are laid out in a way that makes it relatively easy to follow along. Just study hard and you will like him too.
3 straight forward exams; 30%,30%40%. No chance to make up grades or not extra points, nothing. You really have to study a lot, so for every exam I had to start studying 3 weeks in advance and practice a lot. You need to purchase the expensive book around $300 since he always use the latest edition! Class participation is worthless!!
Class is straight forward from the start, 2 midterms and a final, worth 30,30,and 40 percent. Not an easy class, definitely need to dedicate time and effort into it. Professor is very helpful during office hours
He is the most unhelpful proffesor I have ever had. I took his online course and every time I had a question it was as though he didn't even take time to read my question. He responds fairly quick, but aeach answer he gives back might as well be"oh well, not my problem" class is easy if you have a partner and time. Its a lot of work.
He is one of the toughest teacher I've ever had. Does not give you answers to the problem- gives you formulas and figure out yourself. I know a student should be able to study on its own but sometimes you need an example in order to understand. Don't take online class with him you will fail, the rounding system of digits is tough and you might fail
He is very passionate about finance, educated, provides great planned out lectures that are very interesting, is a very fair test maker, generous grader, caring, and assigns homework (doesn't collect) that are very helpful on the test. He doesn't try to trick you on the test so put in time and study a lot and most importantly practice.
He is an ok professor. If you are taking an online class with him, be ready to be ghosted the whole semester. The only way you can contact him is through his office hours and does not use canvas. He uses a third party site to give assignments, tests and quizzes. Also, he has you write a total of 4 essays for this class.
Perfect class if you are busy with work and other classes. Pretty straightforward class. The Professor is available during office hours and emails you to remind you about the HW and test that about to be due.
A total of 3 grades in the grade book. No curve. No homework. No extra credit. Only went over slides. Explanations were poor, and minimal examples. When students asked to slow down, he would speed up.
His online class was very easy. Deadlines were a month apart to do 5 chapters of work on the website. Three exams that are easy to get A's on. Overall, a very easy class that is perfect for someone with a busy schedule.
I am a good student who has received A's in every prior accounting class. I have studied over 10-15 hours on the exams and still received low Bs and high Cs. Book and examples from the slides and practice tests are not like the exams at all. Hard to understand lectures. Do not take in person.
Worst professor EVER.Its like he teaches off a script if you ask him a question he doesn't know how to respond. He gives NO homework which sounds amazing until your grade only consists of 3 exams. You can barely understand him and he doesn't explain anything in a normal way. It's insane how im paying to teach myself and struggle. He needs a dif job
WORST PROF EVER.He teaches off a script, if you ask him a question he cant respond. No hw but 3 exams consist of your grade, good luck. Office hrs are useless he'll basically say youre screwed and there's nothing you can do before you even take exam 2. You cant understand him and he teaches the way he learned in a different country. CSUN do better.
This professor does not care about his students. When you ask him for help or advice his response is always “study harder”. He's just there for his paycheck and just reads off the slides. You have to teach yourself the course. I don't know how he's a professor, he needs to retire. Trust me, do not take him.
turn around and find another teacher or find a good prayer for this class to survive. This man does not know how to teach nor care for his students. 3 exams is basically your grade. No homework, no extra credit, and no curves.
Just reads off lectures slides and provides little to no insight on what to expect on the exams. I got an A in the class but requires a lot of self-study but I heard his online class is fine, avoid in-person lecture at all cost.
Only graded off 3 exams throughout semester and 0 homework. Attendance not mandatory. His lectures are hard to follow and he rushes through the formulas on calculator, so it is hard to keep up. You'll be teaching yourself a lot of the material. Curved heavily so it is possible to pass, just put in the work.
