She loves history I mean loves it...but what is cool is she knows little details that are not in the books...I found her very interesting and I could say I learned alot of history from her...She is good I would recommend her to anyone
Loves what she does and communicates well with her students. Great teacher, able to hold class attention through the entire class period. highly recommend. 4 or 5 tests, 1 paper.
She is a great teacher and the class is not hard to follow all you have to do is Read the chapters but other than that she is a great teacher.
Best History teacher EVER. She is interesting and helpful. There's no homework, just four or five tests and a paper. I didn't write the paper which was worth 20 % and I still made a 76 in the class. Seriously, Best history teacher EVER.
Very nice, funny, and all we do is take simple and short notes, she loves to tell interesting stories and i like to listen. She's more interested in the "story" part of history than wars and military. Fun class
I took the distance summer course. All we had to do was read the chapters and take five 30 question multiple choice tests. She gives you review notes and the textbook has a companion website with study help. The only issue I had was many times some of the test questions were not covered in the reading required for that test.
I wouldn't suggest taking a distance class with her. The tests aren't always just over the required reading and without a lecture or discussion of some sort it's very difficult to know the answers.
this professor is very very knowledgable on what she teaches. although she doesnt make it very interesting shes very good at what she does!
I took her course distance learning. Lots and lots of reading. The study guide that she gives, covers the test. Extremely easy if you just read.
I really don't like this class, we don't even go through the book and her notes from her powerpoint don't even makes sense to me most of the time. She mostly talks and I can't understand her. I had to read the book and teach myself to pass the class.
This professor is the best, if you just read the text book and study her notes that she gives are very helpfullll. If you have any questions she can help you. She is very nice. this class is an easy A.
Took the class online. There's alot of reading as in most history classes, but I enjoyed most of the material. As long as you fill out the review and study it, you will do fine on all the tests. The Professor is also very helpful when you email her.
Just want to say this professor is AWESOME and very easy to pass!!! just read the book and review her notes.
I took the online course and I think she is awesome.Very responsive to emails and the syllabus is crystal clear. You choose what grade you get. Tests are easy if you use the reviews and study.Book Review or Research paper...you choose. I work full time and am a full time student and this class was a breeze.
Online Class requires lots of reading but if you can get through the material and fill out the study guide you will pass the test with flying colors. 5 tests, if you want an A you must write a 7 page research paper...Overall, I would recommend this prof for HIST 1301 online.
Amazing teacher. You can really tell that she loves history.
She is a great teacher. Very clear with her lectures. Tests cover everything she discusses.
I absolutely LOVED this proffesor. She literally tells you whats going to be on the test so you don't have to waste time studying things that won't show up. Tests include a map, multiple choice and an essay, which are all relatively easy. The book review is kindof tough, but nothing too bad. Highly recommend her, she's AWESOME. :)
She was the best professor EVER! i loved her and will be FOR SURE taking her again for Hist II. she is so clear on whats going to be on the test and doesn't trick you or confuse you. She allows you to retake the test which is super useful. ms. vansandt is the best there is, highly recommend her!!
Second session summer class was very fast-paced with all the reading. Long study guides, but you will do well on the test if you do them. Con: You HAVE to write a research paper to make an A in the class (even with an A average on tests). Very tedious instructions for the research paper so don't procrastinate if you choose to write a paper.
Took the DIL class and now will never take another one, especially in 8 weeks. Tests are tricky especially with an open ended study guide and multiple choice tests. Textbook is excellent for DIL. She responds to emails quickly and will answers questions over the SG.My gripe is that for a DIL class, tests were too tricky and only way for A is paper.
8 week DIL course. If you use the study guides, most of the test comes right from it, however there are a few that come out of left field & when your tests are only 30 questions that can lower your grade easily. Study guides can take a while to do. Overall I would recommend if you want an easy, no nonsense history class. Must write a paper for A
She does not work with you if you need help. You are basically on your own. The way she presents the information via PowerPoint is pretty bland and boring.
She basically gives you the answers to the test through her powerpoints. You have to be on top of your game taking notes and most students dont know that the sylabus is what gives you the questions and the powerpoints give you the answer. She isn't very clear with what she wants and makes things confusing. She was an alright professor.
This is a real straight forward class. While attendance isn't mandatory, per se, I'd recommend you never miss it. You can make A's on every test if you take good notes during her lecture/power point. The only difficult part of the course was the book report, which she graded tough, in my opinion. Overall it's just 4 tests and the report. Each 20%.
Every thing on the notes is on the test.
Great instructor for Distance Learning. Never read the book, only answered questions on study guide and received an A. Wrote the research paper, and she replied promptly and it was accepted. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
I took the HIST 1302 Distance Learning course online. I thought the tests were very easy (30M/C x 5 tests) and the questions are directly from the study guides she gives you. I only needed to get a test average of 70 to pass the course and receive credit, so I didn't write a paper. She was very helpful on the rare occasion that I contacted her.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Easy distance learning. Study guides super straight forward and directly correlates with the test. Promptly replies to emails. Easy A.
Great online professor! Study guides are easy and match up with the test. When writing my research paper, she helped with narrowing my topic. Got an A and I'm in high school.
I agree with the HS student, Professor VanSandt is very helpful and easy going. I'm going to take Hist II with her and do highly recommend her. You won't regret it!!
She is very enthusiastic and she gives good advice if you need help.
HEAVY textbook use. Makes your life easier if you get the e-book so you can copy and paste info into the study guide. Tests match up pretty closely to the study guide. Easy class, she grades the A papers very generously
Must use textbook, makes your life easier if you get the e-book since you can just copy and paste the answers into the study guide. Tests are almost identical to the study guides. Very generous grading of A paper. TL;DR TAKE HER, EASY A.
She explains her lessons well. She also provides time for questions at the end of each section.I highly recommend her as a History teacher.
I love VanSandt! She has a passion for history and has a way of rubbing it off onto her class. There's no homework, just test grades and one essay. The essay is super easy- it took me 1 day to write and I got a 100. I would love to take her again!
Very helpful. Will help you out wherever you need it. If you don't make an 80 on first test, you can retest. She'll go over your review to see if you've answered the questions right. Research paper required for A, book review required for B. Great class. Great prof!
Do the Study Guide and you'll get a B. You have to write a book report or Paper to get an A, which is pretty lame. But I'll take a B given how busy my semester was with other courses. You can finish the Class early too if you just do the guides and she allows retests 3 days after deadline
Professor was not really helpful with understanding her objectives or the report we were given for the book we read. I won't be taking her class again.
VanSandt is very nice, soft spoken prof. Lectures can be a bit monotone, but they are all PP so they are easy to follow. No test reviews. Each test inc a 5 paragraph essay worth 20pts that she gives an outline for the previous class. One book review. Pay attention during class, read the text. She is willing to help & is very nice. Attendance is EC
This professor is super helpful and responds fast to emails! If you do the study guides you can get a B. If you write a research paper then you can get an A which I strongly suggest. She will let you revise it to get an A! TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
This professor is very clear. Her lectures are filled with fun facts so although they are interesting, take important and informative notes only! She doesn't include fun facts on her tests usually. I took a 16 week course with 4 tests. Basic studying will definetley help. Stick to her reviews. Counts attendance as possible extra credit!
Beyond ridiculous! Could not stand going to the class. It was incredibly boring and never felt like anything I learned ever appeared on the test. Will talk about a LOT of women's rights and stuff regarding women that is not on the test. Stay far away front this teacher! I seriously have no idea where the good reviews are coming from or who they had
VanSandt's lecture printouts are only an outline of the book info, so you need to pay attention in class andor read the book for further explanation. Test questions are tricky, so make sure you understand all aspects of certain events. She relates her own personal experience and uses movie clips to help you understand the significance of history.
Before taking Professor VandSandt history was something I found intimidating, however she makes it very interesting. I took her for History 1 and 11, enjoyed the lectures very much. The lectures are clear and her way of teaching through a social view point make them entertaining. Make sure and study her study guide and you will do fine on the test.
Go to class, take notes, review notes, get an A. IM NOT AN A STUDENT. But her class was easy, and I would take her again in a heartbeat! PS- She's a sweet sweet southern bell! i love her!
This is a great online class. Took the 6 week course, condensed but still manageable on top of my very busy schedule. The tests are easy if you put in the work to do the outline, which does take time. In this condensed version there is a basically a test every week, the difficult part is writing a research paper. Always answered emails quickly.
Her power points are really helpful. She's really into women's History specifically. I got bored all the time in her class though. And you have to write a 5 paragraph essay every test.
This class was easy as long as you do the study guides. She gives the option of writing a paper to make an A, but no paper no A. The paper was long, but I had no problem getting it accepted. She was helpful enough I guess. I don't feel like I had to work really hard to make an A in her class. Oh, and I normally suck at History.
This was a pretty hands-off online class. Get at least an 80 on all your tests and you have an easy B. Allowing re-testing makes it difficult to finish with less than a B!!! Pay attention to deadlines, but let Prof. VanSandt know if something comes up and she is usually willing to work with you if you are honest and otherwise on track.
This class was a breeze, I actually learned a lot even though I spent most of class of my phone. As long as you take notes off her powerpoints and read the book you're golden.
All the tests are the same: 40 multiple choice questions, 10 of which are about a map. The rest is an essay question. She always tells you ahead of time exactly what she wants you to write in the essay question.
Professor VanSandt is very helpful during the semester. She answers the phone or the e-mail immediately. The tests are easy if you follow the course objective guideline she provides. A is possible with the research paper which needs more time and dedication. She always guides a student to do better. Like her positive attitude. A great professor!
Bless her heart, she's so sweet & nice, but her lectures are incredibly dull and time drags! That's even coming from someone who loves history! She's very clear though & grades are simple, 4 tests & a book report. She even tells you what will be on the test. Class was a breeze, just show up, print out the powerpoints to follow along, & you're set.
Show up, take notes & do the book review (pass the tests obviously) & you'll have your A! She provides the PowerPoint outlines online (just make sure to pay attention to the lectures too). Tests are multiple choice (10 questions using a map + 30 over lecture material) & a 5 paragraph essay (prompt given beforehand). Don't put off the book report!!!
Easiest online class ever. Just read the book and answer the study questions. The tests are killer easy and they are all 30 questions multiple choice. I took the eight week course and never once had to ask for help. You can only get an A by writing a paper, but if you don't mind the one letter difference you can pass just by passing all the tests.
Had her for 1301 and 1302. Book Review is difficult but if you turn in a rough draft(s) she will help you in anyway she can. Provides clear study guides for tests. Essay question can be a bit difficult and there's one on each test. She's also low key hilarious & loves women's history! If you're politically aware you'll enjoy her jokes!
Her tests questions are confusing from what she provides in her syllabus. Make sure you know every detail for the question to get it right on the test. Sometimes 2 of 4 answers are correct but cannot choose both. She responds quickly, but she's very vague and a bit confusing. The research paper is easy, just do the work.
Shes so sweet, but the class itself is kind of boring and drags on if you're not a history fan. Tests are hard everything comes from lecture so take extra notes while she's lecturing. Grades pretty tough on the book review, so I would write a mock up and bring it to her office hours first. Miss class and you miss something that will be on the test
She's a great teacher, but the only issue's I had were the test reviews. They were great (giving the page number for where the answer was) but the review's questions and the textbook's answers just seemed a little out of sync. Everything was very clear cut, but just be ready to read.
Took a class with her again just because I enjoyed the first one so much
I selected the tag, "participation matters", because our class had a lot of great questions and she let us explore how history continues to shape the current political discourse. She is extremely knowledgeable about her subject and you need to be in class to make sure you understand the underlying meaning of the events, not just dates and names.
This was an online class and it involved taking exams containing 4 chapters . Her study guides are very clear and the exams have the questions in her study guides. She emails back fast and she seems to care.
Prof VanSandt is a fantastic teacher. I bought the book an read the first weeks assignments and never opened it again. I realized pretty early that her tests are almost entirely lecture based. If you listen and take notes in class, you'll kill the tests (I got a 90 and above on every test). There is a book review you must do. Awesome class.
She is such a good professor. You are given the questions and page numbers as to where to find the answers. You get like 50-60 questions but only 30 are on the test. Most stuff Is pretty common sense, if you study your answer sheet you'll pass. One optional essay, super easy. She responds quickly to emails and is more than willing to help you
Easy class to pass and the instructor gives several ways to earn certain letter grades. I'm a working student and mom, I just wanted to pass. A student with more time can do other assignments to make an A or a B. Was one test shy of making a B and got an e-mail offering to let me retake that test. Didn't see the offer until after semester.
This professor is very nice and respectful. Her tests are confusing and NOT straight forward. I got an A for History 1 but struggled to pass in History 2 with her as a professor. She does offer a paper for you to write which DOES have a clear grading criteria. But tests are hard and this class is extremely lecture heavy.
Pretty straight forward and hands off. 5 tests and an optional essay. Each test is 30 questions, multiple choice, but the review sheets she gives you has 45-55 questions on it. Some of the test questions will not be on the review, so reading is sort-of-important. I personally didn't read a single chapter; i just worked on the reviews and passed.
Cares about her students
I loved this professor, i am taking her class again for history 2. She explains history very well and gives you a clear mindset about what will be on the test. I would highly recommend following the course objectives when studying because everything will be on the test from the objectives and some from the textbook. She is amazing!
Awesome teacher. Use the textbook! Practice the exam essays - she grades tough on those. Don't procrastinate on studying for the exams. Take good notes from her lectures and use her syllabus outline to study. You will work for an A. There's no memorizing of dates, but you must understand concepts! Very enjoyable, approachable, and funny!
If you take a class with this professor I encourage you to not miss a class period. she does lecture for the entire class but also if you needed to miss she posts her lectures on blackboard. You can follow along and write down points that she lectures heavy on because most likely it will be on the test. She answers all and any questions you ask.
She is very nice but needs work when it comes to explaining things. She drags on way too much!
her lectures didn't make sense on the way the tests were formatted. Honestly was just the worst experience I've ever had with a class. HER VOICE is so monotone OMG
I was originally worried about taking this class online, but it ended up being an easy A. Although there was an exam every week(6 week course) she posted study guides and all you had to do was answer them from the book. Tests were regurgitation of material from study guides. To get an A have to write a research paper. Great choice for online class
I took her online class and turned out to be good! Just do the study guides and you will pass the class.
I took her online class and she was very easy! She provides the study guides for each test on blackboard and all you have to do is get them from the textbook. She contacts back to her students in a timely manner. I'd recommend her to anybody.
I enjoyed this class, took it via distance learning . My piece of advice is to do the test reviews and you will have no issues with the class. If you want an A in the class, she requires you to have an 80% avg on the tests and a research paper. You can get a B by having an 80% on each test OR avg of 80% and a book report. I'd def recommend her!
Straightforward for an online history class. In order to get an A, you will need to write a 2000 word essay over a topic of your choice from history, and she either accepts it or doesn't accept it. Tests are modeled straight from the book, so read the book and answer her study guides and you'll have no problem doing well in the course. Do take her.
I've never been a huge History buff, but Professor VanSandt's humor caught my attention and made learning enjoyable. Study the learning objectives provided in the syllabus, print it up, and fill in the notes as she lectures. She lectures in order of the study guide. Never made less than an 80 on her exams. Definitely taking her for Hist 1302.
So much information in just one class. Her tests are ridiculous. Theyre crazy hard and make you second guess your answer. Doesnt teach from the book mostly and states her own opinion on things. Shes a good teacher but her tests make me feel so dumb. Wouldnt take again because of that
Amazing History professor. Classes are full of lectures that keeps you drawn in. Good at answering emails if you need help. I would definitely take this professor again.
I've never been great at history, but her online was a breether. I took her for Hist1301 & 1302, love her! She provides a study guide with the page numbers on it! 5 tests, 30 multiple choice. Do take her!!!
Zoë is an extremely knowledgeable professor. Her lectures are fascinating and kinda of rambly, but she knows her stuff. I'd recommend printing out her lectures (and re-formatting them because they're messy) and taking notes over what she says. Study those and fill out the objectives after each lecture and you'll be fine. Textbook wasn't used much.
Great teacher! You have 5 grades, 4 exams and 1 research paper. Start the research paper early and use the library resources. Each exam has an essay, but she will tell you exactly what she wants the day before the exam and review the test objectives as well. Attendance will help boost your grade! Would take her again if she was teaching this summer
Nothing but lectures and she goes through them quick. Super nice lady but I would not take her class again. Basically all of your grade comes from exams(also a book report)- which are extremely difficult to say the least. Attendance and reading the textbook is a must. Unless you want to take severe notes and struggle on tests- Iwouldtakesomeoneelse
Everything in this class is test based and she gives a study guide for each test way in advance. All of the answers to these are on quizlet so if you study those you'll pass the test purely from memorization. If you want an A you need to write an essay which is either accepted or not, just put some effort in. This class is a super easy A.
Took her 8-week online class. Reading the book and answering the study guide along the way is the easiest way to get an A on exams. 5 exams. Multiple choice. 30 qs. About half are from the study guide. To make an A, you had to get a test average of 80, and write a 1700-2000 word research paper relating to what we learned. Replies to emails promptly
Her lectures were sometimes tough to get through but if you take good notes, the class is simple. Her objectives on the syllabus are clear and she'll go over them before the test. The essay on the test is straight forward because she tells you exactly what it's about and how she wants it written. She's a nice lady and knows the material.
Super easy online class for students with jobs or busy lives. I only read parts of the textbook that answered the questions to the study guide. The tests were straightforward and completely covered by the study guides. The paper you have to write to get an A probably gets approved as long as you put some effort into it.
Professor VanSandt seemed to want to do the bear minimum. From never responding to emails or responding with one word answers to providing the very least amount of teaching and grading, leaving you to only be graded by tests. She makes it clear that she doesn't plan on teaching because she provides all test questions before the class even begins.
Her lectures are extremely boring, there are 4 tests and a research paper, each thing is worth 20% of your grade. Tests are multiple choice and an easy question (easy), but the multiple choice is very misleading and confusing. she is very vague in her lectures and they are hard to follow. I am usually a straight A student but this class was hard.
Prof VanSandt is amazing! A very lecture heavy class but she tries her best to make the material as interesting as possible. Grades for the class consist of 4 exams and 1 paper. The exams are multiple choice and extremely easy as long as you pay attention in class and the essay is an easy 100 as long as you submit a rough draft for feedback!
Professor VanSandt is a good professor. I took her online class over the summer and it was an easy A. There are 4 tests and an optional historical research paper if you want an A. Tests are straight from the review (answers on Quizlet). I recommend this class.
I took her in Fall 2017, and it was a great experience. The tests are a bit tricky but as long as you take notes in class and study according to the learning objectives you will do fine. Nearly everyone in class received a 100 on the research paper, and she is willing to meet for office hours to discuss drafts. Take her for history if you can!
I took her 8 week online class and it was the easiest class I have ever taken. Highly recommend! She is very understanding and replies to emails fairly quickly. Her test are literally the review. Very straight up. Take her class!
Professor VanSandt gives good lectures, she likes to keep things interesting. She shows movie clips and her slides are really good. Her class is pretty easy as long as you read the homework and take lots of notes. Grades rely mostly on four tests, each have a writing portion, which she gives the subject the class before so you can prepare.
Super sweet lady who obviously cares about her students, even those online. I never opened the textbook and found old Quizlets to study from and did well on all of the tests. I'm transferring the credit to UT so I only needed a C and she let my skip the last exam since I'd already made the grade. Highly recommend.
I took 1302 with her because she taught 1301 so well. She really makes history come alive through anecdotes, made history seem relevant to today's issues, and I learned so much more in depth American History. I can't recommend Profressor VanSandt enough; you'll be glad you enrolled in any class she teaches.
Took her online US history courses, thought they were pretty easy As. 5 multiple choice tests per semester (30 Qs each), as long as you memorize the study guides you'll ace the tests. Wrote one research essay (with my choice of topic) per semester, she encourages students to send her the rough drafts beforehand to check, ensuring a good grade.
Mrs. VanSandt is the sweetest! Very caring and understanding if you have a life situation pop up. She gives very detailed lectures that provide you more than enough information to study as well as does a class review the day before the test. She gives one project, but it's very straightforward and easy. Take her class!
I took this as an 8 week online course. 5 tests, and a book report for a b or a research paper for an A. DO the review over and over again until you KNOW the material. Easy class if you study hard. pro-tip, use ANKI for studying. way better than quizlet! also search for your own answers in the book, quizlet almost failed me on my first test.
Great class for those independent students who thrive working on their own time and schedule. Make sure you read and follow the study guides. Exams are easy if you read and study. Easy B for those underachivers or full-time workers.
I took her online 8 week class and it was great. There was lots of reading (or you can listen to it) and a research paper at the end. She always responds to emails in a timely fashion. Easy pass if you actually try.
Professor Zoe VanSandt is really nice and actually cares about helping her students. I would definitely recommend taking her class! I just wish she taught 1302! :/
Prof. VanSandt is a really sweet lady. Before we moved online, the classes were all lectures, and the reviews for the test aided you for the test well. There was an easy research project too. Moving online, all we did was read the textbook and then take the chapter quizzes which was really easy. I would recommend her class!
Honestly, the class was a big blurry long lecture.
I liked Professor VanSandt, sometimes she would say things that made me laugh, and I could tell she really cared about and knew a lot about history. Sometimes she would tell us little side-stories about historical figure's personalities, which could be interesting. Tests can be a bit tricky, pay attention to detail, but not necessarily dates.
I took this professor online. She's not a bad professor but not the best either. I received a C in the class because of the demanding paper requirements. You have to write a paper to get a C, a paper to get a B, and another paper to get a A. Regardless if you had a higher grade before that whatever paper you write is your final grade in the class.
I took professor VanSandt 8 week online course this past summer and it consisted of 5 multiple choice tests, which she provides study guides for. Make sure you complete the study guides before taking the tests. The study guides are very helpful, if you study/ are prepared you should do good. If you want an A then a 1,700 word research paper is due.
In order to keep the A you earn, you must write a 1750-2000 word essay with no specific question. you pick the topic and write about it. I got about 900 words in and the essay became a jumbled mess and hard to elaborate because it was so overwhelming. must use docs from the time period. (1800s). original sources from that time are hard to find.
There are no test in this class, just lots of papers. I finished a month early, but watch out for essays and video essays, she only wants certain parts of info and in details, but she is clear about she wants, just be sure to follow though. Gives clear feed back on what you need to improve as you turn your work. Would take again.
I took her 8 week online course and man, it was super easy and clearly outlined. Study the study guides she gives, they're exactly like the tests. You had to write a research paper to get an A, but it was really up to you what you wanted to write about, as long as it was before 1877 so that was nice. Takes a second to respond to emails, but nice!
She's not the best at answering emails back quickly. There are 5 exams and 1 discussion. It is very difficult to receive an A in her class, she doesn't connect with the class at all. You are basically teaching yourself. I have no idea why at the time she had great reviews. She'll meet with you over google meets but you'll still be lost. She rushes.
5 exams, 30 questions multiple choice each. All from the textbook. She provides study guide questions. Search for quizlet sets for her exams. You must write a 1750 to 2000 word essay if you want to keep your A. Otherwise, no essay is required (if you have a B or C, you cannot submit an essay).
