This was her first time teaching chem and the lectures wern't that healpfull. If you just read the textbook you would be set for tests. Her tests are pretty easy if you study and she curves alot.
Her 1st time teaching and honestly shes a nice lady. Her lectures aren't mandatory but be sure to know when there's a test, don't miss one. If taking chem 103 i recommend the text book much of her lectures are the textbook alone. She provides her power-points on black board and there really good. Study for the 1st tests, outcome B and up.
She is a very nice lady but to be honest her lectures are bad, i mean you could sit in the front and still not understand a dam thing. I recommend studying on your own because if you just attend lectures you will fail miserably. Her test are fair, she grades fairly
She's very sweet and will offer help when needed. She knows what she's doing but she teaches a higher level of chemistry so its hard to simplify for people who are new to chemistry. If you do not understand then that is on your account not hers. Just do as many questions and examples for the exams and go to her for help.
The Professor is a nice lady who is helpful. You need to understand the topic and study in order to pass the exams. Her exams are fair. The textbook helps! Its a must have. I recommend going to tutoring if you are unable to understand the concepts being taught. Overall, you can either do really good or really bad.
Chemistry is a tough thing to begin with. She doesn't make it any easier. Useless and vague slides, you'll end up reading the book and teaching yourself. Her lectures are summaries. She doesn't actually teach the material. She gives a summary of the chapter and the subtitles within. Rushes. Half the class dropped, the other half is praying. Avoid.
she goes over the ppt slides as fast as possible, and class usually ends 20-30 min early. ask questions if you're confused, but most of the things covered can be found on wiki or the textbooks. not a great professor, i would not recommend
She is a good lady but her lectures are not that helpful . You can get some helps from your workshop but you need to STUDYING ON YOUR OWN most of the time in order to make sense of the lessons. Her homework are online and hard. Ready to study hard by your own if you take her.
she is a nice lady that you can ask questions in class, she will try to answer every questions. It is her first time teaching, therefore, her lecture was kind of confusing because she is only proving summaries of the chapters, in order to pass the class you HAVE TO read and study the textbook by yourself.
I learned chemistry from this class
Exams are fairly easy. Not a harsh grader. Attendance is not mandatory. you better shut up while she's teaching or she's gonna kick you out. Workshop helps better. I would take her again. Doesn't keep you for more than an hour...
TOUGH GRADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So terrible, if you care about your GPA pl just forgot her.
Her tests are fairly easy and she drops the lowest test. Her lectures are really boring, i learned mostly through workshop. She is available if you need help and she gives extensions for hw if you just ask.
Basically an easy A. Too many people are poorly prepared and slow things down for those of us who are actually trying to learn. But she is always patient with them, maybe too patient. Genius prof with a heart.
Terrible lecturer. She isn't harsh on grading, but tests are graded by TAs who graded quickly and inaccurately. She had to regrade an entire test because TAs messed up so badly. If you get a bad workshop teacher you're pretty much out of options. You're going to need to teach yourself from the book and a few online sources if you want to do well.
Best prof at City. Half the class is competing to work in her lab, the other half talks constantly in her lectures. Too easy to get a good grade
Very approachable for someone so famous. Knew every student's name the first day of class. A rare gem.
CCNY's scientific superstar. Makes chemistry fun.
Nonpareil Move over, Einstein!
Da best
Genius
If you;'re brain works you get an A. Very easy A.
Best chemistry professor at CCNY. Exciting to learn from a scientific superstar. Not a harsh grader at all.
It is a very easy A. Basically this class is just a repeat of 8th grade science. You can sleep and skip class and still get A every time.
The top students work really hard because everyone wants to work in her lab but it is still a very easy A
Very easy A. Just a repeat of high school chem. Awesome lectures.
Dr Bu's great lectures make the course easy and FUN! Great sense of humor, lots of jokes and cartoons on slides.
If you want to learn chemistry go the other way. Her test are on the easier side, and she is a genuine person. HOWEVER, she isn't the best lecturer, i had to attend other professors lecture. Take her as a last resort
Only people who miss the A are the ones who skip workshops. Lectures are crystal.
She's not that great of a professor honestly. She goes through the notes slide by slide and not summarize the important info covered on tests. You would be lucky to have a good workshop leader like me who could slowly go over hard topics. Also don't annoy her during class or you could get called out and kicked out
It's ridiculously easy to get an A in her class. Not because she's a great professor, but because her grading scale is very fair. 3 EASY midterms & drops 1 (35%) Final 40% Homework 5% Lab 15% workshop 5% Attendance is also not mandatory(Don't go, you won't learn). Overall, I suggest you do a decent amount of independent studying and you'll be fine
No study no read easy A best prof
Class isn't mandatory, but if you don't go to lectures, you won't learn. Basically a repeat of high school chemistry. Ultra-easy class. Too many people talk during lectures, she should kick them out because they spoil it for the serious students.
she doesn't teach anything. If you take her expect yourself learn chemistry by yourself. her test are easy, just get her past test and practice it. Her lecture suck, and not necessary and useless. If you have a good workshop leader you might learn something otherwise it is useless. Her TA's mess up grading the test all the time.
She is not a good lecturer at all; she gets confused and is poor at conveying concepts. Reads off the board so lectures are pointless. You must teach yourself and hope for an excellent workshop leader. Her tests are much easier than those of other professors, but her TAs always grade incorrectly. She's not the worst, but definitely not the best.
Remedial chemistry for those who dropped out of high school. Easiest A there is
poor presenter but she goes over key concepts. you won't walk out knowing material - you need to study & do homework. as of fall 2015 she was extremely tied up in lab work so you wont necessarily build a relationship with her if you're visiting office hours. overall, easy A & she means well but she makes it extremely boring. ***drops lowest midterm
Top course on neutron scattering. Even professors show up.
Brilliant lecturer
Tip Top
Lectures are very boring- don't need to attend. Attend workshops and lab. If you get lucky with your workshop instructor and lab TA, it's an easy A. My workshop leader essentially taught us everything (edward you're the best) and how to do problems. Bring difficult HW to your recitation if you have trouble with it. Otherwise, study the textbook.
True genius at work. Everyone wants to work in her lab.
just dont like her class because she reads almost everything off of lecture notes MAKING THE CLASS EXTREMELY BORING
Her midterms are easier than other professors. But the class is extremely boring.
Great lectures. Dr Bu teaches to the whole class, not just the top ones. If she has any fault, is that she should be stricter with the lazybones. But everyone wants to do well and work in her lab.
She does not teach well, her presentation needs to be improve! I would not recommend anyone to take her class unless you can teach yourself!
She is a good professor but she must improve her presentation skill.
Wash glassware for extra credit
Almost everything if not everything is based off of lecture notes, making the class completely boring. Her tests are not difficult to pass, if only u have a personal method of studying new topics. However, she has a great personality if approached.
Challenging subject. Not for the slothful
Makes a hard subject understandable.
great lecturer and willing to help, caring, will open up over dues homework (if u have skipped 1 or 2), will give you all the chapters' slides in cuny bb, and those are helpful. She believes in order to succeed, students have to attain class, read the chapter prior to class (she will inform) nd slides in bb after attaining the class, don't miss hw
her form of teaching is quite boring which makes lectures difficult. However, if you study on your own, an A should be easy to come by. DO NOT DROP THE CLASS BCUZ THE FINALS ARE EASYY.
Dr Bu has a witty style of lecturing that makes even a dull subject like chemistry a lot of fun. Very accessible outside of class. Lots of people hang around her lab all day and everyone wants to get a job in her lab.
Famous professor on TV all the time. Still talks to students hanging around her lab all day trying to get job in her lab. BE famous TOO
The best chem prof. Lectures are clear and easy to understand. Never need the textbook. Just remember high school chem.
Really neat lectures.
CUNY's celebrity super scientist. Even with all the TV cameras around still very accessible to all.
No need to stress. She is kinda boring but her lecture slides are from the textbook. Take notes and go to recitation and do the homework questions. Its an easy A from there. Her tests are easy. The final is harder. But you still should practice cause she does throw curve ball on the short response parts of the exams
Clearly the best professor at CCNY. Lectures are crystal, and it's a thrill to learn from someone so famous. Everyone competing for working in her lab.
Her class was so boring. I don't know how I survived her lectures because all she did was read from the slides with her monotoned voice. But other than that, her tests weren't too difficult. Just remember that you have to do a lot of self-studying because her lectures weren't really helpful.
Wow. Amazing prof
Very good for premed and pharma people. Real-word oriented class.
Her lectures were boring & shes not good at answering questions. I had to teach myself chemistry this semester. You'll pass if you have a good recitation leader, do the homework, and read the slides. The tests aren't hard and the final uses the same format every year, so study old ones. She's not the worst there is but shes not that great either.
Lectures are actually FUN because of her witty style. She is Generous with grade. Easy A
Good professional service
Premed students want to work in her lab
good prof especully for City
She's an okay professor, just reads off the slide a lot during her lectures. You have to do a lot of self-studying to fully understand the material. Her tests are not difficult if you study and nothing is unexpected.
Shes very nice and smart
World class expert. CCNYs resident genius
Arguably the best professor at CCNY, certainly in the science departments. Has amazing credentials from running a lab. Exams are hard but fair - don't focus on memorizing details, but instead on why things are set up the way they are and how they change under different conditions. Generous office hours and extra credit, too.
She is good, take her. drops the lowest midterm and the last midterm is the easiest. Gave her own final. It is very doable to get an A in this class
Nonpareil. CCNYs genius
Great lecturer. Show up for 7 am breakfast review sessions. She made pancakes. Thats how you get your A.
The best prof!!
Very good professor! Teaches you everything, patiently explains.
Caring helpful kind spends hours tutoring
She posts her lecture slides on blackboard so going to lecture isn't necessary. Very nice professor and very accessible even though she's a busy one! Very caring. Three midterms and she drops the lowest. Made her own final for my year and it wasn't so bad (all multiple choice)
Probably the best professor in the Chemistry department if not the whole science division. A real star. Care of you even though shes so busy.
Professor is really great!
The best chemistry professor at City. Genius and really works hard at teaching well.
Professor Bu's class is not too hard to get an A in. Her exams are simple and straightforward, and the final for Fall 2018 was all multiple choice and she made it herself. She posts her slides on blackboard, so attendance doesn't matter. I almost failed b/c Chem isn't easy for me, but I managed to get a good score because of how easy the final was.
The best
Smartest professor ever. Her students all do well
Now we see with NSE! Great class.
Learn neutron spin echo from a giant in the field. No wonder she got the best students.
Wow! NSE was the most delicious!
Everything is on ALEKS. Exams , extra credit, and final. Just do the ALEKS work and you're fine. Format is the same for all. Studying is important as well, take notes when completing ALEKS. Attendance matters for recitation. There are five labs to complete.
her finals was 40 questions that were mostly math heavy that had to be done in 2h 15 min, which is 3.375 min a question This semester, which was fully online, she wasn't accessible outside of class AT ALL. You couldn't get a hold of her unless a lot of students mass emailed her, but she did give extensions to ALEKS homework a lot so thats a plus.
She reads off of the slides for lecture but she goes into depth and explains the topics more using examples and solving those examples. We do get a lot of homework on Aleks but it is so worth it, as long as you do well on the homework assignment you will do well on the exams and final. She gives two attempts for each exam. Make sure to work hard!
Her lectures are great and easy to understand. Participation doesn't matter as much as ALEKS for homework. Make sure to stay on top of due dates in ALEKS because they may be adjusted frequently based on class progress. Exams are also based on ALEKS. For lab, some modules are confusing to do alone so email TAs if necessary!
She is decent. She always reads off the slides however easy to understand and chem 1 isn't a hard class anyway. No quiz and she gives two tries for every test. She is quite helpful too. Aleks is where u do all ur hw and test, a little picky with sigfigs and answering format but with time you adjust with Aleks and it becomes very helpful.
I was nervous about taking chem 1 thinking it's hard but professor Bu made it really easy. She is a very nice and caring professor. Those who complained about the class probably never tried and are lazy. There are 3 exams and aleks homework. Aleks can be annoying but it is helpful. Take Professor Bu and you will not regret it!!
Professor Bu's class was nice. Her lectures were very informative. She has good knowledge about this subject. Best thing is you have 3 exams but she drops one of the lowest one. You do have a lot of Aleks hw but it's do able since you have a lot of helpful resources. I would rec to take notes from Aleks. Overall, she is great.
I didn't pay attention during class, but i could tell she knows what she's doing and she explains concepts well. hw tests and final was on ALEKS, so it's very predictable. Once you master the hw, you master the test and final they're basically the same questions but diff numbers. Easy class.
10/10 amazing professor. I wasn't sure if I was ready for chem but she made it so much easier & not too stressful. Don't get me wrong you gotta work for it though. Aleks is most of the grade, 2/3 exams count - lowest one gets dropped, & final. All are on ALEKS.
A caring and nice Professor, she really thinks of her students makes the study understandable in a short amount of time. She drops 1 bad midterm out of 3. Most of the stuff happens in "ALeks", but it's worth it since, it prepares us for the exam. If you are uncertain about Chem1 definitely take her.
She is not a good professor, I will never take her again and I advise everyone else to do the same. She will tell you one thing and say another.
Tests are very easy, there are three midterms and one is dropped, and each test gives you a second attempt. Stay on top of ALEKs and the exams will be easy 100s. The lecture doesn't really seem to help since I barely attended and got out with an A. MAKE SURE TO GO TO RECITATION, it's an actual grade.
There are 3 exams and they are all on ALEKS. Only the top 2 are counted. Make sure to stay on top of the homework. The lecture was useless I stopped attending after the first month of class. Attend recitation because attendance for that counts on your grade and you'll learn more there. For finals, just study past finals it's all the same.
Excellent professor and has very reasonable grading criteria. She answered emails quickly, and overall was the first professor to make me love chemistry
no point of having a lecture teacher because she talks in a very droning voice and that makes it hard comprehend anything she says she also yells when students are loud there are calmer ways to address students, yelling signifies to me that you don't see students as adult humans because you wouldn't yell at a colleague like that.
TAKE HERRRRRRRR exams are on aleks and you have two chances if you mess up a question. She genuinely wants you to do good. Live love and breathe aleks and you will do great
Great Professor.
