One of the best psy. prof's I've ever had. Very knowledgeable of what she is teaching. Makes lectures fun. Young and relatable. iclicker questions count as your participation. Doesn't require a textbook, but assigns readings online. Only has one midterm and a final and chances for extra credit. Only homework is the readings online. recommend!!
She's a very inexperienced lecturer and you can tell. Her lectures are a little choppy and sometimes she seems a little nervous, but her slides are good and she's interesting. She seems very nice, I was under-impressed by her as a lecturer, but I'd love to take a seminar class from her or work on her research.
Professor Liberman's test were some of the most confusing tests I've taken during my time as a psychology major. Her lectures were all over the place, and heavily focused on HER OWN studies. I previously took a lower div develop. psych class that was MUCH more informative than hers ever was. If you can, take this with a different professor.
For it being her first time teaching, I thought she did very well. She was passionate and she wanted to make sure you understood. The test weren't too bad, you had to form connections, not just remember facts. I enjoyed the class very much.
Zoe is really sweet and did a great job for her first quarter! She is very helpful in office hours and she works hard to make lectures interesting! The class is designed around the main concepts and theories and drawing connections between them rather than memorizing. The extra credit and participation points lighten the load.
Zoe is incredibly knowledgable and is able to answer any question very clearly which I appreciated. She does talk the ENITRE class time, so it can be hard to stay focused. You get participation and extra credit with iClickers. Overall average of the class fall 2016 was B-. No textbook, sometimes adds extra material off-slide so go to class!
She displayed a style of teaching did not work for me at all. She went through slides extremely fast and did not thoroughly explain concepts. The tests were worded very confusingly and the answers were worded very similar. I was really hoping this class would be beneficial towards my future, but instead this class has left me feeling unprepared.
She did not make this class easy/enjoyable. Her midterm and final were worded very poorly (confusing, options longer than the question). Talked very fast. Hard to follow. She expected us to remember things she mentioned in passing. She said she would curve the class and went back on her word when grades were due. I would not recommend taking her.
She is a sweet professor, but the class itself was okay. She talked a bit too fast and her midterm/final were quite confusing. It took me longer to figure out what she was asking than actually choosing an answer. I was disappointed by this class. Wouldn't recommend.
She spoke really fast in class so I HAD to record her lectures and re-listen! until she sent out an email saying that we weren't allowed to? Still did anyways. Didn't do well in the class because her tests were SO CONFUSING! If you tend to overthink questions like me, you'll end up failing no matter how much you study and understand the material.
lecture material was actually pretty easy. The hard part of the course were the tests. Questions were sometimes a whole paragraph or two long and extremely confusing. Answer choices were really similar sometimes. Its weird because you think you studied great but the test is just not well written and will screw you over.
Serious/caring. Strong passion. Much knowledge. Simple sometimes fun lectures. Print out lectures before and fill in with what she says and some stuff she leaves off PDF slides. THOSE TESTS THO. Each Q&A was a novel. AND If you're not understanding the concepts: office hours. Don't whine abt lectures. Didn't lie abt curve- we didn't need one ^^avg.
Liberman was a good prof overall. However, she did spend a lot of time on some things that weren't particularly relevant when it came to the actual exams. Her class was interesting, and she is clearly passionate about the subject. In order to do well in her class you HAVE to study. Her wording on exams requires careful examination.
Easy to follow lectures. Take good notes on each slide, study them not to details but to understanding, ask her in office hours what you don't understand, and you'll get an A.
Have to go to class and take detailed notes, there's no other way to pass. Prob easier if ur interested in the material. Tests were hard but not impossible. She basically introduces a concept and gives two studies, one that suggests that the cause is nature and one that suggests it's nurture. If you organize ur info like that it's a doable class.
Worst professor I've had so far. She doesn't have a book so go to class. Her grading system was more confusing than her lectures. She said she would curve twice and ended up changing her mind last minute. Very unorganized. Her exam questions were a paragraph long and each answer was even longer. Unreasonably long and confusing.
I'm typically a really good student. Took this class w/a few friends and we all agree that this was such an unnecessarily hard class. Tests are ridiculous. Information way too specific on tests. Basically need to know every point possible. Be prepared to spend all ur time on this class. Lecture slides unclear. iclicker attendance. Rude in person.
I absolutely LOVED the class and didn't find it too difficult. Yes, the tests are tricky but as long as you read the questions carefully and know the studies really well, you'll do well! Don't take this class and expect an A if you plan on studying the bare minimum. Going to class is important because the slides don't have all the details you need!
Stay away at all cost this class can ruin your life... Im a great student & i always get A & Bs in my test... but her test are highly unorganized, theres spelling errors, and all questions are trick questions... stay away
Be prepared to spend the whole quarter learning about babies. She is very unorganized, is kind of rude to students, likes trick questions, isnt helpful and frankly I wish I couldve dropped the class. Spare yourself the hassle.
Be prepared to not have the necessary tools you need in this class to pass. She is not very approachable or good at creating a discussion setting within the class. The lack of textbook, vague slideshows, and little to no new information in lectures. Her tests are awful as they have too many trick questions that cannot be justified for a bad teacher
I entered this class hopeful and bright eyed and over the course of the quarter left disappointed and upset. Unnecessarily lengthy test questions meant to trick and confuse you. No textbook, meaning all lecture/slide material which is not nearly clear or specific enough. Saw her multiple times be rude, haughty and condescending to students. AVOID!
Her tests are entirely based on lectures, and the questions are worded in the most confusing way possible. But she bumps your whole grade by 4.5% if you just go to class. And there is a midterm retake opportunity. It's not impossible to do well in her class, but If you want an easier A definitely take the class with a different professor.
Dont do it, just wait for another professor to teach this class.
Exams are rough. She is not the warmest or friendliest during office hours. She encourages people attend office hours but she isn't very helpful.
Easy class if you study. Tests are solely based on the lectures so just go to class to watch the example videos and study the lecture notes.
I wish she provided a textbook to go along with her lectures. Due to the fast-paced nature of her lectures, it was difficult to keep up and not having a textbook caused many students to do poorly on her exams. Exams were way too confusing and long. I hope she changes her testing style and provides more material for future students.
Liberman was amazing! If you show up to class and take detailed notes on what she says not what is on her slides you'll do well. Her tests are a little tricky and focus on the studies she goes over. It did not take a lot of outside work to do well in the class. Interesting course material made it one of my favorite classes at UCSB.
Her lectures are too simplified or vague to be relevant for her exams. Per say, her exams are VERY TRICKY so form study groups, attend CLAS, or just find any resource you can. Otherwise, drop her course, wait for another professor because her lecture heavy style of teaching is not cutting it.
if you attend lecture and pay attention this class is not hard to pass. Zoe gives you plenty of opportunity to get a good grade. She gives extra credit Iclicker points and lets you retake the midterm if you didnt do well. Her lectures are engaging and she uses videos to make things more clear
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! I do not understand these negative ratings, Zoey really cares about the students and takes the time to answer questions every lecture. The class is very easy if you take notes and study them. You can tell she just wants to teach students and help them. Her lectures are clear, simple, and interesting!
A solid choice for a psychology professor. She knows her stuff and on top of this class being easy in terms of information given, she presents it in a way where you can just study your notes and get a good grade. Midterm + final and offers extra credit from just going to class. *going to class is necessary as ALL questions on tests are from lecture
This class was super interesting! The lectures are easy to follow and the professor is very engaging. Test material comes straight from the lectures and you can get extra credit everyday as long as you bring an iClicker to class. Assignments include participating in online surveys that take about 10 mins to complete.
Liberman is so nice and informative, she really is just so knowledgeable. You don't need a textbook for the course and the exams are a little rough. But, if you take your time when reading them and really study the material from lecture, they're really not that bad. Iclicker participation counts for points too which really boost the end grades!
She is very inviting to attend office hours but is not very friendly, warm, or open to questions. She came off cold and standoffish. She's really smart but gets frustrated when students ask fair questions in class.
I really don't understand all these bad ratings... I loved this class so much! I paid attention in lecture and wrote good notes, studied the night before and easily got an A in the class. Dr. Liberman is a little standoffish BUT she is really smart/explains things really well and seems to really care about students doing well
She gives tons of extra credit and her tests are very fair and not cumulative. Her lectures are fun and she includes interesting at home activities and fun iClicker questions and she includes some informative videos too. The classes averages were around 75-85 for both the final and the midterm and you got to retake the midterm.
Dont miss class if you want to pass. The whole grade is based on the midterm and final with a chance to retake the midterm. Exams are based on lecture and readings she provides. Study study study. Failed the class the first time I took it and got a c- the second time.
If you go to lecture and take good notes on what she's saying rather than copying the slide, you'll get an A. She shows a lot of videos in lecture, which makes lecture feel short. Take note on what happens in these videos! She lets you retake the midterm as well. I don't understand the bad reviews; she truly knows her stuff and how to teach it!
Dr. Liberman is a very kind, knowledgable, & helpful professor. It's obvious she wants everyone to do well- she gives you 5% of your final grade solely from extra credit points (lecture iClicker participation) & you're even allowed to retake the first exam for a better score. No textbook reading, interesting lectures and overall great prof!
This class was great, despite some bad reviews on here. Zoe is a very clear lecturer, and the iclicker was a great help bc it raised my grade by 2% overall. If you go to all the lectures, do the iclicker, and review the lecture slides before the exams, youll do fine! It also helped me to annotate the slides as she talked through them.
I do not understand all these bad reviews! Professor Liberman is a very clear lecturer, she explains things well, and her slides are straight forward. She gives extra credit for iclickers and lets you retake the midterm. The lowest grade I got on a test was a 98%. If you study and go to class, getting an A is TOTALLY doable.
Her test questions are unreasonably difficult. It seems like she phrased them badly on purpose. Also extremely rude over email but is somewhat nicer in person. Would never take again.
Dr. Liberman is a great professor, she is really passionate about the material and is a good lecturer. She shows lots of videos and gives lots of examples making the class easier. Attendance is via iClicker and is for extra credit. She also posts all her slides online and the reading is just research articles. Loved the class!
I quite liked her, very straightforwards and lectures were engaging. Lots of cute videos. Pretty easy honestly, with some extra credit available, but 95% of your grade is midterm + final so there's not much hw to boost your grade. No curve because of the extra credit but you probably won't need it.
Meh. Whole class grade based on two tests. You can retake the midterm which is the only real good thing about this class. Handled COVID poorly, no leniency or sympathy for the students which is funny coming from a psych teacher.
I really liked her, her lectures were engaging and the tests were quite reasonable. I literally forgot about her midterm and entered with no prep and it was fine, her lectures cover pretty much all the relevant material so if you show up and take decent notes you'll be ok!
I'm not sure why her rating is so low, I personally enjoyed her class the concepts were very interesting. Honestly just go to class and put in the effort to study and you'll get an A. Grades were mainly based on one midterm and one final. It also had some online surveys and clickers for a small part of the grade.
She was not very helpful during office hours. She can be kinda cold and kinda seemed to annoyed to have office hours.
She really gave us a midterm on election day despite knowing the stress everyone is going through...........
She's followed by Obama on Twitter but I bet that if Obama met her in real life he would unfollow her. Professor Liberman is not empathetic nor understanding that students may be going through struggles during a pandemic. She's not accessible and she clearly writes in her syllabus that you can not email her and if you do she will not respond.
The Prof made a great transition to online class. This class is fascinating, w lots of interesting videos in lectures and concepts that were explained very well. This class was so interesting for any1 interested in psychology. She seems like a really good person too, someone Id be friends with! Favorite class Ive ever taken at UCSB
This class was deceivingly hard simply because Liberman's test questions can be complex and confusing. You gotta thoroughly know the exact studies and their implications that are mentioned in the lectures. There's no textbook, but a few interesting papers that you'll go through. She's really nice, but the tests are difficult and closed-note.
Zoe is the worst Psychology teacher I have encountered in my three years at UCSB; apart from Erin Horowitz. Her tests are riddled with tricky wording and pedant details. She is immensely un-empathetic toward students and is clearly here for research. I don't know why these people are rating her positively, because she is truly a TERRIBLE teacher.
You will never want to take her class
Easy and interesting material, but tests are full of tricky questions. Not super accommodating to students.
Tough grader and please don't take this course EVER
Almost never reply to email and really rude
I mean this is seriously the worst grade I ever had not trying to show off. And this prof does not even round up the grades which is really confusing. She seems like really nice to give extra 1% which actually doesnt help at all.
TOO MUCH WRITING ASSIGNMENTS FOR A PSYCH CLASS!!!! SHE AND THE TA RARELY REPLY TO EMAIL ON TIME. AND NOT REALLY HELPFUL
She made my WORST experience at UCSB. Thanks to her that I finally know how bad a prof can be. Really not accessible, unfriendly, not empathetic at all, and like a robot.
2 is best i can give
She's such a sweet person! The class was mainly lectures and article readings s it was easy to keep up with. Every lecture has a dog video and she really knows what she's talking about.
Professor Liberman awesome! Her tests are kind of hard but so long as you read and understand the research papers assigned, you should be able to pass with a C. The wording is somewhat tricky/confusing but not enough to make you fail. Her lectures were interesting and she is very passionate about what she teaches.
Not sure why she has so many 1/5 reviews, but this professor for Psy105 was honestly the best I can ask for. I only attended class twice (1x for mt, 1x for final) because she uploads previous year lecture videos online. Extremely fair grading criteria, easy tests, don't even have to show up and great lecturer. Would take again any day of the year.
I am really unsure why she has so many 1 star reviews. This class is very easy to be completely honest. As long as you go to lecture you do not have to do the article readings because she goes over the study in class. The tests a very easy as long as you listen in lecture. I would take it again if I could super easy, loved the format! Great class!
I genuinely can't comprehend why she has so many bad ratings - this class was super interesting and fairly easy! Professor Liberman's lectures are concise and keep you engaged throughout the class period. She is always available for help outside of class and clearly explains her expectations for assignments. The tests were also not too difficult!
Prof. Liberman is good! Use lectures and previous quizzes to study for exams, skimming through studies is helpful too. Her grading system is nicely balanced. Some people say she's 'like a robot' (That's rude) - she may be a bit shy, but she is super accessible and will definitely throw you a bone if you ask for one kindly!
Dr. Liberman is a very kind, if research-oriented, professor. Her lectures are information heavy, but most of the work is straightforward and based solely on completion/has infinite attempts. Only one writing assignment is graded for quality, and if you tried on the practices, the real one is simple. Keep an eye out for "NOT" questions on exams!
Good professor, her ratings should be higher. Class structure was simple and easy. 2 exams and a graded article summary. All the other assignments are gimmes. Overall, a fun course, would recommend!
Solid class! Dr. Liberman knows her stuff and her lectures were fun and interesting. This was the only class of the quarter that I actually looked forward to going to every day! Grading is fair overall, and exams are very doable if you study.
Pleasant voice, easy lectures, organized, 1Midterm18%, ArticleReview19%, Final23%, participation w unlimited attempt quiz/DB. I got high B's on both tests and was able to pull an A. 2 short readings/week. Past lectures posted. Tests in person. Article summ. graded harder than should. Screenshot rubric frm practice review(disappears) for graded one.
Very interesting and interactive lectures. Genuinely enjoyed the class and thought her exams were reasonable. Her grading percentages were very fair and didn't completely rely on just exams.
Honestly I wonder if this class has changed significantly since these negative reviews, because the class is good now. Fair exams, two writing assignments, good lectures- and she seemed nice when I talked to her. Though I didn't really have any real issues or to go office hours, so take that with a grain of salt. No textbook, just studies to read.
Super easy class imo, really interesting lectures and clearly very passionate about her work. You can take the quizzes until you get 100% and 2/3 writing assignments are graded only on completion. Highly recommend for psych.
Incredibly difficult professor to deal with. The class itself is fair, however, if you have any issues and have proper documentation of it she is absolutely awful to deal with. She is incredibly rude and does not understand even when you repeatedly try to explain. Does not respond to emails in a timely manner and when she does shes pretty rude.
Honestly, she is a very inconsiderate, unkind professor. Will not listen to your situations even though they are valid, and grades the article summary incredibly harshly (it's 20% of our grade!). While the material itself is straightforward, I would not recommend this professor to anyone
Professor Liberman is an awesome lecturer, people are rating poorly bc of their grade on the article summary, I turned mine late and got a good grade despite the points knocked. You have to practice, graded for completioin article summaries, if you actually try on those assignments, and revise, you should have no problem. Tests are fairly easy.
Literally awful to deal with. Good class tho
Great professor and her lectures are so interesting, I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. As long as you go to lectures, it's an easy A. There are weekly readings but I never did them and still found both exams to be pretty easy. There are also three article summaries but you get full credit for two of them just by turning something in.
I think her lectures and slides were extremely interesting and I learned a ton from the weekly articles. The article summary was graded really hard but other than that, the tests were fair and the weekly quizzes are unlimited attempts. If you really study the lectures and articles, you will do fine on exams. The professor seems sweet too!
Love this professor and this class. Lectures, quizzes, and exams were very well structured. As long as you understand the experiments and what they mean, you will do fine on the exams. The only complaint I have is that the article summary was graded super hard, but other than that I loved PSY 105 with Liberman.
Really interesting lectures and content that was organized pretty well. Make sure to understand the experiments covered in lecture in addition to the other material. Exams were straightforward.
She gives good, clear lectures with interesting content. She explains the content in words, videos, and graphs which is helpful. She had videos of old lectures on Canvas if you miss a class. Very strict about her no late work policy.
Liberman is the most fair professor at this university- especially within the PBS department. She structures her class into 3 different grade paths- you can either heavily rely on tests, rely mostly on tests and some ELI/Discussion posts, or do a "more" project so your tests count as less of your grade. Her tests are SO fair, & she is so respected.
Well she is a professor that shouldnt be teaching for starters. Second she does not teach nor offer review that will cover the exam. Not to mention if you have a family member passing she will still offer you the same opportunity as the students who decided to skip the exam resulting in lower scores. Probably the worst professor from a transfer
Yeah ngl, this prof was ahhhh. That is putting it nicely. She does not teach nor lecture emphasis of matters but as me and other students have experienced is that she treats us like we are inept when trying to ask simple questions. Avoid her like the black plague despite her lab
extremely comical knowing my dad died this quarter and i asked for a retest, even though rescheduling is in my DSP accomodations and then gives me the same exam as students who opted to just not show up. Don't worry she told me to this post lecture that they were allowed the same opportunity for being lazy even though the syllabus says diff lmao
This class was fairly easy but be careful bc tests weigh pretty heavy as everything else (weekly discussion posts/quizzes/ELI reviews) are only participation based. Lecture isn't mandatory but if you go and take notes/pay attention you'll be fine bc they set you up well for tests. She has lecture videos from past years also so you can catch up.
Genuinely interesting class. Gave 3 different options for weighting tests and participation. Article summary and discussion are graded on completion, tests are straight-forward and cover everything in slides. Didn't go to class, just watched old recorded lectures. Advice: Note key ideas + findings AND differences for AGES + exceptions.
She's amazing. I can't begin to explain how grateful I was that all of the assignments were so clear and all perfectly coordinated. The quizzes/summaries/discussion posts are all graded on participation, but doing them will help you so much on the exams. Go to class and you'll do great!
had her last quarter and her lectures were super fun (often showed videos of her kids doing a task related to the course content). very clear and flexible grading guidelines (3 different options for grading based on what assignments u complete).
Amazing professor. Going to lecture is extremely important because the slides alone do not provide enough information by themselves. One of the most interesting and meaningful classes I've taken so far.
My favorite class so far! The lectures were super interesting and they help you understand the experiments that are on the tests. There were weekly quizzes and discussions, and three ELI reviews. Definitely recommend this professor!
She was great. You need to attend lecture to understand her slides but if you pay attention everything makes sense. I enjoyed her class a lot.
One of my favorite professors ever. She is so passionate and explains concept in a really digestible way. She allows you to retake weekly quizzes until you pass and has a few reflection papers you write on dev. psych studies. Wish I went to office hours more and got to know her more.
