Terrible prof. Has a hard time explaining concepts. When doing problems on the board consistently makes mistakes and ends up with the wrong answer. Says that he doesn't want to rush the class and then in the next breath says he has to hurry through this chapter in order to keep up with the other classes. Caught him using another prof's notes
Never explained concepts in the depth which we were tested on. Lectures led me to believe it would be an easy course as he never went into ANY depth in class. I ended up going to a 211 lecture which ended up covering concepts this lecture never did.
Not the best prof, but a good guy. The course itself isn't that hard. Got all the major concepts across
If you can read, don't go to his class. His notes are right from the textbook so there is no point in going to class. The examples he gives are too straightforward and don't challenge your understanding, plus he makes a lot of mistakes. If he wrote the exam everyone would get A+, unfortunately he doesn't! Nice guy though.
Great guy, always willing to help out his students...
never get bored in class, teachings are based on real life events
never get bored in his class, I encourage everyone to take this course with him.
Awesome professor
He is brilliant
He made the material so easy to understand, if you go and listen you would get A..........
The best professor ever but make sure you study....
I would suggest taking a class with this man before you graduate U of C. He's a great, fantastic professor.
So nice, Funny, smart and fair grader
Absolutely love his class. He's so top shelf!!!
He is the man, take this class you wont regret it.........
This is the best prof ever!
Awesome guy
Ziad is an awesome professor. He is extremely enthusiastic about the material & very helpful & respectful to students. He is responsive to e-mails, will stay after class to answer questions, will re-grade midterm questions if you feel you've been unfairly graded. I only wish his notes were available before class as opposed to the end of each week.

An extremely good professor- he is respectful to students (responds to emails & stays after class to answer questions), organized (excellent notes, examples & review problems), & very enthusiastic about course material and teaching. His jokes and enthusiasm towards physics makes attending class and learning fun. I feel privileged to have had him!

A wonderful instructor who genuinely wants to see his students succeed! He is very good at returning emails in a timely manner and generous with his time. Approachable and friendly!
Absolutely my favorite teacher at U of C!! Id recommend him to anyone - Try to get him if you can, he'll make you smile every class
Ziad is an excellent teacher and he is one of the best professor I have ever had. He makes physics easy and understandable.
Dr. Abusara was an excellent Professor. He was ALWAYS willing to help you and really cares about his students. It was evident to me that he truly wanted his students to do well, which was very much appreciated. I would strongly recommend taking Physics with him, he makes the class fun to go to and is very clear in his teaching!! He's amazing!
Professor Abusara is one of the best Physics professor!! he explains everything so clearly.. he makes physics an easy, flexible and fun subject. before i used to think that physics is the hardest subject but not anymore and thanks to Dr. Abusara. i really admire his teaching methods and i wish all my prof looks like him.
Awesome and interesting professor. very helpful, TAKE THIS CLASS. You won't regret it!
He is an excellent professor. Knows what he's talking about and very clear and precise when doing problems. He is very clear on the concept and is pretty funny at times. Loved his class. Would recommend it to everyone.
Once you get over his accent (having lived in the Middle East I was used to it) he opens a world of possibilities up for you. Funny as well, he is a quick responder to emails, sticks to the course outline and tries his best to get you ready for the exam.
His accent doesn't make him incomprehensible, but his explanations and examples leave a lot to be desired.
Best professor I had at U of c so far. Wonderful class!
Awesome prof.! Very engaging and passionate.
SO much love for Dr Abu Sara. He genuinely wants his students to do well and is so willing to help you. If you don't understand he's patient and will explain the same thing until you understand. VERY reachable by email and very passionate about teaching and physics in general. He has an accent but is in no means hard to understand. Best prof!
Awesome person and a great prof. Just a nice person overall, goes over the stuff nice and slow so you can understand. Also grades awesome, managed to squeeze some extra marks here and there for my work on my midterms/finals.
A prof that truly helps his students. Really cool, passionated about his work, and straight down to earth.
Dr. Abusara is awesome. He really wants every student in his class to do well.
Ziad is a BOSS. If you have a choice between wait list for his class and a spot in another lecture, go for the wait list. Definitely worth it, youll learn a ton.
Amazing professor, interesting and very helpful. Great class to Take but must put in a good amount of effort to do well. TAKE HIM IF YOU GET THE CHANCE.
Dr. Abusara is a WONDERFUL Professor. He is very intelligent and cares about his students. I really was engaged in and enjoyed his class. He made it interesting and challenging. I truly want to thank Dr. Abusara for his good humor and willingness to help.
Great professor who really cares, nice and fatherly behavior.
Great professor, very helpful and clear. Straightforward lectures, important to follow the book, but a very fair and strong teacher.
Put a little hard work and u can aim for an A. Labs are pretty easy. Midterms were easy but lengthy.you are writing even in the last minute.Practice assignment questions for final. Assigned textbook was of no help.Arrange any other textbook if u can.
Great professor! Very kind and considerate of his students and quality of teaching.
Excellent professor!
The best prof at the University of Calgary. If you never had him before, you have missed out big time. He does care about marks and if there is a situation that impacts the student, he will try his best to help them.
Even if you don't like physics, he makes every physics lecture hilarious and much easier to go through. While he has a slight accent, he breaks down complex concepts into their parts and gives us many examples of how to solve each problem. He clearly wants his class to succeed, and is without a doubt one of the best physics professors in UofC.
Dr. Abusara's a great professor. He goes over examples in class and takes the time to see if the class understands the concept. He covers all of the material on the exams in class. He's also very approachable after class and is always willing to explain the material further if you're having trouble.
PHYS 259 is fundamentally a difficult course, and at the beginning it is difficult to wrap your head around certain concepts. But as the semester progresses, and you get used to the basic concepts, you'll find Abusara is very good at explaining concepts and deriving formulas.
Such an amazing professor. He's smart and really cares for each of his students. I have learned a lot from his class. He's so nice, stay after class and offer help. He's one of the best!
It is clear he is not comfortable at all with this first year material. Barely able to convey basic concepts, makes frequent mistakes. Lectures are disjointed and do not follow other profs note templates. Tophat quizzes make up most of the class. There is a language barrier present. Time commitment of 4X more than any other class because of this.
The most interesting, nicest, most entertaining professor I have ever had. I enjoyed going to this class more than any other class in the university solely because of how fantastic he is. Highly recommend!!!
Really great professor! Very willing to sit down to talk over questions after class or any time, even outside of office hours.
Abusara is no doubt a professor who tries to make lectures fun by cracking jokes, however his teaching could use some improvement. Lectures are filled with TopHat questions to make sure you understand the material and thus when a majority of the people understand, he doesn't thoroughly explain that concept. Also, his explanations aren't very clear.
Dr Abusara had difficulty covering the material for the class, perhaps because he has never taught this class before. Many lectures led to more confusion than clarity which meant many hours at home trying to keep up with the class. Exams are much more difficult than any material practiced and the marking is hard - get ready to invest a lot of time.
Abusara's lectures were painful to sit through as it seemed like he was learning the material for the first time with us. He would sometimes spend entire lecture's doing proofs that were largely irrelevant to what we actually needed to know. Get ready to teach yourself the entire course from the textbook.
I thought it was one of my best class I had this term and I was happy to attend this class 4 days a week. It was very worth it. The Prof. was super funny and is rarely boring in this class. I would take this class again especially with this prof.
Funny guy, difficult tests, PHYS 259 is probably one of the harder courses of first year. Lectures were overly visual and course wasn't well structured, would have helped to have all the notes written in class. Abusara was decent prof, but the challenge was in the difficulty of test not the prof himself. his writing could be neater though
Brilliant and Hilarious professor. He really CARES about his students. The best prefessor I've ever had. He replies to emails in less than 24 hours and he is super patient. Such an amazing teacher!
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR, INCREDIBLE. Its worth taking any class with him.
Dr. Abusara is my favorite teacher at U of C. He is filled with knowledge and he definitely knows what he's doing. He's also nice guy and cares about his students. He's also very understanding and chill when it comes to students asking for help.
I have had Ziad for 2 classes now, and he is by far my favorite teacher at U of C. He works with his students and believes in them. He puts effort into his student's success and it is seen in his lectures. I would recommend him for sure!
If you want a professor to make your day better, Ziad is the man for the job. Brilliant, hilarious, and caring prof. If you want to pass physics and enjoy it, you have to take it with Ziad. A father figure.
Excellent instructor- lectures are interesting, well-presented, and informative. He takes his time to answer questions and to relate the subject matter to the bigger picture. Generally, a really nice guy who clearly loves his subject and cares about his students.
If you want to have a good time and learn, Ziad is the prof for it. I actually really looked forward to class because of him and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students. The lecture environment was great bc of him!
I just love this professor; he is the best :)
Dr. Abu Sara is literally one of the best profs I've had so far. He is SO caring for his students and is very understanding. He doesn't want to make students feel disadvantaged, and he constantly extended deadlines multiple times because he wanted us to be able to get a grade (instead of failing because of a missed submission). He is amazing!!!!!!
Probably the best instructor I have ever had. Very understanding and puts his students first; really attentive and accessible, and very willing to help and answer questions. His study sessions are a great resource so definitely attend!
He marked my quizzes wrong and I asked him to change but he didn't do anything yet he told me what it makes me think I deserve more!? I told him the answer in the system is not rounding currectly, he wasn't even helpful with anything I told him. He was still stuck with the same answer
Great guy, knows what he's talking about. Learned a lot!
It was a really well taught class.
This prof is honestly the best I've had so far. His notes are clear, he is always there to help out and answer questions, his exams are fair (do the work and you will pass) and above all he really listens to the students needs and opinion
Nice, kind, amazing professor; he is the best prof I have met. Very Patient !!!
He's literally the nicest prof ever!! He really cares about his students and always provide help/support when you need it! Make sure to attend his lectures and ask for help when you need it and you should be okay.
great prof
I love Ziad, he is just an amazing PROF, Class is Never BoringI He makes Physics fit our world. Enjoy Class A lot!
Very nice guy, super helpful in lecture by giving great helpful examples for the exam.
Nicest teacher professor ever! He is the dream professor!!!
Ziad truly cares about his students! I had him for many classes (Kazkhstan\SAIT Project) and always learned a lot. He is there for you if you need extra help and not just in his classes. He is friendly and super nice. He is an excellent professor and a great guy. I am lucky to know him and learn from him. I wish I can meet him again.
Dr. Abusara is a professor who tends to make material fun, extremely helpful with things students don't understand. He teaches with clarity and is willing to work with anyone who needs help individually. Ziad made physics easy - one of the best prof's I've ever had.
He is a professor who engages students with physics like no other. Hilarious, caring, and likeable, he immediately catches the attention of everyone. In addition, he provides sufficient practise for assignments, quizzes, and exams. Would definitely have him as a teacher for other courses.
All I have to say is I love this man, he cares for his students so much. He solves graded assignments for us when the majority of the class had problems with them, he gave us tips to study for the quiz and final. Take him if you can, his teaching style is ok needs work though, but reading the textbook and his note helped.
Dr. Abusara is one of the only two Physics Prof whom really cared for their students (Dr. Plume was also great). He adjusts to the struggles of the students. if he feels like the class weren't able to grasp the concepts, he goes into detail.
Dr. Abusara is great, I loved his lectures so much. He went through plenty of examples to prepare us for tests, and he explained assignment questions when the class was really struggling with them. Also, he stayed after class to answer questions for students and he was always trying to help us :)
Dr. Abusara is an amazing professor! He's the kind of prof you can tell genuinely cares about the students' education and future. Going to his class is enjoyable, he's funny, but also great at explaining topics and is very accommodating. It is definitely important to attend lectures since he doesn't post solutions to the slides.
Dr. Abusara is a very very nice professor! every student who takes any of his classes loves him :-). Always helpful, really cares about his students and the subject he is teaching!
Clearly wants his students to succeed and is happy to clarify or repeat concepts that students are confused about. Focuses a lot on practice problems during lectures, which I found to be incredibly helpful with assignments and quizzes.
Love Ziad! He's a brilliant physics prof who deeply cares for his students. He ensures understanding & success. Inspiring dedication! So lucky to learn from him.
I hold Ziad in the highest esteem as an outstanding professor, and I have had the pleasure of taking two courses with him thus far. I am actively seeking the opportunity to enroll in another course with him, as he is unquestionably my favorite professor.
Dr. Abusara really cares about his students and shows that he wants all of us to do well. His lectures were a little bit boring but maybe that's just because it's physics. He does useful examples in class and test questions were always similar/ sometimes the exact same as questions he did in class.
Love him. He really cares about his students and wants them all to do well in his class. I hated physics but still went to lectures since he was so helpful and made it a good experience for all his students.
Without a doubt, Dr. Abusara is my preferred professor at U of C. Despite experiencing heightened stress during the final exam, his soothing presence enabled me to perform exceptionally well. I eagerly look for the opportunity to have him as my professor in another course.
I have nothing but respect for Dr. Abusara! He is an incredible professor who clearly cares about the well-being of his students. He makes the important material covered in class very clear, and always tries to explain things in the easiest way possible to help you succeed. If you have an opportunity to take a class with this professor, DO IT!!
If you have the chance, I strongly advise taking a course taught by Dr. Abusara, who is an exceptional professor. He displays a genuine concern for his students, and even though physics isn't my favorite subject, I attend his lectures regularly since he makes them enjoyable.
Dr. Abusara is truly outstanding, and he holds the position of being my most beloved professor.
Among all the professors I have encountered during my university journey, Dr. Abusara unquestionably ranks as the best. Ziad holds a special place in my heart, and it is my sincerest hope that he truly understands the profound love and affection his students have for him.
Professor Abusara is hands down one of the best professors ever. Physics is not my thing, but he made it much more approachable and provided many examples, which were almost always on the quizzes. In the spring semester, he increased the number of quizzes from 3 (from when he taught in fall) to 6 in order to give us a better chance at success.
Dr. Abusara is my favorite professor; I deeply admire him! This marks my third time taking a course with him, and although it isn't necessary for my graduation, I specifically chose it because of him. If you have the chance to enroll in any of his courses, I highly recommend him; he truly stands out as the best.
Extremely unprepared and has difficulty working out correct solutions to his own examples in front of the class. He also writes his own reviews on here. Its very obvious.
Really kind and would provide us with fair tests, but I felt the lectures to be a bit messy since he would sometimes give examples and leave them unanswered or not explain them very clearly. Overall pretty good, but slides are often lacking in information.
Very kind, does many examples in class, tells you which questions will be on exams. It's very clear he wants his students to succeed. Great prof, very unintentionally funny, although sometimes doesn't explain topics the clearest. Made someone whos normally awful at physics become much better at it. Would definitely recommend taking a class with him
I'm enrolled in a different course section, but I attended his final review yesterday. He genuinely cares about his students and wants us to succeed. That was evident during his review.
Great Professor!
Very caring person with messy lectures. He had tophat for participation - which was easier than the other prof who made you do reading quizzes. But his lectures felt very unstructured theselves. Fair tests (final was honestly reused questions from past exams) so study those. He's very kind and cares about students, just not the best teacher!
I found his lectures very unhelpful when it came to actually doing assignments and tests. Although he was excellent at explaining theory, I often felt completely left in the dust on assignments; which translated over to tests. I rarely ever used his notes, and instead sought 3rd party resources for learning course content.
Knows the content well but isn't great at conveying it. Lectures didn't make much sense, most of the course was learned on my own time or in labs. I've found physics in general to have bad lectures, where the profs are extremely intelligent but can't teach the material well.
He is an extremely caring professor, and I would definitely take a class with him again.
Great prof! Come to lecture. The textbook is great and he follows it closely but Abusara uses his class examples for the quizzes. Sometimes he doesn't even change around the answers, it could be directly from his slides, so follow along and know how to do everything, including the top hat questions.
Dr. Abusara is an amazing professor. He clearly knows what he is talking about and teaches very well. Although Physics 323 can be challenging for someone with a chemistry background, I still find the course enjoyable. There are three quizzes, and he thoughtfully added a fourth, allowing us to drop the lowest score. Homeworks take a long time!
Content of the course itself is quite difficult, but he explains it slowly and tries his best to ensure everyone understands. Can tell he wants students to do well. Puts in-class examples directly on quizzes to help.
A very caring proff, he really wants all his students to do well in the course and was very open to helping. His quizzes mirrored the lecture notes/examples. Although I found this course a little tricky since physics isnt my strong suit, I did way better then in 221 and 223 because of him. Even gave us a 4th quiz and let us drop our lowest grade.
Dr. Abusara really cares about his students and he wants to them to do good. He wants his students to be satisfied with their grades so he gives lots of opportunties for you to increase a quiz or exam grade. He is really caring and values the handwork that students put into his class, so if you genuinely show interest in his class you will succeed.
The professor cares about students, but the lectures can feel messy at times. Unstuck AI was really helpful for test prep alongside the textbook. Overall, a decent class if you stay engaged.
He is amazing. Not only did he work with students to make sure they passed and passed well, but he went above and beyond. This was a pretty test heavy class but after the first quiz the rest of the quizzes were easy, especially when we started doing tophat review for them by using old test questions that were just like the quiz. Take him for sure.
dr. abusara was not my professor for this course, but is currently the course coordinator and has organized this course very poorly. online assignments constantly had formatting issues which were not properly fixed, he often did not reply to emails, and many issues arose due to poor organization of the midterm exam. super unprofessional.
Dr. Abusara is one of the best if not THE best prof I've had! He cares for his students and always advocates for them. His lectures are engaging and his tests are super fair! He is very approachable after class and is always very nice & professional.
Dr. Abusara really cares about his students and he wants to them to do good. He gives lots of opportunities for you to increase your grade. He is really caring and approachable so if you genuinely show interest in his class you will succeed.
